Zeus, from Greek mythology finds his way to Equestria and has to save the mane six.
This is actually my English Class's final project but becuase I've put so much work into it and I've enjoyed writing about the ponies and Zeus, I wanted to share it with you guys. Zeus basically wants to take a day off and not take control for a day, but he ends up falling into Equestria. He can't go back without learning friendship so he tries to settle home. There are fights with Discord and he eventually heads back in this ride of adventure.
Everything was calm in Mount Olympus, except Zeus. He was stressed more than ever; with god-like emergencies to take care of and his wife was pregnant again with their 5th child. As he stood at his bedroom looking out the window, scratching his grey and lengthy beard, he pondered to himself what it would be like to live in a world where someone else was in control. Zeus then lifted up his muscular arm and held up his mirror looking at himself.
“God I’m old,” he stated, while pulling away his grey hair and looking more at the wrinkles lining up his face. At that time Hera dawdled into the room and looked at him puzzled.
“What are you doing?” she asked him while holding a basket full of grapes. He didn’t respond but looked at the bump in her stomach and then back at her. She then asked again,
“What are you doing?” He had her sit with him on the wool-like bed. There he explained what he felt.
“Don’t you ever feel stressed being the ruler of Olympus? The ruler of the gods? I feel so stressed out lately and I just want a day off.” He scuffed and looked at the ground as Hera wrapped her left arm around him and looked at him with a helping smile.
“I believe you do great, plus the gods respect you. What are you so worried about? If you left to take a break, they might get worried thinking you went missing. They depend on you Zeus.” Hera then kissed his cheek as he looked back at her.
“You’re right, but… I just wish I had a day to myself, a day to find something new.” Hera looked strangely at him as if this was something new that he hasn’t done before. He started to head out almost ignoring Hera’s response to his statement. When he was outside of the castle, Zeus immediately knew something was off. The old pond that Hermes was in when relaxing was gone. It was replaced with a mysterious multi-colored substance. It flowed rapidly, and made strange humming sounds. He walked a bit closer, out of curiosity and touched it. He felt a strange force pulling him and with that he fell into a portal that transported him into another world. He fell from the sky and into a lake. When Zeus crawled out of the lake, he couldn’t see the portal anymore. Zeus later started looking around and saw ponies everywhere. One of them, with a pink colored body, and a pink fluffy mane, almost like cotton candy, bounced up and down in front of him.
“Hi! I haven’t seen anything like you before! You’re cool! You’re tall! You don’t have a tail! I’m Pinkie Pie! What’s your name?” Even though this weird talking pony talked fast, Zeus was more surprised that the equine was able to speak. He was not able to speak or even have a reaction for the most part as he was froze, stunned, and bamboozled at this rare occurrence. The pink pony looked puzzled. She turned her head a bit and then grabbed his face with her hooves.
He looked at her and then said, “You can talk!?”
Pinkie Pie giggled, “Well of course I can! We all can!” she said very happily, seeming like she was an always happy person...or pony. She perked her ears up and looks in the distance as another pony came flying over. Her mane was a rainbow of colors and she had a cyan colored body.
“Dashie! Do you know what type of animal this is?” Pinkie said as she pointed at Zeus. The rainbow pony had wings and was hovering over the pink pony.
“You’re a pegasus?” Zeus inquired as he looked at the rainbow colored pony.
“Haha, never seen one before? But really, what kind of animal are you? are you a SPY??” the pony said as she gave Zeus a stern look. Zeus was about to make a response, but was interrupted when thunder struck. The ponies jumped then ran off, without giving him a chance to really say his name.
The rain poured, as he continued walking to find anywhere where he could sleep. As he was walking, he saw a tree that was turned into a house. Questioning himself, “A tree house?” He knocked on the door to meet a purple unicorn with a darker purple with a bit of red mixed into her mane.
“Hello? Could I help you? It’s dark out and I was about to go to sleep” the purple pony said wearily, and unable to really keep her eyes open.
“Could I come in for the night? I demand a place to sleep.” Zeus said semi-casually and semi-angrily at the pony who wasn’t scared of what he looked like.
“Well.. you could’ve asked… Spike is out with the cutie mark crusaders for a sleepover so there is a spare bed upstairs” without any time for response, the pony left and headed upstairs to sleep. Zeus looked around the home, it was filled with books and looked like a very well built library. He rested on the very short and hard bed which was very hard to get comfortable in.
When Zeus awoke, his body was sore from the bed, and there was a very small dragon looking at him very mad. “What are you? Why are you here? and what are you doing?” he sounded very young and pissed.
“I’m Zeus, god of thunder and the king of gods” he roared as he stood up to see how tiny this dragon was.
“Spike! Spike?” the purple pony came in searching for the dragon and smiled when she saw the dragon talking to the weird creature, “There you are Spike. By the way, I never got your name or what creature you were.” The purple pony cradled the dragon with her hooves and looked at Zeus awaiting a response.
“I’m Zeus, king of gods, and god of thunder.” he responded a little more worried that ponies didn’t know who he was.
“God? God of thunder? I don’t know much about that other than that the pegasi here in Equestria control the weather and seasons, also I’m Twilight Sparkle.” she responded with almost a lecturing tone.
As they started to head outside, they noticed something was off, very off. Houses were floating, upside down, and the streets were colored purple with salt-like ice spread across it. The day and night both only lasted 15 minutes each. Looking over to the left with more of the houses on the ground there was a pony being salted with a giant pepper shaker. When the pony sneezed, the houses toppled over like billboards. A sudden laugh was heard, an eerie one at that. The creature was long and thin, and very strange looking. He had a head of a pony with two different types of moose horns. He had a dragon tail, and also had an eagle claw and a bear paw. This creature also had a bat’s wing and a bird’s wing. For his back legs, he had a dragon leg and a cloven hoof.
“Discord!” Twilight growled at him.
“Oh Twilight! It’s nice to see you met another creature? a human? precisely what magic spell did you fail to use this time?” Discord gleemed. “I do so hope you enjoy what I’ve done with the place” he simply floated wrapping his slithery body around Zeus. “You don’t belong here you sly being” Discord whispered. As Discord tried to tighten the grasp, Zeus grabbed hold of him and threw the being far out while summoning a lightning bolt which hit him on one of his wings.
“Twilight!” a white colored pony with a purple mane galloped along to see Twilight and Zeus. “What in Equestria is that thing! He has got by far the worst taste of fashion!” the pony had a disgusted look on her face as she looked at the being.
“I’ll explain later Rarity, we need to make sure Fluttershy is ok!” Twilight quickly started running west to Fluttershy’s cottage with Rarity and Zeus following right behind.
When they approached the place, it was already floating and flippin in place in mid air. The ponies gasped as they heard screaming and crashing from inside. Zeus took it upon himself to jump up there and bring the house down with his brute strength. When they all walked in, they saw Fluttershy crying, she was a yellow pegasus with a bright pink mane. She was mourning over one of her mouse friends who was crushed by the living room couch. The insides were strewn around the place and the fur of the dead body was drenched in its own blood. The eyes, popping out of their sockets and the mouth full open for the tongue to lay flat and dead.
“Oh poor...poor mousie…” when she spoke, she was soft, silent, but she was also very sad with the death of her animal friend. Judging by her cutie mark on her hind legs, she must’ve been an animal caretaker. Twilight did explain a few pony basics while Zeus woke up that morning. Then after a bit of running and panting, an orange pony with a yellow mane walked in. She had a cowboy hat, maybe she was a farmer?
“Applejack! Wait up!” the rainbow pony flew in with Pinkie bouncing in. The rest of the ponies gasped at the scene, except Zeus, who had seen much worse deaths before.
“Rainbow Dash? How’s the weather so far?” Twilight inquired while trying to change the subject.
“Nothing but cotton candy clouds” growled the now angry Rainbow Dash.
“Oh! Oh! And chocolate rain!” Pinkie said while she bounced happily.
“Come on girls, let’s head to my house to form out a plan!” Twilight said as she was eager and ready to fight back.
When they were in the home, Zeus was in the corner trying to understand what they were talking about. They talked about previous outbreaks, elements of harmony, magic of friendship, and many other strange things. When they were about done, they looked over at Zeus who was a little zoned out.
“Well Zeus, what do you say? Will you help us out?” Twilight asked.
“Me help you? Can’t you just use that magic stuff that comes from unicorns or fly kick him with the pegasi?” He was trying to get out of helping since he had no interest. With that, he stood up and looked at them, “I’ve seen you do magic before along with a few other unicorns I saw, I’m pretty sure you’ve got this under control.” As he started to leave, the Mane Six got disappointed, they knew that without Zeus’s power, they were pretty much hopeless.
It was a little late out with some drizzle of rain, and without Twilight, he had nowhere to stay. He figured that he would just fall asleep in a pile of rocks somewhere, or in a creek. Some time later, as he was just sitting on a mountain right outside of Ponyville, watching unicorns use their magic to make things appear, or levitate, or form into new thing. As the sun set and the moon rose, he found an old cave that was abandoned, so that was where he rested. When he slept, he could hear an evil laugh around him. He looked up only to see Discord holding a sledgehammer right above his head. Zeus didn’t want this to happen, so he quickly rolled over as the hammer slammed into the ground, vibrating dust and rocks around the area. Zeus stood up and glared at the creature, who was covered in the darkness of the cavern. Zeus grabbed some stones and started tossing some at him.
“You evil pathetic being!” he was angry, very angry, “Why choose me? you want Equestria not me!”
“Oh but you, are like me. You’re different and confused. Come, join me and rule over Equestria.” Discord said trying to form an agreement. He said nothing and just left the cavern, and followed the train path.
Twenty minutes go by, as he has followed the train tracks to find a higher, richer town. In this town, ponies were more sophisticated and more...fancy. He found himself in the castle.
“Welcome to Canterlot Castle, how might I help you?” a guard said as he shined his flashlight on Zeus.
“I’m here to meet whoever is in charge of this country” Zeus responded with a almost-tired-like tone.
“Right this way” the guard simply pursued one direction as Zeus followed. When he entered the room the pony who greeted him was at his eye-level. She was different from other ponies, with her long wings and horn. She was both a pegasus and a unicorn. She also had a slim body and thinner legs. Her mane was flowing and it was almost multicolored except for the fact that it was much lighter than Rainbow Dash’s. Her body was also a white color with her armor plates for being a princess.
“Hello, Zeus, I’m glad you could make it.” the pony said as she smiled at Zeus.
“How do you know me?” he asked very surprised.
“Ask not why I know you, what do you want to ask me dear Zeus, king of the gods.” she said offering him to come in.
He walked in and asked her what he wanted to know, “How did I get here? How do I return home?” Zeus asked worried she might not have an answer.
“Dear Zeus, you are worried about the conclusion more than what you have to do to achieve it. Six ponies, offering you friendship, you turned down. Earn it and you shall know what true friendship is.” she said as she looked over her balcony to see the sleeping ponies.
“You want me to make friends with ponies!?” Zeus thought this was completely abnormal.
“If you don’t want to, then maybe you should find someplace to live. Since you’ll be here for quite a while.” she said as she guided him out of the castle. The doors closed and he started to head off to a small town between Canterlot and Ponyville.
He knocked on a door of one of the homes and a pony opened it still sleepy.
“May I help you?” they asked.
“I want a place to stay, and you’ll do as I say ok?” Zeus said with an almost booming voice. The pony he was talking to almost immediately slammed the door on him and he continued walking in the usual direction. House after house, door after door, not a single door would let him in. He almost gave up until one old elderly pony opened up the door and allowed him inside. When he walked passed, the elderly pony gave that sly grin, which was all too familiar to him. She locked the door and then transformed into Discord. Zeus was too sleepy to really fight off his attacks, so when Discord put him in a chair with ropes he didn’t do much but fall asleep after a bit. Discord found this very odd but left the rest of the doors locked and teleported out to destroy Equestria with him out of the way.
When Zeus woke up, he used his godly strength to break free of the ropes and looked for a way out. The front door was locked, so he used his brute strength to bust a hole in the door, but something was strange. He was being pulled back, the ropes he broke came alive and pulled him back. He struggled to get out but finally broke free and escaped. He headed to a cliffside and laid there watching Ponyville. Zeus couldn’t see the ponies very well but he saw the troubles Ponyville was going through. He kept thinking about what the princess said, and about the Mane Six. Then, he thought about his home, thinking about what they were doing without him. He took a short nap before realizing what he needed to do. He got up and started heading towards Ponyville.
It took him about ten to twenty minutes before he arrived at Ponyville, but when he got there, he was more angry at Discord than ever. He was holding the six ponies in a cage, and they were screaming for help, and Discord was about to crush the cage before he saw Zeus.
“Unhand them you monster!” Zeus boomed.
Discord set down the rock and laughed, “You think calling me a monster will help you save your precious friends? I knew you would escape from that house, but it was enough time for me to capture them. You see, with their power and yours, you’d be pretty much unstoppable. So I had to capture them to make sure I have a better chance of seizing Ponyville to myself!” Zeus started running towards him and when he threw a punch, Discord dodged and summoned ice below Zeus so that he slipped and fell.
“If you can’t keep your ground, then why would I be bothered to fight someone like you?” he asked almost laughing again. Zeus got angry again and attempted the same move with the same outcome. Then when he got up, he jumped up on the cage and lashed a thunderbolt at him. The bolt, too quick for Discord to move, hit his bird wing and he stopped hovering.
“Good, now we’re playing fair” Zeus grinned as he knew Discord wouldn’t be able to move as quickly anymore. He tried running towards him again but Discord stopped him, then he summoned a sword for them both and handed one to him.
“Go on warrior, show me what you got.” Discord was serious this time, almost begging to be slaughtered by Zeus.
Even though Zeus had not wielded a weapon as much, he knew more of the basics for fighting. They fought for a while, swords clanging, and at one point their swords meet in the center, and are held together as both Zeus and Discord tried to push the other back. Discord then used his other wing as his advantage and pushed his sword across which ended up cutting down the underside of Zeus’s arm sending blood flying everywhere. Zeus screamed in pain. Though, he was too naive; when he reached down to grab it, Discord slammed his sword down the middle of his spine through his chest, the sword went all the way through. The skin was pushed out then tore, in a popping motion and the blood splattered around the ground. Zeus, screaming in pain knocked the sword out and stumbled to the rock, where he fell and laid against it, panting and holding his chest trying to stop the blood flow. Discord came charging towards him again, but Zeus slid across one side and the sword clanked, bounced out of his hands and fell to the ground. Zeus then took the advantage to break the cage open with the boulder and took the Mane Six with him as he ran. He ran far into the outskirts of Ponyville. Discord let him go, he knew he would die sooner or later, he’d just have to catch them. It was easy to follow their path as well since he was dripping blood the whole way.
“Zeus! Are you ok?” asked Twilight as they were running.
“Zeus? Darling? Are you ok?” asked Rarity.
“Zeusy!” Pinkie Pie got a little worried.
“Oh dear, is he going to be ok?” Fluttershy said softly.
“Sugarcube, he’ll be fine” Applejack assured the other three.
“Yeah..I’ll be fine…” Zeus weakly said. Rainbow then pushed him slightly to the left which had them go down another path heading towards the Everfree Forest.
When they were there for a bit, they reach another tree house. They knocked on the door, and a Zebra walked out with a cup of tea in hoof. She almost spat out her drink when seeing the injured being.
“Quickly, come into my hut, we’ll fix you up and you’ll be back on your foot.” the zebra talked mostly in rhymes.
“Zecora, now is no time for rhymes, what can you do to help him?” Rainbow was a little upset with the situation.
“Right, right, stop your jabbering, this is no time for frighting.” Zecora lead them into the hut with Zeus sitting on a bench where she could focus on his wounds. “The fight against Discord, it didn’t puncture any valuable cords.” Zecora assured him.
“Will he be alright? Discord is only going to get stronger!” Twilight was getting more worried than the rest.
“He will be fine, I’ll make him shine.” Zecora started stitching up the outside as she gave him a drink to help soothe the pain.
Right as she was done and he was resting in a bed, the door burst open as lighting stuck right behind the creature who wanted revenge.
“Oh, I’m so sure you did miss me my little ponies!” Discord had a very suspicious tone with an evil laugh behind it.
“Discord!” the six ponies said together.
Discord smiled evilly as he saw them. Rainbow flew over and charged at him, but Discord evaded and threw Rainbow into a cage with her wings gone and they hung outside the cage. Rainbow growled at him, banging at the cage walls trying to escape. Rarity then got some of her sewing needles and threw a bunch which all lodged along inside his torso. He didn’t feel as much pain, though he put her into the cage as well with her horn gone and it landed outside the cage. Applejack appeared in the rear and bucked her back legs towards him which caused him to topple over. With this Fluttershy helped Pinkie with the ropes to tie him down and Twilight started a magic spell which would paralyze him forever. Right before it could happen, Fluttershy got startled when she bumped into something and dropped the rope, which allowed Discord to roll to his side avoiding the spell. Discord then grabbed Fluttershy and threw her towards the cage with the same outcome as Rainbowdash, with her wings gone. Fluttershy cowered to the back of the back cage. Applejack was about to buck again before he tied her to the ceiling hanging upside down. Twilight was the last one left, she summoned another spell and tried shooting at him, but Discord evaded again.
At this time, hope was lost for the six ponies and Zecora was busy hiding during this whole fight. Zeus woke up to Discord strangling the ponies, their horns and wings missing and they were losing breath fast. Zeus was still weak and unable to walk as easily, but he wobbled over and gave Discord a hefty punch to the face which caused him to drop the ponies. Zeus was weak and wasn’t able to use as much strength or use his lightning. The ponies without wings or horns were also weak. They all thought that it was the end, and it was over. Discord got ready with a spell of his own and charged it up. Zeus saw this as his chance and got in front of the ponies to protect them, he wasn’t going to let useless ponies die to this creature with an abnormal level of power. He knew he wouldn’t be able to return home or see his wife again, so he thought the best way to die was to die protecting creatures whom have taken care of him while he was here.
He opened his eyes and saw a purple field around them. It had the colors of the ponies, but another color as well. The seventh color was the same as his skin. He knew Twilight couldn’t be casting this spell since she didn’t have her horn, nor Rarity. The ponies were in their fighting stance and looking at Discord, so Zeus did the same, hoping this barrier, whatever it was, would hold off the attack. When the attack hit, it deflected entirely and it hit Discord. The spell that hit him in the end made him weaker and older. He aged very quickly, much more quicker than the normal age rate. His beard grew out and back, wrinkles appeared, and he slowly crippled until he fell down and died of age. The ponies all cheered with their victory and Equestria returned to normal with their wings and horns back. The barrier disappears and Zeus felt a bit stronger. Zecora came out and picked up the body ready to burn it to get rid of the creature forever. get rid of the creature forever.
The ponies and Zeus walked back to Ponyville as they talked.
“So what exactly happened back there?” Zeus inquired out of confusion.
“The magic that surrounded us and helped us? That was the magic of friendship.” Twilight said happily. They got there and saw the other ponies cheering for them as well. All the houses were put back onto the ground, the roads and pathways were turned back to gravel like they used to be.
“Twilight Sparkle, I see you’ve done well” the tall princess pony flew down with her sister in the carriage. Her sister was a bit shorter than her, she was blue and had a darker blue mane with stars that also flowed.
“Princess Celestia!” Twilight was glad to see her after this long adventure.
“My faithful student Twilight, what new things have you learned in friendship today?” Celestia smiled.
“I’ve learned that friendship can happen with any kind of creature even if they aren’t ponies. With the help of Zeus, we’ve stopped Discord once and for all.” said Twilight.
Celestia looked over at Zeus and tried to get him to remember their old conversation. She then walked off the carriage with her sister and they looked at each other, talking about something for a bit.
She looked at Discord finally and said, “Since you’ve learned of friendship, we can turn you into a pony to help you live easier in this world of ours, or we can send you back to your real home and close the portal between us forever.” Zeus thought about it for a bit while looking at the other ponies who would be a bit sad if he left.
“I..should really head back to my world, the other gods need me.” Zeus said, a bit sad himself.
“A good choice, are you ready Luna?” Celestia looked at her sister who nodded and they position themselves on either side of Zeus. They used their magic and a white flash occurred.
Zeus awoke on his bed, the room was just the way he left it. The basket of grapes was now dry and he heard crying. He walked out to see Hera crying over his chest plate.
“Hera?” Zeus tried to get her attention.
“Zeus! You’re back! You’ve been gone for 5 weeks!” She held him and cried some more. Zeus was a little surprised since he was only gone 5 days in the pony world. Hermes then walked in looking at him in surprise.
“You’ve been gone for so long, you’re lucky the gods were able to maintain themselves for the time being.” he said. “Now tell us Zeus, where were you?” Hermes folded his arms waiting for a response.
Zeus then began telling the story about the talking ponies and their magic, wings, and how they lived. He talked about a creature who was out to kill them and how he got his injury. Hermes and Hera started laughing.
“Crazy imagination Zeus, but that’s never going to happen, ever.” Hermes said as he started to leave. “I thought you were gone, but I didn’t think you have gone insane.” Hera said as she left as well.
The portal to the pony world has been closed ever since, or that's what they think.
