It was a beautiful winter night and the moon of Princess Luna shined down across the land of Equestria. In the town of Ponyville, the townsfolk have all settled down for the night. Many parents were putting their children to bed. However none of them noticed a teary eyed young unicorn mare wearing a black coat trotting through the streets with a basket being gently levitated with her magic. The young mare's pace began to quicken as she felt a cold wind blow against her. With tears still streaming down her face, she had stopped in front of the Golden Oak Library.

Standing at the doorstep, the mare gently set the basket down while quietly crying uncontrollably. Whatever was in the basket began to stir a little before settling down. The mare closed her eyes as more tears began to flow down her face. She continued to quietly cry as she bent down and nuzzled whatever was in the basket. She then took out a note from her coat pocket and placed it on the basket. Giving whatever was in the basket a kiss, the mare knocked on the door of the library and ran off into the night, leaving what was in the basket all alone on the doorstep. She looked back only once before she disappeared.

The door of the library opened and revealed A beautiful, young unicorn mare with a lavender coat and a purple mane and tail with a streak of pink in the middle. This unicorn was none other than the most gifted and magical pony in all of Equestria, Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight looked around to see who had knocked on her door only to find no one there.

"Hello!? Is anyone there!?" she shouted into the abandoned streets. "Hello!? Is anyo-" Twilight gasped in shock when she looked down and saw the basket that was left on her doorstep.

In the basket was a baby unicorn colt with dark gray fur and a black mane that shined beautifully under the moons reflection. The baby was wrapped in a blue blanket and was sleeping peacefully. Twilight stared at him in disbelief wondering where he came from and where were his parents. She then saw the note that was on the basket. Opening the tear stained note, she only found one sentence.

"Please take care of my precious baby boy."

Twilight stared at the note for a moment before looking back at the sleeping baby colt. She didn't know why but she could feel powerful magic flowing through his body. It was not as strong as the magic of the royal pony sisters or her own but it was still strong. A cold snap of wind blew across Twilight's body, making her shiver. Not wanting the child to be cold, Twilight's horn glowed and she gently levitated his basket in a gentle and warm magical aura. She very carefully brought it into the library before gently and quietly closing the door. She then brought the sleeping infant over to the fireplace and set him down to where he would be warm but would not overheat.

The baby let out a small yawn and Twilight couldn't help but smile. She then quietly went upstairs to tell the only other person living with her about what she had just found. Sleeping in a basket in Twilight's bedroom, was a small purple dragon with green spikes. Twilight entered the bedroom and shook the little dragon.

"Spike, wake up!" Twilight said quietly

Spike opened his eyes and was startled when he saw Twilight's face. He let out a yelp of surprise but was quickly silenced by Twilight's hoof so he didn't wake the baby downstairs.

"Shhhhhhhh!" she said

Spike glared at her and brought the away from from his mouth.

"Twilight, what do you want!?" Spike nearly shouted before twilight hushed him again.

"Shhh! Not so loud, Spike!" Twilight said "I'm sorry to wake you, but I need to show you something."

Spike groaned before getting out of bed and following Twilight downstairs. When they arrived Spike gasped in shock when Twilight showed him the sleeping baby colt.

"I-Is that a baby!?" Spike stammered in disbelief

"Yes it is, Spike." Twilight responded before looking at the infant.

Spike looked at him as well before asking, "Where did it come from?"

"The baby is a colt Spike." Twilight corrected "and I don't know where he came from."

Twilight explained that all she found was a note with one sentence that asked her to take care of the baby. She also told Spike about how she could feel a great amount of magic flowing through him. Spike listened to Twilight's every word until she finished.

"What are you going to do with him, Twilight?" Spike asked the unicorn as she was gently stroking the baby colts mane.

Twilight continued to stroke his mane as she said, "I don't know, Spike. I suggest we write a letter to Princess Celestia about the baby and ask what I should do."

Spike nodded his head as he went to grab a scroll and a quill. When he returned, Twilight had him write the letter about the baby colt and asked her what she should do with him. Spike finished the letter and set it on a table to be delivered in the morning. He then looked at Twilight who was looking at the sleeping child. Spike looked at him as well before asking Twilight one more question.

"What about our friends?" Spike asked curiously

"We'll ask them to come by tomorrow and I'll explain everything." Twilight said softly.

Spike nodded his head in agreement. Before letting out a yawn.

"I'm gonna go back to sleep. Are you coming Twilight?"

Twilight once again stroked the baby's mane before saying, "I better sleep down here tonight, Spike. I don't want to leave him all alone. I'll sleep on the couch, can you bring me a pillow and blanket?"

Spike saluted and ran upstairs to grab a spare pillow and blanket. In a matter of seconds he returned downstairs and put them on the couch. Twilight smiled at him gratefully and Spike smiled in response.

"Goodnight, Twilight." Spike said before going upstairs.

"Goodnight, Spike." Twilight responded as her assistant disappeared upstairs and closed the bedroom door.

As Twilight set up her makeshift bed for the night, the baby began to cry. Twilight gasped and quickly rushed over to him. Almost instinctively, she scooped the baby into her forelegs and cradled him close to her. The baby's crying continued as Twilight wrapped his blanket around him. She then began to make a soft hushing sound to the crying child. She then sat in a chair by the fireplace and began to gently rock the child.

"Shhh..It's okay little one, please don't cry." Twilight cooed into the baby's ear.

The baby's crying continued as Twilight hushed and rocked him. Twilight brushed his tears away with her hoof as fresh ones formed.

"Shhh..I'm here, I've got you..Shhh." Twilight hushed softly and sweetly.

She then remembered a soft melody that her mother had sang to her every night when she was a baby. She continued to rock the crying infant in her forelegs, as she began to hum softly into his ear. The baby could hear Twilight's soft and beautiful voice and began to calm down. His crying reduced to sobs as Twilight hummed the melody. Twilight continued to hum as she brushed a loose hair out of the baby's tear stained face. The baby's sobs reduced to small hiccups and then sniffles. Twilight finished humming the song and continued to rock him, as she once again made a soft hushing sound. The baby colt finally fell asleep and Twilight continued to hush and rock him for a few more minutes. She then gently brushed whatever tears he had away with her hoof, just as her mother had done for her.

"Sweet dreams, little one." Twilight said softly as she gave the baby a gentle kiss on the forehead.

With the baby fast asleep in her forelegs, she placed him back in the basket and tucked his blanket around him. Giving him one last kiss on the forehead, Twilight went over to the couch and tucked herself in. Laying her head down on the pillow she turned and looked at the baby sleeping peacefully and comfortably by the low and warm fire. Twilight gently smiled at him before closing her own eyes. She then fell asleep with the moon of Princess Luna shining down upon her.

Princess Celestia's sun began to rise in the horizon as Spike began to wake. He did a few small stretches and let out a loud yawn. Getting out of his basket, he went downstairs to see how Twilight was doing since last night. When he arrived, he saw her sitting by the fireplace. She was cradling the baby unicorn colt she had found last night and his head was resting in the crook of her foreleg. She was busy feeding him a warm bottle of milk from a baby bottle that she has kept since she first started taking of Spike. As the baby continued to drink the milk, Twilight looked up and saw her number one assistant smiling at her.

"Good Morning, Spike." She said gently

"Hey, Twilight," Spike replied happily "Did you sleep alright last night."

Twilight nodded her head. After she had rocked the baby to sleep last night he didn't wake up until a few minutes after her. After a minute, the baby was halfway done with milk. Twilight put the bottle down and quickly burped him. Spike walked over to the infant and stroked his mane gently. The baby started trying to grab Spike's hand but then quickly turned his attention to the bangs on Twilight's mane. he started playing with them while babbling happily. Twilight gave the child a gentle smile before turning her attention to Spike.

"Do you want me to send the letter to, Princess Celestia?" Spike asked her curiously.

Twilight nodded her head and said, "Yes, Spike, hopefully she can help me figure out what to do."

Spike nodded his head before going over to the table where the scroll he had written last night laid unmoved. He took a deep breath and used his magical fire to send the scroll. Looking back at Twilight, he saw her trying to get the baby to settle down.

He walked up to her and said, "You know, your doing a pretty good job taking care of him, Twilight."

Twilight blushed and gave Spike a small smile before saying, "Thanks, Spike, but I don't know what to do. Whoever left that note wanted me to take care of this baby colt. I just don't know if I'm really capable of being a mother yet. I just hope the princess knows what to do."

Twilight then looked down at the baby who looking around curiously before trying to reach out to the bottle of milk. He started to whimper and whine as he reached for the bottle. Twilight settled him back into the crook of her foreleg before feeding him the rest of the milk. The baby began drinking happily as Twilight softly smiled at him. She then began to think about her friends.

"Spike, I'm sorry to ask but can you go find our friends and tell them to come here." Twilight asked gently

Spike saluted and said, "Don't feel sorry, Twilight, you just take care of the little guy and I'll be back before you know it."

With nothing left to be said spike went out the door, leaving Twilight and the baby colt alone. Twilight looked back down at the infant and gently nuzzled him as he drank the milk. After a few minutes, he finished of the milk and Twilight burped him once more. The baby then saw Twilight's horn and started trying to grab it. Twilight softly smiled as she held the infant and watched him try to grab her horn. he really was an adorable little colt and he was starting to rub off on her. Twilight then heard her stomach growl and she remembered she had not eaten breakfast yet. The baby let a soft yawn and Twilight gently kissed him on the forehead while giving him the gentlest of smiles.

"It looks like someone's ready for a nap." She said to the baby sweetly.

She then got up and went over to the basket she found him in last night. She placed him inside and covered him up. However the baby wouldn't fall asleep. He held out his little forelegs to Twilight and began whimpering and whining once more. Twilight sat down and stroked his mane

"No, no, no," Twilight said as she tried to get the child to settle down. "It's time to take a nap, little one."

She then began to hum to him the same lullaby she hummed last night. The baby heard Twilight's melodious voice and yawned once again before falling asleep. Twilight gently kissed him on the forehead before getting up. With the baby asleep, she went into the kitchen to make herself some breakfast.

About an hour passed and Twilight was able to finish breakfast and take a bath before her friends had arrived. When she returned downstairs to check on the baby, she heard a knock on her door. Twilight guessed it was her friends and when she opened the door she saw that she was correct. Standing in front of her were all of her best friends as well as spike. Before she let them in she put a hoof to her mouth telling them to be quiet. Spike and the rest of the main six nodded their heads and Twilight stepped aside to let them inside.

When they entered she took the baby colt out of the basket and went to sit in a chair by the fireplace. She motioned for her friends to come over. When they arrived, they awwe'd when they finally saw the sleeping infant cradled in twilight's forelegs. They all gently smiled at him as he snuggled his head into Twilight's soft chest fur and began sucking his hoof.

"Oh he's such an adorable little darling." Rarity said sweetly and happily

"You're right about that Rar," Applejack said gently but quietly. "But if you don't mind me askin' Twi, where did the little feller come from?"

Twilight let out a sigh and she began to explain to her friends the events that had happened last night. She told them about how she found the baby on her doorstep and about the note that asked her to take of him. She also told them about the feeling of strong magic inside of him. Everyone listened intently. Pinkie was listening as well but she was also getting closer and closer to the baby. She was always excited to meet new ponies now matter how old they were.

"What's his name..um if you don't me asking?" Fluttershy asked shyly.

Twilight shook her head and said, "I don't know, there was no name on the note."

Pinkie pie was now to close to the baby for comfort. This worried Twilight a little bit but before she could say anything, the colt opened his eyes and he was staring into the large blue eyes of the hyper pink party pony. The colt began to whimper and make and make faces of fear.

"Ooh the cutie's making funny faces." Pinkie said excitedly before making funny faces of her own.

The colt now began to cry and scream in fear of the hyper pink pony.

"Pinkie, your scaring him!" Twilight snapped sternly before Applejack pulled the pink pony away from the baby and back to the group.

"Oh hehe...sorry. I got carried away" Pinkie said sheepishly while rubbing the back of her neck.

Twilight rolled her eyes and began to softly hush the crying infant in her forelegs.

"Shh...It's okay, sweetheart, I'm here." she cooed sweetly.

The baby's cries quieted down a little bit, but he continued to cry as Twilight softly hushed and rocked him until he fell asleep. After he was once again asleep, Twilight let out a sigh of relief and brushed away the tears from his face.

Spike then came up to Twilight and showed her a scroll before saying, "I forgot to tell you that the princess replied to your letter after I left. I was going to come back and tell you, but I decided to wait until I found the others."

Twilight nodded her head and looked at Fluttershy.

"Fluttershy, could you hold him for a few minutes?" She asked her.

The butter coated Pegasus nodded in response and Twilight carefully handed the sleeping infant to her. Fluttershy cradled the baby close to her gently rocked him as Twilight read the letter aloud.

"My dearest Twilight,

I thank you for letting me know about the events that have happened. I ask that you come to Canterlot later this evening with the child so I may see him for myself.

Princess Celestia"

Twilight let out a long sigh. She had hoped the princess could help her a bit more. However it was probably best to let her see the baby for herself.

"So, what are you going to do, Twilight?" Rainbow asked curiously

Twilight shook her head and said, "I don't know, Rainbow, I guess I'll have to wait until this evening to find out. I know the letter asked me to take care of him, but I just don't know if I can be a good mother for him."

"Well don't worry," Rainbow said with a smile on her face in a confident tone of voice. "I'm sure the princess will point you in the right direction."

Everyone nodded in agreement as the baby colt began to wake. Fluttershy gently kissed him on the muzzle and he began to play with her long pink mane while giggling and babbling happily. He eventually caught Fluttershy's mane and he put some of it in his mouth and started sucking on it. Fluttershy giggled at the sight of this and everyone else did as well. Fluttershy then saw on the clock on the wall and gasped when she saw the time.

"Oh goodness, I need to get home. I haven't yet fed my animal friends." She said quietly before handing the baby in her forelegs back to Twilight.

"I hate to be rude but I must leave as well," Rarity said before flicking her mane. "Let me know what the princess says, Twilight, darling."

"Same goes for the rest of us, Twi. I'll see ya later" Applejack said happily before heading out the door to return home.

Pinkie waved goodbye to Twilight and Spike before bouncing out the door. Rainbow quickly asked if she could check out a Daring Do book and twilight nodded her head. The cyan Pegasus mare grabbed a book and checked it out before saying goodbye.

When she left Twilight looked down at the infant in her forelegs and smiled at him. She figured it would be best to feed him once again before the evening came. The bottle she fed him this morning wasn't very much. But before she did she saw Spike come out of the kitchen with a gem in his hand.

"Hey Spike, How about you take the day off today. I'm gonna go ahead and close the library for the day." She said to him

Spike smiled and asked, "Really, are you sure?"

"Nopony ever comes in today anyway." Twilight said as the baby began playing with her bangs again.

Spike quickly nodded his head in agreement.

"Alright then, I'm gonna go take a nap." he said as the baby began to pound on Twilight.

She held his little hooves before replying, "Alright, I'm gonna feed the baby again and let him take another nap. He's starting to get a little fussy."

Spike chuckled and said, "Good Luck, Twilight."

He then ran upstairs as Twilight giggled. The baby continued to pound on Twilight when she heard his stomach grumble.

"Okay little one, Let's give you some more milk." She said to the baby sweetly before going into the kitchen.

She levitated the bottle with her magic and the baby tried to grab the bottle. Twilight giggled at the child as she put the bottle on the table and used her magic to fill it halfway with milk. She didn't want to upset his stomach. After putting a top on the bottle she used a heating spell she learned to warm the milk until it was the perfect temperature. The baby began pound on Twilight's chest again while babbling.

Twilight giggled and said, "Alright, alright, settle down."

She then sat back in her chair and put the baby's head back into the crook of her foreleg. She then put the bottle in his mouth and held it while he drank the milk happily until it was finished. With the bottle empty the baby began to cough a bit violently when he was finished he started crying. Twilight gently hushed him and nuzzled him. The baby continued to cry until Twilight started to sing to him another soft melody that her mother had sang to her when she was a baby. The crying colt once again heard her beautiful voice and fell asleep almost instantly. Twilight gave him a soft and motherly smile and decided to hold him for a few more minutes before tucking him in.

She gave him a gentle kiss on the forehead before saying, "You really are adorable."

The sun began to set and as she was requested, Twilight was getting ready to head to Canterlot with the baby unicorn. She very carefully wrapped him in a blanket so he could be warm. The princess had written set one more letter saying that she would be sending a carriage to personally escort Twilight and the child to the castle. Going upstairs, Twilight saw that spike was once again asleep and she didn't want to wake him. She wrote a quick note that said where she went and left it on the table. When she finished, The carriage arrived outside the library with the sleeping infant being gently levitated with her magic.

Once she was inside the carriage she levitated the colt into her forelegs and cradled him close to her. The baby snuggled snuggled into Twilight's chest fur and let out a soft yawn. A smile formed on twilight's face and a small tear escaped from her eye but she quickly brushed it with her hoof. She could only hope that the princess would point her in the right direction. The moon began to rise when the carriage finally arrived at the castle. The baby opened his eyes and looked into the loving violet eyes of the mare that held him. He began giggling and babbling happily and reached out for her. Twilight nuzzled his stomach and gave him a kiss on his muzzle. She put the child on her back and made sure he was calm and still before going anywhere. She then made her way into the castle and into the the throne room.

When she arrived at the throne room there was guard there that blocked her path. However, before Twilight could say anything, the guard began to speak.

"Welcome, Twilight, the princess has been expecting you. She request that you meet her in her royal chambers." he said to the young unicorn

Twilight nodded her head and made her way to Celestia's bedroom. When she arrived, she knocked on the large golden door and it was soon answered by the princess herself. The teacher and student hugged each other for a moment before Celestia allowed Twilight inside. Once she was in the room the princess offered her some tea while the baby on her back looked around his new environment with curiosity. Twilight accepted the tea and used her magic to sip the tea. The baby started trying to grab the cup making both Twilight and Celestia giggle.

Princess Celestia gently smiled at the young infant before saying, "The curiosity of a newborn is a wonderful thing."

Twilight smiled at the baby and took him into her forelegs. She gently stroked his mane as the princess finished her tea.

Celestia let out a long sigh and began to speak once more.

"Twilight, you wrote in your letter that you could feel strong magic coursing through the baby's body. Can you try to explain what you mean?"

Twilight let out a sigh and nodded her head before speaking.

"It's not dangerous magic It's just very strong magic. It's not as strong as my magic or yours but it still feels oddly powerful even for a newborn baby. I know baby unicorn magic is very strong and chaotic, but this little one's magic feels different like it's more powerful than regular unicorn magic."

The princess listened to Twilight's every word. She then found an answer.

"Well, Twilight," she began "Some unicorns have more powerful magic inside them. It's nothing to be worried about, it just means that this young child has great potential when it comes to magic. He would no doubt be able to master the basic spells quickly with proper guidance and direction."

Twilight nodded her had in understanding. She then gently smiled at the young child in her forelegs. He began to yawn and whimper, letting twilight know he was tired. Twilight giggled and gently rocked him until he fell asleep. She gently kissed him on his muzzle before looking at the princess. Now there was only one question left to answer.

"Princess," Twilight began "What should I do with this little one."

Celestia looked at Twilight curiously

"What do you mean, my dear?" she asked

"I'm confused," Twilight replied. "I don't know what to do with him. The note that I read when I found him asked me to take care of him. I don't know if I have what takes to be a mother. I just don't know what to do."

A few small tears escaped from Twilight's eyes. She brushed them away before they fell onto the baby. Celestia levitated a tissue over to Twilight and Twilight quickly wiped her tears away and blew her nose.

"Twilight, do you really want my advice?" The Princess asked curiously

Twilight nodded her head and Celestia gave her a gentle smile.

"I think you should do nothing." she said

Twilight looked at her in confusion before asking, "what do you mean?"

Celestia giggled and said, "I mean you should not worry about doing anything with the child. You should become his mother and raise him as your own."

Twilight continued to stare at the princess in confusion before saying, "But I still don't think I can, Princess."

Celestia softly hushed twilight before laying a wing over her. She then spoke to Twilight in the softest and gentlest of voices.

"Twilight, listen to me. you can take care of him, your just afraid. Remember you are the one who has raised Spike since he was a newborn. I was there to guide you in the beginning, but you were the one who cared for him the most. If I recall when you first started taking care of him on your own you were worried that you wouldn't be able to. But you were able to take care of him on your own, and you have been able to do the same with this child. You have shown him the loving care of a great mother. He needs you, Twilight."

Twilight listened to the princess every word.

"But what about his magic?" She asked

The princess giggled and said, "What better unicorn to teach him magic than my most faithful student, who is the most magically gifted unicorn in all of Equestria."

Twilight blushed a little bit before looking on that sleeping infant in her forelegs. She gave him a gentle smile and kissed him on the forehead. She then began to realize how much she has come to care for him. Everything she had done to take care of him came to her naturally. She had held him, fed him, and rocked him to sleep, just as her own mother had done for her, and just like she had done for spike when he was a newborn. A small smile began to form on her face. Maybe she could take care of him."

"Do you really think I can do this?" Twilight asked the princess

Celestia gave Twilight a warm motherly smile and said, "Listen to you heart, Twilight. If anypony can take care of him, it's you."

Twilight let out a sigh and looked at the baby once again. He snuggled into Twilight's chest fur and began sucking his hoof. A small tear escaped from Twilight's eye a she gently kissed him on the forehead. The princess was right, he needed her.

With new found confidence Twilight let out a sigh of relief before saying to the princess, "Alright, I'll become his mother. You're right Princess, I can take care of him."

The princess let out a sigh of relief before saying, "I'm glad you now realize that Twilight. I will send you the adoptions papers tomorrow. I suggest you head back to Ponyville. I wish you a good night and a congratulations on becoming the little one's mother."

Twilight smiled and bowed her head in respect to the princess before thanking her. She then put the sleeping child on her back made her way to the exit. She was ready to head back to Ponyville but she needed to do one more thing before she left Canterlot. She was just about to open the door when the princess spoke up.

"Oh I forgot to ask?" She began, "What is the little one's name going to be?"

Twilight thought for a second. She had forgotten that the baby didn't have a name yet. She thought long and hard before coming up with the perfect name. She looked at the child sleeping peacefully on her back and gave him a gentle kiss before telling the princess her new son's name.

"His name is, Shadow Light."

Chapter 4

Princess Luna's beautiful moon shined down upon Canterlot as Twilight and her new son Shadow Light made their way down the quiet and empty streets. Shadow was sleeping peacefully on his new mother's back. Twilight was ready to head home, but she needed to one more thing before she went back to Ponyville. She wanted to visit her parents so she can not only introduce Shadow Light but also get some motherly and fatherly advice. The cold winter air made shadow light sneeze and Twilight picked up her speed to get to her parent's house. She didn't want her son to catch a cold.

When she arrived at her parents house, she knocked on the door and it was soon answered by a beautifully aged unicorn mare with a white coat and a white and purple striped mane and tail. This was Twilight's mother, Twilight Velvet.

"Twilight!" Mrs. Sparkle said with surprise. "It's so good to see you. Come inside before you freeze."

Mrs. Sparkle stepped aside and let her daughter inside the house. Once Twilight was inside, Mrs. Sparkle closed the door and the two embraced each other in a loving hug. They stayed like that until a another pony entered the room. It was a unicorn stallion with a light blue coat and a dark blue mane and tail. This was Twilight's father Nightlight.

"Twilight!" He said before hugging his daughter. As Twilight hugged her father, Mrs. Sparkle let out a gasp of shock when she saw the sleeping infant on Twilight's back. She tapped on Twilight's shoulder and Twilight turned around to face her. Mr. Sparkle also gasped when he then saw the baby on his daughters back.

"Twilight," Mrs Sparkle said in somewhat of disbelief. "why do you have a baby unicorn on your back?"

Mr. Sparkle went to his wife and stood beside her before looking at Twilight with curiosity. Twilight let out a sigh and looked at Shadow Light before looking at her parents once again.

"Mom, Dad, this is my new son, Shadow Light." Twilight said softly.

Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle's eyes went wide and there mouths hung open when they heard those words. It took about a minute for both of them to snap out of their trance like state.

"W-what do you mean honey?" Mr. Sparkle finally said.

Twilight let out a sigh and began explaining to her parents the event's that occurred over the past two days. About ten minutes had passed by the time she was finished. Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle listened intently to their daughters story. Their mouths were hung open one again by the time Twilight was finished. After about a minute Mrs. Sparkle finally closed her mouth and gave her daughter a gentle smile. she then wrapped a foreleg around her while Twilight looked at her in shock. She returned her mothers hug while looking at her in confusion.

"What was that all about, Mom?" she asked

"Twilight, honey, I'm so proud of you." Mrs. sparkle replied as a tear fell down her face. Mr. sparkle levitated a tissue over to his wife and wiped her tear away before giving twilight a soft smile.

"Y-you guys aren't upset?" Twilight asked in confusion.

"Why would we be upset?" Mr. Sparkle asked.

"I just thought you guys wouldn't like the idea of me raising a child right now." Twilight explained

Mrs. Sparkle giggled and gently moved her daughter head to look her in the eyes.

"Twilight, sweetie," she began. "Your growing up into a beautiful and intelligent young mare. This decision was not ours to make. It was yours and yours alone. From what you told us, you care about the little one on your back very much, and you have thought long and hard about the decision to become his mother. We are your parents and we are going to respect and support your decision."

Twilight hugged her mother again with a few tears rolling down her face. Mr. Sparkle wrapped them both into a hug before smelling an odor coming from the child on Twilight's back.

"I think our new grandson needs a diaper change." he said making both Twilight and Mrs. Sparkle giggle.

Mrs. Sparkle broke the hug and looked at Twilight

"Twilight, how about you go wash up." She said sweetly. "We'll take care of Shadow Light for a few minutes. "

Twilight nodded her head and gently took her son off of her back. Shadow Light then opened his eyes began trying to grab Twilight's horn. Twilight giggled as she handed him to Mrs. Sparkle. Shadow Light immediately became frightened and began whimpering and whining while reaching out his little forelegs to Twilight.

Twilight softly hushed him before saying, "I'll be back in a little bit, sweetheart."

Shadow Light could somewhat understand what Twilight was saying and began to calm down. Twilight gave him a gentle kiss on the forehead and went upstairs. A few minutes passed and Twilight returned downstairs. Her parents had changed Shadow Light's diaper and and replaced it with a fresh one from a pack that Twilight had brought when she was visiting while babysitting the Cakes Twins for a few days.

Shadow Light was now being held by held by Mrs. Sparkle who was was sitting on the couch and she had his head held in the crook of her foreleg while she fed him a warm bottle of milk. Shadow drank the milk happily until it every last drop was gone. With the milk finished, Mrs sparkle set the milk on a table next to her and burped Shadow Light. Shadow saw Twilight and began babbling while reaching out to her her.

Twilight giggled and softly smile before saying, "come here, sweetheart."

She then took Shadow Light out of her mothers forelegs and put them in hers before sitting in a chair next to Mrs. Sparkle. She gently smiled at her son and kissed him on the muzzle which made him giggle. He eventually yawned and snuggled into twilight's warm and soft chest fur before falling asleep. Twilight kissed him once more more on the muzzle before looking at her mother.

"Where's Dad?" Twilight asked

Mrs. Sparkle smiled and said, "He's upstairs getting you something."

The second those words left her lips, Mr. Sparkle came down the steps and he was levitating a small box with his magic. When he arrived in the living room, he sat down beside his wife, levitated the box over to his daughter and set it down in front of her.

Mrs. Sparkle began getting a little teary eyed as Twilight asked, "What's this?"

Mr. Sparkle softly smiled and said, "This is a music box, Twilight. We've had it ever since Shining Armor was born."

Mrs. Sparkle wiped her eyes before saying, "When your father and I had to leave for a few hours, we would play this music box and you both would fall asleep until we came home."

Mr. Sparkle smiled as he reminisced in the memories when he first played it for both Shining Armor and Twilight.

"This belonged to your grandmother and she passed it down to your mother after she had your brother. Now we're passing it down to you, because you are the first of our children to have a child." he said gently

Twilight choked up a little bit she hardly remembered her grandmother, she had died before twilight was even born. Her parent's always told her about her and now she has one of her family's most valuable items.

"Thank you!" she said almost inaudibly before looking at her sleeping son. Her happy moment was soon ruined by thoughts of doubt as she watched him sleep.

"Mom, Dad, do you think I can really take care of Shadow Light?" Twilight asked both of her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle both gently smiled at her daughter and Mr. Sparkle said, "Of course we do. Remember your the student of Princess Celestia, One of the elements of harmony, and the most magically gifted unicorn in all of Equestria. I'm sure you can handle a child of your own."

Mrs. Sparkle then began to speak.

"Your just afraid, sweetie. All new mother's are. I was the same way when I first had your brother but that fear soon melted away when I heard his first words. When I had you The fear came back, and I was afraid that I couldn't take care of two children, but that fear passed when you took your first steps. What I'm saying Twilight is being afraid is just natural but it goes away when you have those special moments with the ones you love."

Twilight gave both of her parents thankful smiles and let out a long, tired yawn.

"Can I sleep here tonight?" Twilight asked her parents politely

Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle giggled and said, "You can sleep here anytime, you know that."

Twilight giggled and carefully put Shadow Light on her back. She then carefully levitated the music box with her magic before saying goodnight to both of her parents and heading upstairs. Once she reached her old bedroom, she opened the doors and went inside before closing the door. She looked around and began thinking of all them memories she had in here. However her memories were interrupted when Shadow Light woke up and began to cry. Twilight took him in one foreleg and sat on her bed and cradled her son close to her.

"Shh...It's okay, sweetheart." Twilight softly cooed "Shh...Mommy's here, Mommy's got you...shh."

Shadow's cries quieted down a little bit but he continued crying. Twilight then remembered the music box she had just gotten She used her magic to levitate the box and open it. She then flipped a small switch on it. Twilight softly hushed her crying child and began to gently rock him as the music box began to play.

When the music box quit playing, Shadow Light had stopped crying. Twilight continued to hush and gently rock him as his little eyes closed. Twilight kissed him on the muzzle and very carefully got into her bed. She pulled the blanket over her and Shadow Light. Princess Luna's moon shined down on them as Twilight's eyes began to close.

Before she completely fell asleep she gently kissed her son on the muzzle one more time and said, "Goodnight, my little Shadow Light."

As the first drops of winter snow began to fall down from the beautiful morning sky, Twilight slept peacefully in her old bedroom with a smile on her face. Her beautiful violet eyes began to open when she felt something stroking her cheeking. Turning her head she smiled sweetly at the sight she saw. Shadow Light looked at his new mother a babbled happily while trying to play with her mane.

"Good morning, Shadow Light." Twilight said sweetly as she stroked her sons back.

Twilight's smile soon faded when Shadow Light began to whine. She found out the reason why he was whining when his stomach rumbled loudly. Shadow continued to whine as Twilight held him close to her as she sat up in her bed.

"Okay, sweetheart, let's go downstairs and I'll make you some milk." She said softly hoping Shadow would calm down.

Shadow's whining quieted down a little bit, but he still softly whimpered. Twilight gave him a tender kiss on the muzzle to sooth him, and she then placed him on her back before heading out the door. Because he was asleep last night, Shadow Light looked around curiously at his new environment. His eyes moved in every direction as Twilight descended the stairs slowly. His eyes soon rested on the outside as he began to giggle and clap his hooves when he noticed the snow outside a window. Twilight giggled at the infants eagerness and began speaking to him.

"That's snow, sweetie, isn't it pretty?"

Shadow just babbled until he could no longer see the snow. He tugged on Twilight's mane making her look back at him. He pointed his little hoof towards the wall while whining.

Twilight giggled and said, "It's okay, Shadow, you'll see the snow again when we leave."

When they arrived downstairs, Twilight saw her mother sitting on the couch reading a book.

"Good Morning" Twilight said to her mother in order to catch their attention.

Twilight Velvet looked up from her book and said, "Good Morning, sweetie, did you sleep okay last night?"

Twilight nodded her head and walked up to her mother.

"Where's dad?" she asked curiously

"He had to go into town, for a little while." Velvet replied

Twilight nodded her head again before hearing her sons stomach rumble once more followed by Shadow softly pounding on the back of her head.

"Mom can you watch Shadow Light for a little bit while I go make him some milk?" Twilight asked

Velvet giggled and said, "Of course, sweetie."

Twilight used her magic to gently levitate Shadow Light into her mothers forelegs. Terrified, Shadow began to whimper and reach out for Twilight.

"Shh..It's alright, Shadow, mommy will be back." Twilight Velvet said sweetly trying to calm the little colt.

Twilight kissed him on the muzzle and walked into the kitchen. Shadow Light however, wasn't calming down. The second Twilight was out of his sight he began to cry in fear. Velvet simply hushed him and softly stroked him as he continued to cry.

"Shh..It's alright...Mommy will be back. Don't cry, you sweet little child." she said sweetly.

Shadow listened to her soft and gentle voice and began to settle down.

"That's better." Velvet said before kissing the colt on the Muzzle.

In the kitchen, Twilight went to the refrigerator and took out some milk. She then put the milk in a baby bottle, and used the heating spell to warm it. As the milk warmed up, Thought's of doubt began to reenter Twilight's mind. She began to fear something bad happening while she raised Shadow Light. What if something happened to him? What if something happened to her, and Shadow was left all alone with nopony to take care of him? Twilight couldn't understand why she was so scared about raising a child of her own. Twilight however put her fear aside as she finished heating the milk. She then levitated the milk and went back into the living room.

She sat down in a chair as Shadow saw her and began whining once more and reaching out for her. Velvet gently levitated him over to her daughter and Twilight took him in her hooves and rested his head in the crook of her foreleg.

"Here you go, sweetheart." Twilight said to the infant with a gentle smile on her face.

She put the bottle of milk in his mouth and held it while he began drinking happily. Twilight continued to smile at her son before it was soon replaced with a frown that her mother easily noticed.

"Twilight, sweetheart, what's wrong?" She asked with concern.

Twilight shook her head not wanting to answer.

"Are you still worried about taking care of, Shadow Light?" Velvet asked.

Twilight was hesitant but she nodded her head.

Velvet sighed and used her magic to levitate her daughter over to her side just like she did when she was filly. Twilight made sure to hold on to Shadow Light tightly as the little infant didn't seem to mind as he drank his milk happily.

Velvet set her daughter down beside her and wrapped a foreleg around her and began speaking to her sweetly as she nuzzled her cheek.

"Twilight, why do you doubt yourself? You know better than I do that you are perfectly capable of taking care of a child. You have taken care of Spike ever since you first hatched him. You are as much of a mother to him as I am to you. Listen to your heart, sweetheart, you love Shadow Light, just as much as I love you, my sweet little filly. I promise you can take care of him."

Twilight let a small tear shed down her cheek as her mother brushed it away with her hoof. She then rested her head against her moms neck as velvet softly stroked her mane.

"Thank you, Mom, you make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I love you." Twilight said as Shadow Light finished drinking his milk and snuggled into his mothers soft chest fur.

Velvet closed her eyes and smiled before kissing her daughters head.

"And I love you, my little Twilight."

The heartwarming scene was interrupted by a chime from the clock on the wall.

"I have to go home Mom."

Velvet nodded her head and Twilight went back into her room to grab the music box she was given. She put it in a bag that her mother gave her and she put on her back.

Twilight looked at her mother and gave her a loving hug while saying, "Tell Dad I love him."

Velvet kissed her daughter on the forehead and said, "I will, I hope you will come back soon."

"I will," Twilight replied before putting Shadow Light on her back. "Goodbye, Mom, and thank you."

Twilight exited her old home and closed the door behind her while Velvet let a tear roll down her cheek while saying, "Oh, Twilight, you've grown up so fast."

At the train station, Shadow Light giggled and babbled happily as he played with snow that dropped from the sky. Twilight soon handed her ticket to the conductor and went inside the train. She soon found an empty car and used her magic to gently levitate the music box onto a seat. She sat down in the seat while she set her son on her lap. Twilight looked down at Shadow who crawled up her chest and got nose to nose with her making her giggle,

"Alright, Shadow, let's settle down now." She said sweetly as she placed her son back on her lap and held him close.

Shadow soon let out a yawn and rested his head against Twilight's soft warm chest fur. Her soft and gentle heartbeat soothed the young infant. His little eyes began to close and before he fell asleep, he uttered a word the brought tears to Twilight's eyes.

"M-Mom-m-ma"

Twilight let her tears flow free as she remembered her mothers words from last night.

"being afraid is just natural but it goes away when you have those special moments with the ones you love."

Twilight gently hugged her sleeping child and nuzzled his cheek. She no longer felt afraid, she knew now without a doubt she would be able to take care of her new son.

"I promise I will always love you, my little Shadow Light." she whispered softly and sweetly in the young colts ear.

She then let out a sigh of happiness as she held Shadow Light close to her and looked out the window as the train made it's way to Ponyville and her new life.

"Come on, Shadow Light, you can do it!" Twilight cheered as her son's horn began to glow.

Shadow Light used every bit of strength he had to try and lift the book in front of him with his magic. The book began to glow for about a second before the glowing red aura around it faded away. The book landed on the ground with a thud and Shadow Light stamped his hoof on the ground in frustration.

"It's no use Momma, I'll never be able to do magic like you!" he said sadly as he sat down in sadness with his back turned towards his mother.

Twilight sighed and gave her son a sad smile even though he wasn't looking at her.

It's been six years since Twilight adopted Shadow Light. During that time Shadow has become a very sweet colt but he can also be a little bit stubborn, but Twilight still loves him all the same. Shadow can also be a little bit timid around new ponies. His big brother Spike has tried to help him be a little less shy but has not been very successful.

Slowly trotting up to look Shadow in the eyes, she saw small tears rolling down them. Twilight grabbed her son and gently pulled him into her loving embrace.

"Oh, Shadow Light, don't say that you just need some more practice." she said sweetly as rubbed his side with her hoof. She hated hearing him talk like that when he couldn't do a spell.

Over time Shadow's magic grew as weak as Twilight's magic when she was a filly. Even though he strives to be just as good with magic as his mother he can't seem to do some of the basic spells. Twilight tries to encourage her son that he will do better, but anytime Shadow fails he judges himself far to harshly.

However, Shadow Light's magic wasn't always weak. There are several times where his magic will sometimes act up when he gets angry or scared, and he will do uncontrollable blasts of powerful magic. These outbursts have caused him several problems in the past. When Shadow was old enough to go to school he was bullied by several other colts and fillies because of his outbursts of magic. The bullying became so bad that Twilight pulled him out of school and began to home school him. During the weekdays Twilight would teach him the basic things like math and history in the mornings. In the afternoons as business in the Library began to settle she would teach him magic.

Looking up at his mother, Shadow Light gave her a small smile and broke the hug. He was about to try again until Twilight put her hoof on his shoulder and gave him an expected look.

"Shadow, What did I tell you about not taking a break from using magic?" She asked in a soft but firm tone.

Shadow let out a sigh and replied "That If I don't take a break I could hurt myself from trying to hard."

"That's right," Twilight replied "We'll try again tomorrow, why don't you go out and play for a while."

Shadow smiled and said, "Alright, Momma, I'll be back later."

Twilight leaned down and kissed him on the forehead before saying, "Alright, sweetheart, just be sure to be back before dark."

With that said, Shadow Light kissed his mother on the cheek and ran went out the door with Twilight watching him leave.

Strolling through the town, Shadow Light looked around at the goods ponies were selling as well as other ponies who gave him a happy smile and waved hello to him. Even though he was smiling Shadow was actually very sad on the inside. Everyone in Ponyville was nice to him but Shadow didn't have any actual friends. Spike was the only one who ever played with him but he was at Rarity's right now. Shadow Light has tried in the past to make some friends but because of his random bursts of magic he was made a social outcast by all the colts and fillies at school.

As Shadow walked past the town fountain he felt a sharp pain on the back of his head.

"Ow!" He whined as he rubbed the back of his head with his hoof.

Turning around, he saw a small stone on the ground as well as laughter.

"What's the matter Shadow Light!?" A cruel voice said

looking towards the source of the voice Shadow began to shake a little bit. Coming his way were a group of ponies led by a filly with a pearl white coat with a dark blue mane and tail and on her flank was a sparkling diamond.

"H-Hi St-Star" Shadow said nervously

Star was the daughter of one the rich ponies in town and was one of Shadow Light's bullies. She constantly teased him for his magic problems and being Twilight's son but she mainly teased him for not having a cutie mark.

"Aww...you hear that everypony the wittle Momma's boy know my name." She teased in baby talk as all the colts and fillies behind her laughed

Shadow began to shake even harder as Star began circling him.

"So why are you out here blank flank, did your Mommy not give any homework or did you set your house on fire with your stupid magic?" she teased cruelly as she flicked his nose with her tail.

Stars friends howled with laughter as Shadow rubbed his nose.

"W-What do you want S-Star?"

Star giggled and said, "I was just wondering why you bothered to show your ugly face out here. I mean how can you possibly think anyone in Ponyville likes a freaky unicorn who can't control his magic?"

the group behind star laughed like maniacs as some of them were rolling on the floor laughing. Shadow couldn't say anything as tears rolled down his face and as Star glared at him.

"I'm also here to make you pay after you turned me into an icky bug with your weird magic at School. I ought to have my Daddy sue your Eggghead mother and throw you in the Everfree forest."

the crying shadow Light covered his head with his hooves and silently wished that Star and her friends would go away and leave him alone.

"You really are pathetic Shadow Light, I mean you actually believe your mother who's a bigger nerd than you actually loves you?" Star said cruelly

As that comment left Star's mouth, the fountain turned and as if by some miracle the water began to spray out of control and sprayed Star who screamed in as she looked at her fur.

"AAAAH! MY BEAUTIFUL COAT!" She yelled at the top of her lungs before looking at Shadow with rage filled eyes. She thought he was the one causing the water spray her. "YOUR GOING TO PAY FOR THAT YOU LITTLE FREAK!"

Before she could do anything the out of control fountain sprayed her her again as well as Shadow Light but Shadow didn't care. Star continued screaming as the water began spraying her and her friends as well. They eventually all ran off to get away from the fountain and Shadow Light.

Some Ponies eventually turned off the water and Shadow laid on the ground and started to cry. Stars cruel words continued to ring in his head.

"W-why did sh-she say that?" he sobbed as he tried to calm himself down but was unsuccessful.

Shadow continued to cry until he heard laughter he looked to see two identical earth pony colts laughing. They each had light amber fur and dark brown manes as well blue eyes.

"Hahaha! I can't believe that worked!" one of them said as the other got closer to the fountain. He climbed up to the top of it and pulled out something, it was a plug.

"The old fountain plug prank, what a classic!" The one at the top of the fountain shouted.

"Bonus points for splashing, Star!" the first one said before laughing happily as the other jumped down from the fountain and laughed with joy.

The two colts continued laughing until they saw Shadow Light. They smiled and started trotting up to him. Shadow shook in fear as the colts stood in front of him.

"Hey, you okay?" the one on the left said cheerfully

"Yeah, you look a little wet!" the one on the right finished at the two laughed at their joke.

Shadow Light however thought they were teasing him just like Star was and ran off crying. The two colts looked at the fleeing colt in shock before chasing after him.

"Hey, wait!" one of them said.

The two colts thought they lost Shadow Light until they saw him underneath a tree in the park crying. The two carefully approached him hoping that he didn't run off again. Shadow saw them and backed himself up against the tree while whimpering in fear.

"Hey," one of the colts said hoping not scare Shadow Light.

"We didn't mean to upset you back there." the other one said

"Yeah," the first one quickly said. "We were just trying to get a laugh out of you. But I guess that wasn't our best idea."

Shadow began to calm down because he now knew the colts weren't trying to be mean to him. He looked at the two colts with tears rolling down his cheeks

"S-so you g-guys made the fountain s-spray Star?" he asked curiously.

The two colts smiled and said at the same time "Yep!"

"Allow us to introduce ourselves," the colt on the left began "I'm Zip and this is my twin brother Zap!"

Zap smiled and said, "We just love having fun, pulling pranks, and making ponies laugh. What happened at the fountain was our best idea yet!"

Zip high hoofed his brother before saying, "Now that you know who we are, we want to know who you are."

The twins sat in front of Shadow who said nervously, "M-my names, Shadow Light."

Zip and Zap just smile at Shadow before reaching out a hoof. Shadow each of their hooves and shook them.

"Well, Shadow Light," Zap began "Why would you be crying on such a glorious day?"

Shadow looked down in sadness as he remembered Stars cruel words about him. Zip saw Shadow's sadness and put the pieces from earlier together.

"Let me guess, Star?" he said while cringing at the mention of the spoiled filly's name.

Shadow just nodded his head before speaking.

"She was making fun of me because I have problems controlling my magic sometimes and also because I don't have a cutie mark yet. All the other colts and fillies like to bully me and don't want me around."

Zip and Zap feel bad for trying to make a joke to Shadow Light earlier, but they were happy they were able to stop Star's tormenting. The twins looked at each other for a moment and smiled sadly when they realized that they had something in common with Shadow Light.

"We know how you feel, Shadow" Zip said

"Nopony wants us around either," Zap finished "All the colts and fillies make fun of us sometimes because we do everything together and we like to pull pranks on them sometimes."

Shadow had now stopped crying and gave the twins a sad smile.

"I'm sorry." he said sadly

"Hey, don't be," Zap quickly replied, "We don't let ponies like Star get to us, we may be brothers but we're also friends."

Zip put a foreleg around his brother and Shadow smiled at them happily before looking back down in Sadness.

"I don't have any friends." he said as a few tears formed in his eyes.

Zip and Zap smiled and helped Shadow Light to his hooves before each of the put a foreleg around Shadow's shoulders

"Well you do now!" they said together.

Shadow gasped and a huge smile began to form on his face.

"R-Really?" He stuttered happily.

Zip nodded as Zap said, "We like you Shadow Light, and everyone needs a friend."

Shadow was at a lost for words he couldn't believe he finally had friends. He couldn't be happier than he was at that moment, but that happy moment was interrupted by the chime of the Ponyville Clock Tower and the setting of the sun.

"Oh No! I need to get home!" Shadow said as he realized how late it was getting.

"Where do you live?" Zip asked

"The Golden Oak Library!" Shadow replied

The twins smiled as Zap said, "That's not to far from here, come on, we'll race you home!"

With that said the three colts took off to the Shadow's home with smiles on their faces. When they arrived Shadow said goodbye and ran into the Library."

"Momma, Momma!" Shadow yelled throughout the Library as Twilight came down the stairs.

"There you are Shadow Light!" She said happily as Shadow jumped into her.

She was just able to catch Shadow and hold him as he happily said, "Momma, I finally made some friends!"

Twilight gasped and said, "That's wonderful sweetheart! You'll have to tell me all about them!"

Shadow Light smiled as he hugged his mothers neck and began telling her everything that had happened today.

At Carousel Boutique, Shadow Light stood in a very painful pose as his Auntie Rarity sketched them down on a pad.

"Shadow Light, darling, I must thank you for being a model for your dear, Auntie Rarity," She said sweetly to the young colt as he whined quietly from the pain he felt from standing in the pose to long. "Tell me how are you doing?"

"I can't feel my neck." He complained to his aunt as his hooves struggled under him.

"Oh don't worry, sweetie, this won't take much longer."

Shadow continued to quietly groan and whine because that was the same this his Aunt had said thirty minutes ago. After a few more grueling minutes of holding the pose Rarity finished sketching and said, "Alright, Shadow, you can stop posing."

Shadow broke the pose thankfully the second those words left Rarity's lips. As much as Shadow hated being a model, he loved his Aunt enough to be one whenever she asked him to be. Taking a moment to get feeling back into his neck, Shadow looked up and saw Rarity smiling at him as she used her magic to give him a glass of water.

"Thank you, Auntie Rarity." Shadow said politely

"You're welcome darling," Rarity replied "I know that pose wasn't very comfortable, but it will surely help me make the most beautiful of outfits."

Rarity stared at the ceiling with a dreamy look in her eyes as she envisioned crowds among crowds of ponies lining up at her store to buy her newest outfits. She then levitated another glass of water over to her as she began to ramble about how successful she would be. Seeing her use her magic so perfectly made Shadow Light a bit jealous that she had such perfect control of her magic. He then suddenly spoke up snapping Rarity out her fantasy.

"Auntie Rarity, can I ask you a question?" He asked her softly

Rarity looked down at her young nephew and replied, "Of course sweetie, you know you can ask me anything?"

Shadow looked at the ground and rubbed one of his forelegs with his hoof as he asked his question.

"Um, well, I was wondering how you got so good using your magic."

Rarity looked at him for a moment knowing where this was going.

"Are you still having trouble with your magic, Shadow?" she asked

Shadow nodded his head sadly. A soft smile formed on Rarity's face as she placed a hoof under his chin and lifted his head up with her hoof to look him in the eye's while she talked to him.

"Oh, sweetie," she began "There's no need to be Upset. Using magic takes both practice and time. I should know, when I was a little filly I had trouble controlling my magic sometimes too. But the more I practiced the better I got with it. I may not be as skilled with it as your mother is but I know it took her time and practice as well to be as strong as she is with it. So chin up, darling, I know one day you will be as great as your mother is with Magic as long as you give it time and practice and with your mother by your side teaching you, you will be able to control it in know time."

A small smile was able to form on Shadow's face as Rarity gave him a small kiss on the forehead.

"But, darling, if I may ask why are you so fascinated all of a sudden with being good at magic?" Rarity asked curiously "I know you want to be as your mother with magic, but I think there's something else making you want to get better."

Shadows smile faded away and he looked back at the ground in sadness.

"I'm tired of being picked on by Star and all the other colts and fillies in Ponyville, about not being able to use my magic right." He said sadly. "They all think I'm a freak because I accidentally shoot magic."

Rarity huffed angrily hearing Star's name

"Oh, that horrible, filly, I swear, if those new ponies in town don't control they're daughter, your mother and I will take matters into our own hands." She snapped out loud making Shadow a bit scared. Rarity saw this and quickly apologized.

"Oh, I'm sorry sweetie," she said softly before turning away and rubbing the side of her head in irritation about the subject. "I just can't stand hearing about that filly picking on you all the time. I hear that another filly that just moved here is having the same problem with her."

Rarity looked back at Shadow Light and gave him another soft smile before speaking to him once again.

"You shouldn't just let yourself be bullied by her, darling. You need to stand up for yourself, don't let her bully you. I know it sounds easier said than done, but I promise you, if you find the courage deep down inside of you, you will be amazed just how easy it is to be brave and stand up for yourself."

A smile reformed on Shadows face and he nodded his head, understanding what his aunt just told him. He then heard the chime of a clock on her wall showing them how late it was.

"I better get home before, Momma, get's worried." Shadow said to his aunt. "Thank you for talking to me, Auntie Rarity."

Rarity bent down and nuzzled his cheek as she replied, "Your welcome, darling, thank you for helping me today, my sweet young nephew, now run along."

Shadow hugged her quickly and ran out of the boutique while shouting behind him, "Bye, Auntie Rarity!"

Rarity softly smiled as the room became quiet and said, "He's such a sweet child, Twilight has done well raising him."

Running through the town Square, Shadow saw several ponies closing up their shops. Some of them waved to him as an elderly stallion called out happily, "Evenin', Shadow Light, you better be gettin' home before it get's too dark."

"I will, sir!" Shadow responded as he ran through the streets.

The colts and fillies in town may be mean to him, but the adults have been very kind to him for as long as he can remember. Even though he was bullied he did love his hometown.

Running down the square, Shadow saw Zip and Zap's house. He wished the two colts that were his only friends could come out and play, but they had gotten into trouble and they're mother grounded them after they pulled a prank on Mayor Mare. They had offered her a drink they had made using special herbs from the Everfree Forest and the drink made her voice voice high and squeaky.

Leaving town square Shadow heard a familiar voice nearby as well as another much quieter voice he did not recognize.

"What's the matter blank flank are you gonna go crying home to your Mommy again?" The familiar voice asked cruelly.

Shadow ran towards the source of the two voices and saw Star standing in front of a cowering, teary eyed young Pegasus filly about his age. She had a sky blue coat with a pink mane and tail and in her mane she wore a sea green bow.

"That must be the filly, Auntie Rarity, was talking about." Shadow said to himself quietly not wanting to be heard by star.

"You are so pathetic," Star said cruelly with a mean grin on her face, not knowing Shadow Light was behind them. "I can't believe your a Pegasus, and you can't even fly. Your just like Shadow Light, your nothing but a freak. What happened did your Mommy drop you when you were a baby? Oh Wait, you still are one!"

The filly at this point broke down and cried.

"That's right cry you little freak. Don't ever touch my beautiful coat again. I don't want it getting ruined with your blank flank germs." Star said almost threateningly

The filly continued to cry as she spoke up in a broken and scared tone of voice.

"I-I'm sorry I-I didn't m-mean t-to bump into y-you." She sobbed.

Star imitated her mockingly and laughed at her misery.

"Oh, yeah I also heard you like to sing to animals, I bet they all hate your singing because your voice is so horrible." She teased cruelly.

The filly cried even harder as Star continued to verbally torture her. Shadow watched on in disbelief as the spoiled rich filly completely verbally abused the poor filly just like she did to him.

"What do I do, that little filly needs help." Shadow said to himself wondering how to help her, Suddenly the voice of his Auntie Rarity began ringing in his ear as he remembered something she said to him.

"You need to stand up for yourself, don't let her bully you. I know it sounds easier said than done, but I promise you, if you find the courage deep down inside of you, you will be amazed just how easy it is to be brave and stand up for yourself."

Remembering those words Shadow took a deep breath and came out of hiding just to hear Star something horrible to the filly.

"I bet your Mommy doesn't even love you. You should do her a favor and just get lost, because I bet she won't go looking for you."

Shadow gasped as the Filly cried as hard as she could.

"That's enough Star, you leave her alone!" Shadow shouted at the filly

Star turned around and glared angrily as she instantly recognized Shadow's voice.

"Oh, look it's the other blank flank freak." she teased to Shadow Light

Shadow was hurt by those words but he stood strong not taking anymore of Star's cruelty towards the filly she was bullying.

"Go away, Star!" Shadow snapped

"Oooh, Nice comeback." Star replied dripping with sarcasm. "Don't you have something to destroy with your stupid magic?"

"That filly didn't do anything to you, now leave her alone, and go away." Shadow said angrily

Star simply glared at Shadow Light as the colt did the same to her.

"Whatever," Star scoffed "I don't need to deal with you losers."

With that said, Star got ready to leave, but not before looking back at the crying filly and kicking several clouds of dirt on her with her hind legs. She then walked past Shadow Light and painfully rammed her backside into his side as she moved, almost knocking him over. Shadow rubbed his side in pain as Star walked off with her nose high in the air.

Shadow let out a sigh of relief now that Star was gone and he went over to filly to check on her. She looked up at her savior with fear in her eyes. She had dirt all over her face and in her mane and tail thanks to Star kicking it on her and she was still crying but not as hard since she was looking at the pony that helped her.

"Are you alright?" Shadow asked softly but worryingly.

The filly shook her head before burying her face into her hooves and continuing to cry.

"I'm sorry that, Star, said all those things to you." Shadow said softly to her trying to provide comfort.

The filly looked up at Shadow as she heard the kindness in his voice. The tears continued to stream down her face as she sniffled and whimpered.

"W-why, did she h-have to s-say all those m-mean things?" She sobbed.as she spoke to Shadow with fresh tears in her eyes.

Shadow shook his head at her before saying, "Don't listen to her, she's always mean."

The filly couldn't help but continue to cry as Shadow looked at her sadly. The filly eventually calmed down a bit and brushed her tears away with her hoof as she sniffled. She saw lightning giving her a soft smile and she finally gave him a small weak smile.

"Th-thank you for helping me." The filly said sniffling a bit.

"You're welcome," shadow replied kindly "I couldn't let Star keep saying mean things to you."

The filly's smile began to grow a little more now that she realized her savior was very nice. Shadow continued to smile and then gently rubbed one of the filly's forelegs with his hoof to help give her some more comfort, just like his mother did for him. The two remained silent as Shadow reached out a hoof to help the filly up to her hooves. The filly looked at the hoof for a moment and slowly grabbed it and Shadow gently pulled her up. The filly then brushed all of the dirt out if her mane with her hooves and brushed her tail against a nearby tree getting all the dirt out of it as well. She then went back to Shadow light and Shadow finally spoke up.

"So, um, what Star said about you flying, is that true?" he asked the filly

The filly started to tear up again thinking that Shadow was going to start teasing her now. Shadow saw this and immediately started shaking his head violently and holding his hooves up telling her to stop.

"No no, no, no, I'm sorry. Please don't start crying again, I'm not trying to make fun of you. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Shadow said frantically.

The filly looked at him and wiped her eye's with her foreleg while sniffling.

"R-really, you're not gonna make fun of me?" She asked shyly through sniffles.

Shadow shook his head replied, "No I'm not"

"Okay," the filly responded "Yes, what she said is true, I'm a very weak flyer."

Shadow simply smiled and nodded before saying, "It's alright that you can't fly, I have a problem too, I can't control my magic."

The filly's face beamed up a little bit hearing that.

"Really, then you understand me?" she asked Shadow who nodded his head in response.

The filly then suddenly hugged Shadow Light, nearly tackling him to the ground.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you so much for understanding!" She said happily as she hugged him. The filly then noticed what she was doing and blushed with embarrassment before letting go. "Um, hehe, sorry." She said with a little giggle.

Shadow simply waved it off. "It's alright, by the way my name's, Shadow Light."

The filly looked at him shyly and smiled at him sweetly.

"My names, Sweet Note." She said to him

The two remained silent for a Moment before Shadow realized that star was teasing her about something else.

"Um, Star said something about you, liking to sing to animals, do you?" He asked her.

Sweet Note blushed a little bit and replied, "Yes I do, since I came here to Ponyville, I go to the fields every day and sing to the animals and they seem to like it."

Shadow Light smiled at her, Sweet Note was just like his Auntie Fluttershy in so many ways.

"That sounds great I would love to hear you sing sometime, I'm sure my friends would like it too."

Sweet Note continued to blush at the compliment and rubbed one of her forelegs with her hoof.

"By the way, where did you move from?" Shadow suddenly asked

"Oh, my, Mommy and I just moved here from, Cloudsdale." Sweet Note replied.

Shadow smiled at her sadly.

"It must have been tough to move away from all of your friends." he said to her.

Sweet Note's smiled immediately disappeared when she heard Shadow Light say that.

"Um actually, Shadow Light, I've never had any friends." She said sadly

Shadow's smile smile now disappeared upon hearing that. She was just like him until he met Zip and Zap. He felt a little bit sorry for Sweet Note, she was a really nice filly. Shadow then remembered something that Zip and Zap had said to him, everyone needs a friend.

"Well, do you wanna be friends with me, Sweet Note?" Shadow asked her.

Sweet Noted gasped at hearing that and her smile quickly returned, bigger than before.

"Do you really wanna be friends with me, Shadow Light?" She asked hopefully

Shadow smiled and nodded his head.

"Of course I do, your really nice, and everyone needs a friend." he replied to her.

Sweet note then tackled Shadow Light into another hug.

"Oh thank you so much, Shadow Light!" She said happily before realizing she was hugging him. She blushed in embarrassment again and let him go. However before either of them could say anything their heard a voice coming from over a hill.

"Sweet Note!" The voice called out.

The two looked up at the the hill and saw a young Pegasus mare with a light blue coat and a light purple mane and tail smiling and waving at them.

"Sweet Note, it's to come home, honey!" The mare called out.

"Coming, Mommy!" Sweet Note called in response before looking at Shadow Light. "I better go home, Shadow, do you wanna play with me tomorrow?" She asked him sweetly.

"Shadow nodded his head is response before saying, "Of course, Sweet Note, we're friends now. I'll come by tomorrow and I'll introduce you to my other two friends, I'm sure they'll want to be friends with you too, and maybe we can listen to you sing to the animals."

Sweet Note blushed again at hearing her sing before saying, "That sounds fun, Shadow Light." She then turned around and ran towards her Mother while calling back to him, "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye, Sweet Note, I'll see you tomorrow." Shadow called back as he watched her hug her Mother and disappear over the hill with her.

Shadow Looked up at the sunset and Smiled before turning and running home to Twilight with a smile on his face to tell her all about the day he just had, he had just made another new friend and he couldn't be happier than he was now.
