The sound of hoofsteps and armor clanking disrupt the calm night as a bat pony alicorn walks down the streets of Canterlot. Loneliness gripping the stallions heart. Other guards waved hi and he waved back, his pain masked by a smile. But there was always one thing that would get him.
'What a lovely night it is... Luna tried her best tonight.' I thought as i trudge down the street not noticing the white coated, pink maned mare walking the opposite direction. I continued my walk going down West Ave to the barracks where i was going to spend another lonely day. We met with a loud bang as she ran head first into my shined armor. As she scrambled out of her leg knot she opened her mouth to speak.
"Oh, So-" She stopped as she looked up into my yellow glowing eyes, blushing, and then quickly looking back down shyly.
"S-so s-s-sorry sir." I couldn't help but smile at her in a friendly fashion, after all i didn't get to talk to many mares.
"It's alright... Are you okay ma'am?" I ask in my typical monologue voice as i dust her off with my magic.
"I-I'm A-azure" She said nervously almost completely giving away her love. Well... at least she IS cute.
"Pleasure to meet you Azure. I'm Back Fire the current Bat Pony captain."
"N-Nice to m-meet you." She said slightly raising her head as she stares at my hoofs refusing to look up, her eyes constantly down below my face. I slowly reach a hoof out grasping her chin and lifting her head to look her in the eyes with a kind smile.
“You're a shy one aren't you?” As I say this her eyes flit away nervously. “I-I g-guess so.” Starts to chuckle as she looks up again blushing.
“Wh-what’s s-so f-fu-funny?” I could’ve died right there from her face if cuteness was a WMD.
“You Azure… Not many ponies enjoy talking to me this long…” She blushes as her next sentence comes out.
“Wh-Why w-would I b-be af-afraid? Y-you seem l-like a n-nice stallion.” I smile lightly playing dumb some more.
“Then why are you stumbling in your speech?” Her face turns bright red as she looks up at me before locking lips as i tumble onto my back eyes wide.
“T-Thats w-w-why… P-Please don’t b-be ma-mad!” I can only stare mouthing the word ‘woah’ before i wrap my hooves around her neck pulling her into a deep kiss as her eyes close in absolute bliss. I pull back gently kissing her forehead before standing brushing off my equipment.
“Well miss if that is all you came for i’m just going to head back to my barracks now.” I stand walking back the way i came as a faint “Wait!” is heard behind me as i slowly turn around.
“Yes?”
I look at the mare somehow standing directly in front of me... The same mare that seconds ago was on the ground.
“I- I err. I um….” I stand there letting her take her time… After all… It is the middle of the night.
“I-I umm.. I-” She takes a few deep breathes before getting next to his ear and whispering,
“I love you..” Those words.. Those words can change ones life.. Free a world of happiness. And somepony just said them… I look at her mouth wide as her ears fold back in discomfort.
“I-I’m sor- MMPH!” She gets cut off by my kiss instantly wrapping her hooves around my neck forcing back.. her tongue finding it’s way into my mouth.. Felt nice honestly…. I pull back a large smile on my face before i stand facing the royal gardens.
“Shall we walk?” She nods still starstruck as i gently lay a wing over her as we slowly walk down the street talking about our pasts.. Every step she leans more and more on me until we reach a bench sitting down.
“And that’s all i have to say about that.” I say ending my rant about the price of tea in Chinmare. As the night goes on she slowly lays across the bench, my chest being her pillow as she gazes up into the sky and then to my eyes. I lean down kissing her again as her heart rate skyrockets and she glows red.
“You okay there Azure?” I ask kindly as she nods.
“Y-Yeah i’m just so lifted around you… It feels so good like i’m-”
“-In love.” I say cutting her off with a smile as she rolls over falling asleep on my chest.. Bliss. That word is all i can use to describe that night.. I stayed there a while after she had fallen asleep watching the celestial movements. When a light rain started i hoisted her on my shoulders and trudged the long walk back to my house on the other side of canterlot. Normally, it would be a twenty five minuet fly but since i was walking... And it was raining.. It took me a hour just to cover the three fourths mark. After carrying her back to my home and into the guest room i climb in my own bed as a thunderstorm starts. I always loved the cracking of thunder.. It sounds like the world will end and then there is nothing. The wrath of god all but forgotten... As lightning strikes i hear my door open to see azure walk in and climb in next to me scooting herself against my chest in fear.
“Azure you okay?” She nods smiling as she feels my breath on her mane slowly falling back to sleep as i drape a leg over her. I take in the scent of her mane slowly smiling at the cinnamon smell. As my eyes begin to close I mumble the last few words barely conscious.

"H-hello mister, do you have any candy?" A small filly looks up to you with big innocent eyes. Her coat is a vibrant pink, and her mane & tail are a bright violet. Her wings slightly flutter and obscure the view of her nonexistent cutie mark. *Looks down as i pull my helmet over my bat pony ears* "Why yes. I do." *Opens my side pouch pulling out chocolate bits and eating one before holding them out* "Yay! Thank you." She grabs a couple pieces and puts them in her mouth. She chews them and cutely 'mmm's. *Chuckles as i kneel* "Didn't your parents ever tell you not ta do that? Even if it's a guard your not exactly safe kiddo." "Sorry, but my mom left me here and I don't have a dad." "She left you here? Whe'red she go?" "She went to work. She usually leaves me here and comes back when the moon is out." "Doesn't seem very safe... Where does she work?" "At some place called a brothel." *Coughs as she says this*"W-What!" "What's a brothel?" "When your older squirt... It's almost night so i'll wait with you ya?" "Okay. Uhm, I'm kinda hungry." *Nods as i pull out a sandwich and give half to her* "It has fish.. I can take it off if you want. "It's fine. Thank you." She begins to eat the sandwich. *Smiles as i sit back placing my spear into the ground tying my sword around it* She finishes her half and looks towards the road. "Look it's Princess Luna." She says to the guard, as the princess of the night walks the streets. *Turns saluting* She salutes like him and giggles. *Looks down smiling as i rub her mane* "Princess what are you doing out so early? Normally you have a herald come and get me. Do you no longer need your bodyguard(s)?" "I have decided to take an unguarded stroll around the city! Surely there us no danger in this! I can fully take care of my self!" She yells in the Royal Canterlot Voice. *Rubs my ears* "Your doing it again..." "Oh, apologies." She say regularly. The little filly giggles again. *Looks down at her smiling* "Princess can you come here a moment?" "What do you wish guard?" She asks moving closer to him. *Motions for the filly to cover her ears* Candy Swirls covers her ears. *Leans in close to luna* "Her mother is a prostitute... Any way we could fix that with a maid job?" "I am unsure of our staff situation. I shall look in to it when I get back to the castle." *Nods* "Thank you princess. Please don't forget to send the herald when you need me." "I won't" she unfurls her wings and flies into the sky. Candy Swirls stares into space, still covering her ears. *Taps her motioning to uncover as i watch the moon start to peak over the horizon* She takes her hooves of her ears. "You're really good with kids. Are you a dad?" *Shakes my head* "I was an only child too. Just comes naturally to me." "Do you ever think of becoming one?" *Looks down at her* "W-Wha?" "Have you ever thought of becoming a dad?" She looks at him innocently. "Well No... I don't have a marefriend. And i don't have time to adopt." "Okay." She goes back to watching the sky. "So... What made you ask that?" "I don't know. *" "Okay.. Your mother should be here soon." "Maybe, sometimes it takes up to when the moon is half up the sky." *Shrugs as i wait* "I'm not going to leave you alone" "Thank you." She keeps looking around for her mother. "What does she look like?" Her coat is a darker pink than mine. Her mane and tail are cinnabar, but she dyes a blue strip in the middle.*" *Nods as i continue scanning the street that contains the only brothel in the city* Candy Swirls begins to hum lightly. *Looks away to watch her* "What were you saying to the princess earlier?" "Well i was trying to see if there was an open job at the castle." Suddenly Luna's herald runs up to Night Fire "Her majesty says there is an available job." He reports. *Smiles* "Wonderful. What is the job for?" "Bath attendant." ".... Mares or Stallions?" "The princess." "Huh. Pretty good." "Will I have to live at the castle?" Candy Swirls asks. "Maybe. If your mommy takes the job..." *Watches the moons rise* "My mom says that even with the job she has now barely pays enough for food and the house." "It's different at the castle. I live there sometimes." *Smiles at the small filly messing up her mane* "Candy!" A mare calls out to the filly, walking up to the two. *Turns to the voice* "And you are?" "I'm this filly's mother." She put her hoof over her daughter. *Motions for the filly to cover her ears again* Candy Swirls covers her ears once again. *Looks back to the older mare* "Listen... I know what you are..." Candy Swirls mother, Caring Soul, hangs her head in shame. "I managed to get you a job at the castle." "But if I leave this job I lose the house." "How?" "I barely make enough money to pay the rent and buy enough food for both of us." She looks towards her daughter. "You will be the princesses bath maid." *Follows her gaze* "If you take the job." "How much does it pay?" *Shrugs* "More than what you currently make." "I make three hundred bits per customer." "No offense.. Cheap." *coughs* "Not that i would know." *turns to her* "You would make more as the baths maid. If you come with me i will take you to luna." She sighs heavily, "Well, my little filly did always want to live in the castle." "You don't have to.... I don't live in the barracks. Actually my house is used as a secondary house.. Stallion Cave if you would.. " *Starts to tie my sword back on* "Another thing about my house is that, I only get it if I work at the brothel." "You can stay at mine. A sexy mare like you shouldn't be working there." *Picks up my spear as i motion to the filly before waving down the herald* "Oh, I would hate to impose." "Have Luna send a carriage to my house if you would?" "Nonsense." "Are we going to live at the castle?" Candy Swirls asks still covering her ears. "You can uncover them now. And yes. That or my house.' "Can we switch, like your house one night then the castle the next?" *Smiles* "I can't see why not." *Motions to the two of them to follow me as i walk down the street* "Mom, we're gonna have to get our stuff from the house." "I'm having a carriage sent over." "Are we going to the castle or your house first?" "Mine. You'll be sleeping at my house until tomorrow when your mother starts her new job" *Smiles as i walk up to an extremely large house and open the door finding a few bat ponies playing pool and listening to some records* "Hi!" Candy Swirls yells to the other bat ponies. *A record scratch is heard as one of them speaks up* "Who is this? Another one of the sluts for us?" "What's a slut?" Candy asks. *Laughter is heard as my spear impacts the floor by his foot causing him to scream and jump back as i make my way up the stairs* "But what's a slut?" "Candy don't say that." "Why? " "It's a bad word.. Something your mother is not..." *Opens a door revealing a medium sized room filled with foal toys* "Okay." Candy gives her mom a hug. "Here candy play in here while i talk to mommy." "Yay!" Candy hops into the room and begins to play. *Walks further down the hall into my bedroom as i start taking my gear off* "So.. Are you taking it or not?" "I'll take it, for me and my daughter." *Nods as i strip the last of it off revealing my normally hidden body* "You'll love it. Just keep your tail down by the guards." "Can do. But, what does a bath attendant do?" *Shrugs* "Probably just stands around and gives them stuff. I'm required to stand outside the door." "Like if the princess wants more soap or a towel?" "I don't know.." *Climbs up on the bed shrugging*
"I'll go check on Candy." *Looks at her as i pull the sheet down preparing it for myself* "Get candy and come here." "Okay." She walks out. Minutes later she comes in with a tired Candy Swirls on her back. *Smiles as i chat through the window* "Whats your previous address? The guards will bring your stuff to canterlot castle into your room." "375 Star Shield Lane." *Nods yelling it out the window before i climb into my bed blushing* "i'm booked full. so you'll have to... Uhhh Share?" "Candy can be between us." She places the sleeping filly next to Night Fire.
"Afraid i'll bite?" *Pulls the covers over myself as i doze off* "I'm afraid of something else."
In the morning Candy Swirls wakes up to find she's all alone in bed. "Hello?" *pokes my head through the door* "Morning breakfast downstairs." "Yay!" She hops out of the bed and races downstairs. *Smiles as she enters a hall filled with food* She grabs a bunch of food and begins to eat. "So when do we move into the castle?" "Today." *Looks around for caring* "Great." *Nods* Caring Soul walks in from the front door. "Theres a carriage waiting for us so when your done tell me." *Looks at her* "Where have you been?." *Says guessing the answer* "Walking, quitting my old job." *Smiles as i turn back to candy* "You get me when your done kiddo." *Walks up to candy taking her into the other room* Caring* "I'm already done." She says. *Nods as i take the two of them to a closed carriage motioning to get in, we arrive a short time later* "Wow! It's so big!" Candy exclaims. *Smiles as i walk in leaving candy in a large playroom with a guard* "He'll take you to your room after dinner.." "Hi!" She says to her.
