Vinyl leaned over Octavia's bed, crying into her slowly rising and falling chest.
"I'm so sorry Tavi" She wept. Octavia's eyes fluttered open.
"W-who are you?" She stammered, her eyebrows creasing into a confused frown. Vinyl's heart fell into her stomach.
"You don't remember me?"

It was a warm sunny day in Ponyville. Octavia and Vinyl were waiting at the train station, for the couple had booked a trip to the Crystal Kingdom. Vinyl sighed, sitting on the bench.
"When will this god damn train arrive?" She moaned. "It's bloody roasting!" Octavia smiled.
"Be patient Vinyl, it will come" She assured. Vinyl groaned.
"DJ-Pon3 doesn't wait!" She exclaimed.
"Well, she will have to break that rule" Octavia smirked. Vinyl smirked a little. At last the train rolled up to the station.
"Finally!" Vinyl smiled. The pair walked down the platform. Octavia looked at the driver. He was half-asleep, his eyes fluttering closed now and then.
"It must be the heat" Octavia said to herself. "I do so hope he can stay awake" Vinyl had walked ahead. She spun round.
"This is our cart!" She grinned, leaping up the stairs. Tavi followed. She couldn't help but feel a little nervous after seeing the driver.

Vinyl stuck her head out of the window, laughing as the wind blew her electric blue mane back. Her red eyes were shining with excitement. Octavia stuck her head out the other window, looking at the beautiful view of the orangey pink sunrise. She felt a sudden pain in her stomach, groaning a little. She sat on the chair, clutching her round belly. Vinyl saw her and walked over.
"You okay Tavi?" She asked worriedly. Tavi smiled.
"I'm fine, travel sickness that's all"
"You want a drink or something?" She replied, still worried.
"No, no Vinyl I'm fine!" Vinyl nodded, opening up her window again and sticking her head out. The train was going faster, alot faster. Her eyes began to water, but she saw no danger. They sped on, coming to a dangerous cliffside. It was bumpy and mostly straight, but then the train began to approach a sharp corner. Vinyl began to get slightly worried, but shrugged it off. Then, it happened.

The train came to the corner. it didn't slow down, and tipped to the side. It came off the tracks all together, falling off the cliffside.
"Vinyl!!" Octavia cried, leaping out of her chair and pulling Vinyl away from the window. They were thrown around the cart.
"Tavi!!" Vinyl screamed. Octavia was being thrown around helplessly. She was unconscious and her head had a violent wound. Blood trickled down the side. The train hit the bottom, and everything for Vinyl went black.

Vinyl's red eyes fluttered open.
"W-where am I?" She groaned. Her blurry vision sharpened, and she saw three ponies gathered around her. They were all familiar.

"Nurse! She's awake!" She said one of them. Her sea-blue coat seemed to shine in the dull light.
"L-lyra?" Vinyl stammered. The pony smiled.
"The one and only!" The other pony whacked the back of Lyra's head. It was Bon-Bon.
"Lyra!" She scowled, turning back to Vinyl. "You were involved in a train crash" She explained. Suddenly, the horrors flashed by her eyes once more. It wasn't the sight of corpses and the impacts of the train hitting off the cliff. It was Octavia, unconscious and wounded.

"Octavia!?!" Vinyl cried, sitting and and looking around for her friend. Nurse Redheart gasped.
"Stay down Vinyl, you're injured!" When she said that, Vinyl noticed the stabbing pain at the back of her neck. She gasped, falling back onto the pillows. She closed her eyes, trying not to think of the worst.
"Is Octavia okay?" She whispered through quiet sobs. Lyra and Bon Bon looked at each other and bit their lips. Vinyl saw their looks and was getting worried again. "Where is she?!" She cried, tears streaming down her cheeks. Nurse Redheart stepped forward.

"Vinyl, Octavia had suffered major damage to the brain and has broken both her arms. She needs to get an operation to the brain so they can remove a blood clod" She said quietly. Vinyl gasped. She felt a massive big kick in her stomach.
"Will she live?" Vinyl whispered.
"It's to soon to tell" Redheart whispered. Vinyl got out of the bed, without thinking, and she galloped down the corridors. The pain in her neck was hardly there, but slowly it was increasing.
"OCTAIVA?!" Vinyl screamed frantically. Another two nurses and a doctor chased after her.

Meanwhile, a maze of corridors away there was a crowd of doctors crowded around a bed. One of them stuck a syringe into the patients limp arm. She had a gas mask over her mouth and nose, and her violet were half open half closed. Octavia fluttered in and out of conciousness several times, her heart rate going faster every beat.
"We need to operate now, before it's too late" Said one of the doctors as he stuck another syringe into her right arm. One of the nurses nodded and turned to another nurse who stood at the back of the room. The two went at each end of the portable bed and began to push it to theatre. The doctors followed with an incubator and oxygen tanks.

Vinyl lay in her hospital bed, shaking. Her eyes were squeezed shut, tears rimming the edges. At the back of the room sat a nurse. Her head was leaning on her hoof, which was propped up on the arm of the small plastic chair. It was early in the morning, way before sunrise even came to mind. Several hours passed, and the unicorn still couldn't sleep. She opened her eyes, only to see a dull white ceiling. She sighed, sniffing a couple times. She sat up slowly. There was a glass of water on the table next to the bed. Vinyl took the glass and gulped down all of the water. Almost everything she did reminded her of Octavia.

Sunrise finally came. Vinyl was finally asleep, but she jumped awake at the sudden sound of a trumpet fanfare. Her red eyes darted to the door. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna stood at the doorway. Luna looked devistated, her eyes fixed to the ground and her ears pulled back. Celestia also looked upset, but she kept her chin high.
"Vinyl Scratch?" She asked. Vinyl nodded timidly. "We apologize for waking you" Celestia smiled weakly. Luna looked at her.
"We understand that you were involved in a train crash the other day?" Vinyl nodded again, holding back tears. One slipped out of her eye, but she quickly wiped it away. Luna looked up at Celestia. Celestia nodded, as if saying Keep going, it's almost over with. Luna carried on. "You're friend Octavia has been saved, but we have found out that it was no ordinary train crash." She swallowed.
"Vinyl, what we're trying to say is the train crash was planned. Investigations had concurred that someone was trying to kill you." Celestia frowned. Vinyl gasped. "It was apparently a stallion named Meadow Song. He was jealous of how close you and Octavia were"
"Meadow Song?" Vinyl gulped. "Octavia's ex."

"Meadow song?" Vinyl gulped. "Octavia's ex."

Vinyl stepped out into the sunlight. She had a large cast over her knee, around her neck and under her body. She sighed, looking back at the hospital. A crowd of ponies suddenly appeared. Their cameras flashed wildly. Vinyl winced at the bright flashes.
"Vinyl! Is it true that the train crash was to kill you?"
"Hello Mrs. Scratch, can you please tell us why you had a little fiasco in the hospital corridors?"
"DJ-PON3! When will your new single be out?!" Vinyl felt her heart drop. How did they find out? She looked behind at the nurse who was escorting her out. She was flipping through a bunch of blood money. She saw Vinyl looking at her and gave a quick smile, her cheeks turning red. She bolted back into the hospital. Vinyl snarled, about to go after her when she let it slide. Let it go, Scratch. She took a deep breath and breathed out. She began to walk forward, pushing weakly past the paparazzi.

When Vinyl arrived home, her cottage was surrounded by more reporters. She sighed, and climbed into bed. Vinyl ran her hoof down where Octavia usually lay. She suddenly heard a bang. The door had been forced open and the reporters flooded into her bedroom.
"GO AWAY!" Vinyl screamed, throwing a picture at them. They backed away, then took more pictured. She threw a pillow, knocking a camera out of a young stallions hand. The camera shattered. They all gasped and bolted off, shutting the door behind them. It was that moment when Vinyl realized what she had done.

She crawled out of bed, looking a the photo she had thrown. It was a picture of Octavia. She was on stage, playing her Cello. Her mane was swinging from side to side from her movement, and her face concentrated. Her beautiful violet eyes were slightly open, looking into Vinyls. There was a slight smirk at the corner of her mouth. The photo had been ruined from the big crack across her eyes. Vinyl burst into tears, pressing her head to the picture. She curled up and cried herself to sleep on the mauve carpet.
