Weekends at Izzy's

An Intelligence officer is given the task of interviewing a unicorn mare. However, he isn't quite prepared for the questions she has for him.

Authorization for one on one interviews has been cleared. Intelligence officer Braun has been assigned to interview the female unicorn "Izzy Moonbow". Interviews are to be scheduled every Saturday and Sunday by 0800hrs. Second Lieutenant Braun has been entrusted to keep "Izzy" as comfortable as possible for maximum efficiency.

Remember we are trying to learn about them. Who knows, maybe having a true outside perspective can open our eyes to something we haven't learned about ourselves before.

It had only been two weeks since first contact between Humanity and a species that called themselves Equestrians was made. Now this wasn’t the typical first contact you see in the movies, with aliens arriving on Earth and going straight for the American White House. It occurred in the middle of spring afternoon in a small town in Oregon. It was a group of children that had initially made first contact. See report “3 apples in a basket” for further details. Word spread throughout the town about “magical talking ponies”, and our unit was sent in to investigate shortly after.

It was a rather small operation, as only a ten man team was deployed to keep a small profile. We did in fact find eight contacts after wandering in the woods for a couple of hours. At first they were afraid, but after the orders were given to lower the field team’s firearms. The ponies expressions of fear turned into ones of curiosity. I would like to personally thank the commanding officer myself, for who knows what could’ve transpired had the field team been more aggressive. After all it wasn’t the first time an operation went FUBAR, due to a single team member being a bit too jumpy.

After a brief back and forth, see report “hold the mayo” for further details. The ponies consented to following the field team back to their vehicles. Once they were on the way back to the faculty that they now call home. Our informant, a well respected member of the community dismissed the children’s stories as nothing but the youth’s over imagination. However, to ease their parent’s worries due to a high amount of children reporting a constant story. He led a group of adults into the woods where the children reported seeing the ponies. They in fact did find their ponies, just the ones that you find in our world. The switch was courtesy of the field team, aka The Monarchs.

Now we fast forward to the present day. The eight ponies we found that day were all female. The average height that they ranged from three and half feet tall to four feet tall. Their weight varied as well. As the average weight ranged from 120lbs to 150lbs. Note refrain from asking about their weight. Even though these mares are half your size, they have shown aggression towards rude comments and questions such as “you seem rather plump.” We’ve already had a lab assistant who got bucked out cold by an “Earth pony”. Who knows what could’ve happened had you upset one of the unicorns. Treat them with respect please.

The ponies come in three different varieties, “Earth ponies” are the closest to the ponies we have in our world. We conducted a few initial tests for each of the ponies. The results are the following: Earth ponies are the sturdiest of the bunch. As they are able to keep their balance over rough terrain. They are able to lift objects four times their mass, and transport said objects via long distances without succumbing to fatigue.

Then we have the “Pegasus ponies”, which are common to the Pegasi in our early mythology. Their wings are rather delicate, so please refrain from touching them without the ponies’ permission. Although sharing the same skeletal structure with the other ponies, they seem to have a lighter frame. The “Pegasi” were our outliers in gathering the average weight for the ponies. Besides the obvious ability of flight. The Pegasi have heightened reflexes, which is a likely evolutionary trait due to having to make split second decisions during flight. We also found out by chance, that they also have a better sense of direction while under the natural sky. This ability seems to dim when they enter a structure. Further testing is needed for the two species in order to unlock more of their abilities.

Lastly we have the “Unicorns”. They seem to be in between when it comes to the sturdiness of the skeletal structure. They aren’t as sturdy as the “Earth ponies”, nor as delicate as the “Pegasi”. Each “Unicorn” has the ability to cast magic. Their spells range from teleportation of objects, moving objects with their magic, and lighting up their horn to be used as a torch. More testing is required, as we have reason to suspect that they may have more abilities.

The “Unicorns” seem to have a heightened sense of concentration when it comes to the classroom environment. They scored notability higher in the following tests: Memory quizzes, solving puzzles, along with grasping college levels of algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Take note that the “Unicorns'' seem to have a higher sense of perception. This is the general sense, along with being able to “read the room.” Further testing is needed to prove this theory. Since having a single guard break down in tears, to what he described as “a much needed therapy session” isn’t enough evidence to prove that theory.

Like the ponies in our world, these mares are no different. They enjoy the company of their kind. They haven’t shied away from us, and have grown an interest in us humans. It’s rather common nowadays for the mares to hold long informal conversations with the guards and staff. The record is held by a mare that goes by the name of “Sunny.” She held an eight hour conversation with a female researcher. Only taking brief breaks to eat, and when nature called. That conversation led site command to finally authorize one on one interviews with the ponies.

You had to contain your yawn as Dr. Lee finally put down the file she had been reading for the past hour. She adjusted her glasses and neatly put the various papers back in the folder. She stretched her arms and then looked back up at you. “Your instructions are simple. Use the questionnaire as a guide, you can ask any other question that you see fit as well. Just be sure take note of what she tells you.” Dr. Lee turned away from you and rose out of her chair. “I personally choose you second lieutenant, and even though you may not think you’re right for this mission. I will tell you otherwise.”

She looked at me, and smirked. “The mare that you’ve been assigned to goes by the name of Izzy Moonbow. She is a unicorn that has shown interest in getting to know you Second Lieutenant.” I rose my eyebrow to the last part, but before I could say anything Dr. Lee walked towards me. Then she placed both hands on my lap, and was face to face with me.

This woman was a whole foot and half shorter than me. Yet she was far more intimidating than anyone I’ve ever met to this point in my life. Her eyeglasses shifted to a white hue, as the lights around her office glared off of them. “Mister Braun, I want and demand results. If you make me regret my decision, your ass is mine.” All I could do was nod slowly at her statement. She backed off from my face, and lifted her hands off my lap. Only to have a sudden mood change.

With a smile she exclaimed. “Like the ponies of our world they enjoy being petted, brushed, and to be given treats. Mind you, the mares can get rather touchy once they get comfortable with an individual. We humans can mistake this for signs that mares want to get intimate. However this doesn’t seem to be the case, rather it appears to be a sign of creating some type of emotion bond. After all, who'd want to have sexual intercourse with a pony?”

I chuckled at the last part, “maybe the marines since they’ll pretty much have sex with anything that moves.” Dr. Lee shared a laugh with me. After some brief small talk, Dr. Lee handed over some folders for me to study over my spare time. Along with a laptop. The laptop was going to serve as the interview recorder, and a central point for notes and additional information. I alone will have access to the laptop. However, every Thursday I am to report to Dr. Lee’s office and give her a briefing about my findings. After our goodbyes. I gathered my belongings in my pack and headed over to Izzy’s dorm.

I checked in my side-arm with the guard once I reached the first checkpoint. Afterwards it was just a long walk towards Izzy’s dorm. I walked past a couple of other ponies who smiled and waved towards me. I returned the gesture and kept going till I finally reached her dorm. The door had the number eight on it, and nothing else. I checked my watch, 800hrs on the dot. I took a deep breath, and knocked on the door. I waited for a few seconds, and was about to knock again before I heard faint sounds of hooves approaching the door. I stood up tall, as the door slid open.

On the other side stood a light lavender coated mare. Her magenta colored eyes locked on to mine, at first she seemed to be in awe. But she soon broke the silence, “whoa you’re tall.” She lifted her right fore-hoof to hide her giggle. I gave her a soft smile, as she shifted her right fore-hoof towards my hand. “My name is Izzy Moonbow, it’s nice to finally put a face to the file I read about you.”

I hesitated for a moment after hearing the last part of her sentence, but quickly recovered meeting her hoof with my hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss Moonbow, I am Second Lieutenant Braun. I will be the one interviewing you until further notice. I must say that your file doesn’t do your appearance justice.” The mare blushed at my comment, and giggled. I let go of her hoof, and she placed it back down on the ground.

Izzy turned to the side and pointed towards her common area. “Please come in, pick whichever couch you like. They’re both pretty comfy!” I nodded, and stepped inside while removing my cover. From the corner of my eye, I noticed Izzy’s eyes studying my figure. I wasn’t really bothered by it. After all, I am an alien creature to her. It was only natural for any being to study a creature that they’ve never seen before. I heard what I can only describe as a wind chime. I took a look behind me, and noticed Izzy using her magic to carry two large bottles of water. I froze for a bit, my eyes locking onto the two bottles of water wrapped in a faint blue aurora. She giggled once more, to what I can assume was my expression. She gave me a bottle and then climbed up on the couch across from me.

She placed her bottle on the table, and then laid on the couch with a smile. “We can start whenever you are ready, Second Lieutenant Braun sir.” She gave me a salute, and broke into laughter.
