After discovering an ancient message from the crystals, that was made by the one and only Princess Twilight Sparkle. Sonic and the Mane 5 head to where it all started and uncover the mystery of how magic disappeared and put the spirits of Equestria´s ancient heroes to peace.
But unbeknownst to the heroes, there is somepony who is lost in this abandoned world. And needs their help.

SONIC ENTERS A NEW GENERATION: LEGEND OF THE ELEMENTS
Maretime Bay:
The morning sun shines brightly onto the small town of Maretime Bay, it has everything a town could need. Nice humble residents, delicious smoothies, a reliable sheriff station, heck there’s even a movie theatre.
But that’s beside the point as all of this unity and friendliness, was achieved by five ponies who have been seen as heroes… somewhat.
There was Sunny Starscout an earth pony the one with the magneta mane, as well as an apricot orange coat.
Then there was Izzy Moonbow who had a dark blue mane, and a lilac coat plus she was a unicorn.
Hey look it’s Hitch Trailblazer another earth pony the sheriff of the town, with an aqua mane and a light amber coat to boot.
Then there is Zipp Storm a pegasus, who recently became a detective had a light blue and red mane with a perfect white coat.
Finally we have Pipp Petals also a pegasus who is the social media and singing expert, with a purple mane and light pink coat attached to her name.
All five of them were great friends, best friends actually. They’ve been through a few adventures together, and have always come out on top but it was only possible with a small help, who had yet to arrive yet.
“Ugh, where is he at now?! I swear it could be the most life-changing thing ever, and he would still be late!” Pipp complained out loud.
“Relax Pipp, not everypony can be on time besides you know how he rolls.” Hitch spoke up making the pop star pegasus turn to face him, with a glare.
“I can’t tell if you meant that as a joke.” Her words made Hitch chuckle.
“As much as that would have been funny, I’m not joking. He does what he thinks suits him, and you have to respect that.” Hitch reminded her.
Sunny finally took part in the conversation. “I understand it and respect it, however he could at least try to get here on time.”
Zipp simply smirked. “Hey let’s not worry about that, we know he’ll show up soon.”
“I wonder what he’s up to right now?” Izzy wondered out loud.
Grassfield:
A giant tree stood tall out in the middle of the field, it bloomed brightly giving life to its surroundings. Standing next to it was a person, no actually it was a hedgehog, with bright red shoes that had golden buckles and green lights on the back, white gloves with a bracelet on the wrist, and blue fur to top it off.
Sonic the Hedgehog was his name and Speed is his Game.
He crouched down into a runner’s position, fingers caressing the ground, the wind whistling a quiet tune. Eyes closed, a confident smile, his head rises up looking straight ahead he was ready.
“Here we… go!” He yelled in triumph blasting forwards leaving the tree behind.
His arms were held behind his back, closed fists trailing with him as his legs moved at a rapid pace, he dashed from one point of the field to another making the grass move from the sudden gust of wind, he even placed his right hand on the ground to drift back towards the tree.
He then made his way around the tree, before blasting off towards a place in the far off distance.
Zephyr Heights:
He ran up the side of the mountain even laughing to himself, his travel up the mountain changed as he ran down one of the many roads of Zephyr Heights, he passed by the many residents who were hit with the gust of wind.
They were all fine and even smiled towards the direction of the hedgehog, he quickly made his way to the castle passing over the top of it. “WOOOOO!!!” He yelled in excitement, managing to gain air time.
He reached the peak of his height before descending, but not before saluting Zoom and Thunder on the way down who did the same. He placed his hands behind his head, crossing his right leg over his left.
He closed his eyes breathing in slowly, when suddenly a ringtone became audible to which he reached into his quills, pulling out his phone. Pipp was ringing him, he smirked as he answered placing the device to his ear.
“Sonic the Hedgehog where are you?! You were supposed, to be here around ten minutes ago!” Pipp’s voice came through making his smirk grow.
“Don’t worry Pippin Pipp, I’m on my way!” He responded.
“You better- wait are you running right now? I can hear the wind loud and clear.” She asked.
“Not running, skydiving! Major difference, anyway see you and the others in a minute!” He called back to her loudly, ending the call before she could respond.
Putting the phone back into his quill he spun around to face the ground, the curve of the mountain was coming up to which he curled into a spindash.
Upon reaching the ground he rocketed straight ahead, a blue trail with red and white streaks followed behind him in a perfectly straight line.
He entered the grassfield again knowing that Maretime Bay was close, so he decided to try a new move he had been practicing. “Okay let’s try it again, hopefully it goes well.”
He began to accelerate concentrating really hard on what he wanted to do, suddenly electricity started to spark on his body as his eyes flashed on and off from emerald and blue.
He gritted his teeth trying to control this newfound power, which he had unlocked a little while ago but ever since then it would seem to randomly activate, or flat out not work at all which caused much annoyance to him.
“Come on! Just a small burst is all I need!” He yelled through his still gritted teeth.
Yet as the sparks of electricity seem to have been reaching that level he wanted, it all faded away which distracted him enough to where he ended up tripping.
(End song)
He fell face first onto the ground groaning. “Dang it, I swear I almost had it that time!” He pushed himself up off the ground standing back on his legs.
“Some things never get any easier.” He muttered bitterly.
He looked up to see Maretime Bay in all its glory, his attention drifted to the giant lighthouse that stood tall with a rainbow beam, shooting into the sky. The Brighthouse.
Without another second to waste he ran towards the structure, ready to go greet his friends for the morning, as he couldn’t wait to see what was in store for them today.
Maretime Bay: Brighthouse
“I can’t believe he’d do something so recklessly, especially today of all times!” Sunny frustratingly shouted.
“Come on Sunny, he already jumped into a hole of the magical abyss. What’s so bad about him skydiving?” Izzy questioned her friend.
“At least he had a reason for doing what he did then, this… this is just stupid! Besides he hasn’t even mastered his new powers, which makes me even more concerned!” Sunny explained to her unicorn friend the others seeming to agree with her.
“I’ve survived much worse than what I did just a few minutes ago, so why should you be concerned at all?” The voice made them all turn to see Sonic, standing next to them with his arms crossed smiling.
“Seriously could you at least be on time when we do this again? Please.” Pipp pleaded, making the hedgehog chuckle.
“Okay, okay, I’ll be here on time. Huh how ironic, I’m the fastest yet I’m here last.” He amused jokingly receiving light laughs in return.
“So what do we have planned today Sunny?” Zipp asked with excitement.
“We’re going to be participating in all sorts of activities, it would be a fun way for us all to understand each others likings.” Her explanation was met with understanding from the others.
“So shall we start or what?!” Izzy exclaimed, making the rest of group cheer.
???:
Meanwhile somewhere else entirely there was a silhouette of a pony with a horn and wings, who was with a bipedal creature with wings conversing with one another. “Listen the crystals have been put back together, we must act now! Cause if we don’t, all of Equestria will fall to her!” The pony reminded her friend.
The bipedal then spoke up. “I understand, but are you sure they’ll be able to stop her? Considering what happened… back then.”
The pony faces her friend. “We weren’t ready, and I couldn’t do it. You know exactly why, don’t you?”
After a few seconds he responded. “Yes I do. I’ll send the message right away.”
“That’s why you’re my number one assistant, I love you Spike.” She smiled.
“I love you too, Twilight.” Spike replied as they both shared a hug before he ran off to complete his task.
Twilight who is an Alicorn frowned sadly, facing towards the big empty table in the middle of the room. “This could decide Equestria’s fate, I just hope we’re not too late to act.”
The group of friends have been having a great time so far, the first activity they did today was try unicycling with Izzy which was pretty fun for them. Izzy may have been a master at the skill, but the others weren’t so bad at it either, well Zipp had a little more trouble with it than the others. “Dang it! I messed up again!” She yelled in frustration, making the others laugh.
Mane Melody:
The second activity they did was try out new hair/mane styles, each of them getting a chance to perform it on the pony or hedgehog who messed with theirs. Sonic got Pipp as his partner, which he got his hair messed with first which by the end looked like an afro.
He smirked as Pipp took a seat, he prepared everything before quickly changing her simple beautiful mane into a Mohawk. She gasped in embarrassment as the others laughed, she faced Sonic with annoyance. “Seriously?!”
“What? Can’t handle the hedgehog charm, and his ways of making hairstyles?” He retorted, making the pegasus blush hard looking completely lost for words.
’Why am I feeling this way? Is it… No! It can’t be it wouldn’t work!’ Pipp thought.
Zipp who watched everything unfold grew a suspicious stare, this was only a fun activity that she actually deep down liked, but her sister was acting weird. Too weird for her liking, she noted to herself that she would ask her later when they were alone.
Sheriff Station:
The group were now taking care of the animals, that Hitch had around the station. It was a hassle at first but it seemed to have clicked, with the group on how to care for them. They also took care of the little green dragon, that slept in a filly crib to them he was like a son they all shared to care.
During the period of time they were caring for the animals, Hitch accidentally tripped crashing into Sunny. Hitch layed on his back with Sunny on top of him, they both locked eyes with one another a blush appearing on both of their faces.
They quickly hopped off one another looking away from each other, this made the others chuckle at their moment. Which in turn made the pair glare at the four other members, but soon they began laughing as well.
Maretime Bay: Smootie Cart
The group then began to sell smoothies with Sunny teaching them, how to make it without problems. Hitch had the most trouble but soon enough got the hang of it, everything was going well until Izzy accidentally dropped a few sparks into one she was making causing a mini explosion.
Causing the group to laugh out loud.
Maretime Bay: Beach
They were now all doing a scavenger hunt that Zipp had set up, all of them were doing their best to find the clues that she had placed. However she noticed Pipp close to Sonic, as they accidentally bumped into each other, the former having a tint on their face.
Zipp watched on her suspicion rising even more than before.
Maretime Bay: Outside
Finally the last activity involved all of them going on a physical run, Sonic leading the group with a smile. The others who followed were feeling great, and were at least glad he wasn’t making them do something ridiculous.
The feeling of freedom was at an all time high, they all enjoyed every second of this activity and day.
Brighthouse:
The six friends all sat inside of their home, smiling with joy as they had just finished the last activity for the day. “Oh my gosh that was so much fun! I’m gonna post all of the photos, I took along the way!” Pipp yelled in excitement.
“Woah, calm down sis. Can’t you not focus on social media for now, we’ve all had so much fun and just need to relax.” Zipp reminded.
Sonic meanwhile relaxed in a comfortable position, when Sunny spoke up. “So how is the new power going? Any progress?” She asked him with hope.
Sonic faced her with a disappointed frown. “Still no control yet, honestly it just decides to work and not work. Plus you remember the last time I tried it, we had a raging pop star attack all of us because her phone turned off.”
Pipp who had been listening to him, frowned annoyed. “I wasn’t that aggressive!”
The hedgehog in turn gave her a deadpanned stare. “You threw Hitch across the living room, created a whip via your blanket sheets, dented some of the walls, tore the couch in half and got kicked my groin… may I go on?”
This made the pegasus blush incredibly hard remembering everything. “Ok, maybe I was a bit too excessive with my actions.” She admitted looking away embarrassed.
“Thank you. But back on the topic, it will be awhile before anything revolutionary happens. So my best guess is that it happens, when it happens.” He concluded with obvious disappointment, as he wanted to have these powers controlled so an accident didn’t happen again.
Suddenly out of nowhere a loud crackle echoed across the Brighthouse, making the majority of the group jump while Sonic simply moved his head towards the noise.
It came from the balcony. “What was that?” Izzy asked scared while looking up as well.
Zipp answered her friend. “I don’t know, but we won’t know unless we check.”
They all nodded in agreement as they stood up making their way to the elevator, they all stood on it as it moved up.
Brighthouse: Balcony
The group arrived up top on the elevator, immediately dispersing to check all of the balcony to make sure that nothing was amiss. But after a few seconds they found absolutely nothing had been tampered with, so what was the cause of the noise?
Hitch then looked at the crystals before gasping silently. “Look!” He alerted the others, as they all looked to where his hoof was pointed.
They all gasped silently as well as the crystals seemed to be sparking, their energy levels felt higher, more powerful, more unknown to them. “Zipp? You didn’t happen to find anything like this during your research, while I was asleep?” Sonic queried the pegasus.
She simply shook her head. “No! This is all new to me as well, it’s something unlike anything I’ve ever seen before!”
She received bored stares from her peers, which made her remember what had happened a month prior. “Ok… maybe not that unlike, still though this is new!”
The sparks leaped of the crystals splashing the ground, like water drops but leaving no lasting impact. Suddenly a static image appeared above the crystals, slowly morphing into a figure of a pony but not just any pony it was… an alicorn.
“Is… is that?” Sunny spoke up lost for words, as the alicorn turned out to be none other than Twilight Sparkle but she looked younger.
“OH MY CELESTIA!!! THATS TWILIGHT SPARKLE HERSELF!!! THE PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF US!!! AHHHHHH!!!” Sunny screeched like a little girl excited for hearth’s warming day.
Zipp annoyed slapped Sunny in the back of the head, with her wing. “Calm down! I know this is exciting, but this could be important!”
As if to respond to her words Twilight spoke. “Dear ponies of the future, I’m Twilight Sparkle which you probably already know, but I come with an important message to deliver you.
“But know that only those who are worthy receive this message and you’ve proven it.
“You’ve restored magic back to normal and reunited the three pony tribes, with that in mind i’m more than willing to put my trust and faith into you.
“Something terrible is coming to Equestria and you’re the only ones who can stop it, I tried to do so many moons ago but my magic wasn’t nearly as powerful as it once was,
“And the only way to stop everything from falling apart was to seal magic away, I didn’t want to make that decision but it was the only way to stall time.
“I was aware that as soon as Magic entered back into the picture, that she’d reawaken ready to continue her plan, which is where all of you come in.
“Her power won’t be as strong and will give you time to prepare a strategy, to stop her once and for all.
“But if you don’t act quickly she’ll regain her true power, and all of Equestria including you will cease to exist.
“Use the power of the unity crystals to transport yourselves to my home, you’ll be able to find everything you need to know about her abilities, and how to counter them.
“Everycreature is counting on you, and we know you won’t let us down. Remember, I’m with you no matter what. Good luck.” Twilight then disappeared as if nothing ever happened.
“Oh my gosh!” Zipp whispered to herself.
“Well you don’t see that everyday, don’t ya!” Sonic joked.
Sunny meanwhile had a different reaction. “THAT WAS HER!!! AND SHE HAD THAT MESSAGE FOR US?!?! THIS IS AMAZING—“
Her excitement was cut short, when Sonic grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her body, breaking her train of thought. “Calm down Sunny-bun! It was one simple message, that randomly appeared conveniently now of all times! Which happens a lot in everything, now that I think about it.”
“A message somepony from thousands of years ago, sent to tell us important information. That’s enough reason to be excited, especially when it’s Twilight Sparkle who sent it.” Sunny retorted with excitement still present in her voice.
Sonic let go of the mare after she’d calmed down, Zipp walked up to her friend with a serious expression. “Look Sunny, I’m floored as well that Twilight herself sent that message. But we must focus on the fact that whatever she warned us about, is bad news.”
Sunny understood what Zipp meant and began to breathe in and out slowly, she regained her calm composure smiling. “Ok I think I’m okay, and your right Zipp. Whoever this villain is could cause problems for all of us.”
“Do you think we should tell everypony about this?” Pipp suggested, which immediately got shot down by Hitch.
“No we shouldn’t, we don’t want to cause panic amongst the citizens of Maretime Bay and beyond. It’s already happened twice before and almost brought us too war with each other, the best course of action would be to keep this under wraps for now.” Hitch explained making the others nod.
“So what do we do first?” Izzy asked bringing up a good question.
Sonic stepped forward smirking. “Okay we were told that we need to use the crystals power, to travel to Twinkie’s home. So our first move would be to prepare, so packing whatever we’ll be needing for this adventure.
“Second is travel to this place we’re headed and come up with a plan, with the third step being to kick her ass and win!” He shouted holding his fist in the air.
The others have him neutral and awkward stares seeming confused, until Zipp spoke up. “That’s it?”
Sonic faced her with a neutral face shrugging. “Yeah, pretty much.”
“I thought it would be more in-depth, like with multiple complex steps that make it impossible to see it coming.” Zipp pointed out.
Sonic however blew a raspberry, waving his finger. “Nah! You see Zipp that’s not how I roll, plus if I know anything it’s that villains always are one step ahead.
“Making you think they knew your plan, when really it was because you thought out the plan so much that you overlooked the smallest thing aka a secret counter move they have planned.
“And because of that, it makes everything I say pointless because any plan we come up with won’t work. So we’re just going to have to go blind, and hope for the best, which is what we do best.”
They all appeared gobsmacked, with Pipp speaking up first. “How are you so good, with these sorts of things?”
Sonic eyed her with a smug smirk. “I thought you already knew, that I have experience with this sort of thing? Or are you really just curious about me?”
This instantly made the pop-star pegasus get flustered, stuttering her words instantly. “W-What?! N-No, it’s just that— you know— it’s different, very different!”
“Yeah I know, but don’t worry we’ll be fine as long as we’re together. Cause nothing can stop you when you have friends, especially best friends… that sound really corny even for me.” He admitted.
“Eh, we’re all used to it by now.” Sunny added.
“Yeah you’re probably right.” Sonic finished.
Izzy then lit up like a Christmas tree. “Hey let’s get moving! Last one to finish getting ready, has to clean the Brighthouse for a whole month!” She then zoomed off towards the elevator.
“What?! No fair Izzy!” Pipp yelled to her friend as everyone else ran for the elevator, spirits at an all time high ready to begin their next adventure.
It had been around twenty minutes since the group had split, to gather what they needed for the trip. Excitement, caution and curiosity plagued each of their minds as they wondered what Twilight’s home would be like.
Considering she was somepony from ancient times, somepony who could keep things in good condition. However the question that plagued their minds the most, was why the message was sent to them now of all times?
Magic had been back for a decent amount of time, so this felt strange but if their was someone bad out there then they would face them.
Sonic who had been prepared and ready to go, was standing by the crystals for eighteen whole minutes tapping his foot at a rapid pace. His arms were crossed, his patience was running thin as the others took their sweet time getting ready.
But after waiting for a long time, the others started arriving from the elevator. “Finally! You all sure took your time, quite literally to get ready!” Sonic groaned still tapping his foot.
The looks he received could’ve withered a field of flowers, as Sunny spoke up. “Well sorry for not being as fast as you!” She retorted annoyed.
“I had to put on my makeup!” Pipp argued which was met with blank stares, from the rest of the group.
She quickly looked away in embarrassment, hiding the red tint on her cheeks. “Okay maybe I took a little too long.”
The rest of them shook their heads in amusement, Sonic then faced Hitch. “So, who did you get to babysit- er foalsit Sparky?”
The sheriff grinned with great confidence. “Don’t worry. I got the best foalsitter in Maretime Bay.”
Sheriff Station: Meanwhile
“Why can’t you stay still!” Posey screamed, chasing down the little green dragon.
Sparky then sneezed from the floating dust that populated the floor, turning said floor into ice causing Posey to slide backwards. “No that’s going backwards!”
She then faced the bookshelf she was about to collide into. “NOOO-“
Crystal Brighthouse: Present
The others looked at Hitch with dumbfounded faces. “Are you sure she’ll be fine, taking care of him?” Sunny questioned Hitch, who simply smiled back at her.
“Of course I’m sure!” His smile slightly faltered for a second.
Sunny simply shook her head. “Okay we’ll trust your words.”
They all then faced the crystals, that floated with a powerful aura radiating off of them. They were ready to go and stop whatever evil awaited them, but there was one small thing that Sonic had to ask.
“How do we travel to this place exactly?” He questioned.
This made the rest of them realise what he meant. “Oh yeah… hold on I think I got it!” Izzy excitedly exclaimed.
She quickly stood on her hind hooves, thrusting her forehooves forward at the crystals. “Teleport Sesame!” She stated boldly.
Abrupt silence followed as she placed her hooves back onto the ground, resuming her usual stance. “Well, I’m out of ideas.” She concluded facing her friends with an innocent smile.
Zipp simply raised a brow. “I’m not sure that’s how it goes Izzy, or if that’s even a real saying.” Izzy faced Zipp with the same smile she was holding.
“You never know Zipp, you have to be prepared for anythinggggg…” she dragged on whispering.
Pipp squinted her eyes at the crystals with curiosity. “Should we touch them?” She suggested but Zipp spoke up.
“No it’s too risky. Even if they bring magic to us all, we don’t know what could happen if we touch them in this state.” She pointed out.
“Doesn’t seem so bad to me.” Sonic added while having his right hand placed on the crystals, making Zipp slap his hand with her wing.
“What are you doing?! Are you trying to get us all hurt?!” She berated making the hedgehog groan loudly.
“Jeez, what’s got you guys so worked up about me doing things like this. It’s natural where I come from.” He stated frowning as if it was a fact that should be known.
Sunny facehoofed glaring at him with annoyance. “You may do it all the time back home, but we’re just not as accustomed to somepony doing something so reckless!”
Sonic smirked her way delivering an innocent whistle from his mouth, which was followed up with a simple clicking of his tongue. “Tsk, Tsk. Sunny my great friend, you and everyone else will just have to accept that it happens. Cause it ain’t leaving anytime soon… remember that.”
The unamused states that he received in return didn’t help his case, as he pinched the bridge of his nose sighing loudly. “Look just stop worrying about me, and let’s focus on how we travel to Twiggie’s home.”
Sunny and Zipp faced each other for a second but nodded, as they refocused back on the crystals not bothering to argue with the hedgehog as it would get them nowhere. “Can you at least, please cut the nickname act! This is Twilight Sparkle we’re talking about!” Sunny requested.
Sonic simply gave a playful look. “Who’s that? Cause I can’t respect anyone’s name if I don’t know enough about ‘em.”
Sunny was about to argue once more, but chose to stop realising he was just having fun. “Well, what could be our way there?”
Zipp looked a little closer seemingly analysing the crystals, they still shined with power and colour. Pipp’s voice then came forth, “Hey, look at the floor!”
They all followed her pointed hoof that they’d missed, seeing the floor light up in different colours with six one for each individual spot. “They match us.” Hitch pointed out.
Zipp faced the sheriff with caution. “Yeah, but we don’t know that exactly.”
Sonic then noticed something on the floor, quickly picking it up with his right hand. “Oh look, instructions on how to teleport! We really are dumb dumbs for missing this!”
The others could only groan loudly. “Seriously?! It was on the floor the whole time?!” Pipp seethed in frustration.
“Eh, you’d get used it after a while.” Sonic flatly answered.
He looked at the instructions and read them to the whole group. “Stand on the colours that match you, it’ll grant you the key to my home.”
With the instruction read out the group of friends, stepped onto their specific spots. Sunny’s being Apricot orange, Izzy’s being lilac, Hitch’s being a very light amber, Zipp’s being white, Pipp’s being pink and Sonic’s being blue.
After a few seconds nothing happened as they stared at each other, wondering what would happen next.
Sonic crossed his arms looking incredibly bored facing the others with a quip ready. “Seems they may have had technical diff-“
He was cut off when a crackle boomed a top the Brighthouse, causing all of them to shift shape and become distorted. Their screams all fading in and out at a rapid pace, and just as the show of lightning and bright lights had reached its peak it ended, and the six friends had disappeared from sight.
Silence reigned over the area leaving no trace of any sort of activity. Nopony in town or anywhere knew what happened, but it would probably be best if they didn’t.

Sunny could only see darkness as she tried to remember, what had happened moments prior. However that all changed when she opened her eyes to see, the ground of a unsaturated and decayed road.
Lifting herself up to stand on her hooves she fully took in the sight around her, seeing the many ancient looking houses. But they were old, rundown and seemed to be breaking from time itself.
She refocused her attention to the sounds of her friends who were standing up groaning, she began helping them regain their balance making sure they didn’t sustain injuries. “Is everypony okay?” She asked for reassurance.
Izzy smiled at her friend with bubbly optimism. “Of course, we’re okay! Look at us! I’m fine, you’re fine, everypony is fine!” She exclaimed with excitement.
Pipp who had managed to finally stand normally, looked around seeing a certain blue hedgehog was missing. “Wait, where’s Sonic?!”
The group all went wide eyed, as they just all now realised he wasn’t with them. Their panicked states would only slightly be toned down, as the sound of electricity from above took their attention.
And out from above Sonic appeared but he was falling, all while yelling all the way down. “WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!”
BOOM
The dust raised as he made contact with ground, the group ran over to his aid and found him with his head stuck in the earth below. More specifically his face.
Zipp and Sunny grabbed hold of him, trying to pry the hedgehog from the ground. Within a few seconds he came out, slowly regaining his balance placing a hand to his forehead.
“Why is it always me falling from the sky, and landing on my face?” He asked himself with a grumble.
Sunny moved in front of Sonic. “Are you okay?” She asked concerned.
Sonic removed his hand from his head smiling. “Aside from the potential headache that’ll ensue later, I should be fine. I’ve only landed on my face like, over five times but Y’know everyday life stuff.”
Pipp then jumped in to the conversation. “That’s normal for you too?”
Sonic simply shrugged. “I just roll with it at this point.”
He then felt something vibrate in his hand, he checked it seeing the instructions from before. But this time there was different writing, as Sonic read it out to the group. “You’ve made it to my home, proceed to the castle for a test.”
The instructions then went blank, as if it erased the words from its skin, quickly tucking the instructions away into his quills Sonic finally looked ahead. The group then all faced where Sonic was now looking, and gaped in awe at the town around them.
It was old, rusty and ancient. Sunny had noticed it earlier but was too focused on the others to really process it, she smiled in wonder taking a few steps forward.
“This… it’s. Ponyville.” She majestically announced.
As they eyes the town around them, they quickly took note of where they were placed. It was near a big tree stump, it was like the tree itself that used to be there was blown off.
Sonic then took notice of a sign a few feet ahead of them, he zipped over to the other side of the sign and read out what was on it. “Here rests the Golden Oak Library, the old home of Twilight Sparkle.”
The group all shared the same expression of shock, as they wondered exactly how it got destroyed reduced to nothing but a stump.
“Let’s hopefully never find out what did this.” Zipp said making them all nod in agreement.
Sonic then had an idea. “I’m gonna run around, and see what how big this place is.”
Without anyone being able to say anything to shoot down the idea, he blasted off down one of the many roads that were in the town.
Pipp could only show frustration. “He’s gonna get in so much trouble one day, if he keeps this up.”
Ponyville: Sonic
As he began running Sonic took note of everything around him, the mountains in the distance, the forest that seemed to go on forever, the sky that had grey clouds with sunlight seeping through the cracks, and the very unique buildings that stood out amongst the rest.
He then made a turn around a corner, before stopping as he saw something far away. On a mountain there was a giant castle, no a city, a huge place that lied dormant.
“Woah, that’s actually kinda cool.” He admitted with a small smile.
He then took notice of something he completely missed, which was met with a simple bored face. “Wow, I missed the giant crystal castle that stands super tall.”
Without anymore hesitation Sonic flew forward towards it, staring in awe at how much it stood out amongst everything he’d seen since arriving in this world.
He ended up stopping at the bottom of the stairs, that led to the door. Taking in the full scope of what was in front of his sight, the crystal shell that shines brightly made him feel comfortable as of this place was a home.
Soon enough the sound of hooves, patting the ground behind him became known. Turning back to see his friends, staring in awe of the castle as well. “Oh my stars.” Sunny whispered beyond squealing on the inside.
“How the heck did something like this get made?” Hitch asked Nopony in particular.
Izzy moved next to him. “Well duh, they used crystals to build it. It’s not that hard to know.” She smiled.
Hitch grumbled. “It was rhetorical.”
Pipp seemed beyond the moon, as she took out her phone recording the sight before them. “OMG!!! This is so cool! Everypony, has got to see this back home!”
Her excitement ceased when her video failed to be sent out to anypony, she was puzzled until she realised the problem. “There’s no bars out here?! No!”
Everyone else was facing her with straight faces, as of to say ‘Are you serious.’
“Come on Pipp, it’s not the end of the world.” Sonic nonchalantly commented.
This made Pipp stare at him in disbelief. “But if I don’t keep updating my social feed, everpony back homes going to question where I am. And they might unsubscribe, and not listen to me anymore.”
Sonic walked over towards her placing his hand on her shoulder. “Come on, you know that’s not true. Besides at the current moment, they can wait cause you’re beauty isn’t going to be going away anytime soon.”
If Pipp hadn’t already been flustered before, she definitely did now as her cheeks burned making her ability to talk hard. “Y-You’re absolutely s-sure?” She asked hoping for some reassurance.
“Of course! Worry about it later, and let’s figure out what the heck this castle is.” He finished turning around gesturing his left palm towards it.
Zipp got closer analysing the crystal shell, with her magnifying glass machine. The results she got were unbelievable. “My gosh, this castle. The crystals that covers it, it’s…” She trailed off her face in complete shock.
“It’s what?” Sunny asked cautiously.
Zipp smiled at her friend before facing everyone else. “It’s pure magic.”
This confused the rest of them. “So it’s just magic?” Hitch questioned.
Zipp shook her head. “Not just any magic, it’s the purest we’ve ever seen. The whole castle it covered in it, from top to bottom. It’s literally magic itself in a solid form.”
Sunny then gasped realising what her friend meant. “You mean… this castle created itself with magic. No ponies or anything?”
Zipp’s smile continued to grow as she nodded. “Yep, it was created from just how powerful its magic was and still is.”
Everyone made their surprised emotions known, with a single unified word. “Woah.”
Sonic then spoke up. “It kind of explains the strange feeling, I’ve had since arriving here.”
The others seemed confused. “How would you have a feeling like that?” Sunny asked.
Sonic took a deep breath making the tension grow higher, as he breathed out. “Lots of experience.”
Deadpanned looks were aimed at him mostly, making him raise his arms defensively. “Hey, I’ve had to deal with really powerful energies before. Like every single week, so I’d at least have something to show for it.”
With that all set in stone, they returned their attention towards the giant castle in front of them. More specifically the front entrance doors, that loomed over them causing their breaths to shudder except for Sonic, Izzy and Pipp.
The Hedgehog shrugged after a second of hesitation. “Okay, time to see if anyone’s home.”
Without further hesitation he walked up to the front doors, raising a fist and giving a firm knock on the wooden object.
Silence reigned over the area for what felt like hours, and yet nothing happened. Suddenly movement was happening in Sonic’s quills, shaking them slightly along with the wind that now produced.
Reaching in for what was moving Sonic grabbed hold of it, pulling out the instructions paper he’d been holding ever since that little goof moment from before.
Holding in front of his face, his sights landed on the words that were being written like there was an efficient writer.
He once again read out what was on the parchment. “To prove your worth, you must pass a test. Tread forward if you dare.”
If the confusion about everything that was going on so far didn’t seem big enough, now it really was big as they all couldn’t hide it from each other.
“A test? A test for what?” Pipp questioned heavily breathing in a wild panic.
Zipp patted her sister on the back trying to calm her, from having a heart attack. “Breathe in, breathe out. It’s not going to be so bad.”
Sonic could only facepalm. “I really hate tests.”
Hitch stared at the hedgehog with slight confusion. “Why would you-“
He then received a stare that told him enough to not ask such a stupid question, that had an obvious answer. “Okay, fair enough.”
Izzy on the other hand or hoof, damn these ponies and their literature… Izzy on the other hoof, smiled not seeming all too upset. “Ah, come on buddies. We’ve dealt with two major incidents, where the loss of magic was at stake.
“What’s a simple test gonna do any harm?” Her answer would be granted with the foul Oder that made itself known to them.
“Ew! What is making that disgusting smell?!” Pipp cried desperately covering her nose.
Zipp did the same. “Ditto, to that sister!”
Before anymore questions could be asked, the sounds of low growls echoed from behind them as they turned to see wolves, but not just ordinary wolves they were made of wood.
Sunny could only gasped out in horror one name. “Timberwolves.”
The five ponies took a step back in fear as the timberwolves came closer, slowly advancing in on their prey. However the sound of a foot stepping forward, caused all attention from both parties to converge onto the cobalt hedgehog, who stared down the vicious creatures with determination.
“Sonic! What are you doing?! Those are Timberwolves!” Sunny seethed with worry through her gritted teeth.
Sonic however eyed his pony friend, revealing a smug smirk. “I ain’t backing away from some old twigs, after all I need some sort of thrill!”
If the group had not been gobsmacked by the hedgehog’s sudden attitude shift, but his fearless determination to very dangerous predators of ponies themselves.
But what made it worse was the fact that Sonic, was looking forward to a moment like this. “You can’t be serious!” Pipp piped up.
Sonic however returned his attention to somewhat deterred wolves, not worrying a single bit about his actions. “You can stay back if you want, but I’m gonna have fun.”
Bringing his left foot back, and left arm forward he prepped himself for battle as the predator wolves did the same.
And Sonic decided to throw in one more quip. “Let’s see if you pups, can play a little game called. Catch.”
If the ponies thought that Sonic couldn’t get any crazier with his antics, this was the cherry on top of all cakes so far.
Cause before any of them could object against his decision, he dashed on over to the closest Timberwolf. And with a swift left kick, he managed to snap off a decent size chunk of wood from its body.
The wolf growled out its pain, while the group of ponies were jaw dropped. Sonic managed to catch the chunk of wood with no issue, as he held it front of the wolf.
It could only stare at the hedgehog with hatred, glaring even harder but that didn’t faze Sonic in the slightest. “Oh, sorry about that. It’s just you puppies aren’t all that scary, if I can do that.”
Sonic then threw the wood over the wolves, before then peeling out around them toward the direction of where he and his friends first arrived.
“Come on ’Crusty Mutts’, I thought you were great at chasing your prey!” Sonic called back to the wolves aggravating them more.
The wolf that Sonic had attacked stood still for a second, as its body regenerated the part that had been broken. Once it was done being fixed, all three wolves charged after the pest they had just met wanting to end its life.
As they got further into the distance the group were left stunned, confused, annoyed, worried and lastly angry… for some of them.
Pipp who had been the most silent had vein appear on her forehead, as she yelled to the sky. “WHAT THE HAY WAS THAT?!?!”
Ponyville: Center
Sonic had been running for a little bit, and knew he got the attention of the wolves as he could hear the sound of their stomps coming from behind him. They sounded angry, ready to chomp down him the second they got the chance, but Sonic was making sure that wouldn’t happen cause as much as he was having fun, he knew that he shouldn’t do something so stupid that he gets injured.
But right now he slowed himself down to give these wolves a delusion that they could catch him, his plan was simple just tire out the three predators and return back to his friends.
However they seemed to not be giving up anytime soon, as Sonic turned his head to face behind him and saw they were in a full sprint. And they were not getting tired, making Sonic go into deep thought. ‘Okay, no way I’m going to be able to tire them out yet. I’m gonna need an alternative, but what could work?’
As if the world knew what he was thinking, he turned to face in front once more, noticing the forest that stood tall. “How come I never noticed it before? Oh well it should work!”
He then ran onto the path that lead into the deep trees, as the wolves followed after him still not willing to give up.
Upon entering into the forest, Sonic took note of how different it was from any of the places he explored in this world. It was way denser, and way more populated with bugs and creatures, all sorts of things Sonic had never seen before.
Then he began jumping from tree to tree as another batch of creatures, which Sonic had known about in his world the Manticores began swiping for him.
But Sonic had no issue dodging, he even delivered a nice kick to one of them knocking it out. Continuing forward he looked behind once more, to see that the wolves were no longer behind him he must’ve lost them.
Without further hesitation he began trekking back towards the town, to hopefully meet back up with the others and figure out the castle.
So he began accelerating, going a lot faster than before. The wind that he carried, blew the many leaves and vines away as he continued to pass by other creatures.
He even passed a giant serpent that’s was in the river, and he even passed by parasprites who all slammed into the trees.
Sonic however didn’t notice a certain creature he passed by, no not a creature but a pony who hid in the shadows the wind blew into their face as their blue horn was revealed from the sunlight.
Ponyville:
Sonic managed to escape back outside of the forest, turning to face it just in case the wolves were still chasing him. But thankfully there weren’t any present, to which he sighed smiling glad that they wouldn’t be an issue.
Without another thought he began making his way back to the castle, passing by an apple farm that stood near the forest. He even passed by a cottage, that was left alone at the edge of town but he didn’t pay them any mind.
His destination was getting closer, as he was ready to welcome himself back to the group. He arrived and came to stop, to where he walked forward with his eyes closed smirking. “Timber!”
He got no response from any of them as he opened his eyes, only to go wide eyed from the fact they were no longer present. “What? Where did they go? They wouldn’t leave, something like this behind right?”
He then realised what happened slapping himself in the face, both mentally and physically as he groaned loudly. “Why did they follow me?” He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter, I’ve gotta go after them.”
Without any further hesitation he turned back around, zipping away back towards the entrance of the forest with a serious look on his face. ‘Please be okay guys, I don’t want you getting hurt because of your worries about me.’
Without anything else to focus on he ran through the entrance, hoping to find them soon.
Forest:
The group of friends minus one Hedgehog had followed after Sonic, all worried for his safety but that didn’t mean it came without… complaints.
“Does he want to get killed?” Sunny seethed.
Zipp just shook her head. “Your guess is as good as mine.”
Hitch groaned. “If this was back in Maretime Bay, he would’ve broken all of the laws.”
Izzy meanwhile seemed fine. “I don’t know guys, he seemed to have it under control.”
Her words though triggered the other pegasus, who had been silent to finally start speaking. “Under control Izzy? What he did was so stupid and reckless, he does these things that are best questionable and at worst frustrating! He doesn’t consider all options, and instead jumps right into it! And the worst part is that he thinks it’s fun and okay, when it’s not and he doesn’t even consider how I feel about it!” Pipp finished breathing heavily.
The others only stared at the pop star with wide eyes, but Zipp on the other hoof narrowed her eyes on her younger sister. “I get we’re all concerned for him. But why are you so upset about it. You’re acting like he means so much you’re attached to him. Why is that sis?”
Pipp’s posture went from low to straight, as she turned slowly to face her sister with the tiniest tiny of red on her cheeks. “Wh-What d-do you m-mean Zipp?”
Zipp could only give her a look that sent Pipp the message, but she still tried to deny it. “Seriously Zipp, what are you talking about.”
Sunny walked forward placing her hoof onto Pipp’s shoulder. “Pipp, you’ve been acting a little weird around Sonic. We’ve all noticed but we didn’t say anything, you don’t have to tell us if you don’t want to.”
Pipp would’ve probably kept her mouth shut if it wasn’t from the fact, that the look Zipp continued to give her intensified, Pipp sighed heavily looking down at the ground, before facing her sister and the others once more. “Okay fine. I’ll tell you.”
Sadly though she wouldn’t get to finish, as the Timberwolves from before found them slowly walking up to their prey.
The group were beyond terrified, even Pipp yelped since she was facing away from them. Yet even though fear ran through their bodies, Sunny with her quick thinking uses her alicorn horn to blind the three predators.
The wolves yelp in pain as the light had made it hard to see, without anymore thought Sunny just yelled to the others. “Go! Go! Go!”
They ran as fast as they could trying to make sure, there was enough distance between them and the wolves.
After running for what felt like ages when in reality it was only twenty seconds, they all dove behind some thick bushes that would surely throw the wolves off of them for the moment.
The silence that reigned over all of them, sent chills down all their spines as the low growls came closer, seeming to come up to the bush they were hiding behind.
But slowly the growls got quieter until absolutely, nothing was heard from anywhere around them. The sighs of relief came from them all, glad they could get out of that mess.
Their brief moment of relief was cut short as footsteps approached from behind them, the bushes moved as twigs snapped making a loud crunch noise.
The group huddled together just in case for safety, and as they close their eyes for whatever came out they then heard someone familiar. “Man this place is huge, couldn’t find you guys till you screamed.”
They all opened their eyes to see Sonic, standing there smiling at them. Izzy and Pipp immediately rush over and hug him, causing a chuckle to emit from his mouth as he hugged them back. “Sorry about the scare.” He apologised.
Breaking away from the hug the happy mood didn’t last, as when he turned to face the others he saw Sunny looking at him with absolute annoyance.
Sonic could only groan knowing what was coming from her mouth. “Sunny.”
Sunny however started speaking. “Sonic, why do you do this? It’s very stressful when you constantly-!”
Her mouth was closed by the hedgehog as she muffled trying to speak her point, but Sonic shushed her as he quietly whispered to her. “They’re coming back.”
She was confused until the sound of howling in the distance caught her attention, Sonic took his hand off her mouth as she slowly breathed.
Sonic crouched down into a runner’s position. “Round two pals? Alright, bring it on.”
However Sunny jumped in front of him still whispering. “Sonic, no you’re not going after them again. You can’t beat them. If you want to beat them, we all have to work together to do so. Which means making a plan instead of jumping into the fray.” Sunny explained.
Sonic slid a palm down his face muttering himself. “I was holding back.”
He shook his head refocused on Sunny. “Fine, you’re right. But we need a plan now then, cause we’re running out of time. So what do you have in mind?”
Sunny looked at all of them and smirked knowing what to do.
The Timberwolves arrived at where the scent had rolled them, it was a relatively decent amount of space. Then their attentions was turned towards three individuals, who were taunting them.
Sonic, Zipp and Izzy were performing the stunt of throwing stones at them. This provoked the wolves enough to chase after them, the three then split up as all three wolves chase one each.
Izzy spins around jumping over a bush, the wolf gets close until Hitch appears through bush stomping his hoof down causing vines to grow capturing the wolf that chased Izzy.
Sonic took note of it as he ran. ‘One down.’
Zipp then appears on the opposite side of where Hitch is, and Sunny comes out using her horn to grab the second Timberwolf and place it with the other one trapped in the vines.
Though she fell to her knees afterwards, from carrying such a creature. But thankfully it was caught.
Sonic saw this as well taking note of it as well. ‘Two down, time to wrap this up!’
The ponies then hear the fast footsteps of Sonic and the low roars of the Timberwolf approaching, Sonic running at just the right speed smirks as he jumps into the air, to which the Timberwolf did the same but it realised something as everything came to a crawl.
Sonic had jumped higher than him and, he was headed for the other wolves. The wolf looked up at Sonic one last time, as the hedgehog saluted and winked mockingly at the predator.
And then everything came back to reality, as the last Timberwolf crashed into the other two destroying them. As all the pieces landed, Pipp then pulled a rope which raised a net from the ground, trapping all the wood pieces that would put them back together. (End Song)
After making sure the net would hold, silence followed afterwards as the group stared at each other, breathing from what they’d just experienced.
Then small smiles crossed each of their faces, as they turned into big smiles. The group cheered at their victory, well Sonic simply pumped a fist into the air.
Sunny smiled at the others. “I can’t believe that worked!”
Izzy spoke up next. “Yeah! Glad you told us about that detail Sunny, with how they can combine and get bigger.”
Hitch frowned a little from that. “That would’ve been a huge mess to deal with.”
Sonic then noticed something about the net. “Uh, guys. The pieces of those wolves are gone.” He pointed out.
The group all quickly turned to see he was right, all the pieces of wood that was the wolves had disappeared into thin air.
Sonic then felt his quills vibrate again, he reached in pulling out the instructions again. This time there was one final bit of writing. “You’ve completed the test, come back to the castle to continue forward.”
They all stared at each other blankly before Pipp once again, with her eye twitching this time screamed to the sky once more. “WHAT-?!”
Ponyville:
The group returned from the forest after Pipp had finally calmed down, but to be honest she was in the right to scream about it.
And thankfully no other creatures, had come after them along the way. They had finally reached the bottom of the stairs once more, this time however Sonic quickly searched their surroundings before returning back to them.
“Alright, hopefully this time no freaky creatures appear.” This was met with nods from the others.
Their focus was then shifted as the doors to the castle, slowly opened making a creak so audible you could hear it from the other side of town.
Once they were fully opened a silhouette was seen standing in the dark, but they slowly moved forward the sounds of hoofsteps approached, with a subtle metallic clank alongside them.
The group could only go wide eyed and gasp softly as the figure was revealed to them, to be none other than the Lavender Alicorn herself staring at them with a small smile.
Sunny could only say one name. “Twilight Sparkle.”
The Alicorn spread her wings out, as the rays of sunlight shined down on her. Making the majestic feeling grow, the others awe could only last for so long as the ancient pony finally spoke her first words.
To say the group all had shocked reactions was a big understatement, as jaws seemed to be dropped to the floor, eyes were wide and even ears were perked up to eleven.
Sunny was shaking like crazy with pure excitement, Izzy just looked the princess up and down seeming to analyse her luminescence, Hitch was surprised to see Twilight was in fact real after all this time. Zipp was just frozen as she couldn’t even process what was happening, Pipp meanwhile raised her phone up slowly trying to record but she entirely forgot about the fact she had no wi-fi out here.
Sonic on the other hand although impressed by the sudden appearance of an ancient ruler, frowned as he looked away for a second muttering to himself. “And hedgehog.”
Twilight who had held the pose for well over 10 seconds, by this point she dropped her wings carefully tucking back to her sides. She smiled down at the group, looking over each of them but the moment her eyes made contact with Sonic’s her smile faltered.
Who was this creature with them? She shook her lightly before regaining her smile. “I see you’ve all completed the test, that I set out for you.”
Sonic smirked. “Yeah, we almost died.” Only to receive a slap to the back of his head, from Sunny who glared at him.
She then faced Twilight nervously, as she expected her to voice her distain for a comment like that. But surprisingly Twilight never lost her calm expression, it was honestly soothing in some way.
“Now that you’ve proven to be worthy of taking on the threat, we’ll show you what you’re up against.” Twilight said before turning around entering back through the door.
“Come along.” She voiced before disappearing into the shadows.
The group were all still taken aback from seeing an actual legend be right in front of them, as they still stood stunned from the moment. Sonic however rolled his eyes in annoyance, facing towards the door moving forward. “I’ve seen better.” He said.
This snapped the group out of their frozen states and they too began moving, following closely behind the hedgehog who was still unamused. As they were about to enter the giant structure, Sunny then moved next to Sonic grabbing hold of him with her hooves spinning him around to face her.
“Are you bored with something this revolutionary, that’s Twilight Sparkle!” Sunny voiced annoyed with the hedgehog.
Sonic on the other hand wasn’t fazed. “Yeah, next thing you’ll tell me is that she shot rainbow lasers on her foes.” He dryly remarked, he then shook his head slightly. “The only thing that’ll shock me now, is if Death faced me. And she isn’t impressing me at all.” He jabbed his thumb towards the ancient Alicorn still showing boredom.
Without anymore words he resumed his advance after Twilight, leaving a stunned Sunny Starscout who couldn’t believe what she’d heard. ‘He’s not serious is he?’
She was so overwhelmed with his actions she followed after him, alongside the rest of her friends they were also taken aback by Sonic’s attitude, was he really used to this sort of thing?
Those questions couldn’t be answered at the moment, as they finally entered the darkened castle.
Ponyville: Twilight’s Castle
To say that their expectations of a messy indoors for an ancient castles could be thrown away, as the inside seemed relatively clean aside from maybe the little bits of objects, that were scattered in some of the halls.
“Sorry for the mess, it’s hard trying to keep this place tidy when you’ve been around so long.” Twilight said.
The group who’ve all caught up to Twilight by this point, we’re all looking around amazed at the sight around them. Although Sonic mostly was just curious, he wouldn’t lie about the fact that this was kind of cool. “Night Palace much, eh?”
The princess eyed the blue hedgehog with a look of uncertainty, he was mysterious and was an active wedge in her nerves. Who was he? What was his goal? She didn’t know, but she was going to find out.
Sunny who’s been trying to hold in her excitement, bounded right next to the Alicorn holding a big smile. “Oh my gosh, it’s amazing to meet you! I have so many questions to ask!”
Twilight chuckled slightly at the pony’s excitement, seeing herself doing something similar years and years ago made her smile fondly of her old memories. “You can ask your questions after I explain the current predicament at hoof, it’s something I didn’t get to fully disclose upon in the message I sent.”
Sunny felt a bit bummed out she couldn’t ask any of her questions, but chose to remain silent for the time being. Izzy approached from behind walking next to her friend, holding the same smile she’s held since they met. “Don’t worry we’re with you.”
Sunny could only chuckle at the unicorn’s optimism. “Thanks Izzy.”
Sonic who now has his hands behind his head, began whistling a small tune to fill the silence that followed them through the castle. He was bored so why not pass the time with a whistle, especially since the Alicorn princess seemed to be stealthily watching him.
He could understand why though after all he’s just popped into the picture, and has been in this world for months now so it’s bound to be weird. He then crossed his arms while walking finding the travel to wherever the princess wanted to go to very tedious, as he started to frown tapping his right finger onto his left arm.
Clutching his head tightly he groaned loudly. “Can we please speed this up!”
Zipp however came up behind him slapping the back of his head with her wing, he looked back at her with the same frown. “What?”
Zipp held her own frown of annoyance. “Can’t you be patient at all?”
“No.” Sonic retorted deadpanned making the silence return, it was a simple quick response that caused everyone to recoil back from how simple it was.
He then just groaned again. “Fine.” He continued forward alongside the others, more annoyed than before, it was draining.
However none noticed the mysterious figure following closely behind that watched them with interest, it wasn’t a malice look or even hatred just curiosity and… shyness?
Twilight’s Castle:
They traveled down the hall a little bit longer before stopping by a huge door, that seemed to emit a strong magical presence. One that even Sonic took note of, it was honestly kind of weird even for him. But that’s not saying much as the five ponies all breathed out amazement from their chests, this feeling was a lot for them to process.
Twilight who still held her calm smile ignited her horn, which gently pushed the door open with a small gust of wind exiting out passing through the group’s hair. And what they saw was something they thought they’d never see, it was glowing brightly it shimmered off the dulled out crystals that were on the walls. Several small thrones surrounded the giant object in the centre, with an even tinier one sitting next to what was supposedly the main throne of the room.
It was the Cutie Map.
As most of the group gawked at the breathtaking sight, one particular apricot earth pony was shaking with such excitement, her face was turning red from holding her breath as steam blew out of her ears. The others showed concern as they cringed to what was about to happen, however Sonic had a knowing smile that was filled with cheekiness, he raised three fingers up behind his back muttering to himself.
“Three.” One finger dropped, two remain. Sunny’s eyes began twitching.
“Two.” The second finger dropped, one was left standing. Sunny’s legs started tapping the floor.
The tension rises as everyone was now facing towards the young earth pony, who was trying to contain herself. But it wasn’t to last as she was close to breaking, it was only a matter of time before it all broke loose.
Sonic’s face didn’t falter as his teeth shined with his grin, he was ready. “One.”
And just like that she broke. “OH MY GOSH IT’S THE CUTIE MAP IT’S REAL AND I’M LOOKING AT IT AND I CAN TOUCH IT’S EVERYTHING MY FATHER EVER TOLD ME ABOUT AND… AHHHHHHH!!!” She squealed loudly for all of the world to hear.
Only to then pass out immediately afterwards, flipping on her back with a sudden thud. Twilight was about to help the young mare but was stopped by Sonic’s laughter, which she showed minor annoyance for.
“Don’t worry she’ll be up in a few seconds anyway.” He cackled, wiping away a tear.
Sunny suddenly gasped heavily waking up from her jolt of excitement, well it was more than a jolt but you know what I mean.
She stood up dazed still blinking her eyes, as to readjust her focus. “What happened?”
Hitch came up next to her. “You had a… let’s say a little freakout.” He tried to explain lightly as to not embarrass her.
This backfired immediately as Sunny’s cheeks turned bright red, stumbling on her thoughts. “Oh my- I’m so sorry Princess Twilight, I don’t know what came over me!? I was so excited I just-“
The princess cut in. “You just blew up from the sudden dump of information, yeah I’ve been there too.” Twilight fondly looked back on her past. “It became such a normality, that my friends nicknamed it ‘Twilighting’ and they were justified in calling my antics that.” She chuckled a little embarrassed herself.
She then shook her head moving in from the happy moment, she needed to focus on the task at hoof. “But that’s not important, what is important is who’s rising up with the power to destroy everything we love.”
The group all faced the ancient ruler, who now stood on the opposite side of the table from them. Activating her horn once more she displayed what appeared to be another Alicorn, however they couldn’t make out the look of the figure.
It was so unknown and somewhat unnerving, as Twilight spoke. “This was my old rival, Opalinus Arcadia or Opaline for short. Once upon a time she never looked like this, she was just a regular pony who I personally took under my wing. She had something special about her, that ignited my interest to reach her inner potential.”
A sigh then escaped the Alicorn’s lips, as it the scene changed to Twilight and the pony arguing. “But after she and I had a disagreement, she took off into the night and I didn’t know where she went. I couldn’t track her, she used the teachings I gave her to hide herself from me.
“I eventually stopped looking after a few days, believing she’d eventually return with clearer mind…” Twilight’s voice very subtly broke at this moment, as the scene changed again.
“But how wrong could I have been? Cause when she came back, she wasn’t her normal self. Her appearance changed into that of an Alicorn, that was protected by pink fire that she used to fight against me.
“I then found out how she managed to become like this… she found the Alicorn amulet, a forbidden artefact that I had an old friend hide away. But she somehow not only found it, but became one with it by merging it with her soul and now it remains around her neck ready to be used.” Twilight finished.
Everyone in the room was left speechless, even Sonic was. “Damn, that must’ve hurt.” He said with a genuine tone.
The others gave him a glare not catching onto his genuine feelings, of seeing someone so close to you becoming evil.
Zipp then spoke up. “Then, what happened to her?”
Twilight faced away to hide her sadness from the the group, she had to remain strong. “I had to make the hardest decision of my entire life, me and my friends tried to use our power of friendship to stop her. But it was having no effect, and that’s when I realised that in order to stop her we had to use all of our power.”
She had returned to facing the group, but she couldn’t hide the pain and sadness she held on her face. “My friends realised the same, but were willing to go through with it…” She hesitated for a moment before continuing, “We used all of our friendship power to keep Opaline trapped in a secluded area of Equestria, where she could bring no harm to any who came across her. It hurt a lot to make that decision, but it was the only way to stop her for the moment.” She seemingly concluded as the scenarios disappeared.
Everyone looked like they had seen something unworldly, as every single emotion was present on their face. It was something truly unnerving for them, Sonic to an extent was more calm about it and wasn’t showing as much emotion but it didn’t mean he didn’t feel anything.
“What happened after that?” Izzy asked the ancient ruler who had managed to regain her breath.
“I realised that when we had kept her trapped, she was slowly gaining power through the amulet and would eventually breakout, and strike once more with even more power on her side.” Twilight’s face turned grim.
“Which led to us sealing away all of magic, that way we’d keep her at bay and hopefully come up with a plan to stop her for good… and prevent the other ponies from fighting one another.” Twilight explained.
Zipp spoke up this time, with intrigue and slight concern in her eyes. “Did… she cause the ponies, to be divided in the first place?”
Twilight could only nod solemnly. “It was the worst time for our society as a whole, and it was almost about to become a war. Which is why we sealed away magic, inside of those crystals and separated them.”
“Which was how our lives were months ago.” Pipp said, with murmurs of agreement from the rest of the group.
Twilight then grew a stern face. “And now that you’ve put the crystals back together, and brought magic back, it’s only a matter of time before Opaline is free from her prison.”
Hitch then spoke up. “And we’re supposed to stop her?”
Twilight nodded once more, making all the ponies feel uncomfortable. Sonic then raised his hand as if he were in class, which Twilight acknowledged in annoyance. “Yes?” She answered.
“If you’re an ancient ruler of the land, how are you here as a spirit? It’s just a little confusing that’s all.” Sonic asked bluntly.
Twilight sighed from the question. “Because I can’t move on, until Opaline has been taken care of. My time may have passed ages ago, but it doesn’t mean I went to the afterlife. It’s like a curse, and I hope to get rid of it as soon as possible alongside having Opaline be stopped.”
Sonic was satisfied enough with that explanation, shrugging his shoulders. “Makes sense.”
Sunny then moved closer to her idol. “So what’s our first move, your highness?”
Twilight regained a smile glad to move on from the hedgehog, moving closer to the young earth pony.
“You’ll head outside and wait by the entrance of the castle, I’ll be coming along to guide you towards Opaline’s prison. There are many dangers, and obstacles you’ll need to conquer in order ti show your worth at stopping Opaline.” Twilight listed off as the ponies grouped up together once more.
Sonic began walking back over to them, smiling with confidence as they prepared to move towards the doors that led them into this room. “Alright, let’s do this!” Sonic cheered bringing smiles to the others, that is until…
“You hedgehog need to stay.” Twilight said from behind, causing them all to freeze and turn back around to face the princess.
Sonic looked both left and right, then towards his friends, he faced Twilight blinking a few times before breathing out his next word. “What?”
Twilight held a neutral face. “Because I’d like to discuss something important with you, you’re friends can continue out the door.”
Pipp who’d been silent throughout spoke next. “Wait, why? He’s a part of the group as well, what’s so important that he has to stay behind to talk to you about it?” She questioned heavily not noticing the looks she got from the others.
Zipp’s suspicious stare returned from before. ‘What’s up with her being so attached to Sonic? Unless… no way!’
Zipp grew wide eyed realising what might be happening, but she didn’t speak up about it. Sonic turned to his friends, carrying his familiar smirk they’ve grown accustomed to showing no doubts on his face.
He waved his hand casually, with no care about the current predicament that may unfold. “Eh, it's fine. I already had my fun with the puppies out there. Guess it's only fair for you five to do this on your own! Just try not to have so much fun without me, otherwise you’ll understand a new meaning of what an ass kicking is.”
The others took his words for what they were, mentally noting not to mess with Sonic’s fun streak. That’s when Izzy brought up something, that the others missed. “Wait Sonic, are you implying that Twilight’s trying to keep you from coming with us?” She whispered to him.
“Yeah, she’s giving off those vibes. Gotta be cautious about these things, besides if something goes down then I’ll catch up.” He whispered back winking at the unicorn.
Her mouth changed to the shape of an ‘O’ as she let out a noise of understanding. “Ohhhhh, that makes sense.”
He nodded in response. “Yeah it does.”
He then gestured towards the door with his left hand, with his right fist to his hip. “Now get moving, don’t want to be slowing you down now, eh?”
They nodded with smiles as they turned around and made their way out, leaving an eerie silence in the room that wasn’t there before. Sonic turned around to face the Alicorn, who stared at him with the same neutral face she held earlier which didn’t lead them anywhere, and he could only say one thing. “At least I didn’t receive, another smack to the head.”
Only for Zipp to enter back in and slap his head once more, laughing before exiting back out. Sonic faced back towards the door with a look of anger, as he yelled out loud to the heavens. “GodDammit Zepherina!”
