Everpony thinks Nightmare Moon is a mare of evil. But in fact, she just wants to be loved. She is looking for somepony who wouldn't judge her and would be friends with her.
Nightmare Moon feels lonely. And she goes to Ponyville to talk to the six mares who saved Luna. Which pony will be happy to be your friend? And if she finds this pony, will they still be friends or will they be something else? This story takes place before Fluttershy meets Discord
Nightmare Moon was in the Castle of the Two Sisters. She couldn’t deny that she felt alone. Why did the ponies not understand her? Why couldn’t they see that she would never harm her subjects? She let out a sigh. When she planned to make the night eternal, she had no intention of killing any pony, but only intended to stay awake at night. And she failed. Now she had no more Luna. Luna returned to reign with Celestia. She wanted to have a pony that liked her and didn’t see her as evil. But she knew it would be impossible. She flew out of the castle. She wanted to talk to somepony. But with whom? Everypony would probably be afraid of her.
When she passed Ponyville, the ponies fled. Nightmare Moon knew that what she did at the Summer Sun Celebration was unforgivable. She acted like she was mean. Instead of explaining why, she acted as if she were an evil villain. She would try to talk to the friends who freed Luna. But she knew their reaction wouldn’t be good.
And what was true. Twilight Sparkle acted in disbelief, saying that she had defeated her. Rarity fainted at Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon had to take Rarity to bed. Rainbow Dash acted as if she wanted to fight. But Nightmare Moon took a few steps back before flying away. Applejack was speechless. Nightmare Moon went straight through the silence. Pinkie Pie jumped for joy, which seemed good. But, Pinkie Pie began to mention what she had done while smiling and calling her names. Because Pinkie Pie didn’t know her name. Nightmare Moon left the shop sadly, trying to hold back the tears. Pinkie Pie offered to throw a party to cheer her on. No matter how much Nightmare Moon wanted, she wasn’t in the mood. Now all Fluttershy was missing.
When Nightmare Moon arrived at the place of Fluttershy’s house, she saw the yellow Pegasus on its back, feeding the animals. Nightmare Moon went to Fluttershy. Fluttershy heard footsteps and looked back. She flinched and shrugged. Nightmare Moon already imagined this, “Fluttershy. Please don’t be afraid. I will not hurt you”
Fluttershy pulled a hoof from her eye and looked at Nightmare Moon, “r-really?”
“Yes, Fluttershy. Could you stand up, please?” said Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy stood up as she smiled, “I’m sorry. It’s just that you scared me”
Tears began to fall from Nightmare Moon’s eyes. Why was everypony was afraid of her?
Fluttershy noticed Nightmare Moon’s tears, “Why are you crying?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy, “isn’t it obvious? You and your friends don’t like me. And I want to make up and become friends with you. But all you do is act like I’m still an enemy to you!”
Fluttershy went to Nightmare Moon, “Gosh, I didn’t know you felt that. I’m sorry”
“It’s not your fault. I was the villain, after all. And I bet I’m still an enemy to you, even if I want to make amends”, said Nightmare Moon.
“Well, I don’t see you as my enemy anymore”, smiled Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon looked startled at Fluttershy, “what?”
“I don’t see you as my enemy anymore,” repeated Fluttershy. “I can see that you are sorry”
“How do you know?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“I am the element of Kindness”, replied Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled. She had even forgotten that Fluttershy represented this element, “you’re not faking it, are you?”
“No. Of course not,” replied Fluttershy. “Since I saw you, I knew deep down, you were just a solitary mare”
Nightmare Moon was confused, “so why haven’t you ever tried to talk to me before?”
Fluttershy looked sideways, “It’s just that I was afraid of you”
Nightmare Moon looked sadly at the side. She knew that night, she had frightened many ponies. Well, minus the five mares.
“Why this face?” asked Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy, “it is that night that I returned from my exile, I was a very evil mare. Especially with you. I shouldn’t have scared you”
“It’s okay, Nightmare. That was past. I’ve already forgiven you. All that’s left is to My Friends forgive you”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled. At least Fluttershy was different from the other mares. And she was happy about it. Suddenly, it began to get dark. The sun was setting.
“Oh. It’s getting dark. We’d better go inside”, said Fluttershy, before flying to the door. Nightmare Moon followed her.
When they were inside the house, Nightmare Moon was surprised by how much animals Fluttershy had. The animals looked at Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon. When they saw the black alicorn, they hid. Nightmare Moon let out a sigh. Even the animals were afraid of her.
Fluttershy went to the animals that were hidden, “it’s okay, little friends. She will not hurt you”
The animals understood and left their hiding places. Nightmare Moon smiled, “they seem to understand what you’re talking about”
“And they do”, said Fluttershy with a smile.
After Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon had dined, they stayed in the room talking. Fluttershy told about her childhood with Rainbow Dash, about her having suffered Bullying. Nightmare Moon felt sorry for Fluttershy having suffered Bullying. When the clock struck midnight, Fluttershy yawned, “Well, I’m going to bed. Feel free to look at my house”
“Where are you going to sleep?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“Well, I was planning on sleeping on the couch and you could sleep in my bed”, said Fluttershy.
“Sorry, Fluttershy. But I can’t sleep in your bed. I sleep on the couch”, said Nightmare Moon.
“OK. If that’s okay with you ... " said Fluttershy.
By the time the morning arrived, Nightmare Moon felt the sunshine on the couch. She took a cushion from the sofa to cover her face. Fluttershy went downstairs and saw Nightmare Moon on the couch. Fluttershy thought Nightmare Moon was still asleep. Then she opened the door to feed the animals. When Nightmare Moon heard the sound of the door closing, she opened her eyes and went to the door to open. Lucky that Fluttershy didn’t lock, just closed. She stared up at Fluttershy with a smile. Nightmare Moon was happy that she now had a friend. She was grateful that Fluttershy didn’t consider her enemy. Who knows, one day, the other five mares would like to be friends with her. Nightmare Moon was grateful that Fluttershy was the element of Kindness. Because Fluttershy saw kindness in her. She knew the others didn’t show equal kindness to Fluttershy. After Fluttershy finished giving food to the animals, she went to where Nightmare Moon was, “I’m going to have breakfast, if you want to accompany me ...”
Nightmare Moon followed Fluttershy to the table. She noticed that there was a white rabbit on the table, “Angel, this is Nightmare Moon. She’s going to keep us company”
Angel looked uncertain with the alicorn. He picked up a fork from the table and threatened her. Nightmare Moon was scared, “Angel, this is no way to treat our friend and guest”
Angel looked relentless and dropped his fork, “very good, Angel. And as a reward, I’ll give you your favorite salad”
Angel got excited about it and started jumping. Fluttershy smiled at that. Nightmare Moon was surprised that Angel could understand Fluttershy.
Fluttershy went to open a cupboard and took some pancakes to make, she put it in the pan and began to do. Nightmare Moon stared at the table.
When Fluttershy finished making the pancakes she placed one on the Nightmare Moon plate and one on her plate. She picked up a plate and started making the salad for Angel.
Nightmare Moon began to eat the pancake while looking at Fluttershy.
When Fluttershy finished making the salad, she put the lettuce, tomato and carrot pieces on a plate. She took the plate and handed it to Angel. Angel started eating fast. Nightmare Moon was surprised by this, he must be very hungry indeed.
Fluttershy began to eat her pancake. Nightmare Moon has finished eating her pancake, so she just looked at Fluttershy.
When Fluttershy finished eating, she took her plate, from Nightmare Moon and Angel to wash. Angel jumped off the table, but was going to stay home. While Nightmare Moon got up and decided to go outside. She noticed that there was no house other than Fluttershy and that the house was very close to Everfree Florest. She decided to take a walk in the garden. When the animals of the garden saw her, they hid. She was already beginning to feel that everypony would be afraid of her. Will everypony ever want to approach her? She decided to go back inside. Fluttershy was on the sofa sipping tea. She looked at Nightmare Moon. She noticed the sadness in her friend, “Nightmare? It’s all right? Why are you sad?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy, “is that the animals in the garden are afraid of me”
Fluttershy put the cup on the table, “I’ll talk to them. Would you like to go with me?”
Nightmare Moon thought before replying, “Yes, please”
Fluttershy got up and went into the garden. The animals have already left their hiding places, when they saw Fluttershy, they smiled. But when they saw Nightmare Moon next to Fluttershy, they went back to hiding. Fluttershy went to the hideout of each animal, “It’s all right, little friends. She will not hurt you”
The animals were left with doubts before they accepted and left their hiding places. Nightmare Moon knew that even if she talked to the animals, she knew they would ignore what she said and they would remain hidden.
Fluttershy looked back and smiled, “did you see? All we have to do is demonstrate a little bit of kindness”
Nightmare Moon smiled at that. Suddenly, she saw Angel running up to Fluttershy with a watch, “Angel? What happened?”
Angel pointed at the clock before releasing it and wiggling its paws as if it were clock hands and start running in place, “what’s he trying to say, Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy thought before realizing, “Oh my Celestia! I’m late for the picnic!”
“Picnic with who?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“With my friends”, said Fluttershy.
Suddenly, Nightmare Moon felt nervous. What if she has to go? She didn’t want to see them again. If they were already nervous about her coming back to their house, she imagined they would see her at the picnic. They would want to use the elements of Harmony in her, “Nightmare, is everything okay?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy. How would she respond? “I’m just nervous”
“Nervous with what?” asked Fluttershy.
“Nervous that your friends see me again and want to use the elements of Harmony in me”, replied Nightmare Moon.
“Oh. But you don’t have to go if you don’t want to“, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon was surprised, “Really?”
“Really”, replied Fluttershy with a smile.
Fluttershy went back inside to prepare the basket for the picnic. She placed inside the basket a white and red picnic tablecloth, apples, cookies, salad, juice and water. Nightmare Moon stared at Fluttershy. Fluttershy took the basket with her mouth, “well, I’m going. I’ll be back”
Fluttershy closed the door of the house. The animals watched Fluttershy leave. When Fluttershy arrived at the picnic spot, she saw her friends and Spike waiting for them. Rarity wore a yellow hat with a pink ribbon. Spike was on the back of Twilight Sparkle. Pinkie Pie had a basket. Applejack was on the side of Rainbow Dash who were facing each other, “friends, I’ve arrived”
Twilight Sparkle went to Fluttershy, “Fluttershy! We’re glad you came”
“Yes. Because it was you, after all, who was responsible for bringing the food“, said Pinkie Pie, as she smiled.
Fluttershy put the basket on the floor, “if you want to help me, it would be good. This if it’s okay for you”
“Darling, of course your friends will help you”, said Rarity with a smile.
After Fluttershy and her friends had finished picnicking, they began to eat. They kept talking about things that happened. Mainly from Nightmare Moon return.
“Nightmare Moon appeared. How? She was defeated by the elements of Harmony!“ said Twilight Sparkle.
“Maybe she’s also a pony, Twilight”, tried Applejack to come to a conclusion.
“And Darling, why don’t you take some water to calm down?“ Rarity offered a glass of water with her magic.
“Girls! Don’t you understand? Nightmare Moon will bring the eternal night! We need to warn the princess! And use The Elements of Harmony!“ said Twilight Sparkle.
“Twilight, I’m sure she’s good now”, said Fluttershy.
“She may be faking it, Fluttershy. We can’t believe what she says“, said Twilight Sparkle.
“Twilight, I understand your concern. But, I am absolutely certain that Nightmare Moon is good now and she just wants to be our friend”, said Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle looked at Fluttershy with a what Face, “Fluttershy, I understand that you are the element of Kindness. But you can’t be manipulated by her. Don’t you see what she’s up to?“ said Twilight Sparkle.
Fluttershy put the glass of water on the floor, “do you know what I think, Twilight? It’s just that you’re not giving her a chance”
“Fluttershy, you should realize. Nightmare Moon already planned to cause the eternal night after her exile. And now she has returned. You can’t be taken by the words of Nightmare Moon“, said Twilight Sparkle.
“Why don’t you give her a chance and become friends with her, Twilight?” asked Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle looked with a face of astonishment and possibly of anger, “Me? Become a friend of our enemy? Never!”
“Then, try to at least believe she will not hurt anypony”, said Fluttershy with a smile.
“I don’t know, Fluttershy ...” said Twilight Sparkle hesitantly.
“Come on, trust me”, said Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle let out a defeated sigh, “okay. But I will only do this because you are the element of Kindness”
Fluttershy smiled, “Thank you, Twilight. Now, let’s continue with the picnic”
It was almost dark now, and Nightmare Moon was bored. At least, Angel went to her. She decided to caress him, “I don’t know what to do, Angel. Do you have any idea?”
Angel thought before pointing out and pointing to the sky, “stay outside to see the night sky?”
Angel nodded. Nightmare Moon got up and saw the moon rising on the horizon. Luna was actually doing a good job with the night sky. Suddenly she saw Fluttershy with the basket in her mouth. Nightmare Moon smiled to see Fluttershy, “Fluttershy! Glad you returned! How was the picnic?”
“Was good. Although Twilight Sparkle mentioned you“, replied Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle mentioned her? “She said nothing about wanting to use the elements in me, did she?” asked Nightmare Moon nervously.
“Well, she did”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon was nervous, “she doesn’t know we’re friends, does she?”
“Oh no, no. I didn’t even tell her. I just said she should take you a chance“, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled before embracing Fluttershy, “Thank you, Fluttershy! You really are the right pony I’ve befriended!”
Fluttershy was surprised by the hug, but then smiled, “I’m glad you found it”
“Well, we better get in”, said Fluttershy.
“Yeah, you’re right”, agreed Nightmare Moon.
As they entered, the animals smiled to see Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon was glad that the animals inside Fluttershy’s house were no longer afraid of her. And it made her smile, “they are no longer afraid of me, Fluttershy”
Fluttershy smiled, “as I said before, All we have to do is show a little Kindness”
Nightmare Moon smiled at that, “Yeah, you’re right”
It was another day, and Fluttershy was preparing her backpack. Nightmare Moon was curious, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to Ponyville fair to get some fruit and vegetables. If you want to go with me, you can”, replied Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon thought. She didn’t want to go. But she didn’t want to be alone here either.
I think I’d better go with you. I just hope no pony is scared and wants to come and fight with me.
“I’d like to go along with you. But promise you will not let anypony come and attack me?” said Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy smiled, “Of course I will. After all, we are friends”
When Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy arrived in Ponyville they all looked at Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon. When they saw Nightmare Moon, they all ran away. Nightmare Moon let out a sigh, “Why do they still see me as evil?”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon, “some ponies haven’t gotten used to it yet”
When they arrived at the fair, many ponies rushed out. Well, except the pony seller. When Fluttershy arrived at the tomato stall she hit a hoof on the table, “It’s me, Fluttershy”
The mare looked at Fluttershy, “I came to buy tomatoes, do you have them?”
When the mare saw Nightmare Moon, she hid. And with a hoof, pointed to the tomatoes.
Fluttershy was sad that the ponies still saw Nightmare Moon as a threat to Equestria. But she paid with bits and went to the lettuce shack. Luckily, the pony didn’t hide. Just trembling with fear, “I came to buy lettuce, do you have it?”
The pony, afraid, threw the lettuce on Fluttershy’s face. Nightmare Moon was angry. How dare he do that to her only friend? Nightmare Moon took the pony with its magic, “How dare you hurt my only friend?!”
The pony struggled to escape the magic. Fluttershy, noticing this, went to calm Nightmare Moon, “it’s all right, Nightmare. I’m not hurt”
Nightmare Moon noticed what she was doing, calmed down, dropped the pony, and looked sadly at the Ground, “I’m sorry, Fluttershy. Is that when he threw the lettuce in your face, I couldn’t feel anything, but anger”
Fluttershy smiled, “It’s okay. You just wanted to protect me”
Nightmare Moon smiled. She was glad that Fluttershy understood her.
After they had bought food at the fair, Fluttershy opened the door, accompanied by Nightmare Moon, “the food arrived ~”
All the animals were happy. Fluttershy took the food she bought and gave to each animal. After she gave The food, she went to make her breakfast. She planned to eat eggs. But unfortunately she hadn’t eggs, “oh no”
“What is it, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“I was planning on making eggs, but i don’t have. We’re going to have to get eggs on the Applejack farm”, explained Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon thought of going along. Because Applejack showed no sign of anger or fear. Just surprise. That was a good thing, right?
“I’ll go with you. I just hope Applejack doesn’t mind with my presence”, said Nightmare Moon.
“Okay. If it’s all right for you ...” said Fluttershy.
When Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon arrived at Sweet Apple Acres, they saw Applejack slamming into an apple tree. Fluttershy approached, “Hi, Applejack”
“Howdy, partners”, greeted Applejack.
“Do you have any eggs in the chicken coop?” asked Flurtteshy.
“I’ll go see now”, replied Applejack.
Applejack went to the chicken coop and arrived if a chicken threw an egg. And luckily, it had two eggs. Applejack took the two eggs and handed it to Nightmare and Fluttershy. Fluttershy smiled, “Thank you, Applejack”
“You’re welcome, Fluttershy”, said Applejack.
When Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy leave the Farm, Nightmare Moon can’t help, but notice that Applejack hasn’t shown fear, “She wasn’t afraid of me...”
“I know. Maybe she must have already accepted you’re good now”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy were already eating the eggs. Until, she heard a knock at the door. She went to the door to answer, and saw Rarity, “dear, I need you in the boutique”
“Okay, Rarity, I’ll go”, said Fluttershy before closing the door.
Fluttershy went to Nightmare Moon, “Who was at the door?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“Rarity. She needs me at Boutique Carrousel. Would you like to go with me?” said Fluttershy.
“I think so. I just hope I don’t scare any of your friends“, replied Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy nodded. She and Nightmare Moon went to the door. Rarity was surprised to see Nightmare Moon, “N-Nightmare! I...I…”
Fluttershy looked at Rarity with a serious face. Rarity noticed, relaxed and said, “Come on, dears”
When they arrived at Boutique Carrousel, they went up one floor. Rarity opened the door, “they arrived”
Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Pinkie Pie looked and realized that Nightmare Moon was next to Fluttershy. Each one had a different reaction. Pinkie Pie looked happy, Applejack was using a friendly smile, Rainbow Dash was in a position as if preparing to strike and Twilight Sparkle was in an attacking position.
“Well, let’s get started. How do you want your dresses for the Great Galloping Gala?“ said Rarity.
Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash have stopped making attacking positions.
“I want mine to be twenty percent cool!” exclaimed Rainbow Dash proudly.
“I want mine to have stars”, said Twilight Sparkle.
“Mine can be cowmare-themed”, said Applejack.
“Mine could have candy!” cried Pinkie Pie cheerfully.
“Mine could have butterflies. That if it’s not too uncomfortable for you...“ said Fluttershy.
“OK. And you, Nightmare Moon?“ said Rarity.
“I don’t know. Can’t I go without a dress? Can’t I go like this?“ asked Nightmare Moon.
“But my dear, why go to a party without wearing clothes?” asked Rarity.
“We’re ponies”, pointed Nightmare Moon.
“But even if we are ponies we have to look fabulous at this formal Gala”, said Rarity.
“OK. I wish my dress was black“, said Nightmare Moon.
“Just black?” asked Rarity.
“Yes. Only black“, replied Nightmare Moon.
After Rarity finished making the dresses, she called for her friends and Nightmare Moon. They had all liked the dresses they had experienced and matched well with them. Nightmare Moon experienced the black dress and looked good. But she was without her armor. So that it would match the dress better.
“If I were Hoity Toity, I would say that these dresses are wonderful and that they match a lot with you, darlings”, said Rarity with admiration. “Now I just have to do my”
After Fluttershy, Nightmare Moon and the others finished, each went to they house. Well less Rarity, that was already in her house.
“When will this gala take place? Am I going to be able to go along?“ asked Nightmare Moon. “Like, I already have a dress”
“It will happen in The end of this year”, replied Flurtteshy.
“Will it be long?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“It’s still springtime, Nightmare,” replied Fluttershy.
“Well, at least it will not be that long,” Nightmare Moon smiled.
The Great Galloping Gala has finally arrived. And Fluttershy, Nightmare Moon and the others were getting ready at the Carousel Boutique.
“What do you plan to do, Fluttershy?” asked Twilight Sparkle.
“I plan to stay in Canterlot’s Garden with Nightmare Moon”, smiled Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon blushed as Twilight Sparkle rolled her eyes. Twilight Sparkle hadn’t yet become accustomed to the idea of Fluttershy being friends with an enemy of her, “Fluttershy, didn’t you plan to stay in the garden to see the animals? You told me that was one of the reasons you wanted to go to the Gala”
“Yes, Twilight. I plan to do this. But now with Nightmare Moon being my friend, I plan to spend time with her in the garden”, said Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle rolled her eyes again. She didn’t understand why Fluttershy wanted to pass the Gala with a villain Instead of do what Fluttershy always wanted to do at the Gala.
When Fluttershy’s friends, Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon arrived at the castle, each went to one side. Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon went into the garden. They sat and stared at the stars, “Fluttershy ...”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon, “yes? Is something bothering you?”
“Well ... It’s just .... Fluttershy, I ... I ... Since I befriended you, I started to consider you the closest pony I’ve ever had,” said Nightmare Moon. “And I couldn’t help, but be happy about it. Thanks”
Fluttershy smiled, “You’re welcome. I’m glad you think so "
Nightmare Moon hugged Fluttershy with a wing as she smiled. Nightmare Moon kissed Fluttershy’s forehead.
Twilight Sparkle was at her mentor’s side. Celestia was cupriming the guests. As Celestia did so, Twilight Sparkle began to think about what was happening. She couldn’t help but notice that Nightmare Moon spent a lot of time with Fluttershy. Was Nightmare Moon just pretending to like Fluttershy so that a bearer of the Elements of Harmony would be against his friends and the princess?
“Is everything okay, Twilight?” asked Celestia.
Twilight Sparkle looked at Celestia, “oh! Yes, Princess. Sorry if I stayed too quiet”
“OK. So how have your days been in Ponyville?” asked Celestia.
“It was great, princess. I learned so much about friendship”, replied Twilight Sparkle.
“I know, Twilight. I received and read all your letters”, said Celestia with a smile.
When the gala was over, Nightmare Moon, Fluttershy and the others went home. Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy flew to the hut so no pony could see them. Fluttershy didn’t like to fly. But Fluttershy knew she should do it for Nightmare Moon. When they arrived at the house, all the animals outside and inside the house were asleep. Fluttershy was climbing the stairs, she heard a sound coming from behind her. She looked back and saw Nightmare Moon behind her. Nightmare Moon stopped, now blushed.
“Nightmare? Why are you following me? Aren’t you going to sleep on the couch?” asked Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon stared at the floor, still blushed, “i... I thought it would be nice if we slept together?”
Now who blushed was Fluttershy, “okay. If it’s okay for you”
When morning came, Fluttershy awoke. The blanket was on the floor. She was about to get out of bed to see if the animals woke up. But, felt her being hugged by front hooves. She was pulled back into bed, against her own will. Fluttershy tried to wake up Nightmare Moon, poking her with a hull, “Nightmare”
Nightmare Moon, smiling, opened her eyes, but not totally, “hhmm?”
“If it’s not too uncomfortable, could you let me go?” said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon was confused. She opened her eyes fully and realized that she was hugging Fluttershy in bed, “I-I’m... I’m sorry, Fluttershy”
“Don’t apologize, Nightmare. It wasn’t your fault. You were asleep”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled, “Yeah. You're right”
Fluttershy got out of bed and checked to see if any of the animals had woken up. And from her surprise, no animal woke up. Well, maybe she’ll make her breakfast and Nightmare Moon.
Nightmare Moon was staring out the window. She couldn’t help but notice the sun. Just to see the sun, it reminded her of Celestia. Does Celestia know she’s still alive? And if she does, will Celestia want to end her? What if…
“Nightmare, the coffee is ready!”
Nightmare Moon heard Fluttershy’s voice and left the room. When she arrived at the table, she thought about talking about what bothered her. After all, they were friends, right?
Fluttershy noticed the tension in Nightmare Moon, “Nightmare, is everything okay?”
“I’m just nervous, Fluttershy”, replied Nightmare Moon.
“With what?” asked Fluttershy.
“I’m nervous that Celestia I’ll find out I’m still alive”, replied Nightmare Moon.
“Don’t worry. There’s no way Celestia can figure it out”, said Fluttershy.
“Really?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“Unless Twilight Sparkle tells Celestia. Since she’s a Celestia student,” said Fluttershy. “But I’m sure she’s willing to give you a chance”
Nightmare Moon hoped that was true. Almost all Fluttershy’s friends were her friends. Only Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle who suspected Nightmare Moon were still evil.
Twilight Sparkle was in your library. She kept pacing in worried circles. Should she tell Celestia? She knew she couldn’t tell Celestia, because she promised Fluttershy she would give Nightmare Moon a chance. But a part of her wanted to tell Celestia about Nightmare Moon’s return. What should she do? She had two ideas. Maybe she should peek at Nightmare Moon or spend a few days with Fluttershy to see how Nightmare Moon treated Fluttershy. That was what she was going to do. She would spend several days with Fluttershy until she saw Nightmare Moon do something bad, “Spike”
Spike went to Twilight Sparkle, “What is it, Twilight?”
“I’m going to spend a few days at Fluttershy’s, okay?”
“Ok, Twilight. I think I can manage here on my own ”
“Thanks, Spike”, said Twilight Sparkle as she grabbed her backpack and stuffed books, a scroll, and a quill, before heading for the door and closing it.
Okay. It’s time for Fluttershy to realize how fake and mean Nightmare Moon is.
Nightmare Moon was watching Fluttershy take care of the animals. Fluttershy was feeding the fish, “Fluttershy, I have a question”
Fluttershy stopped what she was doing and looked at Nightmare Moon, “what’s the question?”
“How can you get each animal’s food right without being afraid that one day you’ll get the wrong food?” asked Nightmare Moon. This was something that made her curious every day she spent with Fluttershy.
“It’s just that before I started taking care of the animals, I had to study what each species ate”, Fluttershy replied.
“It must have been hard. Decorate what each animal ate. If I were you, I would have already given the wrong food to an animal”, said Nightmare Moon.
“Well, at first I felt it too. But every day, I began to know up front what each animal ate”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled. Suddenly they heard footsteps. They looked where the sound was coming from. They were surprised to see Twilight Sparkle run with a backpack. Nightmare Moon got scared. Did in the backpack contain the elements of harmony? When Twilight came very close to the two she stopped, “Hi, Fluttershy”
“Hi Twilight. What do you do here? Not that your company isn’t good. I mean, you can come here anytime… ”
“Fluttershy, I get what you mean”, said Twilight Sparkle, still smiling.
“Oh ok. So what do you doing here?” Fluttershy asked, smiling gently.
“I came here to spend a few days with you both,” replied Twilight Sparkle. “Is it okay for both of you?”
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon looked at each other before turning back to look at Twilight Sparkle, “Is it okay if Nightmare Moon and I are going to talk privately?”
Twilight Sparkle’s smile faltered for a few seconds, “sure”
Fluttershy smiled before going to Nightmare Moon and motioning to follow her. Nightmare Moon did what Fluttershy asked, “so what?”
Nightmare Moon was confused, “so what?” she whispered.
“Should we let her stay? Because I realize you’re afraid of her”, Fluttershy whispered back.
Nightmare Moon looked uncertain, “I don’t know. What if this is all a trick?”
“Well, I’m sure it’s not a trick. Maybe she has forgiven you”, Fluttershy whispered.
Nightmare Moon began to think. She realized that Twilight didn’t mind her presence. Maybe Twilight has forgiven her. She was going to give Twilight a chance, “ok”, whispered Nightmare Moon.
They returned to where Twilight Sparkle. They realized that Twilight was still smiling. She must be having a great day to be happy, “we decided, Twilight ...”
Twilight began to sweat nervously, “... you can stay here”
Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of relief, “thanks, Fluttershy”
“You’re welcome. But don’t hurt Nightmare Moon”, said Fluttershy.
Twilight still smiling, said, “Of course, Fluttershy. I know the way I acted was wrong”
Fluttershy smiled, “I’m happy about that. Would you like to enter the house?”
“It depends. Are you staying here yet?” said Twilight Sparkle.
“Yes. I still have some animals left to feed”, Fluttershy replied.
“Then I’ll be out here watching you”, said Twilight Sparkle.
“OK. Would you like me to bring you a snack?” asked Fluttershy with a smile.
“Yes. Please”, replied Twilight Sparkle with a smile.
“OK. Nightmare, would you like to come along?” asked Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon was still unsure about Twilight so, “yes. Please, Fluttershy ”
“OK. Follow me”, said Fluttershy, before starting to walk. Nightmare Moon followed her.
Twilight Sparkle watched Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon leave. She was surprised. She didn’t expect that. But soon recovered.
If you think I won’t keep my eyes on you, you’re wrong, Nightmare Moon.
While That, inside, Fluttershy was preparing the sandwiches, Nightmare Moon was helping her. Nightmare Moon was putting bread on plates and Fluttershy was putting sliced cucumber on bread.
“Fluttershy, I have a bad feeling”, said Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon, “What foreboding?”
“What if Twilight is faking. And all this is nothing but her wanting to watch me”, replied Nightmare Moon.
“Well, I’m sure she has changed. But if you think she hasn’t changed yet, maybe over time you’ll get used to her. And maybe you two even can become friends”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon smiled. She liked the fact that Fluttershy believed the ponies had a good side, “How can you be so good, Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy grinned back, “maybe it’s because I always believe that even if the pony is mean, he’s just feeling lonely”
Nightmare Moon was worried, “Do you still think I’m mean?”
Fluttershy was surprised, “what? No. That was just to refer to the ponies that are still evil”
Nightmare Moon smiled with relief. When the sandwiches were ready, Nightmare Moon picked up the sandwich plate with her magic. They started walking to where Twilight Sparkle was. Twilight was on her back. She heard footsteps and looked back. Twilight smiled. So that Fluttershy wouldn’t doubt her.
“Nightmare Moon and I brought sandwiches”, said Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle, still smiling, said, “Sandwiches? It’s my favorite food”
Nightmare Moon set the plate of sandwiches on the floor. Each took a sandwich and began to eat.
When night came, Fluttershy picked up the plate that was lying on the floor.
“I’ll make your bed, Twilight”, Fluttershy said before leaving.
Twilight and Nightmare Moon followed Fluttershy. Nightmare Moon wanted to say something to Twilight. But she had no business to talk about.
When Fluttershy finished making Twilight’s bed, she returned to the ground floor. Nightmare Moon and Twilight were sitting together on the couch. Twilight was trying to show happiness. She was fighting not to be uncomfortable. Fluttershy went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. In the living room was absolute silence. Nightmare Moon tried to come up with a subject, “So, Twilight…”
Twilight’s ears brightened, “… how are your days in Ponyville?”
Twilight looked at Nightmare Moon, “Why do you want to know?”
“It is an absolute silence. I just wish I could talk to you”, Nightmare Moon replied.
Twilight Sparkle let out a breath, she couldn’t believe she was going to say that, but she said, “ok. What subjects should we talk about?”
“About a subject that interests you, perhaps?” replied Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle, again sighed, “ok”
When dinner was done, Fluttershy called Twilight and Nightmare Moon. They entered the house. Nightmare Moon sat next to Fluttershy. Twilight watched Nightmare Moon. She Watched out what Nightmare Moon could do, “Twilight, aren’t you going to eat?”
Twilight Sparkle stopped what she was doing and smiled nervously, “oh. I was going to eat”, Twilight took the spoon to eat the soup.
Fluttershy watched Twilight eat for a few seconds before resuming eating. When Twilight realized that Fluttershy was no longer looking she let out a sigh of relief.
Phem.
It’s been a few minutes, and it’s almost midnight, Fluttershy yawned, “Well, I’m going to sleep. Make both yourself comfortable”
“Ok, Fluttershy. Good night”, said Twilight Sparkle, smiling.
When Fluttershy left, Twilight Sparkle got up from the couch and headed for the door. Curious, Nightmare Moon followed Twilight Sparkle. And she was surprised to see Twilight staring at the night sky. She decided to sit next to Twilight. Twilight glanced sideways and saw Nightmare Moon, “ah. Is you”
“Are you doing what I think you are doing?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle looked at Nightmare Moon confusedly, “What do you think I’m doing?”
“Are you looking at the night sky?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“Yes. So what?” said Twilight Sparkle.
“It’s just that no pony has ever admired my night”, Nightmare Moon replied.
Twilight Sparkle was surprised while still looking at Nightmare Moon, “thank you”
Twilight Sparkle was speechless, but soon recovered, “no. You don’t bring the night”
Nightmare Moon was surprised, “what?”
“Who brings the night is Princess Luna. You’re just a dark mare who manipulated Luna”, said Twilight Sparkle.
“Well, you’re right. But that was past. Now I want to be friends with you all”, said Nightmare Moon.
“Save my words, Nightmare Moon. You may have manipulated Fluttershy, but you won’t manipulate me”, says Twilight Sparkle. That said, Twilight left where she was and headed home to go to sleep.
When Twilight Sparkle left, she let out a breath. Why didn’t Twilight want to be her friend? Well, Twilight wasn’t the only one missing. Rainbow Dash also didn’t see Nightmare Moon as good yet. She decided to go to sleep too. She got up and headed toward Fluttershy’s house. When she entered, Nightmare Moon closed the door with her magic.
Well, maybe I should think positive. Almost all Fluttershy friends are my friends. The only ones that still come to me as bad is Twilight and Rainbow Dash.
Nightmare Moon was at Fluttershy’s bedroom door. With a hoof she opened the door and went inside. She watched Fluttershy’s sleeping form before going to bed and sleeping.
When Nightmare Moon woke up, she felt as if the bed was empty. She opened her eyes and saw that the bed was really empty. But she knew she didn’t needed to panic. Because she knew Fluttershy was out of the house feeding the animals. She got out of bed, made her bed, went downstairs, and went outside. She watched Twilight Sparkle watch Fluttershy feed the animals. Nightmare Moon decided to sit well away from Twilight. Because she was still afraid of Twilight. Although she was scared, she decided to keep looking at Fluttershy. Nightmare Moon just hoped Twilight wasn’t looking at her.
“I have finished feeding the animals. Now we can eat”, said Fluttershy, as she approached Twilight and Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon got up and followed Fluttershy. Nightmare Moon decided to look at Twilight. She couldn’t help but notice that Twilight was smiling. She didn’t understand why Twilight was a different pony now.
When Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon arrived at the table, they watched Fluttershy prepare the pancakes. Nightmare Moon decided to look at Twilight Sparkle. She noticed Twilight watching Fluttershy make the pancakes. She thought Twilight was ignoring her, so she decided to talk a little with Twilight, “Twilight”
Twilight’s smile changed to a possible grumpy face and looked at Nightmare Moon, “what do you want?”
Nightmare Moon tried to come up with a subject, “Do you plan on going somewhere today?”
Twilight Sparkle thought for a moment before answering, “yes. I’m going to a Ponyville library to read. And it’s not the Golden Oka’s Tree Library”
“Would you like me to come along?” offered Nightmare Moon with a friendly smile.
Twilight Sparkle was surprised, but soon replied, “no!”
Fluttershy looked back in confusion. Because she heard the Twilight scream, “Twilight, why did you scream?”
Fluttershy waited for the answer, “is because of what?”
“… It’s because… Because… Because Nightmare Moon asked me what I think of her doing eternal night!” replied Twilight Sparkle.
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon were surprised. Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon, “Nightmare, is that true?”
“No, Fluttershy! Isn’t true! I swear! She is lying! I asked her if I could go with her to the library”, replied Nightmare Moon desperately.
Fluttershy looked at Twilight Sparkle with little satisfaction, “Twilight. You shouldn’t blame it on Nightmare Moon”
Twilight Sparkle looked sorry, “You’re right, Fluttershy. Do you forgive me, Fluttershy?”
Fluttershy smiled, “Of course, Twilight”, she returned to her task.
Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of relief. She hated lying to Fluttershy. But it would be worth it. Because after all, Nightmare Moon was the villain. She knew that after Nightmare Moon showed her wickedness and was defeated, Fluttershy would apologize to her and would feel sorry for making friends with a villain.
“The pancakes are ready!” Fluttershy placed the three pancakes on each plate separately and set it on the table.
While eating, Nightmare Moon could feel nothing, but going along with Twilight in the library would only mean that Twilight would do something bad to her.
After they ate, Twilight Sparkle grabbed her backpack and was about to leave until she saw Nightmare Moon coming to her, “are you sure you want to come along? I’ll be in the library all day”
Nightmare Moon began to think better. Maybe she shouldn’t go. Because many ponies would be afraid of her. And Twilight Sparkle probably wouldn’t try to calm down the ponies. But she wanted to be friends with Twilight. Then she would go, “yes. If I get bored, can I come back here?”
Twilight Sparkle rolled his eyes, “yes. Sure. Whatever”, she began to walk. Nightmare Moon followed her.
Fluttershy watched Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon leave together. She really hoped Twilight would treat Nightmare Moon well.
Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle took a book out of her backpack to read. Nightmare Moon watched Twilight read. She wondered if Twilight wasn’t afraid of tripping over a pony for not looking ahead. Now it was hoping everything would work out.
When they arrived in the city of Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle stopped reading. Nightmare Moon couldn’t help, but notice that several ponies cringed in fright. But what struck her most was seeing a number of frightened foals. Some foals fled, others left crying. Nightmare Moon couldn’t help but feel sad about it.
Why are foals afraid of me? I love foals.
When they arrived at the library, Twilight Sparkle opened the door with a hull and waited for Nightmare Moon to enter. Nightmare came in and waited for Twilight. Twilight came in and closed the door with her magic. Twilight couldn’t believe she was doing this. Twilight and Nightmare Moon went to a mare that was on a table. She was wearing glasses and the horsehair was in a ponytail, “I came to return this book”
The mare took the book with her magic, “thank you. You can get another book”
Twilight Sparkle nodded. She couldn’t help noticing that this mare was not frightened by Nightmare Moon. Well, she was relieved. Because after all, Twilight wouldn’t stand next to a villain and say to a scared pony, “ah. Don’t be afraid. Nightmare Moon doesn’t want to hurt you.” Because Twilight will never be next to a villain and will always be loyal to Celestia.
Twilight Sparkle sat at a table and Nightmare Moon decided to explore the library. Nightmare Moon couldn’t help but notice that there were several books in the library. She like reading books, but at the moment Nightmare Moon didn’t feel willing to read. Just explore the library.
After several hours, Nightmare Moon felt bored. Nightmare Moon didn’t want to read now, she would like to go home. She would do that. She just hoped Twilight Sparkle hadn’t left yet. And luckily for her, Twilight Sparkle was still reading. Nightmare Moon poked Twilight. Twilight stopped reading and looked at Nightmare Moon unhappy, “what do you want?”
“I just wanted to warn you that I’ll be back home from Fluttershy”, replied Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle rolled her eyes, “ok. Of course”, she said before going back to her reading.
Nightmare Moon went to the door and opened it with a hoof. That done, she went out and closed the door with her magic. Then, she flew toward Fluttershy’s house. Lucky she knew where it was.
Meanwhile, in the library, Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of relief. Nightmare Moon’s company was unbearable. She couldn’t concentrate or read well.
Finally she left. After I finish reading this book, I’m going back to Fluttershy’s house. And I will try not to show my bad temper to Fluttershy. Because I don’t want her to be suspicious.
Fluttershy was giving dinner to the animals outside until he heard a flapping sound. She looked back and saw Nightmare Moon, “Nightmare! How was your day at the library?”
Nightmare Moon smiled, “It was good, Fluttershy. I kept exploring what it was like. And I must admit: Libraries are really huge”
“Do you like reading books?” asked Fluttershy.
“Yes. But I don’t read that often”, said Nightmare Moon, with her ears lowered.
“Not everypony has time to do what they like. For example, me. I like to sing. But as I always take care of the animals there is hardly time”, said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon’s ears brightened, “Do you sing? Can I hear you singing?”
Fluttershy looked a little scared, “n-no. I’m afraid of singing in public”
Nightmare Moon understood, “oh. I didn’t know you were afraid to sing in public. I’m sorry. If you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to sing. I wasn’t really sending it. I just wanted to hear your sweet voice”
Fluttershy blushed pink with the last two words, “thank you”
“If you’re afraid that I’ll laugh, know that I would never laugh at the kindest pony which offered to be my friend”, smiled Nightmare Moon.
“I’m glad to hear this. Well, let’s go in. I’ll prepare dinner”, said Fluttershy.
Still smiling, Nightmare Moon said, “Of course, Fluttershy”
Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle was already at Fluttershy’s place. She wondered how to prove Nightmare Moon was mean. But how? She looked ahead and saw Nightmare Moon enter the house. She already had an idea what to do to ignore Nightmare Moon. She was going to be reading a book and pretending that Nightmare Moon wasn’t even at Fluttershy’s house. As she entered the house, she looked left and saw Nightmare Moon sitting watching Fluttershy make dinner. Twilight Sparkle looked at her backpack and opened it, and from inside pulled out a book she took to read as she headed toward it. She took the book, opened it, and began to read. Lucky, she knew what was in Fluttershy’s house, so she wouldn’t be unlucky to fall or fall.
Nightmare Moon heard footsteps and noticed Twilight Sparkle reading the same book that she read as she walked toward the library. Nightmare Moon blew out a breath. Why was Twilight ignoring her? Why did Twilight still think she was mean? She was a good pony now.
“Dinner is ready”, said Fluttershy, handing over the salad.
Twilight, Nightmare, and Fluttershy helped themselves. Twilight had an idea how to break Fluttershy’s friendship with Nightmare Moon. Her idea was to ask something polemic, “Nightmare”
Nightmare Moon, with her mouth full, looked at Twilight Sparkle, “It’s Is it true that you are carnivorous? That is, do you eat meat?”
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon spit out what was in their mouths, “what?!” asked Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon in unison.
“Are you a carnivore? That is, do you eat meat? ”Twilight Sparkle repeated the question.
“No! I’m not! I may have prey, but I am herbivorous like all of you”, replied Nightmare Moon, still scared.
“So why do you look scared? Looks like I discovered something bad from you”, said Twilight Sparkle, now smiling mischievously.
“I’m scared because of the question you gave me, Twilight!” exclaimed Nightmare Moon, still scared.
“It’s a lie. You’re scared because I figured out your plan”
“I have no plan to master Equestria!”
“Sorry to interrupt. But Twilight, why did you want to ask Nightmare Moon that?” said Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon and Twilight Sparkle looked at Fluttershy, “to see if she ate ponies”, replied Twilight Sparkle.
Nightmare Moon looked at Twilight Sparkle, “I don’t eat ponies! I am herbivorous! I would never eat my own kind! I’m not a cannibal!”
Fluttershy went to Nightmare Moon to hug her, “It’s okay, Nightmare. I trust you”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy and smiled. Nightmare Moon was glad Fluttershy believed her. Meanwhile, Twilight was banging her head on the table. That would be harder than she imagined.
It was another day, and Fluttershy woke up and got up to feed the animals. She let Nightmare Moon sleep in bed. She covered her friend with the blanket and walked down the steps. When she arrived downstairs, Fluttershy realized that Twilight Sparkle was already awake. Twilight was reading a book she brought. Fluttershy, with a smile, went to Twilight to say, “Good morning, Twilight. Sleep well?”
Twilight Sparkle stopped reading and looked at Fluttershy with a friendly smile, “Good morning, Fluttershy. Yes, I slept well”
Twilight Sparkle realized that Nightmare Moon wasn’t with Fluttershy, “Where’s Nightmare Moon?”
“She’s still sleeping”, replied Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle said “Oh”, “ok”
Fluttershy went to the kitchen to get each animal’s food. Twilight watched Fluttershy do this before looking at the stairs and sulking.
I bet Nightmare Moon is pretending to sleep. I bet she’s in the portal of dreams making the ponies, especially the foals have nightmares.
Twilight Sparkle decided to check Nightmare Moon to be sure. But she wouldn’t go without warning Fluttershy, “Fluttershy”
Fluttershy came out of the kitchen. She held several foods in her hooves, “yes?”
“Is it okay for me to check out Nightmare Moon?” asked Twilight Sparkle.
Fluttershy smiled, “Of course, Twilight. Just don’t wake her up, please”
Twilight Sparkle realized that Fluttershy was holding a lot of food, “Fluttershy, do you want help?”
“It’s very kind of you, but no. I’m used to doing this on my own”, replied Fluttershy, before setting the food on the floor and grabbing a salad. Fluttershy went to the door and opened to hand the salad to the sleeping rabbits outside.
Twilight Sparkle watched Fluttershy disappear from her sight before looking at the stairs. Now was the time.
Very well, Nightmare Moon. Let’s see if you’re pretending to sleep or not.
Twilight Sparkle climbed the steps to a corridor with a door. It could only be Fluttershy’s room. Twilight Sparkle opened the door with her magic and saw that the room was dark. In bed was Nightmare Moon, without her armor. Twilight Sparkle approached the bed and watched the sleeping form of Nightmare Moon. Twilight Sparkle got a grumpy face when she realized that Nightmare Moon was smiling. Just seeing her enemy sleeping in Fluttershy’s bed made her angry. Did Nightmare Moon bewitch Fluttershy for her to do whatever the Mare in the Moon said? Could only be. She needed to do something to make the friendship between Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon end. To tell the truth, she didn’t think it was friendship. In fact, Twilight thought Fluttershy was mesmerized and that made her loyal to Nightmare Moon. But she would do anything to end it and have Fluttershy back beside her. But how?
Twilight Sparkle looked back and saw a side table with Nightmare Moon’s armor and helmet. Twilight had an idea. She would hide the armor and the helmet. Maybe by doing that, the spell breaks down? Twilight Sparkle grabbed the armor and the helmet with her magic and slipped out of the room. She had to hope not to be seen by any animals or Fluttershy. When Twilight arrived downstairs, she realized that Fluttershy was very close to the door. But she was still feeding the animals. Twilight Sparkle crept into the kitchen to find a place to hide the armor and the helmet. She saw a cupboard and hoped there were no dishes in it, and luckily, there were no dishes. It was empty. She opened the closet and put the helmet on top and the armor below. That done, she closed and stood at the table waiting for breakfast. Now it was hoping Nightmare Moon was looking at Fluttershy while Fluttershy opened the closet.
When Nightmare Moon woke up, she got up and stretched. She looked at the place she put on the armor and her helmet. But to her surprise, it wasn’t there. She was worried. Where was your armor and helmet? Did Twilight Sparkle catch her while she slept? She was going to have to talk to Twilight. She went to the door and opened it with her magic. She couldn’t help but notice that the hallway to Fluttershy’s room was beautiful. As she descended the stairs, she noticed that Twilight Sparkle was on the table. When she arrived downstairs, Nightmare Moon saw Fluttershy feeding the animals. After seeing that Fluttershy was safe, she decided to ask Twilight about the armor and the helmet.
“Good morning, Twilight”, greeted Nightmare Moon as she sat down.
Twilight Sparkle was in a bad mood, “Hi, Nightmare Moon”
“Do you know where my armor and helmet are?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle raised her eyeshadow, “no. Why do you think that?”
“You always get in a bad mood when I talk to you. It’s like you still see me as an enemy”, said Nightmare Moon.
“And I still see you as my enemy. I won’t fall for your lies and games”, said Twilight Sparkle.
Nightmare Moon wanted to try to be friends with Twilight, “please, Twilight. Explain it to me. Why do you still see me as evil?”
Twilight Sparkle was annoyed, “Why? Why?! Simple. You want to destroy Princess Celestia and cause eternal night. And besides, you used Luna”
Nightmare Moon was saddened by these words, “I know I wasn’t good in the past. But I’m trying to be a good pony now. I’m good now”
Twilight Sparkle shook her head, “It’s no use, Nightmare. I will never be your friend. And I think it’s good that you stop being friends, or better, get Fluttershy out of that spell you put on her”
Nightmare Moon was surprised, “I would never cast a spell on my friend, Twilight!”
Twilight Sparkle stood up, “Do you really think I’ll believe what you say? If you think so, you’re wrong. I will not give up”
Nightmare Moon blew out a breath as she looked at the floor sadly. She really didn’t understand why Twilight didn’t believe her.
Suddenly they heard wings fluttering. Nightmare Moon and Twilight Sparkle looked at Fluttershy. Twilight Sparkle was looking at Fluttershy with a smile and Nightmare Moon looked sad. Fluttershy looked worriedly at Nightmare Moon, “Nightmare, are you all right?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy, “Fluttershy, I ...” but she didn’t have time to speak because Twilight was looking at Nightmare with a menacing look. The look seemed to say, “If you tell, you will see”
Nightmare Moon blew out a breath before looking left, “nothing”
Fluttershy didn’t seem to accept, “Come on, Nightmare. You can tell me. If you want we can talk privately. No Twilight around. I guarantee”
Twilight Sparkle looked at Fluttershy with concern and possible fear. Nightmare Moon noticed the fear in Twilight and she didn’t know if it was right, but she decided to use it to her advantage, “ok, Fluttershy. We will”
Fluttershy smiled before looking at Twilight, “Twilight, wait here, okay? That if it’s not too bothersome”
Twilight Sparkle was now sweating with nerves, she wanted to be honest but at the same time And she didn’t want to. And now?
Twilight didn’t know what to say. She feared that what Nightmare Moon wanted to talk about was her not accepting Nightmare as a friend. She wanted to be honest and say, “ok. I wait here”. But at the same time she wanted to say, “no. I will go with you. ” Twilight Sparkle was thinking.
“So? Can you wait here?” asked Fluttershy, noticing the silence.
Twilight didn’t want to be discovered, so she made the decision. “No.”
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon were surprised. “What? Why not?”
“Because not,” answered Twilight Sparkle simply.
“But why don’t you want me and Nightmare Moon to talk privately?” asked Fluttershy in a confused way.
“Because if you guys are going to talk privately it will be the same as hiding something from me.”
“But we’ll tell you, Twilight.”
Twilight Sparkle was trying hard to keep Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon from talking in private. “I know, Fluttershy. I am relieved about this. But I can’t let you talk to Nightmare Moon in private.”
“Are you hiding something from me?” asked Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle was surprised. “What? No, never. Why do you think that?”
“You seem to be possibly afraid that Nightmare Moon and I will talk about something that has to do with you is something you might be hiding,” replied Fluttershy.
“I’m not afraid, Fluttershy,” denied Twilight Sparkle, “and I’m not hiding anything.”
“So can Nightmare and I talk privately?”
“No.”
Fluttershy didn’t understand why Twilight didn’t want Nightmare and her to talk privately. But she would respect that. “Ok, Twilight. You won”
Nightmare Moon couldn’t believe Fluttershy decided to not talk to her in private anymore. Why? Why was Twilight being so hard? “Fluttershy, I need to talk to you in private, please. Is it urgent”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon, “I’m sorry. But if Twilight doesn’t want us talking privately, we’d better respect it. ”
Nightmare Moon was sad. She couldn’t believe that Fluttershy was taken by the words of Twilight Sparkle.
“Well, I’m going to the bookstore. Bye, Fluttershy. See you later, ”said Twilight Sparkle before leaving.
Fluttershy waved a hoof before looking at Nightmare Moon and realizing that Nightmare was without her armor, “Nightmare? Where is your armor?”
“I don’t know, Fluttershy. When I woke up, the armor wasn’t in the room. Could you help me find her?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy smiled. “Of course, Nightmare”
When Twilight Sparkle arrived at the bookstore, she picked up a book to read. Twilight Sparkle was relieved that she managed to keep Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy from talking privately. She just didn’t know if Nightmare Moon intended to talk to Fluttershy about the fact that Twilight was acting like she didn’t like her or that her armor was gone. Whatever the reason, Twilight was relieved that she prevented it. She took a book from a shelf to read.
“What was the last place you saw, Nightmare?” asked Fluttershy.
“When I went to sleep I left it on the coffee table, but when I woke up it was no longer there,” replied Nightmare Moon. “It’s as if somepony had entered the room while I was sleeping to steal and then hide somewhere.”
“Don’t worry, Nightmare. We will find it. I swear, ”said Fluttershy with a smile.
Nightmare Moon smiled at Fluttershy’s words. Nightmare Moon didn’t know why but she was feeling that it had a Twilight hoove involved in the disappearance of her armor.
“Where should we look first, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“I’ll search the room and you could search the bedroom,” Fluttershy replied. “If that’s okay with you ...”
“I’m going over there now, Fluttershy,” Nightmare Moon went up the stairs and up.
Fluttershy watched Nightmare Moon climb the stairs before she began searching around. But she saw no sign of the armor around. But she was still going to search the room. She first looked on the couch and behind the furniture hoping the armor was. But it wasn’t there. Fluttershy was sad and sat down to look around to decide where to look. Suddenly, Fluttershy heard footsteps and saw Nightmare Moon coming down the stairs, her ears were down and she had a sad expression.
“Did you find your armor up there, Nightmare?” asked Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon stopped walking. “No, Fluttershy. You found?”
“Not yet,” Fluttershy replied. “But I’m starting to believe that it isn’t in the room because I can’t see it.”
“Well, if you think you’re not in the room, why don’t we see it in the kitchen?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy grinned and got up from the couch. “Yeah. I think it’s a good idea.”
Nightmare Moon led the way to the kitchen and looked around. It wasn’t in the kitchen. She saw a wooden cabinet and went to him to open it and was surprised to see it inside: her armor.
Suddenly, Fluttershy was grabbed and was taken to Nightmare Moon, who was smiling. “Thank you so much, dear Fluttershy! I’m glad you helped me! ”
Fluttershy realized that Nightmare Moon was hugging her. Fluttershy smiled. “You’re welcome, Nightmare Moon.”
As night was coming and the sun was setting, Twilight Sparkle came out of the library and headed for Fluttershy’s cabin. Twilight Sparkle began to wonder if Nightmare Moon found the armor, she hoped not. But Twilight Sparkle intended to ask if they found the armor. But one thing she knew: Twilight Sparkle couldn’t show anger or happiness if they didn’t find it, because it would be suspicious.
While Fluttershy had dinner, Nightmare Moon watched her friend with a smile, but she was happier to have found her armor. Without her armor, she felt naked. But she never had the heart to tell Fluttershy that because it would be embarrassing. Nightmare Moon heard the sound of the door opening and closing, she looked back and saw Twilight Sparkle.
The unicorn was a little surprised to see Nightmare Moon in armor, but was soon annoyed. Twilight Sparkle walked to the table to wait for dinner. She was looking to the side.
Nightmare Moon noticed Twilight’s mood swings and decided to say, “Twilight, I got my armor back.”
Twilight Sparkle replied, “Good for you.”
“Twilight, I know it was you who hid my armor,” said Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle now looked at Nightmare Moon. “I didn’t hide your armor. Why do you suspect me so much?”
“You always get cranky and say I’m your enemy,” Nightmare Moon replied. “Don’t you think you should stop seeing me as evil and accept being my friend?”
“Never!” Twilight Sparkle shouted, now with both front hooves on the table. “And no use pretending to be nice. You may have managed to hypnotize Fluttershy, but you won’t hypnotize me.”
“I already said. I would never do that with Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon. “She is my friend.”
“Why don’t you surrender, Nightmare Moon?” Twilight Sparkle asked, already starting to get angrier with her enemy. “You were already discovered by me.”
“I already surrendered, Twilight,” Nightmare Moon replied. “Since you and your friends defeated me, I’ve been thinking about my actions. And I regretted it a lot. So I decided to go to your friends and you to make friends.”
“You’re lying. I know that,” said Twilight Sparkle. “You’re fine being good for everypony to be by your side so we can’t use the Elements of Harmony on you.”
“I’m not pretending to be good, Twilight,” Nightmare Moon said. “I’m good already.”
“That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard!” shouted Twilight Sparkle. “You’re mean and always will be mean!”
“That’s not true, Twilight.”
Twilight Sparkle and Nightmare Moon were surprised to hear Fluttershy’s voice behind them. They slowly turned back and saw Fluttershy looking at Twilight in an unhappy way. While Nightmare Moon had a smile on her face, Twilight Sparkle had an expression of fear.
“Nightmare Moon has changed a lot, Twilight. She cares about me, just as she cares about the animals that live in my cottage,” said Fluttershy. “I heard everything you said about her.”
“No, Fluttershy!” shouted Twilight Sparkle in fear. “I wasn’t talking bad about her! You heard it badly!”
“No, Twilight. While I was cooking, I could hear your conversation with Nightmare Moon.”
Fluttershy managed to shut up Twilight Sparkle. The unicorn looked at the guilty ground, her eyes were closed and her ears down.
“Now, apologize,” Fluttershy said. “If that’s okay with you ...”
Twilight Sparkle looked at Nightmare Moon. To her surprise, Alicorn was smiling at her. But why should she apologize? She was right. Twilight Sparkle got up.
“I’m not mesmerized, Twilight,” said Fluttershy. “Where did this idea come from?”
“She’s mean, Fluttershy,” Twilight Sparkle replied. “Why do you see her that she has changed?”
“Because when I explained why I cringed when I saw her, I said that she scared me. Then she cried, Twilight. You don’t see that Nightmare Moon just wants to be loved.”
“She could have pretended being sad, Fluttershy, ”Twilight Sparkle said. “Don’t you realize how much of a bad thing she did?”
“Yes, Twilight. I realize, ”answered Fluttershy. “But I forgave her.”
Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of anger. “Why are you supporting a villain, Fluttershy? She is using you so that the Elements of Harmony will not work on her.”
“First, she’s not a villain, Twilight,” Fluttershy replied. “Second, she likes me. And third, I don’t mean to be rude, but if you feel uncomfortable, why don’t you go back to the Golden Oka’s Tree Library?”
Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of anger. “Ok. I’m leaving. I see that my plan to stay with you isn’t working. And one more thing Nightmare Moon, when you least expect it, I’ll call Princess Celestia and we’ll see what she’ll think of seeing you.”
Nightmare Moon was startled to hear the name “Celestia”. Twilight Sparkle left the room, went to the door and left, but closed the door on the way out. Nightmare Moon heard the sound of crying. She looked down and saw that Fluttershy was crying. Nightmare Moon hugged Fluttershy with a wing. She didn’t like to see Fluttershy cry.
“Please don’t cry, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon.
“It’s my fault, Nightmare Moon,” said Fluttershy.
“No, Fluttershy. It’s not your fault.”
“It’s my fault, yes. If I hadn’t strange her before, you wouldn’t be almost suffering from Bullying from my best friend Twilight, ”said Fluttershy.
“Don’t blame yourself, Fluttershy,” Nightmare Moon said. “It’s not your fault.”
Fluttershy was still sad, had tears in her eyes. “Do you still like me, even though I didn’t realize that Twilight didn’t intend to spend time with us but just to make me believe you were mean?”
“Of course I still like you, Fluttershy,” Nightmare Moon replied. “Because after all, you’re the first pony who offered to be my friend.”
Fluttershy felt Nightmare Moon’s hoof wipe the tears from her eyes before she was hugged. The pegasus managed to smile and hugged back.
Hearth’s Warming Eve arrived in equestria. All the ponies were wearing winter clothes. The ponies came out of a gift shop with bags in their mouths. Those who didn’t buy presents and who weren’t in stores were taking a walk on the road. The pony has already gotten used to Nightmare Moon. So they weren’t even afraid anymore. Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon were decorating the house with decorations. Fluttershy decorated the tree and Nightmare Moon would put a garland on the door. The alicorn examined the garland placed before entering the cottage.
“I already hung the garland on the door, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon with a gentle smile. “Oh. How nice. Thank you for helping me.”
Nightmare Moon, smiling, went to Fluttershy. “You’re welcome, Fluttershy.”
Nightmare Moon realized that Fluttershy was holding a star in the hooves. “Want help putting the star on the tree?”
Fluttershy looked uncertain. “Um ... If you want to ...”
Nightmare Moon took the star with her magic and placed it on top of the tree. She looked at the tree before looking at Fluttershy.
“And now, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon. “What we do now?”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon. “Well, we need to buy the food for Hearth’s Warming Eve tonight. I mean, if you want to go with me…”
“Fluttershy, today is a special date,” said Nightmare Moon. “And I intend to spend all day with you.”
Fluttershy didn’t know why, but it made her blush. “Really?”
“Really, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon with a smile before kissing Fluttershy’s cheek.
Fluttershy didn’t know why she was still flushed. Was that normal?
“Well, should we go to Ponyville now, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon, now with her back turned as she looked at Fluttershy.
“W-wait,” said Fluttershy. “Let’s put some clothes on so we don’t get cold.”
“Is it really necessary, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“It’s very cold today, Nightmare,” said Fluttershy. “And also because…. Because…”
Nightmare Moon realized that Fluttershy flinched nervously. “... I don’t want you to be cold.”
Nightmare Moon didn’t listen right. “What?”
“I don’t want you to be cold!” shouted Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon was startled by the scream, but soon recovered. “I don’t want you cold either, Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy took a few steps back. “So ... Would you like to go upstairs to pick your cold suit?”
Nightmare Moon smiled. “Of course, Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy started up the stairs and Nightmare Moon followed her. The alicorn began to wonder if Fluttershy had only a cold suit. But if Fluttershy had only a cold suit, she wouldn’t be annoyed.
The pegasus opened her bedroom door and went to the closet. Inside the closet was a sweatshirt and two scarves. One scarf was light blue and one pink. Fluttershy took her coat and put it on. Fluttershy took the pink scarf and Nightmare Moon the light blue scarf. They looked at each other in the mirror before going back downstairs.
Fluttershy headed for the door to open until Nightmare Moon said, “Aren’t you going to take your backpack?”
Fluttershy looked back. “Ah. Yes. I’m sorry. I forgot.”
Nightmare Moon smiled. “No need to apologize.”
Nightmare saw the backpack on the couch and looked back at Fluttershy. “Want me to get you your backpack, Fluttershy?”
“If you want to…”
Nightmare Moon took the backpack from the couch and handed it to Fluttershy with a smile. “Here it is.”
Fluttershy grinned and slung her pack over before they left and the pegasus closed the door.
While walking Fluttershy decided to talk. “So how are you feeling lately?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy. “I am feeling happy. Because Twilight is no longer around.”
Fluttershy smiled at the answer. But despite that, she couldn’t help noticing that Nightmare Moon was happier than before and showed affection for the pegasus, not as a friend’s, but a marefriend’s. Fluttershy began to wonder if Nightmare Moon liked her more than as a friend. But she didn’t want to jump to conclusions, so she didn’t even ask about it.
“What are we going to eat tonight, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy came out of her thoughts and looked at Nightmare Moon. “Risotto.”
When they arrived in Ponyville, they went to the market. Since it was Hearth’s Warming Eve, the selling ponies were selling food that was eaten on this special day. When the ponies saw Nightmare Moon, they just smiled. Nightmare Moon was glad no one else was afraid of her. All Twilight’s friends were now her friend, the only ones not yet her friends were Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle. The two mares still suspected Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon intended to spend time with Rainbow Dash so that the pegasus would trust that she was no longer that mean mare before. Nightmare Moon just wasn’t going to spend the day today with Rainbow Dash because she knew that the blue pegasus would also be decorating the house and also because she would spend the whole day with Fluttershy.
Nightmare Moon has just realized something important. “Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon. “Yes?”
“We have to buy gifts to give each other,” replied Nightmare Moon.
“Oh my goddess. You’re right, ”said Fluttershy, now worried. “And now?”
“Why don’t we buy food first,” Nightmare Moon replied, “and later we split up to buy a gift for each of us?”
Fluttershy smiled kindly. “It’s a good idea.”
What the two mares didn’t know was that Twilight Sparkle had been spying on them since they were tidying up for Hearth’s Warming Eve night. Twilight had an unhappy look. She could feel nothing but anger as she saw Nightmare Moon kissing Fluttershy’s cheek. Twilight just wasn’t going to call Celestia yet because she knew the princess would be busy also celebrating this special day with Luna.
Twilight Sparkle realized she was well away from Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon. She walked slowly to two, hoping they wouldn’t see her.
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon went to the fair that sold rice. Twilight Sparkle was hiding behind an empty tent to spy on them. Lucky, no one saw the unicorn.
Fluttershy took a bag of risotto with its hooves. “I’ll take this one.”
“It’s five bits, miss,” said the stallion.
Fluttershy took out of his five-bit backpack and handed it to the stallion before leaving with the risotto bag. Nightmare Moon was looking at Fluttershy with a smile.
Nightmare Moon opened the cottage door with her magic as she watched Fluttershy go into the kitchen to store the risotto in the wooden cabinet.
Nightmare Moon went to the pegasus. “And now? What we do?”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon shyly. “W-well, I’ve already fed all the animals, so at the moment I have nothing to do.”
Nightmare Moon had an idea. “How about if we go for a walk?”
“That’s a great idea,” said Fluttershy. “But where to?”
“How about we take a walk around Ponyville?” Asked Nightmare Moon. “And we could have fun in the snow too.”
“Of course, Nightmare Moon,” said Fluttershy.
Twilight Sparkle watched Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon leave the house for the second time. She knew Fluttershy wasn’t to blame because she was “mesmerized.” The problem is, she had no idea how to get Fluttershy out of hypnosis. But that didn’t mean she would give up. She would find a way for Fluttershy to be by her side again.
In the park, foals threw snowballs at each other’s faces as they ran while stallions and mares just watched their sons and daughters play. In the background, Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy went to a bench to sit down. Nightmare Moon realized that the bank was covered in snow and used its magic to clear the snow. When the bench ran out of snow, the two sat to watch around the park. The wind shook their scarves. Fluttershy watched the ponies while Nightmare Moon looked at her pegasus best friend with a smile. Fluttershy has done a lot for her: She offered to be her friend, was kind to her, didn’t feel bothered by the alicorn’s presence and defended her when Twilight said Nightmare was evil and comforted her when she was sad. She was proud to call Fluttershy her friend. But she didn’t know if she was considered a friend if the pony began to show feelings of affection for her friend. Was that considered friendship or something else?
“Nightmare? Is everything okay?” asked Fluttershy.
“Yes, Fluttershy,” replied Nightmare Moon. “I was just thinking about my feelings.”
Fluttershy smiled sweetly. “Would you like to tell me how you feel?”
Nightmare Moon wasn’t sure. “I don’t think so, Fluttershy.”
“Come on, Nightmare,” said Fluttershy. “Remember what I told you before? You can tell me how you feel.”
“I know, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon. “But you promise to not find it strange?”
“I promise.”
“It’s that from this year ... I don’t know what that feeling is ... But I think I started to show affection that a friend might not show ...”
Fluttershy discovered what Nightmare Moon felt.
“.... Fluttershy, what’s wrong with me?” asked Nightmare Moon, now almost crying.
Fluttershy hugged Nightmare Moon with her hooves. “Don’t cry and don’t blame yourself, Nightmare. There’s nothing wrong with you.”
Nightmare Moon felt her tears welling up in her eyes. “So what do I have? Why whenever when i’m near of you i feel a great love? Is it normal for a friend to feel that?”
Fluttershy wiped Nightmare Moon’s tears with a hoof. “Please, don’t cry. I know what you are feeling.”
“So what do I have, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy blushed now. “Y-you’re… in love with me.”
Nightmare Moon was surprised and she could have sworn it blushed. “W-what?”
“You’re in love with me, Nightmare,” Fluttershy repeated the answer.
“But what is falling in love, Fluttershy?” asked Nightmare Moon.
“It means liking somepony more than a friend,” Fluttershy replied. “It means having a special affection for the pony.”
“But I’ve never been in a relationship before, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon.
“I know somepony who understands this.” Fluttershy got up from the bench and started walking, and Nightmare Moon followed her.
Rarity was making an outfit for her to wear until she heard a knock on the door. Rarity stopped what she was doing and went to the door to answer it.
“Fluttershy. Nightmare Moon,” said Rarity with a smile. “Do you two need some fabulous clothes?”
“Er ... n-no, Rarity,” replied Fluttershy. “But we came here for you to explain to Nightmare Moon what it means to be in a relationship and how it works.”
“Of course Rarity will explain for Nightmare Moon about relationships,” said Rarity. “Come in, darlings.”
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon entered the Boutique. Nightmare Moon never got a chance to see what Rarity’s house looked like because the unicorn had passed out in the first time she saw her.
“What were you doing before we came here, Rarity?” asked Fluttershy.
“I was making an outfit for that special day, dear,” Rarity replied. “Well, would you like to come to my room to talk?”
“Of course, Rarity,” replied Fluttershy with a sweet smile. Nightmare Moon just smiled in response.
Rarity started up the stairs to her bedroom and waited for Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon to arrive.
“Come on, darlings.” Rarity entered the room. Upon entering, Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy arrived.
Nightmare Moon examined the room and it was beautiful.
“Darlings, how about we sit on my bed?” Rarity sat on the bed and waited for Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon to sit.
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon sat on the bed while looking at Rarity.
Nightmare Moon looked at Rarity. “So, Rarity. Could you explain to me what a relationship is?”
“Of course, dear,” Rarity coughed a little before she started. “Being in relationship means being together with the pony you love, being loyal to the beloved pony, never cheating on him with another pony, and always being by the pony’s side and supporting you through difficult times.”
Nightmare Moon smiled. “Until being in a relationship is easy, Rarity.”
Rarity smiled brightly. “Yes, dear. At first it seems difficult, but in reality it can be quite easy if you have a lot of knowledge.”
Nightmare Moon then began to think before saying, “So what I feel isn’t what a friend feels for another friend?”
“Unfortunately not, darling,” answered Rarity. “But if you want, I can help you win Fluttershy’s heart.”
Nightmare Moon and blushed. “Rarity!”
“Okay, dear. I’ll stop talking about it,” said Rarity.
Fluttershy was speechless with what Rarity said about Nightmare Moon winning her heart, but since Rarity was able to help, she thought they could go now. “If it’s not too much trouble, Nightmare Moon and I will be leaving…”
“Of course dear. Have a good Hearth’s Warming Eve!”
Fluttershy left the room with Nightmare Moon and walked to the front door.
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy. “And now? What we do?”
“W-Well, it’s not lunch time yet, so I think we can stay in the park. That’s if you want it and it’s not too much trouble… ”
“It won’t be any trouble for me, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon with a smile.
Although Nightmare Moon was still surprised that she loved Fluttershy more than as a friend, she would try to find a way to conquer the pegasus. But she had no idea how.
When they arrived at the park, Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon intended to sit on the bench, but unfortunately was occupied by a greenish-colored unicorn mare with a harp Cutie Mark and a yellow-colored terrestrial pony mare and three-prong Cutie Mark. The two mare were wearing a scarf that put them together as they kissed.
“Oh my…” was all Fluttershy could say when she saw this scene.
Nightmare Moon looked back at Fluttershy. “How about if we played in the snow?”
Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon shyly. “If you want to…”
Nightmare Moon took some of the snow with her magic, made a ball and threw it on Fluttershy’s cheek with a smile on her face. Fluttershy felt the snowball and looked at Nightmare Moon and saw her best friend’s smile. She took a snowball with its hooves before throwing in the face of Nightmare Moon.
Twilight Sparkle watched behind a bench as they played snowball war with an unhappy look. She had followed Nightmare Moon and Fluttershy to Rarity Boutique and she wasn’t happy. Because Fluttershy wasn’t only being ‘hypnotized’, now the pegasus would become ‘slave’ to Nightmare Moon. Twilight knew she should do something, but she was afraid they would ask if they were being spied on.
“Twilight.”
Twilight Sparkle looked back and saw Spike. “Spike! What are you doing here?” she whispered.
“I came to call you for lunch, Twilight,” replied Spike.
“But how did you know I was here?” asked Twilight Sparkle.
“I searched for you all over Ponyville,” replied Spike. “What are you doing?”
“I’m spying on them,” replied Twilight Sparkle.
“They who?”
“Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon.”
“Why are you spying on them?” asked Spike.
“Nightmare Moon has made Fluttershy mesmerized,” said Twilight Sparkle, “and now she intend to make my best friend your slave.”
“But Fluttershy told you at the picnic she’s good, Twilight,” said Spike, now confused.
“Spike, she’s mesmerized. It’s not her fault for saying that,” said Twilight Sparkle. “It’s Nightmare Moon’s fault making Fluttershy say all this.”
“But what if Fluttershy is right?”
“Spike!”
“OK. You may be right, but I think Fluttershy is right,” said Spike, “and you’re very paranoid about their friendship.”
“Spike, are you on Nightmare Moon’s side?!” asked Twilight Sparkle almost in a panic.
Spike thought before answering. “Perhaps?”
“Spike did you happen to forget what Nightmare Moon did?” asked Twilight Sparkle. “She wanted to defeat the princess to bring eternal night and then rule Equestria.”
“Twilight, Nightmare Moon has already surrendered and become good,” said Spike. “Fluttershy made sure of that.”
“But I don’t understand how she returned, Spike,” said Twilight Sparkle. “The Elements of Harmony should have destroyed her.”
“Maybe it’s because Nightmare Moon is a pony too,” said Spike, “and also maybe because the Elements of Harmony gave her a chance to think about her actions.”
“But what if she’s just faking it, Spike?” asked Twilight Sparkle.
“Twilight, I already told you: Fluttershy made sure she’s good,” replied Spike.
“Spike, she’s mesmerized,” said Twilight Sparkle. “And you can say anything to convince me because you won’t make it.”
Spike sighed. Spike hoped Twilight Sparkle would believe her, but he would respect that.
“Will you at least go to the library for lunch, Twilight?” asked Spike.
“Yes, Spike.”
Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon were having a great time in the snow. Her cheeks were snowed. Nightmare Moon, with a smile, brushed the snow off her face and looked at Fluttershy. She realized there was some snow on Fluttershy’s coat and face. Nightmare Moon got up and went to Fluttershy to wipe the pegasus’s face with a hoof.
Fluttershy smiled at the Nightmare Moon act. “Thank you, Nightmare.”
“You’re welcome, Fluttershy,” said Nightmare Moon.
“Well, we better go home for lunch.” Fluttershy stood up. Nightmare Moon did the same.
While Fluttershy made the risotto, Nightmare Moon thought of what she should give Fluttershy. But she was out of ideas. She wanted to give Fluttershy something to remember. Maybe Nightmare Moon should search a library, but she hoped Twilight Sparkle wasn’t there. Nightmare Moon heard wings flutter and saw Fluttershy with a pan, inside had risotto. Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon served themselves to eat.
“So Fluttershy, what do you like best?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy swallowed a piece of risotto before answering. “I like animals fruits and vegetables. Why?”
“I just want your gift to be good,” replied Nightmare Moon, “and you enjoy it.”
Fluttershy smiled sweetly at the answer.
After they had finished eating, Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon went out to buy each other a gift. Nightmare Moon intended to go to the Library first to read about Hearth’s Warming Eve traditions, since this was her first time before buying a gift.
Upon entering the library, the ponies didn’t notice the arrival of Nightmare Moon because some were reading and others choosing a book to read. Since Nightmare Moon had previously explored this library, it would now be much easier for her not to get lost.
It took about five minutes, but Nightmare Moon managed to find the book she was looking for and sat in a chair to read. Beside her, was a purple-colored unicorn mare with a cutie mark of a green diamond reading a yellow book. Nightmare Moon opened the book to read.
Hearth’s Warming Eve is a special date where ponies spend the night together with the ones they love. But, there are some traditions that many ponies make:
Invite their families to spend Hearth’s Warming Eve together;
Kiss the beloved pony under a mistletoe;
Cooking gingerbread cookies.
Sing songs with the theme of Hearth’s Warming Eve;
Decorate the house;
Decorate the tree.
To Nightmare Moon’s surprise there were only six traditions. But what caught her most was, “Kissing the beloved pony under a mistletoe.” Nightmare Moon had never done this before and she couldn’t deny that it made her happy. She even comes up with an idea. She could kiss Fluttershy under a mistletoe and confess that she loves Fluttershy more than as a friend. She just hoped Fluttershy would agree to be her marefriend.
When night came, Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon returned home. Fluttershy held a gift in her mouth and Nightmare Moon nothing. Fluttershy placed the gift under the tree and realized that Nightmare Moon had no present.
“Nightmare where’s the gift?” asked Fluttershy.
“Well, I had another gift idea to give you, Fluttershy,” replied Nightmare Moon with a smile.
“If it’s okay with you, would you like to tell me?” asked Fluttershy shyly.
“Sorry, Fluttershy. But it’s a surprise,” replied Nightmare Moon.
“Oh. Ok,” said Fluttershy. “Well, I’m going to make the food for supper. Feel free to explore the house if you get bored.”
Fluttershy went to the kitchen. Nightmare Moon watched the pegasus with a smile. She couldn’t wait to kiss Fluttershy under the mistletoe. But while this wasn’t happening, she intended to stand on the balcony watching the night sky.
Arriving on the balcony, Nightmare Moon wondered how things got better for her. The ponies were no longer afraid of her and almost everypony liked her. It made her happy because she was no longer a threat to the ponies. But she was still worried about Twilight Sparkle calling Celestia. She was beginning to imagine the scenario: Twilight calls Celestia, Celestia gets mad at Nightmare Moon because she is guilty of manipulating Luna. She already imagined that Celestia would destroy her public. Everypony would be looking at her with a satisfying look. She knew Fluttershy would try to stop it, but it would do no good. She started to cry.
“Nightmare! The food is on the table!”
Nightmare Moon, still with tears in her eyes, left the balcony. She didn’t want Fluttershy to see her cry, but she was worried about what would happen to her.
Fluttershy waited for Nightmare Moon until he saw her. But to her surprise, Nightmare Moon was crying.
“Nightmare, what happened?” asked Fluttershy worriedly.
“I’m worried and nervous about what might happen to me if Twilight calls Celestia,” replied Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy went to Nightmare Moon. “Nightmare, in case Celestia really comes, i’m sure she won’t destroy you.”
“How can you be sure?” asked Nightmare Moon. “I was guilty of driving Luna away from Celestia.”
“Please don’t blame yourself,” said Fluttershy.
“And why shouldn’t I?” asked Nightmare Moon. “I was evil in the past.”
“Please stop blaming yourself and think about the past,” said Fluttershy. “We all make mistakes once in a lifetime. And you weren’t evil. You just made a mistake.”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy. “So what did I do there was justification?”
“I believe so, Nightmare,” Fluttershy replied with a smile. “Can you think of why you became evil?”
Nightmare Moon thought before letting out a breath. “I was born of negative feelings from Luna. Since Luna began to feel that no one loved her night, I have appeared to comfort her.”
“That was very nice of you, Nightmare,” said Fluttershy.
“Thanks. In the beginning, my job in the beginning was just to help and make her feel better. But as time went on, I started to hate Celestia because she didn’t realize what Luna felt. So I started telling Luna that Celestia was more concerned with her subjects than her.”
“Oh my…”
“As I said that to Luna, I started to like it because I thought I was doing the right thing. I offered to take control of her body so I could destroy Celestia and I could rule Equestria for everlasting night so the ponies could enjoy Luna’s night.”
Fluttershy was speechless. She never imagined that. So that means that Nightmare Moon was just wanting to help Luna? She looked at Nightmare Moon and saw the alicorn crying on the floor.
“Please don’t hate me or judge me!” shouted Nightmare Moon through her tears. “I know it wasn’t right to act like a villain, but it’s because I thought this would be the only way the ponies loved the night!”
Fluttershy couldn’t take Nightmare Moon crying and hugged her. Nightmare Moon stopped crying, but she still had tears in her eyes and her cheeks were wet.
“Please don’t blame yourself for a mistake,” asked Fluttershy, already sad. “Do you remember what I told you a year ago?”
A silence occurred…
“I told you that I forgave you and that I no longer see you as evil.”
“I thought you were going to change your mind…”
“I wouldn’t change how I feel about you,” said Fluttershy, before smiling kindly. “I love you.”
Fluttershy wiped her tears with a hoof before gently kissing Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon was surprised, but soon kissed back.
When the kiss ended, Fluttershy and Nightmare Moon blushed.
After they had finished eating, Fluttershy went to the tree to pick up the gift. Nightmare Moon just approached Fluttershy as she watched her.
Fluttershy took the gift, handed it to Nightmare Moon with a shy smile. “H-here it is. I hope you enjoy.”
Nightmare Moon took the gift with her magic to open it. She let out a sigh of surprise at what she saw.
“Did you like it?” asked Fluttershy with a sweet and hopeful smile at the same time.
Nightmare Moon took a plush Fluttershy from the gift box. Her look of surprise didn’t leave.
Fluttershy’s smile did fall. “D-didn’t you like it?”
Nightmare Moon looked at Fluttershy with a smile. “I love it!” she grabbed Fluttershy with her magic to hug her.
Fluttershy was surprised, but then smiled and hugged back.
When the hug ended Fluttershy looked at Nightmare Moon. “Hm… D-did you get a gift for me? If you didn’t, I’m not mad at you, but if you did, I’m happy. B-but that doesn’t mean you have to give presents to please me and… ”
“Fluttershy, I get it,” said Nightmare Moon with a smile.
“Oh. Okay, ”said Fluttershy, now with a pink cheek. “So where is my gift?”
Nightmare Moon made a mistletoe appear on them with its magic before kissing Fluttershy. Fluttershy was surprised and blushed before returning the kiss.
When it was over, Nightmare Moon decided to ask. “So? Did you enjoy being kissed on top of a mistletoe?”
Fluttershy blushed while smiling sweetly. “Y-yes.”
“I knew you would like it,” said Nightmare Moon with a smile. “And I have a confession to make.”
Fluttershy was surprised. “A-a confession?”
“Yes, Fluttershy. From the moment we became friends, I couldn’t deny that I enjoyed spending every moment with you,” said Nightmare Moon. “You were always for me, by my side. And that made me feel loved.”
Fluttershy has already begun to imagine where this would go.
“Fluttershy, would you like to be my marefriend?” asked Nightmare Moon.
Fluttershy smiled. “Yes. I accept.”
Nightmare Moon smiled with relief. “Would you like to watch the night sky with me before we go to sleep?”
“Of course, Nightmare. But first I’ll do the dishes, ”said Fluttershy. “If that’s okay with you ...”
“No problem, Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy took the plates and forks to the kitchen. Fluttershy really wasn’t believing that she kissed Nightmare Moon and that she kissed for the first time. But Fluttershy knew that tonight she would never forget, because she kissed that night and also because she was now the marefriend of Nightmare Moon. Everything was going so well. What could go wrong?
