Twilight's spell backfires and the mane six revisit their foalhood...
This is my first fanfic so tell me what you think! Please forgive me. It probably has been done before but I was on vacation and it popped into my head. Couldn't think of title.
Twilight has just read about a new spell, she thinks it will come in use and can't wait to show the her friends. But it backfires on them, causing the mane six to revisit with their foalhoods...
Sunlight streamed down through a window and fell onto the form of a reading mare. Stacks of books were piled in precarious positions around the library. Her magenta eyes were fixated on a book, which she held open close to her face.
"Twilight?" A voice yelled from upstairs breaking her out of her reverie. She blinked quickly and lowered her book.
"Yes Spike?" Twilight called back, trying to hide the annoyance in her voice. She failed miserably.
"Um, what happened to all the ice cream?" Spike asked uncertainly. He appeared at the top of the wooden staircase, scratching his head.
"You ate it all, remember?" Obviously he didn't. "Would you like me to go get more at Sugarcube Corner?"
"Yeah, thanks Twi!" Spike said enthsiastically as he disappeared from sight. Spike was always buying more ice cream from Sugarcube Corner, so Mrs. and Mr. Cake had to ban him from buying anymore. Now Twilight had to buy him ice cream herself.Twilight swung her saddlebags over her back and trotted out the library door. When she had started reading it had been early morning, now it was the middle of the afternoon. 'Yikes I need to get out more,' She thought to herself.
As Twilight trotted towards Sugarcube Corner, Rarity turned the nearest corner, walking as elegantly as always. Rarity finally spotted Twilight.
"Twilight, dear, I must speak with you," Rarity called as she walked faster. Twilight stopped and waited patiently for her fashionista friend to catch up. Rarity managed to catch up and adjusted the yellow, floppy sun hat that was perched atop her perfectly styled curls.
"Twilight I, well I happened to misplace my turquoise sparkly ribbon." Rarity's face looked disgusted when she mentioned turquoise "Of course you know turquoise is very last season, I just needed it for an order. Have you happen to have seen it anywhere?" Rarity's brows had knitted together in worry.
"No, sorry Rarity I haven't seen it anywhere. Oh wait, yes! I did see it!" Twilight exclaimed and Rarity's face lit up with happiness. "I just can't seem to remember where..." Twilight rubbed her chin with a hoof thoughtfully.Rarity looked crestfallen.
"Well thanks anyway," Rarity told her as she walked back towards her boutique sadly.
"I'll uh, get back to you on that!" Twilight called awkwardly, as she walked backwards. Suddenly she crashed into something hard and fell to the dusty road, facefirst.
"Sorry sugarcube," Applejack's voice said apologetically from above.Twilight just moaned as she lifted her dizzy head from the road. She grabbed the hoof that was offered to her and stood up. She shook her head to clear it.
"No, it was my fault AJ," Twilight told her. Looking over Applejack's shoulder she could see the fresh apple product's of the morning. Twilight's stomach growled loudly.
"Hey you sound like ya might be interested in ma famous apples," AJ said as she nudged Twilight gently. Twilight nodded and gazed at a very appetizing looking apple pie. "Uh Twi? Yer droolin' " Twilight instantly shut her mouth and blushed.
"Um a apple fritter sounds pretty good," Twilight admitted. Applejack nodded knowingly, the Apple family did have the best apple fritters in town. Twilight gave her two bits and started to take the food to a nearby bench, when AJ stopped her.
"Hey Twilight? Have ya happend ta have come across ma lucky rope? I can't find it anywhere." Applejack asked, scratching her mane. Twilight shook her head no, eyeing the large apple fritter that she held close to her mouth.
"No. Sorry AJ I thought I saw it but don't know exactly where." Applejack nodded sullenly. Twilight headed towards the bench that invited her to sit down and eat. After eating the apple she felt a little tired and slowly, she dozed off to sleep.
Twilight hwas having a great dream. All of Equestria was bowing to her including Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Suddenly Luna stood up and spoke to Twilight.
"Twilight. Hey Twilight, wakeup!" Twilight tried to fall back into the clutches of sleep but just couldn't do it. Now she was being prodded by something.
"Go 'way," Twilight said, waving a hoof at her awakener. She slowly cracked an eye open and saw fushia eyes staring only inches away. "AAARRGGHHH!" Twilight yelled as she fell from the bench in surprise. "Rainbow! You scared the life out of me!" Twilight sat up and glared at her friend.
"Aaaww Twilight you look pretty alive to me," Rainbowdash leaned down towards Twilight "Except, is that a gray hair?" Twilight fearfully reached for her mane, causing Rainbow to fall on the ground laughing. Twilight then realized RD had been joking and stood up angrily.
"Oh hey Twilight," Rainbowdash called after Twilight who was stomping angrily away. She stood up "I, uh lost something important." Rainbow cringed as Twilight stopped dead, not even bothering to turn around.
"What did you lose?" She asked in a calm voice. Rainbow looked at her hooves and kicked at the dirt.
"My... element of loyalty necklace," Rainbowdash closed her eyes tightly, expecting the worse.
"You. Lost. What?!!!" Twilight slowly turned around and the rage was obvious in her eyes. "You weren't supposed to keep it! You should have given it back to the princess!" She shouted.
"It was just so shiny I just...." Rainbow slowly trailed off. Rainbow looked up. "So uh have ya seen it?" Twilight narrowed her eyes at the forgettful mare.
"It's probably in your house somewhere," Twilight sighed her anger fading quickly. Rainbowdash's house was a wreck, it was probably under a pile of junk. Rainbowdash quickly thanked her and flew off towards her cloud home.
Twilight started, yet again, towards SugarCube Corner. Soon the tall structure could be seen between a couple of houses. She trotted eagerly towards the sweet shop and rushed throught the door. The smell of freshly baked cupcakes surrounded Twilight in its aroma and she sniffed deeply. Mrs. Cake was holding Poundcake and Pumpkincake and talking with Mr. Cake. Pinkie was carrying trays of cupcakes on her head, both front hooves, a hind hoof, and, surprisingly was not slowed down at all by her burden.
"Hey Twilight," Pinkie said, as she placed the fresh cupcakes on the counter and started taking older cupcakes out of the display case. "Ya want some cupcakes? You can have one for free cause I just made four new batches." Twilight smiled and took a pink frosted one with rainbow sprinkles. Taking a bite of the cupcake made Twilight feel as if she were in Heaven. Vanilla frosting filled up the middle and the frosting was strawberry flavored.Twilight shook her head, clearing the paralyzing effect Pinkie's cupcakes had.
"Hey Pinkie thanks for the cupcake," Pinkie smiled "can I get some emerald ice cream?"
"Yessire Twilight, wait a second, only Spike likes emerald ice cream. Are you getting ice cream for SPIKE even when you're not suppo-" Twilight placed a hoof over Pinkie's mouth.
"Don't tell anypony okay Pinkie? Its our little secret."
"Okee dokee wowkee awtikokie," Pinkie said, still with Twilight's hoof clamped over her muzzle. Twilight sighed with relief and took her hoof off of Pinkie's muzzle. Pinkie bounced off and, after a few minutes, came back with a tub of ice cream which she handed to Twilight, after quickly glancing around. Twilight placed the ice cream in her saddlebags and started to leave, when Pinkie stopped her.
"Hey, pssst Twilight!" Twilight turned around to see Pinkie hiding behind the counterwith her hoof stuck in the air motioning Twilight towards her. Twilight rolled her eyes and came closer.
"What Pinkie?" Twilight asked her.
"You gotta whisper!!" Pinkia whispered.Twilight sighed and whispered back.
"What Pinkie?" She asked again.
"I lost my dectective hat, have you seen it? I don't want anyone else finding it. I keep my cupcakes in there."
"You too huh? I saw it somewhere, maybe AJs. I can't remember." Twilight told her. Suddenly Twilight remembered something. " Can you tell everyone to meet me at the library tomorrow at noon? I know where everypony's lost things are!" Pinkie nodded enthusiastically and ran out the door as a pink blur, going to complete her mission. "Well bye." Twilight said then trotted out the door and made a beeline for home.
When she got home the sun hadsunk below the horizon and all the street lamps were on. She quickly told Spike she was home, put the ice cream in the freezer, brushed her teeth, said goodnight to Spike, and dove into bed.
Twilight sat up and stretched, her hooves reaching towards the ceiling. Spike was still snoring in his basket beside her bed. Twilight decided to let him sleep so she slipped quietly from under her covers, tucked Spike's blanket closer to his sleeping body, and headed to her bathroom. She began brushing her mane with a purple brush, making sure that her mane had no stray hairs sticking up. Her horn began to glow with a purple light, engulfing her toothbrush. She brushed her teeth until they were sparkling with whiteness.
Deciding that Spike was always making her breakfast, Twilight chose to make breakfast for him. Soon two bowls of oatmeal, toast, and two sunflower smoothies were sitting on the kitchen table. Hoofsteps on the stairs announced Spike's awakening.
"Twilight did you MAKE this?" Spike said, with one hand holding his blanket and the other rubbing one eye. Twilight beamed.
"Yes Spike. Would you like some?"
"Yeah sure!" He climbed onto a kitchen chair. A pile of books allowed Spike to reach the top of the table. Twilight slid some food over to him. The dust of mashed up jewels created a thick layer on his toast. Spike licked his lips as the food slid across the smooth surface of the table towards him.
Spike almost gagged when he bit into the toast, it was very burned. The oatmeal was not at all sweet and the smoothie, well it was actually pretty good. Seeing that Twilight was watching him, he nodded his head in false approval. Twilight smiled glad that he liked her food. Somehow she didn't taste how bad it was when she started eating.
As soon as Twilight looked down, Spike spit the toast out in a napkin and sipped the smoothie quickly. The sun was halfway to the middle of the sky and Twilight gasped when she glanced out the window.
"Spike, all our friends are coming at noon!" She cried.
"That's like, two hours away," Spike didn't see what the problem was.
"We need to clean the library and I have to finish reading about the spell! Here I have an idea, you make a to-do list for today and I'll finish reading about the spell. Oh, and can you clean the whole library? Thanks!" Without waiting for an answer from Spike, Twilight dashed to where her book still sat amongst many stacks of others.
She picked up the thick book and started reading. Soon she was completely lost in the book as always.
"Dangit," Spike muttered from his place at the table.
A knock from the door announced her friends arrival. Spike was already at the door, not being able to wait for his beloved Rarity. Just as Spike reached out to pull the door open, it flew open, smashing him between the wall and the door. Rainbowdash rushed through the door towards Twilight. Behind her followed Rarity, AJ, Pinkie, and last of all, Fluttershy.
"Hey Fluttershy, I don't remember you losing anything," Twilight said as she stood and stretched her limbs.
"Well I- I lost my, uh.... needle and thread?" Fluttershy's answer came out more as a question.
"Mmmhmm, yes well the reason I have called you all here today is beca-"
"We get to bake cookies?" Pinkie cried happily.
"No, Pinkie, I have called you all here because you have all lost something or another. I've been reading up on a memory spell, that shows you your past from your own memories. So it should show you where and when you lost all of your stuff. Now, when I activate the memory spell, it will be cast on all of you at once. All that will happen is, you close your eyes and see your own memories. Now, let's begin."
The other five looked at each other apprehensively, that is, except Pinkie Pie. Pinkie was bouncing up and down excitedly. Spike stood up and clutched his head. He shook it to clear his mind and wobbled dizzily behind Twilight to sit on the bottom step of the staircase.
Twilight closed her eyes in deep concentration and purple sparks started to fly from the tip of her horn. The test ponies moved together and looked around them at the purple light that had surrounded them. Soon the purple light had turned into a fog that locked the friends in a purple cyclone. Spike couldn't even see them through the fog. Twilight slowly relaxed and opened her eyes,stopping the sparks that had poured from her horn.
"Well girls, do you know what happened to all your stuff?" Twilight asked eagerly as the fog started to clear up. There was no reply and Twilight's brow furrowed in confusion. "Girls?" The fog cleared up and Twilight could see where her friends were sitting. Wait, had they SHRUNK? Twilight cautiously walked towards the tiny bodies.
"Oh NO!" She cried, turning to Spike. The shock was evident on her face. "I've turned my friends into FOALS!"
"There HAS to be a counter spell! There just has to be!" Twilight shouted. She used her horn to flip the pages of the book that had caused the problem.
"Well hurry up and find it!" Spike was chasing a young Rainbowdash up the stairs. Great. Looks like Rainbowdash can fly.She was also still completely obnoxious.
"Oh no! What if the spell was messed up because I'm not good enough! What if I have to go back to *gasp*... magic... kindergarten?!" This caused Twilight to go into a complete state of panic. She flipped the pages of the book again and again, so fast that there was no way she was seeing them.
"WAAAAAA!" Rarity wailed so loudly Spike covered his ears ( well earholes or whatever dragons have). "SHE BIT ME!" Filly Rarity pointed at a straight haired Pinkie, who was sulking in a corner. Twilight ignored them. Always a good mother\friend.
"Aha!" Twilight pointed at a page in the magic book. "It says that it is possible that the spell is defective and another spell might come in handy. Which is on page 952." Her horn lit up with a lavender color and the pages flipped again. She quickly read the page when she found it. The book slammed shut loudly. "That's it!" Twilight looked around when there was no answer.
The library was empty. Except for her that is. Applejack's stetson lay on the floor, forgotten.
"Guys?" The only sound she heard was the library door swinging shut.
Meanwhile, Spike was running as fast as he could chasing Rainbowdash. The only upside was that she wasn't as fast as when she was a fullgrown mare.Still, sweat poured from Spike's forehead. Rainbow had flown everywhere including Suarcube Corner, the Spa, and Sweet Apple Acres. Spike wasn't cut out for that kind of running.
Spike breathed a sigh of relief when Rainbowdash landed in a tree. He leaned against the tree and tried to catch his breath. He felt a lot like he was gonna keel over soon. Rainbowdash looked down from the tree's highest branches and looked at Spike with large fushia eyes. She stuck out her tongue and gave him a raspberry, then dashed from her tree.
"You gotta be kidding me!!" Spike yelled. He again started after Rainbowdash, his head hanging low to the ground.
Twilight was racing around Ponyville so fast, she could almost be mistaken as Rainbowdash. Almost. Her head whipped from side to side frantically. 'Where in Equestria could those fillies be?' she thought to herself. Suddenly a white speck caught her eye as she raced past one of the shops. Twilight stopped so fast that she covered an unlucky pony with dirt. Doing a double take, she saw that the white speck was Rarity.
Rarity was looking at a pony with adorable, large puppy eyes. The pony, who was Lyra Heartstrings, smiled and reached into her saddlebag. She took out her favorite lyre, and- and... what? Gave it to Rarity?! Filly Rarity smiled and Twilight noticed the aqua aura coming from Rarity's horn. She was using magic on Lyra! Most likely a hypnotyzing spell of some sort. But the most skilled unicorn could barely do a hypnotyzing spell let alone a foal.
After Lyra had walked away, Rarity headed towards Junebud. Twilight facehoofed. Rarity was even worse than Spike when he had experienced a growth sprout and started to manipulate other ponies. Twilight quickly moved to stop Rarity before more ponies were robbed unknowingly. Before Twilight reached the tiny terror, Junebud was handing Rarity her blue flowers.
'How is Rarity going to hold all of that stuff?' Twilight asked herself. Rarity kept both the flowers and lyre aloft but also used her magic to manipulate the ponies.
"Rarity!" Twilight shouted causing the foal to turn. "Manipulating other ponies is wrong! Give those ponies their stuff back!" Rarity's little face took on a menacing look. Suddenly Twilight felt a little strange, like she wanted to give Rarity something. Twilight shook her head to clear it of the strange haze.
"Oh no you don't!" Twilight muttered and closed her eyes in concentration. She used a spell to block Rarity's spell. When Rarity realized that she couldn't get through to Twilight she lobbed the lyre at her. "Ow!" Twilight cried as the lyre hit her on the head. Rarity turned and ran, but really she was about as fast as Twilight's trot. Twilight thought of the counter spell and started to cast it on the fleeing filly.
A bright, lavender light shot from Twilight's horn and hit Rarity. Slowly she started to grow and age until she was exactly the same as she normally was. Twilight rushed up to Rarity who had stopped running and was rubbing her head quizzically.
"Um, Twilight dear why am I out here? The last thing I remembered was you casting that spell and I-" She stopped midsentence and a new understanding lit her eyes. She pointed at Twilight angrily. "You turned me into a-" Twilight clapped a hoof over her mouth.
"Yes, yes but we need to turn the others back." Twilight removed her hoof from Rarity's muzzle. "Can you help me?" Rarity nodded slowly.
"I guess," She said uncertainly. Twilight sighed with relief. "Good." They continued the search for the others.
"Gotcha!" Spike shouted happily as he caught Rainbow Dash's multi colored tail. She kept flying at a slightly slower pace, towing Spike behind her. Man she's strong. Spike planted his feet in the earth to try to stop her. All it did was leave a line in the dirt. As they rounded a corner, Twilight and Rarity stared at them in shock.
"HELP ME TWILIGHT!!" Spike screamed. Seems like he's been doing a lot of that lately. Twilight got over her initial shock and zapped Rainbowdash as the strange duo sped past. Rainbow grew in size until she reached her normal size. Her wings slowed and she lazily hovered in the air with Spike still attached to her tail like an anchor.
"Spike? What are you do-" RD stopped midsentence and turned towards Twilight who was hurrying towards the two, Rarity ather side. "Um... did you just turn me into a foal?"
Twilight nodded solemnly. "Yup now we've got to turn the others back. If you can find Applejack and Rarity you find Fluttershy, then I will find Pinkie. Oh, and Spike, you go with Rainbow and find AJ." Twilight spewed orders from her mouth like an officer in the army. The four broke apart and headed in different directions.
