Sunburst's Question

Spring had arrived in Canterlot and the spirits of the students were beginning to brighten. Not only were the temperatures starting to warm up, the end of the school year was in sight. That was not the only thing that was in sight though, the Spring Formal, the biggest dance of the school year was also in sight and while the couples had already made plans to go with one another, some of the singles were hoping to attract a date so maybe they could find a relationship themselves.

Another Friday afternoon had arrived and the students were headed home for a weekend free of the stresses involved in school. Like they always do, Starlight and Trixie headed out of the school, arm in arm and hand in hand talking about the plans they had for the weekend. Walking right behind them was a student who couldn't keep his eyes off one of the girls in front of him, Sunburst.

Heading down the stairs on most afternoons was a challenge but it was even more so on Fridays since every student crowded the stairs in their desperation to get home. Sunburst never was one for crowds but when he got bumped from behind, he stumbled forward and knocked the two girls in front of him down.

The crowd stopped moving so that the girls would have the space they needed to get up. Once they had got up the two girls gave Sunburst a scowl and one said, "Watch where you're going, you could have hurt us."

The other added, "And you don't want to know what The Great and Powerful Trixie would do if you hurt her bestie Starlight!"

Both girls grunted and began to walk away before Sunburst got their attention, "Starlight, wait!"

The girls turned around and with the same scowl they had earlier, Starlight asked, "What?"

Sunburst asked in return, "Do you think that maybe we could talk for a couple minutes?"

Starlight pointed over towards the horse statue and replied, "Well let's get out of everyone's way so we're not blocking traffic."

Sunburst nodded and followed the girls. He couldn't help but keep his eyes on Starlight but also watched both with a curious look on his face as they had their arms around one another. Once they were out of everyone's way Starlight asked, "What? What is it you want?"

Sunburst was a rather shy individual and had never interacted with Starlight before. He began, "Well my name is Sunburst....."

Starlight asked, "Who?"

Trixie laughed, "He's one of the nerds that are always up in the front row dutifully taking notes in physics class."

Starlight sighed, "Oh." She then turned to Sunburst and ordered, "Look, Trixie and I want to get away from this place as quickly as possible so what is it you want?"

Sunburst had a feeling that Starlight was a bit irritated and became more nervous than normal. He was a bit afraid to ask Starlight what he wanted to but knew that if he didn't do it then, that he may not do it at all. He asked, "Well, as you kn-know, the Spring Formal is coming up and, and I was won-wondering if you'd go with me?"

Starlight tightened her hold on Trixie and asked in return, "Why would you want to go with me? Why would you want to go with someone that you only see in passing?"

Trixie felt a bit threatened by Sunburst's question and and added, "Can't' you see that Starlight is very close with The Great and Powerful Trixie?"

Sunburst replied, "Well it is just that I find you attractive and from what I have seen of you, you seem really nice."

Starlight wanted to get away from the situation so she replied, "Look, I'm flattered you find me attractive. I really am but I'm just not interested, alright?"

Sunburst held his head low and sighed, "Alright, I understand."

The three then parted ways with different emotions. Starlight was a bit irritated, Trixie was visibly angry that anyone would dare ask her best friend out to a dance and Sunburst felt sad, very sad. He then began to wonder if maybe there was a chance that he could get her to change her mind.

Seeking Advice

Sunburst had been rejected by the girl that he had a crush on and felt terrible about it. He held his head low and sighed, "Unless I do something to impress her, I don't have a chance with her."

Some of the other students had stayed around to watch his interaction with Starlight and weren't surprised by how it turned out but one student, a student who had been rejected himself, felt bad for him. He approached him and said, "I'm sorry man, I'm sorry it didn't work out."

Sunburst looked up to see who had spoken to him and was shocked by who it was, it was the most popular boy at CHS, Flash Sentry. He asked, "Flash Sentry?"

Flash replied, "Yes, I'm Flash Sentry." He used his hand to lift Sunburst's head up and continued, "Look, I know you want that Starlight girl to like you but I don't think it's going to happen."

Sunburst asked, "Why not? You always have girls flirting with you." His paranoid side began to come out and he thought Sunburst may be insulting him. He continued, "What, you think she wouldn't want me because I'm not attractive, because I don't play the guitar, because I'm not muscular......"

Flash interrupted, "Sunburst, I didn't say that." He paused for a moment before continuing, "I'm saying it probably won't happen because I don't think Starlight is into guys."

Sunburst gasped, "What?" He couldn't comprehend the idea of a girl not being into guys, especially an attractive girl like Starlight.

Flash Saw the look of shock on his face and continued, "Sunburst, just watch how her and Trixie interact. They haven't ever formally came out but everyone at school knows they're an item, everyone knows they're lesbians."

Sunburst asked, "Lesbians, you mean they only like girls?"

Flash replied, "Yes, they only like girls. They are like Lyra and Bon Bon except they seem to show one another a lot more affection in public."

Sunburst at first looked dejected but then something crossed his mind. He asked, "Are there girls who like both girls and boys?"

Flash replied, "Actually yes but when it comes to Starlight, I think it would be best if you cut your losses." He then lowered his voice and continued, "This may surprise you but even I've been shot down."

Sunburst's eyes grew wide as he asked, "Wait a minute, even you have been shot down?" He became more calm and continued, "By who?"

Flash replied, "There is this girl, Twilight Sparkle, that I have a major crush on."

Sunburst asked, "Twilight Sparkle? Her and I study together all the time!"

Flash replied, "Yes. Well I asked her out on a date once and she told me that she was too busy studying."

Sunburst sighed, "Yeah, I can understand that." He wanted to get past the small talk and get to what is important. He stood taller and asked, "Alright, what do I need to do to get her attention? What can I do or get for her that girls love?"

Flash could tell that Sunburst wasn't simply going to let this go, he wasn't just going to cut his losses. He replied, "Well a lot of girls like roses and I know some girls who like guys that do things like go on a live stream and sing them songs."

The wheels inside of Sunburst's head began to turn and very quickly he knew what had to be done. He exclaimed, "Of course! I'll get Starlight some roses, that should win her over!"

Before Flash could even respond, Sunburst had taken off. He couldn't help but shake his head in frustration. He obviously had concerns about Sunburst but also had a bad feeling about what Starlight and Trixie might do if he just showed up to school with a bouquet of roses.

Finding Starlight's Home

After his talk with Flash, Sunburst had decided that he was going to try and do something romantic. He had decided that not only was he going to write a romantic poem for Starlight, but he was also going to buy a dozen roses and deliver them to her at home. There was only one problem, he had no clue where Starlight lived. He thought to himself, "How can I do this if I don't even know where she lives." His head shot up as he continued, "Of course, her and Trixie headed to the north. Maybe if I run, I can catch up with them and see where she lives."

Sunburst had never been an athlete but knew that if he was to discover where the object of his affection lived, that he would have to run and run fast so he took off to the north. It was not too long after he began to run that he felt a burning sensation in his lungs and had begun to sweat. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath and said to himself, "Come on Sunburst, you have to keep going!"

He again took off, sprinting as fast as he could in the dress shoes that he always wore. After what seemed to be forever for him, he finally saw Trixie and Starlight heading into what appeared to be a fairly nice house. Once they headed inside, he crept up to the house and noticed a marking on the door, one similar to a design that is on Trixie's dress. He said to himself, "Well this has to be Trixie's house! Now I have to wait for Starlight to head home and who knows how long it will take."

Sunburst hid in some bushes and waited until he saw not only Starlight leave, but Trixie as well. He was in a state of shock when he saw both girls go into what was Starlight's house. At first he couldn't help but wonder why both girls would head into that house until two things came to his mind, either Trixie and Starlight were having a sleepover or Trixie actually lived with Starlight given how close they were.

He approached the house and after looking at it for a minute, he noticed that there was a security camera watching his every move. He realized that he had to leave but in the process, he activated a motion sensor causing a light to come on. This was his cue that he had better get going, especially if Starlight had a monitor inside that she could monitor everything that the camera saw.

Preparing to Visit Starlight

Once Sunburst discovered where Starlight lived, he began the long journey to his home on the other side of town. The trip home was even longer and when he arrived home, it was about an hour after midnight but he did not care. He had discovered where Starlight lived and despite being tired, he put the next part of his plan into action, writing a romantic poem that would be sure to woo the girl he had a crush on.

Sunburst had always been the analytical, academic type. Writing poetry and doing anything else creative had never been his strong point but he knew this had to be done. He grabbed a notebook and a pen and sat down to get to work. He sat there for fifteen minutes tapping the pen on the paper and he sighed, "Ugh, why must this be so hard? Why are words so hard to come up with?"

He lowered his head onto his desk until something crossed his mind, "I've got it! I'll get online and look for poems!"

Sunburst turned on his computer and got online. Once he got his browser loaded, the very first thing he did was search for romantic poems. When the results came up, he was overwhelmed as he had no idea that there were that many romantic poems.

As he began to go through them, he saw that there were ones for married couples, ones for engagement, ones for serious couples but was seeing none that were designed for a boy to try and win a girl's affection. He began to bang his head on his desk and grunted, "Ugh, I can't even find a poem on the internet, this is hopeless!"

When he was banging his head on the desk, his head hit his mouse and clicked it. When he sat back up he saw the next page of results had shown up on the screen, a page that had exactly what he was looking for. He pumped his fist and cheered, "Yes, just what I'm looking for!"

He grabbed his pen and began to write it down.

* If you only knew how beautiful you are to me
You'd know I see an angel every time I look at you.
I get short of breath my heart first skips a beat.
Then speeds up fast.
Feeling as if it will pound right out of my chest.

You're so beautiful I wish I had more than two pictures.
of which I could get comfort and admire
That perfect smile which enraptures me through and through
I look at them and I say I love you. I miss you so very much.
They provide me comfort in those hardest times.
When I'm so very lonely and need you by my side.

You're so very beautiful to me.
If you only knew how much.
You're divine to me as a perfect jewel.
I just want to hold and kiss you all night long.
You're just beautiful through and through.

He smiled and said to himself, "I know this will work, these sweet words will win her over."

He looked at his clock and notice that it was almost three in the morning and realized that he had better get some rest. He turned everything off and laid there with a smile on his face realizing that later that day would be his chance to win over Starlight and get her to go to the spring formal with him.

The following morning Sunburst was late to rise but he figured that this was likely for the best so that he would be well rested for when he went to visit Starlight. After grabbing a quick bite to eat he headed to the local florist to buy Starlight something he knew that she couldn't resist, a dozen roses.

Visiting Starlight

After buying Starlight a dozen roses Sunburst took off towards the north end of town, where Starlight lived. While the walk wasn't horribly long, it was still longer than he would like and given that temperatures were getting warmer, he had begun to sweat which caused him a bit of concern. He knew though that there was no going back as he had written down the poem and more importantly, spent a fair amount of money on roses for her.

It was early in the afternoon when he finally arrived at Starlight's house. He initially thought about going and knocking on her door but then realized that with as close as her and Trixie were, that she may be over at her place so he headed across the street to see if she was there first.

He knocked on the door and for a minute there was no answer. He sighed, "Well she must either......"

The door opened and he heard a voice ask, "Who is it? Who is it that is disturbing The Awesome and Amazing Moonrise?"

Sunburst turned around to see a taller woman, dressed in a dress similar to what Trixie usually wears, only it was darker. He figured that she was likely Trixie's mom so he asked, "Uh, hi. I was wondering if Starlight is here?"

Moonrise gave him a scowl and snapped, "Who the hell are you and for your information, Starlight doesn't even live here."

Sunburst replied, "Well my name is Sunburst and I know your daughter and Starlight are really close....."

Moonrise yelled, "Look, get off my doorstep unless you want me calling the cops."

She slammed the door and this was Sunburst's cue to get going. He then realized that perhaps he should have checked Starlight's house so he went back across the street to Starlight's house. Just as he was getting ready to knock on the door he heard a yell, "You bastard ref, he was off-side! That goal shouldn't count!"

He could tell that the yell was that of Starlight and wondered not only what she was talking about but whether or not this was a good time. Finally he mustered up the courage to knock on the door. After knocking on the door he heard another yell, "Coming!"

The other voice was that of Trixie, which did not surprise him. Before he could think anything about her being there the door opened and Trixie answered, "Hello?" She then saw who it was and asked, "Oh, it's you. What do you want?"

Sunburst replied, "Well I was kind of hoping I could talk to Starlight for a few minutes."

They heard Starlight cheering over the scoring of a goal and they had different thoughts. Sunburst thought that maybe she would be in a better mood but Trixie knew that tearing her away from the game would be a mistake. She rolled her eyes and sighed, "Look, disturbing Starlight while hockey is on is a serious mistake and even The Great and Powerful Trixie knows not to disturb her when hockey is on!"

Sunburst figured that maybe if he talked to her in the living room things would be alright, that she could still watch her game and he would get to talk to her. He asked, "Could I come in and talk to her?"

Trixie knew that allowing Sunburst into the house would be a serious mistake. She sighed, "No, you can't come in. Trixie shall go and see if she can tear Starlight away from her game to talk to you."

Sunburst sighed in frustration as Trixie headed back to the front room. Starlight was in a much better mood given that her team had retaken the lead. When she saw Trixie standing there she asked, "What is it Trixie?"

Trixie replied, "There is this guy at the door who wants to talk to you."

"Yeah, and." She developed a scowl on her face and added, "Tell him to come back later, no one disturbs me when Vanhoover is playing, especially since we don't get many of their games to start with."

Without warning, Sunburst went into their house and headed where he heard the talking. When he got in there, Starlight would not be one bit pleased. She saw him standing there and yelled, "What are you doing in our house?" She turned to Trixie and asked, "Did you let him in?"

Trixie replied, "No, I guess he just followed me in."

The second period of the game ended and it went to intermission so Starlight decided that the time to run off their unwanted visitor had arrived. She scowled at him and said, "What do you want?" He began to say something before she added, "Whatever it is, make it quick, Vanhoover is playing and intermissions don't last forever."

Sunburst replied, "Well I just wanted to give you these flowers."

He approached Starlight and gave her the roses. She looked up at him and asked, "And for what purpose?"

Sunburst replied, "Because I think you're beautiful and I want to get to know you." He saw an irritated look on her face before continuing, "Before you get mad, I want to share a poem with you."

Starlight was quickly becoming irritated but decided to placate him and let him read the poem. Sunburst pulled out the paper he had written it down on and read,

When he finished reading it, Starlight was angry he would show up and read her a sappy poem but decided to hold her anger. She did find one thing a bit interesting though, the poem he read her. She asked, "Seriously Sunburst, you go online to find a poem to read to me? You decide to come to our house, on a game day, just to share it with me?"

Sunburst replied, "Well yeah....wait a minute, did you say our house, as in you and Trixie live together?"

The intermission of the hockey game was drawing to a close and Starlight wanted to hurry up and get him out of there and figured he should know the truth so hopefully he would leave her alone. She informed, "Yes, Trixie and I live together and we love one another so I would advise you stop hitting on me" she turned towards the TV and finished, "and go before the game starts up again."

He said, "Please just give me....."

Starlight knew she was going to have to be stern. She didn't want to bring him to tears but at the same time, she wanted to send a clear message. "Sunburst," Starlight began "look, I'm flattered, I really am but you have to understand that there are two things I love in life, Trixie and hockey and speaking of hockey, the game is starting up again so I think it would be best if you left."

Trixie added, "The Great and Powerful Trixie thinks the same. Starlight isn't happy right now and you don't want to disturb her while hockey is on. Even Trixie knows that, one bad call and she'll go into a rage."

Sunburst began to say something just as the puck was about to drop causing Starlight to add, "Look, I know of a girl who may go with you but for now, just go. Hockey is on and I don't feel like being distracted."

Sunburst let out a sigh of defeat and Trixie led him to the exit. He would then increase his pace when he heard another irate yell from Starlight over the bad officiating. When he got outside he asked, "Trixie, Starlight said something about another girl. Do you think she'd talk to me about it later, after the game."

Trixie sighed, "She might but if Vanhoover loses, I'd advise you steer clear of her until the next day. She is obsessed over that team. Even Trixie sometimes wonders if they aren't more important than her!"

Sunburst nodded and headed back towards home. While he did find Starlight attractive and had a crush on her, he began to realize that a relationship with Starlight would be impossible as they likely had next to nothing in common. He never did care for sports while Starlight would go into a fury over even one bad call. He thought to himself, "She did say something about another girl. Maybe she'll at least want to go to the dance with me."

A Second Visit With Starlight

View Online

Three hours had passed since Sunburst had got shot down by the girl he had a crush on. He just couldn't figure it out, he thought for sure that the roses and the poem would win Starlight's adoration but it didn't even come close. He thought to himself, "How? How could it have not worked and why is she so big into sports? Most girls aren't that big into them, especially action packed ones like hockey!"

He continued to go through all the events of his failed attempt to win her over and then finally he remembered the last part. He remembered Starlight bringing up something about a girl who might be interested in going. He then decided that he would call Starlight and ask about it but there were two problems. He didn't know if there still might be hockey on and he didn't even know her number.

He then decided to check the phone book but was unsure about what it would be listed under. He knew that Starlight likely didn't own the place and the phone line likely wasn't under her name but then thought of one person who would likely know her number, Moonrise Lulamoon.

Sunburst dug out the phone book and it didn't take him long to find her phone number. He was a bit nervous as he was dialing her number given her unpleasant demeanor earlier in the day. As the phone was ringing, he was hoping that maybe Trixie would be home and would answer but would get the same unpleasant response when the phone was picked up,

"Hello, who is it? Who is it that is disturbing The Awesome and Amazing Moonrise?"

"Hi, this is Sunburst. I'm wondering if you know what Starlight's number is."

"You again? Why are you wanting to know this? Why are you stalking my daughter's girlfriend like this?"

"I just really need to talk to her."

"Look, unless you want me reporting this to the police and advising her to get a restraining order against you, you will quit with this!"

*CLICK*

Sunburst was at first frustrated with the way she treated him but then remembered another thing she said. He remembered her referring to Starlight as Trixie's girlfriend. While Flash Sentry had earlier told him about her sexuality and who she was with he had a hard time believing it but now, he knew it was the complete truth. He then began to focus on what Starlight said earlier, that there was a girl that might go with him.

Since Sunburst had no idea how to get in touch with her, he decided that he would take a risk and go to her house again. Since it had been several hours since he was last there, he hoped that any hockey games Starlight may have been watching were over with so he once again began the long journey to Starlight's house.

When he got there and approached the door, he again heard another angry yell, "What are you, blind? He was out you fucking ump!"

Sunburst became nervous because once again it sounded like Starlight was watching sports and the officials were making calls she did not like. He knew that it wasn't hockey so he thought that maybe she wouldn't be so irritated if he wanted to talk to her. He knocked on the door and heard a less than pleasant yell, "You better not be who Trixie thinks you are."

Sunburst became nervous but knew that he couldn't just go hide and then go home if he wanted to get the information he wanted. When the door opened he would be greeted unpleasantly, "Look, Starlight said she isn't interested in you, ok?"

Before Trixie could get the door closed Sunburst replied, "I know. I just want to talk to Starlight about who that other girl is and then I promise I'll leave you two alone, alright?"

Trixie sighed in frustration, "Very well. Trixie shall see if she can tear Starlight away from her ballgame."

Trixie headed into the front room hoping that Starlight would not get too angry over what she was going to tell her, "Starlight, can I tell you something?"

Starlight knew that she had went to answer the door and had a bad feeling about who it was. She asked, "Don't tell me Sunburst is here, again."

Trixie replied, "He is but he wants to talk to you about that other girl you brought up. He said that he just wants to talk to you about her and then promised he would leave us alone."

This gave Starlight an idea. She knew that this time Sunburst wasn't there to hit on her and that if she told him about the girl and if she would go to the dance with him that she and Trixie would never have to worry about him disturbing them again. She said, "Have him come in so I can talk to him about this. If having him in here for a few minutes leads to us not having to deal with him anymore, it will be worth it."

Trixie returned to the door and motioned for Sunburst to come in. Trixie had a scowl on her face but Sunburst had a feeling that Starlight likely wouldn't be in as foul of a mood. When the two got into the front room, Starlight had her eyes glued on the TV. Sunburst wasn't sure if he would be able to get her attention but thought he would try, "Starlight, I'm wondering if we could talk about what you brought up earlier."

This got Starlight's attention, "You mean that other girl that might go to the dance with you." Sunburst nodded and Starlight continued, "You know Twilight Sparkle, right?"

"Yes, her and I study together all the time!"

"Why don't you ask her? You two have a ton in common so I'm sure she'll go with you."

"I don't know. I was talking to Flash Sentry and he told me that she shot him down. If she shot him down, I know I wouldn't stand a chance."

*sighs* "Sunburst, I don't know Twilight real well but I do know that those two have nothing in common. He is the popular boy who plays the guitar and is very extroverted. Twilight is probably just as introverted as you and like you, she is an academic type."

"I know but I'm really nervous that she might reject me."

"Sunburst, you came here and approached me over this when everyone knows Trixie and I are a couple so I wouldn't think approaching her would be any problem. Besides, I'm pretty sure she's single."

"I'm just nervous that she will reject me and won't want to be my study partner anymore."

Starlight was becoming frustrated with Sunburst but then began to think back to how it was when she first moved there from Vanhoover. She remembered how she had fallen for Trixie on day one but was so nervous to tell her how she felt. She remembered how it was one of the shy girls that she talked to that gave her the confidence to approach her and what that moment led to, her and Trixie living together as a loving couple.

Starlight then made a decision, a decision that she normally never would. She got up, turned off the TV and said, "Sunburst, come with Trixie and I. Twilight doesn't live too far away from us and if it will make you more comfortable, we will even go over there with you."

Trixie gasped, "We will?"

Starlight nudged her and whispered, "Look, maybe this is our way of not being disturbed anymore. If we're lucky, she'll go to the dance with him, fall in love and then she will be the one all his adoration goes to."

Trixie nodded and the two began to lead Sunburst out. Once they were headed to Twilight's house Sunburst couldn't help but feel optimistic that perhaps Twilight would say yes. While Twilight wasn't Starlight, he did find Twilight attractive and realized that unlike it is with Starlight, that he and Twilight had a lot in common and could relate on a level that he never could with Starlight, even if she were single.

Sunburst Get's a Date

View Online

For so long Sunburst had pursued Starlight and always either got the cold shoulder, got shot down or yelled at but now he was finally having a positive interaction with her. Given her nature, he was surprised when she actually turned off a ballgame to take him to meet a girl she was certain would go with him to the dance, Twilight Sparkle.

Once they got to Twilight's house Starlight pointed at the door and suggested, "Knock on her door."

He asked, "Can't you knock on the door instead? I'm afraid that she'll just reject me."

Starlight sighed, "Sunburst, she needs to know that it is YOU who wants to go with her. If she sees me first, she'll probably think you aren't truly sincere in your desire to go with her."

Sunburst nodded and approached the door. He was filled with nervousness as he knocked on the door, filled with worry that Twilight may simply not answer the door or that she would reject him. Not long after he knocked, the door was answered by Twilight.

"Sunburst, it is good to see you." She then saw who was with him and asked, "Starlight, Trixie, what are you two doing here?"

Starlight could see that Sunburst was getting very nervous and would soon come to the rescue, "Twilight, he wants to talk to you about something but is very nervous about it so Trixie and I are here for moral support."

Twilight knew that Starlight and Trixie neither one cared for Sunburst so this shocked her. She gasped, "You are?"

Trixie replied, "Yes we are." She tapped Sunburst on the shoulder and suggested, "Ask her, Starlight didn't shut her ballgame off for nothing!"

Sunburst was still very nervous but knew that he had to do this. He did like Twilight and also knew the fury that Starlight would go into if he chickened out and caused her to miss her game. He asked, "Uhm Twilight, I was wondering....I was wondering if you'd go with me to the...to the spring formal?"

Twilight got a huge smile on her face and asked, "Really, you're asking me to the spring formal?"

Sunburst could tell that Twilight was thrilled that he asked her, "Well yeah. Starlight said that you and I have a lot in common and suggested I ask you."

Twilight continued to smile and said, "Well that was nice of her and to answer your question, yes I'll go to the spring formal with you!"

Sunburst was ecstatic over her response, so much so that he embraced Twilight without even thinking. Twilight returned the embrace and exclaimed, "Finally! I was wondering if you were ever going to ask me about this!"

Sunburst asked, "Really? You've wanted me to ask you to the dance?"

Twilight exclaimed, "Well of course! Haven't you ever noticed the smiles and blushes I give you during our study sessions?"

All of a sudden memories of their prior study sessions came flooding into Sunburst's mind. She always had a smile on her face when they studied and tended to blush a fair amount. He then realized that had he not been so obsessed over a girl who he had nothing in common with that he could have had a girlfriend a long time ago. He knew he had to be honest when replying, "Well I guess I always had my eyes on Starlight and I never really noticed it."

Twilight gave him a smile, "Just think, had you not been so focused on Starlight, you could have had a girlfriend long ago." She then turned to Starlight and added, "Thank you so much for finally getting him to ask me to the dance. I've wanted this for so long."

Starlight replied, "It was just today that I finally realized that you would be perfect for him."

Trixie nudged her and added, "Had you thought about that earlier everyone would have been much happier."

Before Starlight could reply Sunburst turned to Twilight and suggested, "If you'd be ok with it, maybe us and Starlight and Trixie could double date."

Twilight agreed, "We could, that would be very fun." She then turned to the couple who brought them together and asked, "What would you two think about it? What would you think about double dating?"

Starlight had an unsure look on her face, "I'm not sure. Vanhoover has qualified for the playoffs and they might have a game...."

Trixie had finally had it with Starlight's hockey obsession. She let out an ear splitting screech, "I've had it Starlight! It seems like all you care about is your hockey team and I feel like you love them more than me!" Trixie calmed down a bit and it was clearly visible that she felt hurt, "Starlight, why do you always put hockey ahead of your girlfriend, why do you always put hockey ahead of me?"

Trixie had shown a bit of displeasure over her obsession before but that was at home out of view from others. Starlight was in a state of shock as not only was Trixie giving her a displeased look but so were Twilight and Sunburst. Starlight replied, "I'm sorry Trixie, it is just that when you come from Vanhoover, hockey is very...."

Trixie cut her off, "Starlight, I know hockey is very important but what about me? Is hockey more important than me, the girl you claim to love so much?"

The very fact that Trixie was speaking in the first person caused Starlight to realize that Trixie truly was hurt and that her hockey obsession could cause her to lose the one that she loved the most. She replied, "I'm sorry Trixie, I'm sorry that I've always seemed to put sports first." She turned to Twilight and Sunburst before adding, "Well if it is alright with Trixie, doing a double date could be fun."

Trixie threw herself around Starlight and exclaimed, "Of course The Great and Powerful Trixie is alright with it!"

Twilight was thrilled, "Alright, it looks like we have a date but if we're going to need a car and I'm not sure if any of us even have a license, much less a car."

The four began to look at one another and Trixie replied, "Well The Great and Powerful Trixie has a license but she will have to ask her mom if she can borrow her car."

Starlight asked, "Do you think she will let you use it?"

Trixie replied, "Well when Trixie's mom hears that you are finally putting Trixie ahead of hockey, she will be happy and will let Trixie use it." She then turned to Sunburst and Twilight, "And then we can all go to the dance together!"

Twilight and Sunburst began to cheer while Starlight had a surprised smile on her face. She never imagined that Trixie would be the one who would suddenly be so enthusiastic. Once they had calmed down a bit and Twilight and Sunburst had talked some more, Starlight let out a huge yawn, "Ugh I don't know about all of you but I'm beat."

Trixie wasn't sure if Starlight truly was tired or this was her way of saying that she wanted to cut this short. She commented, "But Starlight, it is a Friday night and we really should do something for Twilight and Sunburst to celebrate them having a date for the spring formal."

Starlight was really hoping to get home and maybe catch the last inning of the ball game but knew that with the way Trixie reacted earlier, that bringing that up would be a mistake. She replied, "Alright, let's do something special for them."

Trixie suggested, "Twilight, Sunburst, how about you come to our house and then Trixie can ask her mom if she can borrow her car and we could go out to eat!"

Sunburst was beyond happy that it seemed like the girls who hated him not that long ago were suddenly being very nice since he had a date for the dance. He replied, "I would love that." He turned to Twilight and asked, "What do you think?"

Twilight exclaimed, "I'd love that!" She then turned to the girls who got them together and added, "Thank you two so much! Thank you so much again for getting him to ask me to the dance."

Trixie replied, "No problem Twilight. It makes me happy to see the two of you happy." She looked back towards her house and suggested, "How about we get back to our place, have Trixie talk to her mom about using her car and then go grab a bite to eat."

As they headed towards Trixie's house, this was something that Sunburst never imagined would happen. He never once imagined that Starlight and Trixie would even want to spend any time with him for any reason. He also never imagined that they would help him find a date for the spring formal, a dance he had been wanting to go to ever since his freshman year. Finally he had a date for it and he felt truly happy.
