Rainbow Dash flew.

At this moment in time; that was the only thing she felt good at,

so she flew.

All day she had let every pony down,

so she flew.

She even let down her friends,

so she flew.

Including the Wonderbolts,

so she flew.

Including Soarin-

She halted.

That is what she was most sad about. She ruined her special some pony's day. She had never felt more disappointment in herself than she did right now, at this moment. 'If Only' were two words she was particularly fond of. Two words that could have changed everything, including this, sad feeling lurking within her.

It was Soarins birthday today. Everything was going well; ponies were dancing, singing and generally just having fun.

Except for one pony. Who would have believed it? It was Soarin.

Rainbow Dash would turn up to practically any party that any pony sent her an invitation to, but not Soarins.

Why?

Not because she forgot, not because she had injured one of her wings again, not that she was ill.....

She just didn't show up.

Rainbow Dash finally got to a soft, secure cloud to sit on. She thought about earlier that day. She remembered the reason why she didn't show up.....

"Hey.."

Rainbows head snapped around upon hearing another ponies voice.

It was slick and soothing, it warmed her heart yet- it was the one pony she didn't want to see at this point.

The sky was pink; fading into a dark; ocean blue. Dash chose to say nothing and turned her head away from the stallion, whom was flying just above the cloud that she was still perched on.

Much to her dismay, he landed softly on the cloud next to her, gazing at her with a warm, gentle smile.

Rainbow Dash simply closed her eyes so that she would not meet his gaze.

Sighing in defeat, Soarin turned his head to look at the now purple sky, with princess Luna's moon now rising and glowing like a pearl in amidst the dark sapphire shield separating Equastria from planets and moons beyond its surface. The stars glowed different shades of silver, and the sky had turned into a painting.

Yet, a certain mares eyes were still looking down despite the stunning scenery.

"Its beautiful out tonight,'' Soarin stated. "and just to think that the princesses have given me this beautiful setting on my birthday..''

Soarin turned back to the mare who still had her eyes firmly closed, which he did not notice, which he could not notice because she was still not facing him. "Funny isn't it?'' Soarin carried on with a light chuckle.

"That any pony would think tonight, that this sky that the princesses have set, is the most beautiful thing, when it isn't, however the stunning picture that stands before that; is the mares face who ceases to even meet my gaze.''

At this moment the cyan coated mare's mouth opened slightly, formed from a small gasp, as her head slowly turned around meeting his emerald pools with a shade of pink blooming on her cheeks.

"I ruined it; your birthday.'' Dash spoke softly to him maintaining her tears that were full of self disappointment.

"Why didn't you come?'' Soarin asked as he shifted closer to her.

Rainbow Dash let out a sigh. "I-I'm so sorry..'' Rainbows hooves shifted over her face whilst she gently sobbed into them.

Soarin felt his heart sink. He draped a wing around her. "Don't worry; I know why. I asked too soon."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Earlier that day....

Before Soarins party, Dash was trotting happily around Ponyville, until she bumped into Soarin.

"Happy birthday my special somepony'' Rainbow stated as she nuzzled him. He returned the nuzzle. "Dash; I have something to ask you..'' Rainbow looked at him with concern as he started to sweat with worry. "Go ahead.''

"Not here..'' Soarin took Dashes hoof and lead her behind some trees where there was a lake softly flowing and the sun beaming down on the setting.

"We've been dating for about five months now..'' Soarin stated as Rainbow let out a chuckle.

"How did I survive??'' she asked rhetorically as she turned to him with a playful grin.

Soarin let out a sigh. He breathed in. "Rainbow Dash; I love you, more then any mare..''

"But..'' Rainbow asked as tears formed her eyes as disappointment spread across her face.

"But what?'' Soarin asked confused.

"I get it; you want to break up with me? DONT YOU!! PATHETIC! ASKING TO BREAK UP WITH YOU ON YOUR BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!

Rainbow yelled as tears rolled down her cheeks as Soarin stood still, speechless. "What are you talking about Dashie??'' ''DONT DASHIE ME!!!!!" Rainbow shouted as she flew off.
Soarin was left confused, surprised and mostly heart broken. He had to fix this; whether it was at his party, or later that evening.
He didn't go after her as he figured she needed some space; and time alone.

-----------------------------------------------------------Back to the present....

"Don't you get it?'' Soarin asked. "I wasn't wanting to break up with you..''

"Then what was it??'' Dash asked, her eyes red from her sobbing.

"I was going to ask you to marry me.''

Rainbow Dashes heart thumped in her chest. She couldn't think of what to say,
so she just asked the first thing that came to her mind. "Why?''

"What do you mean 'why' Dashie?''

"I'm pathetic, I didn't trust you, I ruined your birthday-''

"But that doesn't stop me from loving you.'' Soarin stated with their muzzles inches apart.

"So Rainbow Danger Dash, will you marry me?''

Rainbow was caught off guard. The pony she admired and loved most asked her a question that would change her life forever.

"Yes.''
