While building a housing development in Zephyr Heights, ancient ruins are discovered. It is believed they are the ruins of the first castle of Zephyr Heights. The Mane 5 including Sprout and Misty discover the true story of the First Ruler. Changing everything the Royal Family of Zephyr Heights believed about their origins.
It was a nice afternoon in Maretime Bay. Sunny was selling her smoothies, Hitch was patrolling the town with his son Sparky, and Izzy was decorating a new school for the fillies and colts. Pipp was at Mane Melody giving stylish hairdos to ponies, while Zipp and Misty were archiving Sunny's collection.
Zipp had asked Sunny if she wanted to archive her father's collection of documents to the CanterNet for future generations to learn from. Misty had agreed to help as she had nothing to do that day.
While they were finishing up the final uploads, Zipp got a surprising text. It was her mother Queen Haven. Huh, that's a first she thought to herself. She slightly chucked in amusement as Zipp remembered that her mother was horrible at texting and would usually send Cloudpuff to give them the most confusing messages she has ever read. But pushing that thought aside she decided to read the message which surprised her.
Hi sweetie, I hope your doing well. I know its been a while since we talked. Don't worry its not about the pregnancy. But I have some very interesting new for you and your friends. When we were building a new tourism district for the city we found some ruins, Zipp was starting to feel her detective senses tingling as she read the message But not just any ruins, as based on some of the items found around the site, we believe that it is the first royal castle of Zephyr Heights, Llum Guia. After Zipp read the message she felt a mix of emotions. She felt exited that there was the answer about the first castle and what mysteries it can hold, surprised it was nearby after many years, and worried what little could remain and what can be lost knowledge forever.
"Zipp, I finished the documents in Sunny's collection," Misty hoofed tapped Zipp to get her attention. "What do we do next?" she asked.
Zipp was taken out of her thoughts and looked at Misty. It was funny to Zipp it wasn't long ago she met Misty. She was first suspicious and as time went on they were close until it was revealed she was a minion of Opaline. It was horrifying that they were close to losing Sparky. But after amending they were on good terms until it was found out Alphabittle was the father of Misty. It was a confusing few weeks about how it would go as Queen Haven was dating Alphabittle and they were planning to get married. Zipp started to feel a sisterly bond with Misty and sees her as one. Zipp also knew that there would be a new addition to their dynamic family in a few months.
"I think we should get the group together and get a bite," Zipp put her hoof on Misty's shoulder, "Also I have something to tell the group as it may be important", Zipp explained.
Zipp pulled out her phone and texted everypony to meet up at the Gazebo in one hour as she had some breaking news to explain to them.
One Hour Later
Everypony had met up at the Gazebo in the town square. Zipp, Pipp, Misty, Izzy, and Sunny were at the designated location. "Hey do you know where is Hitch is?" asked Sunny. As she finished her question a familiar voice was heard across the street. "Sorry everypony", Hitch panted, "Had to drop off Sparky at Gandma Figgy's for the day" .
Now that everyone was here Zipp was now ready to explain what was going on. "Alright before I explain what is going on do you guys have a guess what I have to say?"
Everypony besides Zipp had no clue what was going on but guessed to their abilities. "Hmm let me guess," Sunny hoofed taped her chin, "A new friend?" Zipp shook her head no
"A new Unicycling project?" Izzy squealed. "Wait don't tell me," Hitch had sparkles in his eyes, "New laws for Zephyr Heights? I still haven't gotten that law book you promised"
"You finally got a job?" Pipp said. Zipp wasn't amused. "Fuck you Pipp, your an asshole."
Everypony else gave Pipp dirty looks. "Heh heh heh sorry sis." Pipp laughed nervously. "I thought you accepted Hitch's offer to become his deputy."
Zipp understood what her sister meant she still was a bit pissed. " Don't be a cunt again sis. I'll make you regret it" Zipp stared at Pipp. "But to answer your question, I'm still on the fence about it as Mom's pregnant and I don't know if I have to take her place for when she gives birth and all". Zipp gave a small shrug.
"But back to the main point," Zipp said. I brought you all here today because something incredible just happened at Zephyr Heights". Zipp was starting to get a bit gleeful. "Mom had texted me that they might have found the first castle of Zephyr Heights."
After Zipp had told the news to everypony it was silence. Silence as the ocean breeze blew by, other ponies going about their day, and the birds chirping. After a few seconds Sunny broke the silence "Your not fucking joking right," she was shocked.
Zipp had told Sunny the origin of the First Ruler. Who was said have been able to fly when the magic was gone and they were able to unite Pegasus kind together in those times of hardship. Zipp also said that there are no surviving documents or paintings of the First Ruler looked like. The only known description of the first ruler was that they had Scarlet colored eyes which was said to put ponies into fear when they stared at the First Ruler. Legend says that, every few generations the Scarlet eyes would be passed down to the descendants of the First Ruler. To whoever has the eyes, they would be the ones to unite and destroy rebellions in times of unrest.
"I am not joking Sunny they believe that they found the castle and want us to join the excavation," Zipp showed everypony the message Queen Haven sent. "Llum Guia, what does that mean?" Hitch said confused. "Didn't mom say that name mean Guiding Light or something,"Pipp butted in.
"Yes your right Pipp it means Guiding Light," Zipp nodded. "What was the meaning behind the name?" Misty said. After a few seconds Zipp took a breath and said, "The answer is unfortunately unknown. Misty, as there is very few surviving records from that time and the meaning behind the castle name is lost to us."
"The only reason that the name is known is from a decree that mentioned that castle being moved to today's location," Zipp explained. "So that is why I want to invite you guys as this could be a lost chapter of history being unearthed." Zipp extended her hoof. "So will you guys join me?"
After a few seconds everypony put their hooves out in agreement. Sunny looked at Zipp. "Lets do this together."
After everypony had agreed to join Zipp they started to make plans.
They would leave tomorrow morning to get to the ruins. Zipp texted her mother that they would arrive tomorrow. After Haven responded Zipp went to the left to the Crystal Brighthouse. On her way there she ran into Misty. "Hey Zipp, can I ask you something?" Misty asked.
"Sure, what do you need?", Zipp responded. Misty seemed to have a slight blush forming. "Is it ok if Sprout comes with us?" Zipp smiled, "Sure he can come along. The more ponies the better".
Sprout Cloverleaf, the former deputy of Maretime Bay. He was somehow able to turn Maretime Bay into a dictatorship. But after the whole reunification of ponykind and his sad defeat. He lost mostly everything, from his job and to his pride. He's a mommy's boy for sure. But he really knows to tinker with technology. So after he was fired, Sprout was hired as a engineer for the Maretime Bay branch of PONY Technologies.
He and Misty have surprisingly a lot in common, from overcontrolling mothers to being betrayers. So it was almost destiny that they became best friends. But to Zipp it seemed obvious that Misty have some feelings for Sprout. She can't really tell guys emotions as they are complicated. But she knows that Misty will thank her later.
After Misty ran off, probably went to telling Sprout that he can come, Zipp continued her journey home. It was a cool sunset over the small beach town. The stars shined their beauty as always. The ocean breeze blowing that familiar salty sent, and the owls making hoots to welcome the night. Zipp was glad that she came to Maretime Bay for the new adventure, friends and Hitch.
As Zipp entered the Crystal Brighthouse she saw a few suitcases piled to one corner of the living room. Probably the others finished packing for tomorrows journey. It reminded Zipp that she needed to pack for tomorrow also. She went to her room and saw Pipp sound asleep. Pipp was missing her teddy bear as she had her hooves extended mumbling "baa-baa,,,,where is baa baa". Zipp noticed the bear on the floor and gave it to Pipp which calmed her down.
After that, Zipp grabbed her suitcase deciding what items to take on the trip.
After a few moments Zipp decided to take her notebook, first-aid kit, camera, snacks, and her high tech goggles. While a experimental piece of tech, it has some of the most advanced features to date. From a real-time criminal database, DNA reader, night vision, and Flappy Pegasus. While taking it may be risky, Zipp had a feeling it would help her.
As Zipp finished packing her items she was staring to feel sleepy. So she decided to hit the hay. As she was laying down she couldn't stop smiling. She new that this could be the greatest adventure she and her friends have done in a while.
As she kept thinking, she felt her eyes drooping. Zipp couldn't keep her eyes open anymore as she drifted off to sleep.
Maretime Bay: Morning
The sun had just risen over the beach town. The chirps of birds were the first to awake in Maretime Bay. It seemed like a normal-BEEP BEEP BEEP. The sound of an alarm clock pierced the Crystal Brighthouse. Zipp quickly woke up in a hurry as today was the day they get to see the ruins. As she jumped off the bed. She grabbed her suitcase and headed downstairs.
As she arrived downstairs she saw the rest of gang making final preparations for the journey. "Morin' everypony", Zipp waved her hoof at everyone. "Slept great!", Sunny cheered. As everyone was grabbing their bags Zipp decided to make a quick headcount to make sure everyone was there.
Zipp saw Sunny taking one of fathers old books. She couldn't see which one but she new Sunny was here. Zipp turned her head and saw Izzy bouncing up and down. Ok there's two, She thought to herself. Zipp sees Hitch and Sparky playing Checkers. With Sparky on the winning streak. Sparky has been known to be a smart dragon for his age. He has been a wild ride for everypony but a fun ride.
Hitch noticed Zipp looking at him and waved. "Oh right almost forgot to ask" Hitch quickly remembered. "What is it?" Zipp said. "Is it fine Sparky stays at the place daycare while were at the site for his safety?"
"Sure he can." Zipp responded. "Thank you Zippy" Hitch said before closing his mouth in embarrassment. Zipp had heard what he said but didn't respond as she blushed to what he said. They stared at each other for a few seconds before laughing together. They obviously had feelings for each other but neither had approached to ask first. As they were finishing laughing Zipp spoke up. "Man, that was a chuckle alright meet you at the Marestream". Hitch nodded as he lost the checkers game to Sparky.
Zipp then saw her sister Pipp getting some stringy cheese as a quick morning snack. After that, Zipp looked around the bottom floor trying to find Misty. As Zipp was about to call her name she heard the door open.
"Sorry were late everypony", Misty was panting as she was holding a suitcase and someone behind her. "I was helping Sprout with his Rolly-Polly Pizza Balls". Zipp wanted to laugh at the funny soundingf innuendo but she heard a second voice. "I second her, and no we didn't do that thing called bed games". As the second figure walked in Zipp recognized him as Sprout .
Sprout was also carrying a suitcase. But he also had a portable cooler with a delicious smell. "Don't worry everypony, as Misty said I've made my Rolly-Polly Pizza Balls." He had a joyous expression on his face. "Aren't his balls the greatest." Misty smiled innocently.
Everypony looked at Misty with shock and embarrassment espically Sprout. As his blush was brighter than his coat. Misty was wondering why everypony gave her the weird looks until she realized what she said.
Misty started to turn very red, almost rivaling Sprout in color. It was silence until Sprout started to laugh. Which in turn made everypony laugh, including Misty.
Misty sighed in relief as Sprout saved her from embarrassment and no one Misty may have not been talking about the pizza balls.
After the laugh Sprout continued the conversation they were having, "That was funny but let's continue. I've brought mommy's homemade Watermelon Strawberry Lemonade, some candy, and that bean-moss jam your mom wanted for her cravings."
Zipp and Pipp looked at the last item for their mother as disgusting they knew it was for the pregnancy and their mother would be happy.
As everypony looked at each other, Zipp motioned that it was time to leave and head to Zephyr Heights. Everyone grabbed their items and headed to the Marestream they couldn't hold back their excitement for today.
As they were putting their luggage away, Zipp had activated the Marestream's controls. As she was putting the coordinates to the ruins she looked at everyone buckled in and gave one final message.
The trip had surprisingly gone smoothly for the Marestream so far. The weather had been a surprising calm. Which shocked everypony as when they would usually journey with the Marestream, it would be bad weather all of the time.
Hopefully this adventure would be a nice one.
This was Sprout's first time outside of Maretime Bay. He remembered as a foal that anything outside of Maretime Bay was seen as uncharted lands. He was told of the mind melting lasers of the unicorns or the foal-eating pegasi. All of those lies intertwined into his mind and made him very paranoid. He made dumb choices which almost costed the life of one of his friends because of the propaganda put into his mind.
Even though he was forgiven and accepted back to Maretime Bay, Sprout felt like an outcast and felt alone, until he met Misty.
Meeting Misty felt like a chance encounter for Spout. Misty has a very similar story to him, besides her adoptive mother being a alicorn. Ever since meeting her, Spout has forgiven himself and as been trying to improve his relationship with the ponies around him. He also has been dating Misty since that day.
It was awkward when Alphabittle and Misty reunited again. He thought he was going to take her away like Opaline had done. But he has come around and sees Spout as a perfect coltfriend for Misty. Spout hopes this will be the day he asks the question to her when the time is right.
Marestream
The group have been flying for about an hour. But they knew that they were close to Zephyr Heights as they can see the large buildings that gives the city its shape.
"Alright everypony", Zipp said with the Marestream's speakers ,"Were on approach to Zephyr Heights and we ask all passengers to buckle up on our landing". After the message ended everypony started to buckle up as they approach the landing pad on the royal palace.
Zipp kept a steady pace as the prepared to land. She has done these many times before and she knew it was be a breeze as the weather was surprisingly calm. Maybe they will have a great day today.
Zipp was calm as she leveled out the Marestream and felt the light bump as the wheels touched the ground indicating her success. After she turned off the Marestream she turned to her friends and gave a small nod, "We have arrived everypony, now lets get this adventure started". After Zipp said this, everypony started to leave the Marestream, starting thier journey to explore those ruins.
The Royal Palace
Two royal guards started to approach the group. The guard to their right was a cyan pegasus stallion, while the guard to their left was a violet mare. What was their names again?, thought Sunny as she look at them. "Hi Zoom, hey Thunder, has mom been", Pipp said. Zoom and Thunder gave a quick glance and looked back at Pipp. "To be honest, the queen has put us through the ringer especially Zoom", said Thunder. Zoom lowered her head and nodded in agreement. "Yup", Zoom said, "Especially when she has her mood swings and needs a mare to talk to". "But she has gave me and Thunder great advice, especially since I found out" , as Zoom rubbed her stomach.
Pipp gave a soft smile and gave Zoom and Thunder a look of reassurance. "Hope the foal does well", Pipp said.
After that conversation Zoom and Thunder motioned everypony to enter the castle. As the group walked in Zipp and Pipp recollected about their childhoods growing up in the castle. They remembered the same halls they caused chaos to their mother those years ago. From their happiest and to their saddest they were glad to be back, at least for this one day.
Sprout had never been to Zephyr Heights before. He's only seen it from Pipp's streams or the recollections that Misty always told him. But now being here was excited to be here. For him the royal palace sold him the city already, but knowing what it lead to just made him jump in exactment and the sisters noticed.
"So, you like the place?', Zipp said. "I really do", Sprout responded, "How was it like growing up here, with all of these guards and fancy items you have?'. Zipp's expression waned a little, "For me it was like a cage. Mostly because we had no magic and couldn't fly". Zipp adjusted her hair a little, "I would remember all of these stores mom would tell me and Pipp". "She would tell us the legend of the First Ruler, and how she could still fly after all of the pegasi lost their ability to fly". Zipp gave a small smile, "The First Ruler was a beacon of hope and now that we may have found her castle makes me glad for those stories".
Pipp then interrupted, "Were at mom's door everypony look your best". As the group stopped Zoom and Thunder gave a small knock on the magenta door. "Your royal highness, Princess Zipp, Pipp and here friends are here to meet you", Thunder said. "All right tell them to come in", said another voice on the other side of the door.
Zoom opened the door and the group entered the room. The room was modest at best. There was a queen sized bed on the right side of the room, a small desk with papers on the left side of the room and a large T.V. on the wall.
In the middle of the room there was a pony waiting for them.
This pony was in their late 30's to early 40's. This pony was obviously a mare. She had a pink fur coat with grey and purple mane color. A glaring detail was that she was pregnant, mostly at the end of her pregnancy. The final dental was she was wearing a large crown with a purple jewel. This pony was Queen Haven, ruler of Zephyr Heights.
Queen Haven then gave a small smile, "Zipp, Pipp, how are my daughters doing at this time". "Hey mom how has your pregnancy been?", said Zipp. Both princesses approached thier mother and gave her a small hug."Well besides forgetting how heavy the foal is and putting Alphie through the ringer, its been great. ", Haven said
"You still don't know the foals gender?", Pipp said. "Well we both wanted it to be a surprise", Haven quickly answered.
Pipp then gave a small nod and Haven noticed the others in the room, "Oh hello there, sorry I didn't notice you guys, I'm glad you came", Haven responded.
As everyypony started to get comfortable in the room Haven brought out a map of Zephyr Heights. "Alright if you don't remember why I've told you to come here, this is a possibly history development we may have found, do you know what were talking about" , Haven said giving everypony a glance. Sunny then raised her hoof to answer her question. "It was you guys possibly finding the ruins of an ancient castle, correct?", Sunny said. Haven nodded to conform Sunny's answer . Haven then pointed at a area of Zephyr Heights to gave more explanation.
"As you know, ever since ponykind has reunited there has been a large population influx in Zephyr Heights. So the city had decided to build on the demolished lot that once held.......the Bucephalus", Pipp, Zipp, & Haven dropped their ears when the last word was said. Which got the rest of the groups attention. "Haven what do you mean Bucephalus?", Sunny asked innocently. Haven then raised her head and looked at her. "It was a nightclub that burned down 18 years ago", she said in a melancholy voice. It caused the others to gasp while Pipp and Zipp were silent.
"Was everypony okay?" asked Izzy. Haven shook her head slowly. "No, I was there that day." Haven started to choke up, "I heard so many screams. Ponies crying for their family and friends" Everypony was either in shock or in tears. "We lost 435 that day, including my first husband" Haven started to tear up. "Rex" Sniff "I wish you were here", After that Haven started to cry. Which caused Pipp and Zipp to hug their mother in a soft cry.
"That is horrible", said Misty sniffling as she was hugging Sprout who was also sniffling. Hitch didn't have any emotion as he was still processing was was said. Izzy had walked over to Pipp, Zipp, & Haven crying along with them. But Sunny took it the hardest as losing a parental figure was all to familiar to her.
Time seemed to be frozen in that moment but, somehow, the other went over to Haven and the sisters to console them. While it happened many years ago, the scars still haven't healed.
"Here", Sprout said holding a small container that held lemonade, "This should make you feel better". Haven looked at the pink drink and took it from his hooves. "Thank you", she softly said as she drunk the lemonade. After drinking she took a couple of breaths. "I'm sorry you had to see that" she said as she was wiping her tears. "It never gets any easier after so long".
A few moments later everypony seemed calm even though they were still feeling a sad. "Anyways as were surveying the land we something interesting". "What was it?", asked Hitch. "What we found were coins and a armor set". Pipp then gave a slightly confused look at her mother, "Mom, not to be rude, but don't we have ancient armor sets at the Zephyr Heights History Museum?"
Haven then quickly replied, "Well that's what we thought at first but what gave it away was the design of the coins." Haven then pulled out two coins, "The one on the right is the one of King Artemis while this on is of an unknown ruler. We initially thought it was one of the earlier monarchs of Zephyr Heights based on the more early coin design., but there wasn't a match in out databases." Zipp started to write down notes. "Then we decided to date the armor to see how it was, and the results were shocking." Haven then shuffled her chair, "The armor is believed the be 1000 years old."
With that result everypony was shocked to know the age of these artifacts. Haven then continued, "But the kicker was that the first name of any ruler of Zephyr Heights was King Windy Ventosos who was the second monarch. That only recorded back to 900 years, and any records from those 100 years were lost." Haven gave everypony a look. "This means that we might have a possibly have some evidence on who the first ruler was".
Pipp then asked a question, "Ok, do you want us to go to the site and explore it"? Haven gave Pipp a nod. "Yes we have been excavating the area for a few days now and we have found some rooms which are castle like in nature so the evidence is pretty high". Haven then gave some lanyards to the group. "What are these, their designs are sparkletastic", shouted Izzy .
Haven gave a small chuckle and answered, "Well since construction was halted, archeology teams have came to record the site". "You will need these to have access.", Haven then gave a small gesture to the door, "I wish you the best luck and contact me if you need help and don't forget to send pictures".
"We will thanks", said Zipp. As everypony was about to leave Hitch walked up to Haven. "Oh I almost forgot. Would you be able to watch Sparky"? "Sure Hitch, I am here to help." Haven then leaned to Hitch's ear, "Don't worry you have my blessing". Haven gave a wink and Hitch was starting to blush. "W..eee....lll lets start getting to the Artemis District won't we", Hitch stammered.
After that everyone left Haven's room starting this new adventure. They were glad that this could be history in the making.
The Artemis District is one of the older districts in Zephyr Heights. Having been around since the beginning of the city. As the group walks through West Scarlet Road. they can see low density housing with mom and pop shops around the street form end to end. The smells of the restaurants opened for the lunch rush of the teenagers, adult, and elderly ponies of this small neighborhood.
"Wow", said Izzy, "The vibe is almost like Bridlewood back home, minus the sad ponies around, and the tall buildings in the skyline". Izzy was bouncing up and down getting enthralled at the shops and meeting new faces while the others were ahead of her, reaching for their final destination.
Sprout was eating the last of his pizza balls, sharing with MIsty. "Not to be rude", he interjected swallowing the last of his snack, "but are we there yet"? The royal sisters looked back at Sprout and gave a quick nod. "Were almost there Sprout", Pipp answered. Zipp then quickly interjected, "Yeah , its just around the corner. So well be there in the next few minutes". After Sprout the answers he nodded and went back to looking at Misty.
The group were at the end of West Scarlet Road which then met to become Neigh Avenue. Zipp and Pipp were looking at a map on their phones to see if they were heading in the right direction. After a few seconds they both nod to look back at the group. "Alright everypony were going to head down Neigh Avenue and then see a empty lot which should be our destination" Pipp, explained. Everypony gave a nod and walked down Neigh Avenue.
After walking for about two blocks, the group stop at what seemed to be a construction site with cranes, steel beams, and trucks around. But off to the side there was a couple of vans that had the logo for the National Museum of Zephyr Heights on its side.
"Ok everypony", Zipp said, "were here, mom said that we need to look for Nimble Force to get our badges for the site" Zipp gave look of assurance to the group. After a few seconds everyone nodded in agreement.
As they approached the side everypony saw a small plaque. Which a hour earlier everpony remembered what Haven had told them why the site was abandoned.
The plaque contained the following, Bucephalus Nightclub Fire Memorial; On March 7, 2005, 345 souls were lost when the Bucephalus Nightclub, in the Artemis District, went up in flames. It was the worst loss of life in modern Zephyr Heights history while over 600 were injured. The tragedy was caused by a electrical spark. The poor design of the building and improper poor repair of the sprinklers, locked exits, fed into the caused panic which lead to a horrific crush at the entrance of the nightclub. This plaque is erected by her Royal Majesty Queen Haven Glow for King Rex IV and for the other 344 lost in the fire
The plaque contained all the names of those lost from 15 to 73 years old. Including one Rex Glow IV: 32 who was the King of Zephyr Heights,
The cries felt like it came from the soul as the sisters remember how their mother and father were going to that club for a night out and later finding out that their father died trying to save others in the fire. The days after changed paths for the sisters Pipp became more attached to games, and music as her escape to reality, while Zipp's relationships with her family rifted as she blamed herself and wanted to become a investigator to make sure a tragedy like that never happened again. Nearly 20 years had past and Zipp and Pipp's relationship was stronger since that day but the emotions made them feel helpless as that day.
"Hold on me and Pipp need to get something", Zipp said. After that, they both flew down West Scarlet Road where the group was earlier. A few minutes later Pipp and Zipp were holding some items in thier hooves. Pipp had a flower bouquet which had white, red, and purple Lotus flowers, while Zipp had a Phoenix plushy. After landing Zipp layed the plushy on the plaque which made it overlook the memorial, while Pipp placed the Lotuses where the other flower were.
The sisters smiled and looked back at the group, "Thank you", Pipp said. "I think without you guys I would have been a lost filly", Zipp answered. Pipp then pulled out her phone and took a picture of the items they placed on the plaque.
"I know mom would love what we did", Pipp responded. After sending the image, Pipp got a text message, Thank you. I know your father would be proud of you and I wish you luck. Pipp and Zipp smiled at the message as they motioned to the group. "Are we ready", Zipp asked. "The group put their hooves out as a response. The sisters looked at the hooves and put their own hooves in. "Hoof to Heart", everypony shouted in a cheer. As they enter the site unknowingly changing what they knew about Equestria as a whole.
The site of the Bucephalus was located on a large lot of land in the Artemis District of Zephyr Heights. The size of the plot was about 30 acres from the street to the base of the mountains. Before it was a nightclub, it was originally a factory that manufactured hayburger buns. After the factory closed, if was bought by two ponies, Luck Hooves and Jane Filly, who saw it as a prime grounds for a nightclub.
When the Bucephalus opened in 1989, it was a massive hit with the locals as many famous music artists would headline the club. From bands like Electric Blue and to singers like Platinum Jubilee.
The Bucephalus would remain popular for many years as a popular site until March 7, 2005.
On the day of the fire it aas Rock n Roll night. Which was always a popular event and most of the club would be sold out.
But rumors had spread earlier that week that the monarchs of Zephyr Heights, King Rex IV and Queen Haven would be at the club to be surprise guests. Because of the rumors, as many as 1,000 ponies went into the nightclub for a chance to see the monarchs. Later on it woulbe confirmed that they were in the club that night.
As the 1,000 ponies were in the club, hundreds of others were outside as the club as it was overfilled above the listed capacity. Which was 850 for a fully booked event in the club.
During the second song played by the headliner Electric Blue, a connection to a speaker exploded and sparks ignited the curtain next to the stage.
In a less than 1 minute the entire dance floor was up in smoke as the club used flammable materials for walls and decorations. The sprinkler system didn't activate because of improper repair work done by the owners.
Much of the horrific event was captured on camera by paparazzies and news crews as they were there for the royal monarchs, also some of the event was captured by others outside as a large group of ponies were waiting outside at the full venue.
As ponies were panicking in the venue many rushed to the entrance as smoke filled the venue. Others tried smashing windows and other doors to their freedom. Some of them were lucky, while others weren't. During the rush to the entrance a horrific crush occurred at the entrance of the club. About 115 ponies were trapped on top another as others outside tried to free the ones that were trapped.
During the chaos the monarchs did escape, but King Rex new that others needed help as they were beacons of hope to the citizens'. So in a act of bravery, he rushed back into the club. He was responsible for saving about 15 ponies during the event. King Rex would unfortunately never make it back on his final trek around the club. He would be found deceased in the kitchen shielding a 10 year old foal who had snuck in. The foal would survive because of his sacrifice.
In total 345 would die in the fire and 600 injured mainly from smoke inhalation. Around 130 victims were found around the entrance area in a heap and only 3 were pulled alive as the bodies shielded them from the smoke and flames. While the rest would be scattered around the club from the dance floor to the bathrooms. The ages of the victims varied. They were as old as 73 while the youngest was a 15 year old, who snuck in the club undetected. As many as 60 underage foals from 10 to 17 years had sneaked in through open windows and unmarked doors to see the monarchs. Most would survive as they escaped from the ways they entered in.
Some victims were famous at the time. Besides King Rex IV who's death hit the entire city and the royal family. Electric Blue's manager Brownie Strings would pass away in the fire.
The owners of the Bucephalus Nightclub, Lucky Hooves, and Jane Filly would also die in the fire. But investigations led them both to be the main ponies responsible for the fire as they never properly repaired the sprinklers, or replaced the flammable materials that made up the building, which would had saved lives, and they never kept the building up to modern code at the time.
The Discovery
After the investigation the building was demolished and a small plaque was erected by the Bucephalus's former location. The Bucephalus only took up 1 acre when the tragedy occurred, so much of the land was believed to be undeveloped for most of its history, until recently.
Legends have been said that the Bucephalus site supposedly had riches like gold and silver from ancient times and was a contender for the site of Ilum Guia, the first castle of Zephyr Heights.
The ground was left undug during the investigation. After the nightclub was demolished, the land had been stuck in limbo for years as nopony new what to do with the land. Some wanted to build a memorial garden, while others wanted to build more housing and shopping developments as that land was some of the last buildable land in the city.
When magic returned to the three tribes, many ponies from Bridlewood and Maretime Bay started to move to Zephyr Heights, which lead to a compromise. The development would happen but at least some of the land would be used to build a permanent memorial to the victims of the fire.
Building had been going smoothly for a few weeks until some remains of bricks were recovered underneath the ground of the site.
Some thought it was from the former nightclub. But test show that these bricks are much older than realized and a new discovery may have been found. Later on similar artifacts like copper coinage that has a portrait of of unknown monarch lead to the possibility that Ilum Guia, might be in this location.
But much more evidence needs to be proven before it can be confirmed.
