To all a good night
If you were to call ponyville a ‘quaint little town’ you’d probably get laughed out of it by most of the residents, but on the snowy night of Hearth’s Warming eve, the town is quite picturesque and quaint looking, and it will usually stay that way for a few days. Around the town, most fillies and colts are sleeping, or trying to stay awake, most mares and stallions are sitting by the fire or heading to bed themselves. But in a cute and small cottage on the edge of the town one mare is still awake, doing some last minute wrapping and waiting for the arrival of a friend. Fluttershy had already gotten most of the presents for her friends wrapped up, all she had left to wrap was a new book set for Twilight and for Spike an assortment of green gems, like emerald, chrysoprase, zoisite and moldavite. Just as she finished wrapping up Twilight's books a tapping came from a window floating in the middle of the room, Fluttershy let out a small giggle and quite loudly said “You can come in Discord, try not to make a mess though.” and she moved aside some of the gifts.
The window opened and in flew Discord, completely covered in snow like he just walked through a blizzard. He snapped his talons and the snow flew off him and took the shape of himself “Alright me, head out to the snow and make yourself some friends, then chill out.” Discord laughed and the snowcord walked out the front door, with a flying cloth following to clean up the watery footprints in the house “Happy Hearth’s Warming my dear Fluttershy, I hope I didn’t interrupt anything too important, like maybe wrapping my present?” He asked quite hopefully.
“Oh I’m sorry Discord, I wrapped your present up a few hours ago, it's up in my room with the ones for my family, I can go get it for you if you like?” Fluttershy got up and trotted away to go grab it before he could say anything and came back a few minutes later with a medium sized box wrapped up on her back. “You can open this tomorrow, but you can have it now, Happy Hearth’s warming Discord.” She said with a smile and lifted the gift off her back and over to him with her wings, before sitting back on the floor and starting to wrap up Spikes box of gems.
Discord set the box on the ceiling, walked over next to her and flopped down into a pile “Is that your last present to wrap? I hope so, I wanna relax with you, melt into the couch with some hot chocolate.” As he finished speaking he melted his body into a puddle and poured himself into a giant mug and laughed.
Fluttershy joined him in giggles and nodded her head, ”Yes this is my last present, and it's almost done, we can make some hot chocolate afterwards, try not to spill yourself.” She finished wrapping the present for Spike and put it with the pile of presents for her friends. She stood up, grabbed the super light mug of discord, and walked over to the kitchen.
As they got to the kitchen discord poured himself out of the mug and got back in shape, snapped his fingers and some tap dancing chocolate chips popped into existence “Some dancing chocolate for a tasty treat.” He said as the chips floated over and danced into a pot of milk that was heating up on Fluttershy’s stove.
“Thank you Discord, that was very kind of you.” She stated while adding some vanilla, cinnamon and honey to the pot. She looked over and smiled while turning the heat down “So how have you been this week, did anything fun happen? Also the hot chocolate will be done in a minute or two.”
Discord sat down on one of her kitchen chairs and stretched out “ Oh you know, some chaos here, gardening there, a fun game of O&O with the guys, some present buying and wrapping, so mostly the usual, with some holiday extras.” as he mentioned the things he had done, he poofed into different outfits, a gardeners outfit, his O&O character, a coat scarf and hat.
After a couple minutes of giggling and stirring the pot, Fluttershy poured the drink into two mugs, added some marshmallows and brought them over to the table. She sat down and sighed “this winter has been nice so far, and now I get to spend Hearth’s Warming eve with one of my best friends, and favourite draconequus.” As she finished saying that she leaned over and bopped him with her head.
Discord’s face lit up a little with a blush and he bonked her back “And I get to spend it with the most wonderful little pony that I know. Oh yes, I almost forgot to give you your present, one second.” He said while unzipping the air to his left and reaching in. After a few minutes of rummaging around he pulled out a small paw sized box, as well as a plate of cookies “There we go, you can start unwrapping it after our sweets. Don’t worry, it’ll take a while to open.”
Fluttershy grabbed the box and a cookie with a smile “Thank you Discord, this is a great thing to have with hot chocolate.” After munching on some cookies and drinking the hot chocolate the two of them walked into the living room and sat down, and fluttershy started unwrapping the gift, untying the bow and started peeling back the paper before it popped and another wrapped present double the size of the first came out of it, this went on for ten layers, each growing in size and time to unwrap. As she started to unwrap for the eleventh time she looked over at Discord with an exasperated smile “You’re so silly Discord, how many layers are there, I’ve been unwrapping for nearly an hour, it’s almost midnight.”
Discord looked over to the pile of bows and wrapping paper “I’d say five more, so you’ll finish opening it sometime early in the morning on Hearth’s Warming.” He watched as she kept unwrapping, each layer now taking nearly fifteen minutes.
Some time after one in the morning Fluttershy finished opening the gift, inside the box that's now bigger than her door was a large carved wooden statue of herself and Discord that said Best Friends Forever on the base “Oh Discord, it’s wonderful I love it, Thank you.” She reached over and gave him a hug. “I guess since it’s Hearth’s Warming you can open your gift too.”
Discord reciprocated the hug and smiled, then reached up and grabbed the present off the ceiling, after a quick few seconds of shredding paper he opened to box to see Fluttershy’s face, but knitted, he lifted out a medium sized hand knitted plush of the pony sitting next to him “Oh Celestia, Fluttershy it’s perfect, I’ll treasure it forever. Happy Hearth’s Warming.” He hugged her and the plush. After another hour of talking and laughing, the two of them passed out together, cuddling on her couch.
