Rarity is a post op transmare, but she still keeps her transsexual status a secret.

Ponyville hosts its very own transgender pride festival, but Rarity still feels that the residents weren't as accepting as they claim to be. She goes to the festival as an ally and plans to tell her friends later, but her plans don't work out.

The Pride Festival

Ponyville was covered in flags of blue, pink, and white in preparation for a pride festival. The festival was meant to promote transgender equality, but a lot of ponies were still closed minded. Equestria was not safe for transponies, especially those who never had surgery. Many of them stayed in the closet. Some even stayed hidden after transitioning.

Rarity was lucky to have transitioned when she was still young. The foals never learned about hate yet. They knew the concept of gender, but they were still too young to find Rarity announcing that she was a filly anything out of the ordinary.

None of the ponies knew she was a transsexual mare, not even her friends. The hormone blockers and estrogen helped her pass very well. Even before she had surgery, her penis remained in its sheath. They had to really look to know the truth, and everypony knew it was wrong to look at certain areas of a pony. She got surgery in her teen years, however.

Rarity was ready to attend the festival. She decided to disguise herself as an ally, though. Even if she came out during the festival, her safety would be at risk. She decided to wear one of her finest dresses and took extra care to make sure her mane was perfect.

After she was finished getting ready, she left to search for her friends. She didn't need to look far because Pinkie Pie popped up out of nowhere and dragged her to the town hall where her friends, as well as a large crowd of other ponies, stood.

She stood next to Applejack who had a transgender flag pinned on her hat. Rainbow Dash, who stood on the other side of Applejack, held a flag with stripes of pink, white, purple, black, and blue. Scootaloo stood on her back wearing a hat with a mars symbol. Fluttershy stood next to Rainbow Dash. Angel, who was on her back, waved a transgender flag. Beside her was Twilight. Twilight decided to paint her face the colors of the transgender flag to match Pinkie Pie, who stood next to her, or more accurately, excitedly danced in place.

“I can't wait!” Pinkie shouted excitedly.

The other six glanced at her and turned their gaze back to the stand Mayor Mare was on. Rainbow Dash replied, though, “Neither can I! After Scoots told me he's FtM, I told him that I'm gender fluid! We are tight, now!”

“You're gender fluid?” Rarity asked, shocked.

Rainbow Dash nodded, “Yep. Right now, I identify as male. I sometimes identify as female, and there are times that I don't even identify either way. Not quite mare, not quite colt.”

Rarity nodded. She knew she would be safe with Rainbow Dash. It didn't change her decision on remaining hidden, though. Rainbow was strong and could handle almost anything. If something were to happen to her, she would still defend him, her, or hir, though. She was proud of Scootaloo for taking the first step at an early age. While it wasn't as early as when Rarity did so, it was still early.

After what felt like hours of excitement, Mayor Mare finally spoke, “Fillies, gentle colts, and everypony else, welcome to the transgender pride festival. Two hundred years ago, a large group of transgender ponies were murdered in Canterlot. Since that day, we held a festival as a reminder of that day.”
Rarity drowned out what the Mayor was saying. She heard that speech every year, and unlike the other ponies, she didn't believe a word she said. While there was a mass murder on Transponies two hundred years ago, most ponies didn't really care about them. Mayor Mare never included the gender non-binary ponies in any other speech. She wasn't exactly transphobic, but she wasn't an ally either. Nevertheless, she loved attending the festival because it gave her a sense of belonging. She was reminded that she wasn't alone in her struggles, and that alone encouraged her to continue attending the pride parades.

After the long speech, it was time to start the actual parade. Rarity loved walking down the streets with other ponies, transgender or ally. She felt excited to take part in a parade celebrating her community. It may have been in memory of a mass murder, but it was still a pride parade nonetheless. She walked with her friends to the streets of Ponyville and walked with a large crowd of other ponies.

The entire walk around Ponyville was filled with cheers and music. Large flags were carried throughout the parade. Transgender, gender queer, gender fluid, and agender. Other than that, the parade itself was uneventful.

After the parade, Rarity talked with other ponies, many of whom were transgender. She remained stealth as she planned on doing. She congratulated on their courage for coming out, especially after knowing the dangers. She wanted to come out eventually, but she wasn't ready yet. She stayed out socializing until the sun started to set. The other ponies returned to their homes, and so did she. She got out of her dress and took a shower. Then she brushed her teeth and went straight to bed.

The next day, Rarity met with her friends at Sugar Cube Corners. A few transgender flags still littered the grounds outside, but most of the stuff from the parade has been cleaned up. Rarity sat between Pinkie Pie and Twilight. Pinkie pushed a sundae in front of Rarity, and she accepted it levitating a spoon full to her mouth.

“The Cakes are gone for the day, so I'm running this place all by myself,” Pinkie announced. Rarity looked behind her to check if there were any customers. There were not. Pinkie continued, “It's been very slow, but I imagine the ponies got filled from the sweets yesterday.”

The others nodded in understanding. Rarity glanced at Rainbow Dash who was no different from normal. “Rainbow, do you go by different names while you are identifying as other gender?”

Rainbow Dash shook her head, “No. I'm always Rainbow Dash. I think it's pretty gender neutral. I may be gender fluid, but I will always be awesome! I don't want you to treat me any differently.”

“I will not,” Rarity agreed. She made a mental note to tell Rainbow Dash later when she was alone. She was still curious about Scootaloo, though, “Is Scootaloo seeing a gender therapist?”

Rainbow nodded, “He has a consultation on Monday.” Rarity smiled in response.

Pinkie Pie took a deep breath in and said, “I know you're pretending to be just an ally and stuff, Rarity, but you seem to know a lot more about transitioning than other ponies,” Rarity's eyes grew wide. Pinkie found out. She continued, “You may have fooled everypony else, but you can't fool me! I knew all along, but I didn't say anything.” Rarity glared at her. “Maybe I shouldn't have said anything yet.” Pinkie awkwardly grinned an sat back in her seat.

“Pinkie, that's not cool!” Rainbow scolded.

Pinkie mouthed, “Sorry.”

Rainbow didn't accept it, though, “Imagine if you were to out her in front of ponies who weren't accepting! That's dangerous, and you know it!”

“It's alright, Rainbow. She didn't mean to,” Rarity said defending Pinkie. She didn't condone what she did, but she forgave her.

Rainbow Dash sat back in her chair. Rarity smiled and continued eating her sundae. Her plan to tell Rainbow Dash in private didn't go very well. She was going to tell her friends later, but that part just came earlier than it meant to.

“I had no idea that two of us are transgender!” Twilight announced.

Pinkie exclaimed, “I'm pansexual!”

“What's pansexual?” Fluttershy asked. She hid her face with her wings in fear that she asked a stupid question.

“Pansexual is where you are attracted to other ponies without gender even being a concern,” Applejack explained, “It's different from being bisexual because while bisexuals may love mares and stallions in different ways, pansexuals don't use gender as a factor.”

Fluttershy showed her face again. She smiled acknowledging that she understood. The ponies finished their sundaes but remained in their chairs. None of them had anything they needed to do.

Applejack looked at Rarity, “I'm assuming you're a transmare?”

Rarity nodded, “Yes. I transitioned at a very early age, long before I got my cutie mark.”

“How did your parents react when they found out?” Twilight asked.

Rainbow Dash interjected, “I got interviewed, too.”

Rarity answered, “They were rather accepting; however, my father was quite disappointed that he would not have a son to play hoofball with. My gender therapist explained to him that I would most likely not be interested in hoofball nor any sport regardless if I transitioned or not.”

“What is your birth name?” Fluttershy asked.

Rarity glared sternly at Fluttershy. She knew Fluttershy never meant to be rude. Ponies weren't taught about which questions were to ask a transgender pony and which questions to avoid. “I refuse to answer,” she replied.

Pinkie put her hoof up to stop the questions, “Never ask a transpony their birth name, what sex organs they have, nor how they have sex. Refer to them as the name they want you to refer to them as, and use the pronouns they want you to use.”

Rarity and Rainbow Dash nodded simultaneously.

“Also, never out a transpony without their permission,” Rainbow added.

Everyone nodded in agreement except Pinkie Pie who turned bright red. Rarity never planned on being part of a transgender education. She wasn't uncomfortable with talking about it, though. She was alone with her friends. She was glad her friends were accepting of her. Even if everything didn't go out as planned, it still worked out in the end. She continued chatting among her friends.
