I was not always Discord.
At one point, I had no name. Names didn't exist yet. The very idea of a title was something I would have scoffed at. I knew who I was, so what did it matter if anyone else did?
As time wore on however, the idea of names became more prevalent. Though I myself never applied them, I would wear countless names over the vast eons. I would be known as Scourge, Drought, Blight, Chaos, Madness, and Entropy, and those were just some of the simpler titles I went by!
Now however, I was Discord.
That's the funny thing about names. They can change at the drop of a hat. For example, most would consider love to be a name for affection. However, to one of my traveling companions, Love was a word for food, no different from something like say... french fries. Or take the name of Twilight Sparkle. Once it would have been seen as the name of a student, gleefully discovering the world of friendship. Now it was the name of a murderous goddess determined above all else to kill me.
What a weird world we lived in these days.
After a five day journey, we had exited the Everfree for the first time in several months now. I did not like what I saw. The grass was yellow and prickly from lack of rain, and the earth was dry and cracked. As I shuffled along through the withered landscape, small clouds of dust kicked up at my feet. Above my head, the sun and moon both occupied the sky forming a blinding eclipse. The stars too were out, though burning far brighter than I had ever seen them. They were like pinpricks of light against an already blazing backdrop.
Beautiful, yet terrible.
Luna, Chrysalis and I prepared to take to the sky, but stopped suddenly. A strange noise assaulted our ears, like the high pitched grating of metal on metal. We looked up, nearly blinded by a new, even brighter light in the sky. I shielded my eyes, then was thrown off my feet in a sudden blast of fire, smoke, and kicked up dirt.
I landed on the ground spine first, momentarily paralyzed with shock. The air had been knocked out of me, and I struggled to catch my breath. In a moment my breath returned and my vision cleared. All I could see was fire. The forest trees, at least those that had not been splintered by the blast, were now ablaze, as was the dry grass beneath our feet. Thick black smoke rose in great plumes, blotting out the sun, moon, and stars. I coughed as I floated up, trying to locate my companions.
I swept my claw through the air, and the fire followed, leaping up off of the grass and wood and into the air, forming a massive ball of flames. Clenching my fist instantly dissipated the blaze, leaving only a few crackling embers in its place.
I quickly scanned the area, finding Luna and Chrysalis looking very shocked and singed, but also very much alive. I breathed a sigh of relief, before regrouping with them. Not a single one of us could believe what had happened. This was no freak act of nature, that was for sure. This was a direct attack from the goddess herself.
She had nearly wiped out all three of us without being anywhere near us.
Even one as old as me had to shudder at the thought.
If we weren't in mortal peril of another attack, this would have been a prime time for us to discuss at what point a god became an abomination. Perhaps a lengthy discussion on whether it was power or personality that turned something into an abomination. But no. Now it was time for us to flee screaming through the sky as more and more of the goddess' assaults rained down around us. I did my best to deflect or dissipate the raining balls of flame as they crashed around us, but it felt nearly impossible.
It felt as though the world around us was ablaze, like we had been swallowed up in a sea of flames. The ground beneath us was an endless stretch of burning fields and houses and screaming ponies as far as the eye can see.
The last time I had seen such misery was during my brief stint in Tartarus. Before I knew what had hit me, I lay face down in the dirt, choking on smoke. I struggled to breathe, at least until I bent the laws of nature to breathe in smog. I lifted my claw, prepared to once again dissipate the raging inferno, before an unseen force sent me sprawling. I scrambled to get to my feet, before once again being tossed like a rag doll.
There was a pretentious metaphor about me being an unneeded and unwanted toy in this somewhere.
I tried to rise a third time, only for the world to be suddenly blotted out from my vision. I felt every bone in my body snap in an instant, then crackle back into shape with the next. Finally, I pushed up, breaking through the object that had crushed me.
A house.
There was a brief respite as I caught my breath, before a new pain seared through my chest. I glanced down, and saw my chest pierced by what looked like a piece of molten iron, and felt about as pleasant. Without even a second to react, I was suddenly ripped upwards into the air, just before something solid struck the back of my skull and sent me throttling earthward once more.
I tried to get up, feeling as though my body had been crumpled like a paper ball.
I felt something warm and sticky coating my stomach.
Blood.
I cast my eyes skyward, and saw a single winged form slowly descending from the heavens.
I am Discord.
And for once in my life, I am afraid.
Chilling.
Hot damn, even Discord's afraid. Hell, wouldn't we all be?
Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see where this goes.
I swear, this is the worst kind of story for me to get into. One that just makes me salty and upset with empathy for the lost and those undergoing pain.
YET I CANT STOP REAIDNG DAMNIT!
I find it strange that the only thing that can truly hurt him is the EoH ... what being the physical manifestation of chaos. Yet he forgets that the laws of nature don't work for him when Twilight starts raining fire around them. I think the last few years have made him senile if he forgets what he was doing before trapped in stone the first time around.
You need to find a way to stop making these so perfect.
It just isn't fair when you can insinuate more in a thousand words than another could in 100,000.
In all seriousness, this is a rather chilling read, yet I am somewhat confused as to exactly what level of immortality Discord possesses.
Obviously he can bend reality to his pleasing on a whim, and he seems to subconsciously repair any damage he receives as easily as any other would breathe unhindered, yet he applies this ability to alter reality's guise in what feels like such a novice manner.
For one, being afraid of someone doesn't seem to make sense when you hold the ability to transmute their brain into a potato or their whole being into a boulder, yet you have clearly shown him to be afraid.
Cannon paints a black and white picture of the only way to stop him being tricking him into wanting to stop, being a soul eating demon that tricks him and catches him unawares, or resorting to a brute force bash with the Elements of Harmony. Even this fails to kill him and merely renders him immobile.
As such I wonder exactly what level Miss Sparkle has reached as to possess power enough to use such an entity as a crash test dummy.
In the show she surpassed Tirek by absorbing three reality controlling Alicorns powers and abilities, yet Tirek seemed to merely convert one's soul into raw energy, rather than claiming the abilities of the individual.
Whereas Discord is shown as able to use the three Goddesses as mops if he so pleased, suggesting that his 'power' was a result of skill rather than strength.
If so, then how has Twilight surpassed the strength of Three Alicorns, the entirety of Equestria and the Spirit of Chaos in such a short time span?
Sorry for the rambling nature of my review, I do adore this narrative and circumstance you have constructed, I merely wanted to voice both my query and my thought process on the subject matter of the combatants in the upcoming confrontation.
5672407 Much chill.
But in all seriousness this is an excellent read.
5673437 in short as to why she is suddenly so good she wields the element of magic and as far as I understand is the embodiment of magic so how else is she so strong
This Discord is my fave Discord now. If they would take down Twilight, he would surely end up as a good guy and one of the equestrian rulers of a rebuild Equestria.

Yes, but that doesn't explain exactly what extent her abilities go to? Can she innately counter Discord's reality bending as has been done by naught but the EOH which the show has benchmarked as the most powerful set of entities in existence.
Even if she is using them, she could only really activate one of them, Magic, and whilst arguably the most powerful even this fic has shown that one on its own accomplishes naught without the other five backing it. Which would suggest her title as 'Element Of Magic' has been rendered a moot point in all but word.
Her title as Goddess and assumption of Celestia's and Luna's roles are also moot when compared to Discord, who throws moons and suns around like a child would a high-bounce-ball whilst turning roads into soap and grass into checkerboard.
Discord has only ever been shown to be 'defeated' by the EOH which Twilight admitted would have decimated her had she not been the trigger mechanism for their workings. (way back in the first fic).
So even if Twilight is strong enough to defeat Discord in a straight up battle of strength, its never going to happen unless Discord wants it to, so that leaves tricking him into putting himself in a position where his powers are rendered moot. Twilight has already stated her barely veiled hatred for trickery, coupled with her arrogance, this to is rendered an unviable option for the royal tyrant herself.
I still believe that Discord should transmogrify her brain into a potato; or perhaps an egg given the history of her being called an egghead.

Because in the very essence of her, she is magic itself. This was stated in earlier chapters.
Discord may have power, but it is nonetheless magic. The other Alicorns had power, but it was again, magic.
Twilight is magic. Therefore she has more power than any of the others combined.
Thats what i think at least.

The limit to her power is that there is none.

Practically her only weaknesses are peaches and this guy.

Imagine him running at you at full pelt and you couldn't do anything to stop him, I would be scared too.
5673437 As far as I can tell. The reason Twilight has so much raw power is when she ascended her mortal body was torn from her sole and then was reborn as magic incarnate. She defeated Celestia, Luna and Cadence easily because she likely holds as much magic as there is in existence, also taking them on one by one likely helped. Cadence had control over love, Luna the moon, and Celestia the sun, Twilight, she Controls magic. She likely has a level of control on magic that before now couldn't even be thought of. She may very well be manipulating the fabric of existence to form magic. Much like discord manipulates the fabric of existence as a canvas for chaos. The reason she may be able to instill fear in even discord is because she can match him for power, however she has a sharp mind capable of planning and executing actions on a level far more complex than Discords loopy mind could conceive.
To be honest i'm really not liking how you made Twilight she is way too OP to even be believable. There's also how weak Discord. Also Celestia having tombs that are so powerful that Discord is afraid. Lastly there's the fact Twilight is still able to control the elements. Overall i have a good amount of problems with the story (Especially with Discord being so weak)
I think the story could have gone better if Twilight gained Discord's ire aftrer he saw what happened and then proceeded to stripped her of all powers. Maybe have Discord able to save some of them. So not only does the whole nation know what she did, But also having to deal with the one's who lived. You could also have Discord and Luna be the ruler(DiscordxLuna ship best ship) Either cause Celestia is still dead or cause she is unable too.
There are some parts i like but the story is kind of dampend cause of the reason stated
Whaaaa?
Are we talking about the same Discord?
The embodiment of Chaos itself?
As the name suggests, he is Chaos in all the sense of the term, which means he need not respond to any law whatsoever.
Twilight, however, will forever be held back by the laws of magic. As such, Discord should not have any problem dealing with her.
I though this fits that last line very well
