First, going to give you guys a new story. Whipped it up over the weekend. I like it, so you should probably read it. Pinkie Pie would throw a party for you if you read it.

Second, you may have noticed I lost my Moderator status. Knighty and I just had a bit of a disagreement about how this site should be run. He was being an old stick in the mud while I was trying to bring something truly beautiful to this site.
A room full of monkeys.
Okay, perhaps it wasn't a room full of real monkeys. It's an AI server that replicates the effect. It would have been a wonderful new way for Fimfiction to automatically rate stories. It works in a very fascinating way. A story would have been submitted to the server, and it would have run an algorithm with the AI monkeys to see how long it would take them to create the same story. It works of the principle of "Put enough monkeys in a room with a typewriter and you'll get Shakespeare." The longer the simulated monkeys theoretically took to replicate your story, the higher your MQR, or Monkey Quality Rating. The higher the rating, the higher the supposed story.
After all, Shakespeare was a pretty awesome writer.
But Knighty just couldn't see the vision. So I got the big old horseshoe in the butt and he gave my place to Pen Stroke. I mean, sure, he has the most watchers, but he doesn't have the vision to embrace the MQR system.

As Obs' replacement on the Fimfiction staff, I can attest to the fact that there was a lot of tension between him and knighty. We are not switching to the MQR system, though, and never will.

This is the greatest April Fools joke I've seen in a very long time. Kudos to the both of you for making this. I was genuinely convinced for the entire blog (until the link), but then I realized that I never followed Obselescence and that it wasn't a site blog post. Great job you guys!

Hate to break this to you, but they were right to deny it.
This is a fanfiction site about ponies. We can't outsource our quality control to monkeys.
What we need is a stimulation of ponies doing that, preferably ones working on excessive amounts of caffeine. Sure they have hooves, but they'll have a better idea of what content should end up in a pony story. I'm thinking something like this, to give a visual of what the AI should be imitating.
Just think on it for a day or two, I'm sure 'ol Knighty will come around.

Obs, Pen Stroke, Knighty, RBDash47, and Xaquseg do not actually exist. They are all my sock-puppets. Me? I am just an intern hired by Michael Bay and M. A. Larson to create and foster a community of writers so they can poach ideas for their upcoming Rainbow Brite/Transformer/ Equestria Girls crossover next summer.
I totally fell for this. Additionally, this monkey system would never work because the length of time it would take monkeys to write something specific could just be artificially inflated by lengthening your story with any text at all. So your MQR would just be determined by the length of your story.
I fell for the new mod bit btw, not the monkeys thing. I assumed it was a lighthearted joke at the situation to avoid providing a real explanation. I didn't even realize this could be april fools until I read a comment to that effect.

AHA! I was wondering why in my favorites the author for a breakfast of time loops had suddenly switched to Pen Stroke. That crap was confusing.

While I can't speak on you losing your mod status, I agree with knighty, that auto-rate system would have been the worst mistake he would have made in regards to this website. The READERS determine if a fic is good or not. NOT some room full of monkeys.

That's very dissapoitning, Obs. That MQR system is a stroke of genius. Revolutionary! It would have dramtically improved the quality of the site more than I could imagine. I don't normally make complaints about the way the site is run, but I think knighty dropped the ball on this one. Heck, it's SUCH a good idea, why stop at merely rating fanfiction? It could be expanded to the whole internet and beyond, and replace thing like thumbs up or thumbs down or five-star rating systems as a measuring factor for the quality of, well, any written medium.
I think I will have to look into implementing it myself at home, and then see if I can't get it to work. Maybe if I can present you a working model, knighty might be more inclined to implement it.

Obs, you're not telling the full story. knighty gave your system a try, but it didn't work. The monkeys could never replicate most of the stories. It turned out the monkeys' grammar and sense of character were too good.
Then the monkeys got loose, and started posting stories to fimfiction, and half of them were featured. The whole thing was just a fiasco.
