Hi! How are my lovely followers doing today? Yes, yes. I know. Red, get off your ass, and sit down and write something, will ya?! It's off and on, guys. I write what I can while I can, and take what little bit of writing I get done and smear it over 10 or 15 stories, there's not much to go around. I'll get to all your fav's eventually though, don't worry.
See the new avatar? I went on a road trip to Washington DC this week with my dad and 2 little sisters. For some business, but we also went sight seeing. That place was swarming with tourists, even for a week day! There was a big ass crowd in front of the White House, I thought some dignitary was visiting or something. I asked a guard and he was like 'nothing special's going on today. That's normal. Welcome to DC.' Fuckin A. We found a place in downtown where food-selling trucks congregate to sell lunch to all the office workers. I got a damn good gryo sandwich one day, and some damn good gormeh sabzi (a persian stew) the next day. Anyway, on the long and arduous trip home, one stop was made at one of those traveling/tourist centers/rest area type places along the highway. They had some fast food dumps in there and after we were in and out, I got in the car, facing the place's windows, and I was looking right at this neon sign 'Red Burritos.' I was just like fuck. I like that 'Red.' I ran in and snapped a pic.
Anyway, just thought I'd check in.
While we're here, let's do some good old fashioned Red's Recommended Reads, shall we? I thought I'd focus on some less popular stories today.
A Persimmon Spring - A recent addition to Chuck Finley's massive collection of side projects that occupy his time whilst he's not writing his totally obviously all important main story, Banishment Decree. Damn it Chuck, hurry up at write more of my favoritest story! Anyway, I decided to read this one because it wasn't a clearly obvious smut clopfic (like many of his are these days), even though I'm usually turned off by Alternate Universe tags. To be honest though, I started reading it expecting something completely different. It surprised me, and even though it's definitely AU, it made me rethink Chrysalis as a person, and actually tugged on some of my heartstrings.
Mare Doloris - This story needs way more attention that it has. I happened across it on the main page one day, thinking boy that looks familiar. Clicked it only to find I had it on my Read Later already! Too good of a coincidence if you ask me. More like serendipity. So naturally I wanted to give the first chapter a shot, based on that luck alone. And weird as the premise is, I found myself enraptured by it. It's hard to explain it, but it's such a unique story, with a unique plot, and unique narration. It's weird and thought-provoking. And sci-fi-y. I never figured I'd read a story about Nightmare moon, much less finding myself believing the prospects it sets forward for her character. And also, I'm not entirely sure it needs an AU tag. You probably won't notice any discrepencies. At least not yet. Go check it out. I think you'll enjoy it.
Darkness to Dust - I think this was actually featured in one of those Seattle's angels or whatever bullshit that is. Frankly I'm surpised this has so few upvotes. It's certainly not your run of the mill ponyfic, but it's short and enjoyable. Thought provoking too. Dark? Yes, it's basically a journal entry from Death himself. Well, Celestia has to die sometime, after all.
We'll Dismember It For You, Wholesale! - Another one from good old Chuck. Eh, it's got its fair share of upvotes already, but it's one of those that I think can't get enough. This story reminded me of why I liked Chuck's writing so much. He creates this chemistry between Gilda and Trixie (no, it's not a ship) that just... works, so damn well. And it's just funny as hell. Is it dark? Yes, but in a funny, tasteful way. It's dark in that it explores the organized crime underworld a little bit, including mostly the parts about 'housecleaning,' or whatever they call cleaning up dead bodies after a hit. That's where Gilda and Trixie come in. Dark or not, this fic had me in stitches, and it's a short, gritty story that I think you'll love.
wow.... i just noticed that easter is on 420....... friends on probation though, most we can do is a hookah lounge.

Thanks for the shout-out my friend! I'm actually a great deal prouder of A Persimmon Spring than most of my other stories, so I'm really glad to see it getting some love.
Also, today I've got another story coming out. By the time you read this, it should be out. It's pure Gilda/Trixie goodness. And you're gonna love it.
