Rainbow Dash lives an exciting life and is swiftly becoming the most daring, awesome pegasus in all of Equestria. She would gladly give it all up, though, just to confess her love to Applejack.
"Tell Trixie again just why we haven't built the campfire inside the cave?" muttered the unicorn, shivering where she sat.
Applejack sighed. She looked up from where she stoked the flames with twigs and branches. "Cuz on account of the fire only makin' it all smokey and smoggy if I built this here thang in an enclosed area. Dun want none of my friends chokin' and collapsin' from smoke inhalation. Ya feel me?"
"Oh." Trixie blinked. "Trixie believes that's a good reason."
"Well of course it is!" Twilight rolled her eyes, then smirked aside at the mare sitting next to her. "Have you forgotten elementary physics overnight?"
"Harumph! Trixie is an expert on advanced magics! Not Smoke 101!" Trixie nevertheless hugged herself, teeth chattering.
"Trixie, please. It'll warm up soon enough."
"Mmmmm... n-not soon enough for Trixie."
"Here..." Twilight slid over until she was flank-to-flank with the mare. "Does this help?"
"What are you doing, Sparkle?"
"What's it look like?" Twilight smiled. "Sitting close together, our body heat should help you shiver less."
"Please don't sit so close to Trixie."
"Why not?"
"Because..." Trixie sniffled, staring off into the woods beyond the cave entrance. "Trixie... d-doesn't want to spill marshmallows on you."
"But you don't even have a marshmallow yet!"
"... ... ...could candy horse please pass Trixie a marshmallow?"
"Mrmmmmmff!" Pinkie stopped munching on one such treat in question. She speared another marshmallow, then tossed it Trixie's way. "Here ya go!"
Trixie caught the stick in a magical field, then aimed it towards the flames. "There we go." A shuddering breath. "Trixie will warm up soon enough."
Twilight sighed, shaking her head. "You're so weird..."
"Nice of Sparkle to notice."
Applejack smirked. She turned towards the other side of the camp fire. "Thanks, y'all, for grabbin' this here firewood. It's a load off my back."
"It's our pleasure," Fluttershy said, sitting next to Rainbow.
"How can you say that, though?" Rainbow squinted at Applejack. "All day, you've been pulling our wagon full of stuff like nopony's business."
Applejack sighed, leaning back to squat on a log. "Confession time? I ain't exactly fond of fetchin' firewood."
"What's that?!" Rarity finished nibbling daintily on a marshmallow to gasp. "Our honest Applejack actually hates a chore?"
Applejack smirked, waving a hoof. "Guilty as charged. Guess I'm just... not too fond of searchin' for needles in a haystack. When it comes to sortin' through the apples back at the ranch, I'm more than happy—cuz that's for the family business n'such. But... n-not my favorite thang to do."
"Mmmm!" Pinkie gulped another treat and smiled. "Well no wonder you never smile when I give you those Search and Find activity books every Hearth's Warming!"
"Erm... can't say I remember them gifts yer referrin' to, Pinkie. Reckon I just gave them to Apple Bloom."
"So you chose to take advantage of my gifts by giving again?" Pinkie blinked. "Heeeeee!" She bounced in place. "Best pony is best ponyyyyy."
"Well..." Rainbow Dash took a bite out of her marshmallow. "It's not like she's in competition or anything."
"Yeah..." Fluttershy nodded. "Especially not from any sparkly-mane'd pony in a beverage dimension."
Applejack looked over. "The Hay are y'all talkin' about?"
"Oh... nothing." Fluttershy's cheeks turned rosy as she looked at the pegasus beside her. "Just firewood fetching talk."
Rainbow Dash winked.
Fluttershy winked and smiled back.
"... ... ..." Applejack hoisted the entire bag of marshmallows to herself and shoved her hoof in. "That's it. There's somethin' in the water 'round these parts." She shoved a white cluster into her muzzle. "Nomf."
And one by one... the crickets broke out into song around the camp.

I about died from sheer adorableness at the sound AJ made at the end.

Yes, I needed that, Thanks.
Dash and Shy are just.. so adorable when they get all sisterly and stuff like that.
Unpopular opinion. I hate marshmallows. something about the texture just makes my teeth feel weird, and the flavor is just.. sweetly bland.
Blech.
OH NOES! CANNIBALISM!!!
Well... Ive caught up...time to disappear again. Love this ending...just praying that JE isnt crazy...eh..
he is.
The Twixie is strong with this one.
Great, now they're giving AJ the wrong idea.
6790875 Hah! I think a jealous Applejack might have the potential to actually progress the plot! Could you imagine!
Shipping senses... tingling! At least somepony's getting some progress with a ship

Indeed, 'sisterly' moments like that are great. Hopefully with Fluttershy in the loop, she can help Rainbow to open up more.
Slightly surprised that Dash was okay with Fluttershy making the reference to her deeds even in jest, though I suppose the last chapter did hint she was becoming more okay with the idea of telling her friends.
Huh... I'm surprised no one's cried heresy at the denouncing of Epcot as best pony.
I still consider a "Paper Towns" ending a possibility.

6791332 ...just how many of those images exist?
6791358 Enough.
Epcot is still best pony.
Of course, I say this as probably the only person reading this story who doesn't like Applejack.
6791754
Will. Not. React. Aggressively.
On a serious note, though, I can (sort of) see why. Now, personally, she is and always has been one of my favourites next to Dash because Applejack reminds me so much of my family. However, compared to the other mane six members, she seems... Flat. All perfection and few flaws. That does not a favourite character make. So, think what you will.
I'm not sure why I'm replying to you in the first place, honestly. However, feel free to reply and shoot me down or even offer ideas as to why you dislike someone. I make a very good Complaining Post, you know.
6791931 Can't say she reminds me of anyone in my family at all. Probably because I'm from the West Midlands of Britain, where there is nobody who shares any of the traits Applejack signifies at all. Nobody even wears hats here, unless they're chavvy teenagers playing crappy hip hop off their phone speakers and are likely to stab you should you tell them to turn it off.
Eh, I suppose my reason would be the same reason you chose. She's just flat. I'm really not sure what is likeable about her. Her entire character is just the stereotype of a Southern farmer with all the nasty stuff taken out. I've never found her or her stories anything but boring, dull and uninspired. It's not like I really dislike her or anything, I just don't understand why anyone does like her or the reason she exists as a character. So, uh, on the contrary to your post, would you kindly offer ideas as to why you like Applejack?
TrixieSparkly is strong. I support this.

Ah! A fellow Brit! Hello, my Midlands friend, and greetings from Wales. You offer fair points there, and, having visited Central England a fair few times, I can certainly see your point about the hats. I don't have that problem as those grandfather-farmer-golfing-hat-things appear to be a staple in our diet. I wish it wasn't.
I suppose the main reason I do like her is that she is what I strive to be. Honest, dependable and straight to the point. With her, what you see is what you get - no pretences or two-faced behaviour. While I don't like that all her episodes tend to be focused around one pivotal flaw - her stubbornness - I do admire all that she can be. Out of all the characters, she's the one I feel is truly "good." And Fluttershy, of course. I also just always found the relationship (canonically speaking) between Dash and Applejack the most interesting to watch, as it mirrored many a conversation between my friends and I.
... Did that make any sense at all?
6790573
Couldn't agree more.
6792293 Ah, I went to Wales once. It was terrifying. Rain soaking through my clothing or hammering on the roof night and day. At times, it would clear up enough to venture out under the light of grey, and when it was bright enough, you could see the strange men with no shoes and camouflage trousers standing motionlessly in the fields, their stares making you rapidly reconsider venturing into the woods. In the night, the sheep broke into our accomodations and attempted to molest me. On some nights the only sign that they were ever there was just the trail of their extensive defecation. Oh, and I also split my elbows open in a historic castle after one of my brothers fell on me when he played too vigorously with a toy sword. Never again have I dared to venture back in to your strange world.
In regards to Applejack, I'd dare to say that I would probably like her better if she wasn't so good. Some badness would give her character. That goes back to your first point, I suppose. Should one be forced to emulate anybody from the show, Applejack is an obvious choice simply because she's thoroughly content with her lot in life as it is. I certainly get the impression that Applejack's life is complete with farming, family and her friends. I'm really not sure it would be possible to make her any more bland. Also, her accent annoys me. Hence, uh, your positive was a negative to me.
6793060
Yes, 'tis a scary place. I'm impressed you were able to navigate the treacherous roads into my strangely-named domain - and surviving the sheep was truly an awe-inspiring feat. Should you brave the rain and wind and scarily-dressed men in fields, you will find... Nothing, really. A lot of grass, if you like that sort of thing. The occasional person dressed up as a prince from 700 years ago and perhaps, if you are truly lucky, you may glimpse the odd leek. The true treasure to be found is hidden deep in the resentment of angry Welshmen at rugby matches, their chanting and choir-singing reaching ear-piercing decibels. It is the one hidden talent of my people aside from Ninja-warrior-sheep training and snide, passive-aggressive comments about the English.
As for your decision, that's fine. We all have our differences and that's what makes us interesting. And I can see your point. I still secretly wish we might see AJ as a punk-rocker or a ruthless businessman one of these days... Good luck to you should you come venturing near my neck of the woods again. The chanting awaits...
6793150 Sounds like there is considerably less nothing there than the West Midlands. While about 30 years ago there were industrial cities full of factories and striking workers and the like, all that industry is long gone and all that remains are a load of ugly cities. Today those ugly cities are full of ugly people, chavs and immigrants. The only sheep you'll find here are in kebabs. The only place that's somewhat impressive is Birmingham, although if the Americans are to be believed, that's under the control of Islamic police and no non-muslims are allowed in. Since the West Midlands utterly sucks at every sport, most people here simply indulge England's misplaced pride in football. So there's less chanting here, mostly a load of trashy degenerates pitifully weeping into their flags to such an extent they put out their own cigarettes.
As for Applejack being a punk-rocker or ruthless businessman? I think any deviation from her embedded archetype would be great. Even if it was something tragic like pottery or ventriloquism or something, anything that isn't apples.
6791754
Not true. Applejack is my least favorite mane six by a wide margin, though I don't think I dislike her. She's just kinda there.
Though that's hardly a problem for me in this story where there is a pretty low percentage of Applejack.
7076303
Yeah, there isn't really anything even slightly interesting about Applejack, and she just falls completely flat as a character. As I explained somewhere between my ramblings about Britain in the other comments on this chapter.
I'm afraid the amount of Applejack progressively increases as the story continues. So be prepared to sit bemused on the metaphorical sidelines as everyone else fawns over apple horse.
At least one of these majestic vessels is making progress.
7077578
Reminder that this is the Appledashery version of AJ, and by just reading the title, you'd know AJ would at least be a main character here. Sorry I'm years late but better late than never...? Also what I meant by this is the ADshery version, is that AJ's personality and everything can be a deviation of the original show, plus this is instead of S2.
