Characters and the Mutiverse
"But Twilight, ah don't want to play some silly game for the rest of the day," Applejack stated as a very exasperated Twilight levitated her friend toward her library home, "and ah know that Rainbow will never do this, ever. So what's the point in drag'en me there if she's not gona be there?"
Twilight looked up at her friend, "Actually she's already there, along with the rest of the girls and Spike. We said that we would all play or that none of us would, don't you remember?"
"Ah remember but ah was so fried after that pinky party that ah would have agreed to try and do apple buck'en' season by myself again if ya asked me to." The orange earth pony kicked her legs again for the hundredth time trying to get out of the magic that had her trapped.
"I've told you before Applejack you can't defeat magic like that but anyway, I'm not letting you down.
You said you would come, are you really going to back out now? I mean, come on. What would Dash think?"
"Ah guess you're right sugarcube, I would be wrong to leave you galls hang'en as Dash would say." Applejack smiled at that and Twilight gave her a wondering look. "What, am ah not allowed to smile?"
"No, that's alright but, oh never mind," Twilight face hoofed and continued walking.
"Uhh, Twi?"
"Yes Applejack."
"Could ya let me down? Ah promise ah won't run off." Applejack smiled and a little halo appeared above her head.
"Not a chance, the last time you said that and I let you down it took me forever to find you again."
Applejack crossed her hooves, "Fine if ya won't let me down could ya at least tell meh what were gona be doing?"
"Did you not read the players hand book that I gave you? it tells you all the rules and how to make your character and all the things that you need."
"Twi, that book was big and ah had work to do. Ah didn't have time."
Twilight face hoofed for the second time that day. "Okay, I guess we'll do it the easy way."
"There's an easy way," said Applejack hopefully.
"Ya, so what do you want your character to be, there's fighters, monks, druids, mages, rouges, barbarians, sorceress and clerics."
Applejack looked uncertain, "Well ah like the sound of a fighter…."
"Kay, now what race do you want to be? There are humans, Halflings and…"
"Ah, just want to a regular pony. Kind of the way ah am."
"You can't be a pony. How about a human, they are kind of the regular race in the world."
"Well ok, if RD is doin' this ah might as well do it to. Say what did ya say this game was called?" Applejack looked apprehensive about entering the library. Like it was some sort of danger that she would like to avoid.
"It's called Dungeons and Dragons, now come on in and let's make your character. Oh, I'm so excited I could just bounce!"
"Ahh, Twi ya are bounce'en…"
Twilight checked herself. She had indeed been bouncing in circles around Applejack; she had also been drawing some strange looks from the ponies around the library. Twilight blushed and giggled a bit, "Sorry everypony. Let's go in AJ before these ponies think I'm completely insane. Twilight let go of AJ with her magic then Twilight opened the door for to let her in.
Applejack walked in in front of Twilight, she had no idea what to expect but she saw was almost normal for Twilights house. There were a bunch of books piled on a large table in the middle of her living room. The only difference was that gathered around the books was four ponies and a young dragon poring over them.
Rarity looked up from the book she was reading and looked at AJ and Twilight. "Oh, hello darling we have almost finished making our characters, do you know what you are going to be yet? I for one am human cleric, female of course.
Applejack looked at Twilight for help, "Applejack is going to be a female human fighter. She, like most of us are new so I think we should all be humans.
"Um Twilight, I'm not new." Every pony turned to face Rainbow Dash. Pinky Pie gasped as a comic dun dun dun sound came out of the air. Things like this tended to happen around Pinky so nopony questioned it. Twilight decided to ask the question on everypony's mind right now. "When the hay did you ever play D&D before rainbow?"
Rainbow Dash looked for once in her life like she would rather not be the center of attention at the time. "Well, it was a long time ago back in Cloudsdale's flight school, it doesn't really matter. Just don't tell anypony. Please!" Rainbow Dash was looking at them as if her life depended on them not telling that she played D&D in her past. It was the funniest thing they had ever seen. They were all rolling on the floor laughing when Spike finally put a stop to the madness.
"Hey girls if we don't get started we won't finish before midnight. So come on pull up a chair and let's get started. Applejack I had already made this for you, I'm lucky that it's the same as what you wanted. AJ took the four sheets of paper in her hooves and looked over them, "Twi, ah don't know what half this stuff means. How am ah supposed to play the game?"
Rainbow Dash gave AJ a big smile, "Don't worry AJ it'll be fine I'll help you out. It's not that hard once you get into it."
"Well, okay."
Pinky than piped up and said, "Hey Dashie, you never told us what you are. Come on spill the beans what are ya?"
"I'm a super cool half elf rouge, and I do it from behind." They all looked at Rainbow Dash, "oh, sorry that's kinda an inside joke. How about you Pinky, what are you?"
"I'm a big human barbarian woman with a hammer, BOOM! SMASH!" Pinky mimed out smashing things with what looked to be long stick of some sort what she just happen to have. "What are you Fluttershy?"
"Well, I am going to be a human druid, if that's all right with you guys of course."
Twilight spoke up again, "I am going to be a half elf mage, also I think we should start now Spike looks a little angry at us for talking so long."
"No, just a little stressed, I haven't been a DM for a long time. We should get started though, okay if you all will take your seats I will begin…"
"Okay, galls gather around...."
That night a certain being in the world was particularly strong and it wanted to do something cunning and sneaky with its power tonight and it had just the plan to sate its urges. It put all seven of the friends into a deep slumber and starting weaving a complex spell that would transfigure their shape and transport them into the world of the game they so enjoyed. It was early morning when the magic was done on their physical appearance. Then it opened a portal to another plane of existence and gently put the seven friends in the world of the game. It then chuckled quietly to itself, it had done its joke it was now time to watch the show. The being would rest till the seven woke, and then the real fun would begin. It closed the portal and drifted off into the chaos of its sweet dreams.
