Spartan-Guy 88 Presents
TWO OBLIVIOUS UNICORNS

Chapter One

“Twilight, I simply cannot thank you enough for taking the time to meet me here.” Rarity spoke just before taking a sip from a glass of iced tea.

Twilight Sparkle replied after taking a sip from her own drink, “Of course, Rarity. You know I always try to find time for you and the other girls.”

The two unicorns both sat at a table outside the local café in Ponyville as the sun raised only hours ago by Princess Celestia shone down on the town.

In what started off as just another average Tuesday at the Golden Oaks Library for Twilight Sparkle, with the lavender unicorn reviewing several tomes written by Clover the Clever, when the white-coated dress maker arrived and asked Twilight for a mid-morning drink between just the two of them. After leaving Spike in charge of the library until she returned, Twilight obliged Rarity’s request.

After a couple moments of peaceful silence between the two friends, Rarity spoke.

“There is a certain reason as to why I’ve invited you to spend some time with me actually; not that for the simple company isn’t enough mind you. Nonetheless, it’s something that has been distracting me since yesterday; and I’ve been wondering if you could help me with this little dilemma.”

Twilight gave her friend a sincere smile. “Of course Rarity. I’d be more than happy to help you deal with whatever it is that’s bothering you.”

Rarity hesitated before giving a response; “Why thank you Twilight.”

It was then however that Twilight noticed that Rarity also had a slightly saddened look on her face. “Rarity, is something wrong? Is whatever’s going on getting to you that much?”

Rarity for her part looked up in slight surprise, “Oh no, it’s not my current issue darling. It’s…” She paused, looking for the right words; “…it’s just that I’m amazed that you’re still so willing to help out me and the other girls after… well… what happened at the wedding.”

Twilight felt a small pang of pain in her chest. Oh she remembered that day all too well; as did everypony else that was involved.

“Rarity, that was over a year ago, and you know that I’m not blaming you or the others for what happened. All of it could be traced back to the Changeling Queen foal-napping Princess Cadance and taking her form. Everything else was just fallout from that overgrown insect’s actions.”

That did little to soothe the dress-maker’s inner pain; “Yes darling, I’m aware of that. But we still treated you so poorly when you needed us the most; and that was before any of us knew the truth about everything! You’ve done so much for us Twilight, and we just-” Rarity would have continued with her rant; if only she wasn’t cut off by Twilight herself.

“No! You had every right to be mad at me at the moment! I was acting like a spoiled foal, causing such a huge scene in front of all of you; when I could have just as easily and more calmly took Princess Celestia aside and told her what I saw!”

Rarity yelled back at her, “You mean like how you tried to do with us the night before the rehearsal?! Even then we didn’t believe you! You clearly saw what that… that… despicable creature did to your own brother and we were too caught up in excitement for the wedding that we blew you off!”

Finally, after all of the shouting, both unicorns stopped too look around the rest of the café. Almost all of the other customers were looking right at them. Embarrassed that they’ve created a scene, Twilight and Rarity gave quiet apologies to the crowd then lowered their heads in silent shame.

The table and the atmosphere around it had become very uncomfortable as both unicorns sat in silence, unable to think of anything else to say to each other. Finally, Twilight looked up to face her friend, noticing that the white coated unicorn was doing the same to her.

“Rarity,” She said in a much calmer tone, “I know what happened on that day still isn’t something we’re going to just get over…” Twilight then gave her a genuine smile, “…but we wouldn’t be great friends with each other if we weren’t feeling this way about it. Am I right?”

Rarity seemed to take Twilight’s soothing words with a sense of relief.

“Yes… you’re absolutely right dear.”

After another moment of silence between the two, this one being far more upbeat, it was up to Princess Celestia’s student to once again break the ice.

“So, what was this favor you wanted to ask me?”

That question snapped Rarity out of her solemn trance, “Ah, yes. Well, a couple of days ago, I was doing an inventory on the dresses I had made in the past. Eventually I came across the dress I wore at the Grand Galloping Gala. Needless to say, looking at that dress brought back some memories. There were a couple pleasant ones sure, but… it also brought back the moment my heart was shattered the moment I started to socialize with… him.” Rarity finished with a touch of venom on her tongue.

However, she noticed Twilight’s slightly scared look on her face. “Don’t you worry darling. I’ve already shed enough tears as it is on that subject. It’s behind me now.”

Twilight gave a sigh of relief before giving a quirky response, “Good. Because I was a little afraid you were going to ask me to help you hunt Blueblood down.”

“Hardly.” Rarity responded with a slight giggle in her voice, “However, I’m still a pony who dreams of someday having a-” she looked around her, making sure nopony else was listening in, before continuing in a hushed tone; “-Special Somepony.”

Upon noticing the lavender mare’s head tilting in curiosity, the white mare explained, “The reason I’m telling you this darling is that you are without a doubt in my mind the most calculating and intelligent ponies I’ve ever had the pleasure of being friends with.”

Twilight couldn’t resist the blush on her face, “Wow Rarity. I’m quite flattered. Thank you.”

“You’re quite welcome Twilight.” Rarity replied, then continued; “Therefore, if you wouldn’t mind at all…”

Twilight leaned in, “Yes…”

There was a brief pause.

“I could use your assistance in finding the perfect Special Somepony for moi. I’m certain there’s one lucky pony out there crying out for a somepony like myself.” Rarity finished.

Another pause as Twilight Sparkle digested what Rarity had just told her.

Finally Rarity asked, “Twilight? Did you hear what I just said?”

This seemed to snap Twilight out of her trance, “Oh! I’m sorry Rarity. It’s just that… well; romance isn’t exactly my strong suit.” Upon seeing Rarity’s small pout she then added quickly, “But I think I can dig up some books on dating and other romance novels I have over at the library to help. And I can even create graphs and charts to help us narrow the search. Between all of that I’m sure we can-gah!”

Twilight was cut off when Rarity lunged over the table and gave her a big hug.

“Oh thank you! Thank you thank you thank you! What would I ever do without you?!” Rarity near-shouted in joy.

Twilight could only give a small smile while simultaneously struggled to breathe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shortly after their agreement, the two unicorns paid their bill for the drinks and had just arrived at the library.

Twilight asked, “So how’s about we meet here tomorrow morning and we’ll get started on finding you a Special Somepony?”

Rarity beamed at her friend, “That sounds very lovely my dear. I again cannot thank you enough for helping me with this endeavor.”

“Any time Rarity.” Twilight replied as she gave her a small hug.

Rarity then turned around and began walking back to her home.

“Good day to you.” Rarity called over her shoulder.

Twilight gave a small wave then turned around, walked inside the library that acted as her home, and closed the door behind her. Just as she did so, she saw the library’s other occupant, her number one assistant, and in so many ways her younger brother figure walk down the stairs and towards her.

“Hey Twilight;” Spike began, “I just finished organizing the alchemy scrolls, Owlowiscious and Peewee have both been fed, and Lyra Heartstrings stopped by to check out a book on strange creatures and beings from other universes. My guess is more research on ‘humans.’ I really don’t understand that mare sometimes…”

Twilight gave her number one assistant a small hug. “What would I ever do without you Spike?”

After Twilight released the hug Spike then asked her, “So, how did things go with Rarity? Did you finally tell her how you felt about her yet?”

Twilight only gave a simple smile as she responded, “Does this answer your question?” With that, she then used her magic to create a sound-proof bubble around her head…

…where she at that point began to scream her head off from within.

“…I’ll take that as a ‘no.’” Spike said to himself.

Chapter Two

Twilight screamed… and screamed… and screamed…

That was what Spike could see his friend doing from within the sound-proof bubble she had constructed around her head.

Needless to say, the dragon was also quite surprised at the lung capacity the lavender unicorn possessed.

Finally, after thirty seconds of non-stop screaming, the bubble finally dissipated and Twilight began regaining her breath.

After a couple of seconds, Spike finally asked, “Are you done?”

“The screaming… in absolute… frustration… yes.” Twilight responded as she panted.

When she stopped gasping for air, her head then sank as she then fell onto her haunches.

Spike could clearly see that his older sister-figure was upset over whatever had happened at the café. Slowly, he placed a supporting claw on her shoulder and told her. “Twilight, I’m sure that whatever happened there will work out just fine.”

Twilight gave Spike a sad smile. “Spike, I appreciate your support. I really do. But I’m afraid it’s not going to be that simple. I’ve dug myself into quite a pit I’m afraid.”

The unicorn then went into detail over her and Rarity’s conversation at the café. The reminiscing of the Changeling attack on Canterlot a year ago, Rarity’s desire to find a Special Somepony, and the dress maker asking for the student’s assistance in finding said Special Somepony.

“I wanted to at that very moment tell Rarity that ever since after the Grand Galloping Gala that I’ve been developing these feelings about her that to this day still don’t fully understand,” Twilight spoke, “It was the perfect moment too. Just the two of us, together, perfect weather to later thank Rainbow Dash and the Weather Team for, and…”

Twilight paused.

“…And I just don’t know what happened! I completely lost all track of thought when that moment came. I… I don’t…”

Twilight found herself unable to finish her sentence as she again looked down to the floor. Spike saw that and gave her a caring hug.

The dragon calmly spoke to her, “Twilight, just calm down. Sure things may seem bad, but we’ve been through worse right?”

Twilight then realized something very important she didn’t consider before all of this.

“Oh Spike, I’m so sorry!”

Spike was now confused, “Uh… for what?”

“I forgot about… well… what happened between you and Rarity eight months ago!”

Spike was quick to calm Twilight’s nerves; “It’s alright Twilight. I’m over it. Really I am.”

Indeed. Eight months before the two of them were sitting with each other in the present, Spike finally found the nerve to tell his now former crush just how he felt about her since he first laid eyes on her when he and Twilight first came to Ponyville. With support from Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and with Pinkie Pie preparing for a ‘Spike and Rarity Are Now Together Forever’ party, the purple scaled dragon felt (as some of the fillies and colts like to say) pumped. With his friends behind him, he marched right up to Carousal Boutique, knocked on the door, looked at the white unicorn right in the eyes, and finally confessed his crush.

Sadly, after a stunned silence from the fashionista, the response the dragon received was “I’m so sorry Spikey-Wikey, I love you, but not the way you do to me.”

At that moment, the positive energy that was beaming from the dragon as well as the support from his other friends all vanished in an instant. Before Rarity could tell Spike to come inside and explain things to him, he ran right for home with tears in his eyes.

As for the others, needless to say, there were some very mixed reactions. Twilight, the Crusaders, and Pinkie Pie immediately followed Spike home to give him all the support she could offer. Rainbow Dash verbally slammed Rarity for breaking Spike’s heart. Applejack managed to get the speedster to back off, but criticized Rarity for not talking to Spike privately instead of letting him down in front of the others thus sparing him from the embarrassment. Fluttershy however injected that while she agreed with Applejack, she also reminded the farmer and Rainbow Dash that Rarity had offered to talk to Spike to talk things over and that perhaps they should go over to the library to do just that.

They all agreed with the yellow-coated pegasus, and made their way to the library. Upon arriving, they found Pinkie Pie keeping the Cutie Mark Crusaders entertained with her usual antics; Apple Bloom told the others that Twilight was talking to Spike upstairs. Rarity slowly made her way to the bedroom of the library where she saw Twilight calming the distraught dragon down. As soon as Rarity’s presence was known, Twilight reluctantly left the two alone in the bedroom.

It was almost an hour later that the two reemerged from the bedroom. To everypony’s relief, they were both smiling. Slightly sad, but mostly more upbeat than earlier. Spike and Rarity told the others that they’ve spent a lot of their time talking about what happened, Rarity apologizing for letting Spike down in front of the others, Spike telling them that despite what happened they’ve both agreed to always remain friends. Heck, if what happened during the Dragon Migration incident wasn’t enough, they were still all one big happy family after all.

After sharing one big group hug, something Scootaloo initially tried desperately to avoid as to maintain her tomboyish attitude (but soon relented when she remembered that she was in the company of her multi-color haired idol/older sister figure), the group of ten retreated over to Sugar Cube Corner to have Pinkie Pie’s party; appropriately renamed to the ‘Spike and Rarity Will Always Be Friends’ party.

Jump back to the present, with Twilight and Spike sitting down remembering those events from eight months ago.

Twilight asked, “Are you absolutely certain? Because I don’t want to-”

“Twilight Sparkle,” Spike interrupted, “If I’m willing to help you find true happiness with the unicorn that I once had a crush on, then I’m PRETTY SURE that I’m over it.”

Twilight for her part couldn’t resist a small chuckle, “You make a very good point.”

Spike then asked, “So, what are you going to do about Rarity and her request?”

The lavender unicorn pondered that predicament for a moment, then answered; “Seeing that I’ve already said ‘yes’ to helping Rarity, I think I’m going to go through with helping her find her Special Somepony.”

“What?!” Spike exclaimed, “But Twilight, you can’t do that! You want to be with her!”

Twilight in response explained her decision, “I know. But I’m figuring that by playing along, then perhaps Rarity will eventually realize the reason I’m helping her is to help her find that I’m the Special Somepony she’s looking for. Does that make sense to you?”

Spike was silent for a moment, and then shrugged his shoulders as he responded, “Uh… I guess I do.” He then gave her an encouraging smile, “But I’m more than willing to help out.”

Twilight patted Spike’s head. “As I always knew you would my Number One Assistant. Now, would you please get a pot of tea brewing? I’m going to need it very soon.”

“Right away Twilight!” Spike said enthusiastically as he went over to the kitchen.

Twilight meanwhile decided to finish reading the chapter of the tome she was reading before Rarity first arrived, and then get into the planning phases of helping Rarity find a Special Somepony. She trotted over to her desk and opened the tome, titled Constellations and Philosophy by Clover the Clever. It was quite an interesting piece of writing written by Princess Platinum’s assistant. The piece of writing mainly taught how symbolic the star formations in the night sky could be interpreted into how ponies live their lives.

She has such elegance, such grace in her stride.

Where in the wide world of Equestria did that come from? Twilight thought to herself.

Oh I think you know the answer to that one Twilight Sparkle.

I do?

Absolutely. I’m the other half of your conscience. I’m just here to remind you of that one unicorn you can’t seem to take your mind off of.

But I’ve already got a good plan in motion. Everything will work itself out.

Then I’ve got nothing to lose!

What are you-?

Rarity is a pony whose imagination has no limits. Why, if given enough time, she could come up with dress designs for everypony in Ponyville. She truly is the Element of Generosity.

Well, as true as that is, I must insist that you let me finish this tome first, and then I can focus on-

Just how her coat glows when Princess Celestia makes the sun set?

No! I mean- yes her coat is really something when that happens. But I was going to say getting ready to-

Meditate on just how gorgeous those blue eyes of hers are?

Will you please stop interrupting me?! I meant getting ready to scout Ponyville for all the single stallions and mares so they could be potential dates for Rarity.

Oh… so you’re just going to assume that Rarity swings both ways?

Oh. Uh… well, you never know! She said she wanted a SPECIAL SOMEPONY. She never did specify on just what gender she was interested in!

Okay then, have it your way. I’ll just leave you to your work.

Why thank you.

Before I go though, don’t ever forget about that amazing…

Oh no.

…fabulous…

Don’t you DARE finish that sentence!

…mind blowing…

IF YOU FINISH WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO SAY I WILL END YOU!

Jeez, alright already! I was going to say that apple fritter in the fridge that you’ve been saving!

Oh. Sorry about that.

Don’t sweat it.

She’s got a REALLY nice flank too.

“STUPID SEXY RARITY!” Twilight yelled out loud.

Chapter Three

Twilight Sparkle was in absolute paradise. Here she was, not only back in the Crystal Empire, but back in the absolutely amazing library. This time around, there was no immediate crisis to deal with, no risk of losing the Empire again for a thousand years, no test given by her benevolent mentor, and certainly no power hungry and evil unicorn trying to take the citizens of the Crystal Empire as his slaves.

No. It was just Twilight Sparkle, the biggest and best library she has ever seen, and no need to rush at all. There was nothing that could have made this moment better.

“Twilight Sparkle…” She heard a familiar voice call out to her.

Well… almost nothing.

Turning to the source of the voice, Twilight saw one of her closest friends and secret crush, Rarity. She was sitting on a couch made for two in a VERY seductive pose… and she was holding onto a book that read “Reading with Loved Ones”.

Rarity then continued, “Why don’t we read this one… together?” She said while batting her eyes.

Twilight’s heart was pounding as she staggered forward towards the white-coated unicorn. She then opened her mouth to respond to Rarity, eager to say that she would want nothing more than to spend the rest of her days with her in that library…

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

“TWILIGHT A SNAKE IS ON YOU!”

“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!” Twilight screamed as she woke up violently.

The lavender unicorn found herself back in Ponyville’s library, more specifically her and Spike’s bedroom. Said dragon assistant was standing right next to her laughing uncontrollably.

Once Twilight realized what was happening, she growled as she exclaimed, “Spike! Did you REALLY have to wake me up like that?!”

Spike managed to regain his composure as he replied, “Probably not, but I was trying to wake you up for about two minutes, and it’s a lot more fun this way.”

“You’ve been spending way too much time with Rainbow Dash.” Twilight told him as she hopped off and made her bed.

Spike ignored her comment and said, “Still, that scream you gave doesn’t compare to Shining Armor’s from that one time when we were living in Canterlot.”

“You mean the time when you tricked him into playing that stupid game? What was it called again…?”

Spike answered, “First off, it’s called Slender Mare. And secondly, it’s not stupid; it’s probably the scariest game ever created. Who knew a stallion’s scream could be so high?”

Twilight sighed, “He couldn’t sleep for weeks and kept mumbling something about ‘finding those eight pages’.”

Finally deciding to change the subject, Spike then asked Twilight as she was straightening out her pillows; “Rarity should be here in about an hour. Do you have everything all set for your… assignment?”

“Yes I do Spike.” Twilight answered as she started going downstairs, with him following; “I’ve hung up posters all over Ponyville yesterday. They basically say to anypony who is single, stallion or mare, to come over to the library to answer some questions that I will give them. Rarity will be in the room as well, after I cast an invisibility spell on her, and she will monitor the interviews that I will conduct. Once everypony is questioned, Rarity and I will go over all of them and select… probably two of each gender for her to have a date with.”

Spike nodded as she spoke. When she was finished he then asked, “And… what about you?”

It took Twilight about five seconds before she could come up with an answer.

“We’ll… we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.” Twilight said in a quiet tone.

It became perfectly clear to Spike that she didn’t want to think about that particular part of the plan just so soon, so he kept his silence on the matter.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

An hour passed, and Rarity did finally arrive at the library. After Twilight explained the plan to her as she did to Spike, the dress maker voiced her opinion on the matter.

“Darling, I simply cannot thank you enough for all that you and Spikey-Wikey are doing for me. As for gender however…”

Called it.

Shut up!

“Oh, there isn’t a problem with that is there?” Twilight asked worriedly.

Rarity responded, “Oh not at all darling. You see, I generally prefer stallions…”

That’s it; it’s all downhill from here…

“…but I do like to keep my options open. So I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to give mares a chance as well.”

WOO HOO! THERE’S STILL A CHANCE!

Hey keep it down! I’m trying to watch my stories.

…What stories?

Oh you know: just going through some of the memories of our childhood. Right now I’m watching that time we came home with Shining Armor and Cadance from the amusement park earlier than we thought we would and we all caught Mom and Dad in the middle of-

LALALALALALA! I’M NOT LISTENING!!!!!

…Baking cookies.

…Oh… right.

…Did you really think I was going to say ‘banging each other’?

WILL YOU SHUT THE BUCK UP?!?!

“Twilight! Rarity!” Spike called to them. He was looking out the window. “We’ve got ponies lining up outside the door. It looks like there are… five stallions so far and… I wanna say four mares- no wait, five.”

Twilight gave a small gasp as she turned back to Rarity, “Then we’ve got no time to lose! Rarity, I need you to hold perfectly still; I’m going to cast the invisibility spell on you now.”

Rarity nodded as Twilight’s horn began to give off its magenta colored glow. After about a minute of hard concentration, the spell was completed and Rarity was nowhere to be seen.

“Rarity?” Twilight asked to what appeared to be thin air; “Did it work? Please don’t tell me I just accidentally teleported you
to Tartarus…!”

To the lavender unicorn’s relief, she got a response. “Don’t you worry about me Twilight. I’m still right here.”

Turning towards Spike, Twilight then told him, “Spike, please get my notepad, a quill, and some ink.”

“Gotcha Twilight.” Spike responded as he did as Twilight asked.

Twilight then trotted over to the door of the library and opened it to face the crowd of ponies gathered there.

“Attention!” Twilight declared, “I would like to thank every last one of you for taking the time to come over for this survey. Here’s how we’re going to proceed: I will call in one pony at a time, I will then ask you several questions, then I will thank you again for your time, and finally you leave.” The ponies and line acknowledged her statement. “Now would the first pony in line please step forward?”

The first pony to step up was, much to Twilight’s surprise, Big Macintosh-older brother of Applejack and Apple Bloom.

Hello… handsome!

Can it.

Make me.

“Big Macintosh! I’m surprised that you’re here!” Twilight exclaimed.

This isn’t like Big Mac; he’s usually on the timid side when it comes to social interaction.

Well, if we can convince our host to get him together with Fluttershy, that’ll be one less potential threat to our future with Rarity.

No! We’re doing this fair and square.

…Did you seriously just say “Fair and square”? Pfft. Nopony says that anymore.

Twilight then asked the red stallion once they were both inside. “Applejack set you up to this, didn’t she?”

“Eeyup.” Big Macintosh responded with one of his two regular catch-phrases.

Twilight nodded; “I figured as much. She’s always trying to get you more involved with social activities. Now, I’m just going to ask you several questions and all you need to do is answer them for me.”

Spike then returned; quill, ink bottle, and quill in claw, and gave them to Twilight. She then turned to face Big Macintosh while filling out what she already knew on her notepad:

NAME: Macintosh Apple (Commonly referred to as “Big Macintosh” or “Big Mac”)

GENDER: Male

OCCUPATION: Apple Farmer

“Now then Big Macintosh;” Twilight began, “Please tell me, have you ever dated anypony before?”

Big Macintosh gave a sigh and responded, “Well… there was this one time when Apple Bloom an’ her friends tried to get Miss Cheerilee and me together. They meant well, but in the end ah guess we both agreed that it just wasn’t gonna work out.”

Twilight wrote in her notepad as she then asked, “So, you and Miss Cheerilee are simply friends and nothing more?”

“Eeyup.”

Twilight wrote another couple of words on her notepad. “Next topic: Do you have any particular hobbies? Writing, drawing, reading… what do you like to do for self-entertainment?”

Big Macintosh took a couple of moments to ponder her question, and then gave her a response.

“Well… actually, I kinda like t’ think that workin’ is mah favorite hobby.”

Twilight blinked and then asked; “Really? So, working on your farm is relaxing to you?”

“Eeyup.”

“Very well then…” Twilight said as she marked ‘Working on the Farm’ down on her notepad; “…Just one last question: Despite whatever happened between you and Miss Cheerilee, would you ever consider going on a date with another pony in the future?”

Big Macintosh remained silent as he thought it over. After about twenty seconds of indecision however, Twilight then asked rhetorically;

“Is it something you’re not sure of yet?”

“…Eeyup.” Big Macintosh answered.

After Twilight marked his answer down she then got up from her seat and guided the farmer to the door. “I think that will do. Thank you for your time Big Mac.”

Big Macintosh gave her a small smile as he left. “No problem at all Miss Twilight.”

After closing the door, Twilight then called out; “Rarity, are you still there?”

“Yes Twilight, I’m here.” Rarity responded while still invisible.

Twilight asked, “Well, your opinion on Big Macintosh?”

“Well, he is quite honest, polite, and not to mention so…” Twilight heard Rarity catch herself before she could say anything on the red stallion’s physique, while Twilight herself was planning on finding a way to be with Rarity there was no doubt that Big Macintosh was quite a looker; “…handsome. He does seem a bit on the timid side of things however; but I think I can look past it.”

Twilight nodded as she went over to the door to let in the next pony in line.

Well, that was easier than I thought.

You do realize we still have several other ponies to question before Rarity can choose which ones she wants to date?

Oh relax; the session with Big Mac was simple enough. I’m sure the rest will be as easy as a hot knife through-

*CRASH!*

Twilight jumped back as she then saw a huge hole in her door, and a gray-coated, blonde haired, and cross-eyed mare sticking her head through it.

“Oops, my bad!”

…Derpy Hooves?

You were saying?

Chapter Four

“Derpy!” Twilight cried out in surprise upon seeing the grey Pegasus’ grand entrance; “How did THIS happen?!”

Derpy Hooves pulled her head from out of the newly made hole in the door, opened the door itself, and walked inside closing the door behind her.

“Sorry Twilight. I saw Big Macintosh come outside and I figured it was my turn since I’m next in line. But I must have tripped on a rock or something and… well, you just saw what happened.” Derpy explained sheepishly.

Twilight Sparkle sighed and she put a hoof to her face.

Derpy Hooves was Ponyville’s resident mail mare. As how her mishap with the door has shown, the grey Pegasus was often a bit clumsy and had a tendency to break things when those moments do happen. Rainbow Dash could testify to that way back when they were getting ready for Applejack’s going-away ceremony for her at the time upcoming rodeo.
But the student of Princess Celestia also knew that Derpy was still a polite and often funny pony; and more importantly: she was also a good mother to her daughter, Dinky.

But wait a minute…

What now?

“Derpy, I didn’t know you were single.” Twilight said.

Derpy tilted her head to the side curiously, “What makes you say that?”

It’s just that,” Twilight explained, “…well, you and Dinky spend a lot of your time with Doctor Whooves. So I just assumed that…”

Derpy shook her head. “Oh no. The Doctor and I aren’t together. Sure he’s a great friend, and he helps me out at my house. You know: Dishes, laundry, keeping an eye on Dinky…”

“Ah, I see-” Twilight started.

“…and every now and then he takes us through journeys in time and space! All thanks to the TARDIS!”

Twilight could only stare at Derpy, who smiled innocently.

Well, can’t say I saw that coming.

For once I totally agree with you.

Derpy continued, “But no, we’re not TOGETHER together. You get what I’m saying?”

“I suppose I do.” Twilight answered. “Let’s get started shall we?”

Derpy nodded as Twilight retrieved her notepad and wrote down what she already knew about the mail mare as she did with Big Macintosh.

NAME: Derpy Hooves

GENDER: Female

OCCUPATION: Postal Worker

Looking towards the Pegasus mare, Twilight began her questioning.

“First question. Have you ever dated anypony before?”

Derpy thought about it for a moment, and then answered, “Well… back in Cloudsdale High, I went to the Annual Prom with this other stallion. It started off good, but then I accidentally sneezed while we were taking the Prom photo together. It startled him and he wound up tripping over a balloon and landed onto the snack table. The punch bowl got launched into the air and it landed on the Prom Queen.”

Twilight blinked; “Wow. That must have been embarrassing to you.”

“Are you kidding me?!” Derpy responded, “She deserved it! She always picked on me and anypony she felt was lower than her; me because of my eyes. My date and I both left the place laughing. We later went to an ice cream shop and met up with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. I think Fluttershy was too shy to stay there and Rainbow left to be with her. As for me and my date, we both agreed that a romantic relationship just wasn’t going to work out.”

We’ve GOTTA go to wherever she parties.

Shut up. I wanna hear this.

Twilight marked down “Once had a prom date” on the notepad before turning back towards Derpy.

“Okay then. Next question: Do you have any particular hobbies that you enjoy?”

Derpy replied eagerly, “I’ve got several. Whenever I’m not working or traveling through time and space with the Doctor, I like to spend time with my Little Muffin.”

Twilight knew right away that she wasn’t talking about her favorite food. “What do you and Dinky like to do with each other?”

“Coloring in her coloring books, board games, helping me cook. I love her more than anything in the world.”

Twilight couldn’t hide the smile from her face (nor did she try to) as she wrote in her notepad some more.

The lavender unicorn said, “That’s very caring of you. Final question: Despite what happened at the Prom, do you think you’d ever date anypony ever again?”

“Honestly, I don’t know.” Derpy responded, “I mean, sure it would be nice to find a pony to go out with; but between my work delivering mail, traveling with the Doctor, and raising Dinky…”

Twilight nodded, “It’s okay, there’s no right or wrong answer.” She wrote in her notepad again before setting it down. “Well, I think that will do it. Thanks for your time Derpy.”

“Anytime Twilight.” Derpy replied while shaking her hoof. And with that, she turned around and exited the library.

After certain that she was gone, Twilight called out; “Well, Rarity? Thoughts?”

“Well… her clumsiness aside, she is polite enough. And Miss Hooves certainly has a pleasant sense of humor. But honestly, I’m not sure if she’s dating material. It’s not that I don’t think we’d make fantastic partners, it’s just that I don’t want to risk taking her time way from her job as a mail mare; and more importantly, from her daughter. So I’m afraid I’m going to have to pass on Derpy Hooves.” Rarity summarized.

Boo-yah! That’s one potential escort down for the count!

Don’t say that! I think it was commendable on Rarity’s part. She took into account of Derpy’s casual lifestyle, and her daughter.

...You are such a kill-joy. You know that?

“Very well then,” Twilight said, “let’s bring in the next one.”

Twilight trotted over to the door and opened it. “Next pony please.”

Two mares stepped forward and Twilight recognized both of them. On the left was another one of her closest friends, Pinkie Pie. On the right was Bon Bon, local candy-maker, roommate, and close friend of Lyra Heartstrings.

Twilight gave the pink Earth Pony a puzzled look, “Pinkie? What brings you over here? I didn’t know you were single.”

Pinkie Pie wasted no time into going into one of her overly excited rants.

“Oh I sure am Twilight! But Bonnie and I aren’t looking for Special Someponies today, but Lyra’s birthday is coming up next week and you know how much I love parties but my favorite kind of parties are BIRTHDAY PARTIES! So while Bonnie was delivering some candy to Mr. and Mrs. Cake today she mentioned Lyra’s birthday and I had this super duper brilliant idea for a totally out of this world birthday party idea; I grabbed Bonnie and brought her here just right now so we could find some books on party ideas because I could use some inspiration to how a background pony could enjoy a party created by a main pony!”

Twilight tilted her head, “Wait, if you just got here, how did you know about the single pony survey. And for that matter, who said anything about Special Someponies?!”

Pinkie gave a simple answer; “I read the last three chapters.”

Twilight could only stare at her pink friend.

I’m at a loss for words right now.

I bet you are.

You mean to tell me that you’re not weirded out by any of this?

We’ve been friends with Pinkie Pie for YEARS. How is this a surprise to you?

Finally, the cream-coated pony stepped forward. “I think what Pinkie is trying to say is that Lyra’s birthday is next week and I’ve asked Pinkie to help me throw a party for her. But then we saw this line in front of the library. We assumed there was some kind of book sale going on.”

Twilight finally nodded in understanding; “Ah, I see now. So, how does Lyra’s upcoming birthday party involve coming here?”

“Well…” Bon Bon answered, “There’s nopony in Ponyville better at getting a party organized than Pinkie Pie; and she figured that there should be a dessert cookbook here.”

“That’s right!” Pinkie Pie added, “I wanna find a super special kind of cake for Lyra! But I gotta admit, between the super special cake and getting my Party Cannon loaded and ready, I’m gonna have my hooves full. But that hasn’t stopped me before!”

As Pinkie Pie spoke, Spike approached the group with a book in his claws.

“Could this help?” He asked as he gave the book over to the two Earth Ponies. The title read ‘Unique Cake Recipes for Eggheads.’

Pinkie Pie leapt into the air; “IT’S PERFECT! I just know that in here is a cake Lyra is going to love! First, she’ll look at it in absolute disbelief then she’ll eat some of it and the next thing anypony knows…SHE’LL BE OVER PRINCESS LUNA’S MOON!!!!” She cried out.

Bon Bon then cut in; “I meanwhile will be handling the invitations and RSVPs.” She turned towards Twilight and Spike, “You two are invited by the way. I’ve already sent invitations to your other friends too.”

“Sweet!” Spike replied excitedly.

Twilight spoke, “Well, I’ll have to see how my schedule works out; but I’m most definitely interested in going.”

“Great!” Bon Bon responded, “The party is next week over at the bowling alley at noon. Maybe if enough ponies come, we can even get a bowling tournament going!”

Spike couldn’t resist throwing in his two bits; “Well, I may be no professional bowler… but when I get my groove going, you guys had better watch out.”

Before anypony could say anything else, Pinkie Pie started pushing Bon Bon out the door. “Come on Bonnie! We’ve got a lot to get super- duper- allie- uper ready for!”

Bon Bon turned her head back to the lavender unicorn and baby dragon, “Uh… goodbye! Hope you two can make it!” With that being said, both Earth Ponies exited the library and closed the door.

Twilight called out, “Rarity? Did you catch that?”

“Yes I did. Pinkie Pie certainly has a way with… wooing the crowd.”

Spike asked the invisible white unicorn; “Say, you don’t think that Lyra’s birthday party at the bowling alley might be a good
location for one of your potential dates?”

Both the student and the assistant heard the dress maker mull over that possibility; “Well, bowling isn’t exactly my favorite interest… or any sport for that matter. But there’s nothing wrong with me and my date spectating and enjoying the rest of the party. So yes Spikey-Wikey; that sounds like a sound idea.”

Twilight decided to change the subject, “Alright then, let’s get back to business, shall we?” She trotted over to the door and opened it. “Next pony please!”

The pony to step forward was a stallion. But Twilight had to do a double take before asking the next candidate.

“Uh… I’m assuming you’re here for the survey?” Twilight asked uncertainly.

She got a response from the stallion in front of her.

“YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Oh…

Sweet…

Horseapples.

Chapter Five

His name was Snow Flake.

On a personal level, Twilight Sparkle knew very little of him. What she did know however was that he was a Pegasus stallion having moved from Cloudsdale shortly before the Tornado event held in Ponyville; something which he later assisted in along with virtually every other Pegasus Pony in Ponyville. And from what Rainbow Dash told her, during her time at the Wonderbolt Academy, Snow Flake was also in her class and did quite well doing so; placing fourth best-in-class. He was also well known to be one of the largest built Pegasus Ponies who has ever lived in the history of Equestiria.

And he was standing right in front of the librarian.

Finally finding her voice, Twilight spoke, “…Well then, Mr. Snow Flake… would you please come on inside so we can begin our interview?”

“YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!” Was her response.

Once inside the library, and after reminding herself to get her hearing checked in the future, Twilight took her usual place in front of the interviewee and wrote down what she already knew about the white coated, muscular Pegasus Pony.

NAME: Snow Flake

GENDER: Male

Looking back up towards Snow Flake, Twilight began her questions.

“Please tell me, Snow Flake; do you… have any certain hobbies…?” Twilight asked.

“YEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!!!!” Snow Flake responded.

Twilight then added another question, “Very well then. And what might those be?”

“Well, I find crossword puzzles to be very stimulating if I don’t say so myself.”

There was a very long, pregnant pause. Twilight couldn’t help but cock her head to the side; and as she glanced over to her side, she saw Spike with his mouth hanging wide open.

It was Snow Flake of all present who broke the silence. After a sigh, he explained in a surprisingly calm manner;

“I know what you’re thinking Miss Sparkle: Why oh why am I talking like this now? I’m afraid it’s a condition I’ve had since the day I was born. I scream, well… what I can only assume what others like to call my ‘catch-phrase’, whenever somepony asks me a ‘Yes or No’ question. Take for example my taste in music: I happen to enjoy smooth jazz and on occasion even some of the more classics from Beethooven the Third. Now please ask me if I enjoy any music from Sapphire Shores.”

After a stunned silence, Twilight complied, “Um… do you enjoy music by Sapphire Shores?”

“YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!” After composing himself he then added, “See? I absolutely despise her songs and… well, you just saw what happened.”

Spike then spoke, “Geez, growing up must have been tough.”

Snow Flake turned to Spike and answered; “I’m afraid so. I was unfortunately the target of numerous bullies in school.
There was this one mare in particular who always went after me.” He then had a small grin on his face as he continued;
“Nonetheless, she got her comeuppance in the end at the annual Cloudsdale High, in the form of a flying punch bowl.”

A recent interview was jotted in the mind of Princess Celestia’s student.

“Flying punch bowl…” Twilight pondered out loud, “…oh wait! I remember one of my recent interviewees mentioning something about that.”

Snow Flake added, “You must be talking about Miss Derpy Hooves then. A very charming mare; she’s very nice when you get to know her better. She was in fact my date for the prom that year; and after we’ve witness what has got to be the best form of payback on a bully, we retreated for some ice cream with Miss Rainbow Dash and Miss Fluttershy. Afterwards, Derpy and I both agreed that we’re better off as friends; friends with a common interest.”

Finally writing down all that she had heard from the large stallion, Twilight then skipped to her last question.

“Would you ever consider dating anypony in the future?”

“YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!” He once again composed himself, “My apologies. But to answer your question… I’m not dating anypony at the moment; but who knows what the future holds.”

After writing down his response, Twilight then proceeded to show Snow Flake the exit as she spoke. “Well, thank you Snow Flake I think that will do for today. Thank you for your time.”

“A pleasure Miss Sparkle;” Snow Flake responded as he walked out the door. “And good day to as well Master Spike.” He called out to the dragon assistant.

After the door closed, Spike spoke, “Master Spike? That’s the first time anypony has ever called me that. I like it.”

“Don’t get any funny ideas Spike.” Twilight replied in mock annoyance.

Rarity gave her input, “Well I think it’s quite dapper for Spikey-Wikey.”

“Why thank you Miss Rarity.” Spike responded.

“As for Snow Flake,” Rarity said, “I’m quite surprised. He seems far more intellectual than what I assumed. If there was anything I learned from my experience with that filthy scoundrel from the Grand Galloping Gala, it’s that I should NEVER judge anypony based solely on their appearance. In the case of Snow Flake, it can work both ways. Therefore, I think I shall put him on the ‘yes for stallions’ category.”

Turning towards Spike, Twilight asked him, “Spike, how many more ponies are out there?”

Looking out the window, Spike replied, “I can see only three left. Two of them are mares, and the third one is wearing a big thick jacket. Not really sure why, it’s summer. The two mares, by the way, are Colgate and Flitter.”

Twilight made a mental note to look into why the third pony decided to wear something large and thick on a warm day later.

At that moment, her mind was focused on the other two mares in line with him or her; Rarity’s potential two other dates.
Colgate was Ponyville’s local dentist. Not just any dentist, but she was a dentist to be reckoned with. She was often seen going around the town reminding other ponies of upcoming appointments like how Pinkie Pie memorizes the names and cutie marks of every pony in Ponyville. Not to mention that she makes a habit of going on huge rants over what was supposed to be a simple teeth cleaning and making them sound like doing a heart transplant.

But still, Colgate was polite around others, and she was very good at her job; that had to count for something.

Flitter on the other hoof was a very… interesting pony, to say the least. She lived with her twin sister, Cloud Chaser, and they both work for Rainbow Dash’s Weather Team. As far as personal life goes, she and her sibling were very much opposite of each other. Cloud Chaser was a fan of loud rock music, Flitter meanwhile preferred calmer smooth jazz compilations. While Flitter was a proficient Chess player, Cloud Chaser spends a good majority of her down time at night in playing the latest craze in Equestria: Online Gaming. Cloud Chaser has shown herself to be quite spontaneous while her twin preferred to keep things at a steady pace.

Sounds like a milder version of comparing Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Twilight thought to herself.

Now, in this particular case, Twilight had now just learned that the Pegasus twins’ opposite life style had even reached their dating life. Cloud Chaser had been seeing another local Pegasus stallion by the name of Thunderlane for a couple of months; while Flitter seemed to be more interested in a mare dating partner.

As she ran all of that information through her mind, she had absentmindedly trotted over to the door and motioned for the next pony in line to enter; whom turned out to be the strange jacket wearing pony.

Might as well get this mystery out of the way.

“Why hello there...” Twilight started as she awaited the name of this particular pony.

In a gravelly voice, the pony responded, “My real name isn’t important. You may call me… Mysterious Stranger.”

Twilight stared at ‘Mysterious Stranger’ for a couple of seconds, noting that the voice was clearly disguised but had a feminine touch to it. It was also quite young as well. That was when Twilight noticed that her hooves were orange while the part of her mane that stuck out from the Stranger’s hat was red. Finally, Twilight could have sworn that there was what looked like the tip of a pink ribbon along with the exposed mane.

…What in the world are the Cutie Mark Crusaders up to now? Twilight thought, Very well then girls, I’ll play along… for now.

“Well then, Mysterious Stranger, would you please come inside?” Twilight asked as she led the way inside the library, with the not so stealthy fillies in disguise following suit.

Once again taking up her position in front of her newest interviewee, Twilight then realized that she really didn’t need to write anything down; seeing that the Crusaders were up to something mischievous. Therefore, she settled for pretending to write something in her note pad; for the sake of playing along.

Twilight asked the first question, “Tell me Mysterious Stranger, what hobbies do you enjoy?”

Twilight could hear some hushed whispering from within the jacket, and then followed by the gravelly voice speaking more loudly.

“I don’t want to go into details, but let’s just say that it involves a lot of…sand... and the construction of fortresses on them.”

Twilight asked, “You mean, building sandcastles?”

“…Um… yes that.” The Stranger responded.

After pretending to write down ‘Spending time on the beach’ on her notepad, Twilight looked back up at the cloaked Stranger and asked the one question that would truly get the attention of the disguised Crusaders.

“Now tell me, Mysterious Stranger, have you ever dated anypony in the past, and-or had any romantic relationships with anypony in particular?”

“Gah!” A voice not sounding like the Mysterious Stranger erupted from within the coat. Following suit was an orange coated-purple maned Pegasus filly emerging from the cloak; none other than Scootaloo, Rainbow Dash’s biggest fan and all around tomcolt.

“This is so not worth it!” Scootaloo cried to the two other fillies now emerging from the cloak.

The first filly, Applejack’s younger sister Apple Bloom, was the first to respond. “Aw come on Scoots! What ever happened to tryin’ to get our Cutie Marks on bein’ secret agents?”

Scootaloo turned towards the yellow coated filly, “That was before we realized that this was about lovey-dovey stuff.”

“You didn’t have a problem with that when we tried to get Big Mac an’ Miss Cheerilee together… even if we did make a few mistakes…” Apple Bloom countered.

Scootaloo argued back, “Yeah, but that was because it was Hearts and Hooves Day. We didn’t want Miss Cheerilee to be alone on that day of all days. Not to mention that I don’t like it whenever anything lovey-dovey is pointing in my direction.”

“And the fact that Rainbow Dash an’ Fluttershy are datin’ doesn’t affect you at all?” Apple Bloom replied.

The third filly, Rarity’s younger sister Sweetie Belle, sighed and spoke to herself. “If Babs were here right now…”

Apple Bloom was correct on one thing however: The Captain of Ponyville’s Weather Patrol and Ponyville’s local veterinarian had only begun seeing each other just a couple of weeks prior to the interview session being held in the library. Some felt it was only natural that the two ponies, both who have known each other longer than the rest of Twilight’s friends, would eventually start spending more and more time with each other. When Twilight thought about it, they really did complement each other quite well.

Rainbow Dash would help give confidence and encouragement to Fluttershy whenever she went into her usual timid state.

In return, Fluttershy would act as moral support for Rainbow Dash whenever the speedster did some aerial training or when she just can’t land a new trick correctly.

Eventually, as the old saying goes: ‘This led to That’; and soon enough, Fluttershy finally found the nerve to ask Rainbow Dash out to a movie. Soon after, they’ve announced to everypony else that the two were now dating each other. Not as a full blown couple… at least not yet; but giving it a shot and seeing where it goes from there. Thus far, things seem to be going quite well for the two Pegasus members of what several ponies of Equestria came to call Twilight and her friends as ‘The Mane Six.’

Snapping back into reality, Twilight seized the opportunity and became the peacekeeper for the quarreling fillies.

“That’s enough from both of you.” Twilight commanded. After Apple Bloom and Scootaloo finally stopped arguing with each other, the lavender unicorn mare continued. “Now, why were the three of you wearing a big thick coat and using a thick accent?”

Sweetie Belle answered, “We decided to try to get our Cutie Marks in being top secret spies, like from the movies; and we decided to test out our disguise when we heard of some interviews happening here at the library. We figured that if we can fool our close ones with our disguise we can fool anypony.”

“Yeah, but that was before we found out that this had something to do with dating other ponies.” Scootaloo added.

Apple Bloom, ignoring Scootaloo’s distaste for anything sappy, asked Twilight, “You were fooled by us weren’t ya?”

Twilight decided to go easy on them, “Yes actually, before Scootaloo’s outburst you all had me questioning who might that Mysterious Stranger be.” Twilight decided to change the subject, “Is there anything else I can do for you girls?”

Sweetie Belle was the one to respond once again, “Well, while we’re here, do you have any of the ‘Where’s Colto’ puzzle books. We’re really starting to get into those back at Club House.”

“I think we do have some here Sweetie.” Twilight responded, “A wise choice too, Princess Cadance and I loved to do those back when I was your age! Spike, could you-”

Just as Twilight asked her dragon assistant to grab a puzzle book, he had already completed his task and walked right up to the Crusaders with a book in his claws. “Already done Twilight.” Spike said as he held the book out to Apple Bloom.

However, the youngest sibling of the Apple Family of Ponyville stood there almost frozen in front of the purple scaled dragon. Twilight couldn’t help but notice that there was a slight blush on the yellow filly’s face as she stammered out a response.

“Oh… uh… t-t-thank you S-S-Spike. What w-would we d-do without ya!” After uttering out those words, she grabbed the book in her teeth and bolted out the door.

Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo slowly glanced at each other, then towards Twilight and Spike.

“…We’re just as confused as you two are, so please don’t ask.” Scootaloo spoke after a long, awkward silence.

“…Okay then…” Twilight slowly spoke, “I’ll just mark that book down and it’ll be due in a week.”

The two fillies nodded and bid the unicorn and baby dragon a farewell before leaving to find their confused friend.

After another pause, Spike finally turned to Twilight and asked, “What the heck was that all about?”

Although Twilight had a very good idea on what Apple Bloom’s actions meant, she decided to not to jump to conclusions. The last thing she wanted was a repeat of how she dealt with the false Princess Cadance at the wedding rehearsal.

No, don’t think like that. She thought to herself, Don’t dwell on past mistakes. Besides, that was over a year ago; just let it go.

Rarity however answered for her. “I think I may know what that was about… but I’m not going to spoil anything for you Spikey-Wikey.” She said, her tone suggesting that she too had some strong suspicion of the youngest Apple sibling’s apparent crush.

Spike for his part shook his head at both of them, “Why must you two torment me like this?” He then walked over to the door to let in the next pony.

Chapter Six

“…I mean seriously, by the time I was finished with filling in Caramel’s cavity, I was about ready to ring him a new one on proper dental care. How hard is it to brush twice a day? It’s far from poisonous, it’s a far better alternative to having your teeth rot and fall out from your mouth, and they shouldn’t count out flossing, that ranks up there too!”

Colgate gave a sigh as she finished detailing her most recent procedure from her dental office.

“That was how my Wednesday was. Did you need to know anything else Twilight?” She asked.

The lavender unicorn however stared at her dumbfounded. For twenty uninterrupted minutes, Ponyville’s local dentist had delved into a long description of one of her most recent patients and his apparent lack of brushing twice a day.
If there was one positive thing that came out of Colgate’s twenty minute rant was that Twilight Sparkle now had a better picture of dental care.

“Um…” Twilight spoke as she struggled to form a response, “…No thank you Colgate. I think that will do for today. Thank you for your time.

Colgate turned to leave, but paused as she approached the door. Turning her head towards Spike she told him, “Oh and by the way Spike, you got an appointment coming up next week. Just wanted you to know.” The blue unicorn mare then finally turned around and trotted out the door.

Once the door shut, Twilight finally dropped her fake smile. “Did she really have to go into excruciating detail about her checkups?” She asked rhetorically.

“Indeed. While she is quite knowledgeable on proper dental care, Colgate seems to pat her ego a bit too much.” Rarity chimed in.

Spike couldn’t help but throw in his two bits on the matter, “Yeah seriously, it’s not like she’s doing a heart transplant.” He then walked over to the door to bring in the final interviewee, the Pegasus mare Flitter.

Flitter trotted in after Spike granted her entry to the library.

“Hello Flitter, how are you today?” Twilight greeted.

Flitter gave a small shrug as she answered, “Oh, nothing too special. I have the day off from the Weather Patrol and I decided to come to this interview thing that’s going on here. Cloud’s going to be working all day, so is Thunderlane, and Rumble is at school so… why not?”

Twilight pulled out her trusty notepad and began writing down the essentials.

NAME: Flitter

GENDER: Female

OCCUPATION: Weather Pony

The lavender unicorn then asked, “Do you have any favorite hobbies?”

“Well, I do like to cook;” Flitter responded. “My mom had a ton of cookbooks back at my old home in Cloudsdale that I always looked at when I was just a filly. I guess my mom’s love for cooking rubbed off onto me. It really helps me out whenever I foalsit Rumble whenever Cloud Chaser and Thunderlane go out somewhere. He always gets so excited whenever I make his favorite meal: Spaghetti and Hayballs.” She finished with a smug look on her face.

After writing down ‘Enjoys Cooking’ on her notepad, Twilight moved onto her next question;

“Have you ever dated anypony before today?” She asked.

Flitter answered, “Honestly, no I have not. I was fine going solo during my time at Cloudsdale High.” The Pegasus mare’s face then developed a small frown; “Usually it was Cloud Chaser always finding ways to rate the ‘hot colts’ of our class. She always gave them a ‘One through Ten’ scale, with ‘One’ being bad and ‘Ten’ being best.”

Twilight asked the final question as she wrote; “What about today? Do you ever want to find a pony to date now?”

Flitter thought about it for a moment, and then answered, “You know what? Maybe I’ll look into it. I’m not sure if I’ll find anypony that I could consider a Special Somepony, but who knows? It might be fun.”

As Twilight wrote down the necessary words onto her notepad, she couldn’t help but feel that she and Flitter had something in common with each other. During her time in Canterlot, at Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, Twilight was always very engrossed with her regular classes, her private studies, and her personal lessons with Princess Celestia herself. With Shining Armor away at Guard Basic Training and her at the time only friend being a certain purple scaled baby dragon, Twilight almost never got involved with anything as distracting as eying up the cute teenage colts and the occasional filly. Those straight A’s weren’t going to go her on their own after all.

But now practically an adult, having experienced what true friendship with five other mares, and with her eyes set on a certain white coated Unicorn mare, Twilight just couldn’t ignore the near similarities she had with the Pegasus Mare standing in front of her.

After writing down her final entry, Twilight once again spoke to Flitter; “I think that will do it. Thank you for your time Flitter.”

“No problem at all.” Flitter replied simply as she trotted out the door.

After the door shut, Twilight turned towards where Rarity was standing and her horn began to glow. “Your thoughts Rarity?”

“Well, Miss Flitter seems very friendly;” Rarity replied as the invisibility spell was removed and was once again visible. “She certainly has a responsible side of her to be willing to keep an eye on Rumble. Not to mention that she enjoys cooking. If I decide to have a date with her, we’ll have to see if I can sample some of her cooking.”

Twilight set aside her notepad, quill, and ink bowl and asked Rarity, “How about we go out and take a break from all of this?

Maybe see how Pinkie Pie is doing over at Sugar Cube Corner?” Rarity nodded and headed towards the door; while
Twilight turned towards Spike and asked, “Spike, would you be willing to hold down the fort while we’re gone. I’ll be sure to bring you back something you’ll like.”

“If it means getting something sweet to eat, then absolutely.” Spike replied.

“I knew I could count on you.” Twilight said as she gave him a quick hug. She then turned to follow Rarity out the door and towards Sugar Cube Corner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometime later, both Unicorns had arrived at the local bakery and home of both the Cake Family and Pinkie Pie. The party pony soon joined them bringing several glasses of lemonade and blueberry muffins.

“How did your dating thingy go?” Pinkie Pie asked, just starting to go into one of her rapid fire rants;

“Did you find your perfect somepony already? Are you gonna get married and have lots and lots of foals? Of course if you’re getting married then I’ll have to throw the biggest wedding reception of all time! It’ll make the wedding in Canterlot’s reception look like a circus! Not that circuses are bad, I love circuses, especially the acrobats, the funny looking animals-I’ll have to get Fluttershy to see them sometime- and of course, THE CLOWNS!!! The masters of laughter! Rarity, do you want clowns at your reception?”

Rarity managed to keep herself composed throughout Pinkie Pie’s excited questioning and replied; “Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves dear. I’m going to think about who to ask out when I return home. Then I will ask that certain pony if they would be interested in something small at first, like going out for tea for instance. Marriage is a fairly significant step that shouldn’t be rushed Pinkie.”

Twilight nodded in agreement, but decided to keep Pinkie’s spirits up, “Don’t worry Pinkie, if or when the time comes that one of us- as well as Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and even yourself- ever do get married, you’ll be the first pony to call for reception planning.”

“Thank you so much Twilight!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed before taking a quick swig from her lemonade. She then decided to switch topics; “Well, Bonnie left just before you two got here. She’s giving out invitations to everypony in Ponyville. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are coming for sure, but Applejack can’t because of the upcoming Zap Apple Harvest. Ooh! The Cutie Mark Crusaders are coming though! So is Derpy and Cloud Chaser and Flitter and Thunderlane and Snowflake and of course Lyra –the birthday mare!” She finished without even taking a breath. She then added in, “Not to mention the readers…”

Twilight tilted her head, “The who?”

“Not important!” Pinkie Pie replied, “What is important for you two and Spike is that the party is in two weeks!”

Rarity spoke, “We will certainly attempt to make it darling.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After their meeting with Pinkie Pie, Twilight and Rarity left Sugarcube Corner with a bag containing another muffin for Spike.

Rarity turned to leave towards her home, Carousel Boutique, but not before turning towards her lavender friend.

“Twilight, I simply cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done to help me.” Rarity said as she gave Twilight a firm hug.

Twilight responded, “Anytime Rarity. Let me know how your first date works out.”

After releasing the hug, the two friends went their separate ways. Twilight had quite a bit to ponder about.

For instance, how now she’ll have to Faust Almighty that Rarity will somehow see past her potential suitors and eventually start to see Twilight in a new light; Or how several of said suitors actually seem like they could be great partners for the dress maker; Not to mention that if that were to happen, then Twilight would lose any chance of attempting to date the mare Unicorn she herself has been holding a torch for since the events of the Grand Galloping Gala…

“Now now Twilight;” She said to herself, “Now’s not the time to panic…”

She then continued with a shudder in her breath, “…that comes later.”
