    Writing Prompt!

As some of you may know, I used to help moderate an MLP writing prompt blog called Thirty Minute Pony Stories. Though that blog has now shut its doors, Esle-Ynopemos has carried on the grand Thirty Minute Pony Stories tradition here at Fimfiction.net. (And has been doing a bang-up job, too, may I add.) As Esle is but one pony fanficcer, versus an

Soooooo, How 'Bout That SunLight, Huh?

Truly, I am a prophet among shippers. I was mocked for my adoration of SunLight after the first EG movie, but everyone's singing a different tune now, aren't they? AREN'T THEY?

Also, this is the biannual reminder/reassurance that I am not dead. In case that was something you were wondering about.

    Happy almost 2015, y'all. :)

Love Songs in the Key of FiM: The Complete Album

Since the album’s finally complete, I thought I’d do a master post for it. One of the most interesting parts of the experience has been that, in reviewing the songs, I think my singing improved more than my guitar-playing did. I hadn’t expected that at all—if anything, I thought the reverse would be true.

Love Songs in the Key of FiM: Complete!

Some of you who've known me a while may remember my ongoing project to write and record a love song for every inter-Mane Six ship. Today, after almost two and a half years, I've finally finished. Here are the last three songs that complete the album. (As always, the entire album can be found on

Contest Time! · 3:48pm Mar 9th, 2012

So you remember when I asked if anyone had any story requests and then promptly wrote none of those stories? Yeah, me too. (In my defense ... I began writing for a good handful of those requests, but nothing panned out. I did try, though.) Well, here's something like that ... except, this time, I absolutely WILL write the story request.

If you win the contest.

What is the contest, asks no one? Well, I'm currently writing a story that has a number of original character ponies (all in fairly minor roles, though), and I've been finding it a struggle to name all of the pesky little critters. So if you can come up with a name for one of these characters that I decide to use in the story, I will write you a one-shot with the characters, set-up, etc., of your choosing.

The character who needs a name is the curator of Canterlot's Museum of Contemporary Arts and Culture. She is a refined-looking unicorn who is middle-aged. All of the names I've been able to think up for her are utterly awful.

Ready ... set ... go!

[Contest is now closed!]

Uhh... I got nothin'

Hmm... Karrator? Miss Chert? Kierrator? Aurafact? Strata? Lily Lithic? Cera (as in Sarah, ceramics).

Edify Virtuoso or Edi for short

A name combining the concept of teaching (Edify) with skill in the arts (Virtuoso).

Hauty polish (I have NO idea what I'm doing :pinkiehappy:)

I decided to go with an S-name theme, and stick as close to the canonical show style of name as possible. So we've got:

Solid Marble, Splash Paint, and Steady Glance

First two imply she is or was an artist herself, or at least specializes. The third one is if her talent is actually in the judging and curating of art.

Ah, i'm terrible at names.

I dunno - Creme de la Creme? Upper Crust? Cut Above?

As I said, terrible :derpytongue2:

She is a curator you say? How 'bout Dusty Relics?

Abstract Expressionism. Figuration Libre

Miss Art-trite
or
Madame Curie
or maybe
Articus

Lady Calliope Hue, curator of the Canterlot Museum of Contemporary Arts and Culture. A long time student of poetry and painting both, she authored the first modern Equestrian graphic novel at the age of 17, and went on to win the prestigious Silver Unicorn for Literary Innovation at the age of 29 for her work 'The Red Feather: Folk Tales Of The Griffonic Empire'. At 43, she was appointed Curator, after a decade of work within the Museum.

Calliope is unexpectedly plain in appearance; a light brown with a pale tan mane and tail, her eyes are brown as well. She is not overly interested in her own appearance, and ponies are frequently surprised to find that she holds such an important place. As she put in once, in an interview in an issue of Canterlot Quarterly "I feel that it is vastly more important that the Arts be represented in style than myself!".

Calliope lives with her lover, Meadowdance Ribbon, in the old part of Canterlot, near the Statue Garden. Meadowdance was once a star of the Equestrian Ballet, but was forced to retire due to an irreparable hock injury; she has since turned to teaching and runs the prestigious Ribbon School of Ballet.

With reference to the arts, Calliope is known for this quote: "The Arts are new wings for pegasai, bright magic for every unicorn, and the greatest harvest for every earthpony." The Canterlot Times has called Calliope Hue the true 'Grandmare of the Arts', and the greatest living expert on modern Equestrian arts culture.

What name for such a unicorn could compete with Post Modern? None, I say!:moustache:

Oh names, how fun they are to make. Glittering Relic perhaps?

Err... Self Portrait?

Names are not my strong suit.

Well, with inspiration from the show (Diamond Tiara, Fancy Pants) how about Polished Ore? or perhaps Polished Pearl for something more feminine.

Hmm... tis is a tricky one...

If you want a Single name (like Cheerilee, Rarity, etc), then maybe go with an art style (with a twist in the name).

- Impression
- Fauvism
- Surreal

Note: you cane always add "Madame" or "Lady" to the beginning of the name to make it "refined", like "Madame/Lady Surreal"

If you want a double name (like Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, etc), then things get interesting, because none I think of really flow very well. I like 26574 and his name Post Modern better than most of mine (thought of it before I saw his post), but some I thought of...

- Art Keeper
- Antiquity Sentinel (if "sentinel" sounds to male, then go with Preserver)

Alternately, you can say that she USED to be an artist, and that this is her new job, and her special talent is art (kinda like how Rarity's special talent is finding gems, even though she works as a dressmaker). This works with any of the single names I gave, plus opens up some double names I like more.

- Cut Granite/Marble (if you don't like cut, you can say its short for Cutherine or something in the style that Pinkie is short of Pinkimena)
- Oil Pigment
- Chromatic Tint (if Chromatic sounds too close to "Rainbow", then Chroma is good too)
- Iridescent Gloss

I had one or two more, but I don't remember them anymore. If you don't like any of these? Take a "name" (like Color Paint...) or something, and look in a thesaurus for each word, (... becomes Iridescent Gloss!)

Hope this helped!

26574

Post Modern = my favorite so far. GO WITH THAT ONE.

(If I end up supporting the winning name, do I get a story, too?! :pinkiehappy:)

... Hm... art museum curator...?

GAH! The ones that keep coming to my head are either too long or they don't flow well at all.

I'm pretty sure Post Modern's probably the best I've seen.

Avant Garde?

26728

Never mind. THAT'S my favorite. Go with that one.

Oh my gosh. SO MANY COMMENTS.

I figured I'd get maybe three or four. This is kind of overwhelming and amazing, and THANK YOU. All of these are great, great, great, and so much better than any of the names I was coming up with. I'll leave the contest open until I'm ready to post chapter 4 of "Seeking Beauty" and then choose a name.

26565
If this was an examination, you would SO get extra credit. Not only did you come up with a backstory for the character, but you came up with a backstory for the character's PARTNER. Whoa. *is impressed* Unfortunately, the curator is only slated to appear in one scene, to talk about museum business, so I'm not sure I can work any of that backstory in. I totally love it, though.

Contest is CLOSED! This was hard as all get-out, as I loved practically every suggestion, but THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, so ... Chatoyance, I owe you a story. Feel free to let me know what you'd like here or via PM. Whichever you prefer is just fine by me.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! Y'all are the BEST. :pinkiehappy:

Curses! With this defeat, the cause of CelestiaPie is set back another thousand years!

Er, I mean... congratulations, Chatoyance! We all look forward to whatever you might request from DB. (P.S. Request CelestiaPie.)
