One year before the story, Derpy lets slip to Pinkie that her birthday was coming up. Pinkie, of course, plans a surprise party for her. She sends a letter from the library to Sugar Cube Corner with a note on it saying 'deliver this last'. when Derpy goes to deliver this letter, she finds the mane six waiting for her. While Derpy is overjoed to have made friends, the mane six are devastated that they could not get any pony else to come.
Feeling sorry for the pegasus, they each decide to make her birthday extra special.Rarity makes a dress for her. Rainbow Dash does, what else, a sonic rainboom at the end of the party. Pinkie makes an extra special muffin cake. Applejack invites her and the rest to a sleepover at the farm sometime. Fluttershy offers to give her a pet. And Twilight, not knowing what to give the pegasus, decides to do something that will help Derpy for the rest of her life. She offers to stimulate her brain (with extreamly small doses of magic).
After a week of thinking about it, Derpy agrees. After six months of sessions she is able to control her eyes 99% of the time and has a greater mental capacity. Her clumsiness is almost cured as well, although she still suffers from the occasional accident. Thus her conversion from Derpy hooves to Ditzy hooves is complete (although i may accidentaly reffer to her as derpy from time to time. Just tell me when you see this and i will fix. For the sake of romance i shale make Rainbow Dash's nickname for Ditzy 'Bright Eyes'.
Ditzy Hooves was making her rounds delivering Ponyville's mail, just like every other day. What was not like every other day was the huge smile on her face. Sure she was usually a happy pony, but today was different. She had received a letter from Canterlot, more specifically she had gotten a letter from Dinky in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. She had been accepted into the school a little over a year ago, and she haden't seen her little muffin since.
Lost in her thoughts, Ditzy didn't see the cloud until she collided with it. "UMPH". Stunned from the impact, she shakes her head until her eyes realign. Once her vision clears she takes her first good look at the cloud she hit, and nearly feints when the cloud pillar cracks all the way through and tips over, crashing through the side of Rainbow Dash's cloud house. "O no..." She looks through the hole into the house, seeing the couch smashed to pieces. "Hello? Rainbow Dash, are you here?" 'Please don't be hurt.' She jumps when she hears Rainbow Dash shout from behind her.
"WHAT THE HAY IS GOING ON HERE?!?!"
Ditzy lands next to the hole with her head hanging. "I'm sorry Rainbow Dash, I was thinking about something and wasn't looking where I was going. I ran into the pillar." She looks up and tries to give Rainbow Dash her best puppy eyes, only succeeding in sending her eyes in different directions before pulling them back in line again.
Rainbow Dash flys up to the hole, inspecting the damage. "I thought Twilight zaped all the derp outa you in those sessions in her basement. Your not becoming a klutz again are you?"
Ditzy sits and stares at her hooves, on the verge of tears at the mention of her old self. "No, I was distracted. I'm so sorry."
Rainbow looks down from the hole. "It's no biggie. It's just a cloud house, I'll just gather some more cloud and it will be fixed in ten seconds flat." She flinches as more of the wall falls behind her. "Ok, maybe a little longer then ten seconds."
Ditzy opens her mail bag and pulls out a letter. "Here's your mail, it say's its from the wonderbol..." She's cut short as she's sent spinning in the wind. Rainbow Dash rips the letter open with a smile that quickly turns to a frown as she reads it. "Whats wrong Rainbow Dash?"
"I thought it was a letter from Spitfire, but it's just tickets to the next show." She pouts for a second before landing next to Ditzy. "Well, this wall isn't going to fix itself. I guess I better get started."
Ditzy watches as Rainbow fly's off to a nearby cloud and scoops half of it up in one pass. She starts molding it as she fly's it over to the hole. "Can I help Rainbow Dash?"
"No thanks Ditzy, this will only take a second." She shoves the cloud into the hole and smooth's the edges with her hoof.
Ditzy watches as Rainbow completely fills the hole. As soon as she's done she grabs the rest of the cloud and forms a pillar, placing it where Ditzy knocked the first one over. Try as she might, Ditzy couldn't make out the line in the wall where the hole used to be. "Wow Rainbow Dash, your really good with clouds."
"Thanks, I've always been awesome with cloud shaping." Rainbow looks down at Ditzy. "Hey, your not doing anything this weekend right? I got two tickets to the Wonderbolts show this saturday and I hate going alone. Would you want to come?
Ditzy looks up at the rainbow maned mare. "Me? What about your other friends? Don't you usually take Fluttershy?
"Yea but she's going... somewhere. So do you want to go?"
Ditzy wonders about the pause and Rainbow Dash's quick change of subject, but only for a moment. "Uh, sure. I'm not doing anything Saturday, I'd love to come."
Ditzy was flying faster then she had flown before, which wasn't that fast to begin with. She preferred a more leasuraly pace to enjoy the sights. But there was no time for that now, she was late for her meeting with Rainbow Dash at the Cloudesium.
Landing at the gate's she scans the crowd, searching for a hint of rainbow. 'Where is she, She has my ticket. Oo Why didn't we meet up before the show. She hears her name being called and spots a cyan hoof waving from over by a side entrance. She pushes through the crowd, coming out next to Rainbow Dash.
"What took you so long? I thought you weren't going to make it."
"And miss this? Never! I just slept in a little this morning that's all. So should we go get in line?"
"Nah, well just go in here."
Ditzy looks around expecting to see another line forming. She doesn't. Rainbow Dash walks over to the side door and knocks. A burly bouncer steps out and Rainbow Dash hands him the tickets. Ditzy walks up just in time to hear "Go on in Ms. Dash." Ditzy follows her through the door while the bouncer remains outside.
"What was that all about? Where are we going?"
"We got a private pox at the top. Saving Spitfire's life has some perks."
Ditzy smiles at the cocky mare.
"Um Ditzy, your eyes are doing there own thing again..."
Ditzy's eyes had been drifting randomly again and she hadn't even realized it. She concentrate's and they snap straight again. "Better?"
"Yea, are you sure your ok? You've been doing that more and more. Maybe we should go see Twilight after this."
"Yea, Ok."
They climb a set of stairs to the top in silence. Once they arrive Rainbow Dash opens a door and beckons Ditzy through. When she steps through she gasps at how high they were. She leans out and looks down, seeing 6 stories of boxes underneath them.
"Wow Rainbow Dash, we must be almost as high as the Princesses box!"
"Actually, were right UNDER the Princesses box."
Ditzy leans out again, this time looking up. Sure enough, there was the Princess sitting in her royal box with her guards. Ditzy waved to her, then stopped herself. 'What is wrong with me today? I haven't been like this since I finished my sessions with Twilight. I couldn't be going derpy again, could I? She pulls her head back in and sits next to Rainbow Dash.
"Hey, what's wrong? Your in a private box underneath the princess at a Wonderbolts show with the fastest flyer in Equestria, smile!"
Despite her sadness she manages a smile. Rainbow Dash turns back to the show. Ditzy drop the smile immediately, It didn't feel right when she wasn't even remotely happy. She turns her attention to the show just in time to catch the Grand Entrance and all thought of sadness vanish...
