Card Games and Human Ponies

Human Rainbow Dash is invited to a tournament at the Discard Corporation's HQ, Bedlam's End. How will she do, will people like this story, and does the Company have some kind of ulterior motives? Maybe I'll write more so you can find out!

As a fan of both the Anime and the card game itself, I decided to write this. I also decided that humanized ponies paired with decks that suit their personalities would be a fun bonus. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it!

Prologue

--Author's note--

This story is an alternate universe Yugioh/My Little Pony crossover. The characters are all human and the setting is still Equestria, just with humans and children's card games. This is just the prologue. I hope you enjoy reading this, and tell me if you have any suggestions to improve my writing style and effectiveness.

Draw Phase 0.

There was a knock at the front door. Dash got up from her breakfast to see who it was. She opened the door to reveal a cross-eyed postal worker.

“Hi Dashie!” Dash's eye-lid twitched at the use of the nickname, which went unnoticed by the post mistress, “Not much for you today. Just a few letters. One of them looks pretty important.” She said as she handed over the two or three envelopes.

“Thanks Derpy.” Dash said lamely as she closed the door. She turned and started back to her bowl of store brand cereal, hoping it wasn't already soggy.

If you were to ask Rainbow Dash, she prefers just Dash, she would tell you that her life is rather unremarkable. The rainbow haired 22-year-old mostly spent her days looking for a job or hanging out with Derpy on her days off. Sometimes she would enter small Duel Monsters tournaments for fun. She was a skilled duelist, and many of the newcomers dreaded having to duel her. But she hadn't expected what she saw for a return address on the first letter. It read

Discard Corporation

13, Strife Way , Bedlam's End, EQ

Discard Corp. was the creators of her favorite card game (you know, the one mentioned before). After a moment of shock she tore the envelope open, almost ripping the letter in half. She unfolded the letter and two cards fell out, but she was more interested in the text than the cards at the moment. It read:

Dear, Ms. Rainbow Dash,
It has come to our attention that your dueling skills have become very well known in the Cloudsdale area. Your support of the Duel Monsters franchise has benefited both you and our company. You are formally invited to a tournament to be hosted by us at our company headquarters at Bedlam's End. The tournament will start on the sixth of May, at 10:00 AM sharp. You are welcome to bring one friend, who may then register for the tournament. Enclosed within this letter are two new cards that we feel are especially suited for your deck. We look forward to seeing you at the tournament.

Discard Corp.

Dash picked up the cards that had fallen from the letter. The first was a card called Solidarity. 'This could be handy.' she thought to herself after reading the effect. She then looked at the second card and gasped in surprise. The card was titled Hysteric Party, and she had been looking for a copy for months to no avail. It was the perfect addition to her deck. With this, her monsters could swarm... well, more than they did already.

The tournament was only a week away. She had to see if Derpy could get a few days off to come with her. Dash's deck also needed to be in top form if she wanted to come out victorious. She had no doubt that there would be some kind of prize for first place, there always was. This could be her finest moment as a duelist, she couldn't afford to mess it up!

Chapter 1: Bedlam's Beginning.

Draw Phase, Turn 1

Strife Way was a long and winding cliff-side road. Despite her eternally crossed-eyes, Derpy navigated the road flawlessly. The wall-eyed post mistress never really had problems with her vision. Only one bad thing came out of having her eyes, bullying. Derpy had always been ostracized in school, just because one of her eyes wasn't as focused as the other. Dash had never joined in on the bullying. She didn't see Derpy as a freak or a weirdo. Dash saw Derpy as different, and different was pretty cool in Dash's mind.

The car followed the road as it turned left. The cliff-side slowly seemed to move and Derpy was shocked by what it revealed. Extending from the rock-face, almost perfectly level with the road, was a colossal stone arch. The beauty of this natural wonder was lost on Dash, who had fallen asleep almost an hour ago. Derpy continued to drive. The road turned once more, this time onto the arch, and abruptly stopped at a gate.

A man stepped out of the security booth and walked over to the car as it pulled up to the gate. Derpy rolled down the window and smiled at the man. He snickered to himself and Derpy's smile became a frown. Her eyes were more than likely the source of humor, they usually were.

“Heh, oh... er... I... I'm so sorry miss, that was very rude and insensitive of me!” The guard stuttered his genuine apology. “um, may I see you invitation?”

Derpy reached over and shook Dash awake. “He wants to see your invitation Dash.” She said to the half awake duelist.

“Oh, yeah... just a...” she paused to yawn. “just a moment.” Dash reached into her pocket and handed the somewhat crumpled letter to the guard, “there you go.”

The guard examined the letter briefly and then went and opened the gate. “Welcome to Bedlam's End.” He said as they passed the security booth.

Past the gate was the main building. It rather normal looking office building like structure, but behind it was a fairly large dome like facility. Derpy followed some signs, that stated where the guest parking was, and brought the vehicle to a stop in one of the spaces. Dash and Derpy both got out of the car and stretched their limbs, the drive had taken almost three hours.

“We should probably head inside, it's almost ten.” Derpy said as she glanced at her watch. Punctuality was important to the postal worker. Late mail was out of the question, the same went for arrival at social gatherings and the like. “For some one named Dash, you're pretty slow!” She joked.

The two entered the building, where they were confronted by an unusual man. The skinny man was at least six and a half feet tall, had slicked-back tanish grey hair, a loosely fitting brown suit, and Dash could swear that one of his pupils was smaller than the other.

“Well hello there!” he stretched the words as he spoke, “You must be Rainbow Dash! How very nice to meet you! I am Cedric Discord, creator of Duel Monsters, and founder of the Discard Corporation!” He then seemed to notice Derpy for the first time. His eyes fixed themselves on Derpy's and he leaned in, “oh my, what beautiful eyes you have. I simply love them... Well on to business then!” He pulled his gaze away from the blushing postal worker. “You're both here for the tournament, no doubt. Very well, follow me then.” His voice changed to a more official tone. Dash and Derpy looked at each other, and then followed.

He lead them to a large room with a conference table in the center. “Feel free to sit anywhere. The table, the floor, or you can even stand! Everyone has there own way of doing things. It's like a form of... organized chaos. Hua ha ha ha!” He abruptly stopped laughing, then said, “Take your pick. I'll return shortly.” and walked out of the room.

Both Derpy and Dash were unsure of what to do, they just stood there for a few moments. Dash finally noticed that there were other guests in the room. 'They must be duelists' she thought as she went to go introduce herself. Derpy decided to just go and sit at the table. As she was approaching the group, she noticed two of them arguing about something. She decided to listen in.

“No, no, no! You've got it all wrong! The deck doesn't work like that!” Stated the girl with purple hair. “You're supposed to remove cards to power up Golden Homunculus!”

The slightly older, silvery haired, girl argued, “Trixie thinks that removing cards to power up D. D. Dynamite is more effective! Wiping out Trixie’s opponent’s life points in one move is far more efficient!”

The two continued to argue vigorously. Finally, the purple haired girl let out a yell of frustration and stormed off. The silver haired girl now wore a smug, victorious, smile upon her face. Her argument had been cool and resolute, her voice never increasing in volume, and her face never showing even a hint of anger.

She turned to Rainbow Dash and herself, “Trixie apologizes, she was only demonstrating her knowledge of removal strategies.” She spoke in the third person as though she were her own narrator. Which, of course, she isn't. That happens to be my job.

Dash extended her hand and introduced herself, “Nice to meet you Trixie. I'm-”

“Rainbow Dash, yes, Trixie has heard of you.” She cut in, “Trixie looks forward to testing your skills against her's. Now if you'll excuse Trixie, she wishes to introduce herself to the other guests.” She walked off towards a green and white haired woman.

Just as Dash turned to go sit at the table, the main doors opened, and two regal figures entered. The first was a tall, blonde man, with almost statuesque facial features. As he walked in he gave an arrogant smile towards a group of women, but they were more interested in the figure behind him.

The second person, a female, approached the man and said, “Do not make a fool of thine self, Blueblood. See yon table? Sit there, remain in thine seat until we tell thou to rise. Are we understood?” The man nodded nervously and went to take his seat. The female then turned to the crowd and said, “We are Princess Luna, that is mine cousin Edward Blueblood. We are here to partake in this tournament, and we ask that thee treat us, not as royalty, but as thou would treat thine peers.” with that, she sat down at the table and took out her deck, checking to make sure everything was in order.

Dash was surprised to say the least. The princess of Equestria, playing in a duel monsters tournament? That wasn't something that happened every day. She decided to shrug it off and find some kind of social interaction.

***

Derpy was sitting at the table flipping through here deck. She wondered if she even stood a chance against the seasoned duelists? She knew her deck was strong, but her skills weren't. Derpy stopped when she arrived at her extra deck. Gemini decks weren't known for synchro summoning, but she had figured it out. She looked at her favorite card, Power Tool Dragon. Once she got this out, it was almost impossible to get rid of. A smile formed on her face as she remembered the look on Dash's face the first time she used this against her.

Derpy's thoughts were interrupted by a polite cough. She turned her head and saw a blue haired girl standing next to her. The girl introduced herself, “Hi there, I'm Cassidy Raindrops.” She extended her hand and said, “Nice to meet you.”

The postal worker replied, “I'm Derpy Hooves, nice to meet you too.” and shook the girl's hand.

Raindrops took a seat next to Derpy. Across the table Luna and Blueblood also took their seats. After a few moments everyone started to take seats. Dash sat next to Derpy, Trixie took her's, and was soon followed by a red haired man wielding a laptop, and many other people that haven't been introduced also took their seats. As soon as everyone was seated Discord entered the room.

He was wearing his trademark grin as he said, “Welcome, welcome everyone! I'm so glad that you could all attend!” His joyous voice resonated throughout the room before becoming business like, “Now, I'm sure you're all well aware of why you're here. Before I start the tournament, I would like to go over the rules.” He took out a sheet of paper from his jacket and unfolded it. He also produced a pair of spectacles, put them on, “First rule: The rules are basic duel monsters rules. Second rule: Refer to first rule. Well, now that we have that out of the way, onto the tournament. It will work like this. There are sixteen contestants. Only one duel will take place at any given time. And finally, these will not be matches. There will be no two out of three or anything like it, only one winner and one loser per duel.” He lowered his spectacles and grinned, “Now let's begin, shall we?” Discord crumpled up the paper and tossed it to one side. He then began walking down the hall behind him, “Would you kindly follow me everyone?” They did.

He led them through the hall until they reached a pair of large doors. “Welcome to our state of the art dueling facility!” Discord said as he opened the door.

They were now in the large dome from before. Bleachers lined the facility's perimeter, but the center was empty. The emptiness was in the shape of a large rectangle and had twenty smaller rectangle detailing on the floor. On each of the short sides of the rectangle were stands of some kind. Everyone seemed highly curious about this arena, for that's what it seemed to be, but then Discord spoke once more.

“Now for our first duel! The combatants will be...” he paused and thought for a moment, “ Ah, yes! Miss Rainbow Dash versus Master Edward Blueblood! Now both of you take your positions on either side of the arena.” Dash went left and Blueblood went right.

Blueblood had that same arrogant smile on his face as he said, “A peasant dueling me? The poor fool stands no chance. I have only the rarest and most powerful cards in my deck!”

Dash only said, “Shut up and let's play!”

“Very well. Now place your decks on the proper space of the field. Power on!” Cedric Discord announced.

There was an audible whiring noise as the lights turned on and some kind of rainbow like wave washed over the bottom of the emptiness.

“Now, begin the duel! Blueblood will make the first move!” And so he did.

“But of course! I draw!” He looked at the card, then back at his hand before saying, “I summon my Panther Warrior, in attack position!”

Panther Warrior, Attack: 2000

Both player gasped as the monster came to life before their eyes.

“Hua ha ha ha ha! This is our new hologram dueling arena. It projects the duel in a more realistic fashion!” Explained Discord, a sinister grin forming along his face.

End Phase, Turn 1

Chapter 2: Of Strength and Skill

Author's note:
There are a lot of changes made to attack and defense when using Dash's deck, I would know since it's based off of one of my own. It can get redundant, and I apologize for this. Hope you all enjoy chapter 2!

Draw Phase, Turn 2

It took mere moments for the aura of wonderment to pass. Both Dash and Blueblood snapped their attention back to the duel.

“Oh, where was I?” Blueblood asked to no one in particular. He looked at his hand and said, “ah yes, I’ll play one card face down and end my turn.”

Dash perked up and drew a card. This was potentially embarrassing. Her hand consisted of only one monster, three traps, and two spells. She decided to roll with it. “I’ll set one monster in face down defense position, then I play two cards face down. I end my turn.” It was the best that she could do for the time being. She needed to get a monster next turn.

Blueblood’s smile grew as he said, “What a pitiful excuse for a turn.” He drew his card, “Now it’s my move. I set one card face down and activate the quick play spell Scapegoat, giving me four goat tokens.” Four creatures appeared. Each of them looked more like cotton balls than anything else.

“I’ll enter my battle phase. By sacrificing one of my goats I give my Panther Warrior the ability to attack this turn.” Sure enough, one of the goats turned into a ball of light and was absorbed by the bipedal cat. “Panther Warrior, attack her face down monster.”

Dash’s monster revealed itself to be a hulking green dragon.
The Dragon Dwelling in the Cave, Defense: 2000

The furred warrior attacked the dragon, but the sword glanced off of its scales. Its attack having failed, the cat retreated to its rectangle on Blueblood’s side of the field.

Blueblood’s smile turned into a disappointed frown as he said, “I end my turn.”

Dash drew her card, and her face instantly lit up. “I summon my Harpie Lady 1 in face up attack position. Its effect activates, giving all wind attribute monsters on my side of the field 300 extra attack points.”

Harpie Lady 1, Attack: 1600

The Dragon Dwelling in the Cave, Attack: 1600

“But I’m not done; I play the spell card Elegant Egotist! Since I control a Harpie Lady, I can special summon another from my hand or deck. I choose my other Harpie Lady 1, giving my monsters another 300 point bonus!

2x Harpie Lady 1, Attack: 1900

The Dragon Dwelling in the Cave, Attack: 1900

“And finally, I’ll play the field spell Rising Air Current. This gives all of my wind monsters another 500 attack, but they also lose 400 defense.”

2x Harpie Lady 1, Attack: 2400, Defense: 1000

The Dragon Dwelling in the Cave, Attack: 2400, Defense: 1600

Dash’s face perfectly defined confidence at this point, “Now I’ll change my Dragon into attack position and enter my battle phase. Harpie Lady 1, attack his Panther Warrior!”

“I think not! You have triggered my trap card, Mirror Force! All of your monsters are destroyed. You’re good, I’ll give you that, but my cards are simply stronger.” Blueblood stated with his smug, and ever arrogant, grin dominating his face as Dash’s monsters were obliterated.

Dash wasn’t fazed at all by this turn of events, “I think that you’ll find that skill beats strength… well, most of the time… Anyways, I activate the trap card Hysteric Party! By discarding one card from my hand, I can special summon as many Harpie Lady monsters from my graveyard as possible. So I'll discard my Trap Hole to welcome back my two Harpie Lady 1s!” There was a hawk-like screech as her two monsters emerged from the ground. They flew up in a synchronized helix with one another before settling down on their respective rectangles.

The purple haired girl that had been arguing with Trixie earlier turned to Discord and asked, “It must have taken forever to program all of these interactions between the separate cards!”

“Program? Oh no, the holograms just kind of do what they want. It can be pretty chaotic at times, but I don’t mind.” Discord said without even glancing at the girl.

The girl’s face became the essence of confusion as she said, “Just do what they want? That can’t be right! It’s a program, you must have programed it, otherwise it just doesn’t make any sense!”

The man turned and looked Twilight (It’s pretty obvious that it’s her at this point) in the face, a goofy grin on his face as he said, “Oh, but what fun is there in making sense?” He stared at her for a brief moment before turning back to the action.

“Since Hysteric Party is a trap card, I didn't have to end my battle phase to use it. So my monsters can still attack this turn!” Dash continued, “Harpie Lady 1, attack Panther Warrior!”

The Harpie flew up and dived at the cat, landing talons first on its chest. Unable to fend off the attack, Panther Warrior was destroyed.

Life Points:

Blueblood: 3600

“My warrior may be gone, but I still have three goat tokens! My life points are shielded!” Blueblood shouted, his smirk reduced to a furious grimace.

“Actually, you only have two goat tokens. My other Harpie attacks one of them.” Argued Dash as her monster destroyed the fluff ball.

From the crowd of observers came a cheer, “Yahoo! Go Rainbow Dash!” Derpy jumped as she cheered, causing everyone to look at her. “Uh... Oops, my bad.” She said with a sheepish grin. Everyone turned back to the game.

“Your move Blueblood.” Dash stated.

“I draw!” He yelled as he picked up his next card. He grinned as a plan formed in his head. “First off, I'll play Monster Reborn to bring back my Panther Warrior. Next I summon my Road Synchron in attack position. I tune my Road Synchron, Panther Warrior, and my two remaining goats to synchro summon an eight star monster. I choose my Red Dragon Archfiend!”

The four creatures each transformed into stars. Road Synchron became at first four stars, but those four became two as they combined with the other six. The mass of stars flew skyward, hovered for a moment, and plummeted to the ground. There was a bright flash of light as as the monster formed.

"The ruler's heartbeats will now file through here! Take witness to its creation-shaking power! Synchro Summon! My very soul, Red Dragon Archfiend!". He chanted.

The light subsided and revealed a large black and red dragon with three horns on the field where Panther Warrior had been standing moments ago. It let out a loud, echoing roar as it unfolded its wings and assumed an offensive stance.

Red Dragon Archfiend, Attack: 3000, Defense: 2000

“Behold you peasants! Behold my glorious dragon in all its destructive beauty!”

End Phase, Turn 2

*Note: I've been editing in small changes as I think of them. Let me know if you guys think I should keep the chants for Red Dragon and other cards. I'm trying not to use the signer dragons, but this one seemed to fit pretty well.

Chapter 3: Dragon's Descent

Draw Phase, Turn 3

Blueblood knew that the advantage was now his. In one move he had successfully pushed Dash into a corner. Dash's Harpies were only as strong as they are because of effects. Where as his dragon was naturally powerful, and he was about to prove it.

“Red Dragon Archfiend, attack her Harpie Lady 1! Scorching Crimson Flare!” He yelled.

A large ball of fire formed above the dragons hand. It roared as it unleashed its attack upon the Harpie, which promptly burst into flame before being destroyed.

Life Points:

Dash: 3400

“Not so cocky now, are you? I end my turn.” Blueblood said.

Dash drew her card, “First off, I play Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw two cards. I have to thank you for destroying my Harpie. I'll show you why. I play the spell card Soul Release. With this I can remove up to five cards in my graveyard from play. I'll remove my Dragon Dwelling in the Cave. Now I play Solidarity. Since I only have one type of monster in my graveyard, all monsters of that type on my side of the field gain 800 attack points.”
Harpie Lady 1, Attack: 2900

“Now I'll enter my battle phase. Harpie lady 1, attack Red Dragon Archfiend!”

“Are you daft girl? My dragon still has 100 more attack power than your Harpie. What point is there in attacking?” Blueblood asked.

“That's why I activate my face down card, Reinforcements. My monster now gains an extra 500 attack points until the end of my turn.” Dash explained as a group of soldiers appeared behind her monster. The Harpie pointed one of its talon clad hands at the Dragon. The soldiers around her charged and attacked Blueblood's monster. They were then followed by the Harpie, who dealt the final blow.

Life Points:

Blueblood: 3200

“I'll end my turn. Your move Edward.” Dash stated calmly.

He drew his next card in an excessive fashion before saying, “I am a prince! You will address me as such! I play one card face down, and set one monster in face down defense position.” He looked through his hand multiple times. “I... I end my turn...”

“My move. I play Elegant Egotist to summon my Harpie Lady Sisters from my deck.” Just as she finished saying it, three Harpies appeared. The only thing making each different from the next was their hair.

Harpie Lady Sisters, Attack: 3050

“My Harpie Lady 1 will attack your face down monster.”

The Harpie reached the card and destroyed it just as it appeared. The monster had been a small pink puff ball.

“Pfft Bwahahaha! You have a Watapon in your deck? Why, just why?” Dash was doubled over in laughter.

“It... I... Only real men use Watapon!” Bluebood stuttered.

“Okay, if you say so.” She stiffled another laugh before saying, “ My Harpie Lady Sisters attack your life points directly.”

Life Points:

Blueblood: 150

“I end my turn.” Dash said.

“Urgh! I can't lose to this... this peasant! I draw a card!” His frown became a bigger frown as he looked at his new card, but then it transformed into his famous arrogant smile. “I play one card face down. I end my turn.” He stated, his emotions now under control.

“My move? No monsters? Well I guess I'll draw-” She was interrupted.

Blueblood flipped one of his face down cards. “ I activate the trap card Descending Lost Star. By its effect I can revive my Red Dragon Archfiend in defense position. It However loses its effect, its defense points go down to nil, and its stars go down by one.”

“What's the point? I'll just destroy it and go for your life points.” Dash queried.

“This is the point.” He flipped his remaining face down, “I now play Assault Mode Activate. By offering up my Red Dragon, I can special summon a monster of the same name that also has Assault Mode in its name from my deck. Remember how I said my Red Dragon was my strongest monster? Technically, I didn't lie. It is my best monster, just not in that form. I summon my Red Dragon Archfiend Assault Mode! What now peasant?”

Red Dragon Archfiend Assault Mode, Attack: 3500

Dash seemed unimpressed. “Is that all?” She asked.

“Um... yes. Yes it is.” Blueblood replied.

“In that case, I tribute my two monsters to summon Simorgh, Bird of Divinity! While he's on the field we both take 1000 life point
damage during each end phase. This damage is decreased by 500 for each spell or trap card we control. I control two, you have none. I end my turn.”

Life Points:

Blueblood: 0

“N- No! This is impossible! I only have the best and rarest cards! I can't lose to you! I... I... ah...” Blueblood promptly fainted, and
managed to smack his head against the dueling platform on his way to the floor.

Princess Luna stood in the crowd, her hand collided with her forehead as she saw the scene unfolding before her. Blueblood had always had a flare for the dramatic, but this was ridiculous.

Cedric Discord turned to the crowd and said, “Let's hear a round of applause for our first victor! Come on every one! I know you can clap, you all have hands!”

Most of the crowd began clapping, some hoping they wouldn't have to duel Dash. Dash grabbed her deck and slid it into a small case. Derpy ran down and met Dash with a hug.

“That was amazing Dash! I knew that you'd win, but I didn't think it would be that easy.” Derpy said, a huge grin on her face.

Dash rubbed her index finger under her nose in a truly anime like fashion as she said, “Yeah, I'm pretty awesome sometimes. Wait, what am I saying? I'm awesome all the time!”

Discord interrupted them, “Alright everyone! This is an excellent time for another duel, so I'm going to say that there will be a twenty minute break.” His goofy grin reappeared.

Almost everyone laughed at this as Discord walked through the exit. Luna stayed behind to wake up her nephew. Dash and Derpy followed the rest of the crowd as they followed Discord. When they reached the main room it resembled how it was when they had first seen it. Derpy wandered off when she saw a buffet table had been set up. Dash was on her way to the center table when a women with long greyish black hair approached her. She was dressed in a silky white shirt with sleeves that ended just below her elbows, a formal black vest over it, and black tuxedo style pants. She also wore a treble cleft pendant around her neck

“That was quite an impressive duel miss Dash.” The women said. “My name is Octavia Philharmonica, it's a pleasure to meet you.” She extended her hand and Dash shook it.

“Hey, you're that famous cellist, right?” Dash realized, “I love the mash-ups you do with DJ Pon-3! Just something about cellos and dub-step makes them great together.” She stopped and thought for a moment, “I didn't know that you played duel monsters.”

Octavia smiled and said, “Well I started playing only recently. Vinyl brought a couple of deck with her to one of our recording sessions, and we played a few games. I'm not as good as her but I'm not bad. I think that you're probably better than Vinyl, considering the way you handled Blueblood.” She stated.

“That, oh that was nothing special. He just had some really good cards. I don't think he had any real experience at the game.” Dash explained.

Octavia seemed unconvinced, “Regardless, that Red Dragon of his was a powerful foe. You destroyed it with a four star monster and didn't even take a moment to think it over. You knew what you were doing instinctively. It was like some one was writing the whole duel, and had planned the whole thing before hand.” Both women turned their heads and stared into the distance.

After a few moments had passed, Dash asked, “What are we looking at?”

“I, uh... I don't actually know...” Octavia replied.

Dash turned back to Octavia and said, “Well I should go check on my friend, make sure she doesn't over do herself.”

“Alright, it was a pleasure meeting you miss Dash.” Octavia said as Dash turned to find Derpy, who was still at the buffet table.

***

Derpy was enjoying one of the various kinds of muffins on the table. 'Pumpkin' she thought to herself, 'is definitely the king of all muffins.' Her thoughts were interrupted by a very exited looking green haired girl, in a .

“Oh, hey, hi! I'm Lyra, what's your name?” The girl asked.

The startled parcel mistress replied, “Er, hi. My name is Derpy. Nice to meet you Lyra.”

Lyra grabbed Derpy's free hand and shook it vigorously while saying, “Really nice to meet you too Derpy! I see you like muffins. My roommate makes really good muffins. Have you met her? Her name is Bon Bo-”

She was interrupted by a women with blue and pink hair. “Lyra! Calm down! I know you like meeting new people, but that doesn't mean that you need to talk the poor girl's ear off.”

Lyra deflated slightly, released her grip on Derpy's hand, and said, “Whoops... sorry about that Derpy. Bon Bon is right. I get pretty carried away sometimes... This is Bon Bon by the way.” She pointed at the women with dual colored hair.

“Hi Bon Bon, I'm Derpy. Nice to meet you.” Derpy extended her hand.

Bon Bon Shook Derpy's hand and said. “Nice to meet you too. Sorry, but we can't stay and chat. I need to talk to Lyra about a few things.” She tapped Lyra's shoulder and pointed towards an empty corner of the room. Lyra waved her good bye to Derpy and followed Bon Bon.

A few moments later Dash walked over to the table. She leaned against the table next to Derpy and looked around.

“Pretty interesting group of duelists. We've got royalty, musicians, magicians, and who knows what else?” Dash turned to Derpy, “I wonder who's gonna duel next. I've gotta wait until the next round for my next game... I hate waiting.” She knitted her brow.

Derpy looked at her watch, “It's about 10:50 right now. The break should be over soon.” She said.

“I hope so. I wanna see some action.” Dash said as Discord re-entered the room.

Discord walked to the center of the room, shook his head, and walked to the left a few steps. He then addressed the small crowd of duelists. “Hello everybody! Who wants to play the next card game?” He paused, and some of the duelists raised their hands.

“I would pick two of you, but I have this handy roster here with everyone on it.” There were a few disappointed faces in the crowd. He continued, “The next duel is miss Lyra Heartstrings...” He paused as though he had expected Lyra's jubilant outburst.

“Aw yeah! Card game time!” She yelled from the back of the crowd.

Discord continued again, “Heh-hem. Yes miss Lyra Heartstrings versus Dj Pon-3, also known as miss Vinyl Scratch.”

In the crowd, a girl with electric blue hair and sunglasses took off the large headphones she had been wearing. Loud dubstep music, that had previously been inaudible, poured from the head mounted speakers.

“You said my name right? Never been very good at reading lips.” Vinyl Scratch said.

Discord nodded, Vinyl smiled. Everyone then walked down the hallway back to the dome.

“One quick thing before we start. There are, in fact, bleachers. You don't have to stand and watch the duel, you can sit if you wish.” Discord added.

Lyra and Vinyl walked to their opposite sides of the arena. The holographic grid activated and both players yelled, “Duel!”

- -Author's note: I have had this stuck at, "Oh, come on!" For more than a month now. I decided to just and add a few lines and call it a chapter. I'm also working on another story, but I can't post it on Fimfiction yet due to a current lack of ponies. I'm not done with this story though.- -

Draw Phase, Turn 4

Life Points:

Vinyl Scratch: 4000

Lyra: 4000

Vinyl went first. “Alright! Let's make this happen!” She tapped something in her pocket and music started play from her headphones. She then drew a card. “I'm gonna set two cards face down and summon my Morphtronic Boomboxen in attack position.”

A small stereo appeared on the field. A moment later it transformed into a small robot.

Morphtronic Boomboxen, Level: 4, Attack: 1200

Vinyl ended her turn, and Lyra drew a card to begin her's.

Lyra looked at her hand, a smile never leaving her face. “I'll play the field card The Sanctuary in the Sky.”

A large Greek styled temple appeared above the field. It radiated a faint aura of light as the ceiling of the dome faded away behind a holographic sky. The entire room was transformed into a stadium floating miles above a holographic earth.

“Oh my. Trixie was not expecting something this sophisticated.” Trixie stated as everyone looked around, dumbfounded looks on their faces.

Lyra stood still for a moment, as if her mind was trying to process the fact that she was now in a floating coliseum instead of a large dome. It even had some kind of breeze for environmental effect. She snapped back into focus and continued her turn.

“Uh, okay. Now I'll discard my Hecatrice from my hand to get Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen from my deck and add it to my hand, then I think I'll play it. With Valhalla if I control no monsters, I can special summon one Fairy type monster from my hand. Since I don't have any monsters, I'll special summon my Shining Angel. Next I play Cost Down, making the star count of all monsters in my hand decrease by two. I release my Shining Angel to tribute summon my Angel 07.”

A column of light appeared as a large, shining being descended to the field. It looked more machine than angel, but it shined with the heavenly brilliance of a celestial being.

Angel 07, Level: 7, Attack: 2500

“Since it was tribute summoned, Angel 07 prevents the activation of all monster effects. Now I enter my battle phase. Angel 07, destroy her Boomboxen!” Lyra shouted and pointed dramatically.

The Angel barely moved. Its attack consisted of a beam of light firing from the lens on its forehead. The robot never stood a chance.

Vinyl reacted, “I activate Defense Draw! I negate the damage from that battle and draw one card.” She drew one card.

“Oh well.” Lyra said to her self, “ I'll just have to hit her harder next turn. I set one card face down and end my turn.”

“My move.” Vinyl drew a card, “I'll start by playing Morphtronic Accelerator. I return one Morphtronic monster in my hand to the deck, I'll choose my Celfon. Now I can destroy one card one the field, your Angel 07 to be exact.”

A small, futuristic engine appeared. It revved up and flew at the Angel and collided with its torso, exploding on impact. When the smoke cleared neither of them remained.

“Now I get to draw one card.” Vinyl smiled, Lyra frowned. “Now I summon my Morphtronic Radion, in attack position. Radion's effect gives my Morphtronic monsters 800 extra attack power.”

Morphtronic Radion, Level: 4, Attack: 1800

Vinyl smiled as her head bobbed to the beat of her music. “Since you just so happen to be wide open, I'll attack you directly with Radion.”

Life Points:

Lyra: 2200

“I end my turn by setting one face down. Your move kid.”

Lyra drew her card. She examined the new card to make sure she knew what it did. “I summon The Agent of Mystery – Earth, in attack position. With her effect I add Master Hyperion from my deck to my hand.” She started grinning again. “I remove my Agent of Mystery from play to special summon Master Hyperion!”

There was a flash of light in the sky. A large mass of fire came hurtling down to the field, but stopped just before it made impact. A man stood within the inferno, wearing an ancient, yet elegant looking robe. An equally elegant mask hid his face from view. Master Hyperion, shrouded in his cloak of flames, held his hand to the sky. The holographic sun became eclipsed, leaving only the light from the Sanctuary and Hyperion's own flames.

Master Hyperion, Level: 8, Attack: 2700

“I'll activate Hyperion's effect. By removing one Light Fairy type monster in my graveyard from play, I can destroy one card on the field. Since Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field, I can use his effect twice per turn. I remove my Shining Angel from play to destroy your Radion. Then I'll remove my Angel 07 to destroy one of your face down cards.”

Fire engulfed Radion and the face down, destroying them almost instantly. Now it was Vinyl's turn to frown.

“Now I can hit you head on! Master Hyperion, attack her-”

Vinyl interjected, “Guess who has another face down.” She smiled mockingly. “I activate the trap card Morphtronic Scramble! I negate your attack and special summon one Morphtronic monster from my hand. I special summon my Morphtronic Boarden, in defense position.”

Morphtronic Boarden, Level: 3, Defense: 1800

“Oh, come on!” Lyra yelled.

Vinyl continued to smile. “Are you done?” She asked.

Lyra looked down at her hand, but realized that she couldn't do anything but end her turn. “Yeah... I'm done. Your turn” She bowed her head as Vinyl drew a card.
