It's been one year since I first started thinking about writing a pony fic. Well, in around 5 hours it will be.
April 27, 2011. Worst series of tornadoes to ever hit this area. When I say "this area" I don't just mean "my state". I mean my immediate area. You can go a search google if you want details, suffice to say, sitting in the bathroom waiting to hear the roof get torn off is not a fun experience. I have never wished so much for a cartoon character to be real as much as I was then. That's where the core images for Storm came from. The idea that Rainbow Dash would fight against such a thing until she was incapable of flight; the idea that Twilight would push herself past exhaustion for her friends. All of the rest of the fic centered around those two images. The following day, we had power (amazingly) but no water, gas, or phones. We decided to flee the area. Here's a youtube video that actually drives past my house. We went to my parent's place in Tennessee for the next four days. I wrote Storm that night.
I had no clue how to write at all, and it took a few weeks to find someone willing to give me feedback. Cupcakes took a look and was willing to point out and explain "showing vs. telling" and such to me. I got it ready and submitted to EqD. It got bounced with "you need SOMETHING between the confrontation and teh storm is over scene." So I wrote the Flash section. It ended up being my favorite section of the whole work.
Evidently, I captured enough of the character dynamic of the mane 6 that the general readership overlooked the reuse of "so-random" and several other literary blunders. The fic went six star just as soon as Seth made six star a thing. It's since been bombed, I think. Getting 45 1 stars overnight is a bomb, right? I don't much care about EqD ratings anymore; they've been rendered useless by mewling man-children who 1 star things based on tags. Twilight's List has a 3.5 at the moment. It looks like a combination of >shipping, >prereader, and OMFG-you-draw-pony-r34 hate. For lulz, go one star it; having the lowest rated fic on eqd would actually be kinda funny.
Anyway, I just wanted to commemorate by entry into fic writing with a little blog post.

I mean. If you read it and don't like it, sure rate it. But to systematically vote bomb an entire genre because it makes you uncomfortable to think about? All I see when I try to picture that type of person is someone who never grew up.
I don't care if a person hates shipping. But when they start to do shit like organize against it, clearly they have issues. The issues are most likely not immaturity. I mean, I hate grimdark. So I do not read it. I don't 1 star it, I don't down vote it, I skip it and move on. Like someone with the maturity of a 14 year old should be able to.

How so? The town is being rebuilt, Dash no longer blames herself, and Pinkie doesn't have to force herself to be happy on the outside only.

Storm was one of my favourite shorts stories.
Didn't realise you had both written them until I added you to my watch about a week ago.

I've had a lot of people ask about a sequel to Storm, both here and dA. I am at a complete loss what I would write about. The closest thing I can think of, would be a story similar to Mercedes Lackey's Storm Rising-etc series. Where the storm was caused by the echo/rewind of an ancient event (in this case Luna becoming NMM). But I have no ideas for the adventure that would need to happen. I write [normal] for the most part. Even comments on List had a lot of "this is the most [normal] romance fic ever." I'm not sure I can DO a proper adventure. I have little interest in building a world outside of the Equestria we see in the show. Trying to do something like "Over The Edge of the Map" is completely alien to me.
Then again, three months ago, I said "I can't write shipping." So maybe I just need to try.

Doesn't have to be an adventure story, in fact I think that would be a bad thing.
Tell us about the rebuilding of ponyville, about one of pinkie's parties making everypony happy again, about Twilight corresponding with her mentor about possible (natural) causes.
The story storm, told us about how they went above and beyond their own limits to help others, now tell us how they continue doing that, but in other ways (as there's no real danger anymore)
in short: not everything has to happen because of great evil, and not every story has to revolve around action/adventure/romance and whatnot: sometimes it's just great to read about the lives of people (or in this case ponies) after an ordeal.
Wow a year is a long time. And I'm glad your still writing. I know how you feel about the whole roof getting ripped off your house thing. When I was 5 years old, an F-5 was on a collision course with my house. By some miracle of higher power it turned before it got close enough to damage any homes. So I know how it feels.

Last month, tornadoes (it may have been only one) tore up Nick Davis road AGAIN. There are no more tree here that are taller than 4 feet. But entire houses just vanished. I kinda want to move, but no where else around here is any safer.
Wow, you're from Alabama? Well, hope everything's okay. Those tornadoes last year were rough.

Wow that must have been horrific. Sitting through a cyclone. The most we've had near me is some heavy downpour.
Where I lived didn't get flooded during the North Queensland floods but everywhere else did.

88915 yeah I kind of know the feeling. but for a different reason. ever sense my family has moved to our current house. there's has been a LOT of gangs and stuff. so like I said, kind of. but my mom wants my little siblings to go to the same school for at least one years set(1st-5th) unlike what me and my older sister had to go through. TRIVIA: did you know going to 8 different schools by the time you hit middle school makes you a social outcast?

If you read it and have actual intelligent criticism then write it in the comments and rate appropriately, don't just 1-Star it because you see two mares together as offensive... Besides they are just trying not to admit that TwiDash

Yeah I had no idea nor do I care... I may not be one to read clop but everyone has their own preferences. The story itself is great and hopefully you will make a sequal to it. Oh and ignore the people who are jealous they can't get that many thumbs-up in that short of a time frame

Man, things have changed so much in the year since then. We were on Synchtube every day, and we were all waiting for the At the Gala song to air after Daniel Ingram mentioned that a big song was coming down the pipes, and... heh. April 2011...
I'm proud that I was able to help with Storm, and you more than re-paid me with all the work you did on Nocturne. I still wish I'd helped more with Twilight's List, too.

I really wish Synchtube hadn't died over the summer. Everyone singing and throwing random videos around and mono finding all the good r34 and being able to talk with that hoard of people was fun.
I still remember when we worried about whether season two was even happening. Also, predictions that the community would wither w/o new episodes.

From? Not really. I do live up near East Limestone road. Didn't know there were many ponyfans around here. Haven't been able to find many in north Alabama in over a year of trying. I guess Twilight's List scored on more than one account.

There's a facebook group, but they are Birmingham-Montgomery area, IIRC. I've also found a Cookeville TN group. I've been hoping for a Nashville or Huntsville/Athens area group to spring up. With my job and family getting time for meetups is scare and 2 hour trips are pretty much out of the question.
