Adrift Off Fiddler's Green: a new story is coming! · 3:11am Jul 13th, 2014

We have a lead on a house. If things work out, then we may own a new place to live by the end of the month.

This has cheered me enough that one day, I woke up, and... I wasn't completely sad. I had some energy. I had just a little joy in me. The bright day wasn't shining with despair anymore. I almost felt happy.

And what powers my ability to write is feeling joy. Even just a little.

And that translates to:

Adrift Off
Fiddler's Green

By Chatoyance

It's coming. The first chapter is even now going through approval. It's a sort-of follow up to HUMAN In Equestria, and sort of it's own novel. It stars, with permission, a reporter character courtesy of Midnight Shadow. Why? Because while it is trivial to just invent a character, using his newfoal 'Frontpage' from 'Midnight's Tail' makes me feel, just a little bit, like the old days, when I was part of a community of writers all sharing the same mythos in joy and friendship. That sort of feeling is precious.

A note on HUMAN In Equestria. For months and months, it has sat there, unfinished, a blot on my perfect record of always finishing every story. So, I set out to finish it. That was my initial goal. But... stories have lives of their own. Stories are living things, and what happened was that in doing more chapters of HUMAN, I realized an astonishing thing.

I had already finished the book perfectly ( just as some readers did, in fact, point out at the time ) and I had failed to notice it. Or believe it. I think I didn't want that particular ride to end, really. But... it is complete. The 'new chapters' proved that to me. The book had a perfect, happy ending, plus an epilogue that tied everything up. It was complete, I was just unwilling to admit it. Silly, stubborn me!

So, now I had two chapters and no book to put them in.

That is remedied as of now... or rather, when the new novel is greenlighted and online. Soon, I expect.

Please look for it. I would love to tell you a story, if I may.

A story of the deepest secrets of Equestria... like what it actually is, what the princesses (and Discord) truly are, and... the little issue of what happens in my Equestria after ponies... and other creatures... die.

Because an event, with a little Snow Bunny, from HUMAN In Equestria, needs to be followed up.

Because stories, have a life, of their own.

I guess... I'm back!

And another story to add to the ever growing list of read later making it 111 now for me. TCB stories are somewhat interesting depending on what direction the writers take them though at times they give me idea I don't know if are good or bad. Picture a newfoal near the beginning of it all learning from Pinkie Pie and succeeding at it. :trollestia:

You getting a house. Yeah!

Crossing my fingers for the house, I hope everything works as planned!

Dear Chatoyance, I am so very glad to be reading this from you.

It is wonderful that you have come back to writing and to us. I know that I, for one, have sorely missed you and your work in your absence, and I cannot wait to be reading another of your stories.

I wish you the best of luck on securing that house, and hope that soon, you will once again have the great gift of normalcy.

Kind regards,

The Articulator.

Really glad to hear you really are back. It does my heart ill to know someone I respect so much is going through a rough time, but does my heart good to know things are looking up and they have the emotional wherewithal to write again.

If you want a specific illustration for this story, just let me know in a PM, because I'll probably do one anyway, just 'cuz that's what I do.

Excellent news all around! I hope the best for all of you – the most that you'll all be happy together wherever you land. I'm honestly very happy for you that things are getting better, and that you feel good enough to actually write, now.

I haven't had much time to read lately – work a lot, eat, sleep a little, rinse & repeat – but I pulled in HIE to start reading it tonight... I'll begin reading the new story as soon as I finish that.

Wonderful! I am very glad to hear that things are going well for you. :)
And that you're writing a new story; I look forward to reading it… eventually… once I work my way through all the other stuff you've written… Well, there are certainly worse problems than having a dauntingly large quantity of good stories to read.

Oh, and I seem to be a bit late with this (judging by the timestamps, I actually made the discovery at about the same time you made this post), but it turns out that I do know someone in Portland; I just didn't know that they were there. They've never heard of you but said that these links might be useful. Sorry I couldn't have these for you sooner, or something better than a few links; hopefully your current lead will work out and you won't need them, though.

Good to hear things are starting to look better for you. Fingers crossed. Hope everything works out for you and your family!

On a more selfish note (sorry!), looking forward to read more of your stories. No matter if people agree with you or not, everything you write always makes me think (even more than I usually do).

Welcome back!

Welcome back, my friend. You have been greatly missed. I've got the story open in a new tab, and I'll be reading it first thing in the morning.

Welcome... home. :pinkiehappy:

Yay! Great to see you writing again, it's been too long. Welcome back.

Glad to hear it Chatoyance.

So glad to have you back :D when I saw that the story was about a pony named Front Page I immediately though they were the EverfreeNW mascot, but evidently not! I shall try my best not to be confused by this ^_^

Hooray! Place to live! :rainbowkiss:

I only now discovered you have a sixth Trixie's Bit Novel out and in progress! How did I not know? I am very excited by this - I love your writing, I love this series, and... that is just the best surprise right now. I follow you, I cannot figure out how I missed the start of yet another of your incomparable works.

Well, time for me to get reading.

Thank you for your kindness, Applejinx.

And, for your utterly magnificent books.

Hello Chat,

I'm so glad things are looking up, both on the home front as well as well as your own personal emotional situation, the best evidence of which is that you're writing again! :pinkiehappy:

Your friend,
Daf

i'm glad things are looking up for you!:yay:

I'm glad to hear you have a lead on a house.

Oh, Chatoyance :applejackunsure: read quick! It's got to be bittersweet, I fear.

It's the FINAL Trixieverse book. And the final chapter… is tomorrow. :ajsleepy:

I can say that, because it's not arbitrary: it's been toward thematic purpose throughout, and I'm sure you'll 'get' what's there even if it may shock you at times. Actually I'm pretty sure it will melt your brain pretty good, but underlying it all are very important themes and it's not arbitrary in the least.

So, bittersweet: yes there's a sixth whole book that I've tried to make the most powerful and meaningful one yet, and there is no seventh book because it's not about just typing, but saying things and building to meaningful resolutions… and I think you will be one of the ponies who understands the true ending the best.

After that, I don't know. My IRL situation is just as much in the air as yours, and on 2014's earth you can be a bowl of potato salad rich beyond dreams of avarice, but many ways of contributing to the world are too expensive to continue. All I can say is, this is not the end of Jinxie. :ajsleepy:

Bug me or have folks bug me at Bronycon if you have specific things you want from me. I'll be teaching/coaching ponies in Quills and Sofas, most of the time. :ajbemused:

Congrats on finding a candidate, friend!

Hooray!! I'm glad things are looking up for you.:pinkiehappy: ≡^ᴥ^≡

Happy to hear you're landing on your hooves, Chat. I know how much you'll miss your old place, but life is change. Or to be topical, life is like your (most recent) book; It's always ending, yet spawning sequels even as it does so.

While I hear amazing things about the Trixieverse, I've yet to read it myself. A deficiency I'll make an effort to correct. Congrats on completing such a well-regarded series. I've been unable quit my own particular self created fan 'verse. But a powerful ending is infinitely better than a long and slow deterioration as you run out of original ideas.

The first chapter or two of the first book will probably feel "off" to you. Don't let it scare you away, the real meat starts a bit further in.

2281175
Probably why I haven't engaged with it despite seeing it so highly recommended in multiple places. I'm a big believer in 'nope'ing out of a story if it makes a bad first impression. On my next foray I'll try to stick with it a bit longer.

Hooray! You're writing stuff again! :raritystarry: And as many others said, hopefully that house works out for you! :pinkiehappy:

Tsk. It's NOT a rule you got to like it. You can come and throw rotten apples if you want! :ajsmug:

You know, I had a crowd of very talented writers trying to rewrite 'Best Ride Ever', with my permission and encouragement. All they were able to do was make it sound like themselves. I stand by my story, right down to 'but the gaaaay, Dashie! The gay!'

Because it's okay to have a lil' fun with it too. :rainbowkiss:

Applejinx is one of my personal Seven Best Writers On Fimfiction (not counting myself, modesty FORBID!). I cannot recommend his work highly enough. Applejinx taught me, prudish little thing that I am, an amazing lesson or fifty. One big lesson was that anything - even erotic material, even blatantly sexual material - can be of the highest art.

Applejinx uses sexuality to explore character to a depth that is truly astonishing. It is something I would never have thought to do. He uses sexual intimacy to explore the nature and contours of individual identity, and he does this with a mastery that is nothing less than genius.

Now, I am a total prude, as I mentioned. But Applejinx... Applejinx turns material that to any other person would be tawdry bone-jumping into heart-wrenching, mind-expanding, and boundary-stretching art that makes a total mockery of any narrowness I have ever possessed.

I am in absolute awe of Applejinx, make no mistake.

Applejinx writes about messy, sweaty, sloppy sex... but not a bit of it is pornography.

And that this is even possible, is genius, true genius, a priceless gem shining in this dung-heap called Fimfiction.

I can totally relate. For me, it was Romance Reports instead of Applejinx. I used to look down on authors who wrote clopfics. Then I wrote one. It's not as easy as I once thought it was. I'll make it a point to read the series in the coming weeks.

Guess who's back, back again. Chaty's back. Tell a friend.

Ah, I am so, so glad to hear things are getting better! It's silly of me to worry about someone I've never met and never will, knowing full and well that my nervous energy isn't helping anyone at all but I do fret an awful lot anyway.

This is probably the best news I've heard all week!

Cheers, and here's to hoping everything continues moving up!

*Hugs warmly* It brightens my day to know that you are feeling better.
I'm also glad that you decided to call HiE complete where it is :twilightsheepish:. I didn't know that you were relating writing it to a feeling. I haven't written much in my life, but mostly the points that come to mind are all the same process: at the beginning it is small curiosity, as I begin writing there is a tickle-y feeling as I type away the first sections of word chaos, then before I realize it, the characters are alive and yearning to explore. My few stories have all had different genres, but the powerful ones are the ones I wrote to share. I think this process explores some very deep magic, because I didn't write my first stories knowing with whom I wanted to share them, only that it was a gift for someone who I knew would applicate it and because of that, a gift to myself.

Oh! Awesome! I'm so happy you're feeling well enough to start a new project! And one that continues HiE at that! Yay! :yay:

This is sitting in my reading list for a long time after you recommended it somewhere else. Now I absolutely need to start reading it!

It is good to have you back, Chatoyance. And it is good to hear things may be working out for you and yours. :pinkiehappy:

It is very happy to hear from you, Empress! Yay!

This makes me happy.
