It had been one thousand years since Twilight had taken on the duty of the Eternal Guardian, and much had changed in the world of Equestria. It had been rebuilt, and ponies soon forgot about the war that nearly destroyed the world. It remembered the six heroes that had saved them for a long time, but eventually, history forgot the details of how they fought the great alicorn and the heroes were lost in the past with a multitude of others that had gave their lives to stop the tyrant.

Twilight stood on the balcony of her castle in Ponyville as she began her spell to raise the sun for the morning. Another thing that had changed was the two sisters. As time progressed, the alicorns had began to age, and with it, their magic began to weaken. Celestia was now an elderly god with hardly enough magic to do her daily activities, and Luna was getting to that point, with just enough magic to raise and lower the moon each and every night.

This morning the sun was coming up with a reddish tint, either blood had been spilt during the night, or something was coming, and as Equestria had been at peace for a thousand years, she guessed that there was something coming, something big.

This morning as the sun began to rise, Twilight's thoughts began to wander to that of her friends. They had all past through this plane and joined the others in the great beyond, as had her predecessor and teacher, Fury Flight. She averted her mind, no, she wasn't going to cry today. A sound drew her attention as the door to the balcony opened.

"Good Morning sleepy head, I was just raising the sun," Twilight said to the unicorn that walked out from the castle. His name was Star Shadow, a dark blue pony with a black mane. He was the student of Twilight, learning the magic that had helped her so long ago, friendship and other magic's. It was after she had taken him into her castle and began to teach him the magic that had changed her so radically that she learned that he was the descendant of her old teacher, and one of her friends, Rainbow Dash and Fury Flight. It was then that she realized the love for magic he had, and the determination he had, that reminded her of his ancestors. He had the best of both of them, the magical prowess of Fury flight, and the determination and loyalty of Rainbow Dash.

"Good morning Princess, what is my lesson for today, are we finally going to work on those time spells," Star Shadow asked as his ears perked up, "Or are we going to do more teleportation?" he asked slowly.

"Actually, neither Star Shadow, there is somewhere I want you to see," Twilight said as her spell concluded.

At this, Star Shadows ears perked back up as his interest began to soar. "What do you mean Twilight, where are we going?" he asked.

"take my hoof and I'll show you," Twilight said as she held out her left hoof to the unicorn. Star Shadow took her hoof and they disappeared from the balcony, and reappeared in a cave on the edge of Equestria.

"Where...... are........ we?" Star Shadow asked as he took in the sights of the oldest spot in the countries history.

"This is known as the start, or better as the Cave of Friendship. This is where the three tribes came together and defeated the Wendigo's and gave birth to Equestria. This is also the sight of another cave, one shown to me by a pony that I looked up to," Twilight said as she walked into the cave that held memories of another time, during the war that she became the Guardian of Equestria, and she seen some of the creators of their world.

They walked through the ancient cave, and Star Shadow's eyes were moving all around, taking in the sights of the cave, with drawings on the wall of the spell that drove back the frozen foes and the unicorn that had saved them all, clover the clever.

"Is that....... Clover.." Star Shadow began, but Twilight finished his sentence and answered his question.

"The Clever, yes, And yes, she was taught by the greatest mage in history, Star Swirl the Bearded," Twilight answered with an almost fan girl voice.

The two walked to the back edge of the cave where Twilight sensed the doorway, and in shock, seen it open before her. Fury had seen it, and had guided Twilight into it, and now she was here, guiding Star Shadow through it. She walked through it and heard a thump as Star Shadow hit solid rock.

"Twilight, Princess Twilight........ Where are you?" Star Shadow called out.

"Right here Star Shadow," Twilight said from just behind the doorway. "Walk this way, and remember this, that there is no wall in front of you," Twilight said, as she heard the unicorn begin walking towards the sound of her voice.

Then the unicorn slowly came through the barrier repeating to himself that their was no wall.

Twilight placed a hoof on the unicorn's nose before he walked into her. "Your through Shadow, you can open your eyes," Twilight said softly as the unicorn blinked his eyes open slowly.

"Wooaahh, Twilight, this is amazing," Star Shadow said as he looked around at the sights of the eternal maze.

"Don't get too inquisitive Star Shadow, just follow me, or you will be lost forever in here," Twilight said as she started to walk down a path that was lit up to her through her guardian sense. The two walked down the path for what seemed to be forever until they came upon the light of the eternal cave.

As they walked into the cave, Star Shadow's curiosity became overwhelmed, and he collapsed.

"Oh my gosh, are you all right?" Twilight asked as she picked Star Shadow up off of the ground with her magic.

"Yea, I am all right Princess. where are we?" He asked.

"This is the Eternal cave, the place where you will receive your next lesson, if you accept it that is," Twilight said as she looked at the unicorn.

"Accept what?" He asked.

"A burden heavier than even royalty," Twilight said as she walked over to the great eye. "Your family holds a legacy, far greater than any member of royalty, even me," Twilight began. "One thousand years ago, your ancestor and by far the bravest stallion I have ever known, bestowed that legacy upon me, and now, I am here to bestow that legacy back into his blood line," Twilight said as the eye behind her open, and looked into the soul of Star Shadow.

He saw a figure, a greenish brown alicorn looking at him from a place of light, and beside him was a cyan Pegasus with a rainbow mane.

"Do You accept this destiny as your own, Star Shadow? Do you accept the responsibility of the Eternal Guardian upon yourself?" The figure asked, staring straight into the eyes of the unicorn.

Star Shadow looked down, and then over to the Two figures, "Yes, I will, but first I have a question, Who are you?" Star shadow replied to the being.

"My name was Fury Flight, and I was the Eternal Guardian before I gave it to Twilight Sparkle, I held the burden of guardian for three thousand years, taking it from my father, Galaxo, king of the Cosmos. I seen many wars and skirmishes, villains rise and fall and the progress of Pony kind from the background. I protected the Elements of Harmony, even to my dying breath, several times. Do you still wish to take on the burden of the Eternal Guardian, my young unicorn?" Fury Flight asked from beyond the grave.

"Yes, I will take the burden and carry it as my own," He said as the figures began to retreat back to the light.

"Then you shall be trained by Twilight to one day take the honored position of Eternal guardian, but first, have a token of your family behind the eye," Fury said as he and Dash turned back into dust and disappeared.

The eye opened to reveal it's contents, two spells, five small parchments, a stone that seemed to draw life away from everything around it, and a tattered photo, showing two ponies in a stadium, one cyan with a rainbow mane, and the other greenish brown with a fiery red and yellow mane. Star Shadow took the photo from the vault and showed it to Twilight.

"This was him, wasn't it, Fury Flight," Star Shadow asked Twilight, who had tears streaming down her cheeks at the sight of her long lost friends.

"Yes, that was him, and the mare was Rainbow Dash, the Element of loyalty, and my friend," Twilight said as she looked back to the eye that had closed again, blocking the rest of the world from it's treasure.

"When will my training begin Twilight?" Star Shadow asked.

"It already has Star Shadow, it already has," Twilight answered as she prepared her magic to take them out of the cave and back to the castle and to the next part of Star Shadow's training, the forbidden library where he would learn about the Guardian magic and history, along with the oath that he would one day take to defend Equestria from all evil.

a new day

Twilight walked out of the castle in Ponyville and began to walk into the now bustling city. She did so every month or so, and today would be no different. As she walked out of the castle however, three figures at the edge of the city caught her eye. They walked slowly and without purpose towards the city. She took off the ground and flew towards the lone figures.

Upon arriving, she noticed that they were all hooded with red robes, and she seen that one of them had an obvious limp. She flew above them for a few moments before coming down for a landing in front of them. The three hooded ponies seemed unmoved by her perfect landing, she had Rainbow Dash to thank for that.

"Hello newcomers, my name is Princess Twilight Sparkle. It is a pleasure to meet you three, and can I ask who you three are?" Twilight asked the three ponies, who finally acknowledged that she had even existed.

"We are without names princess, for we are simply travelers through this land, searching for heirlooms from our ancient land," one of the three ponies said slowly and without emotion.

"Well, I have been here for a while, what are you looking for?" Twilight asked the ponies with curiosity.

The three ponies looked to each other and nodded before turning and spoke to twilight. "We have been searching for stones, they hold sentimental meaning to us, and we have looked for them for years," The pony in the middle said in the same emotionless tone that the three ponies had shared.

Twilight looked to the ponies with intent, "Do you have one of these stones to show me, and maybe I could help you find another?"

They looked to each other again before the middle pony took off her hood, revealing a pale unicorn head, and a blue mane that looked tattered and frayed at the ends. She then brought up a black stone that seemed to bring the very life from Twilight. That stone looked familiar, like she had seen it before, but she couldn't place it.

"That stone.....," Twilight said, looking intent with curiosity.

"You have seen a stone like this?" the pony said with renewed emotion and am awe like voice.

"Yes, but I can't place where I have seen one," Twilight said as she took her eyes away from the stone.

"Our legends say that there are six stones that form a mighty ruler from our distant past, but we ourselves do not believe that, only that they were crafted by great alicorns thousands of years ago," The pony on the left said, as they also removed their hood to show that of a stallion. His coat was also pale white and a very pale blue mane.

That story caught Twilight's attention, stones crafted by alicorns that formed a mighty ruler, they sounded a lot like the stones of death that held Thanatos. "That story sounds like a story I heard a long time ago," Twilight said as she stretched the truth a little. She herself had lived the story of Thanatos, having fought alongside her once mentor, Fury Flight.

"Do you know where you might have seen the stone?" The third pony asked, keeping his hood upon his head, merely looking up through the shadow of the fabric, eyes gleaming a slight blue.

"No, I don't recall, but your are welcome to stay in Ponyville as long as you need before moving on," Twilight said with a little doubt in her voice.

"Thank you for your kindness Princess, but we must be moving on," The middle pony said as she brought her hood back over her head, covering her pale coat.

"Then farewell, and have a nice trip," Twilight said as she turned and took off the ground, flying back to Ponyville, the thought of the conversation she had just had on her mind, taking up most of her brain activity, nearly making her crash into a nearby tree.

"She knows of our travels," the left pony said to the middle.

"Maybe, but what she doesn't know is that we have the other five stones, and they have led us here," the middle pony responded.

"What will we do to find the sixth and bring back our mighty master?" The right pony asked.

"Find the sixth stone, the others will lead us to it, and then use the stones to revive our master so that he may bring this world to order, and bring about the destruction of harmony and destroy the Princess that guards this world," the middle pony said as they looked to the west, where the stone pointed them. They began to walk in that direction to their next destination, and hopefully, the joyous rebirth of their master, Thanatos, The God of Death.

Twilight returned to the castle where an eager Star Shadow waited for his lesson for the day. She landed on the balcony before he started asking about her morning. She merely ignored her student as she began to recite a legend that Fury himself had told her a few years before his timely death.

"When the sun and moon both fail, the darkness of death shall rise again and consume the world of life and light, unless the guardian of light can summon the bringer of life and bring the world to order."

Star Shadow looked at Twilight as she recited the legend of old before responding. "It is said that it is nothing but a old ponies tale."

"No Star Shadow, it's not just a ponies tale, Fury Flight himself told me that legend before he died, and I just got my proof in three ponies at the edge of town," Twilight answered.

"Then what can we expect?" Star Shadow asked, watching Twilight pacing the castle floor.

"The end of the world Star Shadow, Thanatos' return. It took twelve alicorns to defeat him, and now only I remain. And better yet, they way that the legend described to defeat him. The bringer of life is gone, and has been for thousands of years," Twilight panicked.

"Calm down Twilight, we just need to find out more about the legend," Star shadow said as he used his magic to stop the alicorn. she hit the magical barrier, in which she looked to the unicorn that had brought up the barrier.

"Thanks, we can look in the library for answers," Twilight said as she began to walk to the aforementioned room.

The two ponies walked into the library where they spent the rest of the afternoon looking through books for answers for their problem. After about four hours of fruitless labor in the library, Twilight sat down in the middle of the library and cupped her face with her hooves.

"It's hopeless, we'll never find the answer here, the only other library that could've aided us was destroyed a thousand years ago," Twilight said, tears coming to the surface.

Star Shadow placed his hoof on Twilight's shoulder to comfort her, but she began to pull away. "You are not the pony that I need right now Star Shadow, they're all dead, and that will never change," Twilight sobbed quietly.

"You have to believe in yourself Twilight, you have come so far, you can't just give up now," Star Shadow soothed Twilight with his words. "Isn't there some way to find a way into the library you need, as in a time spell?" Star Shadow asked.

"What, No..... Wait, that's it," Twilight said as she sprung to her feet. She was so excited that she grabbed Star Shadow with both hooves and gave him a peck on the lips. He stumbled around for a second before falling over in a love high. Twilight then ran past him to a shelf where she had been working on just such spells, and pick out one spell. It was tattered and worn, as it was a couple thousand years old, written by the old mage Star Swirl The Bearded, and read the spell that he had written and she had tweaked.

The room began to light up as papers began to fly around Twilight and Star Shadow, who still lay on the floor, mumbling to himself. A popping sound commenced as Twilight and her student disappeared back in time, one thousand years into the past, to the moment that Kaorn returned to the world.

The Past, and a key to the future

Papers and books began to fly around the castle foyer as a light appeared in the center of the room. Two ponies suddenly shot out of the light and flew across the room.

Twilight groaned as she rubbed her head that had hit the wall of her castle. "I don't remember that happening last time I went back in time," she said as she slowly got her balance on her hooves.

Star Shadow slowly groaned and rose to his feet, checking his body for any broken bones. Finding none, he then made his way over to Twilight. "So, what year is it Twilight?'"

"If I calculated right, we arrived on the day that we buried Fury Flight the first time, and Kaorn was released," Twilight said as she looked out one of the many windows of the castle, to the town of Ponyville, still scarred from it's encounter with Nightmare Fury. "We have to get moving, we need to get to the Crystal Empire before Kaorn is released and destroys the castle," Twilight said as she took Star Shadow by the hoof, in which the unicorn blushed a little, and called upon her magic to teleport them across the world, but they ended up on the other side of Canter lot, where a group of Ponies stood over a grave site.

She saw her friends, all five of them, and the Princesses. Twilight didn't realize that tears had started to fall from her cheeks as she relived the day that her life had changed drastically forever. She watched as her friends lowered the red casket that held the body of the alicorn, Fury Flight. To her surprise however, she heard a breath beside her. She jumped and turned to see Fury standing beside her. He looked at her, then to the group where her past self stood among her friends, burying his former body.

"What happened in the Future Twilight?" Fury asked, looking to the purple alicorn with somber interest.

"I can't really say, but I need to get to the crystal empire and fast, I need to get to the library," Twilight said to her former teacher, who looked a little more confused but accepted her explanation.

"Then I suggest you hurry, I can feel a tension in the air so thick it could be cut with a knife, something is coming," Fury said, looking to the ponies burying his body before taking off the ground and flying toward them.

Twilight looked to her friends, and then to Star Shadow, who stood beside her, and then took his hoof again and focused her magic on the crystal empire. Her magic began to crackle around them as the teleportation spell activated and they disappeared from the hill and flew over reality to the Crystal Empire, where they reentered the world in the library of the Crystal Empire, where they scared the wits out of an old Librarian, who fainted at the sight of them.

Twilight looked up at the massive library and used her own senses as a librarian to find a section that might yield her answers. She looked to the highest part of the library, in a section simply called ancient times. The section showed many things, but not in the titles that Twilight searched. There was barely anything on the Great Alicorns, and this was their home. Twilight then got the thought that like Canterlot, that the books of that high of importance would be hid from the world in a place that could be spotted with her guardian magic.

Twilight then called upon her guardian magic, her horn glowing a soft white. She looked around in awe, as the library was lit with so many secret rooms and dimensions. She tried to look into one of the rooms, and found it occupied by what looked to be a frost dragon. It's head was crowned by ice and had a hole where its heart should have been. It looked into Twilight's eyes with piercing blue eyes before it spoke.

"Are you here to return my heart, the one they stole from me?" the dragon asked, looking to the alicorn.

"Your heart, the only heart here is the..........." Twilight said as she cut off her speech. The seven had slain a frost dragon and used it's heart to warm the frozen north to create the Crystal Empire.

"MY HEART!!!!" The Dragon screamed, breathing the door to the room shut with frost.

Twilight closed her eyes as she imagined the frost entrapping her, but opened her eyes to see that it was not so.

"Have you found anything yet?" Star Shadow asked from the floor, pulling Twilight from the multitude of doors around her.

"No, not yet, but I think I might know where to look," Twilight answered as she called upon her guardian magic again. The doors reappeared and she called upon her magic to guide her to the right door. Her magic brought her to a door that was sealed by a lock made of black steel, and held on by a chain made of fire links. She tried to break the lock with her magic, but found it stronger than her magic. She tried it again and again, but came to no avail. She then heard a voice that was familiar to her.

"You will not find what you seek in there Twilight, that door holds the universe that holds Kaorn, the door that you seek is over there, to the left," Came the voice, coming from all around her.

"Kronos, your in my mind?" Twilight asked, looking to the mentioned door. The door was simple, and also unlocked, and as she moved towards it, it opened to reveal a world not unlike Equestria. "I was looking for a book or two Kronos, not a memory."

"But could a book give you the same amount of information that a memory can?" Kronos asked.

Twilight walked through the doorway into a world that was dark, and looked like a war had been waged for many years. There were ruins of a lost civilization every where, along with the scattered bones of said civilization. They were not like ponies as they seemed bipedal. Just as she went in for a closer look, a lightning bolt struck the ground beside her. She jumped at the lightning, and then looked up to see clouds, but instead saw a yellow alicorn, with a mane and tail that were made from Lightning.

"So, she has brought another to do battle with us?" The being said. As he spoke, he was joined by five others, the one beside him was blue with a mane of water, while the one the right of him was red with a mane of fire. There was another to his left that was golden with a flowing white mane, and carried a bow, while the one to his right was green with a ruffled black mane and carried a mace. The one behind the pony of lightning Twilight had already met, Thanatos.

Just as Twilight began to power up, a dark pony stepped through her and faced the six old gods.

"Your reign of terror ends here, Zeus!!!" Kaorn yelled up at the gods.

Twilight's eyes widened as she looked to the alicorn that had tried to destroy equestria, now fighting to save and create it.

A bright light sprung out behind her as she looked to Kaorn, forcing her to avert her gaze to the light. A pony of pure white flew above her. She had a cutie mark of a quill and ink, and had a red mane that had been straight at one time, but had been ruffled up by war.

"Your time here has ended, your armies are defeated, surrender or be destroyed!!" The white alicorn called out.

The six gods laughed and began to conjure up magic of their own. Their horns crackled with magic and power as they tried to overpower the pure white mare, but she had other plans. Her horn lit up a soft white and a portal began to open up in front of her. As it did, the portal began to suck reality itself into the portal.

"If you don't want to surrender, then I banish you to a dimension that you will never escape and can never destroy," The alicorn said as the portal expanded.

The six gods began to slide across the cloud that they were standing on. They tried to attack, but their magic only fed the portal, and they flew off the cloud and fell into the portal, which then closed behind them.

Twilight was then teleported to the future, about a thousand years or so.

She looked over to see Fury Flight, a war torn Fury. His body was covered with bruises and cuts, and he seemed at any moment that he could attack the sun if it looked at him wrong. Him and five other alicorns looked at a Pure white alicorn, but she wasn't the same as before. She seemed like she was old and weathered, almost old, and was fading in and out of existence. They brought forth six jewels, made by their own magic. Each of them looked to their jewel, and cast a spell upon it. A portal of white began to open and accept the white alicorn with loving hooves. Once she entered the portal, the stones lit up with magic and brought forth the elements of harmony.

Twilight looked to the elements with a tint of sadness, remembering her days as the element of magic, but then found that she was being pulled out of the memory back to the real world.

She flew out of the door and fell to the floor where a bewildered Star Shadow looked at her with care.

"Are you ok Twilight?" Star Shadow asked, helping her to her hooves.

"Yea, but I have no idea what just happened, but I have an idea of how to save the future, come on Star Shadow," Twilight said as she took Star Shadow's hooves and reproduced her time spell and traveled back to the present. What they found in the present however, was nothing like they wanted. When Twilight returned, she came face to face with Thanatos, and the smirk on his face could only mean one thing, war was coming.....

War and Terrible Secrets

Twilight's eyes widened as she watched the god stare back at her with a sinister smile. He looked over to Star Shadow, and then back to Twilight. She called upon her magic to attack, but Thanatos brought forth a hoof.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, you might hurt this one," Thanatos said as his own horn lit up and a fragile Celestia appeared in his hooves, between him and Twilight.

Twilight reigned in her magic and stared Thanatos down before speaking. "You coward, hiding behind another to save your unholy hide," Twilight said menacingly. "What is it you want Thanatos?"

"I want what I always wanted Twilight Sparkle, the destruction of this world and the rebirth of my kingdom," Thanatos said, looking down at the princess in his hooves.

"You will never succeed Thanatos, history has proven that time and time again, but the question remains of how you were revived," Twilight said.

"Honestly Twilight, do you not think that the stones would remain untouched through all that time," Thanatos said, looking to Twilight. "The stones fell one after another to the hooves of time, falling into the hooves of my followers, so that I could be resurrected. The first stone buried in the earth below even the deepest of mines was found by miners, digging deeper than they had ever dug. The stone brought them what they thought would be fame and fortune, but only gave them death. Moments after they picked up the stone, the cave collapsed and killed the three miners, the stone being all that remained, picked up by a Death follower. The next stone was erupted from the volcano in the Dragon kingdom, and found by a young fire drake, who took the stone to his master, who in turn killed the dragon and then turned on himself, leaving the stone open to the grasp of another," Thanatos said, smiling at Twilight with a radiant grin.

"The third stone was drifted to the shore of the Equus sea, found by a traveler, who fell victim to it's magic and took to the dark side, embracing the ways of death. The Fourth stone was found in Cloudsdale, inside the infamous rainbow factory, where the pegasi there had embraced the stone and used it for their evil purposes. The fifth stone was found in Canterlot, right under your noses, taken by one of the maids who left the castle," Thanatos finished.

"But that only makes five stones Thanatos, you are not fully powered and will never get the sixth," Twilight said, looking at the god with interest.

"It matters not, I don't need the stone to live on this plane, but I will get the stone eventually," Thanatos said again, and then looked to Twilight.

Twilight's thoughts began to race about the stones, Thanatos, and the factory he mentioned in Cloudsdale. That factory was just a myth, wasn't it.

"What about the Rainbow Factory Thanatos, where would this factory be when Celestia herself destroyed the factory hundreds of years ago?" Twilight asked, eyeing the god up and waiting for him to start his response.

"Is That what they told You Twilight Sparkle, Hahahahahahaha, they really have kept you in the dark haven't they, your pure gods," Thanatos said with a hearty laugh.

"What are you talking about Thanatos?" Twilight said.

"Your great leaders leading perfect lives, even in a dimension of shadow, I seen their imperfections. Your lovely Princess here didn't destroy the factory, no no, she built the factory!" Thanatos said, smiling sinisterly.

Twilight's eyes sunk in and her breath quickened. "Tell me it's not True Celestia, tell me it's not true," She said to the elderly princess in front of her.

Celestia hung her head before whispering "It's true Twilight, it's true. I built the factory to be rid of those who worshiped Kaorn, but then it escalated to everypony who didn't follow my rule, but then I left the factory and tried to destroy it, but it's evil has remained,"

"You see Twilight, straight from the horse's mouth, but let's not stop there, how about your Princess Luna, who felt that her Purity was so important that she abandoned a foal that she birthed to seem that she was pure and virgin. And what of your teacher, Fury Flight, who killed thousands of innocent lives in his father's name," Thanatos said, looking at Twilight now, piercing her soul with his pale blue eyes.

Twilights anger had peaked, and her magic no longer followed her will. She screamed as her magic erupted and fired upon the two ponies, burning Celestia alive. Her screams sickened Twilight's ear, but the magic wouldn't stop, she would kill them all for what they did, then she would kill Thanatos and his army, but her magic backfired and came back at her.

"Tsk tsk Twilight, no need to become so angry, at least not yet," Thanatos said as his horn lit up. A portal opened up in the center of the room, and Thanatos ushered a few words of magic that Twilight didn't recognize, and then five alicorns flew from the portal. The same five alicorns that Twilight had seen in the past, these were the old gods. "Well Twilight, we would stay and chat, but we have a world to destroy, and no time to do it in, toodaloo." The six alicorns then took flight and flew to the world outside, and began their war against Equestria.

There was an explosion as the gods began their assault on Ponyville, and eventually all of equestria. Twilight wasn't worried about that at the moment, but looked to the charred corpse of Celestia in front of her. How could she do that, her magic just went crazy and power had flowed through her. She walked slowly to the body where she sat and began to cry. Even though Celestia had created that horrible place, she had tried to destroy it and had protected equestria for hundreds of years after. Her body was black and charred from the fire, and Twilight felt tears falling down from her cheeks. Just then, Celestia's eyes opened a sliver. Twilight began to panic, Celestia was suffering. Celestia began to reach out a hoof to Twilight.

"Don't worry Twi.. Twilight....., you did what you could, don't beat yourself up over this. I was bound to pay for that sometime Twilight, and I am glad it was you to bring about my end....." Celestia faltered as she said her last farewell to Twilight, who had been in tears as she listened.

"Celestia, CELESTIA..." Twilight said, but the alicorn had already crossed over. Twilight shed another tear as she called upon her magic. A spark ignited at Celestia's tail as a fire consumed the alicorn, but not like the fire before, this fire was gentle and caressed the body of the princess into the sky, where her ashes turned into that of the sky. The sky then began to let out a gentle and soothing rain, like the sky itself had began to cry over the loss of one of it's goddesses.

Twilight let out a few more tears before turning her attention to the door. Before she walked out though, a voice from the very air stopped her.

"Twilight, don't walk out that door yet," The voice of Fury Flight called out from everywhere.

"Fury Flight, your dead, how are you calling out to me?" Twilight asked the voice.

"Twilight Sparkle, you hear the voice of Kronos and you don't question it, but one of us comes back from the beyond to speak to you and you lose your shit," Fury's voice said, the beginnings of an apparition of him beginning to form before her.

"Sorry Fury, I am a little shook up right now, that's all, Thanatos returned and I just learned so much about the three of you that I didn't want to know," Twilight began. "I just killed Princess Celestia," she said, beginning to cry.

"Celestia dead, Thanatos returned, what else is new?" Fury said.

"WHAT!!" Twilight screamed, "YOU WANT SOMETHING NEW, THEN HOW LONG DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE RAINBOW FACTORY BEING UNDER CELESTIA'S CONTROL!!"

Fury looked surprised this time, "What, where did you here that from, Celestia would never..." Fury started, but Twilight cut him off.

"I heard it from Celestia herself, she created the factory to rid the world of Kaorn's followers," Twilight said, to a very distraught Fury.

"No, no she would never do that," Fury said, before looking to a window that shattered.

"Twilight, there will be a time to argue, but now I must tell you the way..." But Fury was cut off again.

"And what about Luna, he said that she abandoned a foal to remain pure and...." Twilight was cut off by a slap to the face. Even though Fury was a ghost, the hit still threw Twilight off guard.

"Don't you ever talk about Luna like that ever again Twilight, you don't know the half of it," Fury started, and then began to calm down. "Luna did give birth to a foal, but she never abandoned it, she was separated from her, when she was hit by the nightmare spell. The foal was born on the moon, and died of suffocation moments after...., she had been so proud of that foal, she was going to be her successor and take over so she could work on her constellations."

"And what of you Fury, did you kill thousands of innocent lives in your father's name?" Twilight asked.

"It wasn't like that Twilight, during the war, I was a different pony, war...., it changes you Twilight. I didn't kill innocent lives intentionally, Kaorn changed them into perverted alicorns, and only upon killing them did we find that they reverted back into their civilian state," Fury said, looking with aged and worn eyes towards the purple alicorn. "After that dread truth, we began working to find a way to cure the sick twisting will of Kaorn, and we found it in the elements." Fury said before moving to the window to look outside. "Is this the end Twilight? Will this be the end of time? The end of Pony kind? Or will in Equestria's greatest hour of need, will one rise to the challenge and defeat the old gods and restore harmony?" Fury said before dissipating.

Twilight looked to where Fury had been a second ago, and then moved to the window to look out at the destruction that had befallen Ponyville. She heard another explosion and then a flash of rainbow colors. She watched as the current bearers of the elements tried to hold off the force of Thanatos and the others, but they were hardly a tease for the gods. They smote the elements one by one, some by fire, some by water, and some by lightning. Twilight watched in agony as they tortured the last element, her former element, magic, until the young mare snapped and took her own life. Twilight screamed from the window as her magic took hold of her and blew out a hole in the wall large enough to fit the train through. She screamed as her magic sprang forth and doused the bodies of the elements, but then set the bodies of the gods aflame. She then brought with her magic elemental magic, controlling the very ground around her. She threw everything she had at them, but they simply brushed it off. Thanatos smiled as he watched the eternal guardian, the most powerful being in the known world fail to even dent them.

"Better luck next time Twilight," Thanatos said as he and the others disappeared, leaving Twilight with six new corpses to cry over.

The Secret Of The Elements

Twilight stood out in the path with tears streaking down her cheeks, looking at the bodies of the six elements. She then heard the voice of Fury come up again.

"Twilight, you need to check the bodies and retrieve the stones," Fury said from her mind.

"Fury!" Twilight yelled with more tears, "You heartless Bastard, they just gave their lives to protect Equestria and you want me to search their bodies like common pony fodder," She yelled again.

"I know what they did," Fury snapped, and then whispered, "I know what they did." Fury seemed to regain his composure before speaking again. "I know Twilight, but we need the elements, and I can assure you that they will have a celebration that they have never seen before, but without the elements, Thanatos and his cohorts will be unstoppable," Fury said.

"Fury, I watched the elements fail to them, why would going at them again with the elements help any?" Twilight asked.

"It's not the elements so much as the one inside the elements we need Twilight," Fury said

"The alicorn from the past," Twilight whispered.

"Yes Twilight, the alicorn from the past, but it will take a spell to release her that sadly was destroyed during the shadow wars against King Sombra, or Kaorn, whichever you believe," Fury said, his apparition forming again.

"Then how will we get it...." Twilight started, but the thought already came across her mind. "I'm going back in time, aren't I?" She asked, almost sarcastically.

"Yes Twilight, and farther back than you are imagining," Fury started, his form beginning to fade a little, before continuing. "You are going back, all the way back to the first war, the Great Alicorn War, there, the door to the library you need will still be open, and unlocked," He said. "But be warned Twilight Sparkle, Equestria was different back then, and the danger was very real. I will be beside you, whispering to you, but my past self might not be so kind. I was a different pony back then, some called me merciless, others called me ruthless, but all said that I did what was necessary," Fury finished, before his apparition vanished again, as if it had been taken away by a quick wind.

Twilight stared down to the ground, to the six ponies before her, before he magic lifted the bodies and brought forth the elements of harmony. She shuddered a little, it had been over seven hundred years since she had been this close to the elemental jewels, and they looked different from when she and her friends bore them. They no longer looked like the cutie marks of her friends, but now had taken their original forms and were held to their pony by a necklace.

"Okay Fury, here I go," Twilight said as she began to recite the spell to take her back in time, farther than she had ever gone, back to a time when her hero, Star Swirl the bearded lived, and the Elements were first created. It was truly a time of gods and ponies. She felt the magic react around her, the blood rushing in her veins, the thrill of powerful magic that sent a chill up her spine, the taste it brought to her tongue, like a berry almost, but sour at the same time. The air around her began to crackle and howl as her spell progressed. The just as soon as she looked at her castle, she now looked at a field, and a small town in the distance.

Twilight looked around at her new surroundings, and gasped in realism, Ponyville wouldn't exist for another few thousand years. She looked at the small town and wondered about what it was, but had a small whisper in her ear give her the answer.

"That is the small town of spear sound, a town known for it's weaponry, but nothing could save them from their fate," Fury whispered from her ear.

"What do you mean, what fate?" Twilight asked.

Just then she heard a large explosion from the town, which rocked the ground around her. Then she heard another one that had a larger report. She began to run for the city, but the voice of Fury stopped her.

"Stop Twilight, there's nothing you can do here, just let history unfold," Fury said, stopping Twilight in her tracks.

"Right," Twilight said, stopping to watch the oncoming battle.

The town ponies tried to fight, but the Red alicorns of Kaorn's army ran over them, but it was short lived, as six lights burst out of the city hall. Six alicorns stood in between the ponies and the forces of Kaorn. In the front was the leader, one Twilight had come to know well, Fury, but he looked different. Upon his head was a golden helmet that held his fiery mane down, and he had plates of armor on his forelegs, which held concealed blades. To his right and left were the other five element bearers, wearing the same armor.

The Past Fury had a look of anger on his face that couldn't be described, and only said one phrase to the alicorns before him. "Surrender and be spared." The alicorns began to laugh, as they outnumbered him and the others at least ten to one. "Then so be it." Fury said as he and the others charged forward.

Fury flicked his hooves, releasing the concealed blades and ramming them into two alicorns, who fell over with out a sound, then he brought out his long sword with his magic and blocked a strike from another alicorn as he pulled his blades from the alicorns and began to fight other alicorns that had began to group around him. He fought like a warrior, but also like that of a barbarian, sloppy in his killing strikes, spilling black blood across the ground as he moved to another target with the grace of a butterfly.

Twilight watched with horrid fascination as Fury and the others cut down the alicorns with deadly precision. She got the feeling that she was not alone, and looked over her shoulder to see the very pony that she had slain so long ago.

Kaorn stood just inches away, and his red piercing eyes were focused on her, and her alone.

"Twilight Sparkle," He whispered, before bringing forth his scythe to end the alicorn. "You traveled back in time to stop the collapse of time, but you journeyed to the wrong moment, for I traveled back with you to end this war in my favor, and I cannot have you taking the one spell to take it away from me again," Kaorn said as he swiped his scythe around narrowly missing Twilight.

She lept back as Kaorn began to swing the scythe back and prepared her magic. "How can you kill what is already dead Twilight Sparkle?" Kaorn said as he laughed at her attempts to kill the once feared god.

All of a sudden, a bolt of magic struck the ground in front of Kaorn, throwing the god backwards. Twilight looked to see Fury flying to her aid. The alicorn then brought forth his sword to his aid, blocking the swipe of Kaorn's scythe.

"So, it comes down to you and me Fury Flight," Kaorn said as he lifted his scythe high for a down stroke, only to find thin air.

"Me and you Kaorn, and this time you will stay down," Fury said as his magic boiled and launched a spell of fire at the god of chaos. the spell hit it's mark, but Kaorn had already raised his shield, blocking the effects.

"I will never fall to an alicorn who isn't even able to save the lives of innocent ponies," Kaorn said as he dodged a sword swipe.

"Maybe, but you will fall to our combined strength, the Elements of Harmony!" Fury yelled as he charged the god. Kaorn dodged the alicorn and plunged his scythe deep into the side of Fury, who doubled over at the strike.

"It seems that you already have fallen Fury, greatest of your father's disappointments," Kaorn said, pulling the scythe out of Fury's side and raising it to end the alicorn's life.

Fury closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable, but it never came as another explosion rocked the land around them, followed by another. He opened his eyes to see Kaorn reeling from a blow from Grog's mace, and then from Serenity's daggers. The god fell to the ground, defeated for the moment. Fury felt a sensation as his wounds healed, and turned to see the medic and found Hurricane. He gave a feint smile before turning his attention back to Kaorn, who had recovered to his feet.

"Kaorn, today you pay for your crimes against Pony kind," Fury said as he looked to the other elements, who nodded in agreement. Their horns began to glow as the elemental jewels levitated above them. The jewels then began to glow themselves, and a rainbow beam shot out from them and struck the god, who began to writhe in pain. The god then levitated off the ground and slowly disappeared, screaming and yelling as he was imprisoned into the dimension without time, his home for the next three thousand years.

After the god had vanished, the six replaced their elements in pouches on their sides, before the other five returned to the town, to spread the word of Kaorn's defeat and aid the wounded.

Fury looked to Twilight, who was still in shock after seeing the defeat of an enemy that she would eventually kill in the future.

"My lady, the war against Kaorn is over, we won," he said, a look of relief upon his face.

Twilight remembered why she had come and spoke to the commander. "Fury Flight, I have to get to the Crystal castle and find a spell hidden in a dimension, the spell you used to form the elements," Twilight said, looking into the eyes of her soon to be teacher.

Fury, instead of taking her side, drew his sword and pressed it to her neck. "And just how do you know about that, it was done somewhere you could never of seen," Fury said, a look of deadly honesty in his eyes.

Twilight gulped, but heard the whisper of Fury in her ear.

"Tell him the truth Twilight, tell him of your power," the dead Fury spoke softly into Twilight's ear.

"I come here from another time, far in the future, I came here to unleash the alicorn inside, as it is the only way to defeat a foe that predates our time," Twilight said, before taking a breath and speaking again. "I am the eternal Guardian now, given the vow by you yourself and Kronos in the future, to defeat Kaorn when he escapes the dimension without time." Twilight closed her eyes, waiting for the sword to either run her through, or return to it's scabbard, but the sword remained.

Fury's mind raced with the information given to him, Kaorn would escape in the future, and he would give this mare the power of the eternal guardian to stop him, and no word on the other great alicorns other than Kronos, who was supposed to be dead. "Prove to me that you are the eternal guardian, and I will believe your story, but fail, and my sword will taste your blood as it has many today," he said as he looked the purple alicorn dead in the eyes.

"Oh what do I say to convince him, what do I do?" Twilight thought as she looked at the alicorn before her. "I can lead you to the eternal cave," She said, a little nervous.

"Fools luck," Fury said, as he pressed his sword harder into her skin, beginning to draw blood.

"I can open the eye, and tell you what is in there," she nearly yelped out as the blade began to bite into her flesh.

The blade left her skin and return to it's scabbard with a dull clank.

"If you can open the eye, than you are truly the guardian, and speak the truth in your words," Fury said as he placed a hoof onto Twilight's shoulder. "Come, we have much to discuss and little time to do it in," he said as the two began to fly back to the crystal castle, where news of the god's defeat had began to reach the ears of the first six, what was left of them.

Twilight and Fury arrived at the castle of the gods around sundown, and were greeted by a multitude of guests. They spent the next two hours trying to get through the crowd of ponies as Fury led her to the great crystal library.

When they finally arrived in the library, it was nearly midnight, and they were exhausted.

"Where is the door Fury.... aahhhhhhh...... and I will get the spell," Twilight said as she looked at the library with a little fear. It was bigger then she remembered, a lot bigger. The library seemed to be at least two stories higher, and at least one hundred meters longer, give or take.

"The spell which you seek is in the door at the end of the library, guarded by a spell that only a guardian can break, it is in that door that you will find the spell," Fury said as he turned to walk out of the library.

Twilight thought on it for a second before stopping the fiery maned alicorn. "Fury wait, if I don't get a chance to say it later, goodbye, and thank you for all that you will teach me in the future, I just hope that I will listen as good as I should and take your words to heart, and not just on parchment," Twilight said, as Fury stopped. He nodded before walking out of the library to find his friends and celebrate a well earned victory. Twilight took off the ground and flew towards the end of the library, and towards the door that held the answers to her problems in the future, and all hope of saving it.

a war like none other

Twilight flew across the massive library to a door locked tight, by chain and lock. The lock was golden in color and seemed to be made of a metal stronger than equestrian steel, and the chain that held the lock to the door was made of steel that seemed stronger than that of the lock. She looked the lock and chain up and down, looking for a weakness that could allow her to open the lock, but found none, the lock and chain were unbreakable by mere means, but Twilight had more than mere means on her side.

She called upon her alicorn magic and blasted the lock, but when the dust cleared, the lock remained. "Not even a dent, what kind of steel could withstand even alicorn magic?" Twilight asked herself aloud. The lock seemed to shine when she looked at it again, and the thought hit her that the steel was protected by magic beyond her own.

Twilight backtracked her thinking back to when fury was in the library a few moments ago, and to the words he said. "The door you seek is at the end of the library, locked by a spell that only guardian magic can break."

"That's it" Twilight thought as she looked at the spell surrounding the lock. "Guardian magic can break the lock," She said as she called upon the magic that had been given to her by the alicorn Fury Flight thousands of years in the future. She brought out the memory of meeting her friends that powered her guardian magic, and tried her spell again.

The magic struck the lock, and to her surprise, instead of breaking the lock, it unlocked and disappeared and the door opened up. The room that was inside the doorway was small, only holding one scroll. Twilight walked into the room slowly, feeling as though the silence was not to be disturbed inside. The silence was almost eerie, and had an ominous feeling to it. She walked to the end of the room where the scroll was placed honorably on a table that seemed to grow out of the floor. She picked the scroll up with her magic and felt a jolt go through her, as if the spell was protected by magic. The feeling disappeared as fast as it had come over her, and she turned to walk out of the room when she walked into a ghost of a pony, an alicorn, whose mane and tail were made out of Lightning.

"Twilight Sparkle," The alicorn whispered, "We have been waiting for you, to release us from Thanatos' grasp," it said, before disappearing.

Twilight gasped at the thought, that pony had been one of the five ponies that Thanatos had called from the past. Were they really wanting peace, and forced to fight, or was it a trick to make Twilight take pity on them. She thought on it for a second before walking out of the room and back into the world of the past, and prepared her magic to jump into her own time.

Her magic began to spark and crackle and her being was thrown into a black space as she traveled through thousands of years of equestrian history. She opened her eyes to see the blue eyes of Star Shadow looking at her with surprise.

"Hi Twilight, did you find what you were looking for?" Star Shadow asked as he helped Twilight up.

"Yes, but another mystery now is brought before me," Twilight said before turning to see where she had arrived at. She saw the castle of Ponyville, her castle, burning. The city had been destroyed and smoke was rising from the north.

Before Twilight could talk again however, she heard the sound of heavy hoof beats upon the ground, like the hammer striking the anvil. She turned to see the green alicorn walking towards her, a sword held in his magic.

"Before the rest of my brethren, I will smite you into your own castle, and finish what we started!!!" the old god said as he swung the sword at the purple alicorn that was before him.

Twilight dropped down to dodge the sword and rose up and called upon her magic and fired a spell at the god. The spell hit it's mark, but the god simply brushed off the effects. He then swung his sword again, and twilight brought up her shield to defend herself. The sword hit the shield, and shattered the shield and the sword. The old god looked at the hilt of his once great sword and dropped it. He then used his magic to pull his mace off of his back, and swung it, barely missing Twilight.

"I can't do this forever," Twilight thought as she dodged another blow from the mace. She could feel a deep magic beginning to boil inside her blood, and she decided to call upon the elemental magic that Fury had shown her in his later years. The very ground began to split and she controlled the rocks that arose from the ground. She then looked to the castle, and commanded the fire away from the walls and to her, where she made the fire into a rope and began to revolve it around her. The old god swung his mace and struck one of the rocks, but the mace blew out of his magic and flew away as the god began to back away from Twilight, who had called upon water from the stream that ran through Ponyville. The water came to her aid and like the fire, roped out and began to revolve around her. Smoke from around her began to form a sphere around her, but she commanded it to rope out and then the rest of the elements to spiral around each other and shot them towards the old god, who brought up a shield to protect him.

The Elements ran through the shield and the god screamed as they entered his heart, destroying the god. The body then caught fire as he fell, turning it into ash, which fell away like an autumn breeze.

Twilight's magic subsided as she watched the ashes of her opponent fall away, and sighed at the defeat of one of the six. She looked to where her enemy was, and now saw a ghostly image of him. Unlike before however, he was not in full battle armor, but in a robe of some sort, and had a look of peace on him.

"Thank you Twilight Sparkle, you have truly been a worthy opponent, and it was an honor to fall by your magic. I can now rest, never to see this world again and join my other brethren in the afterlife," The old god said before dissipating.

Twilight's thoughts had been confirmed, the old gods were fighting her as well as Thanatos, but why had he been glad to die at her magic. it was just one of the many questions that Twilight had and wanted to have answered, but it would have to wait.

She heard a yell and looked up at the sky to see an alicorn with a watery mane staring down with hatred at her.

"Ares dead, this cannot go unpunished!!" The god yelled as he called upon his own magic. Water from the stream and other bodies within a hundred miles. The massive wave of water joined it's master in the sky, and the god compressed the water and changed it into magic that he could use.

The god then brought the magic down upon Twilight, who called upon all of her magic to shield herself. The magic crashed upon her shield like a thousand waves upon the rocks, and then returned to the god. He brought the magic down again and again, and Twilight knew that she couldn't hold up against him forever, and began to think of a way out of it. The only possibility that came to her was to travel back in time, to regroup and regain her strength, even as her magic was still strong, the elemental magic took a lot out of her. She took down her shield as the god brought up all the magic for one final blast, to destroy her shield. She recited her time traveling spell and disappeared as the magic struck the ground, where she should of been. The god screamed in anger as his spell failed and then turned to return to a very unhappy Thanatos, who had just learned of Ares' death.

Twilight opened her eyes to See the blue eyes of Fury Flight again, but this time she was in a room that shown like gold, but had a sad feeling to it. She slowly rose to her feet and knew that Fury would want to know why she kept popping in and out like she was, and braced herself for telling him the truth, that she had failed in protecting equestria....

A Glorious, but sad past

Again Twilight looked into the blue eyes of Fury Flight, who looked at her with interest and a bit of concern. What Twilight didn't know was that she had burst into the room with her shield fully raised again and nearly laying on the floor to stop the blast that she was evading.

"Twilight," Fury Flight whispered as he held out a hoof to the purple alicorn. "Come with me to the other side of this room, we need to have a discussion," he said as he began to walk to the wall at the far side of the room, in which was a doorway that led down a hall. Twilight followed Fury down the hall to a room two doors down on the right side. As soon as she walked through the door, the door slammed shut behind her with the will of Fury's magic, and Twilight looked fearfully at the eyes of the demigod.

"Twilight, what is going on, this is the second time that you have sprung in on this time, and looked worse than the last, and do not feed me a line of shit," Fury said with a tint of anger in his voice.

"Ok," Twilight said, barely above a whisper. "I failed your only wish Fury, I failed to save the world, in fact, I helped destroy the world because I stepped back from the world because I lost my friends," she said again.

"Twilight, I have a feeling that this is bigger than that, there is a villain that the magic of the guardian can't defeat, or you wouldn't have came back in time to find a scroll to bring back the life giver and creator of harmony," Fury said with a straight face.

"It has to do with the old gods, before her time, and they have destroyed the world because I didn't take the time to watch artifacts and ensure their presence was never found like you would have," Twilight said as she began to snap, tears beginning to fall even though she tried to hold a straight face.

"Twilight, I have a confession to make, and I don't know what I will do in the future, but my past has been clear to me. I have been reckless and ruthless in my disputes, and arrogant in my demands to my friends. I have made poor decisions in the past, but that doesn't mean that it will destroy me now, and I have a feeling that it won't destroy me in the future," Fury said in a sad tone, before continuing his speech. "My greatest work was in the elements, but even that was mislead, we did what we did to save her, but she insisted that we used the jewels to save the world."

Twilight nodded before looking to the door. Her power was rushing back to her, and she had to get back to her own time, and hopefully she could open the portal when she got there. She felt a nudge on her shoulder and looked over to see a grey alicorn with black wings and red eyes looking directly into her eyes.

"Twilight Sparkle, before you attack me, please hear me out," Kaorn said politely. "My other half has been searching for you and I can't let him find you, but you have to know about the old gods. You will never defeat them without me, my good side anyhow. My chaotic power can reverse their destruction and destroy them."

Twilight's eyes were wide with fear, Kaorn had a good side, Fury had been right. She nodded in agreement with the great alicorn, and readied her magic. Before she disappeared into the time stream, she saw the look of understanding upon the face of Kaorn, like he was waiting for her to leave any second.

She arrived back in her own time to see nothing, nothing. The sky was black and without stars or a moon, and the ground was charred and burnt. In front of her was standing the five old gods, looking at her with looks of accomplishment. They began to laugh at her, and then their magic erupted forth and sprang towards her, but she teleported away, and then began to read the scroll that held the spell of her only hope. The spell was rather easy, all she had to do was take the elements out and then use the magic of a great alicorn to open the portal, a great alicorn or direct descendant of. Twilight's hope had just flitted away, and her ears sank down and her wings drooped. No, she thought as she began to cast the spell anyway.

Her magic crackled and sparked as she performed the magic on the scroll. The Elements began to shine and spin around faster and faster, until they were nothing but a glowing circle, about the size that a pony her size could walk through. Twilight watched in awe as an alicorn of pure white fur walked out of the elemental portal. She was around the size of Celestia, and had a red mane that was straight and a look of love that would've made Fluttershy jealous.

"Twilight Sparkle, it is great to see you again," The alicorn said as she walked into the world.

"What, we've never met before," Twilight said as she watched the alicorn with awe.

"Not face to face, but I was with you every time you wielded the Elements of Harmony, behind your magic, inside you and all of your friends, guiding you towards friendship and peace," The alicorn said as she walked upon the ground, cold and dead. As if upon que, grass and wildflowers began to grow where she stepped, creating a trail of life behind her. "What happened here?" She asked as she looked around with great sadness that made the flowers wilt, and a gentle rain begin.

"The old gods, they returned and destroyed our world, and it's all my fault," Twilight said as a tear left her cheek and traveled down to the ground.

The alicorn turned her attention away from the world, and focused on Twilight. "Whatever do you mean Twilight, you could not of seen the stones finding their way to the surface, and your magic wasn't strong enough to defeat them on your own, I am proud that you even made it this long, but every story has it's end," she said before walking up a hill where the old gods waited on the other side of.

"What do you mean, this isn't the end, it can't end like this, we have to...." Twilight said before tears cut her off.

"Every story has and end Twilight, some end good and some end bad, this story will have to end with the villains winning I'm afraid."

"No, it can't end like this, it can't," Twilight yelled, before teleporting to the front of the alicorn walking to her surrender.

The alicorn had tears in her eyes as she spoke. "And what would we do Twilight, harmony is dead, and the only way to bring it back would be too....... destroy the universe they created.."

"Then where is the spell, we can't let them win," Twilight wept.

The alicorn produced a scroll from her magic and giving it to Twilight. "Here is the spell Twilight, I think you might find it familiar, the spell called the constellation spell," She said as the spell transferred to Twilight's magic.

"The spell that Fury was going to use on Kaorn, but that only trapped them in the stars," Twilight said with a bit of confusion.

"And that is where you're wrong Twilight, the spell would of destroyed time, which is what would of happened it Kaorn would not of died," The alicorn said as she walked up the hill.

"I have to cast this spell, and it will destroy us all, and rewrite time," Twilight said with a little nervousness in her voice.

"No twilight, it will not, but if another would give their life and cast the spell, you could restart the great clock and the universe," The alicorn said as she took the spell back with her magic. "It has truly been an honor to have known you Twilight Sparkle, last of the great alicorns, and the last protector of Equestria," She said before Teleporting to the top of the hill.

"No, wait, come back.." Twilight yelled, but it was too late. she heard the explosion and seen the light as the spell took effect and shot out across the ground to meet the gods, who were too surprised to react with a shield.

The spell connected and time began to warp as the clock in the beyond stopped working. The black sky turned white as the rest of the world disappeared as the ponies disappeared from existence and there was only Twilight.

Twilight looked left, and looked right, but there was only white, no shadow, and nothing was holding her down, but yet she stayed on her hooves. There wasn't any air, but she could breathe, her ears hurt from the ear bleeding silence, and her fur was on fire even though it was freezing. Twilight began to recite the spell that would restart the universe. Her magic began to boil and she let her guardian magic take over and fed on the memories of her friends. The magic sprung forward and she felt the space she was in start to change, but it wasn't enough. Her friends had always been enough good memories to fuel her guardian magic to do what she needed, but this time called for a more powerful memory.

Twilight began to think hard about memories that could be strong enough to restart the universe, but only one kept popping back into her mind, the memory of love. The memory of kissing Star Shadow was great, it had been the first stallion she had kissed, and the feeling had sent her reeling. She let the memory guide and fuel her power, and she felt a strong magic she had never felt before. The universe sprang back to life as she continued her magic, weakening more and more, but she kept up her magic, watching as the world began to come into existence. She felt the last of her power leave her and she fell down, where soft grass caught her and comforted her as she began to pass into the next life.

Twilight opened her eyes to see the blue eyes of Star Shadow looking at her on a bed of some sort.

"Your in Canterlot, in the royal medical wing," Star Shadow said as he watched her reaction to being on a soft bed.

"I...... love....... you" Twilight made out barely over a whisper, in which Star Shadow seemed to jump a little. "It took a little while to see it, but I do, I only wish that I didn't have to go to Tartarus and back to see it."

"You.... You mean it Twilight..?" came Star Shadow's voice.

"I am going to die Star Shadow, why would I lie.."

"What Twilight, you can't die, we just saved you," Star Shadow said in a nearly frantic voice.

"It's ok Star Shadow, my life has been great, but the time of the alicorns is over, and my story has come to an end, but don't worry, even though my story is over, there are many more stories that are waiting to begin, but promise me this," Twilight said softly to the unicorn in front of him.

"Anything Twilight, anything," Star Shadow said.

"Be better to them than we were Star Shadow, be the king that this world deserves, and one more thing," Twilight said before choking. "I will wait for you on the shores of the beyond," she said before her last breath left her body and escaped the dying alicorn. Her eyes closed with the final sight of Star shadow, and a light from the medical wing. Her eyes opened to see the eyes of five ponies she had missed for a thousand years. She also seen the shores of a massive sea, a shore of white sand with an almost glass surface of the water in front of her.

"Twilight," came the voice of her former teacher and mentors, Fury Flight and Princess Celestia.
