This is the start of my first entry on him. Last night Equestria was visited by aliens! Aliens! When Nightmare Moon attacked apparently Twilight and her friends had help from a visitor from the stars. They made friends with him and worked together to save the world. How amazing is that?
Pinkie Pie showed me a picture, and I can say I am very intrigued. She also told me that he was ‘the bestest most superific alien friend that I have ever had’. Twilight was surprised that Pinkie was able to get a picture. She wasn’t sure when Pinkie was able to do that. It was hard to gather more information from Pinkie, but she did have the picture which I ‘borrowed’ from her. No I did not steal it, I don’t it is possible to take anything away from Pinkie and she not know it.
Mario, that’s his name, fascinates me. He’s smiling in the picture. He has a nice smile...dat mustache. I want to meet him. I’m going to meet him. I heard there was a chance that he could come back. This is what I’ve been able to gather in a few weeks through questions, overheard conversations, and midnight raids. Rarity does not want to see me again unless I’m buying something (I think I can buy info...will look into later). Fluttershy locks her windows now.
Profile: Name: Mario The closest similarity I could find is the ancient Roan language. Mareion: meaning-warrior

Note: Twilight was floored when she realized she never found out what he was when I asked her. I can relate to her frustrations, she looked like she was about to bang a hole into the table with her head. I would say xenomorph, but that just sounds unpleasant and rude.

Coat Color: N/A Note: I found out he doesn’t have any hair. Fluttershy says his skin in smooth and soft. Confirm personally later.

Magic: Yes (ALIEN MAGIC!) Note: From firsthoof accounts he was seen doing powerful fire magic. Mario claims that he can also fly and walk on clouds. Without any wings I’m not sure how. Also claims transformation magic. Symbiotic magic with another alien creature called Luma. Allows him to travel through space.
Special Note: He can share magic. Applejack and Pinkie Pie, who are both earth ponies, were able to use fire spells! Implications are staggering. What else could he share? Mario was seen deflecting magic attacks and magic holds from Nightmare Moon (alicorn level) with ‘spin attack’.
Physical Capabilities: Powerful. Was able to wrestle with a giant manticore’s tail. He is capable of jumping farther and higher than most earth ponies. No known limits of his stamina. Balance and coordination surpasses even the agilest of pegasus. Rainbow Dash claimed to carry him with ease while flying at full speed. Rarity confirms that he is not heavy.
Special Note:Hands Mario does not have hooves. On his forelegs he has appendages he called hands. He wears gloves over them. Also seen on a Minotaur, but Mario’s hands appear to be more versatile. Fluttershy claimed that he scratched her behind the ears. Pinkie Pie apparently got a belly rub, both said it felt very nice (must look into personally). Rarity says that when he speaks he uses his hands to emphasize his words. Twilight said he used his hands when performing magic. Rainbow Dash said that she noticed his hands were capable of rapid independent movements of each other. Apparently Mario was able to use them in combat efficiently and she noted him using grapples, throws, punches, and chops. Applejack said that they look useful for his job. Speaking of.
Occupation: Plumber Yes, a plumber. Our first intergalactic alien is a plumber. There is actually more going on here. According from the others he identifies himself as a plumber, but in reality he has multiple talents. Rarity said he was more like a knight.
Origins: This is not common knowledge and if this journal is found I will be in a lot of trouble. According to something Princess Celestia said Mario is a ‘Star Child’. This is not a species name like I first thought but some kind of chosen status. Something related to a ‘Power Star’. No info on what that is. Pinkie Pie mentioned that he came on a spaceship with a bunch of friends. Are they like him or they different aliens? I want to know!
Unknown Element: Mario spoke Equestrian. This does not make any sense. Only possible explanation is magic. OR we had a connection a long time ago in the past that is covered up by the current regime. Strange that Princess does not cover up this case of alien contact...
This obsession is really driving me crazy. My roommate, you know the really passionate one, has found something else to latch on to. That mare is all kinds of extremes. Either not interested in the slightest or fanatical devotion. It has gotten her in trouble a lot. Remember last year when the author of the Daring Doo series put a restraining order on her? Or how she’s forever banned from miming around the royal guards? Her many attempts to win the Quiet Game Championships. I think the best she always got second; I don’t know who beat her all those times. I swear her great-grandmother must have been a seapony with how maniac she is. Not me of course.
Now we have that alien that visited about a month ago. Usually her obsessions don’t last this long (though long enough to cause problems). I saw the picture that she still hasn’t returned to Pinkie and the alien looks odd. There are enough similarities to us ponies that make the differences all the more off. Lyra is planning something around this guy, and it shows. She is currently special blend of lethargic and overly hyper that is only the result of all-nighters doing nothing but work to her latest favorite thing. It’s hard to have a normal conversation with her now. At least most of her research doesn’t leak outside of her room.
I really wish she would grow up, but I have to be realistic. She was always nutty as a filly. I wonder if those Unicorns up in Canterlot get enough air for what little brain cells they have, didn't do her any favors when she went to school there. However, nothing is more relaxing then when she sets everything down and plays some music. I must confess Diary; even though her cutie mark is a lyre I enjoy her trumpet music a little bit more. She must never know. Musicians are little moody when their favorite instrument is belittled. Such a silly little sister.
Scientific Name: Nokonoko cumulus Note: I’m not entirely sure if subject is an actual species so naming it might be conjecture. Alien species’ names are subject to change until further evidence. Mario called it a Lakitu’s Cloud.

Magic: Pegasus (altered) Note: Unicorns and Earth ponies are capable of interacting with subject unlike with other clouds. Can use subject to form precipitation and lightening like with regular Equestrian cloud.
Subject is equipped with transcendental space pockets. User can switch between spaces to access two different pouches. No known capacity limit. When subject was first found one pouch held a large cluster of spiky eggs that are in actuality spiky snapping turtles. The other pouch held a fishing rod, a camera, and a traffic light.
Physical Capabilities:
Has same texture and composition of a normal cloud, but is hardier and can resist falling apart at high speeds. Subject supports over 200 kilos of additional weight before strain and detriment to mobility. Can travel past 90 kilometers per hour at max for a short time. If pulled apart or flattened subject can reform itself. Can be forced in a smaller space though the subject shows obvious signs of discomfort.
Mental Capabilities:
Intelligence is the equivalent of a trained pet. Understands Equestrian speech and writing. Can communicate with simple gestures and facial expressions. Is capable of simple mathematics and may be able to be trained to a higher level. Forms a close bond with subject’s owner Rainbow Dash.
Origins:
Confirm to be extraterrestrial by subject. It is unknown if subject is an alien species or a weapon construction created by the Koopa race. It is associated with Koopas, but it doesn’t seem to share their aggressive nature. Unknown if this subject is a special case or all Nokonoko cumulus have the same mindset.
Personal Notes:
I believe my first encounter with subject was during the first attack from the Koopa invasion. Outside the castle holding the Elements of Harmony, my friends and I were attacked by a group of Koopas. Some of them were riding clouds just like Stratus. I do not know if Stratus was among those clouds, but he did appear after the invasion force left. He was found and befriended by Rainbow Dash a couple months after that. Mario was able to confirm that it was not a native cloud. Stratus has a simple demeanor and is rather friendly towards everypony. It also has a very strong connection with Rainbow Dash. It usually shares her feelings and is very eager to listen to whatever she has to say. Being nuzzled by it is very nice.
Day: X/Y Month: ♫ Starry Today was great, diary! Remember that talking horse that got curb stomped by Mario? Turns out she's really useful for princess kidnapping schemes. Plan went off without a hitch and she took the brunt of Mario's attention. What a trooper. This princess is another horse. She's a little on the scrawny side, but she has a funny speech impediment. So now I have two princesses! Things are looking up. Even if Mario is still a pain in the shell.
The more I research it the more frightened I become, and grateful for getting out of that swamp alive. Applejack's statement should have clued me in on the nature of the swamp when we first found it. It is rather laypony to say, but that place is evil. I watched all of my friends succumb to depression and self-loathing, yet I didn't care. I was under the spell like they were. The apathy is soul binding.
The spell creeps in your mind unnoticed, I was fighting against the slog of mud holding me so I never felt it coming until it was too late. I doubted my abilities, that was the first step. Easy after a failed spell. Don't ever lose that first fight, it makes your downfall come that much faster. Panic sets in to make everything that much more dire. You fight fruitlessly against yourself while the swamp slowly consumes you. The downward spiral dragged me until the your will is eaten away. If Mario hadn't been there, I shudder to think the end.
History on the Swamp of Sadness had confirm my suspicion that it is not a natural location. Books from completely different civilizations claim different locations, but it is not multiple swamps with the same name. I have reason to believe it moves from one place to another, though I have the advantage of having access to all of this source material to say this. Illustrators share details, eyewitnesses have similar testimonies, and the bones recovered I can trace to different worlds. Equines seem to be a common victim, both animal and sapient. The number of souls lost is incalculable.
