Out of ideas!

View Online

It was just a morning like all other mornings for Rarity.

The mare was getting ready for work. There was not much to do: eat her French toast, wake up her younger sister and send her to school with her breakfast, put on her red glasses and go in her office. There were pieces of fabric everywhere, tools everywhere on the table. "Organized chaos", she called it. Rarity didn't mind. She was herself in all this mess. She usually loves having a clean and organized house, but her workroom was an exception.

Rarity became a famous designer. And she wasn't only known as a designer, but as a sophisticated pony who was fabulous enough to gain Fancy Pant's, Sapphire Shore's, Photo Finish' and Hoity Toity's friendship. She was even an Element of Harmony, so knew all the princesses! In a word, she was popular. That day she ran out of ideas. Where did her creativity go? No idea. She didn't know what to design. She decided to go outside to clear her mind. It was Autumn, so she wrapped a blue scarf around her neck. The grey unicorn locked the door and walked towards the fountain and saw Fluttershy.

"Fluttershy, dear!", she called.

The startled pegasus dropped some bread she was giving to the ducks and turned around.

"Hello, Rarity...", she murmured.

"I ran out of ideas, today! It's a black hole. Do you want me to sew anything?"

"Oh... no thank you...", she giggled. "There's no event coming up for me."

"Maybe Twilight would like something! Since she's a princess and everything, she must have a request to make."

But the Princess of Friendship didn't request anything. She liked her old dress for the Grand Galloping Gala and wore it at each special occasion. It still fit her, even if she was taller and they had to cut holes for her wings. When Rarity came into the sparkly eyesore castle, Twilight was reading a book.

"Hello Twilight. Want a dress? I ran out of ideas."

"Mmm, no thank you. I'm kind of busy. Studies."

"I... uh, okay then. Since you have Spike and all, mind sending a letter to all of our friends?"

She didn't mind. Spike, take a letter! The scaly assistant came in with a quill and scroll. He looked at Rarity with dreamy eyes, his mouth opened a bit. Rarity was beginning to find that a bit... weird.

"Watcha want, Rarity?", he asked.

"Send a letter to each of your acquaintances if they want a dress from me, please, my Spikey Wikey."

Spike wrote it one one scroll, that Twilight made duplicate with her magic. It was a new spell she learned, that only worked on paper. Spike sent them all to the ponies they knew and leaned a bit over Rarity.

"Done, Rarity!", he said.

"You're such a sweetheart."

She gave him a warm hug and a kiss on his nose and cheeks. The dragon's heart beat so fast he thought it was going to explode. He smiled a big goofily and pinched himself to make sure it wasn't a dream. It wasn't. Rarity trotted out the door, and Spike could have a good view on her flank, which made Twilight chuckle. Spike blushed.

"This time, don't wash me! I had a hug, and... th-three whole kisses from Rarity..."

"Spike, you'll need to have a bath sooner or later."

"NOOO!", and he hid in his little bed.

Meanwhile, Rarity was on her way home, humming "Art of the Dress" on the way. She was finally going to design something. Her friends were the most inspiring ponies she knew, and give them gifts and nice things always made her happy. Yeah, she really was the Element of Generosity, and she felt proud of it.

She opened her door and sighed. She felt nervous for some reason. She really needed to relax. Fluttershy joined her for lunch. Rarity cooked a very fancy meal, and Fluttershy wasn't used to so much attention. They were at the table and chatting.

"Spike is really adorable, Fluttershy. He does everything we say! He's so sweet and everything."

"Are you saying he's useful?", Fluttershy's eyes widened.

"Of cooouuuurse he is! He's useful, helpful, sweet and caring. I'd dream of an assistant like him!"

"Oh. Okay... Just, don't 'use' him in that way."

"I would not 'USE' him! Besides, I don't ask for too much, and he does it with heart."

"He sure does", smiled the yellow pegasus.

"Say, how about we go to the spa?"

"Oh, no, I'm fine."

But fifteen minutes later, the two ladies were in a hot water tub. Stallions gave them not really discrete looks, which made Fluttershy blush a bit.

"Those looks they're giving to us...", she whispered, hiding her flank and between her legs with her long tail.

"Oho, come on, Fluttershy! Relax a bit. Learn how to be a lady. Let the danger approach like he wants, but when he reaches you, bam! You hit him."

"HIT him? Oh... no, I would never..."

"Then what you're gonna do? Let him do? There are some stallions you can let do", she giggled. "But protect yourself the lady way. And there's no point of hiding all that, darling! You're beautiful!"

Fluttershy blushed and mumbled a faint 'Thank you'. She still hid her flank with her tail, pushing in deep into the water each time a stallion gave her a look. But she couldn't tell if he was giving a look to Rarity or her. After all, Rarity was the most fabulous pony in town. Plus, she wasn't hiding anything. She was a true lady. Fluttershy would like to act like that, sure of herself, walking and doing everything and style. No wonder Spike had a huge crush on her! But Fluttershy was just to timid to do all that. The yellow pegasus stood up and shook her tail, head and wings.

"I have to go... It's teatime for the animals. See you later!"

"Bye, darling!"

The unicorn stood up as well and wrapped a towel around her body in style. Every move, every step she made was about perfection. She was always sure of what she was doing! And the dress she was going to design, to whomever she'll give, was going to be as perfect as her. She walked home and saw a letter in her mailbox. Even her mailbox looked sophisticated! She took out a scroll. She opened it, and her eyes widened so much her nose and mouth looked tiny.

"oh. My. CELESTIA."

Important request

Rarity was flabbergasted. This letter was... no, it must have been a prank. Just some stupid prank from Rainbow Dash. Rarity chuckled to reassure herself but... a voice kept on worrying her: what if it was true? Rarity blinked and took out a scroll:

"Dear 'Princess Celestia',
Rainbow Dash, you big... Don't ever scare me that way. Ever again! Your lousy little prank just got me worried. It wouldn't have worked anyway. I'm pretty sure Twilight didn't send a letter to her anyway. You thought you'll succeed tiring me to death by making me design and sew some official important council and coronation dresses? You're such a fool. - Rarity"

For the first time of her life, she used the spell to send scrolls. There was only Rainbow Dash who could do such a stupid prank! Even if Pinkie was a prankster, she doubted the pink earth pony would shock her that way. Several minutes later, a letter poofed in front of her face. It was from Princess Celestia. Again. Rainbow Dash was insisting. Rarity sighed and rolled her eyes, but opened the letter and levitated it in front of her face.

"Dearest Rarity, my loyal subject and student,
No, it wasn't your friend Rainbow Dash the Loyal who pranked you. I am, in all seriousness, requesting from you two dresses, for my sister and me for future councils, coronations and important events. Of course, if it makes you so nervous, you do not have to do it. It is just a request, we can always ask somepony else. - Your teacher and Princess, Raiser of the Sun and Ruler of Equestria, Celestia."

Now this was to much for Rarity to handle. She fell on the ground and passed out: the official stamp with the symbol of Equestria was there... in the bottom of the scroll. It was like getting an autograph from all the important ponies of her nation! And it was confirmed: she had to design and make dresses for the most important ponies in all ponykind: Celestia and Luna, Sun and Moon raisers, Rulers of Equestria.

A while later, Rarity was in her bed. A purple face with wide green eyes was looking at her, with a worried expression.

"Rarity? Are you okay?", asked the dragon.

"Spikey wikey!", she smiled and gave him a warm hug. "I made a terrifying nightmare: I had to design dresses for the most important princesses of Equestria!"

"Ah'm afraid it wasn't a dream, sugarcube", mumbled an orange pony with a western accent.

"Since you're Applejack... you must be honest... Unless... I..."

The poor unicorn breathed in and out quickly. This was the most stressful request she ever received. An official dress for Celestia and Luna. She couldn't just believe it! Even if she was excited, she was also nervous. Nervicited, like Pinkie would say. Rarity saw a purple Alicorn enter her room.

"Hey, Rarity. Since you'll be needing lots of help for this one, I can lend you my number 1 assistant."

"Spikey Wikey? Oh, I'm sure he'll make me feel a lot better, but I will never make it!"

"You will, Rarity!", exclaimed the dragon, holding her shaking hoof. "You're the best fashionista in Equestria!"

"Ohoho", she chuckled nervously. "You're too sweet."

They stood there for a moment looking at each other, but then Rarity's eyes widened: she had to get to work right away! She put on her red glasses and directly teleported to her room. Spike ran as fast as he could to join her. Twilight and Applejack appeared at the door:

"Welp, good luck, Rarity!", smiled the cowmare.

"Yeah. Don't be to hard on yourself."

Rarity smiled at her caring friends. She was really lucky to have them. Then, at that moment, Sweetie Belle came in and saw Rarity and Spike in the workroom.

"Hey, Rarity! Spike! What are you guys doing?"

"I'm helping Rarity do design some very important dresses! For Princess Celestia and Luna!"

Sweetie Belle approached near Spike, her eyes sparkling.

"That's awesome!"

Rarity rolled her eyes, tapping her hoof nervously on the ground. She pushed Sweetie away from Spike and chased her out the workroom.

"Yes, yes, it is. Now please, we've got some work to do."

She slammed the door and turned back to Spike.

"So, Spikey Wikey. I'm going to firstly design a dress for Celestia.", she muttered, doodling on a piece of paper.

Spike watched her do. Even with a little messy mane, Rarity always looked fabulous. He'd do anything to help her! Even the time she used him as a pincushion... it hurt so much, but he would do anything for her. At first, he just had a crush on her because she was beautiful. But she was also generous, kind, caring, sweet... She was most definitely the most beautiful and nice pony. He always thought she would deserve to be a Princess! Like, the new Princess Platinum. She deserved to be treated as one in the least. Finally, the unicorn scratched her chin, a smile appeared upon her face.

"Hmmm... yes, this is good. Yep! Yep!", she smirked, concentrating more. "A ribbon here... There!"

She showed Spike her design. He nodded, grinning.

"It's wonderful Rarity! You really are an amazing designer!"

She raised her chin, blushing faintly. That dragon really was generous in compliments and nice things! She went next to him and smacked his cheeks. The dragon's face became all read and she could feel the warmth of his blush.

"Oh. Yes, I know, I know... Now let's get to work."

"Yes, Rarity!", Spike cheered, running after her.

Let's get to work...

Rarity was working for a few hours now, and she still didn't finish Princess Celestia's dress. On the doodle, her dress was really... impressive. There were several layers of fabric and complex patterns. But it had to look perfect. This dress wasn't for anypony.

"Spike, dear, could you go get me a piece of red fabric? Mmm, about 36x50."

"... About what now?", he asked, confused.

"Nevermind, just take the largest piece you find."

She stroked her mane with her hoof, nervous. Spike went to the fabric closet and climbed on the table to reach the roll of red fabric. He was almost there, but tripped and all the fabric fell with him. Rarity giggled and walked to him, lifting up some fabric. Under, Spike was almost knocked out. But he was okay. He shook his head and stood right back up, showing her a roll of red fabric:

"There you go, Rarity!", he smiled.

"Thank you~", she levitated the roll to her table. "Mmm, could you clean this mess up, please?"

"Sure will!", and he executed right away.

She went back to work, when a cyan blue face appeared at her window, startling her. Her friend Rainbow Dash opened the window, almost hitting her friend's face.

"Heyo, Rarity.", she said, hovering over the table.

"Nhhhhey, Rainbow.", she replied. "I'm sort of busy right now."

"But you need to reeelaaaaxxxxx, Rarity. You're too stressed, there let me massage you."

"That won't be neces- OooooOOOH~ Mmmmm... I didn't know you were such a good massager, Rainbow Dash."

"Actually, Spike is massaging you. I was too lazy to do it.", the pegasus chuckled.

Rarity blushed as the pegasus laughed her lungs out. Spike stopped and scratched his neck, thinking she didn't want him to massage her. The rainbow-maned Pegasus went out the window.

"At least I gave Spike an opportunity to give you some pleasure!", and she sticks her tongue out.

"Yeah, yeah right. Get out!", Rarity yelled and closed the window. "This pegasus is really getting on my nerves."

"Calm down, Rarity... If you want, I can massage you some more...", he proposed, his eyes shimmering with hope.

"Fine. I must admit it was quite pleasant...", she giggled, letting the dragon massage her shoulders. "Mmmm~ Oh! Yes... A bit more t-... This is wonderful!"

In the room next to it, Sweetie Belle was doubting on what was happening in that room. She covered her ears with a pillow, sweat dripping down her face. Finally, it stopped.

"Thank you for the massage, Spike", the fashionista sighed.

'Phew', Sweetie Belle thought and went back doing her homework. Rarity got back to work. Finally, she added the last touch, stitching the fabric to make a wonderful sun on the pattern. It looked marvellous! But not perfect enough. Rarity knew it; she wouldn't make something good enough. She took a pencil and paper to doodle another design.

"What are you doing? Luna's dress? ... With a sun?"

"Nope, another dress for Celestia. This one wasn't good enough.", she muttered. "Must be more extravagant. More amazing patterns and more colors... More fantasy..."

When she was done, she showed the paper to Spike. The first one was already very complex, this one seemed impossible. But it was amazing. It was even more perfect than the first! He really wondered how she'll be able to sew it.

"It's great, Rarity! Even better than the old one!"

"I knew it!", she exclaimed. "Well, I have more work now."

And there she was again, stitching, sawing, cutting, assembling... Rarity never worked so much in one day. She used Spike as a pincushion again, wondering if it hurt... 'Probably not... If it hurt, he would at least say Ouch. And he would tell me... I would feel terrible if it hurt him.' She smiled and worked on.

Hours later, she finally finished off the neck, with a giant golden symbol. Spike looked amazed. It was just fabric, but it shone like a real sun! It kind of hurt his eyes, though... He rubbed his eyelids and Rarity trotted around. It was so shiny it made her happy. Spike liked seeing her happy that way. Even if the sun on the chest was... TOO shiny. All the dress was shiny, but mostly the chest. He forced himself to look and smile.

"Woo! I didn't even realize how late it was. How about we eat dinner at some restaurant together, Spikey wikey? We did some lovely work today."

"Sure!", Spike answered, his cheeks flushing with red.

'A DATE WITH RARITY? No... It isn't a date, silly me. We're just going out as friends! But we would look like a couple. Oh, a dragon can dream, can't he?' And he dreamt on about what he'd look like if he grew up a bit more: huge, with big muscles, and Rarity would admire him. She would be the new Princess Platinum, and he'd be her loyal knight. She would be married with that big a-hole Thunderlane who forced her to date him, but truth is, she only loved Spike. And they'd go everyday on dates, and Thunderlane would be jealous. And he would try to kill Spike, but Spike would take out his knife of love and set up a date between Blossomforth and him.

No, he wouldn't kill him: because Spike the warrior would be the kindest, the most generous, loyal, honest, and clement dragon of all Equestria. And he would rather give his enemy a chance rather than kill him so he will never find true love. And Rarity and him would reign and live forever happy with a couple of kids.

"Spike? Are you okay?"

"Huh? Oh, hey, Sweetie Belle. Where did Rarity go?"

"She just told you she was going to prepare herself... Were you even listening?!"

"Apparently not", he chuckled.

"Hey, me and the CMC are going to have a picnic tomorrow, care coming with us?"

"Eh, sorry, Rarity and I have some work...", he shrugged.

"Aw come on! You work too much, I'm sure she'd give you a day-off!"

"Fine, then.", he smiled. "I'll be there."

Sweetie Belle squeed and waved, trotting to the door and joining her club of friends. Spike noticed Sweetie was also pretty. Not as much as Rarity, but she was cute. His thoughts about Sweetie cut straight when he saw Rarity coming in with a very fancy black dress. She smiled at the dragon and lifted him up, kissing his cheek.

"To the wonderful dress I finally finished for Celestia!"

Having a 'date'

View Online

Spike had never seen such a fancy place before. Not in Ponyville, in the least... It had beautiful decorations, colorful candles lit up the rooms. The walls were made in some kind of beautiful wood and the floor was in a sort of rock. If Maud Pie was there, she could tell him what kind it was. But nothing of this was as beautiful as Rarity. She had a fancy mane, and a fancy black dress that suit her perfectly well.

"So, Spike, what do you want to eat?", she asked the dragon.

"Are there quartz spaghettis?", he looked up to the waiter.

"Umm... No... We only have pony food.", he muttered back, embarrassed.

"Discrimintation!", Rarity almost yelled. "I could give you a few quartz. Good thing I packed some for you, my Spikey Wikey."

She levitated some gems from her bag and gave it to the waiter. He stared at them, then at Rarity. He was now forced to write "Quartz spaghettis" on the list.

"Will that be all?", he asked.

"I'll just take the hay salad and an oatshake. I'm not feeling very hungry."

"Mmm-kay", and the waiter went off.

There were there, in the light of a red candle. Soft music played, and other people chatted peacefully. Rarity was looking out the window. She seemed bored. It was the perfect moment to tell her how he felt! He let a few minutes fly by. Rarity was now reading a book and lent a fancy comic to Spike. The poor dragon didn't understand anything. Finally, he decided to move.

"Uhh... Rarity?", he almost whispered.

"Mm, yes dear?", she replied, looking at him.

Ooh gosh. Those amazing blue eyes just pinched his heart. He held his heart with his hand, his cheeks all red. He took a deep breath:

"I just wanted to tell you that, all this t-"

"Hello there you lovebirdies! I love birdies, don't you love birdies? Birdies are cool, they can sing. Heyy, did you know that birdies are actually birds?? I always thought the word bird was a short for birdie, but turns out I was wrong. But that's okay, because..."

Pinkie Pie. Always there to break the romance. She kept on blabbing about birds, while Spike burried his face in his arms.

"Aaaaanywhooo", continued the pink earth pony. "I heard you were going to eat here together and I just wanted to join you! I even brought Gummy!"

She lifted the green alligator to their faces, then gave him a nuzzle. She sat down on an imaginary chair and called the waiter.

"WAITER! I would like a cake, please, with oats, oats all over, and I want my cake to be honey-flavored, because honey is good right? RIGHT? But anyway I want also some cream and cotton candy. Thank you, you can dismiss now!"

Pinkie pushed the waiter away and looked at her two friends.

"SOOO! What were you two chatting about?", the Pink Popular Party Planner of Ponyville asked.

"Well, Spike was about to tell me something."

"Oh? Oh! Yes, I was! In fact, I just wanted to tell you that... Umm... Oh, haha, buck it, I forgot what I wanted to say! Haha!"

"Oh, Spike you're so funny sometimes!", Pinkie Pie blasted of laughter. "Ain't he, Rarity?"

"Yes, he is...", the unicorn rolled her eyes.

Spike sighed. Each time he was about to confess his love, somepony had to come and ruin it all. The poor dragon wondered why it always happened to him. Pinkie kept on talking. About clocks, now. Rarity even wondered how she changed the subject that quickly.

"So, Twilight bought this crystal clock for her castle! And when it rang, oh, my, ears! I swear I thought they were going to blow! It made a cristalline sound!"

"Isn't that good and relaxing?", asked Rarity nonchalantly.

"It was a LOUD cristalline sound! I meeped and ran back home and hid under my blankets. Gummy had to comfort me for the rest of the day."

"Mmm-hmmm...", replied Spike.

Finally, a miracle happened. The waiter came back with the meals they had ordered! Pinkie finally shut up and dived into the huge cake. Spike started eating his quartz spaghettis. It was better when Rarity made them herself. But the quartz she chose were always tasty and delicious. Rarity started eating her salad. She was the only one who seemed civilized.

We couldn't see Pinkie's face features: there was so much cake on her head! She laughed alone, while Spike sighed, still thinking about how perfect was the moment until she had to come. Then, another miracle happened: Pinkie had to pee.

"Oo! Be righty backy, needy WC!", and she ran to the toilets.

Ahh, alone again! Spike cleared his throat to get Rarity's attention. After 5 or 6 throat clearing, he started to seriously cough. Finally, Rarity turned to him and saw him agonize on his chair.

"Oh dear!", she exclaimed and went helping him.

When the cough attack ceased, Pinkie chose the right moment to come back. Her mane was filled with peppermints for some reason.

"There was a very nice guy who gave me all those peppermints, so I put them in my mane", she explained.

Spike was now almost enraged. Why were all his tentatives of confession ruined by some event? He shouldn't have cleared his throat that many times! But what was done was done, and he kept on eating his spaghettis, Pinkie Pie her cake and Rarity her salad. They didn't talk much for the rest of the dinner, and finally Spike and Rarity walked back home while Pinkie was drunking herself out at the restaurant. They'd probably kick her out sooner or later.
