Dreams
Rainbow Dash awoke to find herself smiling and very, very happy. Even happier than she was when she woke up yesterday morning. She’d had another dream of her and her secret love, Fluttershy. They were sitting beneath a tree atop a hill overlooking Sweet Apple Acres. The two of them found that spot to be quite calm and relaxing, both in Rainbow’s dreams, and in the real world.
As she got up and started walking towards her bathroom, she thought to herself, There’s got to be a way to tell Flutters how I feel, I’m tired of waiting. Maybe Twilight can help me. After washing up and brushing the knots out of her mane, she decided to give her unicorn friend a visit
.
“Get the door Spike!” Twilight shouted from her room.
“Alright, alright calm down,” Spike answered as he hurried towards the door, “Hey Rainbow Dash,” Spike said as he stepped aside and motioned her to come inside. “What brings you here?”
“Is Twilight here? I need to talk to her.” The cyan pegasus asked impatiently.
“Yeah she’s up in her room,” Spike answered while pointing to the stairs, “First door on the left.”
“Thanks.” Rainbow quickly said as she trotted up the stairs.
“Hey Rainbow!” Twilight exclaimed as she dusted off some of her more personal books.
“Hey Twi.” Rainbow said as she sat on the edge of Twilight’s bed.
“What’s wrong? You look worried.” Twilight asked as she sat next to her friend.
“I need your advice on a little problem I got.”
“Sure! What’s your problem?”
“Well, you see, I uh, kind of like somepony.” Rainbow said somewhat nervously.
“Really? Who is it?” Twilight asked excitedly.
“Fluttershy.” Rainbow said as she tried not to make eye contact with her purple friend. Although most where, not everypony was ok with gays in Ponyville.
“Oh,” Twilight finally said after taking a moment to collect her thoughts, “Well I think it’s cute that you have a crush on Fluttershy.”
“Yeah, sure. So what do you think I should do? I really like Fluttershy and I want to tell her how I feel, I’m just not sure how she’ll take it, you know?” Rainbow said deeply thinking what she could do.
“Hold on, I think I have some books around here som-“
“No, no, no Twilight,” Rainbow interrupted her, “I don’t want any books, I just want your advice.”
“Well,” Twilight began as she scratched her chin with her hoof, “All I can really think of is to just tell her and hope for the best. Fluttershy is sure to understand.”
“I was hoping you wouldn’t say that,” Rainbow said as she hopped off the bed and headed towards the door, “Thanks anyway.”
“Good luck!” Twilight shouted as Rainbow took off for the sky. She made her way back to her sky-bound house and lay on her bed and began to think of what could happen when she tells Futtershy how she feels towards her. What if she doesn’t like me back? What if she never talks to me again? What if she treats me differently? What if she says yes? All of these thoughts were racing through her mind at once. After several minutes of consideration she decided she would go tell Fluttershy first thing in the morning. I’ll just say it plain and simple. Fluttershy, I love you. She said over and over again in her head as she drifted off to sleep. Although she new it wouldn’t be that easy.
When she woke up the next morning, she was, again, very happy after having another wonderful dream of her and Fluttershy together. But as she remembered what she had promised herself she would do today, she felt anything happy. Sure, she was excited to finally be telling her crush the way she felt, but she was just so nervous. Something the brave and courageous pegasus had little experience with therefore she didn’t know what to do about it. Nevertheless, she walked into her bathroom to wash up and battle the knots in her mane. I might as well look good if I’m gonna do this. She thought as she gave a final look in her mirror before heading out the door.
Not long after taking off, she spotted her destination. Fluttershy’s cottage. Where the yellow animal-lover was tending her chickens.
“Hey Fluttershy!” Rainbow shouted as she landed just a few feet behind the timid pony.
Upon hearing the loud shout of her own name, Fluttershy instinctively jumped up and gave one of her signature squeaks.
“It’s just me Flutters,” Rainbow said apologetically after seeing that she had frightened her friend, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Oh, it’s you! Hi Rainbow Dash!” Fluttershy announced once she saw her rainbow maned friend staring at her with a smile. “What brings you here?”
“I have to tell you something really important. Is it ok if we go inside?” Rainbow asked.
“Of course, let’s go in.” Fluttershy responded whilst motioning Rainbow Dash towards her front door.
Once they were inside, Fluttershy sat on her couch and patted the cushion next to her, signaling Rainbow to sit with her.
“So,” Fluttershy began as Rainbow made herself comfortable on the couch, “What did you need to tell me?”
Rainbow Dash collected her thoughts once more as she built up the courage to tell her friend how she felt about her.
“I uh, like you. A lot.” Rainbow said nervously.
“Well I know that.” Fluttershy responded playfully. “We’ve been best friends since we were fillies!”
“No, I mean I have feelings for you. Strong feelings” Rainbow stated as she shyly looked at the ground.
“You mean like, you love me?” Fluttershy asked.
“Yes.”
“Oh,” Fluttershy began, “I had no idea you thought of me that way.”
“Yeah, well you do now. So will you be my special somepony?” Rainbow asked as she bit her lower lip in an attempt to hide how nervous she was.
“No.” Fluttershy responded sternly.
