I need a Pre-reader/editor for Princess Celestia: the Changeling Queen · 6:04pm Jan 19th, 2014
Kolwynia, author of Celestia in Excelsis, one of the best Celestia backstory stories I've ever had the pleasure to read, has to work hard in his last semester in order to graduate. Because his time on the internet will be reduced greatly, I need a new Pre-Reader for Princess Celestia: The changeling queen and I"m doing this by a modified version of my normal method. Normally, instead of going to the proofreaders/pre-readers group and asking someone to pre-read my story that probably has no idea of it, I usually just ask a user who has noticed the most errors or has given the most insight/speculation into any of my stories and then ask him or her to be my pre-reader.
Unfortunately... that isn't quite fair, neither was it that accurate. While it was alright when I had less than a 100 subscribers to a story, I have 1000 subscribers to this story. Some of them don't always participate because the errors were perhaps pointed out already and if I try to read the comments section... their are 15 or more pages for me to go through.
Hence, I'm putting out a Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen Pre-reader application process for all readers/subscribers and just regular strangers who come across this:
1. Fill out the form and answer the following questions, then PM me it.
Name:
Timezone:
Approximate times available on a regular week:
Previous Experience Proofreading/editing and what works have you done it for?:Tell me a little about yourself, your favorite genre of stories, your general preferences for the fandom, favorite pony, basically anything, but the more the better.
Answer two of the following three questions:
Do you have any advice/opinion on how this story could have been done better or could be improved? Do be honest if there is something you ABSOLUTELY DISLIKE, it'll help me fix it.Why do you like this story and what is in your opinion, the best thing about it?
Why would you want to pre-read this story apart from the benefits I've listed?
2. I will then send you one passage of the next chapter to be pre-read... it's in rather rough condition so that will be fun and will be a good test of the hopeful pre-reader's abilities.
3. On January 23, I will announce the chosen pre-reader and contact him/her to immediately get started on the new chapter... which should be completed by then as it is 80% completed now. Submissions should be made no later than January 22.
Wait, vren55 you mentioned 'benefits' in one of your questions?
Yes, there are benefits to pre-reading for me that I offer to all of my pre-readers.
1. After three or five chapters of pre-reading I generally give all my pre-readers the opportunity to ask for one of their stories to be featured/mentioned/promoted in my update. Of course, the story has to be one that I actually feels should be promoted, but its still an opportunity I'm willing to offer.
2. Pre-readers, while they have to keep their lips sealed, get to generally see the chapter before I release it, which basically means they see it before everybody else. That means they probably get access to all my story plans, notes, even the plans that didn't go through.
3. All advice my pre-readers give me is taken into account, which does kind of mean they have some influence in the story's direction. I do have a final word, but as a pre-reader, a person is far closer, in a far better position to advise me.
Anyhow, go ahead and apply if you are interested!
Sincerely,
vren55
Comma
"there" "go"
"it's" Could have used "its" if you dropped the "in".
Sounds awkward, suggested change:
"will be a good judge of your abilities."
Bah, what that you care that I am editing this blog post. Why you ask? Cause I am a bit of an ass and I found it kinda funny. Good luck on getting a new editor, I will continue posting errors I catch and little questions on each chapter update.
Though I would like to edit for you, I need to not get ahead of myself and work through the back log of already published chapters an author has dumped on me.
1735166 :D I was thinking of approaching you actually precisely because of your keen eye for grammar... as embarrassing as it is, my grammar especially in the morning, has issues.
I would volunteer, but I'm kinda busy, so you deserve someone who can devote themselves wholly to you fic. Good luck t you and your new pre-reader(s)! /)

Yeah, mornings is never a good time for anything, except sleep, I do like it for that. Sometimes I will point out inconsistencies and logical faults as well, or, as in the case with what I am editing now, the mistake between an EKG and a MRI. Talk about science rage.
If you really need one then go to Overly Extensive Editors and apply for one. Those guys are awesome at what they do.
I'm game to proofread. Need more experience and all that jazz. Though I won't be available to fill out the form just yet due to b-day celebrations. (Party hat time! Woo!)
1735166 Sweet Celestia, how I know how that feels.
1737452
WHY?! Why the back log? Can't you do this on your own? You need not punish me!
1738311 I miss the days when authors waited for the editor to finish editing before posting the chapter or story... But then again, I'm a lazy ass bastard. So it's understandable with me.
1739088
I can do it if the chapter is not too long, like less than 8k words. Like last night had an author add me on Skype and ask if I could edit something. Did it right after I got the link. Mind you, it was for a story I very much enjoy.
1739612 Wow, I move at a snail's pace then. I usually spend an hour per page of editing.
1741503
You might catch more than me then. I would need to look over some of the stories you have edited to know for sure though.
1742887 I'm a crappy editor so I probably missed a bunch of stuff still. I'm just also a slowpoke.

Haha. I am always improving. Errors kinda just pop out at me when I am reading, they mess with the pace of the story and it makes my brain rage a little.
1744345 Well, hope you keep on improving, and I know what you're talking about. Once saw a comma out of place and I went on a rant about commas, funny thing is, it was my own story.
1746783
I don't write stories cause I know I will just think it is crap when I am finished.
1747892 Don't be so harsh on yourself, I'm sure whatever you've wrote isn't complete crap. Probably a million times better than anything I wrote.
1748311
Oh let's not get in to the "who is worse" contest.
We all know I would win.
1752687 Oh, it is so on.
1753147
What do you mean? I thought it was off, like a blender not in use.
1753615 I have no idea anymore. I do like your profile pic though.

Yup, NMM is a cutie. Though with Christmas being past, it seems like it is time to pick something else. Need to dig through more Luna and Nightmare pics...

Is the position still open?
I'm crap fro writing, but I tend to see mistakes when I read. (Lord of the Flies is a spelling nightmare! And we're reading it in English Class!)
