Rainbow Dash lives an exciting life and is swiftly becoming the most daring, awesome pegasus in all of Equestria. She would gladly give it all up, though, just to confess her love to Applejack.
The door to Carousel Boutique opened.
Rarity looked out, and her eyes immediately brightened. "Rainbow Dash!"
"Hey." Rainbow Dash lightly shoved a parcel through the open door and lifted a clipboard. "Would you mind signing here?"
"Where have you been, darling?" Rarity stammered. "Today was... erm..." She fidgeted. "There was an awards ceremony, Rainbow. Did... did you not get the invite?"
"I've got a bunch of packages left to deliver." Rainbow waved the clipboard. "Rarity, would you mind?"
"Oh... uhm..." Rarity's eyes fluttered. "But of course." She levitated the sheet and drew her name on the bottom of it. "I must say. I'm awfully worried, darling. What's so important that you couldn't attend the Mayor's ceremony?"
"I've got a lot of work to do, is all."
"Yes, but even that—"
"Need to keep to my promises. Sure you understand."
"I... suppose so..." Rarity bore a crooked smile. She levitated the clipboard back. "Well, in any case, Rainbow, goddess-speed."
"Mmmhmmm." Rainbow turned tail and trotted back to her chariot. She tossed her clipboard in.
Cl-Clank! The clipboard landed hard. The chariot was completely empty at that point.
Nostrils flaring, Rainbow attached herself to the wagon, flapped her wings, and took off.
Half an hour later, relieved of her work apron and wagon, Rainbow Dash sat on the rooftop of the Banner Guild warehouse.
She sighed, hugging herself and staring lethargically across the lengths of Ponyville.
Off in the distance, Sugarcube Corner lingered bright and beaming in the sunlight.
Rainbow blinked.
A few bright figures with familiar coat colors lingered around the front entrance. They faced one another, and the air shook with the familiar sound of laughter, distant and dwindling.
Rainbow clenched her jaws shut. She closed her eyes, exhaled, and flapped her wings.
Picking herself up, Rainbow hovered in the air above Banner Guild. She turned around, sweeping Ponyville with her eyes. At last, her eyes fell upon a familiar sight. With a dull expression, she drifted northeast, heading towards the front windows of a bar just as its lights were flickering on.

Aaand back to the drinking. I pity her liver.
Oh, come on!!!
Okay, just when are Rainbow's idiot friends (with the exception of Flutters, of course) going to finally get a clue that something really bad is going on with her?!
That she missed an awards ceremony that the old Dash wouldn't have, should be a huge, major clue right there!!!
I swear, Skirts, you're gonna wind up killing us, as much as you're slowly killing Dash, before this epic-length thing is over with!
Rainbrood Dash
6969584 Thing is, flutters knows that shits bad, but does absolutely nothing, which to me is kind of worse.
Rainbow Dash had better be careful, her liver's liable to leave her for the sake of the kidneys.
Ba-dum, tish.

6969664 Hmmmm, good point, that.
Very good point.

Somehow, with all that's going on in her life atm, I think that her liver is about the least of her problems.
6969584
I think you're going overboard with that. Her friends are going to respect her personal space if she wants to be aloof. They feel that they are good friends enough that she will come to them for help. They aren't mind-readers and Fluttershy is keeping her word to Rainbow Dash in the hopes that she can get her crap together.
I've just gotta compliment the epically simple story wrapped up in this sentence. Next time you don't think you're a great writer, remember that only the best writers are capable of summing up so much about a character and a situation in one sentence. Before this she would of at least begrudgingly say hi to Rarity. And that was when she still had deleveries to do. The fact that she barely acknowledges her friend, AND she's done for the day, I must admit is fairly Depressing.
6969821 That's come solid comprehension, didn't notice the subtext there. Rarity's also the member of the Mane 6 that Dash has the least in common with so there's that to consider too, as the order seems to go:
1.) Fluttershy
2.) Applejack
3.) Pinkie
4.) Twilight
5.) Rarity
6969763 Yeah, maybe.
But there's a time to give personal space, and to know when one of your friends is acting totally against the person that you've always known them to be.
Hence why I said what I did about Rainbow missing the Mayor's award ceremony.
The Dash that they know; the old Dash; would never have missed such a thing, because of the awesome pony that she is.
Her missing that; deliberately missing that, and then deflecting conversation about it?
I don't know about you, but to me, that's a definite red flag that something's wrong.

Well, Rarity has been dressed down before about her snout being places where it shouldn't be even by the mare in question. And it's been less than a day; The rest of them can't ask if Dash doesn't want to be seen. Still makes it RD's inaction that is the biggest obstacle.
You also have to think that they have their own problems, as well.
6969584 to be fair fluttershy has been pretty useless as well
6969584
As far as I read, Rarity did pick up on something being wrong, but she also respects Dash's right to privacy. If Dash doesn't want to share, she's not going to pry.
She has also praised Dash for the reduction in her narcissism in previous chapters.
And regardless, she knew Dash was on the clock, if Dash wants to talk, which she doesn't, she'll come around after work is done.
Considering she's on thin ice with Stamps as it is, and she really needs the bits to pay that rent/get her potion/plan her trip, if she loses banner company, she's only got weather patrol to rely on, something we've seen doesn't pay her bills enough
Rarity has also stated her opinion that Dash is an introvert, if she wants to be left alone, then the best thing for it is to leave her alone, forcing her to be social when she doesn't want to be would just make things worse.
6969942 True enough, and I concede that point.
6969963 Hmmm, true.
6970045 Okay, I concede to your point, too.
Still holding to my own gut instincts, though.
Rainbow...
Why?
You're not gonna make getting Applejack's heart and hugging it close any easier by being incredibly antisocial!
Also, curse these short chapters.
Is the tornado meet still on? I know that the mega tornado was a thing, but do the teams still need to perform the actual tornado to remove all the debris from the edges of the everfree. Or did the mega-nado manage to clear everything accidentally?
And this is where we came in.
Interesting how we've basically come full circle here. Dash was ignoring her friends for most of the story, started to get back to socializing and becoming a friend again, and now we're back to angsty Dash who wants nothing to do with her friends.
At least angsty Dash from the beginning of the story had a reason to be aloof (all her adventures), the Dash of now just doesn't want to be reminded of how she helped Stu.

To be fair, she was seemingly doing better until the past three chapters. I'm sure Fluttershy hasn't told anyone anything and Rarity is only getting a glimpse that things are wrong again with this one chapter. It'll take some time for Twilight to hear about Rainbow and get her 'need to fix with the magic of friendship' mentality on. The only ways Fluttershy will tell the girls anything would be if Rainbow's life was in danger, like if she almost killed herself drinking or she's pressured into it by the rest of the group.
6971006 Hmmm, good points all the way around.

6971457 I'm not sure which that describes better: the events of Appledashery, or what it's like to read Appledashery.
To think she seemed fine some chapters ago. That's the danger of depression.
Additionally, I'm reaaaaally hoping rarity doesn't brush dash's behaviour off, after all if anyone will notice, rarity will. Especially considering she was the only one to give a crap about her disappearing during the whole applebloom "incident". And speaking of that I swear to fucking God if fluttershy defends/brushes off dash going off on one more goddamn suicide adventure I'm going to have a fit.

*your
Dash's current bout of depression feels like it's taking longer than all of the ones from previous arcs combined. Not the first time Appledashery has felt like a slog, but previously it was a lively slog.
