2/16/2019, No New Fic This Week

You know what the big problem with having something done way before the due date is? Having all that extra time before the next due date rolls around to waste time doing whatever whimsical bullshit tickles your fancy. This week, it was less procrastination and more a combination of writer's block, indecision, and my work situation. See, I'm getting ready to change jobs, and this

2/5/2019, The Bucket gets a Hole

Why do I always add the date to the title? To be honest, even I'm not sure anymore. I think it's a holdover from before Fimfiction's blogs had the dates. Either way, more stuff after the break!

    1/20/2019, Wild BLUNDY Appears!

A posted story? Another one finished and waiting to be released? Rewatching the entire series? What is this, 2012?

Nah, it's just a sign of the apocalypse. Beware, readers, for Blundy has officially returned from the dead. Raaaawr.

1/15/2018, Same Old Song and Dance

No big promises this time. No idiotic pledges to write at least 1k a day. I'd like to, but I'm just gonna lean back and put it on cruise control. I want to write again, but I'm going ease back into it, rather than sprinting right out of the gate like I used to try to do.

    7/21/17, Not Dead (Yet!)

I don't really like making excuses, so I'm just going to come out and say it: Between INJUSTICE 2, Until Dawn and working seven days a week, I haven't really done much (read: anything) in the way of writing since my ol' buddy ol' pall Timaeus challenged me to write a TaviScratch one-shot which I promptly started and then stopped working on

10/01/2014: This Collab's getting out of hoof... · 9:33pm Oct 1st, 2014

There comes a time in every fic when you sit back and think to yourself "Holy shit! This is coming along great! How long is— O.O I don't remember typing that many words!" Turns out, it's even crazier with collabs.

Remember that skype collab I said I was teaming up with Timaeus to write? Yeah, it's about 2/3 of the way done. Here's a pic of the counts:

Now, keep in mind that this is the rough, and it's formatted like this:

[06/09/2014 9:53:27 AM] Cody G (Blunderbolt): *practically falls out of seat as she moves and wraps forelegs around Twilight. Nuzzles head into shoulder.*
[06/09/2014 9:54:10 AM] Sam (Timaeus): *Twilight shrugs Rainbow off and waits for the bartender to return*
[06/09/2014 9:57:22 AM] Cody G (Blunderbolt): *frowns. Sways dangerously.* "Twiiiiiiiiiiiii—" *hiccups.*

With little to no actual narrative done, we're looking at at least 150k words. Maybe even upwards of 200k.

Dear God...

P.S. The two of us are also working on a Horror/Romance collab with Vertorm that's going to definitely be at least twice as long as this one.

P.P.S. ...Halp.

Reminds me of times I started talking on the phone with a girlfriend. Find out at the end that 3-4 hours had passed, just talking.

Dialog be wordy, yo.

Good god guys.

...

When will I see this now? :twilightsheepish:

Seeing as neither Timaeus nor Blundy is on, and I am actively assisting them with this collab AND am controlling the horror collab, I think I can safely answer this for them.

-ahem-

Soonish? Timaeus is writing the collab that he and Blundy are doing. I will be editing it, as well as the fact that I have assisted by playing a few characters here and there... and I can agree with Blundy that it is fairly long. This is good news though, as the collab is essentially the outline. All Timaeus has to do is just... put it into fiction. The dialogue and most actions are already set up.

He recently started writing the first chapter now that they have a good sizeable chunk of the story well outlined.

But *I* am excited for the horror fic!

Not only am I helping collab it, I'm playing a sort of 'game master' role. They each have one character in the story, and I control everything else, including the monsters and the like. It's been such a fun joy for me to pull out all the stops and turn up the fear for Blundy and Timaeus as they nervously navigate my twisting hallways where evil lies in wait at every turn...

I would give you a taste of what the fic will entail, but alas, it is not my place. Blundy himself will be writing that one once the outline is a good portion of the way in.

Well, for the one Blundy posted a gyazo pic of, I can say... soon-ish? Kinda vague, but I started writing the first chapter yesterday and got a good 3,300 words written. If I can get that kind of energy going for me tomorrow, then I might have the first chapter fully drafted and ready for revision by the end of the day on Friday. If that's the case, then maybe sometime next week? This is all depending on my university commitments though, of which there are many.

As for the more horror fic that we're trying to do with Vert... I dunno. We haven't gotten too far in it because of conflicting schedules and the difficulty of getting the three of us to be able to sit down at a computer at the same time for longer than 30 minutes.

You know, speaking of which, how exactly do you guys work with outlines and such? I've never really written anything with a set outline before, and the closest thing I've gotten to such was a 1 page file of elements I wanted to use in a story (this was for Journey to the Center of the Rainbow). Otherwise, my writing is basically I write what comes to mind and edit it from there.

I'm really curious how an outline can be 87k words.

2501458

I usually write using train of thought as well, but in collabing, it's a bit different. Basically, we're doing this:

[2:05:21 PM] Vertorm the Magnificent Stallion of Justice and Love: Pinkie is sitting on the seat behind Dash when Dash turns around "Hi!"
[2:07:11 PM] Cody G (Blunderbolt): "Gah!" *jumps back with a yelp, tripping over the bag and smashing head off floor again.*
[2:10:39 PM] Vertorm the Magnificent Stallion of Justice and Love: Pinkie gasps "oh my goodness! I'm sorry! Are you okay, Dash!?"
[2:12:30 PM] Cody G (Blunderbolt): *looks up, rubbing head.* "Pinkie? How—What are you doing here?"
[2:13:21 PM] Vertorm the Magnificent Stallion of Justice and Love: snorts and giggles a bit "Well that's a silly question. I'm traveling!"
[2:13:42 PM] Cody G (Blunderbolt): *blinks* "What?!"
[2:15:39 PM] Vertorm the Magnificent Stallion of Justice and Love: "Yeah! What about you? What are you doing here?" Gasps in shock "Wait, don't tell me, you got a job on this train just so you could go with me on my vacation!?"

And turning it into this:

Rainbow yawned as she rubbed her eyes and set her book down. Smacking her lips, she surveyed the compartment, but noticed Twilight still hadn't come back since she'd fallen asleep. A frown pulled at her lips as she sighed and turned around to find a more comfortable spot to sleep on besides the floor.

"Hi!" A cheery tone burst out from the seat. The flash of light from the window revealed the intruder to be her friend Pinkie Pie, but that didn't stop Dash from nearly taking flight as she jumped into the air and shrieked.

In her (totally momentary) panic, she leaped backwards. This was a big mistake, as her luggage was there and she soon found herself toppling over it like a topheavy ragdoll. A jolt of pain rocked her skull as it smashed to the floor with a sickening thud.

"Oh my gosh, Dashie! I didn't mean to scare you!"

As Dash gripped her head in her hooves like a bruised melon, she groaned and looked back up to the seats. "Pinkie? How—what are you doing here?"

Almost seemingly to spite her pain, Dash thought, Pinkie snorted and laughed. "Well, that's a silly question!" she said matter-of-factly. "I'm travelling!"

The outline provides direction. It's just a Get idea, scope idea, ????, PROFIT way of writing a story. It's not hard, but it can be a bit bothersome.

And yeah, an 87,000 word outline that's only 2/3 of the way done. If it finishes at 100-150k, we'll be looking at a fic that, once written, will probably be over 200-300k.

Ouch. Our fingers!:facehoof:

2501934 Ah, so you flesh out most of the dialog and what is happening around it, and then expand on it later on.

I do like the idea of doing that, maybe I'll try that on the longer story I'm working on, perhaps I'll get more done quicker. :twilightsheepish:
