Have you ever heard the tale of the Four Heroes?

Have you ever heard the tale of the Four Heroes?
Everyone thinks they know the ending. Mario, Peach, and Bowser destroyed the Chaos Heart, and defeated the menace Dimentio.
But was that really the end? Of course not. We wouldn't have much of a story, otherwise.
(The Human tag was put there because Dimentio is kind of human. Maybe.)
(Dimentio is from the game Super Paper Mario. Spoilers for the ending of that game.)

Chapter 1- The Underwhere, and Other Places That Suck

As Dimentio was exploding, he had time for one last word.

“Ciao!”

And as Dimentio fell into the void of unconsciousness, he felt satisfied that the power he had left behind would at least continue his work for him. Worlds would be destroyed and rebuilt, even without him guiding it. It was for the best, no matter what the mustache man's Pixl, the arm-flailer, and the ravishing princess might say.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

The light that was consciousness slowly funneled into the darkness currently consuming Dimentio. “Urrgh… Ah ha ha! Yes! Like a phoenix that died while having its eggs attacked, I, Dimentio, have come back to life to protect my work!”
But something was wrong. A film covered Dimentio’s vision, making everything seem gray. Skeletal white arms waved in the nonexistent breeze, and he was in a line full of Shades. Realization suddenly dawned on Dimentio.

He was in the Underwhere.

“No... NO!” His outburst merely attracted some glares and mutters from the Shades around him, and a D-Man came over to tell him to be quiet and await judgement.

Suddenly, an idea struck him! He had power over dimensions. Duh. Dimentio had pulled a Bowser on that one…

Dimentio closed his eyes, and concentrated on the wonderful home awaiting him inside Dimension D, where he was 256 times more powerful, and could work on not being a Shade. Then, he snapped his fingers.

Nothing happened.

Dimentio cursed to himself. His dimension powers didn't work, he was a shade, he was dead, and all worlds were not destroyed, which was evident from the Underwhere existing. What could possibly go wro-
No. Not that question. It was jinxed. He knew it, having done it himself, to spite down-on-their luck people. But if that question was jinxed to bring about something that was worse, maybe its opposite could do something about his situation…

“What could possibly go right?”

As soon as Dimentio had finished voicing the question, a light caught his eye. It was spilling from an opened, unguarded door. He knew that question would come through for him!

Grinning as always, he snuck off toward the door, and made it inside. In the room were 26 more doors, all exactly the same, except that they were all marked with a different letter of the alphabet, in order. Dimentio appraised the doors.

A- “Too brown…”

B- “Too tall…”

C- “Too C-ish…”

Finally, he came to D. “Perfect!” he exclaimed, and opened the door. A bright light shone, restoring his normal appearance. “D always comes through for me… Hey, that rhymed! Now, to go through it..”

Just then, the door exploded.

Dimentio sighed, and turned around. Behind him were the D-Men, servants of Queen Jaydes who no doubt would drag him back into the line, who had fired the fireballs. He still wasn't sure if he had gotten his dimensional powers back along with his appearance, so fighting them was out of the question. That left…

He quickly turned around and jumped inside the closest door to him- the door marked “E.”

“Ciao!”

“NO! Wait! Stop!”

But it was too late. He had already gone. The D-Men didn’t dare to go inside the door. Not even Queen Jaydes knew what was inside those doors… None ever came back from them. At least Dimentio was finally gone.

Rainbow Dash was bored. She didn't really have anything to do that day, since the day was supposed to be clear, and she had done the clearing in ten seconds. She decided to go practice the Sonic Rainboom somewhere isolated, so that nobody could see her if she failed. An idea presented itself from the recesses of her mind. Why not the fields outside of town? Those were usually isolated, since they were so close to the Everfree, but Rainbow didn't have to worry about monsters.

Two failed Rainbooms and three successes later, Rainbow decided to take a break. She flew down to the ground, and sat on her haunches. As she looked up at the sky tiredly, a pure black rectangle, like a void in space, opened, and spat out spat out a purple, yellow, and black... thing... onto the ground. All tiredness forgotten, she flew up to it, and tentatively poked it with a cyan hoof. It twitched, and she backed away, startled. "I'd better tell Twi about this right now!" she thought, and flew as fast as she could back to Ponyville. She had to get to Books and Branches before it woke up and started to attack the town!

Dimentio awoke tied to a chair in what looked to him like a dungeon. A blue blur flew around him in a tornado, yelling "Talk, monster!" He struggled to follow it, and only succeeded in making himself dizzy. "What am I supposed to be talking about, cyan quadruped?" he asked. It stopped in front of him, with a fierce glare on its apparently equine face. "What are you? How did you get here? What was that thing you came out of?"

Another equine, purple this time, with a horn on its hairy forehead instead of wings, came out of the room adjacent to the one he was in. "Rainbow Dash! Stop terrorizing it!" it yelled. Its horn glowed purple, and the blue one was enveloped in a purple aura and stopped moving. It kept glaring viciously at him. Ms. Purple Magic trotted up to him. "Sorry about my friend. Now- Hello. My name is Twilight Sparkle. Who and what are you?"

Dimentio grinned. "I am master of dimensions... Pleaser of crowds... I... am... Dimentio! And what are you, purple horse?"

Twilight frowned. "My name is Twilight Sparkle. And I am a pony. But you didn't really answer my question. What are you?"

Dimentio ignored her, instead choosing to focus on the blue horse. She was still scowling, and was apparently doing her best to get out of the spell. "You are a disciple of magic as well, I see... Tell me, do you know anything of dimensional spells?"

Twilight frowned and responded, "No. I don't even think that branch of magic exists."

Dimentio was offended at this. How dare they not have even heard of dimensional magic? He had invented it! "It is the cake of the delicious multicourse feast that is magic!"

Dimentio grinned, despite his annoyance. "But since you have not had the cake of this great feast, allow me to feed it to you!"

Twilight blinked in confusion. "What?"

But it was at that moment reality seemed to flip around her, Rainbow, and Dimentio. For a brief moment, she caught a glimpse of a void, and then reality seemed to turn green and pixelated. "Ah ha ha... I forgot to mention. The cake is cyanide flavor! Welcome to Dimension D, horn-head and cyan quadruped. Now, prepare for your games to be ended!"

Chapter 2- Into Dimension D, and What Twilight Found There

"Prepare for your games to be ended!"

Twilight was confused, but she started to charge her horn in case the thing that called itself "Dimentio" was going to attack them. "What do you mean, you're going to end our games?"

Dimentio looked momentarily confused. "You don't know what it is? Ah ha ha! Well, then, you're just going to find out. Prepare for the pain of 1,000 dinners with your in-laws!"

Words appeared as Dimentio rose up into the air-

Insane Jester

Dimentio

Dimentio laughed briefly, and a yellow-and-purple blob of energy materialized on his finger. He lazily tossed it at Twilight, and teleported to the other end of the room they were in. Still not fully understanding what was going on, but knowing this creature was trying to attack her, Twilight threw up a shield spell, and the blob bounced right off. "Rainbow! I think he's attacking us!"

Rainbow nodded in acknowledgement, and flew at Dimentio in a blue blur. Dimentio simply laughed and teleported behind her. She reversed course, but he did it again. "Hold- STILL!" she screamed in frustration.

"Nope!" he cried, appearing behind her again, but this time with a blob of energy in hand. He threw it at Rainbow, and it connected. A black scorch mark appeared on Rainbow Dash's head, showing the pink skin through the fur, and she fell to the ground, twitching.

"RAINBOW!" Twilight cried, and ran to her side. She quickly checked her pulse with a hoof, and her heart was still beating, though it was irregular. Ba-Thump, .... Ba-Thump Ba-Thump Ba-Thump... Ba-Thump... Ba-Thump... Ba-...

"NO!"

And Twilight snapped.

Her mane and tail caught fire, her coat turned yellow and her eyes turned red.

"I'LL KILL YOU!" she screamed, rising up into the air on top of an inferno. She started blazing toward Dimentio, who was floating, shocked at this transformation. Fire-Twilight shot fire from her horn like a flamethrower, getting more dangerous the closer she got to Dimentio. He teleported to Rainbow Dash's side before Twilight could reach him, and let out a mocking chuckle. "What's the matter? Is your cyan friend dead? Aw, too bad. I would have liked to play a little more with her."

In response Twilight growled, and shot a fiery beam of magic from her horn at Dimentio. He was too busy looking at Rainbow Dash in mock sympathy to notice it coming straight at his head, the only vulnerable part of his body. "AGH!" he cried in pain, as the beam connected with the back of his head. His face stopped grinning for a moment, and a damage bubble reading "20" appeared next to him. He teleported away, and came back into existence with three copies of himself. "Can you tell which one of these handsome faces is the real Dimentio?" they chorused, grinning. The Dimentios all created their own blobs of magic, and tossed them at Twilight, still raging. She created a shield spell that looked like it was engulfed in flames, and the magic bounced off. The Dimentios looked disappointed. As they did so, Twilight noticed something. One of the Dimentios was doing things a tiny bit ahead of the other three. Only a fraction of a second ahead, but it was enough. Twilight targeted the true Dimentio, and fired her beam of fiery magic.

It connected.

Another "20" damage bubble appeared over Dimentio's head, and he fell to the ground, gasping. The fire faded around Twilight, although she was still furious. "GAH! Why aren't you dead?! Even Nightmare Moon or Discord couldn't take that kind of punishment!"

Dimentio's nonexistent ears perked up. "Nightmare Moon? Discord? Who are they?"

Twilight seethed. "They were the greatest evils in Equestria! Now die, dang it!" she screamed, firing a blast of magic at him. He teleported to the side, and it missed.

"Nightmare Moon and Discord... how interesting. Perhaps I could add their power to my own..." he mused, teleporting Twilight, Rainbow's body, and himself out of Dimention D. Of course, he was wise enough to teleport himself to somewhere else than Twilight, whose destination was the library.

To be continued...

Twilight groaned. Everything was black, and she had no idea where she was. She cracked open an eye, and found she was in the library, where she had been before...

It all came rushing back to her. The teleportation, the fight, and... Rainbow Dash... That monster that called itself "Dimentio" had killed Rainbow...

Twilight started crying. Why? Why had Dimentio attacked them and killed Rainbow? Why was this happening? As she was crying, a tear fell onto Rainbow Dash's body, and started to glow, create artistic patterns, and basically do magicky things in typical Disney or anime fashion. Rainbow moaned, and her eyes fluttered open. "Twi...light..."

Twilight froze, and looked down at Rainbow Dash's body. "Rainbow? RAINBOW!" Twilight threw herself upon Rainbow Dash with gusto, hugging her tightly.

"Hey, Twi, get offa me! It's good to see you too, but there's personal space!" Rainbow managed to croak out from under the tight hug.

"Sorry..." Twilight muttered, letting go. "But how are you alive? That magic looked fatal..."

Rainbow squinted her eyes, thinking. "There was a... line? Of things that looked a bit like Dimentio, but all black and grey... But then a demon in a suit saw me and told me that I didn't belong there. He grabbed me with a... skeleton thing... on the head, and then I woke up here."

Twilight sat up, thinking. Dimentio's magic could have sent her to the Underworld of his dimention... That's fascinating. Based on the thing delivering the death's afterlife, the dead one goes to that afterlife? Strange, but intriguing.

Rainbow stood up on her hooves. "We should tell our friends about Dimentio! If they see him, they'll know to be careful, and tell us! Then maybe we can use the Elements of Harmony on him!"

Twilight grinned. "Good thinking, Rainbow! Let's go!"

The Elements of Magic and Loyalty ran up the stairs, and out of the library. But as they scrambled to get the information about Dimentio out, trouble was brewing in the Everfree Forest...

The Everfree Forest, Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters...

In the tallest tower of the Castle, where Nightmare Moon was purged from Princess Luna, and the Elements of Harmony were found, reality seemed to flip in a rectangle, bringing a figure out from the other side. This figure was, of course, Dimentio. "Hmmm..." he mused. "My teleportation took me to the highest level of dark energy near those stupid ponies, so I can give them a real show, but where is all the dark energy?"

The dark energy seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at once. This was the weakened power of Nightmare Moon, its sentience gone and its power dissipated into the stones of the tower.

Dimentio snapped his fingers, and a detector that looked suspiciously like a Nintendo DS flipped into existence. "Had to loan this from Fawful... Well, he doesn't need it anymore, so I don't have to return it."

The detector's satellite dish spun everywhere, detecting dark energy all around it, but it decided on a certain spot near the raised podium at the far end, away from the stairs. This was the spot where Nightmare Moon had been standing when she had been purged.

Dimentio floated over to the spot, and cast a spell to determine what kind of dark energy it was. The results came back- the energy wasn't chaos energy, but simply magic corrupted by jealousy and hate, which made it useless to absorb into himself to boost his power, since it would not do much and cloud his judgement.

Just then, Dimentio's mask started to glow. It flew off his head, and hovered over the spot he had just been analyzing. Its light turned black, and in an explosion of pure darkness, the mask duplicated itself, the original floating back to Dimentio, and the duplicate laying on the ground. Quickly, Dimentio cast a magic detection spell on both masks, since they might have gained magical properties due to exposure to the dark magic. His mask had only its usual expression enchantment, but the duplicate had properties similar to that of the Floro Sprouts he had once used to gain control over the bulky, stupid O'Chunks and the green one with the shag upon his lip. Dimentio smiled. This had possibilities...

Sweet Apple Acres...

Twilight and Rainbow Dash came galloping through the gate of Sweet Apple Acres. "Applejack!" they cried, looking for their friend. Applejack came out from a row of trees, having been bucking apples.

"Hey Twi, hey Rainbow, what brings ya both here today? Yah seem awful tired..."

"Applejack, there's a monster around! It says its name is Dimentio, and it attacked Rainbow and I! It's awful, and we have to stop it!"

Applejack pulled her hat down lower on her head. "Well then, let's go stop it. Ah'm not gonna just stand here while a monster is goin' round town, attackin' ponies! It ain't right."

Twilight smiled. "Great! Let's go get Fluttershy, Rarity, and Pinkie! I'll ask Spike to send a letter to the princess when we get back."

As they all turned to leave, a familiar voice rang out. "And so I appear, like a sudden firework at a festival celebrating the greatness of Dimentio..."

Twilight growled. "YOU..."

Dimentio grinned. "Ah, yes, Ms. Fiery Temper. It is, in fact, me. Are you surprised?"

Rainbow leered. "I oughta teach you a lesson! Come on, put 'em up!"

Dimentio laughed. "Ah ha ha... The one you should be giving the lesson to is yourself! The lesson of intelligence, for you have less in your tiny little brain than a chipmunk!"

Applejack scowled. "Why, you..."

Dimentio continued. "Or perhaps you should be giving a lesson to my friend here, hmm?"

The three friends looked confused. "What friend? You don't have any friends, obviously!" Twilight yelled.

Dimentio's grin was as wide as the torso of Queen Bean (from Superstar Saga, look it up). "Why, this friend, of course!" Reality spun in a rectangle, bringing a manticore into existence next to him. But something was wrong. The manticore had a mask on that looked exactly like Dimentio's.

"Like my little experiment? I was wondering if this would work, and it did! So now my little experiment will experiment on you! The experiment of... dissection! Sorry, but I can't hang around to watch. I have more masks to make. Ah ha ha... Ciao!"

A rectangle appeared, swallowing Dimentio. The manticore started growling at the trio. "Uhh... nice kitty?" Rainbow gulped, recalling her earlier experience with manticores. The manticore simply roared from under the mask, and took a swipe at her with its claws.

"Hey, nomanticore touches my friends!" Applejack cried, batting its paw away. It growled at her, and the three friends got into a fighting stance, ready to fight the manticore...
