Amazing Spider-Man II Thoughts · 1:46am May 4th, 2014

Well, I just saw Amazing Spider-Man II in theaters. As you can tell, I'm a fanboy for Spidey. I'm the guy who defends Spider-Man 3 (it wasn't THAT bad. It was cheesy and had HUGE flaws, but was it one of the worst superhero movies of all time? Heck no. Batman and Robin was WAY worse). At any rate, I'm going to give you my honest opinion without giving away spoilers.

Honestly. Amazing Spider-Man II is now my favorite Spidey movie of all time. It's even in my top three superhero movies of all time, right there with Avengers and Dark Knight Rises (I still haven't seen Captain America II yet. I'm watching it tomorrow). The plot was great. Andrew Garfield continues to WOW me as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy continues to be perfect. Jamie Foxx surprised me. He was SOLID as Electro. The action was intense and there was plenty of it. The story was great, going deeper into Richard Parker and involving Harry Osborn.

I won't say much else. We're obviously leading up to a Sinister Six movie. However, what was interesting was the scene in the end credits. I might be wrong, but I smell an X-Men / Spider-Man crossover movie in the future.

 Let me know whatcha think, folks!

hey, since you said that you watched it and all, you have any clue what was egging on electro when he was in times square? still have no clue.

I would love to see Wolverine get to abuse Spider-man in a friendly "Bub" sort of way. They are an awesome comedic duo, I love how they play off each other. I'm glad the movie was good, can't wait to see it myself.

Now, don't lash out okay? Remember that we're friends... (At least kinda.)

I... haven't seen the first one yet. :twilightblush: I have MEANT to, but every time i think about it, I just... I don't know! I want to see it! I just haven't yet! ; ;

I will say this as it's not a spoiler. I felt Harry's transformation into the Green Goblin was a little rushed. That's not a spoiler, it's been confirmed for a while now that Harry is the Goblin in this one.

I like his look, a lot better than the Power Rangers Goblin we saw in Raimi's trilogy. WISH he had something like a flight helmet(Green obviously) with yellow goggles or something, just to give the illusion of the mask from the comics. I mean that was designed to be a battle suit to work in tandem with a FLIGHT glider. You would think a helmet would have been in the designs for it, but whatever they can do that for future movies.

Electro, perfect. Rhino? Pointless, but entertaining.

2075195 Well Rhino was there just to set up the Sinister Six who will not only be in the next flick, but are going to get their own spinoff movie after #3 comes out. Also will be a Venom spinoff but we will see if he has an appearance in he next one or not.

2075346 I meant pointless to THIS movie. All we needed to see was him at the beginning and a post credits scene of him getting the armor.

god, i thought i was the only one who loved TASM2. I gotta ask what the hell is wrong with the critics. it was an excellent movie. I did have a few complaints about it. there was one scene at the beginnig that i felt was a bit far-fetched on the humor. otherwise, spidy's antics were spot on.the romance took a little too long in a few spots (nothing to complain about, really) and they didn't spend enough time showing peter in mourning for gwen. while I liked the portrayal of harry, i thought his personality was better suited for norman. overall it's the second best spidy movie, with spider-man 2 as the absolute best. i'm totally looking forward to what the future has in store.
2075136 that would be great. i've always felt logan and peter shared a brotherly bond with each other. did you know wolverine was going to have a part in the first spider-man movie (raimi's version) and that hugh jackman's still pushing for a spider-man/wolverine movie?

Sorry to say but the Spiderman/Xmen crossover isn't happening. The reason it was included was because Marc Webb had an existing contract with Fox and they werent going to allow him to direct any more spiderman films. But they made a deal with Sony that he could continue to make the movies if Sony allowed them to advertise their movie for free in a post credit sene.

Read about it Here

2075124 He thought Spiderman was stealing his spotlight.

2075388
i know, but i mean the voices. it was the biggest annoyance that i had with the movie. not sure why, but they are.

I saw the movie today as well, and I liked it a lot. I saw for my bday and I was not disappointed.

2075352 No I didn't on both accounts. Hugh Jackman pushing for the movie is actually surprising to me. I think he would be perfect for the role in such a crossover. IDK who i would want to be Spidey, there's too many. Although the most recent guy seems pretty good.

2075354 don't you just hate that? i was personally insulted by that fact and the inclusion of that clip in the movie. it's funny. alot,ALOT, of the actors want major crossovers and the studios are so damn greedy and stupid that they refuse to get onboard. kevin feige did say there would be crossovers, but it'll take time. with the infinity wars looming, time is not something we have. they need to pull their collective heads out of their asses and start making things happen. we all want it. let's go. :twilightangry2:

btw, to everypony reading this, I heard a rumor that stan lee is going to make an appearance in an episode of my little pony friendship is magic. did anyone else heard this?

:rainbowhuh:Did any one notice that Max Dillain is gay for spider-man? And also he attacks with dub steps:trixieshiftright:? Has anyone played Amazing Spider-Man 2 game yet:moustache:?

2075608
That Stan Lee rumour is from back in 2012 so it might not be happening (Then again Weird Al rumours appeared around the same time and we all know how that went)

Ok I liked this 'Amazing Spiderman' alto more than the first. Granted I have a slight biased for the Maguire films since I grew up with them. But I got to give props where props are due , this was a great film. I dare say better than the Maguire Spiderman sequel (this takes a lot for me to say since that film was on of my favs). Andrew Garfield nailed the sarcasm, and charm of Peter Parker, but he lacks the since of 'tradgety' the Maguire films had...I just feel like they move on to fast after a character dies:fluttercry:

All the charecters were great...I missed Jameson though...weird.:derpyderp1:

Electro was amazing, powerwise. Like a magneto, nightcrawker, storm hybrid! Also love the displays of Spidystength and spidersence, I felt like the first movie nerfed those a bit:twilightangry2:

All in all a great movie:scootangel:

I really disliked the movie, and the clip after the movie just seemed like a commercial for another x-men movie. :rainbowhuh:

2075354 Seriously?! AH. I got my hopes up for nothing! Stupid companies and their greed! :facehoof:

2075677 Oh. I LOVE the spider sense moments, especially the one in Times Square. Though. I may take back what I said about this being my favorite Spidey movie. Spider-Man 2 and Amazing Spider-Man 2 are neck and neck right now. As for Gwen, they DID say that he mourned for five months before moving on.

2075752 I'm finding out it was just a commercial. Sigh. I had my hopes up for a Wolverine/Spider-Man crossover. :facehoof:

2075609 "I hate this song." I LOLED at that bit. :rainbowlaugh:

2075352 Harry Osborn surprised me. He was quite good. Honestly, I know Norman Osborn is still alive. When he comes, I'm sure he'll be more like the Ultimate Universe version.

2075349 I agree. I thought Rhino was going to be in the opening act (he was, technically, but without the armor). They could have left him as a hint, like they did with Vulture's wings and Doc Ock's tentacles.

2075146 You must see it. As a Spidey fan, I humbly demand that you see it. :rainbowwild:

2075195 Yeah. I liked Harry, but I just thought the transformation should have been a bit more epic, kind of like Osborn's in the first Spider-Man movie.

2075352 Critics tend to be a bit strict and picky. I admit the movie has its flaws. Harry's transformation was a bit lacking and Rhino was mostly pointless. However, Andrew Garfield was AMAZING as Peter Parker AND Spider-Man. Plus, Jamie Foxx stole the show as Electro. :yay: And I agree about Gwen. I thought that should have been the main focus of the next movie, with Peter mourning and trying to cope. But Gwen's death scene was PERFECT. It was a nice callback to the comics, just with a graphic twist.

2075752 I'd love to hear your thoughts. Why didn't you like the movie?

2075889 I haven't seen the movie yet, but i'm planning to see it pretty soon. And speaking about a possible Spiderman/X-men crossover, I highly doubt that will even happen anytime soon, or with any of the other Marvel movies:ajsleepy:. If you notice one particular element in the Marvel hero movies, it's that there are no references made at all about events that have already occurred. For instance, nobody in the first Amazing Spiderman movie mentions anything about the Chitauri invasion of New York, despite the fact that it was released after the Avengers. Nor do any of the other movies reference anything about the events that occurred in the X-men movies, or anything about mutants at all. If I would have known better, I'd say that the reason why some events are not referenced in some of the movies, despite the fact that they're part of the same comic book universe, is due to the difference between distribution companies.
Even though Marvel is owned by Disney now, the distribution rights for the X-men movies goes to 20th Century Fox, while Spiderman's belongs to Sony. Unless Disney decides to purchase the distribution rights from both studios, there might not ever be an interconnection with the movies at all.

I f:yay:king loved this movie. I don't think anyone could get me to hate a Spider-Man movie in the first place(Yes, I am a Spidey fanboy and proud of it:ajsmug:). Andrew Garfield makes a perfect Peter Parker, and I swear to Celestia, Emma Stone was born to be Gwen Stacy. This movie really made me feel pity for the villains, and speaking of the villains, Jamie Foxx was a surprisingly good Electro, and Harry Osborn. Just...Wow. Harry Osborn was a factor that this movie handled so well. Also, this movie really tried to pull at your heartstrings. Seriously, this was quite the emotional movie.:pinkiesad2: The movie did disappoint me in a few areas, but I can safely say that it's quickly become one of my all time favorites.:pinkiehappy:
Now I'm just waiting on the Sinister Six and Venom movies.
(On a side note, remember that beginning chase scene? That was HILARIOUS!:rainbowlaugh:)

2075994 Yeah. I'm reading more on that now. It's a shame. I was really hoping for a Wolverine/Spider-Man movie. :facehoof: Ah, well. I still have the Sinister Six and Venom movie to look forward, too. :yay:

2076113 Yeah. I'm not saying it's perfect. It has it's flaws, but for what it's worth, this just might be my favorite Spidey movie of all time (probably even better than Spider-Man 2).

I haven't seen it yet, but I really liked the first one and thought it was way better than the Toby Macguire movies.

My biggest problem was that while what's his name made a great Spider-man he never felt right as Peter Parker to me.

2076283 Oh, Andrew Garfield? I love him as both. Though I admit, he's not quite as nerdy and awkward as Tobey was. He strikes me as a cool Peter Parker with a hint of geeky. :ajsmug:

Haven't seen it yet, color me jelly.:fluttershysad:

2076289 I encourage you to watch it when you can.

2075889 Yeah I mean he may have been rushed, but I really DO love the direction they're going with Harry.

Also, thinking on my comments about his costume, I think it could very much be just a starting out costume. I mean Peter in the first movie had more of a rougher looking costume before we got to the more classic looking one we see in this movie. We'll probably see Harry in a more traditional looking Goblin costume by the next film. I just hope we can avoid another Power Rangers mask thing. Maybe when he goes Goblin his skin turns green as a side effect of the injection?

Also I gotta say this as well. I freaking LOVED Dane Dehaan's Goblin laugh. It's got that kind of mischievous "you know he's up to something" sound which fits as goblins in myth are extremely mischievous and always up to no good, and has that underlying sinister quality.

And, may just be me, but I could swear he was channeling a bit of Willem Dafoe's Goblin toward the end there. Just the facial expressions

2075889 don't get me wrong, i loved Dane DeHaan's acting. his portrayal was amazing and he totally sold me on being the green goblin (i like that he studied the role of gobbie from the comics). i'm just too used to seeing James Franco's version of harry osborn. maybe i'm an uptight overzealous purist fan or something.

but like i said, i loved the movie regardless.

2075677
The actor that portrayed Jameson în the Macguire trilogy said he wanted to reprise his role, he might be in the next. As far as I'm concerned, he IS Mr. Jameson

2075392
You mean the voices in his head? I thought that was a pretty cool use of sound design, like all of Electro's scenes.

I loved the movie, but one scene in the movie made me,my sister, and my dad just start laughing.

"You fight me!You fight now .... EH"?! :rainbowlaugh:

2078781
yes, the voices in his head. i'm not sure if they are either the original voices in his head, cause of his "friends", or the eels in the accident.

2079586
I'd say it was just his own personal demons.

Honestly, Spidey has always been my second favorite superhero. Now with that said, I went and saw the Amazing Spider-Man and I was disappointed from the issues I witnessed (Several issues were of production rather then plot). Now I am willing to try out the second, however I am preparing myself just in case things aren't what they appear to be.

Oh and on a side note, you're right. Batman & Robin was the WORST superhero film I have seen. SM3 was alright. (Only because it had Venom. :rainbowkiss:)

After I saw the first Amazing Spider-man I was amazed at how perfect Andrew Garfield was for that role. To me he nailed it and did a much better job than Toby McGuire.
