The castle garden. A place of serenity and beauty. The bright moonlight only made it more magnificent to gaze on for any passerby, be it ground or air. The quiet serene fountain, the beautiful flowers at rest for the night, and the shaking bushes rustling about in the windless breeze.

"The coast is clear."

A figure popped it's head out of the bush, covered in a black mask in an effort to protect his identity. He proceeded to cautiously leave the bush, his black outfit hiding him with the shadows he followed while moving towards the castle itself. With no one in sight, he made it to his intended target, a window held open by another in the same outfit as his.

"Will you hurry and get in before someone sees us?" The one holding the window open rushed the other. He responded by quietly scampering in, making sure to not make any noise as he landed on the other side. His partner shut the window and began to look around the dimly lit hallways of the castle. "Alright. Let's get the goods and get out of here quickly." He said quietly.

The other man nodded, and followed quietly behind him. Constantly checking down the hallways for night guards, the duo began their ascent into the uppermost parts of the castle towards their goal. The guards were more vigilantly patrolling the corridors here than they were downstairs, with good reason as the two knew. Remaining as stealthy as they could, the men maneuvered through the halls, dodging the sight of the patrols that guarded there. Through their efforts, the duo managed to make it to their goal, the room they were looking for. A lone guard stationed outside the regal looking gateway kept watch for people exactly like them, preventing entry without permission. A large crescent decorated the door's peak, almost daring the two to enter.

"Are you ready?" the one that had been giving the instructions asked. The other nodded quickly and nervously. "Veil of silence broken, shattered sound echoes through the hollow winds and into the ears of the deceived." He pointed his finger towards the opposite end of the hallway, maintaining focus as the tip began to glow with an eerie, almost lightless light. "Ghost sound." The light vanished, though the effect was done correctly. On the other end, the sound of crashing porcelain lightly echoed down the hall, drawing the attention of the guard. A need to discover the source forced the guard from his post. He quickly moved towards the sound, exactly what the two waited for.

They quickly and quietly moved towards the doors, and quickly turned the knobs. Sighing in relief, the doors opened without a struggle. Checking back, the guard's back was turned, examining the area for the source of the noise. They shut the doors quietly behind them, relieved to have gotten away with their crime so far. Taking a glimpse around the room, they stared in awe at the beautifully decorated sleeping quarters of none other than Princess Luna. The curtains covering the windows shimmered in the pale moonlight like stars in the sky. All the furniture looked quiet old fashioned, yet highly elegant. Nothing less from what they would expect the grand bedroom to look like.

As much as they would like to admire the room, they had a task to complete. "All right. Keep watch while I search for em'," the leader whispered as he walked towards the large dresser. He opened up drawer after drawer, looking for the target. After a minute, he grinned, holding up the target successfully. In his hands were a pair of light blue panties. "I'll cast the float spell and we can..." He began to turn towards his partner, but was greeted by a different sight.

"You know, this was actually kinda fun." His partner was no longer there, replaced with a completely different man. Dressed in a nice black suit, he tilted up his matching fedora to show his cheeky grin, dark brown eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint in them. The hand moving his hat also contained a large glass sphere. This wasn't what the man was looking at, though. All he could really see was the wicked looking device in his hands. "Neat, huh? This is a rune gun. A grade A magic weapon capable of casting spells with the simple pull of a trigger. So...do you feel lucky, punk?" He started to back up slowly, unsure of how to react to the sudden situation at hand. The best logical conclusion was to give up, so he book it, turning and running towards the balcony. He opened the door, but was stopped at another figure in front of him.

"Escape isn't possible." The words from the figure cloaked by a grey hooded jacket were as cold as ice, leaving the man paralyzed with fear. His golden eyes continued to stare into the mans very being. The figure reached into the sheath attached to his jeans and slowly pulled out a knife, clearly designed for combat and shining with as much wickedness as the man's stare.

"Ya better just give up," the man from before said, walking towards the frightened invader. "My buddy here can be a little bit messy if he feels threatened." He began looking back and forth. On one side, a sneaky man who looked way more amused than he should be. The other side was the cold glare of death itself. He sighed in defeat, dropping the panties and raising his hands above his head slowly.

"What did you do with Twitch?" he asked nervously. The man holding the glass ball chuckled and threw it at the ground. The ball shattered and flashed, the other man from before laying down. He wasn't awake, but it was easy to see that he was at least still breathing.

"Pal's fine, but I hope you both know you're in big trouble. All right, Shiny, send in the guards. They're harmless," the suited man said, stepping out of the way. The bedroom door opened, and from the entrance three more men entered, all donned in dark armor with the exception of the man in the middle, whose armor was a bright golden color. He stepped up to the two intruders, and stared at the conscious one intently.

"My name is Captain Shining Armor." The man in the middle introduced himself to the one in trouble. "You are under arrest for breaking and entering, attempted theft, and intrusion into the private sleeping quarters of a royal princess."

"Right to remain silent, blah blah blah, can we go now? I gotta date to keep!" the man with the suit asked, putting his weapon away into his suit coat.

"It' s your own fault, Catacomb," the man on the balcony said, putting his knife away.

"I wanted to make sure they had ill intent, Ark. Can you really blame me?" the one named Catacomb asked, shrugging his shoulders. "It isn't like I am a mind reader."

"But I am." A voice rang through his head. "Tis thou's own fault. I informed you of those rapscallion's desire to raid Princess Luna's unmentionables."

"Your point?" Catacomb said out loud, sounding almost insane to the unsuspecting.

"The point is, and I quote, 'I wanted to know what color they were," the voice said again in an almost mocking tone.

"So? I am now twenty bits richer because of that. Suck it, Miss Communication!" Catacomb said, pumping the air in celebration. Ark sighed and shook his head. Lifting his jacket up to his shoulders, a pair of large grey wings spread out and started to flap, giving him lift.

"I'm going home now," he said, taking off into the sky.

Catacomb turned around, giving a pleading look towards Shining Armor. He ran his hands through his blue hair, and shook his head in defeat. "Awesome!" Catacomb said, running towards the window. "I'll tell Twily you said hi!" he yelled, jumping off the balcony himself.

The two night guards walked silently towards the confused criminal. One cuffed the one that was awake, while the other was thrown over the second guards shoulder. As they guided the men past Shining, they stopped and looked at him.

"Sir, are you okay? You look troubled," one of the guards asked the troubled looking Shining.

"Yeah, just another normal day. When you get back to the staff room, please tell Missy to stop making bets with Cata. That is all," Shining asked, chuckling lightly.

"Yes sir," the guard responded before leaving. Shining sighed and leaned against the wall, staring at the exit the other two used.

"This report is going to suck. Reader, am I crazy for dealing with them?" Shining asked.

"No more crazy than the usual T.E.S.T. commanders." a voice from behind the bedroom door spoke. "I would be far more concerned if one could remain sane in your position of command." The one behind the voice opened the door. Shining smiled at the blue robed man.

"Thanks, Reader. By the way, what was the bet?" Shining asked. Reader shook his head and turned towards the door.

"Nothing important. Come, I shall purchase you an ale for your stress," Reader said, avoiding the shameful subject.

"That actually sounds like a good idea." Shining nodded, walking out of the room with his bald friend, closing the door behind him. "I am just going to take care of the report before we get smashed."

"Take your time, Shining. I shall be awaiting you at our usual table." Reader patted his back before continuing down the hall. Shining turned the opposite direction towards the guard quarters.

"I am only here one day a week. Why can't people break the law on a Wednesday?" he grumbled to himself.

---------- ---------- ----------

Shining Armor approached the throne, bowing politely towards the woman sitting on it. Her dark blue dress barely touched the floor, shimmering like the night sky, large blue wings pressed against her back. Her hair seemed to blow on an invisible breeze. Those who looked at it could see the night sky in her locks, clear and majestic. Her blue eyes were strong and fierce, but compassionate as they gazed on the weary and annoyed captain.

"Good evening, Princess Luna." She smiled and nodded, signaling for him to rise. He did as commanded and waited for her to begin speaking.

"Good evening indeed, Shining Armor. We take it that there is no more cause for concern?" she asked, removing herself from the throne to walk around.

"The intruders were taken care of. Just some teenagers trying to win a very stupid bet." he groaned. "We already contacted their parents, and await your decision since they did try to steal from you."

"What was it they attempted to take?" Luna asked curiously. Shining blushed slightly, no desire to mention their target. Still, it was still his job and he would have to go through with it.

"Your...umm...your underwear." The room was filled with silence. No one dared breath, be it guards or the princess. She stared blankly at Shining for several long seconds before turning around and walking back to the throne. She took a seat and a deep breath.

"We take it Catacomb was charged with subduing the suspects?" Luna asked bluntly, staring at the floor.

"Yes." Shining said quietly. Luna sighed, shaking her head.

"If we were to go by the old style punishment, ten years in the dungeon. Alas, Celly says I can't keep doing that anymore. The days before used to be so simple. I am having a decent day. Let them off with a warning." Luna smiled slightly, trying to keep herself from making any rash decisions. Shining nodded slowly, still afraid to make a move. "Also give them a message from me."

"What message would that be?" Shining asked.

"IF THEY EVER ATTEMPT TO STEAL FROM US AGAIN, WE WILL PERSONALLY EXECUTE THEM!" Luna yelled out in a loud booming voice, shaking the entire room. "Ahh. We feel much better." She smiled innocently, ignoring the petrified looks of Shining and her guards.

"O-Of course, Princess!" Shining said quickly. Shining nodded and began walking towards the throne room's exit, before turning back around. "I have one more question."

"What would that be?" Luna asked, still smiling from before.

"I noticed that Princess Celestia was out all day. Do you know where she is?"

Luna grinned, knowing exactly where she was and what she was doing. "She is busy attending a monumental event."

"Really? What's going on, if you don't mind me asking?" Shining walked back towards Luna, curiosity beginning to consume him. Something grand, yet he was not informed about. It had to be interesting.

"Not at all. You are to find out soon enough, so there is no harm in telling you." Luna said with a quirky smile. "There is going to be a new Princess!" Luna said happily, bouncing about slightly. "Such an amazing event! Oh how I wish I could have been there."

"That is amazing!" Shining said happily, feeling her happiness rub off on him. "Who is it, if I may ask?"

"Don't worry, Shining," Luna began. "You will find out soon enough. I assure you."

Inebriation

Two men sat next to one another silently despite the bar's loud atmosphere. It seemed like everyone inside was having a great time and celebrating. It was a great cause for celebration, as such an event occurring wasn't even heard of. Yet, the two sat silently.

Catacomb, one of those men, looked over towards the person next to him, who casually sipped a glass of apple juice through a straw. His white ceramic mask wouldn't have made it easy to drink otherwise, and those that knew him knew he wouldn't have bothered to take it off for a little thing like drinks. Catacomb looked back down into his full shot glass, the liquor remaining untouched since it was purchased. Peering back at his friend, even his ridiculously colored outfit wouldn't manage to lift his spirits.

"I guess your date was canceled?" the masked man asked once he was finished with his drink. Catacomb quietly stared into his booze, thinking through his answer carefully.

"Yup." Not much more was needed to be said. His friend was only trying to help him, but what can someone in his position really say? "Perry?" Catacomb asked, the masked man turning his head towards his friend.

"Yes?" Perry responded simply.

"What exactly happened today?"

---------- ---------- ----------

"Your sister completed a spell that even the great Starswirl couldn't manage to finish," Reader said, patting Shining on the back.

"That's my little Twily for you," Shining said happily, downing another shot afterwards. "Is that why you invited Ark?"

"Bored," Ark said lazily, sitting at the usual table with Shining Armor and Reader. It was a nice corner spot where they could talk more casually then other areas in the bar. The soundproofing barrier also helped, but was more to protect their own eardrums.

"Never thought you would be the kind to engage in alcohol," Reader said, taking a healthy chug out of his pint glass. Shining nodded, watching Ark swirl around the amber colored liquid.

"It's okay," Ark said quietly, taking a sip of his own. His faced scrunched up slightly, but it was barely noticeable. Shining and Reader laughed, noticing it anyways. Ark placed the glass back down and proceeded to stay quiet as the two continued to talk.

"So, how do you think the young changeling is dealing with his girlfriend's new status?" Reader asked, bringing up a good point.

"Cata is probably celebrating the same way we are."

---------- ---------- ----------

"I don't want it." Catacomb pushed the alcohol away, the bartender nodding and setting the glass aside just in case.

"Cata, are you ok?" Perry asked. Catacomb shook his head slowly, not bothering to look up from his view at the counter. "I would have thought that you would have been happy about all of this."

"Don't get me wrong. I am happy. It is an amazing event, and I would be a terrible person to not give her my congratulations," Catacomb said, forcing a smile on his face.

"But..."

"Where does that leave me?" Catacomb sighed, placing his head against the counter softly.

"I am sorry, but I honestly don't follow," Perry said, keeping his hidden eyes locked on his friend for any kind of cue.

"She is considered freakin royalty, dumbass!" Catacomb said loudly. "What the hell does that make me to her? I am a nobody in her presence. Even worse, I am an..."

"Incredibly idiotic individual," Perry finished for Cata. He turned his gaze to his masked friend. Perry comfortingly placed his hand on Catacomb's shoulder. "You are the only one holding yourself back here. Twilight isn't the kind of person to let something like this change her."

"That isn't exactly what I mean though. Is she even allowed to date me anymore? What if what I am got out? Arg! Where the hell is that booze?!" Catacomb reached for the glass the bartender moved, and quickly downed it. "Ahhh..."

"Cata..."

"Perry, this isn't some small issue to deal with. Mind's are hardwired to try and find all flaws within the famous to try and bring them down to their levels as a method of coping with their own lack of notoriety. Me simply being associated with Twilight would cause her nothing but headaches from rich snooty nobles looking for any and all excuses to bring her down to make themselves feel superior."

"...Quit quoting those strange psychology people. They make me nervous enough," Perry said, shaking his head. "Secondly, as sweet as it is to try and look out for her, you're being stupid. In an incredibly smart way, don't get me wrong. But stupid."

"What do you know?! You have no soul!" Catacomb moaned, placing his head back on the counter.

"Ow..." Perry said, turning his head away.

---------- ---------- ----------

"Sounds difficult," Ark said, taking another cautious sip of his beverage. Shining and Reader looked at him curiously. It wasn't often that the quiet man gave any opinion at all.

"How so?" Shining asked, taking another gulp himself. Ark stayed quiet for several seconds. He carefully thought out his next response, no desire to have to speak more than he had to.

"How would you handle it?" Ark always had a way to make such a huge impact with so few words, and tonight was no exception. Shining took a few seconds to think about what Ark said. He put himself in his shoes and slowly began to understand what he meant.

Shining was married himself to the princess of love, but he knew what he was getting into. The responsibility and determination to prove himself in the eyes of the public was no easy feat. He struggled and crawled through trial after trial to be seen as the figurehead he was today. Catacomb was thrown straight into a minefield in which he has no experience. It is nearly impossible to imagine the amount of stress suddenly placed on someone who is technically an enemy of the state.

"Yeah..." Shining didn't really have anything to say.

"Being famous never did suit Catacomb," Reader added in, taking a slow sip from his beer.

"Maybe I should go talk to him. Offer him some advice," Shining said, staring into the fading bubbles of his drink. He no longer had the desire to finish it off. Ark was definitely a killer, be it people or moods. He looked back at the young man. For someone so young, he was already so many years wiser than he ever appeared. Staring into his eyes was almost the same as staring into a veteran soldier coming back from a war.

"I'll go," Ark interrupted his thoughts, taking out the bits to pay for his drink.

Reader gently grabbed him by his hood as he got up. "There is no need, Ark. Shining can-"

"Prepare security for the ceremony," Ark said plainly. Shining sighed.

"Let him go. He isn't wrong," Shining said to Reader. He released his grip and Ark turned to leave. "I have to make sure that we don't have another incident like before." Reader nodded at Shining. "Before you go, tell me. Why do you want to go?"

Ark turned back around, his gaze as cold as ever. His glare spoke more words than any speech or statement ever could. Shining nodded and Ark turned away, walking towards and out the exit of the busy bar. Shining took a deep breath, a small smile on his face.

"Words will never be strong enough to convey that man's reasons," Reader said, taking another sip.

"I don't think words are even necessary, though." Reader looked at his commander with intrigue. "I understood what he was saying." Shining finished off the remainder of his drink. He turned towards his friend and shrugged his shoulders. "He said, 'There shouldn't be a reason to want to help a friend.'"

---------- ---------- ----------

"So, what now?" Perry asked, not bothering to make eye contact after his friend's slightly hurtful remark.

"I don't freaking know!" Catacomb snapped, trying to keep himself together and failing. It wasn't often Catacomb let things get to him, and Perry knew he was treading on thin ice right now. "Damnit all! Being in love is so difficult. No wonder so many couples have fleeting emotions." Catacomb chuckled slightly, glaring at no one in particular. "I feel like a major ass right now just thinking about it. I enjoyed that and took advantage of it regardless." Catacomb banged his fist onto the bar violently.

"Cut that out, or you're gone!" The bartender said, staring him sternly in the eyes. Catacomb was on the verge of flipping out, but Perry quickly grabbed him.

"We were just leaving. Sorry about the trouble." Catacomb struggled about, but Perry easily overpowered him, leaving him no choice but to submit to the jester's whim. Once they were outside, Catacomb broke out of his grasp, Perry no longer trying to hold him back.

"What the hell is your problem?!" Catacomb yelled out, Perry trying his hardest to keep his own cool despite getting screamed at.

"You were making an ass out of yourself, and nearly got banned from another bar," Perry said, his tone anything but joking.

"Let me make an ass out of myself then!" Catacomb yelled out, pacing about frantically. "I think I deserve the right to get pissed off too. I deserve the right to be angry at this messed up world for constantly dumping load after load of crap on me! I deserve to be an absolute mess when things are going to hell!" Catacomb was so busy fuming, that he didn't notice until it was too late. Suddenly feeling pain in his face as well as a falling sensation, he barely had time to see Perry with his hand outstretched before hitting the ground.

"Will you quit whining like an infant!" Perry nearly snapped as well. Catacomb quietly stared at the ground, his fists shaking. "I can understand you are stressed out. I probably would be, too. You are acting absolutely ridiculous, and only making it worse by throwing a temper tantrum!" Perry took a few deep breaths, attempting to keep his cool before he went too far as well. He could feel his own blood boiling.

"What about Twilight?" Perry said, calmed down slightly. "What do you think is going through her head right now? She woke up today, and the biggest issue was probably what to wear tonight. Now she has to learn how to rule an entire country one day. Don't you even care about her feelings?" Perry stared at Catacomb, watching his entire body start to shake. "Are you even listening to-" The strike was quick, even Perry didn't expect it. He looked down, Catacomb's fist pushing hard against his stomach. Clutching the point of impact and trying to suck in all the air the hit pushed out, he glared at Catacomb. He stood strong, eyes filled with rage.

"Don't you dare try and say I don't care!" Catacomb screamed. He quickly moved forwards and threw a left hook, managing to strike the unsuspecting Perry in the side of his head. He toppled over, laying on the ground, breathing heavily. Catacomb's glare remained focused on Perry, watching him slowly rise back up, shaking slightly as he tried to remain focused. His shaking stance allowed for a moment unguarded, and Perry quickly took advantage of it, striking Catacomb in the side with a quick kick of his own, standing back at full attention.

"Are you really doing this?!" Perry yelled, far beyond snapping now. Striking fast and hard, Perry threw jabs at the rattled man, hitting him several times in the stomach before finishing with a straight to the face. Blood shot out of Cata's nose, quickly covered up as his hands held the injury instinctively.

"I'll kill you!" Catacomb yelled, adrenaline at full rush. He quickly reached into his coat, an action Perry was more than familiar with. With incredible speed of his own, a scythe created from crystal manifested itself into his waiting hands. Catacomb didn't hesitate for one second, pulling out his rune gun and pointing it towards his own friend. Perry quickly approached Catacomb, swinging his weapon with deadly accuracy.

Everything went silent in almost an instant, though sound was still being made. Hearts were racing quickly, the two staring each other down, no movement being made on any front.

"Enough..." A third body stood between the two. One hand was pointing Catacomb's gun towards the ground, a large scorch mark where it was pointing. The other hand held a knife, the blade grinding against the crystal scythe to keep it from removing his friend's head. Catacomb and Perry, both breathing heavily, remained otherwise motionless. It was impossible to tell how much time had passed by, before Catacomb made the first movement. His gun hit the ground with a loud plunk. The scythe soon followed, shattering and vanishing as it landed. The two battered men both fell to a knee, Perry holding his stomach while Catacomb tilted his head back to try and stop the blood.

"Thanks, Ark," both said in unison, coming to terms with how close they actually were to taking each other out this time around. Neither would have actually stopped if he hadn't intervened when he did. Ark responded by putting his knife away and backing up.

"You two are stupid," Ark bluntly said. Both of them knew this to be hard to deny right now, or neither of them would be in the sorry state they were in.

Catacomb grabbed his weapon off the ground and put it away. He slowly got up, his face still red, but not bleeding nearly as bad as before. Perry stared at him, unable to speak to him after what had occurred. If he hadn't lost it, none of this would have happened. In his head, he could feel nothing but guilt.

"Sorry, but I need some time alone." Catacomb turned to leave, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him. He turned, Ark holding him in place. "Yeah?"

"Shining wishes you best of luck," Ark said, relaying his own version of the conversation. Catacomb nodded, though his usual smile was gone, replaced with a solemn stare that held no emotions at all. Perry tried and failed, so all he could do was let his friend try and make the right decision himself now. It was all anyone could do.

Expectation

Canterlot Castle, a serene location high up for all to see. It was a setting of peace and tranquility, known by all who lived in the land.

"How long are we going to have to wait?"

The voice came from an annoyed man, dressed up in a white bakers uniform. He paced back and forth, drawing in the bored stares of others dressed like him.

The preparations were coming along fine. A large banquet was in the works, and they were tasked with preparing the delectable confectionery desserts for the event. They were doing quite well, until the arrival of the pink hurricane responsible for their boredom.

"This is getting ridiculous!" the impatient baker yelled. "Powdered, you're in charge. Do something!" he spoke in a half agitated half condescending tone, staring at the oldest of the bakers standing around.

"It is in our best interest if we wait out here, young Cookie," Powdered responded, shaking his head.

"But what about our jobs?" he asked, the signs of worry showing on his face.

"What about our lives?!" Powdered snapped. "If you step in there, you might not make it out! Do you have any idea who you would be dealing with?!" Cookie shook his head, fear in his gaze as he stared at the elder baker, his wise eyes speaking volumes. "That is the Element of Laughter..."

---------- ---------- ---------

"Oh will you hold still?!"

"You're making it too tight!"

The large room resembled an explosion of cloth, fragments and pieces every which way. The light from the sun was partially blocked by the translucent curtains drawn over the large castle windows. The two ladies in the room were the only things moving around and making noise.

"...Aaaaaaand done! There, was that so bad?" one of the girls said, backing away from the other one, admiring her handiwork. "I must say, Twilight. That is one of my finer works. Fit for a princess."

"I can barely breath," Twilight, the other girl in the room, said as she slowly stepped down from the platform. "Really, Rarity, does it need to be so tight?"

Rarity did a walk around Twilight, double checking her work for any imperfections. The dress on her friend was a mixture of pink and purple, meant to accentuate the odd natural highlight in her otherwise dark blue hair, as well as bring out her eyes. It was also designed to match the wings curled up awkwardly against her back.

"Perfect!" Rarity chirped, grinning happily as she removed her dark purple framed glasses from her face. Even with glasses, style was everything as they were meant to bring out the blue in her eyes. "And yes, Twilight, it is meant to be tight. You only become a princess once in your life, so looking your best is key. You don't have the curves to show off, so this design will better show your slender figure."

"I'm not sure if I should be insulted. So can I take it off now?" Twilight asked, reaching behind her for the zipper holding the dress up. She bumped into her wings and made them shoot open. "Stupid...how does Fluttershy and Rainbow deal with these?!" she gave up, dropping her arms to the side in defeat.

Rarity giggled and walked behind her, pulling the zipper down enough for Twilight to get out of her new outfit. Twilight held up the dress with her hands and walked behind the changing curtain. Rarity could hear her rustling about, and took the opportunity to clean up the distastes created in her wake.

She stopped for a second when she walked past the full sized mirror, admiring herself in it. Her dark purple hair was still curled just right, giving it a majestic bounce. Her white sundress flowed down to just above her knees, three light blue diamonds embroidered on the sides being the only design of note on the otherwise blank outfit.

Her self admiring stopped as Twilight stepped back out, wearing what she preferred. A simple white blouse and a purple skirt, though modifications were made to her shirt for the wings. She continued to fidget with them to get them through the holes properly. "Could you give me a hand, Rarity? I think a feather is stuck."

"Of course," Rarity walked over and gently moved the cloth around until her wings were fully through. "So, did you tell Cata yet?" Rarity asked playfully.

Twilight's eye's nearly popped out of her head. "Oh my gosh!" she yelled loudly. Rarity jumped from the sudden yell, staring quietly at her friend. "I missed my date!"

"He works for the princesses, dear. I am sure he knows and understands." Rarity said comfortingly, a small smile on her face.

"What if he thinks I am different?! What if he never wants to talk to me ever again?! What if he thinks I hate him and didn't feel like showing up because he thought I thought he wasn't good enough for me now and thinks I am a completely different person?!" Rarity quietly listened to Twilight panic. She sighed and shook her head.

"Are you different?" Rarity asked subtlety. Twilight pointed towards her back, the wings puffing out. Rarity shook her head. "Please, Twilight. You and me both know he won't be bothered by that. Did you actually try talking to him?"

"...No."

"Well what do you think you should do?"

"Talk to him?" Rarity smiled and clapped, Twilight blushing in embarrassment.

"You remember where he lives, don't you?"

"423, Mane Street, apartment number 213," Twilight recited from memory, even though she has never actually been there herself.

"Then don't wait for me to give you permission. Go to him, darling," Rarity said with a wink. Twilight smiled and nodded, grabbing her shoes and bolting out the door. "Some things will never change," Rarity told herself. She smiled as she proceeded to finish cleaning up.

---------- ---------- ----------

Twilight hopped down the hallway on one leg while trying to put her shoes on. She managed to get them on, but her lack of focus caused her to bump into someone else, knocking them both to the ground.

"Ow...I am sorry...Applejack?"

Twilight looked at her victim, a blond haired woman wearing a Stetson hat. Her orange plaid flannel shirt, blue jeans, and dusty boots made it an easy guess even from a distance.

"I am so sorry, Applejack. Here," Twilight got up and held out her hand.

"Thanks, Twi," Applejack said, taking her friends hand and pulling herself up. "Yer in quite the hurry," She moved her head and stared down the hallway. "Nope, nothin' chasin' ya, so what's the rush?"

"Well it's like this," Twilight took a deep breath. "With everything that happened yesterday I forgot to meet Cata for our date and now he probably hates me so I am going to his apartment to apologize and ask him to not hate me and I am in a hurry because there is so much to do today and I gotta meet Shining and Princess Celestia to discuss the arrangements for the," Twilight stopped for a second, taking in another gulp of air, "coronation tomorrow and I am nervous enough without not knowing what is going to happen from here on out and I don't want to make Cata upset as well so I will talk to you later!"

Twilight quickly began her mad dash through the castle corridors, leaving Applejack behind with only a simple wave goodbye.

"What just happened?"

---------- ---------- ----------

No matter how quickly she was trying to leave, it was hard to ignore the large group of angry looking bakers standing outside the bakery, especially when they block her path as they notice her. Twilight came to a stop, trying to decipher what the problem was with everyone speaking at the same time.

Eventually, Twilight's patience ran thin, and she was fed up. "Enough!" she yelled out, everyone become quiet at the same time, obediently awaiting her next words. "Umm...that's kinda weird. Please don't do that again," Twilight asked. The bakers' stiffness vanished and they all relaxed, though they remained silent regardless. "Now that I can understand you, what's wrong?"

"Princess Twilight, we need your assistance." Powdered approached Twilight calmly. "We have been kicked out of our bakery while preparing the confectioneries for your ceremony tomorrow.

"Twilight is fine. I'm not exactly comfortable with the princess title yet. Also, how did you get kicked out of your own bakery?" Twilight looked towards the door, listening to the sounds inside.

"Well you see, that is where I was hoping you could help us. It is your friend..."

"Pinkie?" Twilight finished, not exactly hard to put together when she heard it was a friend of hers. Powdered nodded slowly. "I'll see what's going on," Twilight said, sighing slightly. She moved towards the door and opened it, all the other men backing away quickly.

Twilight didn't have a chance to look inside, as she was suddenly knocked to the ground by a pink blur's dive tackle. "Twilight! No peeking!"

"Pinkie, why did you jump on me?" Twilight asked, staring up at her friend from the ground, partially annoyed. The woman on top of her was wearing a bright pink dress with many different colors of balloons designed into it, though the frilly pink apron covered most of it.

"Because," the pink haired girl gave Twilight a huge smile, "there wasn't enough time to close the door. So whatcha up to?" Pinkie asked innocently.

"Well for starters, I am trying to go see Cata. Secondly, why did you hijack the bakery?"

"I wanted to make you an awesome 'congratulations on becoming a princess' cake, but I wanted it to be a secret."

"So instead you kick everyone who was working out into the hallway?" Pinkie nodded quickly. Twilight sighed, shaking her head. "Just...hurry up. They are getting antsy."

"Can do! Good luck with that thing you," A ding interrupted her, causing Pinkie to jump off quickly. "Gotta go!" she ran back inside the kitchen, leaving everyone standing around the scene speechless.

"Just give her a few more minutes?" Twilight said, smiling awkwardly from her spot on the ground.

---------- ---------- ----------

There it was. The exit to the castle. Distraction after distraction, Twilight finally managed to make it to the exit.

"Twilight!" she slowed down, cursing her bad luck. The voice was easily recognizable as Rainbow Dash. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves and turned around.

"Can I...help you?" Twilight asked, her eye twitching slightly.

Like she guessed, her rainbow haired friend was there, dressed in her usual outfit, a light blue tank top with matching shorts. She wasn't the only one there, though. Twilight noticed the light pink hair barely visible from behind Rainbow's blue wings. Tilting to the side, to get a better view, Twilight recognized the person as her friend, Fluttershy. She was wearing a warm looking yellow sweater and pair of white pants. The two stared at Twilight for a second, slightly scared of Twilight's reaction.

Breaking the silence, Fluttershy was the first to speak. "We're sorry if we came at a bad time," she said meekly, peeking over Rainbow's shoulders.

Twilight stared at the two, taking a deep breath and releasing a light sigh. "It's fine. I guess I am just a little stressed out, that's all," Twilight said, a smile returning to her face. "How can I help you?"

"Please please please let me perform at your princess thingie!" Rainbow said quickly. "Heck, just make me a wonderbolt! Come on, it will be awesome!"

"We have been over this a dozen times. I can't just make you a wonderbolt. That wouldn't be right. You have to earn it yourself," Twilight scolded.

"But they already know how awesome I am. They just need a good reason to invite me." Rainbow begged. Twilight began rubbing her temples, tired of explaining why she couldn't do it.

"Do you need anything as well, Fluttershy?" Twilight asked, ignoring the annoyed groans from Rainbow.

"Oh no. I am just fine. Thank you for asking, though," Fluttershy responded happily. Twilight smiled as well, partially relieved.

"All right. I have to get going, now. See you all tomorrow!" Twilight said, turning and waving before sprinting off.

"Hey, what about me?!" Rainbow yelled out. Either Twilight didn't hear her, or she just ignored her. Whatever the case, Rainbow grumbled and walked back into the castle, Fluttershy following behind.

---------- ---------- ----------

"So...this is the place?" Twilight asked herself, standing outside of a slightly dirty looking apartment building. The place had definitely seen better days, and could easily benefit from a new paint job.

Not wanting to wait any longer, Twilight entered the building, instantly blown away from the odd smells coming from the corridors. Taking one more breath from the outdoors, Twilight ventured into the building and up the first flight of stairs. Thankfully the smell got better the higher she went, but it wasn't pleasant. She wandered down the halls, staring at room numbers as she passed by. "Eleven...twelve...ah! Thirteen!" she said happily. She held her hand up to the door, ready to knock, when she stopped.

She was entering unknown territory, a much bigger event than she had anticipated this would be, and her nerves started getting the best of her. Thoughts began shooting through her head, every worse case scenario played out. She almost backed away, if not for the nagging voice in the back of her head telling her to just knock.

She did.

She waited, listening at the door. There were no sounds of movement coming from inside. It was past two in the afternoon, so he was definitely awake. She knocked again a bit harder and waited for a response, but again no one was coming to the door. Not one to give up, with all the little distractions that happened, she tried one more time.

Still no response. Twilight sighed and walked away, slightly saddened that he wasn't actually home. It was always a possibility, but she still wanted to see him. As much as she would have waited, she had important matters to attend to. She could only hope that he would be willing to show up tomorrow.

---------- ---------- ----------

A bottle in one hand, and a photo in another, Catacomb silently laid by the wall of the door, trying to keep himself together as the women he loved walked away. The picture was of them together during his stay in Ponyville, both smiling happily, arms wrapped around each other. Taking another sip of the amber liquid from the bottle, it only numbed the pain he felt. His silent realization was followed by even quieter tears.

Confrontation

Luna was rendered completely motionless. Everything was looking up to be such a wonderful day, but all it takes is one completely unexpected and unwelcoming experience to ruin it. For her, it was the situation she was currently trapped in.

It began with taking a nice hot shower to prepare her for the night. Relaxing and wonderful, it was easy to lose track of time when it came to bathing. She was quite content with singing happy little show tunes while thinking about the upcoming ceremonies tomorrow.

Finishing her shower, she walked out of her personal bathroom with towel wrapped tightly around her. That is when her day came crashing down with the paralyzing sight in front of her.

"Good evening, Princess Luna. You have quite the lovely voice, but I personally prefer jazz."

It was the embodiment of her nightmares for almost two years, sitting in one of her chairs casually, one leg crossed over the other and hands folded together in his lap. Her eyes remained focused on his mask, though, gazing at her with it's frightening glare that she knew all too well.

"Before you plan on either screaming or calling for the guards, please hear me out."

"Wh-What are you-"

"Doing in your room?" Perry finished her question as she remained silent, nerves still on edge."Not to cause you any harm, I assure you," Perry chuckled from behind his mask, the echo magnifying the fright factor for the nearly naked princess. "Well, I wanted to see you earlier, but the guards seemed highly reluctant to let a civilian simply wander the corridors of the castle without a good reason. Didn't help that apparently they were specifically told to never let me in unaccompanied, which is rather unfortunate since this is a private matter to be discussed."

"H-H-How-"

"Did I manage to get in? Silly Luna! Asking questions one should know the answer to."

Luna backed up against the wall the moment Perry rose from his seat. He began walking towards her, slowly and casually. Holding out her hands defensively as he got closer, she watched him walk past her and into the bathroom. "It would be rude of me to not offer you a chance to change in private, though I must insist on talking with you, so please refrain from doing something we would both regret."

As much as she wanted to, she was to nervous as to what he might do if she did end up going for help. It didn't seem like he had any ill intent towards her, despite his highly illegal entrance. As he shut the door, she did as instructed and quickly got changed into her evening attire.

"Make this quick!" Luna yelled from her room, Perry casually opening the door and walked back into the room.

Luna pointed towards the seat forcefully, trying to avoid showing anymore fear towards the man. Perry happily obliged, walking over and taking a seat once again.

"You obviously don't want me here, so I shall get to the point. I request a change of guard for Princess Twilight Sparkle for tomorrow's coronation ceremony."

Luna began wondering about such an odd request, especially with everything already set up. Shining requested that position personally. Being Twilight's brother as well as captain of the guard, Prince of the Crystal Empire, and the current King of T.E.S.T, it was an easy response to give. "I have no reason to deny Shining the right to protect his sister," Luna responded sternly.

"Can't say I didn't see this coming," Perry said, getting up from his spot. "I have been trying so hard to not be the bad guy, but sometimes one must do what one has to do. Please forgive me for this, Luna."

Luna watched nervously as he reached behind his back. She put herself into a defensive position to prepare herself for whatever he might be planning. Watching and waiting, she noticed hesitation in his actions. He sighed and sat back down, covering his masked face with his hands.

"I can't do this..." Perry said quietly. He reached behind his back once again, pulling out a small blue book with the word 'diary' on it. Before Luna could start screaming in anger, however, he tossed it over to her.

"Why did you have this?" Luna asked, her voice teeming with resentment. Perry refused to look at her, instead staring down at his own lap.

"I messed up," Perry said quietly. "I made a mistake, and almost made even more in an effort to fix it."

Luna didn't quite understand what he was talking about, but at this point they were both in too deep for her not to be curious at the situation. "I'll go make some tea. Just stay here quietly for a bit, and then we shall talk." Perry nodded lightly, and sat quietly as she left the room.

The thought of calling in the guards to have him arrested had crossed her mind multiple times while she walked down the long corridors. However, there was something in his tone that reminded her of something. It was so familiar, that she couldn't find the will to go through with it. This man was something she feared, and yet she couldn't do away with him, not like this.

Tea set in hand, she returned to the room, her visitor still seated where he was when she left. She sighed and set down the tray, pouring her and her visitor a cup. "One or two sugars?" Luna asked more politely than he deserved.

"Five please," Perry said quietly, keeping his head down. Odd request aside, he definitely didn't seem like his usual self. She fixed up his cup and handed it to him, taking a seat on her bed and sipping her tea eloquently.

"So what is this about exactly?" Luna asked, getting straight to the point. "You break into my room, try and steal my belongings, and I am guessing you were going to try and blackmail me."

"Yes," Perry admitted, staring down into the cup of tea. "Do you know why I wear a mask?" he asked, swirling the amber colored liquid around.

"To hide your appearance?" Luna answered, unsure herself. Perry chuckled, shaking his head.

"I used to think so, once apon a time, that very same thing," Perry responded, his hand reaching upwards, grasping at the edge of the white mask, shaking heavily. Luna sat quietly and watched him pull it off, still shaking nervously. "In my refusal to face the world, I built up a barrier to protect myself from it. Like a child to a blanket, even long after it's usefulness has ran out. Some cling to it as a means for comfort and protection, even though their more matured minds know that it doesn't work like that."

"And this has what to do with changing up the guard for the princess?" Luna asked, finding it hard to keep her gaze off of the glowing red eye in front of her. As dark and sinister as it was, the solemn look it held was too contradictory to be understood fully. "I didn't ask for your life story," Luna said, trying to get the conversation on topic.

"No, I guess you didn't," Perry said, a small smile on his face showing through. He took a sip of his tea and turned his gaze at Luna. "Catacomb has always worn a mask, though it be natural for one such as himself. I neglected to notice this until it was too late. His insecurities are far greater then he ever lets on, holding back his emotions with a combination of lies and liquor."

"Are you perhaps talking about his current relationship with Princess Twilight?" Luna asked, starting to get a feel for what was going on. She figured at this point what he would say next, but held her tongue to give him a chance to speak his mind.

"I am," Perry responded, looking over at Luna. "He is loading himself with doubts and fears, and I myself fear that if someone doesn't help him out of his cycle, he will be too far gone to come back," he finished his statement, taking another sip of the tea and frowning slightly. "My efforts have only succeeded in worsening the situation, so here I am, stealing your belongings in an effort to coerce you into cooperating with my plan," Perry chuckled, knowing how stupid his plan had sounded once it came out of his mouth.

Luna took a sip from her glass and stared at Perry, shaking her head slightly. "It would have probably worked, though I would not be happy with you afterwards," Luna admitted. "Why not bring this to the attention of Twilight, though. She would be far better suited than you for dealing with this situation."

"Cata has been avoiding her, as well as everyone recently. If I told her that he has been purposely keeping his distance, how do you think she would react?" Perry asked nervously.

"In a completely calm and rational manner considering the circumstance," Luna said, finishing her tea. She stood up and began walking around the room, her pacing a means to help calm her own nerves. "Someone like you, trained for the worst, has a hard time dealing with outcomes that are genuinely easy. Not everything has to be strategically played out. Try being straight and upfront about the situation, instead of tackling it like an adversary."

"I guess I understand." Perry said, finishing off his tea as well, placing the mask back into place once he was finished. "Still, I would be indebted to you if you were to grant this request regardless Princess Luna. He is still my friend, after all, and I would like to see him smile again." Luna clasped her forehead and shook it gently.

"I will not take Shining off, but I shall arrange to have two guards instead of one. But in return..." Perry waited patiently for the request, his morale already improving with the news. "...never do this again." Luna said, staring at the man. "It's bad enough that I have to improve personal security, but while I was taking a shower?! Do you realize how embarrassed I was?!" Perry laughed calmly as Luna tried to be angry while blushing.

"I must admit, had my trust not been tested, I might have attempted to steal a peek myself." Perry said slyly, already returning to himself. He get up and held his hand out politely. Luna looked at it nervously before taking it in hers and shaking. "Thank you again."

"Your welcome, Perry." Luna said halfheartedly. She still felt somewhat coerced into this agreement, but at least her secrets were safe. "Before you go, I must admit I am curious. Why do you still need your mask?"

"Because despite all that has happened, I am still no more than a fool," Perry said honestly. "Also, I have noticed that you have attempted to drop the silly royal 'we' thing."

"Only in private, really. Sister said I should practice so I may one day be able to speak normally. Now if you don't mind, get out!" Luna said pointing to both the door and the window. At this point she didn't really care, she just wanted him gone. She might learn to tolerate him one day, but for now, she needed a time out from the crazy. Perry happily obliged, walking towards the balcony and leaping off, letting his magic do the work from there on.

Luna walked over towards the spot where he remained seated for most of the time and grinned slightly. Even if it was in her head, she managed to fend of the mighty monster and lived to tell the tale. She went to grab the book he threw on the ground, but stopped as she noticed a note where it used to lay.

Will return when finished.

Sincerely, Perry.

Ark stood outside the large apartment building where his teammate resided. He stared at the building awkwardly, making sure he wasn't mistaken.

"He lives here?" Ark asked quietly as he approached, trying to remain stoic despite the odd smells coming from within the building. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a crumpled slip of paper. After taking a few seconds to read it, he shrugged and made his way inside.

Moving down the hallway, Ark thought about the odd circumstances that lead to his late night arrival. Being awoken by the guards and giving a task at such a late hour was irritating, but not completely intolerable. The guards issued him a request from Princess Luna herself, and without any real thought or question, here he was; standing in front of Catacomb's apartment at two in the morning like a complete jackass to deliver a letter.

Ark waited no longer, knocking at the door loudly despite the hour of the night. Finished, he waited for Catacomb to respond to his summons. Time passed by with no response from the other side. Ark was about to knock again, but stopped, staring down the halls he already disturbed. Not seeing anyone, he placed his hand on the doorknob, turning it slowly. The knob rattled slightly before giving in, turning effortlessly and letting him into the apartment.

Walking in and shutting the door, Ark stared around the room. The place wasn't much better on the inside. Dull dingy colors, shotty looking walls, and odd smells, though more tolerable inside. The most noticeable thing in the room was the couch, lined with several empty bottles and an unconscious changeling responsible for their current state. Ark walked over to him, staring down at him. Catacomb reverted back to his original form, gloomy black chitin replacing natural skin, with odd holes in his arms and legs. His longish hair was a pale blue, sprawled out every which way in a flustered mess. Ark could practically taste the alcohol coming off his breath. Had there been any doubt, the smell would have eradicated any of it.

"Cata?" Ark asked subtly, not wanting to startle him too much.

"The...pie in the...toaster cakes...filled with...strippers..." Catacomb moaned in his sleep, rolling over and onto the floor. Despite the apparently painful landing on more empty bottles, Catacomb remained unconscious.

Ark sighed, and walked over to the sink. Filling up a large cup with water, he proceeded to giving Catacomb a premature bath. The icy liquid hit him, and with almost instant response time, Catacomb shot up, broke a bottle in his hand, and held the makeshift weapon up to Ark's neck.

Ark remained unflinching, despite the pointy shards poking his neck. It took a few seconds for the now awake Catacomb to register everything, including the increasingly annoying hangover creeping onto him. "God...dammit...urgh..." Catacomb covered his mouth quickly, making haste into the bathroom. Ark listened quietly as the unpleasant sounds of regurgitation filled the apartment. After a solid ten minutes, Catacomb walked out, back in his normal appearance, if not a little scuffed up, a trace of his current condition.

"Better?" Ark asked, waiting patiently for an answer.

"Go screw yourself," Catacomb said, glaring at the hooded face staring at him. "So I am happily dreaming, got suddenly woken up, feel like shit, and have your arrogant mug staring me down. How can I help you today?" Catacombs words were filled with an odd combination of malice and sarcasm, neither which were picked up by the confused Ark.

"A mission request from Princess Luna," Ark said as he handed Catacomb the envelope addressed to him. Catacomb stared at the envelope, then back at the delivery boy, and back towards the accursed letter. He snatched the envelope out of Ark's hand and began opening it.

"Why the hell didn't she just send it normally?" Catacomb groaned, pulling the note out.

"She wanted to make sure you received it and actually read it," Ark said as he began wandering about the apartment.

"Don't touch anything, please," Catacomb asked as he watched his ally. Letter unfolded, he began to read it.

After a few minutes, Ark turned towards Catacomb, all the color gone from his face. He began to chuckle, covering his face with his free hand to muffle the laughter, growing louder by the second. It was hard to tell how long he went on like this, but he went silent almost instantly. Ark quietly approached, concerned for Catacomb. "Are you okay?"

"This is sick..." Catacomb said, glaring at the letter. "You are a sick bitch, Luna!" Catacomb yelled out loudly, crumpling up the paper and throwing it into the trash. "Did you know, too?!" Catacomb said, approaching Ark menacingly. He grabbed his jacket and started to shake him. "Did you know?!"

Ark's expression changed drastically. He grabbed Catacombs arms and threw him off. Catacomb stumbled back, being the recipient for Ark's gaze for the first time. It was almost paralyzing, the look of someone who is willing to take a life without a second thought. Time almost seemed to eternally stop for Catacomb. The feeling was completely different from Perry's. There is no thrill, no joy. Just pure wrath barely contained behind the yellow glare.

"Are you done?" Ark asked, his tone colder than any arctic night. Catacomb backed off and sat down on the couch. Ark walked over to the waste basket, giving Catacomb a chance to regain his breath, and read the letter himself. Re-reading it to confirm what it said, Ark approached the shaking Catacomb. "Explain."

"What's there to explain? It's a bad idea, pure and simple. I can't do it," Catacomb said, tears welling up in his eyes.

"Why?" Ark said, his appearance softening up.

Catacomb chuckled, shaking his head."Someone like you wouldn't understand. The pressure of being different, and seen as an outcast," Catacomb said, staring at the young man.

Ark remained quiet, taking in a deep breath and pulling up his hood. He walked over and sat down next to Catacomb, still breathing heavily.

"Are you okay?" Catacomb asked. Ark remained quiet, the sounds of rain starting up outside the only sound echoing within the room.

"Catacomb..." Ark finally began speaking again, staring downwards. Catacomb's attention was completely undivided, waiting for him to talk. "Just do it."

"That is easy for you to say, pal. You're not the one in this situation."

"The longer you go your life without speaking to her, the more it will eat away at you. It would mean the world to her, not only knowing you're still alive, but knowing that you still care. Don't just vanish completely. It isn't fair," Ark said, his tone shaky. Catacomb wanted to respond, but Ark seemed to go through so much to say that, he knew he should at least put some thought into those words.

From the beginning, their relationship was odd. A science project, a curiosity, a nuisance. It was hard to describe how Twilight thought of him. Sure, he knew when her feelings for him started to bloom, but everything else was and most likely will always be a mystery. Perhaps he just doesn't truly understand love yet. Only recently has it become more than a food source.

Lightning flashed from outside, causing Catacomb to jump slightly from his deep thoughts.

"Why the hell do you care anyways?" Catacomb asked, looking over towards Ark.

"Because we are friends," Ark responded simply. It wasn't full of optimism one would expect from that statement, but it was something that even Catacomb understood.

"You're stupidly honest, you know?" Catacomb said, laughing slightly, though his tone was still soft. Catacomb sighed afterwards, resting his hands in his lap. "I can't-"

"Stop!" Ark quickly interrupted him. Catacomb obeyed unwillingly, glancing back over. "Just do it," Ark said.

"Easy for you to say," Catacomb frowned. "You're not the one in this crazy situation. I mean, she is freaking royalty. You know what that means?!"

"Nothing," Ark plainly replied.

"You really believe that?!" Catacomb asked, astonished.

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes," Ark restated his response. "People are people. Titles aren't people."

"You...you really believe that?" Catacomb asked, slightly blown away by such simple words. "Is that how you show respect for the princess'?! They have done so much for the country and-"

"They did. Not their titles," Ark interrupted yet again, this time more forcefully to drive in his words. "They would still be who they are regardless. I respect that, and that alone is why I tolerate their rule," Catacomb went completely quiet. He wanted to respond, but he didn't have anything he could say in response to that.

"You are weird," Catacomb said, staring into an empty bottle passively. "But you make sense," Catacomb smiled slightly.

"I am going home now," Ark said, getting up from his spot with little warning. "See you at the ceremony tomorrow." Catacomb stared at Ark's back as he walked towards the door.

"What makes you think I am accepting it?" Catacomb asked, setting the bottle down. "I would rather sit here and get shitfaced again."

"Because you will," Ark said calmly, opening the door.

"What makes you so sure?" Catacomb asked, eyebrow raised. Ark turned around and gave Catacomb a serious stare. He froze slightly, awaiting the response from his teammate.

"Her dress is sexy," Ark said casually before walking out. As the door came to a slow close, Catacomb started chuckling, then laughing. Weather it was meant to be funny or not, it worked.

After a few minutes of calming down, he realized he was finally alone again, with only his annoying hangover to comfort him. He mulled back on everything that had occurred within the last half hour. "Wonder how much effort it took him to hold that conversation," Catacomb said to no one. Regardless, what he said was true.

Catacomb stared around his apartment, glancing every which way. Bottles were showing in every which direction one could look. He sat back as he gazed about, wondering how much money and time he could have saved if he was as simply honest as Ark was. Catacomb sighed, and got up from his spot. "Guess I should get some sleep. Gotta work tomorrow."

Even though, his grin returned.

---------- ---------- ----------

Ark sat at the bottom stair of the apartment, thinking back on his words of choice. Why did he even care so much about this? Why did he have to let it get personal? All he could really think about afterwards was how much he should listen to his own advice. He took a deep breath, and began his short trek home.

The weather finally calmed down when he left, making for a calm flight back. He soared through the sky, though he couldn't shake his own nerves. He couldn't even tell why he was nervous, just that he wanted to go home as quickly as possible, and get ready for the next day. He made a promise to visit during the coronation, though with the attitude of the one inviting him, he might as well been forced into it.

Unknown to him, several figures watched as he left, making sure they weren't spotted by him. When he was far enough, they began to speak.

"Hard to believe how much little Annie has grown."

"It felt like yesterday since we last saw him slicing through those throats. Though you had the opportunity to meet him recently, isn't that right?"

"Trust me, was not pleasant. His edge may be under new rule, but it is still as sharp as ever."

"Must have sucked, pal. Guy practically blended you into paste."

"Please don't bring that up. It still hurts like hell."

"Oh Havoc, darling, please do be patient. This is supposed to be professional after all."

"Oh I plan on it," Havoc said, walking out from the shadows of his hiding spot. Despite what had occurred, a look at the winged man would show no scars at all. "The effort it took me to piece myself back together, I want my payback in the most amusing way possible," Havoc began to laugh loudly, something born from a vile darkness mixed with an otherworldly confidence.

"Make sure you look your best, fellows. We have a big day tomorrow. It isn't often you get to meet a freshly created princess."

Twilight sat patiently in the dressing room with all her friends, getting ready for the upcoming ceremony. She wasn't really sure what to expect, but when it came to her friend Rarity, she seemed to pull all the stops today. Within a matter of days, she managed to complete a brand new outfit for everyone there.

With everyone else ready, Rarity was putting the finishing touches on Twilight while everyone sat around as patiently as they could.

"So Twilight, ya excited?" Applejack asked from her chair across the room, her light blue dress trimmed in her favorite orange freely swaying about. Even her hat, which she refused to not have, was a new design made the same blue while retaining shape and function.

"I guess," Twilight responded, staring into a mirror as Rarity continued to do her makeup. "Is all of this really necessary, Rarity?"

"Of course!" Rarity said while applying blush to her cheeks. "You are going to look simply marvelous when I am done with you!" She herself was already put together, her purple dress bringing an old age flair with a nice touch of modern. The corset laces tied in the front, as well as the slit going down the side of her leg showed off her feminine figure quite well.

"No offence, Rares, but she kinda looks like a doll," Rainbow said, casually tossing her blue and yellow hat up into the air, watching the plume spin about lazily. Her dress' colors and design slightly resembled a Wonderbolts suit, with the bottom hem made to look like a cloud. "What do you think, Shy?"

"I think she looks amazing, Rarity," Fluttershy answered happily. "We all do, and you should be quite proud," she admired the handiwork in her own dress, a light and darker green giving her a very nature-esk appeal, covering most of her yet still bringing out her beauty at the same time.

"Oh thank you dear, you are really-Pinkie stop trying to eat that!" Rarity quickly snapped at her friend, who was currently licking a mint shaped ornament on her small hat. "It's a decoration, not actually edible. What ever will I do with you?" Rarity sighed. Pinkie chuckled meekly and quickly placed the hat back on her head. It's blue coloring easily matched the two shades of her puffy dress, which defied logic and gravity itself by the looks of it.

"It was so super of you to make us all these new dresses!" Pinkie smiled happily at Rarity. "I am so excited! This might be the biggest event since the last biggest event in the history of biggest events ever!"

"I don't think it will be that big..." Twilight weakly smiled, blushing slightly from the comment.

"Aww, don't be embarrassed, sugercube. Pinkie is right, I think," Applejack said, shrugging. "Ain't often ya get to see a princess being...princessed?"

"Crowned," Twilight corrected.

"Right. Point is, Twi, be proud! You deserve it."

"Righto!"

"Absolutely!"

"Definitely!"

"Superly!"

Twilight smiled happily, getting up from her spot. "Thank you all so much. I couldn't have asked for better friends."

The moment was completed with a warm group hug, everyone enjoying their company together. It was quiet until someone began to ask a simple question. "I wonder what those guys are doing right now?"

---------- ---------- ----------

"..."

"..."

"Perry?"

"Catacomb?"

"..."

"You tried to cut my head off!"

"You tried to shoot me!"

"You tried...to cut off...my head!"

"You...tried...to shoot me!"

Shining, Reader, and Ark, all finely dressed in tuxedos, made slightly different for each person, watched the back and forth from an arguably safe distance. Each of their eyes ping ponged back and forth as Perry and Catacomb, dressed similarly, went at each other.

"Should we...should we leave?" Shining asked the other two, adjusting the belt holding his sword. Reader nodded slowly, not truly sure what to do in this situation.

Sharing a private room to get ready, everything was going smoothly until Catacomb, last to show, walked into the room. The tension between him and Perry were almost immediate, the two glaring holes into one another as the other three quickly backed off the troubled duo.

"Ark, you said they were upset, right?" Shining asked, staring at the oddly calm hooded figure.

"Yes," Ark answered quickly.

"How 'upset' were they?"

Ark pointed at the two men. "Worse."

"Right. Reader, you're good at this thing. Any suggestions?" Shining turned towards his friend.

"I have made use of the null magic field with haste. It is simply a matter of keeping the troubled men from physically assaulting one another," Reader nodded, currently holding an intricate wand, it's orb glowing slightly. Shining gave him an inquisitive look. "Safety first."

"You're lucky I don't ring your neck, you shifty bastard!" Perry continued to yell, readjusting his diamond patterned tuxedo from all the spastic motions.

"You started it, clown face!" Catacomb responded, adjusting his own hat.

"Because you were being an insufferable prick!"

"So you punch me?! Are you insane, oh wait, you are!" Catacomb mocked, grinning.

"At least I am actually a human," Perry countered, his tone giving away his own amusement.

"Bullshit! You're a freakin demon and we all know it!" Catacomb said, waving his arm out to include everyone. Perry looked over, the other three shaking their heads, not wanting to get involved with them. "I mean, who kills for shits and giggles?!"

"...I got better..." Perry said, slightly saddened by the comment. Everything went quiet, minus the slight sniveling coming from Perry.

"Oh you have got to be kidding me..." Catacomb said, staring at the target of his aggression. Everyone watched as Catacombs look changed from angry to saddened as well. "Perry?"

"Cata?" Perry responded meekly.

"I'm sorry!" Catacomb said, running at his friend. Perry quickly gave him a hug, as they both shared a manly embrace.

"Me too, Cata!" Perry cried as they both began sobbing.

Everyone else blankly stared at the two as they held each other, crying one anothers name.

"Should I kill them?" Ark asked casually, pulling his knife out of his hooded tuxedo.

"I thought the guards confiscated that for the ceremony?" Shining said, looking at the weapon. Ark glared slightly at Shining, causing him to back away. "Right, well maybe some other time. Let them have their special time, I suppose."

"I shall be off then," Reader said, putting his wand away and walking out the door.

Ark quickly put his knife away and followed out, leaving Shining alone with the two of them. "When you lovebirds are done, we need to actually perform a service," Shining said, annoyed slightly.

Both Perry and Catacomb stopped their whining and quickly broke off. Shining shook his head and headed out of the room himself. Catacomb quietly began his exit as well, before being stopped by a hand on his shoulder.

"Are you really going to be okay?" Perry asked, concerned.

"Yeah, I think. Kinda just gonna wing it, I suppose. Not much else I can do at this point," Catacomb shrugged, giving his friend a smile which still held doubt. Perry sighed and, though his hand was still slightly shaky, removed his diamond patterned mask. Though his odd red eye was still as scary as ever, his smile spoke more words than could be said by the greatest linguist.

"Just wait until you see her, everything should become clear," Perry spoke clearly, burrowing into his shocked friends mind.

Catacomb took a few seconds before nodding. "I gotcha. Ya know, since on the subject of being truthful, you really are quite the lady killer there. Kinda glad you hide, otherwise you'd steal my meals away," Catacomb said jokingly as Perry fumbled to put the mask back on. "Well, I guess I gotta job to do," Catacomb grinned before walking out, Perry following shortly after.

"How is your day to day?" Reader asked, walking towards the throne room.

Not actually being on duty, the two would wait out the remaining time with the rest of the guests. There was business as usual as servants and guests alike walked by and around them, taking care of what business they had before the big event.

"Still not much for words, I take it?" Reader inquired.

"Not really," Ark said plainly.

"I see," Reader said, looking over the odd design choice for the young man. He seemed very insistent on having a hood for his suit. "I have been around for some time, young man, but to this day, you remain an enigma, even to one with my talents. Try as I might, I can't even begin to pierce the storm that is your mind."

"Why?" Ark asked, glaring at Reader slightly.

"You will have to excuse me, winged one, but I have never seen someone so determine to remain a mystery. I am simply curious, dealing with secrets and what not," Reader responded honestly. "Why is it that you can shelter your mind so well, even from me?"

Ark stopped moving, his partner stopping as well. He took a deep breath, as if to calm himself down. He continued walking, leaving Reader unsure if he should even continue to follow. Taking a breath as well, he proceeded to follow. "I can understand your desire to hide your thoughts. No one wants to have their darker moments exposed to anyone, but besides that one incident, I have never picked up on anything."

Ark quickly turned and grabbed Reader by the collar, pinning him up against the wall. There was little struggle from the victim as Ark scowled intently at Reader.

"You didn't tell anyone?!" Ark said loudly, those around the two backing away quickly.

"Of course. I would never betray the trust of an ally," Reader spoke calmly, despite his current situation. Ark set him down after a few moments, cautiously straightening his outfit back into place.

"Sorry," Ark spoke, a hint of sadness in his tone. "Can we talk about something else?"

"Of course," The two continued their walk, avoiding the gaze of passerby's who witnessed the sudden outburst. "I have taken notice of your current friendship with the elements. How does that go?"

"Fine," Ark said with another one word response. Reader sighed, completely at a loss. Never in his entire life had been completely incapable of reading someone. He gave up the small talk, spending the rest of the time with Ark in complete silence.

"Now Catacomb, remember what I said?" Shining spoke, the two walking towards the preparation room.

"Yeah yeah. Remain vigilant, act professional, and protect the princess from any and all danger. Seriously, Shining, I am a master of my craft first and foremost. Professionalism is my middle name!" Catacomb said proudly. He made sure to double check his sides, not being used to wearing actual human cloths. "How do you people wear these things all the time. The fabric is itchy as hell."

"Be happy Rarity took the time at all to make you something, with how you have been acting lately," Shining snapped, Catacomb frowning but nodding in agreement. "Listen, I am sorry. Things have been intense for all of us. I swear I am surrounded on all sides by royalty myself. Even so, I try my hardest to be what I can be. You can do it to."

"What gives you that idea?" Catacomb sighed slightly.

"Well, you managed to convince me, so that's a hell of a start," Shining smiled. The comment was enough to give rise to a chuckle from Catacomb, who shook his head.

"So should I start calling you bro?"

"I'll stab you," Shining said quickly.

"Love ya too, bro," Catacomb shrugged and slowed his pace, gleefully smiling with his hands behind his head. Shining ignored the voice in his head telling him to commit murder and walked further ahead to avoid Catacomb.

The door in sight, Catacombs nerves suddenly flared up. He gulped, not knowing what to expect. He stayed back as Shining approached and knocked.

"Twily, it's almost time. Are you ready?" Shining spoke up so she could hear.

"It's about time!" Twilight yelled from behind the door. "Everyone else went ahead, what took you so-" She opened the door and looked out, going completely silent. No one could measure the time that passed by while Catacomb and Twilight stared at each other.

"Wow..." Catacomb finally began to speak, not entirely sure what else to say.

"Cata, I'm so sorry I made you mad!" Twilight said quickly.

"I know you're mad at me for-wait what?" Catacomb was about to apologize when he finally pieced together what she said.

"I am really sorry. I understand you might still be upset I missed our date," Twilight looked down. You didn't have to be Reader to tell she really felt that way. Catacomb walked over to her, and hugged her gently.

"You are the silliest woman I have ever met, you know that?" Catacomb said smiling, brushing a rogue strand of hair away from her face. "Did you really think I would get mad because you ascended into royalty?"

"I missed our date," Twilight said again quietly, staring up at Catacomb.

"It's fine, angel," Catacomb said with a wink, gently brushing the new wings on Twilight's back. With a quick squeak, she jumped back slightly, the wings in question stretching themselves outward.

"Careful! They are kinda sensitive. Randomly getting new body parts is definitely a strange feeling," Twilight said with a light smile.

"Preaching to the choir, Twi," Catacomb said with an amused chuckle. She took a few seconds before realizing what he meant, laughing awkwardly in response. "Anyways, I am the one who should be sorry. I should have come to see you sooner. Kinda had to think about a few things. It took a few good friends to help me realize that thinking about things is stupid, so here I am!"

"I don't follow. Thinking your actions through is the basis for a successful day."

"Yeah, kinda figured you would say that," Catacomb smiled, shrugging his shoulders. "Well, here I am, and here you are, the sexiest princess in the entire world."

"That is so sweet of you...what's your angle?" Twilight said with a smirk.

"What? Me? Have ulterior motives?! I am both shocked and appalled by your misguided beliefs about okay that's enough of that," Catacomb quickly changed tone at the end, laughing slightly. "In all seriousness, though, you look stunning."

"And you're actually wearing real clothes."

"How the heck did you know?!" Catacomb said, slightly shocked.

"Rarity is one of my best friends," Twilight said with a grin.

"Oh yeah..." Catacomb quickly moved forwards and wrapped his arms around Twilight, hugging her once again. "I missed you so much, Twi. I really did."

"It's only been a few days," Embarrassed, Twilight tried to keep her voice straight while he held onto her.

"You have no idea, Twi, but I am just happy to be here in the now with you..."

"Cata..."

"Twi..." They started to lean towards one another, their faces inches apart when they were quickly interrupted by someone else clearing their throat.

"Cata, Twi, as much as I enjoy watching my coworker make out with my sister, we are kinda holding up the entirety of Canterlot, so if you don't mind..." Twilight and Catacomb hastily separated, both heavily blushing and remaining quiet as they finally made the long walk towards the throne room.
