Come take a seat and listen to a tale from The Lorekeeper
There are a lot of things in MLP Gen 4 that isn't answered cleanly, and I want to share my options on it. And what better way to tell the stories and headcanons than with an OC named, The Lorekeeper. Imagine her as you will, as she has no form and is mostly just the voice. She will be narrating the tales she has in her large tome of lore and stories. Now, Take a seat and enjoy.
Ah, hello there little pony. Or perhaps you are a griffon, a dragon, a changeling, a yak, or a hippogriff. No matter what you are, please, take a seat and listen to my tales. The world of Equestria and beyond is a fantastical place of wonder and mystery, and though you may not be able to see this incarnation of this land ever again, allow me to tell you tales of the legends of this world, tell you all the lore this world has to offer, and what secrets it holds. Now tell me… What do you wish to learn?
Ah yes! The five alicorns of Equestria: Celestia, Luna, Twilight, Cadence, and Flurry Heart. Powerful being on their own, but together can be unstoppable. Two are powerful enough to move the heavenly bodies, two made when they created new magic, and the last being the firstborn in Equestria. What a quintet! However, I would like to ask a very good question: What about Cozy Glow? In my records, Cozy was just a little filly pegasus, but when she absorbed the magic from Grogar’s bell, she became an alicorn. Another important bookmark I have is the fact that she was turned back, stripped of her horn. How can a normal filly become an alicorn and then be stripped from it? The same goes for how our lovely Princess Twilight Sparkle became an alicorn: Absorbing magic.
A wise Changeling once said, “There’s nothing special about being an alicorn.” Yes they do have powerful magic but so do Starlight and Starswirl the Bearded and they aren’t alicorns, they are just powerful unicorns. There’s no divinity to it, no right of passage, anypony can be an alicorn. But don’t hold your breath for too long, as that wise Changeling did point out that you need magic from all the tribes: Earth, Pegasi, and Unicorn. With all three tribes, the Alicorn is the master of them all. Twilight absorbed the magic given from her friends, which has at least one member of each tribe, pumping her with magic, and Cozy Glow did something similar, but far sinister. She took the magic from the bell, which had the magic from ponies back in the day, and I don’t think Grogar would have spared any magic that was in those ponies of old.
Now, since you know the tale of how Twilight and Cozy became alicorns, but allow me to tell you a tale about another up and coming princess. One who is far more devilish than Cozy, and one who might actually overthrow our lovely princess of friendship. And there’s no amount of friendship lasers that can fix what she has done.
“Once upon a time, an earth pony and a Pegasus had a daughter. A unicorn. This is of no surprise to the parents, as both of them came from families that had unicorns in them, so there were perfectly fine with their lovely ball of powder-white snow. They watched as their daughter showed her skills in magic, doing feats they could only dream of doing. They were amazed and sent her to Chanterlot to go to the School for Gifted Unicorns.
“However, behind closed doors, the young unicorn wasn’t happy with herself. She wanted to feel powerful but was never satisfied with any of the lessons the school system would teach her. She read every magic book, learned many spells, even skipping a few grades, her abilities amazed everyone. But behind that goofy smile, was a mastermind at work, trying to figure out how to satisfy her thirst for power, and it didn’t help a bully of the school set her eyes on her.
“This bully wasn’t as magical inept as the young unicorn, and they wanted to stop her before the young unicorn got any ideas. The bully cornered the young unicorn, ready to give her a verbal beat down, but then something strange happened.
“The bully started to feel light-headed and the young unicorn felt like she blacked out, and once it was over, the bully felt very weak, and when they looked over and saw their cutie mark was gone. Meanwhile, the young unicorn felt stronger and looked over and there, the former blank flank had a cutie mark, one of ill omen: a crown with two bleeding swords behind it. This young filly knew exactly what it meant: She was meant to be a conqueror, and she knew iron and blood was the order of the day.
“The bully retreated away from the public eye, becoming a full-grown unicorn without a mark. As for the young unicorn, who knows where she went. Her family hasn’t heard from her after she graduated from the magic school and is too afraid to look for her due to the string of disappearances across Equestria. No one knows where she is now, but I’m sure she is out making the world a better place.”

Oh ho ho ho! So, you want to learn about Discord? The Spirit of Chaos, the being who was very close to overthrowing the royal sisters, and now is an ally to Equestria. Or maybe not. You can never tell with tricksters. But the question on everyone’s lips is, where did he come from? Well, I have a tale that highlights my theory about where he came from.
“Once upon a time, two souls sparked into existence at the same time. They had no physical forms yet but they clashed with each other, trying to one-up the other, while also coexisting with one another, understand one another, but never really interacting, as it could lead to the destruction of them both.
“Soon, one of the souls manifested itself into a seed, which was planted by 6 powerful ponies. The other soul couldn’t believe what they were seeing and went off to a far off land, one it had created where gravity is weird and creatures of chaos roam. The soul sat in a cave, curling itself up in a ball. The soul hated the other, but now that the other soul had a physical form, they were all alone. All alone to sulk.
“Years went by and the soul started to grow. A deer antler on the right, a blue goat horn on the left, one long fang, and different-sized pupils. A snake tongue, a goat beard, white bushy eyebrows.The right arm of a lion, the left claw of an eagle. The right leg of a lizard, and the left leg of a goat. A bat's right-wing, a Pegasus' left-wing. Finally, horse's mane, and a dragon-like snake's tail with a white tail tuft.
“After those hundreds of years of growing, the sprite awoke from his sulking slumber and looked at himself. He was an abomination. And he loved it. He gave himself a name, one that represented his desire to spread chaos throughout the land: Discord.
“Discord set out back to the land of Equestria, looking for his old ‘friend’. On his search, he finds ponies tribes, together and enjoying the harmony. He couldn’t have that. Thus begins Discord’s reign of chaos and unrest, and I have a feeling you know how that story goes.”

Oh, that old trinket? What a tale to tell! The alicorn amulet is a powerful trinket, composed of red jewels and black metal. It grants the wearer powerful magic, with the consequence of losing their morality and being corrupted. I heard that Princess Twilight, our lovely princess, back when she was just a unicorn, she had to face against another unicorn named Trixie, who had the amulet on. Trixie had outclassed her in every way, and Twilight could only barely beat Trixie by outsmarting her through illusions and friendship. It was checkmate, and Twilight was able to get the amulet off of her.
So where did the amulet come from, and where is it now? Well, I got a tale for you.
"Once upon a time, a great wizard (not Starswirl the Bearded) saw the royal sisters and studied them from afar. He observed how they were able to move the heavenly bodies with ease, unlike the unicorns that had to struggle and drain their magic just to raise the sun every morning, but here, these sisters, these young girls, they were able to move them with ease. The wizard wanted that power.
"The wizard, whose name was lost to time, started to build an amulet. One that can grant him the power of an alicorn. He began to go mad when going deeper into his work. Nothing was powerful enough for him. So, he turned his gaze north, towards the incredible city-state of The Crystal Empire. There he learned the magic of crystals and how some could grant him unimaginable power.
"After much blood sweat and tears, his amulet was complete, but at what cost? The wizard lost his life to the powerful amulet, the madness drove him to dark magic, and his soul was absorbed by the amulet. To this day, users of the amulet can still hear the voice of the wizard whispering in their minds.”
So, where is it now? It is right there, in my possession. When Princess Twilight took the throne, she entrusted me to keep it safe. What an honor. Although the whispers at night are annoying from time to time.
