Equestria is falling to the Darkness, will the lavender mare and her friends save the day?
Equestria gets attacked by dangerous creatures known as the "Heartless". How will our heroes deal with the unseen before danger? Will all of Equestria be lost?
Don't go too hard on me on this one. It's my first fic (and hopefully good enough) Be sure to give me some feedback
It was a simple morning in all of Equestria, it didn’t seem to be any different from the regular days. The birds were singing outside as usual, the sun was shining through the cloudless sky, filling ponyville with sunlight. Ponies were leading their everyday life, and foals were playing outside. Twilight and her friends didn’t have to watch over the school this month, since it was the summer break, so they decided to meet at Twilight’s castle and do some stuff together, like the old times. They rarely had the ocasion to nowadays.
“Howdy Twilight! So, what have you got in plans for us?” - Applejack asked Twilight as soon as she entered the room with the rest of her friends.
“Hello everypony, thanks for coming by. It was some time since we all just hang out, wasn’t it?”
“Certainly it was darling, we were quite busy with saving Equestria and taking care of the school recently. It feels good to take a little break from all of this mess.” - Rarity replied to Twilight’s question.
“I wanted go star gazing, you know, like we did some time ago, on the top of that hill near the forest.”
“That’s a splendid idea dear!”
“Yay, If it’s not a problem, I will bring my animal friend with me...” - Fluttershy shyly joins the conversation.
“Yeah, it’s been some time since we could just chill.” - Rainbow Dash cuts in.
“We’re going to set off 8 ‘o clock, be sure to bring everything you need with you, it’s going to be lots of fun!”
“Eeeeeeee I’m SOO excited! Are you excited too?!”
“Yeah, it’ll be fun Pinkie, see ya in an hour Twilight!” - Rainbow Dash said enthusiastically as they were heading towards the castle doors.
And so everypony went home to get things they might need for the little expedition of theirs. When everypony got back, something didn’t seem quite right. The sun dissapeared into the clouds, and the sky became dark, making everything much harder to see, especially stars.
“Twilight, I don’t wanna be a party pooper, but Ah think’ we might wanna rearrange our plans. The sun is, well... Gone for some reason, and the sky is really unclear.”
“Yeah, and it’s not even my fault this time! Me and my pegasus team cleared the sky this morning!”
“I see-” Twilight couldn’t finish her sentence.
Suddenly, the peace gets disturbed by a loud thunder strike, and what sounded to be an... Eathquake? The earth began to shake, and quickly ponyville looked like a long-time abandoned town.
“What in tarnation’s goin’ on?!” - Applejack exclaimed running to the window - “Look through the window!”
It was raining outside, it all seemed so wrong. The sky got even darker then before, the town square now seemed like a ghost town.
Mane six ran outside the castle in hurry.
“Rainbow, wasn’t it supposed to be sunny today?” - Rarity glared at Rainbow Dash furiously.
“It was! And these are not any regular clouds, it’s like there made out of some weird magic-”
“LOOK OUT!” - Twilight shouted, shooting a beam of magic into Rainbow’s direction. There was a small, black monster-like figgure with yeallow eyes behind Rainbow Dash, there looks like to be more of them nearby. Ponyville seems to be under attack!
“Warn me next time! You gave me a heart attack. What was that thing anyway!?” - Rainbow yells at Twilight
“I have absolutely no idea! I've never seen them before, a-and they weren't in any books I've read! It doesn't look like magic does much against, we need to get out of here now! Oh, Fluttershy, maybe you know something about these creatures, maybe there are just some weird animals?"
"N-No, I don't think so..."
"Okay, but where to?" - Applejack cuts in, visibly disorientated and confused. She didn't see these creatures before either, everything seemed so wrong!
"To Canterlot! We need to alarm the princesses!"
Saying that, Twilight teleported out of there. Minutes later, Ponyville was totally invaded by the black creatures with a pony in a black hood commanding them all...
When Twilight and the rest got to Canterlot, it was already too late. The whole place was overflowing with the same creatures that attacked Ponyvile and some other, white creatures with a weird, upside down heart-like symbol on their heads.
“No! How are we supposed to get in now? Shining Armor’s defences made it impossible to get inside, which means we can’t teleport, or use magic there!” - Twilight said in a doubtful tone. They began to make small steps towards the Canterlot Castle, but as soon as they did so, monsters attacked!
Out of the sudden, all creatures started to surround our heroes, making it impossible to escape, since they couldn’t use magic, and the space above them was guarded by flying versions of The Heartless.
“It’s no use! My magic doesn’t work here!”
“I can’t fly out of here either!”
“Let me try buckin’ them!” - Applejack said, while aiming with her back hooves at the enemies. She kicked The Heartless as strong as she could, but it didn’t seem like it was working.
“They’re immune to our attacks!”
Antagonistic creatures didn’t wait much longer. All of them attacked at the same time, overwhelming ponies. It seemed like there was nothing anypony could do. They were helpless, pinched by The Heartless. It almost felt like the Darkness prevailed, and Light expired...
"Is this how it all ends?" - Terrible thoughts started filling mane 6's heads.
"Do not fear the darkness, it can never have you, no matter how far you've fallen"... - a mysterious voice echoes through Twilight's head. "Your light will always be there for you... you mustn't give up... And remember, may your heart be your guiding key...
"H-huh? Who're... you?"
Unexpectedly, Twilight felt something. She still had some hope left, her heart couldn’t simply give up, she couldn't forget about her friends, she wouldn’t let go!
A beam of light emerged, tearing apart all shadows and other monsters. Everypony was surprised by what happened.
“Huh, what just happened!? And w-what’s that?” - Twilight exclaimed noticing that she holds some sort of a big key in her mouth. Turns out, it was a key shaped sword! It immediately points at the enemies.
“W-what? I'm I meant to... fight with it? It's worth a try!”
As she said it, she attacked the first monster. After a succesful attacked, Twilight noticed she had indeed destroy one enemy!
"It's working! - Twilight thought to herself - Get ready everypony, we're getting out of here!
She started to fight with the rest of the monster. It was no easy task, some of these damn monsters could hide in the ground, they looked just like shadows! Twilight decided to name them that way.
“Take that!” - Twilight yelled as she perform a devastating finisher, which defeated the rest of the surrounding enemies. *gasp, pant* - Twilight felt tired, but also reliefed that she could handle so many opponents on her own!
“Well, you sure put a show Twiligh’. But most importantly, do you know what’s that... Weird key?” - Applejack pointed her hoof at the "weird key"
“I have no idea either. It acts like a sword, and it seems to be somehow connected to my heart... No idea how that works.”
“So what you’re telling is, that weird key-shaped sword chose you? That’s. So. AWESOME!”
“I guess it means so. "May you heart be your guiding key" hmmm...”
"Where did you hear that phrase darling? It feels so... mysterious! Almost as if it is from Shadow Spade, or some other detective book!"
"When we were trapped I heard a voice in my head, that told me that "the darkness will never have me", and that "my heart is my guiding key"... But that's unimportant now! we need to get inside the castle! The princesses might need our help"
After saying that, our heroes trotted inside the Canterlot Castle.
Upon getting inside the Canterlot Castle, ponies immediately noticed something about the castle. Aside from the inside being completely dark, everything seemed so... normal. No creatures in sight.
Everything looks so normal, what's going on here ? Nothing makes sense... - Twilight thought to herself "Let's go to the throne room! Princesses might be there."
"Yeah! maybe she'll tell us something about that weird key." - Rainbow Dash was more excited about the mysterious weapon than the whole situation.
"Or at least what are those creatures... they're unlike any other animals or creatures I have seen."
"Oh yeah, and that."
Canterlot Castle has never felt so empty before. It felt so unnatural to go through the empty halls with the only thing accompanying you being the sound of the rain outside, the wind's howling through the dark corridors and complete darkness. While going through the hallway leading to the throne room ponies could hear the monsters outside the castle, it was terrifing. Even Pinkie Pie was scared by the whole situation. Normally she would just laugh it off while bouncing up and down, but not this time. They have been through many adventures before, but this one seemed to be especially scary and mysterious. Our hereous had their hearts in their throats, and the scary ambience was not helpful at all, only the castle seemed to be safe, everything else was overflowing with these black and white creatures.
Twilight was also asking herself questions like What was that voice? Why was I chosen by the key?, not knowing what to do she decided to stop thinking about that, it was only making thigs worse. The Princess shall know the answers.
Upon arriving before the throne room doors Twilight hesitated a little. It was like she knew there would be dissapointment in there.
"Hey! What's the hold up, Twi?" - Rainbow asked Twilight, wondering why hasn't she opened the door yet.
"S-sorry, It's just... nevermind."
"Then open the doors already!"
Twilight did so without answering.
The inside was empty! The throne room was just as always, the same old pillars, the same old thrones, but empty. The whole place had a strange feeling to it, like it was foretelling something terrible, something that was not understood, almost like a war in which everyone meets their doom... The sounds of rain hitting against the windows were not making anything better. The atmosphere that was building up in the room reminded Twilight of the first time she and her friends defeated Nightmare Moon. There was the same scent that could be felt here... darkness? Whatever it was, it was here too, so that indicates trouble, as if that wasn't obvious enough.
"It's empty..." Twilight said in a sad tone, she was hoping that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna would be there, even though she was prepared for the worst. "Nothing makes sense..."
"Ah' don't want to be insensitive or nothin' but to me it looks like we just wasted some time here sugarcube."
*sight* "I know... Let's search this place though, we may find some clues about princesses where-
A sudden BANG cut off the conversation. Something like sounds of a battle above the castle, magic attacks and overall destruction. It sounded like a battle between two very powerful beings.
"Oh no! That must be the princesses!" - Twilight Exclaimed, nervous that her mentor might be in some serious trouble.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" - Rainbow Dash suggested, excited that she may finally fly at more then 1/4 her actual speed"
"um... but what if it's not safe?"
"I agree with Fluttershy, we should see if the courtyard is safe first."
The courtyard was relatively safe, only a few monsters were roaming around. The sounds of a distant clash remained. The moon was full. This night trully felt like... The night of Fate.
"See? told ya it's safe!" - Rainbow chuckles as she enters the courtyard with the rest right behind her - "It's kinda nice, actually."
She was right. Despite the rain and overall darkness, it was pretty pleasant. The temperature outside was much lower than during a regular summer day, but the southwestern breeze made it perfect. But now was no time for admiring the weather, all of Equestria could be endangered.
"It should be easier this time, get ready girls!" - Twilight stands in a battle pose, ready to draw the magical key, when something stopped her.
"K e y b l a d e . . ."
The word Keyblade kept echoing through Twilight's head.
"a Key...blade? Is th- Nevermind, I'll think about this later. Now, I need to get rid of these creatures!" - Twilight thinks to herself, summoning the "keyblade" afterwords.
however when Twilight drew her key the monsters started gathering, and before anypony could do anything they formed into what seemed to be a black, swirling tornado!
"H-Huh? they didn't do that before!" - Twilight exclaims as she takes a step back. "I knew this was a bad idea!" - Fluttershy mutters as she hides her head under her wings. "We need to defeat it! Watch this!" - Rainbow says before flying straight towards the monster tornado. "Rainbow, No!" - Twilight yeels, but to no avail. Her voice could no longer reach Rainbow Dash.
Her kicks didn't work before, and so they had no results here. Before giving up, she wanted to try something else, but that was the moment the monster tornado retaliated.
First, a few monster were jumping off that tornado trying to hit her, but she easily dodged these attacks, until all of the monsters collapsed on her, it next swallowed her and restored it's previous state.
Twilight couldn't just look at her friends being swallowed by some monster-tornado-thing, she had to do something!
As she ran towards the monsters, she heard the same familiar voice echoing through her mind.
" U s e T h e K e y b l a d e . . .
She was determined to stop this thing. Not only Rainbow Dash could be hurt, but it stands in the way of them, and the Princess. Twilight was great at magic before, but the Keyblade seemed to boost her power further, or at least it felt like it. She had already memorized spells like Fire, Blizzard, or Reflect so she had the upper hand. These monsers seemed to be really sensitive to Reflect magic. The keyblade also had the power to break through the "anti magic barrier" made from Chrysalis' throne, so Twilight could even use her telekinesis.
With tears in her eyes the lavender mare rushed towards the demon tower, doing her best to dodge its attacks and to land hers as well. Whenever she knew she couldn't dodge she would cast reflect. It tired her out, but she had no other way. Every time she cast a spell. she felt like something was being drained from her, something like magical essense? She wasn't sure, but she didn't care as well. With her telekinesis she would swing the keyblade at individual monsters, she believe that this was the way to destroy it.
She had no idea how much time will pass until she won't be able to fight, but she knew it will be soon. Twilight felt so weak, almost like a regular, untalented unicorn. She couldn't understand it, but she had no time to really think about this either.
The creature started to land more hits on Twilight, but she just couldn't give up, she knew had her friends by her side. She knew she had to win this fight, or otherwise this night will become... The Night of Tragedy.
After realising what's at stake, Twi regained some of her lost strength and started casting more spells, some of them even became stronger in the process, that's how she learnt grand magic. But it wasn't that kind of magic that got her through this fight. The real that saved her, was the magic of friendship. This time it wasn't the elements of harmony that connected, this time, their hearts did.
After gaining that knowledge, Twi knew how to end this battle.
"My friends are my power, and I'm theirs! " - With the power of their hearts, Twilight was able to charge a powerful spell, which made the dark tornado shake, and then break apart, which afterwards disappeared.
Rainbow was laying unconscious, covered in black powder, wielding slightly darker colors of blue.
The biggest worry is yet to come, because the distant sounds of a duel have stopped and the moon felt slightly different, but maybe it was just the clouds...
