An inspirational journey, with a small miss understood and judged filly named star light. Her quest to unveiling a star which may have the answers she wants.
Star Light has always been looked down upon, not only by class mates but mares and gentle-coats. Her oddly colored coat and strange green eyes send the town folk into dishonorable behavior towards her. She earned her cutie mark quite young and adventure to the outer atmosphere has always exhilarated her. Follow her on a journey, to find what it means to be her. To find her true self. And to unveil questions that never have come across Equestria. "Too look at the world being small is such a silly thing for out side it holds new answers and questions."
"How did I know? Star Light, we need to make sure this doesn't happen again. You know you can't back chat a student, especially in front of the teacher" Nova sighed. Nova was Star Light's mother, she had a short golden brown mane and her tail was long and wavy. Her eyes were piercing emerald green and was beautiful, her coat was a light cream colour and was always free from dirt and other what not."I'm sorry mother, It wasn't my fault. They are all mean to me." Star Light bowed her head in shame. Nova had always tried to keep Star Light safe, like any parent would but Star Light being a victim of bullying didn't make it easier. Star Light was a strange looking filly, she had powerful magic of which is used for her science and astronomy projects, she was incredibly smart and always tried her best. This was one reason she was bullied, the next was her looks. She had a dark brown mane plated on one side the same with her tail. She also had an odd colored coat it consisted of light and dark purples. Her eyes where a pungent green. "Mother! It's not my fault." She started whimpering. Nova placed her hoof around her and pulled her in for a warming hug "I know it's not your fault my dear. I was looking for some where new to live. Ponyville have some great places and a brilliant school I hear, apparently bulling doesn't occur there as they're very strict with it. Would you like to go there instead?" Nova's reassuring words hit Star Light hard which encouraged a smile to spread. Star light looked up with watery eyes and shouted in reply "Oh yes please mother." She wrapped her hooves around her mother's chest and squeezed hard. It's been awhile since Nova saw her little girl smile like that, so she approved of Star Lights wish and moved into Ponyville.
Two days later......
Nova and Star Light got off the train from Canterlot into Ponyville. Stares shifted towards them. The intimidating eyes that followed Star Light were overwhelming. "Mother. People are staring at me." She whispered. Nova looked around and replied in a sweet tone "It's because we are new here, they don't recognize us so that will happen." Nova turned her head towards Star Light and nudged her with her nose and smiled. Star light lifted up her head and smiled at all the other ponies, giving them a hearty welcome, for this will be their new home and a new beginning.
As they arrived in Ponyville, the stares didn't stop, they carried on. It was as if it was a barricade hit all the town folk to protect them from the unknown. Whispers started to follow next. They carried on like the waves in the sea. One whisper struck Nova hard "What is that monstrosity?" Star Light didn't hear it...luckily but Nova's heart sunk to her gut, holding back tears she carried on walking with a smile on her face whilst on their way to their new home.
When they reached home after 20 minutes of continuous stares and bickering they were finally home. They unpacked their bags and started making an empty shell of a house into a warm happy home for the two. "Mother, can you help me with my school bag?" Star Light shouted from her room. Nova trotted up the stairs and entered the Star Lights room. Her room was full of stars and science work she had done. "Star Light we've only just moved in and your room is a mess." Star Light giggled "I'm sorry but you know how much work I have." Nova sighed, and helped Star Light with her school bag.
"Star Light it's getting late and you have your first day of school tomorrow. Can you go to bed please?" Nova said softly. "Yes mother." Star Light replied. Nova came back up the stairs and tucked Star Light into bed, and sung a lullaby
"The stars shine brightly, but they must rest. For tomorrow night needs the light to see. Go to sleep my darling foal. For tomorrow is a day to reach your goal. The moon is there to protect us all, but one day it will need sleep. so hush my darling, don't wake now, for tomorrow will be one to see. So go to sleep."
Starlight was finally asleep, and Nova did the same for tomorrow is a new day and one to hope all goes well.
"O my gosh, o my gosh." Star light shrieked with joy. She got on her school bag and ran to the door, as she opened it, Nova shouted "It's 7am school doesn't start for another hour." Star Light shut the door slowly "Oh yeah, i'm sorry i'm just so excited." Star Light started jumping around in excitement. It was cold out side so her mother decided a nice warm bowl of oat meal would warm Star Light up. "Now Star Light, I want you to behave, I don't want to have to keep moving. This is a good school and cheerliee your teacher is very interested in having you has her student, don't mess up." Nova instructed. Star Light nodded kissed her mother on the cheek and ran off to school as fast as she could. Nova looked outside and sighed "I hope it all goes well."
At the school, the fillies started to line up. for class, as they entered to sit down, Star Light was called in. "Okay everypony we have a new student in our class her name is Star Light, I want everypony to give her a warm hearty welcome." Cheerilee said. "Hello Everypony. My name is Star Light, my hobbies are star gazing and doing science projects. I earned my cutie mark when I was 4 years old, which was very young, but I became so interested in my hobby it became my talent. I hope you will all be nice to me and I make lot's of friends." Star Light smiled and cocked her head to the left, when she opened them everypony was staring at her. They seemed to be scared. As Star Light trotted to her seat everypony flinched and moved away. "Thank you Star Light, I hope you enjoy your time here." Cheerilee replied.
Star Light was doing well in school that day, until at break time she stood out ready to play with the other fillies, and no one was there. In fact they were hiding behind the school building. Star Light heard whispering and followed the voices close enough to hear the actual words. "She's a freak, she shouldn't even be here." they said. Star Light stopped in her tracks her eye's widened and started to water. "Am I really a monster....I can't be I'm just a filly like everypony else." She questioned. She slumped to the ground with eyes welling up with emotion. The school bell rang and everyone cautiously walked around the school building to find Star Light wasn't there. With her not near them they felt safe and ran back into class to find Star Light sitting at her desk sulking. No one dared to even talk nor walk towards her and let their day continue like any other.
The next lesson was science, Star Light's favorite subject but not even subatomic particles or star clusters could bring a smile to her face. Although being sad and feeling unworthy that didn't stop her from working hard, she does this in her spare time and got 100% in her test. "Star Light I was very Impressed with your work, you are a very dedicated student, especially to this subject, keep it up." Cheerilee said with a big grin on her face. "Oh it's no big deal, I do this everyday I pretty much know it all." Star Light replied, not even looking up to look at her teacher.
When the day had ended, Star Light walked back home, she knew it doesn't matter what school she went to it was never the school's fault, it was herself. She hated everything about herself, she let herself think positively knowing that a negative reaction would just take place like every other school and town she'd move to. "I can't let this get me down, I have to find away to make a change. I don't want to disappoint my mum or Cheerilee." She whispered to herself. Whilst walking home all she saw were ponies gawking at her, like she was some wild beast. She never had one friend, and every time someone looked at her it was never for good reasons. Her mum was her only friend, one who would be there for her. But she wanted a real friend, not a mother. Just some body to accept her for who she was and what she looked like.
"I used to always think it was because of my knowledge or for how young i got my cutie mark...But now I realise it's just me, it's me who they stare at...it's the outside they are seeing and judging." She quietly mumbled. Her eye's started to water again before letting out a huge wail she buried her head in her hooves. It was starting to get dark, she looked up and saw one twinkling star shining through the clouds. She smiled a little and ran home "If that star can shine brightly through the looming clouds so can I." She shouted.
"Oh Diamond Tiara your hair is amazing." Said Silver Spoon. She was a grey filly not much older than Star Light, she had a grey coat and a silver mane done in a plat to one side. she also had a Silver spoon on her flank. She is well known for her upper class behaviour as well as her bullying. "Thank you Silver Spoon, don't I look gorgeous not like that filly...uh you know who." She whispered nudging Silver spoon with her flank, whilst staring at Star Light. Diamond Tiara was a similar age to Silver spoon, she had a light pink coat and a purple and white mane. She Always wore a diamond encrusted tiara which symbolised her name and also matched her cutie mark. She was the daughter of filthy rich, a businessman, who also had the reputation of being popular and a big bully. Silver Spoon looked confused "Who Star Light?" She questioned. "Shhh....don't say her name out loud apparently if you say it out loud you will be cursed with....the ugly." Diamond Tiara replied shockingly. Silver Spoons eye's widened "O my gosh, why didn't you tell me sooner? Am I ugly please tell me I can't be ugly I'm supposed to be beautiful." She worried. Diamond Tiara pulled her behind a bush "No don't worry you're not ugly you are still beautiful..now shh she's there just beyond this bush." The two fillies peeked from the bush and stared at her. "Ugh, it makes me want to throw up." Silver Spoon said doing a gagging impression which sent the two fillies into hysterics. Star Light heard the laughing and ran up towards it "Hey girl's what are you laughing about?" She said with a beaming smile. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon stopped and stayed still in shock. "Uhhh nothing that concerns you!" Diamond Tiara huffed. The two fillies who were crying in laughter ran off crying in terror. Star Light looked down at the ground with a single tear running down her cheek "Really?....Again?" she sighed and turned back to do what she was doing.
Star Light was sitting at a park bench writing up some work for her science project. "Ok so I need bicarbonate of soda and vinegar....Well I can get the Bicarbonate of soda at sugar cube corner, i don't know where i would find vinegar though. I guess I'll have to ask." she said to her self. She walked up to one of the city folk "Excuse me sir" Star Light politely questioned. As the stallion turned and looked down at her, he yelped and ran off. This happened for the whole, day there was no luck in getting her vinegar she needs. "Hmph I give up, why can't I just talk to one pony and get a straight forward answer, with out having to run after them or them run away from me?" Star Light shouted. She stormed back home and slammed the door, Nova heard the door slam "Darling can you not slam the door like that!" she commanded. "I'm sorry mother, I'm just annoyed; everypony I talk to well try to talk to runs away and I need to get vinegar for my project for school." she sighed. Nova looked up and her eyes widened. "Why didn't you tell me you needed vinegar we have some in the cupboard." She smiled gently. Star Light stared at her for a while before replying. "Are you telling me, I went out side to be humiliated when there is the ingredients i actually need where right her all along." Her temper raised. She bit her lip and relaxed "Thank celestia for that, I would've gone crazy." Star Light smiled. She gathered up the things and went to her room to complete the project.
"Hmm Star Light has been up in her room nearly all day, I hope she's alright." Nova thought as she looked up at the ceiling. She trotted upstairs quietly making sure Star Light didn't hear her. She opened her daughters room door gently and quietly not making a peep and looked into her room. Star was standing there covered in paper mache, whilst the room was covered in red;brown and black paint. "Done" Star Light shrieked with joy. "Done what?" Nova interrupted. Star Light nearly jumped out of her coat from shock "Mother don't do that, you gave me the heebee jeebees by doing that." She said in a serious tone. Nova couldn't help but giggle under her breath. "Oh I'm sorry dear." She replied still giggling at the past event. "What have you done?" She questioned. "This is my science project for school. We need to show a chemical reaction which is easily understood and well presented so I used the bicarbonate soda and vinegar in a volcano to explain the endothermic reaction that takes place." She said with a smile spread across her face. Nova looked puzzled her head slighly cocked to the right and then answered "That sounds great....What does endothermic even mean?" She questioned with the same puzzled look. Star Light Sighed and began her lecture. "An endothermic reaction means heat going into the reaction, thermic is thermal which means heat and endo is enter. This is not to be confused by exothermic which is when heat is produced and given off and leaves the reaction process." She smiled wittily knowing she just outsmarted her own mother.
Nova smiled and walked up towards Star Light and wrapped her up in her hooves. "I'm so proud I have a smart and beautiful little star for a daughter. I love you." She crinkled up her noes and pushed it onto Star Lights cheek and blew a raspberry. They both giggled at the sound and hugged. Star Light then got her hooves up against her mothers chest and pushed away a little, Star Lights green eyes lifted up and stared into her mothers beautiful emerald green eyes "I'm so proud to have a mother like you, I am your only star and I will shine brightly for you and no one else. I love you too mother." They smiled at each other and cuddled up and fell fast asleep.
"I'm so happy to have at least one pony to love me for who I am. I will blossom like a spring flower and shine brightly like Princess Luna's night stars just to make my mother smile. Thank you for making me happy" Star Light dreamed.
The following morning, was the day that Star Light would finally present her project to the whole class, most ponies would be nervous especially when they are bullied, but Star Light had the confidence to do pretty much anything she set her mind to. "Mother I'm off to school. I love you" Star Light shouted as she left "Make sure you tell me all about it dear, I love you too." Nova replied. Star Light turned her head and smiled and winked at her mother. Today was a big day, maybe just maybe this project might finally get ponies in her class to stick around and listen instead of running off to hide.
Walking to school was the most difficult task, with mares and stallions staring in disbelief at the seemingly "Ugly" thing that had walked past. No one dared say her name for a rumor had spread, that if you should say the name you will be cursed. It was a silly myth and hypocrisy that didn't add up to any logical evidence to justify itself. "They're still staring at me...come on Star Light just ignore them." She thought. Star Light looked at the ground trying to block out the glances and voices that surrounded her until she got to school. When she arrived into school all the fillies were whispering it was difficult to make out what they were saying, but the moment they saw Star Light they stopped and pressed themselves up against the wall. Silver Spoon screamed "EW GET IT AWAY FROM ME!" Everyone's eyes were wide, they followed Star Light closely; making sure she didn't edge nearer. Her eye's drooped in sadness and let her head down. She remained in this position for the majority of the day, until the subject science was issued.
"Now class today, each of you will explain and present your presentation, remember I'm grading you and this will count towards tests later on in the year." Cheerilee explained. Each member presented their presentations, Cheerilee marked and scored each piece and jotted it down onto a sheet of paper. After everyone had sat back down there was one left on the list "Star Light. You're up." Cheerliee said softly. As Star Light got out of her seat, the rest of the fillies flinched and nudged away. Star Light didn't allow stares and flinching get her down, she was going to present a piece that would make everyone excited and like her.
"Today I am going to show a heat reaction, by using bicarbonate soda and vinegar, to make it easier to explain and show I will be using a volcano model I made to demonstrate." Star Light instructed. As Star light added the Bicarbonate soda into the base of the volcano she continued her speech. "This heat reaction is known as an endothermic reaction." She carefully then tipped some vinegar into the bicarbonate soda. froth started to form and spew from the volcano. Even with this great presentation the class members were still quaking with fear. "As the chemicals of bicarbonate soda and the vinegar mix it causes energy, this energy is then released making the particles collide, causing the reaction. This then causes heat to go into the reaction making it an endothermic reaction. This means Heat going in." She continued trying her hardest to impress the class. "That is the end of my presentation thank you." Star Light finished, she then slowly moved back to her seat and slumped low looking at the front. Cheerilee was very engaged with the presentation and gave her a round of applause. "That was truly remarkable, thank you for your contribution Star Light." Cheerilee replied. Class was over for the day, Cheerilee was stood by the door and was handing out the class' marks. When it was Star Light's turn to receive her mark Cheerilee set her aside.
"You did extremely well, i'm very impressed. How are you finding school?" She questioned. Star Lights ears perked up when she received the mark it had an A+ she was so excited she forgot Cheerilee's question. "Star Light?" Cheerilee asked politely. "Oh yeah uhmm....I'm doing well, I really like it here." Star Light shrugged. Cheerilee smiled and sent her on her way. As Star Light got out the school, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon where standing there with about 4 other fillies. "Think you're so smart huh?" Silver Spoon demanded. Star Light stepped back "No I...I...I'm just good at what I do. It's my talent." Star Light stuttered as she slowly sank lower and lower from the bullies. Diamond Tiara walked up to her along with the others and kicked dirt in her face "That'll teach ya! You shouldn't even be here. Outsider." Diamond Tiara snorted.
The rest of the fillies left, while Star Light was slouched over trying to clean her face from dirt. "I guess they don't like me now for my intelligence either." Star Light sighed.
