After a bitter breakup with Flash Sentry, Twilight heads to the human world to forget about him. But Sunset Shimmer is there to help pick up those pieces.
It has been two years since Twilight stepped through a portal into an alternate dimension, Twilight is asked by Princess Celestia to return to that world to learn more about humans and their way of life. Twilight after a bitter breakup with Flash Sentry reluctantly agrees to this, when arriving a familiar face greets her and a spark of love is ignited.

Twilight Sparkle’s POV
I sit at the balcony of my library lamenting over the past few days, and the argument that shattered my heart…
Flashback: One week prior…
I was crying at seeing my coltfriend Flash Sentry in bed with another mare, words were screamed and accusations flew but none of it mattered since in the end it always ended in the same way like in any cheap romance novel, the cheated mare leaves crying and picking up the shattered pieces of her heart. A knock at my bedroom door shakes me from my thoughts “It’s open.” I croaked my throat sore from the screaming I did earlier. The door opens to reveal my assistant/son Spike in the doorway; he walks towards me and wraps his scaly arms around not needing to ask if I was okay, he knew that I was heartbroken and that he would be there to support me no matter what.
With that thought a fresh wave of tears came from my eyes, Spike wraps his arms tightly around me as I let out all of the sadness and hurt that I was going through, soon I was exhausted from crying and I fall asleep.
The next morning came with the usual visit from friends and of course they learned about the infidelity on Flash Sentry’s part, suffice it to say they were incensed. It may be the one of the few times I will ever see Fluttershy so livid outside of using The Stare and Pinkie whenever somepony breaks her patented promises. It was the combined efforts of Applejack, Rarity and surprisingly Rainbow Dash that prevented Fluttershy and Pinkie to actively hunt down my former coltfriend and beat him within an inch of his life. Rarity calmly points out that I had a final say as to Flash Sentry’s infidelity and that they should support her decision no matter what it is.
It was one of those moments that I was eternally grateful that I have such wonderful friends that cared so much about me no matter what.
End Flashback…
I thanked the girls for their support and I asked them to let me sort out my feelings about it. The girls respectfully given the much needed space that I desired, I look out over Ponyville and I could see a few couples enjoying their day together and a pang of emptiness hits me, I try to forget the feeling of loneliness of being separated from him I turn my attention towards the book that I was reading.
“Twilight! Letter from Celestia!” Spike calls from the foyer as he runs up the stairs with said letter in his claws; I gently levitated the letter from him and open it.
Dearest Twilight Sparkle.
I have heard of your recent breakup with Flash Sentry and my heart goes out to you, nopony deserves to have their heart broken like that, rest assured that Flash Sentry is receiving the proper punishment for his actions. Spike mentioned that you have become depressed and somewhat unresponsive; I believe that a change of scenery is what is needed to get your mind off of your current situation I wish for you to come to the Crystal Empire alone I may have a solution that may help you.

I smile at the fact that Celestia was concerned for my wellbeing and curious at the same time at her request to meet me at the Crystal Empire. Then again that was when I first met Flash for the first time; I am not counting the incident where I met his counterpart on that alternate world. Still, it would be nice to meet Cadence and Shining again, I mentally wince at the fact that by now Cadence is doing everything in her power to stop my brother from giving Flash a royal beating as much as he deserves it Princess Celestia would have any final say in the matter.
“So what did the princess want?” Spike asks curiously as I grab my saddlebag and my crown.
“Princess Celestia wants to meet me in the Crystal Empire and for me to come alone.” I said while grabbing a few books and placing them inside the bag as well as a few pieces of parchment and some ink bottles and quills.
“Why would she ask you to come alone?” Spike asks me.
“I can assume it has to do with…that incident. In any case it has been awhile since I actually went to the Crystal Empire.” I said making sure that I have the necessary books that I need. Spike comes up to me and gives me a small hug “Hey, don’t worry about it Twi. You said it yourself that everything is going to be alright.” He said releasing the hug.
I smile at him “Thanks Spike. I promise that it won’t take long.” I said as I use my magic to open the door ‘hold down the book fort while I’m away okay?” I tell him and I exit my home/workplace.
Five hours later…
I stretch getting the kinks out of my spine and I stretch my wings to relieve any tension in them as I step off the train and make my way towards the palace, I slept a good portion of the ride not wanting to think about what Celestia has in store for me. Not to mention as of late I haven’t been getting enough sleep due to the recent events that has happened. I sigh lightly to myself when I spot the entrance to the palace, the guards see me and uncross the spears that bar my entrance, inside the entrance was a Crystal Guard who promptly escorted me to the throne room, there sitting in the throne is my foalsitter/sister in-law/fellow princess Cadence and sitting right next to her is my teacher/fellow princess Celestia.
“Twilight welcome. I hope your trip here wasn’t too tiring.” Cadence says forgoing our traditional greeting.
“It’s good to be here Cadence, it was okay, and I took a nap on the way over here. By the way has my brother found out?” I trail off.
“Yes, sadly he did and it took everything I had not to let him go and harm him.” Cadence replied sighing a bit.
“I’m sure that Celestia and Luna will take proper action against him.” I said.
“You misunderstand; I meant not to harm him without me to help him do it.” I stare at her with a slightly poleaxed look on my face, Cadence takes notice of this “Just because I help spread love does not mean I tolerate cheating on love.” She clarifies.
Celestia clears her throat bringing our attention towards her “We can discuss Flash Sentry’s infidelity tomorrow. But for now I think that we should rest up, we have a lot to prepare for in the morning.” Celestia says cryptically, I nod and turn around to follow the guard to my assigned room, the same one that Sunset Shimmer snuck in two years ago and stole my crown/Element of Magic. I let my thoughts drift as I think back on that adventure that took place on that alternate version of Equestria I wonder how everyone is doing since I left? I ask myself as I let myself drift off to sleep.
Me: I’m amazed by the sheer number of favorites and the likes for this story! I do not own MLP in any shape or form.
I open my eyes to see the morning sun streaming through the open window, a gentle breeze blows through it making the curtain dance in the wind, I hear an unfamiliar sound of crystals hitting against each other in a chaotic but harmonic tune, I look around for the source of the music to see a set of crystals in a circle held with string some longer and others shorter with a small crystal sphere in the center of the circle with a string below it and a flat crystal attached to it, the wind was blowing against the flat piece of crystal making the sphere bounce against the other crystals gently.
“Good morning your highness.” A voice spoke up breaking me from my thoughts. I turn to see a crystal guard at the entrance of the room; he takes notice of my stare at the object “I see that you have noticed the wind chimes.” He said.
“Wind chimes?” I ask curiously.
“They’re a recently crafted art here. Each of the crystals are hollow and at different lengths to produce different sounds and are held by string, Crystal Song the pony that makes these discovered the crystals by accident and figured out that they can be used to make music. After a bit of trial and error she created the wind chimes, Princess Cadence was enraptured by the music they make and commissioned several of them for each room.” The guard explained.
I smiled at that and close my eyes or a moment to listen to the music and for that moment everything was gone but the gentle music calming me I have to ask Cadence to get me one of these when I leave. I thought to myself, I open my eyes to see the guard standing passively by “Oh! Umm…is there anything else?” I ask him.
“Yes if you are ready I am to escort you to the dining hall for breakfast.” I nod at that and we leave the room and I follow him to the dining hall where I could see the princesses in a discussion.
“I say we hang him by his stallionhood and leave him there until he learns his lesson.” Princess Luna said.
“I think that we should tie him up and have every one of his ex-girlfriends get their pound of flesh from him before we sic Twilight on him.” Cadence suggested.
“I believe that I have a solution but it can wait, good morning Twilight, we were discussing ways to punish your former coltfriend.” Princess Celestia said.
I wince at that “Look not that he deserves to be punished I think that he will get his in due time. So I don’t want the three of you to punish him on my behalf.” I said to them.
“But…” Cadence started to speak.
“I mean it; I do not want the three of you conspiring to hurt my ex-coltfriend no matter how much he deserves it.” I said sternly.
“Celestia frowns but sighs “If that is what you wish we will not punish him for his actions.” She said making Cadence and Luna speak up in protest “Twilight wants to move on with her life, drudging up the past serves no purpose than to create more heartache for her.” She said raising a hoof to silence them ending the current topic “Now Twilight I believe I owe you an explanation for my cryptic letter.” She said to me “You see after your adventure in that alternate world I became intrigued by it. So I decided to examine the magic that was used to create it and after a while I could not make any progress in trying to extend the window of opening longer than three days, so I abandoned the project and left the research papers in my study forgotten.” Celestia explained.
Luna spoke up “I asked my sister if I could take a look at the notes that she had written and discovered a small flaw in her calculations and corrected it and presented it to her. You can now travel between the worlds with a seven day window rather than a three day window as before.”
Finally Cadence spoke “The reason for this is that we want you to return to that world and learn all you can from it so that we can possibly one day communicate with them and possibly make a treaty with the inhabitants of that world.”
I was shocked at this “Bu-but what about my friends? What about my duties as a princess? What about my role as an Element of Harmony?” I asked.
“Part of your duties as a princess is being an ambassador to other nations, a role that I feel that you can perform quite well. Your friends shall be informed of this and reassured that you will be fine. And as for your role as an Element of Harmony Luna held the Element prior to her banishment and has graciously volunteered to temporarily take your place until your return.” Celestia said reassuring me.
“But…” I started to say until Luna gently placed her hoof on my shoulder.
“Twilight, my sister trusts you to fulfill this duty and I agree with her that you are most qualified for this task seeing as you have the most experience concerning that alternate world even if it was for a short time.” Luna said calming me down.
I laugh slightly “Funny thing was that last night I was wondering how the friends I made over there were doing since I left. I guess that I’m going to find out then. When am I leaving?” I ask Celestia.
“In two days, this will give you time to properly prepare for the journey.” She tells me.
I nod towards her “I promise that I will not let you down.” I vowed to my mentor and with those words we started to eat breakfast with polite conversation and gossip filling the room.
Two day later: Mirror Room.
Two days had passed since the announcement of my new assignment I stand in front of the magic mirror steeling myself for the journey, standing behind me were Celestia, Luna and Cadence waiting to see me off.
“Before you leave we have a few items that you will need to take with you.” Celestia said presenting me with two bracelets, the first bracelet matches my coat color and the second is a deep amber color and each bracelet was inlayed with sapphires, the next item is a indigo crystal and the final item is a scroll “These items will be of use to you, the bracelets will allow you to access your magic while there but due to the lack of magic that the alternate world has your use of magic will be limited to short range teleportation, magic bolts and minor levitation, the first bracelet is yours and the second shall go to Sunset Shimmer. The reason for this is because I wish to mend fences with my erstwhile student and I believe this would be a good start. The crystal will allow you to temporarily override the magic blocking the portal in case you need to return quickly. All you need to do is to press the crystal against the surface of the portal to activate it, and the scroll is to be delivered to Sunset Shimmer it explains your assignment and I wish for her to help in this regard since she lives there now I believe that she would be the perfect person to help you adjust to staying there for an extended period.” Celestia explains to me as she places the items inside my saddlebags.
I look at the mirror for a moment before turning my attention towards the princesses “Well this is it I suppose.” I said hesitantly.
Celestia nuzzles me gently “Don’t worry my faithful student, you’ll do fine.” She said to me as Luna hugs me followed by Cadence. I walk towards the mirror; I stop and swallow before stepping through…
Celestia’s POV
“I know that we promised that we would not punish Flash Sentry for his actions, but something must be done. I cannot let this pass.” Luna said to me a moment after Twilight steps through the mirror.
I smile as a plan forms in my head “Cadence, isn’t Flash Sentry due for a shore leave soon?” I ask her.
My niece thinks for a moment “Yes, yes he is. In fact he’s scheduled for one next week. Why do you ask?” she inquires.
“Oh I was thinking of sending him somewhere as part of his shore leave.” I said.
Luna looked at me as though I had gone insane “Oh where are you going to send him?” she asks sarcastically.
“First off nice use of sarcasm, and second I think that he would enjoy his vacation in Ponyville.” I said impishly as I made plans to make sure that Flash Sentry receives a “Proper” welcome in Ponyville.
Luna’s POV
“I do believe that my sister has been spending too much time with Discord.” I said to my niece which Cadence nods in agreement as my sister leaves the two of us.
Me: Sorry for the delay, my inner slacker messed me up something fierce. But now I'm ready to continue on, typical disclaimers apply I do not own anything so don't try to sue me. Oh and to avoid any confusion I will refer the Human Celestia as Celestia and the Equestrian version as the Princess.
As soon as I stepped through the mirror the sensation of being in a vortex hits as well as the explosion of color that accompanies it, even though I've felt this sensation two and a half years ago I could not help but feel nauseous and trying to maintain consciousness long enough to actually step out onto the other side. Soon enough I could see the literal light at the end of the tunnel and mentally braced myself for impact, I manage to put one hoof through the mirror only for it to emerge as what's called a "foot" and I repeated the process with my other hoof and slowly but surely I emerge onto the other side looking like I did when I first arrived. I wobble for a bit trying to adjust to my newfound center of gravity thankfully enough I maintain my balance and I take a tentative step forward.
I look over at my appearance and found that it was the same as it was the first time I arrived I immediately open my bag and look inside to see the bracelets were now resized to fit a human wrist, I grab mine and slip it on and I feel a slight rush of power as it shrinks to make it harder to remove unless I willed it to become large enough to slip my wrist out. I concentrated on the second bracelet and my magical aura surrounds it and gently floats to me, I mentally confirm that the bracelet was working properly I place the other one back into my bag I grab the scroll that was to be given to Sunset Shimmer and see that it was undamaged I place the scroll back into the bag and looked at the entrance to Canterlot High and noted that it looked better than the last time I was here. Sunset apparently borrowed designs from Canterlot and Cloudsdale and meshed them in seamlessly.
Noting that I make my way towards the entrance trying to remember what I can use my newly acquired appendages for I quietly open the glass door and enter the building I look around and I could see the various trophies that was in the display case but one particular photograph catches my attention, it was the one that was taken by Photo Finish the night of the Fall Formal dance with me and my friends, I smile at the memory, I remember that it was the first time I had ever ridden in a 'car' as they called it and that this particular one was called a 'limousine' it was slightly terrifying but at the same time exhilarating.
I tear my thoughts away from the memory and decided to focus on finding Principal Celesia's office, I decided to see if I can ask around and see if they knew where the Principal's office is, the last time I was here I got away with the fact that I was posing as a transfer student, I was surprised that nopony actually called me out on that. This time I am arriving under the pretense of being a foreign exchange student, which is technically accurate considering my status as a princess. I spot a couple of random students and ask them for help which they were glad to be of assistance, moments later I was standing in front of Principal Celestia's office, for some reason I was nervous, I mean I faced Nightmare Moon, a god of Chaos and Disharmony, a Changeling Queen, and a crystal obsessed King with delusions of grandeur this should be nothing. So with a deep breath I open the door.
When I open the door I get the feeling of déjà vu as I see Principal Celestia with her nose buried within a file looking over the details I decided to stand there and wait for Celestia to acknowledge my presence, after a few moments it appeared that Celestia was engrossed in whatever is in that file, I lightly cough to catch her attention, Celestia tosses the file into the air with an audible "AH!" and the file folder lands in front of me open. But instead of papers within the folder there was a magazine open and inside was a 'woman' if I remember my human terminology correctly lying naked with a seductive look on her face and her face is looking somewhat familiar to me, it's as though I should know it but I cannot place where I've seen it.
Celestia stammered and hastily pick up the file "Um-um welcome back Princess Twilight." She says hastily and quickly grabs a few papers and started to organize them.
I shrug my shoulders ignoring her behavior "It's good to see you again Principal Celestia." I greet her formally.
"Why are you here? Don't tell me that there's an imminent threat coming?" Celestia asks me looking around nervously.
I shake my head "No, my teacher sent me here to learn more about your world so that we may one day contact your leaders and seek a possible treaty." I explain to her.
Celestia nodded and presses a button on metal box near her "Sister, can you please send Sunset Shimmer to my office? There's someone that wishes to enroll here and Sunset is the perfect candidate to show our new student around." She says and lets her finger off the button, at my curious glance at the device Celestia explains "It's called an intercom Twilight, it allows me to talk to Vice Principal Luna and vice versa or I can use it to make a school wide announcement and even to individual classrooms." She spoke just as there was a knock at the door "Come in." she spoke and the door opens to reveal Sunset Shimmer.
"You wanted to see…Twilight?" she says shocked that I had returned.
"I heard that movie was terrible and the book series was worse." Celestia joked breaking the tension that was in the room. And before I could do anything Sunset launches herself at me and hugs me deeply, after a moment she pulls away.
"It's really good to see you again Twilight." She says absently wiping a stray tear in her eye.
"Sunset, what's wrong?" I ask her concerned for her.
"I'm just happy to see you again; I never got a chance to thank you for helping me see that I screwed up, and I've been doing better since the whole Fall Formal Fiasco." Sunset said to me.
"It's true; Sunset has become a model student pulling perfect grades and often volunteers for tutoring other students." Celestia confirms. "I had planned on enrolling Twilight here but since she has no previous school records we'll have to say that she was homeschooled until recently." Celestia explains.
Sunset nods "But since she's from my old world she has no knowledge of the minimal requirements in order to become a student." She pointed out.
Celestia nods "That is why I am tasking you to help Twilight learn enough about this world to actively pass for an average teenage girl about to graduate high school." She explained.
Sunset looked thoughtful "Since she's new here she doesn't have a place to stay until she returns in two and a half years from now." she mused aloud.
That's when I remembered something "Oh! I forgot Princess Celestia wanted me to give you these." I said handing Sunset the bracelet and letter from the Princess, curiously Sunset takes the bracelet and letter and opens it to read the contents inside at first a look of confusion crosses her face then it gradually starts to look remorseful until Sunset puts the letter down and cries into my shoulder. After a few moments she pulls away and wipes her eyes on the jacket that she was wearing, she picks up the letter and hands it to me; I gently take the letter and proceed to read it wondering what made Sunset cry like that.
Dear Sunset Shimmer
As a way to atone for my mistakes as a teacher I would like to apologize for not doing more for you. When I chose you as my student I was blinded by my own ambitions and aspirations for you, as a teacher I should've acted better and try to help you but I was too arrogant and prideful in the fact that my student was excelling in all aspects. Then came the incident with the mirror when you left to peruse your own ambitions it felt like when my sister Princess Luna was corrupted by her own self-loathing and hatred towards me and I was forced to use the Elements of Harmony to imprison her in the very same moon that she had control over, that day was the worst that I had ever felt. It felt like I had in a way murdered my own sister, words could not describe how I felt afterwards, but eventually I started to take apprentices. At first it was to pass the centuries while I had to wait until my sister's return but as time and students went on I discovered a joy in teaching that helped fill the gap that was created when Princess Luna was banished.
When you left I realized that I had made many mistakes in my teaching methods, so I started to think back to all of my previous students and picked apart every lesson that I had for them and the end results, out of all of my students both you and Princess Twilight had shown true potential while the others faded into obscurity. I wish to start making amends by asking a favor from a teacher to a former pupil and please help Princess Twilight adjust to the world that you call home.
I know I am asking a lot of you and I would be eternally grateful if you were to do this for me. Even if you refuse I still wish to make amends by giving you this bracelet, while worn you can use magic while in a human form but the spells are limited to short range teleportation, minor levitation and magic bolts. I know that this may not be much but I hope that this is a step in the right direction.
Know that you'll always have a place to return to when you feel ready to hear an apology from an old nag that was foolish.

I smile at the letter and I reach out to hug Sunset, after a moment we separate and for a moment I note the smell of cinnamon coming from Sunset's hair Must be her shampoo. I thought as I let Sunset let out her feelings. Soon Sunset was composed enough to start talking normally.
"Principal Celestia, with your permission I would like to take Twilight clothes shopping and help her as she familiarizes herself with the city and to go over the material that will be needed for her new life here like a valid birth certificate and so forth." Sunset explains.
Celestia looked pensive for a moment before answering "Actually I know someone that may be able to help with the legal paperwork he owes me a favor that may need to be cashed in." Celestia replied.
Sunset raises an eyebrow and decided not to ask and grabs my arm "Come on, we've got no school today and there's money in my pocket just begging to be spent." She says and pulls me out of the room before I could protest.
Principal Celestia's POV
"Well it looks like this school year is going to be very interesting. Now where was I? Oh yes." I said as I looked at the nude photo of the centerfold for this month's Playcolt Magazine Hmm, Fleur you can give me French lessons anytime. I thought to myself as my thoughts drifted towards a steamy encounter.

Sunset pulls at my hand leading me to the school’s parking lot where I spot a crimson red car with Sunset’s Cutie Mark emblazoned on the doors, she reaches into her pockets and pulls out a set of keys with some sort of device on it, she presses one of the buttons and an audible click came from the car and motions for me to get in. I get inside and buckle the seatbelt, Sunset follows suit and turns the key start the engine, from what I had gathered from my short stint in the school library the car is propelled by an internal combustion engine similar to how the Friendship Express runs on steam.
Soon the two of us were on the road towards the “mall” the drive is nice but the silence is uncomfortable so I decided on asking Sunset how my friends were “So, um how have the others been doing since I left?” I ask her trying to break the silence.
“They’re okay, they’ve missed you a whole lot and wished that they could’ve went with you, you know? Fluttershy especially since the becoming an anthromorphic pony.” She answered “What about you? How were things when you returned home?” she asked me.
“Well, not much. Tirek escaped Tartus and nearly destroyed Equestria if me and my friends didn’t discover a power similar to the Elements of Harmony.” I explained.
“I’ve read about Tirek while I was studying under the Princess.” Sunset replied.
“If we hadn’t found a way to defeat him…” I shuddered at the memory of my friends trapped in those spheres listless, barely moving and practically devoid of all hope.
“Here we are, Canterlot Mall.” Sunset spoke up, I look at the large building that we were approaching it was massive; it was at least three stories tall in the shape of a horseshoe.
I gapped at the massive building “It’s so big.” I spoke in awe.
Sunset laughs “Wait until you step inside, then your mind will be blown.” She said as the two of us enter, I could feel my lower jaw drop at the number of stores that the mall had, Sunset pulls out a small notepad and a pen and starts to write in it “Let’s see, for the moment we’ll have to stick with the basic essentials, shoes, socks, underwear and regular clothes. Then some standard textbooks and finally if I can afford it a cellphone, preferably a newer model rather than a cheap throwaway that seem to crop up in every cheesy spy movie.” Sunset mutters to herself, before dragging me with her.
A few hours later…
I sit in the metal chair in the food court exhausted from the number of stores that Sunset and I went to. I looked at a nearby clock and it was just past six o’clock and a steady crowd of people starts to stream into the building, I ignore the growing volume in favor of food, while I may be an omnivore now I doubt that I’ll actually eat meat anytime soon I’ll just settle for a nice salad. Sunset on the other hand, is casually eating a hamburger, fries and drinking soda as though she’s been doing it her whole life. All of a sudden there was a group of people in matching black jackets with a white star on the back started to dance to music that I did not know the language to.
Sunset raises an eyebrow at the performance “Huh, did not see that one coming.” She comments before the group dissipates.
“What in Celestia’s name was that?” I ask her surprised at the impromptu performance, it eerily reminds me of whenever Pinkie decides to perform a musical number and all of Ponyville participates.
Sunset merely shrugs “That was a flash mob. Basically they show up in a crowded place and randomly does a dance number to a prerecorded song, though I don’t recognize the artist.” Sunset mused.
“It reminds me of whenever Pinkie performs a musical number and we get involved in it.” I comment.
“Unlike Equestria, something like this has to be planned months or weeks in advanced, not to mention the choreography has to be carefully detailed.” Sunset explains to me. I nod my head and the rest of the meal continued on with some idle small talk. Half an hour later we exit the mall and Sunset drives towards a building with multiple floors “You can stay with me at my place Twilight; I know it’s not much but my apartment is big enough for the both of us.” Sunset tells me, as I step inside her “Apartment” as she called it and I was amazed at how spacious it was though a little bare, just a couch, a kitchen, a television, a small desk with a computer and printer on it, a table with a couple of chairs and a bed. It looked like it was only a place to grab a quick nap than an abode.
Sunset sheepishly rubs the back of her head in embarrassment “Sorry about this, when I bought the place this was all I needed so I didn’t see the need to get anything else.” Sunset explained.
