Fluttershy and Twilight find two beasts in the forest, and decide to find out what they are, but surprises are in store for them when they realize they are no ordinary creatures...

Fluttershy and Twilight go in the forest to search for Angel when he disappears. Trying to get back to the cottage as fast as possible, the two find Angel, and two other strange creatures. Perhaps these strange creatures are tied to the item that Fluttershy found in the forest on her morning routine, or maybe just a new species awaiting to be cataloged.

Zelda crossover. Both titles belong to their respective owners.

Fluttershy trotted along through Ponyville, wearing a delightfully wide smile today. She was ready, not only for the scheduled hang out with Twilight and Rainbow, but because she had something to show them. The unusual item sitting in her cottage was to be kept secret, until they got there. She didn't even plan on telling them about it until just before they were going in. The thought of what would happen displayed across her mind. What would her friends think, and how would she respond; why would they react the way they would, you know, the usual things.

Fluttershy was caught in somewhat of a daydream as she walked past the Library. She bumped into a mailbox, which broke her out of her deep dream, and allowed her to concentrate again. The mailbox belonged to the Cakes, but surprisingly, Pinkie was the one to exit the building in search of the noise.

The curious pink pony walked up to her friend with a smile, bouncing all the way and even when she stopped. "Heya Fluttershy, having some trouble!" Pinkie, as always, was in a delightful mood. Fluttershy giggled at her friends silliness and allowed herself to speak.

"Why, yes, thank you Pinkie." Fluttershy gave her friend a quick smile, "What are you doing at the Cakes' this early?"

Pinkie stopped hopping in place, but still smiled, "What'chya think silly, I'm watching the Cake Twins."

Fluttershy remembered now. "Oh yes, that's right. Well, sorry to interrupt, but I am getting Twilight and Rainbow Dash, so we can hang out today."

"Oh, well, Twilight's not at the Library right now anyway." Pinkie informed Fluttershy.

Fluttershy slightly tilted her head in confusion, "Do you know where she is?"

"Oh, yeah. Remember that spot that we watched Twilight and Rainbow Dash practice flying?" Pinkie gave Fluttershy no time to answer her obvious question. "Well they're there, practicing again."

"Oh, okay." Fluttershy trotted off into the direction where they were located, but turned around "Thanks Pinkie." She continued trotting in her new direction.

However, there was a letter on the ground, as if it popped out of nowhere. Fluttershy picked the letter up and it read: To Fluttershy. Curious, she opened it to see that it was a letter from Pinkie. She read it aloud. "No problem..." She turned to see if Pinkie was at the door to the Cake's house, but she vanished. Fluttershy shivered at Pinkies craziness, but kept on walking.

Sure enough, Pinkie's word was correct. Her two friends were indeed in the specified location, and they were practicing, but the air was filled with a sense of worry, which was something Fluttershy was good at sensing. She bucked up enough courage in her shy bones to confront the two on what the problem was.

"Hello Twilight, hello Rainbow Dash." Fluttershy took to the air, joining her friends who were also flying.

Twilight heard Fluttershy's faint voice and turned to see her coming up to join them. "Oh, hey Fluttershy."

Rainbow stopped doing tricks, acknowledging her Pegasus friend, "Sup Shy." She continued flying around, doing tricks for Twilight to see.

Fluttershy was puzzled. Surely her friends knew that she was there to let them know that they could come over. "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought we were hanging out today." Twilight smiled back at her.

"Don't worry Fluttershy, we remembered."

"Yeah," Rainbow reassured, "we remembered."

"Oh good." Fluttershy mentally sighed to herself. "Well, I was just letting you guys know that you can come over now. If you want of course."

"That's great!" Twilight exclaimed. "However..."

"Oh no, did I do something?" Fluttershy worried.

"What? No, no your fine, it's just Rainbow needs to practice for the Wonderbolts training this weekend." Twilight explained. "We can still hang out though, don't worry."

"Oh that's good." Fluttershy sighed for real this time.

"Yeah sorry about that Flutts..." Rainbow stopped and held a hoof behind her head. "I wish I could have told you sooner, but it was dropped on me this morning."

"Was it Derpy again?" Fluttershy wondered.

"Yeah."

"Oh, it's okay." Fluttershy smiled, "She is such a sweetheart."

"Yeah, so if you guys want to hang out another time, that'd be great." Twilight nodded to Fluttershy's earlier comment, completely ignoring Rainbow.

"That'd be just wonderful!" Fluttershy exclaimed.

"Well, I wish I could chat for longer, but I gotta keep training." Rainbow turned to fly away, "See ya!" As she flew off, her signature rainbow streak was left behind her.

"Shall we go Twilight?"

"Sure Fluttershy." The two remaining friends flew towards the Everfree border, where Fluttershy's house was. The flying drastically reduced the amount of time needed to get there, and allowed Twilight to practice her still sketchy flying. As they landed at Fluttershy's mailbox, Fluttershy stopped her friend.

"Before we go in Twilight, I thought I might warn you about something." Twilight perked her ears up, and responded with a little 'hmm'. "On my walk in the forest today, I found a particularly old looking item, and I thought that you might find interest in it."

Twilight pushed herself a little faster towards the door. "Well, what is it?"

Fluttershy unlocked the door leaving it closed for a little longer. "I am not entirely sure, but it looks foreign and old." Fluttershy opened the door, allowing her curious friend inside.

Twilight entered, not knowing what to expect with that sort of information. Granted, it was Fluttershy. She was an animal pony, not a book worm. Fluttershy led her to the kitchen, where it was laying wrapped inside a blanket for safe keeping.

"Wow Fluttershy, you sure know how to keep a situation suspenseful." Twilight commented.

Not knowing whether or not to take that as a compliment, Fluttershy just unwrapped the item, or items...

The forest floor was damp, clear sign that it was morning. The two occupants of the clearing were rustling around, awaking themselves from their deep slumber. All animals in the vicinity were either too scared to come out of their homes, or were avoiding the new creatures entirely. They were as alien to the forest critters as some of the forest critters were alien to them. Well, that couldn't be determined until one of them woke up.

However, one brave little bunny got enough courage to bounce up to the two lumps on the ground, poking them with his little soft paw. When no response was given, the little bunny got a little upset, being ignored by new critters. So now, instead of poking, he put some potential energy into his leg, kicking one of them in the, a-hem, hindquarters. The creature didn't bode well to the fact that it was sleeping and it lifted it's head, giving a slight growl to the unwanted bunny.

The creature slumped its way up, but fell back down. The reason being unknown to either the bunny, who laughed, and the new animal, who got even angrier. Getting adjusted again, the unfamiliar animal got up, not failing to step towards the slowly retreating rabbit, who was regretting his earlier decision of coming into that part of the forest.

Fluttershy and Twilight walked along the path in the Everfree. As much as they didn't like going into the forest, Fluttershy knew that this part of the woods was generally 'normal'. With Fluttershy in the lead, Twilight finally decided to question what was going on.

"So, remind me again what is going on?" The lavender Alicorn asked.

Fluttershy tried to find the right words to explain the situation. "Well, when Angel is...bored at home, he likes to come out here. There are a few particular spots he likes better than others."

Twilight finally mad sense of the situation. "Oh, so we are going to his favorite spot of the Everfree then?"

Fluttershy nodded in confirmation, but remained silent. As the two mares continued on their path, they could hear some rustling in the distance, presumably Angel. The two kept regular pace and continued on their way. Before long, another noise emanated from the same direction. It sounded like a growl, but they were both unsure of what made the growl. The only two animals they know of are Timber Wolves, and dogs. It was unlikely that it was a dog, so the only other reasonable explanation hit both of them at the same time. With a quick look at each other, they nodded and galloped in the direction of the horrible sounds.

Correct from her earlier theory, Fluttershy heard Angel's squeals for help, and ran faster than Twilight, even using her wings for a little boost. Twilight tried to keep up, but Fluttershy was more concerned for her little friend than ever at this point. Twilight used her magic to bush a couple thick bushes out of their way, and what they saw perplexed them both, more than terrified.

Angel, who could see Fluttershy instantly changed course. With a quick pounce of his legs, he sprung right into Fluttershy's waiting hooves. Fluttershy embraced her little friend, but the threat was not over. The creature trying to catch Angel, was not fixated on Twilight and Fluttershy. Instead of attacking them, it stopped and stared at them with slight interest. Not know what it was they both were at a cautious state. Twilight moved in a little closer, slowing way down as to not disturb the newly found creature in front of her.

She inched her way towards it, but the creature wasn't ignorant, and growled at her steadiness to get closer. She backed off and looked to Fluttershy. Fluttershy gave Angel to Twilight. "Hold Angel, maybe I can talk to it."

Fluttershy inched her way towards the beast now, which gave the same result to her as it did Twilight. Angel and Twilight both watched in astonishment towards the usually timid pony. "Hey it's okay...I'm not going to hurt you." Fluttershy's kind words did nothing to stop the beast from growling at her. She noticed the chains on its forepaw. Perhaps... "Oh it's okay, I can get that chain off if you want." The beast did nothing but stare her down. If the beast were a threat, Twilight would have to hurt it, so there was one last trick up Fluttershy's metaphoric sleeve: The Stare.

Getting ready to perform her menacing gaze, she looked back to Twilight, who was still in shock at what was happening. After taking in a deep breath, she released it and opened her eyes in such a way, it made a cockatrice stop in its tracks. The beast stopped in confusion to what she was doing, but it resumed its agitating growl.

Now there was nothing stopping it from attacking them beside Twilight's magic, or simply running away, but the new discovery was too much to be left. However, behind the beast, the bushes rustled, revealing another similar beast. This one was smaller, and had different coloring to it. Now Fluttershy understood, it was protecting its partner. She backed off, now understanding the situation. The new beast however, didn't take such an aggressive notice to her, and simply walked up to her.

Twilight was a little skeptical on letting it get close to Fluttershy, but the courageous pony didn't really want to let a chance like this go. The beast sniffed Fluttershy, but gave an approving sensation to the scared pony. As if taunting it's partner, the beast next Fluttershy gave a curt little wink, unnoticed by either of the ponies. The first beast rolled its eyes and agreed to come over to its partner, sniffing Fluttershy, but sneezing from her mane getting in its nose.

Twilight tried to see if her friend was going to respond, but noticed that Fluttershy was in a deep state of shock, and glee. "A-hem, Fluttershy."

Fluttershy snapped out of her amazing time, and regained her original composure. "Oh, right, sorry." Fluttershy looked at both creatures before coming to a conclusion. "We should bring them to the cottage, and see if we can find out what they are."

Twilight nodded in agreement, "I don't agree that that would be the safest option, but seeing as how we discovered a, supposedly, new species, I agree." The two beasts didn't know what was going on, but the smaller, friendlier one of the two thought that sounded like a good idea. The second followed as if they were orders and soon they were all leaving together.

Angel on the other hand didn't agree at all, and only gave squeals of anger as Fluttershy and Twilight reluctantly led the two beasts towards the cottage.

And After

The cottage, which was usually full of little critters, was a metaphoric wasteland. No animals that Fluttershy cared for were around, all except Angel of course.

As Fluttershy tended to her critters, Twilight was deep in study. Why couldn't she find any documents or sources about these creatures. As she flipped through her text books, the only thing she found close to the beasts before her, were timber wolves, ligna lupus, but throughout all her biology books from the library, she can say without a doubt that these creatures have never been seen before. She did send a letter to Celestia, regarding a never before seen species, but no reply from her mentor has been noted yet.

Even though she can't find anything on the beasts, Twilight just scrolls through them again and again, hoping a sign will come up. She did note that the beast from the original encounter has calmed down considerably, but still looks tense around them when they move too close. Still, something about them makes Twilight edgy.

Fluttershy on the other hoof was having the time of her life playing with her new friends. She tried playing ball, but nothing happened, so she decided to just groom them, which they liked a lot.

While grooming the smaller creature, Fluttershy noticed that the larger one had fallen asleep. She still wanted to take the chains off of its front paw, but it had no interest of letting her near it, so she just stared at the chain.

Fluttershy paused for a moment, "Excuse me, but I need to do something." She headed towards a chest like structure across the room, grabbing a blanket from the inside. "If that's okay with you of course." The creature didn't bother to care about her kindness, and wandered off into another room of the cottage. It walked past Twilight, flicking its tail in her muzzle. If looks could talk, Twilight's face would be saying, 'don't do that again, I'm busy'. The beast wore an amused expression across its muzzle.

Twilight noted that. If a creature has a higher intellect to detect humor, than maybe it would be able to listen to them. She only came to this conclusion because of her observations of the other animals Fluttershy takes care of. Twilight just shrugged her shoulders, and continued reading her book.

Twilight, with blanket in hoof, trotted over towards the sleeping critters, hovering above the creature. She unfolded the blanket and noticed it shuffle around a bit. It had a less than pleased look on its face, signaling discomfort. The rolling over allowed Fluttershy to tell that the animal was a male. She didn't really care, the fact that she lives with animals day and night. With that information, she could almost conclude that the other creature was female. Speaking of witch, where was the other one?

Fluttershy looked around the room. It was indeed gone, but to where and why. She gently wrapped the blanket around the sleeping male, making sure not to wake it. When she was satisfied with the end result, she zoomed by Twilight.

"Twilight, did you see where the other one went?" She asked while searching around corners and through doorways. "She shouldn't really wander, you know, because she is new."

Twilight shut the book and sighed, "Yeah," She stretched, giving off an audible crack, "It went this way." Twilight lead the way, leading Fluttershy upstairs. Sure enough, the female was bunched up in Fluttershy's bed, fast asleep. "They look like dogs when they sleep, don't they." Twilight observed.

"Yeah, I've noticed." Fluttershy commented.

They both returned downstairs, finding that Twilight's book was gone. "Hey!" Twilight exclaimed, "Where did it go?"

They both looked in the main room, finding that the male was...reading. "Fluttershy, I don't suppose you have seen that before." Twilight shockingly joked.

"Can't say I have." Fluttershy responded.

The beast had a certain page open, leaving it on the page for them both to see. Twilight grabbed it with her magic, bringing it to her eyes. The page read 'wolf'.

"Hmm..." Twilight was stuck in deep thought for a moment. "That can't be right."

"What is it?" Fluttershy asked.

"The page it has says wolf, but wolves are extinct." Twilight examined the page, then turned to the published date. From the best she could tell, this book was almost as old as Celestia, but why does it say they are extinct.

Suddenly, a knock was heard at the cottage door, followed by a voice. "Hey Fluttershy, you guys in there?" The pony it belonged to was Rainbow Dash, who was caught peeping through the window, she smiled at the sight of Fluttershy and Twilight, but confusion took hold of her at the sight of the beast inside.

Fluttershy signaled for her friend to come inside, which Rainbow obliged to. She walked in, closing the door behind her. "Hey Fluttershy, you get a new pet?"

"Well, two of them, and they aren't really pets, but essentially, yes." Fluttershy replied.

Rainbow trotted up to the creature, inspecting with utmost curiosity. "What is it Fluttershy?"

"Well," Twilight began, "We think it's a species known as wolf, but it says in this book that wolves have been extinct for over a thousand years." Twilight showed the book page to Rainbow, who ignored the book.

"Well, whatever it is, it looks awesome." She flew up to it, which set if off immediately, "Just look at it; it's got a chain from some sort of imprisonment, an earring for Celestia knows what, and awesome markings all over its body. What's not to like about it?"

"It almost attacked us earlier." Twilight pointed out. Rainbow ignored her and move over to the table, which had blanket wrapped items on top.

"Hey Flutts," Rainbow held the item up, "What's this?"

"Oh, I don't know, that's something to ask Twilight later."

Twilight took the item with her magic, keeping it encased inside. "I'm not quite sure, I've never seen anything like it before." She set it back down. "Perhaps it's something from one of Daring Do's adventures." Twilight smiled at Rainbow's sudden interest in the relic.

"Actually, I have a question Dashy. I thought you were practicing for you Wonderbolt thing this weekend?" Fluttershy asked.

"I am, but I decided to visit you on my break." Dash approached the item again, "Because we couldn't hang out today." She held the item in her hoof. It was certainly heavy. Even she was barely able to lift it off the table. She did manage to pull the blanket off of the item, revealing a weapon of sorts. The creature in the room was paying no mind to them, instead staring out a window, lost in deep thought.

"I believe it's a sword of sorts." Twilight explained. "The amounts of energy given off by this thing are very high, meaning that something with vast power forged it."

The creature turned to see what they were talking about, but the item was already stored inside the blanket again, so it looked back out the window. Some thuds were heard around the corner, drawing the eyes of everypony, and the creature. It was the female, coming downstairs. She went up to the male, sitting next to it. It rose its head, looking at the ponies who were, again, too preoccupied to notice. The faintest sound could be heard coming from them, even fainter than Fluttershy's voice towards new ponies.

The female decided to listen in on their conversation.

'So have you told the Princess about this thing?" Rainbow asked.

"Yes, I have." Twilight walked over to the item, looking at the encased goodness. "But she hasn't responded to me."

"Well, how about Luna?" Fluttershy inquired.

Twilight's eye twitched. "Why didn't I think of that?" Twilight went over to the parchment and quill 'station' she had set up in the living room. She wrote the letter to Luna, basically the same thing she sent to Celestia earlier. It outlined what was going on, and asked what to do. With a quick wave of her horn, the letter was sent off to Luna. Now, they had to play the waiting game all over again.

Mangy Cur and Flying Fur

The scene was set, the gears of inevitability were in motion. The object, the sword, Fluttershy found that morning was on the floor. It was knocked off of the table by one of the animals that had decided to come back to the cottage. The blanket, wrapping the object, let a little hole peep through.

The ponies were gone. Fluttershy thought she would be able to trust the two beasts for a meekly ten minutes, and so far, the creatures were keeping up with their end of the bargain. All until the damn squirrel came back to get some peanuts.

The sword made a loud thump when making contact with the floor, alerting the two occupants in the room of the mishap. With both of their attentions focused on the new object in front of them, the male unwrapped the blanket, slowly taking his time to ensure the unknown item would stay intact. The folds, which were now out of the way, revealed a shocking sight. The creature let out a loud bark of sorts, a noise that could be heard from across Ponyville.

Who else to come to the noise, but Rainbow Dash herself. Without any courtesy, she knocked the door open, revealing the creature above the sword. Rainbow stood in thought, about why the animal would have such deep ties with a weapon. Not really being able to think beyond that, she braced herself, noticing the beast getting ready to charge. With a loud bark again, it ran towards her, leaping into the air.

It landed on top of her, taking the fight to the outdoors. They rolled around until halting to a stop. Rainbow, who was still struggling to regain her breath, couldn't believe that the beast was coming for another attack already. She braced herself the best she could. The contact was harder than the original, knocking all the breath she struggled for, out of her lungs.

Now, of all the things to do in Equestria, getting in a fight was one of the worst. Getting in a fight with one of the Elements of Harmony, well, that's a recipe for disaster. Getting into a fight with an Element of Harmony, with two Royal figures coming your way, well, let's just say, banishment isn't the only thing the antagonist has to worry about.

Around the bend, now in sight, Twilight, Luna, and Fluttershy all saw the fight that was commencing in the front lawn of the cottage. To shocked to even do anything, Fluttershy just stayed behind the two, making sure not to get in the middle of the tussle.

Luna and Twilight on the other hand saw this as a threat, obviously taking the required course of action. Luna, went on the offensive, whenever she could, as to not hit Rainbow Dash. Twilight tried to find the right time to separate the two, but the creature's ability to fend off a magical separation was, for a lack of a better term, impressive.

However, the fact still remained: a very powerful creature was getting ready to tear the throat off of the Element of Loyalty.

The beast circled Rainbow Dash, dodging any small blasts the new 'enemy' was sending towards him. Easy, but difficult to fight with a strange feeling in your whole self. The familiars, the ones who brought the obvious monarch, were helping in the distractions; they would be next on the kill list.

The female beast, stayed at the door, observing the fight rather than even attempting to look interested in joining in. She was watching, making sure the male was staying out of two much trouble. She appeared to be laughing at the whole situation entirely. Odd, considering her friend was about to get roasted on the sun.

The beast lunged once more, barely gripping Rainbow Dash. The two landed in the creek just outside the cottage. Now wet, the fight got even more challenging for Rainbow Dash to get away. Wet feathers were not a Pegasus's friend. As it was, the beast made one final attempt to do anything, it bit the wings of the Pegasus, clamping down with enough force to audibly crush the bones inside.

"Ahh!" Rainbow couldn't get away this time. She violently thrashed about, hitting the beast, but to no avail. It didn't let go. The female finally took interest in what was happening, noticing that the monarch of the group, was charging a shot of magical energy.

The female finally intervened, jumping in to help the male dodge the oncoming blast. The shot was timed perfectly. He was the only thing it would have hit. Rainbow was instead being dominated by the more powerful creature that was now off of her. The male, clearly upset by her interruption, snarled at her, barking her away so he could finish what he started. To his surprise, the Pegasus was already gone.

Darkness, was all that he could see before finally falling onto the ground from shock. The monarch, Princess Luna, shot him with a stun spell of sorts. The effect would last for hours. She left him where he lay, walking past to help the now hurt Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow was clearly upset, staring daggers at the unconscious animal. "USELESS CUR!!!" She screamed before getting taken inside. Twilight walked past it, going to aid Luna in the hopefully quick field recovery of Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy on the other hoof stayed behind, trying to get the beast up from its unconscious state.

It was heavier than anticipated, and when she couldn't struggle anymore, she noticed the female starting to help. The two of the helped carry the seemingly lifeless body back into the cottage, setting him down where he was before the whole fiasco. While the female stayed with the male, Fluttershy left to see if she could help Rainbow Dash.

Luna and Twilight had her positioned on the couch, trying to bandage the broken and bleeding wings. Fluttershy trotted up to her friend, a little frustration showed upon her face. "What did you do?"

Rainbow, flabbergasted by her friend simply had mouth agape. "What do you mean! It barked, so I came looking to see why. When I saw it, it was looking at the sword." This caught Luna's attention.

"What sword?" The Lunar monarch asked.

Twilight levitated the sword over to the couch, letting the Princess examine it. "Either that creature knows what this thing is, or it has a really quick and aggressive obsession with it." Luna took the sword from Twilight, examining the markings and the detail that went into the masterfully crafted sword. "Did anything else appear with this sword?"

Twilight went back into the kitchen, bring what appeared to be a shield out for Luna to see. "They definitely look like a matching set." Twilight inquired.

"Yeah, let's talk about a matching sword and shield while Rainbow bleeds all over Fluttershy's stuff." Rainbow was still furious, letting all the anger that would have been let out in the battle, onto her friends. The two Princesses took medical action once again, helping Fluttershy with the bleeding.

Twilight prepared a mending spell, while Luna tried to remember a spell to heal broken bones. "Maybe this will work?'" Luna said while charging her horn.

"Maybe?" Rainbow hesitantly asked.

Before being able to get an answer, the two Alicorns cast their magic, infusing enough healing magic to fit an army. The intertwining magic made the pain sting more, causing Rainbow to cry in agony. The pain went away after a few seconds though, making the experience a lot more comfortable than it could have been.

"So..." Fluttershy began. "What's going to happen to the animal?"

Luna looked down at her, thinking it was obvious enough. "Well, dear Fluttershy." Luna finished up her healing spell, now putting all her attention to the question at hoof. "To answer your question, I am going to see what the books say, but if my knowledge is correct, than I would say our friend here is in for a long painful ride."

Fluttershy was mortified. "Why? It was probably just startled by the sword hitting the ground, and thought it was Rainbow." Fluttershy couldn't bear the thought of seeing the animal getting harmed. "Or maybe-"

"Dear Fluttershy, I didn't mean it to be so harsh sounding, but things must be done." Luna thought for a moment, "Unless..."

"Unless what!?" Fluttershy was on board if it involved saving the animal.

"Unless it knows what this thing is." Luna answered.

Rainbow looked at the beast laying in the corner. "Oh yeah, and how is that cur going to tell us, huh?"

"Well, I don't know about you girls." A new voice emerged from the ensuing silence. None of the ponies made the voice, so who could it have been? "But how about a little trade?" They all looked around in a fascinating curiosity. "Information for a 'cur's' life..." They all looked to where the voice was coming from. The only thing they could see, was the female rounding the corner of the doorway.
