Goodbye Apple Bloom. Will Applejack ever be able to move on?
Apple Bloom passes away. The pony it effects the most is Applejack. She starts acting not like herself. She gets an attitude and goes a bit insane. Can she ever get past this?
Today was full of sadness for Applejack, her friends, and her family. Applebloom had been very sick over the past year. She got a brain tumor and couldn't walk anymore. She stopped going to school and her meetings at the clubhouse with Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo. She was in bed 24|7.
The day had been normal. Apple Bloom was in bed and Applejack and Big Mac worked in the farm. Just then Applejack walked in.
"Apple Bloom, I brought you some soup. Wake up Sugarcube." She didn't wake up. AJ got a worried look on her face.
"Apple Bloom?" she got no response. She shook her a bit. She didn't wake up or move. AJ started crying.
"Granny! Big Mac!" Applejack screamed sobbing.
"Child, what is it?" asked a concerned Granny Smith.
"It's Apple.... Bloom." she said sobbing, tears streaming down her face.
They took Apple Bloom to the hospital. They had to wait in the waiting room while Apple Bloom was getting checked out. Applejack was pacing back and forth trying to hold in her tears, while Big Mac and Granny Smith sat in chairs. After a couple minutes the doctor motioned them to walk in.
"I'm sorry. There was nothing we could do. I suggest you say your goodbyes." he said sternly.
After he left the room, AJ fell to the ground on her knees, put her hooves over her face, and let all the tears she was holding in violently flow out of her eyes. Just then the doctor walked in. She was sobbing very loudly.
"I know honey. I know." said Granny hugging Applejack.
"Miss Applejack. Would you please settle down. Your scaring the other patients." he said sternly. AJ looked at him with annoyance in her bloodshot eyes.
"My little sister just fuckin' died and yer tellin' me to settle down?! Are you kiddin' me!" she shouted, standing up and starting to walk toward the doctor.
"Now Applejack I think you need to-" Granny Smith was cut off short.
"What would you do if someone you loved just died, and you were told to settle down? Don't fuckin' tell me settle down! You bitch!" shouted Applejack angrily, her eyes still bloodshot red.
"Applejack please settle down!" shouted the doctor.
"Just please. Go away!" shouted Applejack. The doctor left the room, shocked by what had just happened.
She threw herself on top of Apple Bloom and sobbed. Big Mac and Granny Smith stood there, said their goodbyes, and tried to get Applejack to leave.
"Come on honey. We should leave."
"Just 5....more....minutes Granny." said AJ sobbing.
"Applejack that's what you said 5 minutes ago." she said seriously. Just then the doctor walked in.
"If you've said your goodbyes", Granny Smith and Big Mac shook their heads,"we need to cover Apple Bloom's body and put it in the coffin. Granny slowly pulled AJ away from the body. The doctor and 2 nurses took away the body.
"Wait, wait." said a kind of confused AJ. She realized what was happening as the body was being lifted.
"Noooooooooooo! Apple Bloom!" shouted AJ. She started to run toward the doctor with the body, but was held back by Big Macintosh.
"Noooooooooooo! Big Mac! Let go!" she kicked and screamed. The doctor was already out of the room. She bucked Big Mac in the stomach, he dropped her, and she landed hard on the floor with a loud crunch coming from her body. Blood was gushing everywhere. When she fell to the ground, she passed out. She woke up to faint voices
"She's waking up." she heard a faint voice say. It was Twilight.
"Thank Celestia." said Rarity's relieved, faint voice.
"Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness." said Fluttershy's even fainter voice.
She slowly opened her eyes to find herself in a hospital bed. She looked to her right to see Granny Smith.
"Gr.... Granny?"
"It's me." Granny said smiling.
Remembering what happened the previous day, AJ sat up immediately.
"Apple Bloom! No!" she shouted starting to cry.
She tried to get up, but felt that she was attached to a wire and needle, without thinking or looking at her hoof she pulled the needle giving her blood of her hoof. She screamed in pain. She tried to run away. Her back hoof hurt tremendously, so she fell to ground, and tried to crawl out of the room. Blood was gushing out of her hoof. Twilight stopped her with her magic before she could.
"Let me go!"
"No AJ! I have to put you back in the bed now!"
"No!"
"Then I'm afraid I can't let you go." said Twilight with a serious look on her face.
"Ok fine!" said AJ annoyed.
When the doctor came in, he saw the unhooked needle.
"Applejack! Don't take out the needle!"
"Why?"
"We need to give you blood. You passed out mighty hard yesterday." he said sternly as he reinserted the needle.
"Ow!"
"When you fell, you broke your back hoof." he said pointing to the patched up hoof.
He told AJ she needed a wheelchair to get around.
"Ok. I'm fine. Can I go now?"
"No. Not yet. You also lost a lot of blood, so we need to make sure you get that blood back."
"Ok fine." she said rolling her eyes.
The doctor left the room.
"It's not so bad AJ." said Pinkie Pie with a smile on her face.
"Sure. Not so bad." said Applejack sarcastically, with an agitated look on her face.
"Cheer up Applejack." said Twilight.
"There. You happy?" asked Appleiack with a fake smile on her face.
"Nope." said Big Mac frowning.
The day passed on and eventually every pony fell asleep. The other 5 stayed with her. The doctor came in the next morning and gave Applejack good news.
"You can go home, you just need to stay off that leg."
"Will do." she said as she got into her wheelchair. Big Mac rolled his sister out if the room. Her friends and grandma followed. When she was out of the hospital she started sobbing loudly. Her friends hugged.
"It's ok Applejack." said Twilight. AJ pushed her friends aside.
"No Twilight! It's not....ok! First....I lose my....parents, and....now....I lose Apple Bloom! I just....need to be alone!" she shouted between sobs rolling away as quickly as she could. Her friends ran after her. It wasn't long before they caught up to her.
"Applejack we understand you're very upset, but you need to calm down. Its like your not even yourself anymore. You're also acting kind of rude." said Twilight.
"I'm sorry every pony. I'm just....I just need to be alone right now." she said rolling away slowly and softly crying. The rest of the night she laid in her bed sobbing. She locked her door, and eventually cried herself to sleep.
The next day they held a funeral in the afternoon. Every pony wore black and some spoke at the funeral. Every pony including Rainbow Dash cried. The last pony to leave was Applejack. She met her friends at Twilight's library.
After the funeral, they sat at Twilight's library and tried to cheer each other up. They ate tea and biscuits. They talked about their feelings. Actually, they all did except Applejack. In fact, Applejack wouldn't say anything to the others when she was there, no matter how much the others tried to get her to.
"Come Applejack. At least say one word!" said Twilight.
They were all worried about AJ. She had never acted like this before.
"I'm gonna go y'all. I need to do....something." she said tearing up.
"AJ, are you sure you'll be alright?" asked Rainbow concerned.
"Darling, we'd be happy to come with you and-" Rarity got cut off short by Applejack.
"No thanks. I'll be fine. she said looking away from them. She walked out and left the meeting. The others looked at each other concerned.
"Something's definitely wrong." said Pinkie Pie.
"Of course. Her sister just died." said Rarity.
"What I mean is this isn't the Applejack we know. The Applejack we know was kind. This Applejack is kind of mean." said Pinkie.
"Like I said darling, she just lost her sister. What would you do if you lost Maud?"
"Point taken."
"We gotta do something." said Rainbow.
"I think what we SHOULD do is let her have her time to mourn." said Twilight seriously.
"But-"
"No buts Rainbow. She's made it pretty clear she just wants to be alone. You saw the shape she's in. She wouldn't even talk to us." said Twilight.
"Ok. Fine." said Rainbow crossing her hooves.
Applejack went over by the CMC clubhouse, bringing in the memories there of Apple Bloom. She was about to leave when she heard sobbing, glass shattering, and bumps. She ran up the ramp and opened the door. When she opened he door she saw Scootaloo breaking things and kicking walls and the floor, screaming at the top of her lungs and crying. Sweetie Belle was huddled in the corner in fright, crying softly.
"Scootaloo! Stop!" Applejack shouted as she grabbed Scootaloo. Scootaloo kicked and screamed and sobbed.
"Easy Scootaloo." said AJ trying to calm Scootaloo down. Scootaloo calmed down and Applejack let go. She passed out.
"Sweetie Belle, stay here. I'm gonna take Scootaloo to the hospital and I'll be right back." said AJ. Putting Scootaloo on her back. Sweetie Belle nodded her head, still huddled in the corner in fear.
"I'm back Sweetie Belle. Scootaloo has to stay overnight. She's got cuts and bumps and bruises and glass stuck in her that they have to get out. Poor little filly. Why don't you come into the barn with me Sugarcube?" said Applejack softly.
"O....okay." said Sweetie Belle upset.
They went into the barn and sat down at a table. There was a bit of silence until Sweetie Belle spoke.
"I don't know what got into Scootaloo. We came to the clubhouse after the funeral. After she closed the door she started going crazy. She started punching the walls and breaking things. Her mane became a mess and I couldn't say anything. I was terrified." said Sweetie Belle concerned.
"How are you feelin' Sweetie Belle?" asked Applejack trying to hold back tears.
"Alright. I guess. I'm sorry."
"It's alright. It ain't your fault."
"Yes it is. I feel like I wasn't there for her. If I had visited her more she might....might have li....lived longer." said Sweetie Belle starting to cry.
"Sweetie Belle. I want you to look me in the eyes, okay?" Sweetie Belle did as she was told. "It ain't your fault. It's no pony's fault." she said starting to cry.
"Why did it have to be her though? Why couldn't I....have gotten th....the tumor?" asked Sweetie Belle crying.
"Then Apple Bloom would've been sad." The thought of Apple Bloom made AJ finally cry.
"Can I....have a....hug?" asked Sweetie Belle sobbing.
"Of course Sugarcube." said Applejack embracing Sweetie Belle tightly in a hug. She started to cry.
"So how are-" Sweetie Belle was interrupted by a knock on the barn door.
"I'll be right back." AJ said trotting over to the door.
"Okay." said Sweetie Belle.
Applejack opened the door to reveal Rarity.
"Hi Applejack. Um, is Sweetie Belle here?" she asked peeking inside the barn door.
"Uh. Yeah she is. Come in." she said to Rarity. Rarity politely nodded and walked in.
"Hello Sweetie Belle. Is Scootaloo here?" Sweetie Belle waved with a tiny smile on her face.
"No. I had to take her down to the hospital. She had glass in her body and hooves and she had lots of cuts and bruises." AJ said with a worried look on her face.
"Oh my. Have you told Rainbow Dash?"
"I'll go now." said AJ trotting to the door.
"Applejack wait! Well come." chimed in Sweetie Belle.
"Aw that's mighty sweet but-"
"And we won't take no for an answer." said Rarity sternly.
"Alright."
The 3 ponies walked over to Rainbow's cloud castle. Applejack called to her from down below. The cloud door opened to reveal a messy maned, light blue pegasus with red eyes.
"What's up guys?" asked Rainbow wiping tears away from her eyes.
"I have to tell you somethin'." AJ said with a worried look on her face.
"Now don't freak out. I'm sure she'll be okay." Rainbow got a worried look on her face when AJ said this.
"Scootaloo is in the hospital."
"What?!" Rainbow shot up in the sky and flew away as fast as she could.
"Come on! We gotta follow her!" shouted Sweetie Belle running, AJ and Rarity following.
They chased Rainbow to the hospital. They asked for Scootaloo's room. The doctor told them to come in. Scootaloo was sleeping peacefully in the bed. Rainbow was there smiling at the sleeping filly.
"It took a while, but we got all the glass out. She's going to need lots of bed rest though."
"Ok doctor. Thank you." said Rarity to the doctor as he left the room.
"Alright. Now some pony explain to me what's going on!" said Rainbow sternly, almost yelling.
"Well uh." Applejack didn't know how to start. Sweetie Belle stepped forward and spoke.
"Well, we came back from the funeral, and she started breaking things, kicking the walls, and kicking the floor. I wanted to stop her, but I was too frightened. I'm sorry. I should've stopped her." Sweetie explained, looking a bit ashamed.
"It's alright Sweetie Belle. As long as she's okay." Dash said softly looking at the sleeping filly.
"Come Sweetie Belle. It's almost dinner time, and you know how Opal gets if she not served dinner on time." Rarity said calmly.
"Buy everyone." said Sweetie Belle, waving. The others waved back.
AJ sat in a hospital chair, trying to hold back tears and look as normal as possible.
"AJ, are you alright?" asked Rainbow.
"Why wouldn't I be?" she answered, looking down at the ground.
"Applejack, you're not fooling me." Rainbow said sternly.
"Okay fine. Apple Bloom's gone! I can't take it! She didn't deserve to die! Why couldn't I have died?!" AJ shouted while crying.
"Then we would've missed you! And if we have more trouble in Equestria, we need the element of honesty." Rainbow explained, trying to comfort her friend.
"I'm gonna go. Let me know if she wakes up." AJ said softly walking out of the hospital.
"R....Rainbow Dash? Where am I?" asked Scootaloo confused.
"Applejack!" Rainbow screamed running out of the hospital, to catch up to AJ. Two minutes passed, until she came back.
"She's up!" Rainbow told AJ with excitement, dragging her.
"Hey Scootaloo." AJ said, still upset.
"Hey. I'm sorry about Apple Bloom. Ow. My body hurts. Anyways, I wish I died instead of her. It's not like any pony would really miss me anyways. I don't have parents or family." Scootaloo said starting to cry.
"That's not true Squirt. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle would miss you! I would miss you! Your my sister, even if it's not by blood!" Rainbow said kind of upset.
"Anyways both of you. I'm upset too, but-" Rainbow was cut off short by the doctor.
"Well, look who's awake." he said happily.
"Why am I in the hospital?" Scootaloo asked.
"Well, you were breakin' things after the funeral, and you got glass stuck in ya. All over your arms and legs. Also in yer back a bit. You passed out, so I brought ya here." AJ said seriously.
"That's what happened. Im sorry. I was just so mad and I couldn't control myself." Scootaloo said starting to cry.
"Its alright Sugarcube. I did the same thing." she said looking at the doctor. He nodded his head.
"Am I allowed to go home?" Scootaloo asked.
"Let me see if you can walk." the doctor said to Scootaloo. She got out of the bed and tried to walk.
"It just hurts a little. I'm okay though." Scootaloo said.
"She can go home, but I need you to take care of her, and if it starts to hurt her really bad, she needs to lay down immediantly. Any problems come back." the doctor said seriously, looking at Rainbow Dash.
"Will do. Come on Squirt. Lets go home." Dash said, walking out of the hospital. Scootaloo and Applejack followed her.
"Im gonna go home." AJ said.
"AJ wait. Scootaloo wait here with Applejack. Ill be right back." Dash took off and went to find the others (Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Sweetie Belle).
"Im back and WE want some answers." Dash said, with the others behind her.
"About what?" Applejack asked confused.
"About your behavior. I mean I understand your upset and you're still healing, but whenever we come to hang out with you or you come to see us, which is almost never, you always leave within 5 to 10 minutes! We need answers!" Rainbow said seriously, stating what was on her mind loud and clear.
"Okay fine! You want answers, then youll get some! I just cant take my mind off Apple Bloom, no matter how hard I try! There's yer answer." AJ said shouting a bit.
"Like I was trying to say in the hospital, Im upset too, but Apple Bloom wouldnt want us to be sad. She'd want us to be happy and move on." Rainbow said seriously.
"I guess yer right. I mighty sorry for the way Ive been acting every pony." AJ, looking a bit ashamed.
"Its alright Applejack. We understand why." Twilight said smiling.
"Its just a suggestion, but try going to therapy too. That should help. It helped me when I lost my mom." Fluttershy said calmly.
"Thanks every pony." AJ said smiling.
"Scootaloo! You're awake!" Sweetie Belle ran up to her friend and hugged her a little too tightly.
"Ow."
"Oh. Sorry Scootaloo." Sweetie Belle stepped back.
"Its okay Sweetie Belle." Scootaloo said rubbing her side.
Applejack took her friends' advice. She starting going to therapy and talking to her friends more, instead of keeping her feelings to herself. Her broken heart was finally healing.
