Searching for the Truth

Ever since she was a little filly, Sunset Shimmer had always wondered why her family would abandon her. This made her resentful and bitter towards other ponies at least until she was adopted by Princess Celestia. Even though she has family and friends now, she wonders why she feels so empty.

But today she'll finally find the truth as she arrives at Canterlot.

Okay, Sunset you can do this, just ask her and I can get answers?

Sunset trotted towards her mothers private study with a grim look.

"Maybe I can ask her later and I'm pretty sure she's busy and...."

"Oh for the love of our mother! Just go in there and ask her already!" Her brother Spike shouted as he began to rub his head in irritation.

"Spike it's not easy for me to do this!" She argued, huffing at the young drake.

"Look I know you want to know the truth, but we've been standing in front of moms office for twenty minutes now! And you haven't moved and inch since we got here! All you have to do is open the door and ask her!" He said, folding his arms.

"It's like you're asking for me to set you on fire," She said with a glare.

"You wouldn't dare? I just bought this suit from Coco and I have a date with Moon Dancer," Spike said as he took a step back.

"Try me," she said with a smug look as a green aura formed around her horn as Spike began to take another step back.

"Well this is an unexpected surprise," both Sunset both turned to see the doors had been opened with Celestia standing at the entrance. "I wasn't expecting to see you so soon, Sunset and Spike. What brings you two here?"

"Sunset has something to ask you mom," Spike said aloud with grin, with Sunset mumbling something about throwing Spike out the window.
But Celestia ignored that and simply smiled.

"Sunset if something is troubling you than all you have to do is ask," She said as she wrapped a wing around her daughter. Sunset felt comfort as she nodded in agreement Soon both of them entered Celestia's study, leaving Spike outside alone.

"Guess this means I can head out on my date now," Spike said with a cheeky grin as he fixed his red bow tie and headed off to meet with Moon Dancer.

"So what is it you wanted to talk about, Sunset?" Celestia asked.

"Mom I've been meaning to ask you about..." Sunset struggled to get the words out.

"About?"

"I want to know who my parents were?" She said, gasping for air after finally getting those words out. She looked towards her mother who held a sorrowful look.

"Sunset are you sure you want know the truth?" She asked.

"I do...it's not because I'm not happy to have you and Spike, but I just need to know why they left me at the orphanage," Sunset answered, truthfully. "Please I just want to know?"

Celestia could only close her eyes as she turned away from her daughter. If she knew the truth would it hurt their relationship? Would she hate her? All of these questions whirled in Celestia's mind as she looked towards Sunset, who could only wait for her response. "Very well, Sunset I will tell you, but I want you to know that even after hearing the truth, I'll always love you as my daughter."

Sunset could only nod as she hugged her.

"You were born into the Shimmer family, a wealthy family that resided in the mountains far from Canterlot. Your father was one of my holy guards and one the strongest magic users during the third chaos uprising awhile back. He was honorable and well respected among his fellow soldiers, while your mother, a young pegasus, was medic during the time."

"Your parents also had son and named him Crimson Blaze. He was born a unicorn and was your older brother. Things seemed to go there way....until one fateful night a fire was started mysteriously and killed them. I don't know how, but somepony saved you and brought you to the orphanage. That is all I can tell Sunset....That's all I know," Celestia finished explaining. Sunset could only sit there shocked at the tale she was told.

"That can't be it! There's got to be more mom!" Sunset yelled, refusing to believe that was the whole story.

"I know you wish to know more, but that's all I know. You're story might not have a happy being, but see how things turned out for you. You have me, Spike, and your friends. You've accomplished so much and I couldn't be more proud of you," She said, wrapping her wing around her as they hugged each other.

"I know you are mom," Sunset replied as tears began to stream down her face.

"If you want to know more, Sunset than....I won't stop you," Celestia said, feeling tears stain her cheeks. Sunset had her full support and would still love her no matter what.

"Thank you,"

After learning so little of what happened, Sunset had returned to Ponyville a few hours later to prepare for the long journey to the mountains.

"Are we seriously going to the mountains?" Spike muttered under his breath.

"Yes we are Spike," Sunset answered, bluntly.

She didn't know how long it would be to get there and she was willing to prepare for anything that comes their way. The trip could take days, weeks, or even months...

"It's only a days travel if we take an airship or blimp," He replied.

"Fine, we can take an airship, but you'll be carrying our stuff," Spike could only groan response. He didn't know why his sister was acting so strange lately. "And you won't tell anypony about this...not even the girls."

"S-sure sis, I didn't say anything," He replied sheepishly, already upsetting Sunset.

"Spike what aren't you telling me?" She asked, raising a brow.

"Like I said, I didn't say anything because...."

Knock, Knock

Sunset opened the door to find Coco Pommel, Quickfix, and Nurse Redheart, standing outside the door.

"Hi Sunset!" They shouted in union.

"...they already know..hehehe," Spike chuckled as sweat began to form on his forehead.

"Hi...girls! Would you excuse us for just a moment please..." Sunset said, as she closed the door slowly.

"Huh? I wonder what's up with Sunset?" Quickfix asked, when all of a sudden they heard the young drake scream in terror.

"Oh-I hope he's okay..." Coco said.

The doors opened once again with a smile. "Alright girls you can come in now."

The girls were hesitant at first, but as they entered they found Spike encased in ice with a look of terror. The girls knew he pissed off Sunset and only shook their heads in shame as they took a seat on the sofa.

"So what exactly did Spike do to upset you, Sunset dear?" Redheart asked.

"Oh...it's nothing to worry about at the moment," She answered. "But this is actually the first time I used a freezing spell and it actually works pretty well."

"That must have taken a lot out of you," Coco stated, and she wasn't entirely wrong.

"I do admit that conjuring up this spell was a bit difficult, but I'm not disappointed in the results. I would have liked to set that suit of his on fire instead, but this is actually much better. Besides his punishment doesn't end there, he'll be doing extra work while we're on this trip," Sunset explained, tapping the ice with the tip of her hoof.

And he'll be doing a lot more when we get back.

"And speaking about trips. Why are heading to the mountains anyways? The mountains are freezing during the spring and rumors have it that some chaos cultists run those areas. So what's the reason?" Quickfix asked.

"It's none of your concern at the moment. It's just something personal and I want to keep it that way," Sunset said, avoiding eye contact.

"Well...whatever it is, Sunset we'll support you all the way," Coco said, grinning.

"Besides you'll need a nurse on this trip if one of you gets hurt," Redheart added.

"And a mechanic who can help repair any gear you have."

Sunset couldn't help, but smile at them. She was still trying to learn more about this friendship thing, but she doesn't regret it one bit.

You girls somehow always try to make me smile.

"Thanks girls!"

"Um...shouldn't you let Spike out of there now, He might catch a cold?" Coco asked

"I'm sure he's fine," Sunset said. "I'll let him out in a little bit, but you should all gear up. We're taking off in a small airship that I'll schedule to be here in an hour."

"Alright!" They all agreed as they exited the library, but what they failed to notice was that somepony was watching from the distance, near the Everfree Forest.

"It would seem that destiny was correct about you, Sunset. But will you be ready to face the truth?" The stranger said quietly as he disappeared within the trees.

The Journey Begins

"I'm- I'm going to...get you for this," Spike said, shuttering as sat down on a bench.

"Well you shouldn't have said anything, Spike. You knew that this was personal and you still went ahead and told them," Sunset said, still mad.

"Still I don't think freezing your brother is the best option Sunset," Quickfix said carrying an unusually large saddle bag, which caught Sunsets attention.

"You do know that it's only a days trip in an airship and that we're only staying up there for a night right? So why bring a large saddle bag? I know it's kinda chilly up there, but still." Sunset asked.

"Let's just say that this will save our butts if we run into trouble up there," She said with a smirk, as she trotted past Spike.

"Wonder when Redheart and Coco will get here?" Spike asked. "I've been meaning to talk to her about something."

"Don't even think about it Romeo!" Sunset said glaring at him.

"I wasn't thinking about it....much," He said quietly.

"Doesn't matter! But you do make a point. Where are they? The airship is scheduled to be here in five minutes," She said, pacing back and forth.

"Probably still packing, no doubt," Quickfix stated, bluntly.

They soon spotted both Redheart and Coco, running with saddlebags on there backs, while panting.

"Sorry we're late....Coco had to take...care of something," Redheart said.

"I had a few orders to fill in for Rarity," Coco said, panting.

"Well, just be glad that the airship hasn't shown up yet otherwise we would have left without you," Sunset said with a huff, as she watched for the airship to arrived.

After waiting for another five minutes what they saw next was truly astonishing.

"Oh wow!" They all said together as they looked towards a large golden airship fully equipped with landing beside them.

"This is amazing!" Spike said, standing up from the bench.

"No kidding," Sunset for her part was surprised at how large the airship was.

Mother definitely paid no expenses for this.

The doors opened, revealing two Pegasi dressed in cladded armor, awaiting for them to enter the airship. One of the guards walked towards them and removed his helmet, revealing a white Pegasus with a black mane and green eyes. "Princess Sunset, and guests, welcome to The Golden Aurora. I'm Sergeant Swift Wing and I'll be your escort for the trip. We ready to departure on your command Princess."

"We are ready to depart at once," Sunset commanded.

"Very well, Princess we'll have a staff member escort you to your rooms for the duration of the trip," Swift Wing said, as they escorted Sunset and her friends inside.

Once inside they began to look at there surroundings and all that could be said about the interior was that it was astounding the were painted red and decorated with small images of Celestia's banner, painted gold and that was only the walls. This was the first time they've been on an airship, but it was still incredible nonetheless. The halls were painted red and gold, and decorated with Canterlots finest furniture and vases.

"This is remarkable, it must have taken years to build this masterpiece," Sunset stated, as she looked around.

"It actually took me and the crew about two months to make this baby fly. Although that was about five years ago, and pray to Celestia that nothing terrible has happened to it," Swift Wing said, passing the princess.

"So this is five years old? Neat!" Spike said aloud.

"Could you possibly show us the flight deck?" Quickfix asked, with excitement, since she was obsessed with inventions.

"There will be time for that later, but for now I think it would be best if we take you too your quarters now," He said.

Everypony nodded in agreement as they followed Swift Wing to their guest rooms. Sunset was curious about Swift Wing for some odd reason, she couldn't quite put her hoof on it, but he didn't seem like the other guards she met before.

"Mr. Swift Wing how long have you been in the guard?" She asked.

"Please call me Swift, just adding the Mister makes me look like an old geezer hehehe....I've been a Sergeant for about three years now. Nothing impressive really," He answered.

"Hmm...very well let us carry on," Sunset said, causing suspicion among the others.

"As you wish Princess," He replied, leading them to the guest rooms once again.

It wasn't long until they had finally reached the guest rooms, considering that it was massive. "This room is for you Princess and your friends, as for Prince Spike he'll have the room down the hall on the right. Do call me or any of the staff if you need anything."

"Thank you," Coco said.

"Alright, now that's over what do you girls want to do?" Spike asked.

"Spike...if you don't mind. I'd like to speak to the girls alone," Sunset deadpanned, causing spike to slowly back out the room and close the door.

"So what did you want to talk about Sunset?" Redheart asked.

"I've been doing some research about the mountains and I've learned that someone or something is up there. From what I've gathered it was described as a Unicorn, with unusual powers and has been up there for months now," She explained.

"It's probably some chaos worshiper with some idiotic illusion spells. There's nothing to worry about Sunset, we promise," Quickfix said. Even though for once, Sunset was actually hoping she was right, but some part of her mind was nagging at her to cancel the trip or at least that she should go in alone.

"Still we should be cautious, even if it is another Chaos cultist, we should still be on our guard," Sunset stated, as she turned to the window.

It was than the sound of engines began to propel, as it begins to warm up. Swift Wing was on the main deck, with the other crew members as they turned on various switches, powering the ship.

"We are ready to depart at your command sir," A pilot Pegasus said.

Swift Wing nodded in response, giving the order for lift off, and without a second thought the pilot flipped a large switch which allowed the ship to lift off the ground, propelling at full force.

Deep within the mountains, hundreds of Nightmares Forces rallied together at an old ruin of a small castle for a secret meeting that was called by one of the leading Commanders of the Nightmare legions.

"Who do you think called this meeting?" One of them asked.

"No pony knows who, only that it was one of the leading commanders," another said.

Soon everybody ceased their whispers as a cloaked figure approached them, with a malicious grin and red smoke seeping out from his maw. Removing his cloak the figure revealed a blue unicorn with a light purple mane, and multiple scars across his face.

Everybody remained silent, waiting for the newcomer to speak.

"I am Commander Kunzite, one of the leading members of the Nightmare legions. I was sent here by one of our Generals to plan an attack on Princess Sunset Shimmer," Just saying her name caused an uproar of anger and hatred towards the princess and Kunzite smiled, barring his fangs.

"Today she was spotted, boarding an airship by one of my finest scouts," He said.

"Together we shall bring that spoiled brat to her knees and all of Equestria will bow before our queens might. Once the princess is killed, we shall commence with the invasion of Ponyville. We'll set out in three days when the moon full, so prepare yourselves my brothers and sisters, because soon Equestria shall be our for the taking," Kunzite said. Soon everypony began to cheer at his announcement. But they haven't realized that this was all a ploy for what his true intentions are. He left to his private chambers to consult with himself.

Fools! Do they honestly think I'm doing this for their beloved queen? For years I've done nothing, but serve that bloodsucking wench! Because of her it's been difficult for me to even maintain this form, but soon I'll obtain a power unlike any other, and all of Equestria shall bow before me.

"Commander Kunzite!" A cultist called out to him. "The assassin has returned."

"Excellent, send him in,"

The doors to his Chambers opened, revealing a unicorn wearing black armor and a black helmet concealing his face. Kunzite could only smirk as the assassin entered the chamber.

"The time is near..."

Ambushed

To Sunset it felt like an eternity as they journeyed closer to the mountains, she watched as the airship flew over small villages and she began to wonder if her family's home was like that? A Village, filled with ponies just like her. Intelligent, skilled in magic, and impressive. Her mother didn't give her details about her old home, but she was hoping it would be worth the trip.

It was than, her thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of knocking.

Knock, Knock

"Princess?" Swift Wing, called out.

"Oh....come in!" She said, turning back towards the window.

The doors began to open slowly as Swift Wing entered her room.

"Princess? The others have already arrived at the dinning hall and are wondering where you've been? Is something wrong?" He asked, bowing his head.

"I'll be there shortly," She said, hesitantly as she continued to look out the window. Even with the tone of her voice Swift Wing could tell that something was bothering her.

"Forgive me for speaking freely your majesty, but what is troubling you?" He asked, bowing his head.

Sunset didn't bother to acknowledge his question and continued look out the window. Swift Wing for his part, want to help his princess, since it was his duty as a guard. He trotted over to Sunset and sat beside her. "I would like to be alone right now sergeant."

"I know you want to be alone, but it's my duty as a guard to protect you and listen to your problems. So getting rid of me is pointless your highness, I'm stick beside you like glue," he explained, causing Sunset to chuckle.

"Thank you Sergeant Swift Wing, but I just need to be alone for a bit. I'll be there shortly, I just want to look at the view alone for a bit,"

"Very well your majesty, I'll respect your decision and please just call me Swift," he said as he was about to exit the room until he tripped on his own hooves and fell face first to the ground, causing the young princess to laugh out loud. "I...uh meant to do that."

"Sure you did, Sergeant Goofball," She joked, causing him to blush in embarrassment.

Swift Wing soon took his leave, still blushing as he headed towards the dinning hall with the others, leaving Sunset alone with her thoughts once again.

It was difficult for her, but she was beginning to see images of the fire from that night and a pony with blood red eyes and silver fangs glistening beneath the moonlight. It was difficult for her to grasp on to that memory on what happened that night. Even though she was a foal back than, she could still remember some images from her past.

I hope I can get some answers about these flashbacks.

Sunset felt that she had kept her friends waiting long enough and decided to make her way to the dinning hall, but she failed to notice the strange shadow lurking outside her window.

"The grub is pretty good here Sergeant Swift," Quickfix said as she began to devour an entire bowl of rice and cheese, both Coco and Redheart were disgusted by her table manners.

"Well it's been prep by our finest chefs," Swift stated.

"Ahh...Sunset, it's about time you arrived, Sergeant Swift Wing had his chefs prepare dinner for all of us," Redheart said, as Sunset entered the dinning room. She was still lost in thought, still wondering about her past.

"Sunset? Are you okay?" Coco asked.

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine just a bit tried is all," She lied, and Swift Wing knew it, but decided to keep his mouth shut knowing enraging the daughter of Celestia would be an unwise move. So he continued to eating his daisy noodle soup.

"Sunset if you aren't hungry than it's okay, you can head back to your room if you want," Spike suggested.

"No I'm fine Spike, but I am hungry. I'll just have the tomato soup please?" Sunset asked. Swift simply nodded and head towards the kitchen to have the chef prepare her meal.

"Now that it's just us, we've been wanting to know why you wanted to go to the mountains?" Quick Fix asked.

"It is...rather odd," Redheart said, with a questioning look.

"Sorry if we're prying into your business, but we're just worried about you," Coco added, shyly.

"Sunset, I think it's best for you to tell them why we're going in the first place," Spike said, placing his talons on her shoulder, as he gave a comforting smile.

Before she could even say anything, the airship began to shook, the alarm system began going off. Pegasi began passing by them in full armor. Everypony began wondering what was going on out there, why was the alarm going off?

Sunset pulled one of the rushing guards aside with her magic. "What's going on out there?"

"The ship is under attack, by Shadowbolts and strange Shadows in armor." The Pegasus said, rushing past her once again to join the battle.

"Did he say, Shadowbolts?!" Coco said, quivering behind Quick Fix.

"We must have wandered into one of Nightmare Moons territories, but why is it all the way out here in the mountains?" Sunset asked, but the ship shook again causing them to stumble and fall.

"I think we should worry more about what we're going to do first!" Spike shouted, earning a glare from Sunset as she got up on her hooves.

"Oh, shut up Spike, we need to find Swift Wing and get him to land this ship, otherwise we're finished," Sunset said as she trotted out of the dinning area in search for Swift Wing.

"Alright we better go after her, before she gets herself into trouble," Spike said, chasing after his sister.

"But aren't we safe here on the ship?" Redheart asked. " The Shadowbolts are outside and we're still safe inside since it's protected by a barrier."

"That doesn't mean they can't break through," he answered.

"Why can't we ever have safe, quiet adventures?" Coco asked.

"Than we wouldn't have any fun at all!" Quick Fix answered, following after the others. Coco was alone with nopony in the room. She groaned as she trotted after them.

"Oh, I hope this ends soon!"

After hearing the alarms, Swift Wing had immediately left the kitchen and headed outside with his weapons, and over a dozen troops.

Outside the airship dozens of Shadowbolts surrounded the airship, while shadow knights began boarding their airship, Swift Wing on the other hoof had a magic bow powered by electricity and began firing at the intruders. His Pegasi and Unicorns had either took flight to face the Shadowbolts or stood by his firing bolts of magic at the shadows that tried to plow through their defences with weapons.

"Hold your ground! We aren't letting one of those ghouls get close to these doors!" He ordered, firing an arrow of lightning at a nearby Shadowbolt.

As more knights fall, more would appear to take the place of the fallen one's. The sounds of blades clashing together and magic firing was all that could be heard in the air. Corpses of ponies from both sides had either fallen down to the very soil of Equestria or the airship. Most of Swift Wing's troops had fallen and the Shadow Knights numbers had increased as they closed in on their foes. Swift Wing fired three more arrows towards the ground that caused exploded on impact, creating a mass of smoke to conceal their location.

"Fall back!" Swift ordered. In doing so, what remained of his squad had begun to retreat inside.

Swift felt nothing but anger as he retreated inside, he had failed to push back the enemy forces and most of his troops had fallen and the Shadowbolts went after the engines. He knew that his airship wasn't going to make it and those Shadow Knights just kept on coming in bigger numbers.

Damn it! I can't believe I let this happened!

He began trotting down the long narrow halls of the airship, wandering why would they attack a single aircraft? Unless....

S*** they must have known she'd be here!

"Sunset slow down!" Spike shouted.

"No! We need to land this bucket of bolts before we end up ten feet under!" Sunset shouted back as she enter the control room. Another loud tremble shook the ship once again, but the ship itself began to tilt over as it began to pick up speed

"Why isn't anypony flying this thing!" She shouted, soon Spike and the girls entered the room.

"I think it's because it has a magic enhance autopilot," Quick Fix answered as she looked in awe.

Both Sunset and Quick Fix immediately headed towards the controls and began flipping switches and pressing buttons, trying to turn off the controls. Before they knew it two Shadow Knights crashed threw the walls, both wielding an axe and a mace.

"Sunset Shimmer~" They both said simultaneously.

Everypony became speechless, especially Sunset as she soon took a stance as her horn began to glow.

"It's so finally great meet you~"

"Who are you?" She asked.

"Just a soul trapped in another's body," they said.

"Huh?" They all said, confused.

"You see I'm not actually here, but rather waiting in the mountains for my other manifestations to bring your corpses, well except for you Sunset~" They answered.

The two Shadow Knights slowly approached Sunset, even though the ship was getting closer towards the mountains at an alarming rate.

"You are the key to conquering all of Equestria. I could care less about these ponies. The only one I need is you!"

Both Knights had rapidly appeared next to Sunset and took hold of her by her hooves. Using their magic to cut off the energy she had gathered. Without a moment to lose they shot a dark beam magic at the front of the vessel. Creating a massive hole that lead outside. Sunset struggled to escape their grasp, but they were too strong.

Spike hopped on one knights backs and began clawing at their faces.

"Let her go!" He shouted as he tore a piece of armour off only to be thrown to the side like a rag doll.

Redheart picked up a pipe and threw at one of their heads. The Knight turned to her direction and fired a beam of dark magic from its palm. Redheart jumped out of the way, before impact. Both Coco and Quick Fix immediately headed to her side, helping her to her hooves. Soon both Knights carried Sunset towards the opening and we're about to take off, only to be tackled by none other than Swift Wing.

Surprised, Sunset could only blush as he carried her away from the knights. Only to be chased by Shadowbolts. Swift Wing began to take evasive action as he flapped his wings with all he his might, but to no avail as they got closer to them.

"Can't you fly any faster?!" Sunset said, panicking.

"I'll have you....know that....I'm one of the fastest Pegasus in the military and if I wasn't busy trying to save than maybe we'd be outta here by now...." Before he could finish his back was shot by an unknown beam of magic.

On the mountains the black armored unicorn had only looked up at the sky and watched as both Sunset and Swift Wing went crashing down somewhere within the snowy mountains, near their territory. As for the airship it went crashing near his location.

"Hehehe....seems that I haven't lost my touched" he said.

Before he knew it, he was tackled by an unknown begin and went tumbling down hill of the snow. He jumped up to his hooves to find a unicorn dressed in crimson red armor, with two twin swords on his back.

"After all these years you finally decided to show up you son of a b****,"

"I think it's time we picked up where we left off seventeen years ago,"

Without a second thought both ponies charged at each other as both of their horns glowed, clashing into each other, creating a ripple of magic.

"Urgh.... is everpony okay?" Redheart asked.

"Yeah," Quick Fix answered as she helped Spike up.

"Coco where are you?" Spike called out, only to find her appear from the rubble unharmed.

"I'm....here," She answered.

"It looks like nopony got hurt, but that should be impossible, we shouldn't have even survived that crash?! How is that possible?!" She asked, trying to find a logical explanation, only to hear Quick Fix laugh out loud.
"And what's so funny?"

"Oh, it's nothing except for the fact that my invention saved our flanks!" She declared, lifting her saddle bag. "It has a built in magic barrier that was able to shield us from the crash. Of course the shield is damaged, but that's only one of it's main functions. It also has two large turret guns that are each powered by emeralds, which makes an excellent power source."

"That's amazing! If we weren't under attack I would just kiss you!" Spike said aloud, causing her to blush in embarrassment.

"Gosh, thanks," Redheart could only roll her eyes as Coco smiled at her two friends.

"Well now that mystery is solved, we still need to find out where Sunset and Sergeant Swift Wing landed," Redheart suggested.

"Um...but where do we look?" Coco asked.

"I don't know, but we should head up the mountain, find some shelter. Sunsets probably doing the same thing as we speak," Spike explained as he began heading up, girls took a quick glance at the wreckage before they began to follow after Spike, wandering why is this happening?

Don't worry Sunset were coming

"Ugh.... my head hurts" Sunset said, struggling to get her bearings as to where she was, only to find Swift Wing unconscious, with his back burnt from an unknown source.

"Swift, please get up we need to get outta here, now!" She said, shaking him. He began to stir as his eyes opened slightly.

"Thank my mother.... Swift we need to get going,"

"What happened?" He asked, rubbing his head as he got up slowly.

"You were hit by someponies magic, we were lucky I was able to put a shield spell over us before we crashed," She answered.

"Thanks.... but that's not going change the fact that I can't fly especially in this condition. My wings were damaged from that attack, so we're going to have to travel on hooves. At least until we find another means of transportation." Swift suggested as he rubbed the back of his wings.

"Well we better get going then," She said, trotting up the mountain as he looked on.

"Shouldn't we head downhill instead of up? It's a safer option, princess,"

"I didn't come all this way only to give up! We're going up hill and that's an order!"

Swift could only roll his eyes as he groaned. "As you wish your highness."

This is going to be a long day.

Shadows Approaching

"Commander? From what our scouts discovery, it would appear that the Princess had somehow survived the crash, along with the other element bearers,"

"Commander?"

There was no response as one of the Nightmare guards entered Kunzites chambers. All that could be seen was a shrine of old armor from an extinct race. Nopony appeared to be in the room....so he thought.

"Did you know that this shrine belonged to an ancient race thousands of years ago? From the description it says that it was made to be closer to their God's. I like that, the very thought of belief," Commander Kunzite's voice echoed throughout the room.

"Where are you, Commander?" The guard asked as he approached the shrine.

"That's not what you wanted ask me is it? I think your wondering why I have this here?" He asked, ignoring his question as the guard grabbed the handle of his sword while giving a light nod.

"You see before I was made a commander, I had a different life style. Far different from what you ponies had, and this here was all that remained of my former race." The guard looked confused as he searched his surroundings for any sign of stallion, speaking heresy against his beloved queen.

"You can blame those Night Generals for what they did to me, putting me in a pitiful body to help serve their so called queen. You could imagine my anger when I was forced to serve her. But one day I witnessed the power to make real change to this world. A power that could bring back what I used to have and now I have a second chance to take it for myself."

"YOU TRAITOR!!! Once Nightmare Moon and the other generals hear of your betrayal they'll have your head!"

But what he didn't notice was that two red eyes appeared behind as red smoke seeped out from them.

"Oh, I doubt that. After all, thanks to my associate I was able to regain my true form, but as for you and Nightmare Moon's legion and everypony in Equestria....they won't be here in this world for much longer," Kunzite said, as he clamped the guards mouth shut and twisted his neck.

'SNAP'

"The time of ponies are over!"

"The age of shadows is about to begin!"

All that could be heard was loud steps of metal moving within the darkness as red streaks was all that could be seen of the massive being. Soon the loud cackling of his voice echoed throughout the room.

"Where could those two be?" Spike asked.

"I'm thinking they're taking shelter somewhere, from the looks of it I'd say that a storm is closing in," Redheart mentioned, seeing the clouds slowly form overhead.

"Well the weather here is just as strange as the Everfree, but it feels like it's getting colder." Quick Fix said.

"I-I think I see a cave over there?" Coco shuttered, point at a nearby cave.

"Good eye, Coco I'll see if I can find something to get a fire going. You three stay in the cave and try to warm up if you can. I shouldn't be gone too long so hang on for a minute."

"Okay, Spike," Quick Fix said as she entered the cave with the others.

I better find Sunset before those creeps do.

Sunset and Swift began to travel up the mountain, without rest as the snow storm grew ever so closer to their location. They both knew that the storm would freeze them to death if they don't find shelter soon and with Swift's wings damaged he couldn't fly to search for a suitable place to rest.

"Princess, if we don't find shelter soon, than that storm is going to finish us off. We need to go back," he stated.

But Sunset wasn't about to give up so easily. "No, we can do this Swift, I've been through worst and I'm not going let some storm get in our way."

We've managed to make this far..... I have to at least see where I came from.

"Please, I need to see this, Swift?" She begged, and she wouldn't normally beg, but for some reason Swift was a different case.

"Alright, but if I see any signs of hypothermia or frostbite, we're getting outta here," Swift said, trying to avoid eye contact with the Princess. She couldn't help but smile as they both pressed on.

Swift was still unsure of why she wanted to head this far up to the mountains? Was she looking for ancient artifacts? A newly discovered plant that could help Equestria? Or was it something else? He couldn't put his hoof on it, but he was determined to find out the truth.

"Princess, is there any particular reason as to why you wanted to come all the way out here?" He asked.

"It's none of your business," She answered.

"I was only trying to help..."

"Well I don't need you to help with my own problems!" She shouted.

It was right than and there she slipped up. "So you do have a problem."

Sunset couldn't help but glare at him as her face turned slightly red. One thing was for sure is that once this was all over she was definitely going to set him on fire.

"Whatever, I'm still not going to tell you,"

"Fine how about we make a deal Princess?" He asked with a sly grin. Sunset could only raise a brow, intrigued by it somewhat.

"What sort of deal?"

"If I can find a place to stay before the storm rolls in, than you have to tell me the reason for all of this, but if I don't I won't bother you with it again."

"Hmm....tempting, but I'm going to need a little more than that, if you fail you'll have to be my personal maid for a month," She said with a devious grin that sent a shiver up his spine.

"You wouldn't?"

"Try me."

"Fine, deal, but we better get going. The last thing we need is to be caught in the storm." Swift said, motioning her to follow, but was unaware that elsewhere the black armored unicorn was tracking them down.
