Since God knows when I have struggled making friends, although I knew how friendships worked to an extent. I didn't know why, but I could never make a single friend.

I was walking home one day, listening to my music player. I had just been on a walk around the neighborhood.
As I slowly walked home, I felt a strong tug on my shoulder. Wondering who it was, I turned around. But there was no one behind me. "Hello?" I said. "Anyone there?" No response. 'What did you expect Gavin?' I thought as I turned back and continued to walk home. 'There was no one behind you, and you asked if anyone was there. Well that was smart.'

Suddenly, the tugging continued, even stronger this time. I quickly reached an arm out behind me to stop whoever was pulling me, but again nothing was there. Some unknown force was pulling me back!! I flailed my arms around as I tried to run away, but it was hopeless. I was being tugged too quickly and too hard for me to move forward.

As I was being pulled to who knows where, I frantically tried to grab anything within reach. The grass, rocks, bushes, flowers. I didn't care! Finally, I was able to grab onto the fence post. However, the tugging became even stronger, and the wind started picking up.

Soon, I was barely holding onto the post with my hands. Suddenly, it shifted, causing my grip to loosen!

"Crap!" I shouted.

As I flew back, I hit my head on a tree, which stopped me in my tracks. As I put a hand on the back of my head, I said, "I'm definitely gonna be feeling that for a while." The wind started picking up more, and I looked up to see what was going on, despite my sore head. I watched with horror as the fence post started shaking in the wind.

"Oh......shit!!" I shouted.

Next thing I knew, I saw it fly right at me, and all I could see was darkness.

Waking up to a new world-part 1

The sound of birds chirping pulled Gavin from his unconscious state. He groggily sat up and opened his eyes, rubbing the sleep out of them.

"What...what happened?" He said, standing up as he did so.

He looked around to see where he was, and was in for quite a shock.

He was in a forest!!

"What the HECK!!!" He shouted, looking at the forest that surrounded him. "I don't remember falling asleep in a forest!!"

Suddenly, the memories of what had happened earlier came flooding back to him, and his eyes widened.

"Oh my God!! I was knocked out!" he shouted in realization.

He quickly checked his pockets, hoping he hadn't been mugged. To his relief, he still had his wallet and his music player. At least he could listen to his music while trying to find his way out of this forest.

He sighed. "How long was I out?" he asked himself, not sure when he had been knocked out.

Gavin looked back up to see what the time was based on the sun's position. Based on it's position, it was about 4 in the afternoon.

"I've been out for 6 hours?!!" he shouted in disbelief. "Who knew a fence post could do that to me?!!"

He touched his head where the post had hit him gingerly, but didn't find anything to show that he had even been hit by the post.

"Well, I better figure out where the heck I am," he said wisely, "Cause I don't recognize this forest at all."

Deciding to have a lay of the land, he walked over to one of the trees, and began to climb it. As he climbed, he remembered with a smile how he used to climb trees when he was little.

'Ahh, good times. Good times.'

Soon, he reached the top of the tree, and he looked around, squinting as he tried to see where he was.

Gavin discovered that he was in the middle of a rather large forest, with no signs of civilization anywhere. He frowned at this, slightly discouraged that there was no sign of civilization anywhere.

He then noticed what appeared to be a building just ahead of him in the forest, and he quickly climbed back down the tree, his curiosity and hopes raised.

He then headed towards it's direction, listening to On My Way by Phil Collins while he did so.

Gavin stared in awe at the castle ruins before him.

He had seen ruins before, and this castle was no exception. Several of the windows in the towers were broken, and many of the stones were cracked. It was also covered in vines in areas.

"Well, this place has seen better days," he said, impressed with how run-down the place was. "I'm surprised the place hasn't fallen down yet."

He went closer to the castle, and noticed a wooden bridge crossing a large chasm between him and the castle. He looked to see if there was another way across the chasm, but he couldn't see another way across.

Gulping nervously, he closely examined the bridge. It seemed sturdy enough to support his weight, but just because it seemed sturdy, didn't mean it was sturdy.

Hesitantly, he placed one foot on the bridge, and slowly put his full weight on it, praying that it wouldn't break. The bridge swayed slightly, but it didn't creak or groan.

"Well, I guess it can hold my weight," he muttered, still a little hesitant.

Suddenly, he heard a loud howl in the distance, causing the hair on his arms to stand on end.

It was a wolf!! He didn't know wolves were in this forest!!

"NopeNopeNope!!" he said quickly upon noticing that the howls were getting closer. "Not staying on this side!"

He quickly ran across the bridge, adrenaline coursing through his body. He could hear more howls in the distance as he ran, causing him to run faster in panic.

Once he reached the other side, he pulled one of the ropes off it's support, causing the bridge to collapse, before sitting down.

"Now the wolves can't follow me over here," he panted, the adrenaline wearing off.

After the adrenaline wore off, he stood up, and started to walk towards the castle, when reality struck him.

He had just cut off the only way for him to leave the castle.

Sighing in frustration, he shook his head at his foolish mistake. He decided to worry about that later. Right now, he had a castle to explore!!

Gavin smiled at that, and walked over to the castle doors. When he reached the doors, he noticed that they had gold designs on them, which impressed him.

"Whoever used to rule in this castle was very powerful and rich. I mean, they had to be, since there is gold on the doors," he muttered to himself, running his hand against the designs. While he was sad that the castle was only a ruin and had been abandoned for obviously some time, he was rather fascinated by it.

He pushed, well tried to, the doors open with his hands.

"What the world?" he said with surprise, stepping back as he looked at the doors. "How strong were these people if they pushed doors that were this heavy open?"

He leaned against the door this time, and pushed with his whole body. The door slowly opened as he did so with a creeaaaakkkkk!!!!!

Once the door was opened to where he could slip through, Gavin leaned against the wall to catch his breath.

"Whooh!!" He exclaimed, a bit worn out. "Who knew that you could get out of breath by simply opening a door?"

After he caught his breath, he got off the wall, and went inside, finding himself in a long hallway.

As he walked further down the hallway, he noticed the worn-out tapestries on the wall, and the threadbare carpet on the floor, covered in dust and bits of stone.

"Man. This place would have been wonderful to live in when it was in better condition," he commented, slowly walking further in. He soon reached the end of the hallway, where there were two sets of stairs, one on the left and one on the right.

He looked above the stairs, and saw two tapestries in good condition, allowing him to see the designs on them.

One of the tapestries was gold, with a bright yellow sun shining down on a white, winged unicorn. The other tapestry was a dark blue, with a light blue crescent moon and stars shining down on a light blue, winged unicorn.

"Are those......alicorns?" he asked himself, staring intently at the tapestries while tapping a finger on his chin in thought. "I don't know of any kingdoms ever having alicorns for their emblems."

Gavin looked at the tapestries for a few more minutes with curiosity, before he went up one of the flights of stairs, and made his way further in.

Soon, he found himself in what must have been the throne room, though there was rubble everywhere, and a large hole was in the roof near the back. There was a raised platform, called a dais if he remembered correctly, that had 2 thrones on it. Both were tear shaped, but one was blue while the other was orange. There was a faded rug on the floor below the dais that had an emblem on it. The emblem was a crescent moon and sun next to each other.

Gavin noticed that there were two more tapestries exactly like the ones in the hallway above the thrones, the blue one above the blue throne, and the gold throne above the orange throne.

"Huh. The same symbols," he muttered, looking at the tapestries. "I wonder if the king had the gold while the queen had the blue?"

Shrugging, he decided to explore some more, but not before bowing to the thrones to show respect. He went to the right of the thrones and down another hallway, looking around.

He soon stumbled upon the first living creatures he had encountered today. Small spiders with a light blue star on their black abdomen were crawling on the floor of the hallway.

'Cool spiders!' he thought, interested in the design on their abdomen.

He looked at the spiders with interest, albeit at a safe distance. He didn't know what the spiders would do to him after all.

The spiders soon noticed him, and began to move towards him, making him feel a little nervous.

"Please don't get on me," he whispered, not sure what these spiders would do to him. He didn't have a fear of spiders, but he didn't want them to be all over him.

Surprisingly, the spiders stopped when he spoke, and the group split apart, leaving room for him to proceed. This apparent sentient behavior surprised Gavin.

'What the heck?!! What kind of spiders are these?!!!' he screamed in his head.

He looked at them with curiosity. "Can...you understand me?" he asked, not thinking he would receive an answer. But to his surprise, the spiders nodded their heads. His eyes widened with shock, and his jaw dropped.

Now, Gavin had seen plenty of strange things in his life. He had seen people swallow swords and regurgitate them with no ill effects. He had even seen a chicken play the piano. But NEVER in his life had he ever seen anything this weird. These spiders could apparently understand him. That took first place for him as being the weirdest thing he had ever seen in his life.

But he decided to ignore the fact that these spiders could understand him for the moment, and instead focused on the matter of finding out where the heck he was. He needed a map, and fast. But he didn't know where to look in the castle for a map of the land.

Gavin smiled at this sudden thought. There had to be a library in the castle he could use to find a map and find out where he was. But where was the library? For all he knew it could have been destroyed with age.

He shook his head at the thought. No, there was no time to be pessimistic about it. He HAD to find the library.

His eyes landed on the spiders for a second, before he scoffed at the thought. Really? Ask the spiders for help? What did you do to give you an idea like that?

But it was his only option besides stumbling around the castle looking for the library.

Sighing heavily, he turned to the spiders.

"So......do you guys know where there is a library in this castle?" he asked nonchalantly, not really thinking the spiders would be able to help him. The spiders nodded again, and started to move down the hallway. Gavin stood there in shock, watching them move as a group, but was shaken from his frozen state when one of the spiders turned around and waved a leg at him, motioning for him to follow.

He went after them quickly, stumbling on some rubble in the hallway. He was able to right himself before he could fall onto the spiders though.

He then looked up to see that the spiders had stopped at a doorway with an engraving of a book next to it.

"So...this is the library?" he asked, hoping it was. One of the spiders crawled forward and nodded, confirming that it was the library.

Gavin sighed with relief, glad that he had found the library. Now he could figure out where the world he was.

"Thank you," he said to the spiders. "Don't know what I would have done without you."

The spiders clicked their mandibles in what he hoped was a spider's way of saying "You're welcome," before they crawled away.

He watched them crawl away before muttering to himself, "Sentient spiders. Gavin, what have you gotten yourself into?"

After he said that, he walked into the library. When he saw the condition of the library, he gasped.

It was horrible!!

There was dust everywhere, and portions of the roof had fallen in, leaving it open to the elements. Taking a quick stroll around the library though revealed that luckily, most of the books were in decent shape. Some, however, were too weathered to use, causing him to cry inwardly with sadness at the loss of knowledge.

Looking around, Gavin's eyes soon landed on a desk near him with several papers on it. He went over to the desk, and as he moved the dusty papers around carefully, he was glad to see that there was indeed a map.

But as soon as he saw the title of the map, his smile disappeared.

Map of Equestria

"What the hell?!!" He said, shock evident in his voice. "What kind of map is this?!!"

He looked at the map again while shaking his head, thinking that the people who had lived at this castle had a GREAT sense of humor. Although, when he looked at the map closer, it had the forest and castle on it in detail.

He sighed, and put the map back on the pile. Seems he wasn't going to be able to use a map to find out where he was.

He sat down in the chair by the desk in thought. 'Now what am I going to do?' he thought, drumming his fingers on the desk as he did so.

His mind drifted over to the spiders he had met earlier, and he smiled. Now he had something to do!!

He got up out of the chair, and started to look at the bookshelves, looking for any books on spiders. As the minutes turned into hours, Gavin had little success.

Frustrated, he sat back down in the chair. He hadn't found a book on spiders like he had hoped, so what was he going to do now?

He leaned back in thought, discovering that for an old chair, it was really comfy.

"What am I going to do now?" he said, leaning into the chair. "I checked all the books in this library, but nothing really caught my interest for now. Why, I didn't even find a book about spiders in this library."

He huffed in frustration. "So, what to do, what to do," he said, tapping on his chin in thought.

His eyes wandered over the library, looking for something to do. Finding nothing, he groaned, sitting further back into the chair.

He closed his eyes, and laid there in the chair, deciding that a nap was in order.

Soon, he was softly snoring away, deep in sleep.

A few hours later.....

Gavin sat up in the chair, having just woken up from his nap.

He turned to look at the sky, only to see that it was nighttime.

"Wow! I sure was tired," he stated, his eyes slightly wide. "I just hope I don't throw off my sleep pattern by these naps."

He then noticed that the moon was.....different. Yes, it was still the moon, but.....there was something off about it. Looking closely, his eyes widened.

There was a unicorn head in the moon!!

He stared at it in shock, unable to take his eyes off it. He shut his eyes tightly for several seconds, and then looked at the moon again.

The head was gone, making him think that he had been seeing things.

What he didn't know was that the head had disappeared from the moon while his eyes were shut.

"Wow Gavin. Now you're seeing things," he scolded to himself. "What is going on with me?" He said, shaking his head.

He sat there for a while, allowing his mind to wander all over.

His mind wandered all over, from what the spiders were, to where he was, and to why he was here.

He was so lost in thought that he didn't hear the sound of people enter the castle. The sound had disappeared by the time he came out of thought.

'Man, I haven't thought that hard in a while,' he thought to himself, getting up from the chair and stretching.

Suddenly, there was a large flash of light, catching Gavin's attention. Turning to see where it had come from, he noticed another flash of light in a tower on the other side of the castle.

"What in the world?" he asked himself. "What is that?!!"

Deciding to find out, he left the library, and walked back towards the throne room.

Once he reached the throne room, he went up the other flight of stairs and continued walking.

Suddenly, he heard a loud "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" coming from somewhere up ahead in the castle. This startled him, and caused him to quicken his pace.

It seemed that someone was in trouble.

Well, he would help them out. He just had to find them first.

Looking out the hallway window, he noticed that the sun had risen, signaling that the night was over. He could hear several girl's voices up ahead, filling him with hope. It seemed they were okay!!

Maybe they could give him a ride home, or to the closest police station.

He heard another girl's voice this time, louder than the rest. It made him feel.....calm.

Soon, yet another voice was heard in the din. It sounded....young. To Gavin though, all their voices sounded young. But this one.....he could feel the pain and sadness in her voice.

Unfortunately, he couldn't hear what exactly they were saying due to him having to go down stairs and through hallways, trying to follow the echo's of the voices.

Finally, he was able to figure out where exactly the voices where coming from, and went up the stairs, leading him to a doorway with open doors. He stopped at the top of the stairs, and took a deep breath.

This was it.

He still wasn't able to really understand their conversation, but he didn't care. He needed help.

Gavin slowly stepped into the next room, hoping that the girls were friendly. But when he entered the room, he was in for a surprise.

The room itself was in bad condition. Parts of the walls and windows were gone, and half of the roof was gone as well. But that wasn't what surprised him.

What surprised him were what was in the room. Standing in the middle of the room were.....ponies??!!

Gavin stared at the ponies, silence reigning in the room. He tilted his head to the side, wondering how in the world they got there, and why were they so brightly colored.

"What the-!! Ponies?!! Here?!! W-where in the world did you guys come from?!!" he asked in surprise as he stood in the doorway, not expecting any response at all.

To his utmost surprise, one of the ponies, colored a bubblegum pink, stepped forward and responded in a feminine voice. "Hey!! Who are you calling guys!"

This new development was too much for Gavin to handle at that moment.

He spluttered in surprise, before he felt his eyes roll up as he passed out, falling face first onto the floor.
