It was the middle of the night and Fluttershy just awoke to a knock at her door. Upon opening the door she saw that it was her friends and asked with a yawn: "Oh.. Hey girls, what are you doing here so late?"
"The Princesses have summoned us to Canterlot to ask us to undertake a task that could once again save Equestria." replied the newly appointed Princess Twilight Sparkle, "They even sent a carriage since they said they could not wait for a train to arrive. By the way, do you know where Discord is?"
"Did someone say my name?" Discord announced appearing with a poof. " What do they want with me? I haven't done anything wrong and have no idea what this is about." He finished his statement by drinking his tea glass.
"Celestia said that you have an idea of what's going on cause she said you went through it when you were our age."
Discord suddenly choked on his glass and spat out bubbles hitting Angel Bunny in the face. "What?! That can't be I thought that thing disappeared ages ago! If that thing is not properly sealed up Equestria will be thrown into a type of chaos even I don't particularly enjoy"
After hearing what Discord had to say about the subject the six ponies quickly boarded the carriage and took off for Canterlot Castle. "Wait," Rainbow Dash said, "Twilight, why are we taking a carriage when you or Discord could just teleport us there with magic?"
"Allow me to answer," Discord said interrupting pulling up to the side of the chariot, "Magic doesn't work around that thing, nor will it allow magic to be used near it, magic gets backfired on those who cast it when used near the thing, I think it is better to just fly there rather than use magic to get there."
Once they arrived at the castle the ponies, plus Discord, quickly headed towards the Throne Room to see the Princesses. Upon entering Princess Luna quickly said: "Follow us friends, and Discord, my sister is waiting beyond this door." Upon entering the room the Element bearers, Discord, and Princess Luna noticed a portal of some kind next to Princess Celestia who greeted them with a sad smile, "Hello friends i wish we could meet again under better circumstances but time is of the essence. Discord explain to them what one of them will be dealing with."
"Wait! what do y'all mean 'one of us'?" Applejack interrupted.
"What she means my dear, is that while you six have the potential to enter that world, however only one of you will be able to make it through, but it could also be Celestia or Moon-butt that gets chosen."
"STILL THY TONGUE DISCORD!" Princess Luna quickly replied.
"As I was saying, between the eight of you the portal will choose only one and that pony will be transported to the land of Mareth." and to Pinkie he quickly said: "That name isn't a pun by the way. That's the actual name of that realm."
"But why can only one of us go into the portal?" Twilight asked.
"To be honest I don't know. The portal choose me and I went. Those two would of had a better chance than me at the time when it came to surviving in a strange unknown world."
"And why would that be dear?" Rarity asked.
"Because I was not always like this, I used to be a normal Pegasus."
"WHAT?!" the element bearers exclaimed.
"It's true, in that world is many things that can change your appearance, even your gender, but anyways it looks like the portal has chosen which one of you will be going."
As the portal's light grew intense Rarity began to glow as well, the others took this as a sign that it was her that was destined to go though this strange portal and travel to the land of Mareth to save Equestria from a unknown threat. After the mandatory Pinkie Pie going away party, she prepared to step though the portal with a few supplies, Philomena as a inter-dimensional mailbox, and a small unknown stowaway. With a final, tearful smile she said her temporary final good-byes to her friends, she stepped through the portal and began her adventure.
After Rarity and her unknown stowaway entered the portal the remaining ponies looked at Discord and asked: "So exactly who were you before you entered this portal?"
"Well I was the son of a guard here at the castle and Celestia and Moon-butt's father allowed me to play with them since I was the only foal their age that he could keep a close eye on. When this portal first opened up the king tried to blast it with his magic and it ended up killing him and their mother, after she saw what happened to her husband, cast some sort of spell over herself and the princesses, which come to think of it might be why they haven't been touched by the portal.
"So, exactly what happens on the other side of the portal?" Dash asked.
"I'm actually curious about that as well Discord, we never got the chance to ask you since you went, well, after you came back." Celestia commented.
"What happened was that I was surrounded by a bright light and was asked some questions, the portal gave me the opportunity to completely remake who I was right down to my gender. After I woke up, I searched for a place to set up camp and tried to make the best of the situation that I could. Months later I was suddenly back though the portal and back here in Equestria, the details of what exactly I did there are still a blur to me even today. Now that I think about it I probably should have made a list for her listing some of the strange items that I had to ingest do, well anyways I got to go I'm needed at a recording studio in order to make a music video bye-bye." and just like that he left to help film "Let's Go and Meet the Bronies" (can be found here by: JanAnimations.)
"Wait, Discord! You need to work on that list Rarity will need it after she sends her first report!" Twilight called after him.
