The origin story of the blind martial artist named Songbird.
In a land known as Kyoto, Japan a girl by the name of Songbird goes blind from a chemical accident and the loss of her brother Robbie, she is fueled by anger and rage to take down the Yakuza that have been going around messing around with the balance of everything.
A lone girl with snow white hair skipped around the sidewalk without a care in the world, tagging along her big brother Robbie who was wearing a flannel shirt with baggy pants and tennis shoes. His little sister giggled happily as today was a good day considering she was going to her very first Kyoto Parade she had to be excited.
"Easy Songbird you need to stay close to me" Robbie said catching up to his little sister.
"Sorry big brother" Songbird apologized.
Robbie petted the little girl before placing her on top of his head as they arrived just in time for the opening acts in the parade. Songbird watched giggling from today's entertainment, just seeing how beautiful and breathtaking those floats were. She couldn't believe how many people took a specific part in this wonderful event.
As the floats were coming and going Songbird noticed a tanker truck full of sulfuric acid driving erratically and heading down the street towards the parade floats. Robbie grabbed her hand, pulling Songbird away from the event.
"Big brother I want to watch the parade" Songbird whined trying to release herself from Robbie's grip but no such luck.
"Don't worry Songbird we'll watch the parade from a safe distance" Robbie promised his little sister as the driver was clearly under the influence of drugs.
The tanker truck overturned spatting out dangerous toxins into everyone around it. Frantic townspeople were so desperate in trying any means of escape that some got trampled just to escape whatever that toxin was. Songbird opened her eyes where toxic fumes clouded her eyesight, making it painful for the young girl as Robbie ran to get her some water to wash those fumes out.
Songbird screamed in pain some more, feeling her eyes fading faster even though she tried rubbing it. Robbie came out with a damp water cloth just in the nick of time and placed it on her eyes.
"It hurts..." Songbird cried out while crying a little bit from being in so much unbearable pain.
"I know but don't worry I'll take you straight to the hospital where they can have a look at you" Robbie said.
Picking up his little sister he ran out of the market place zipping past people. He didn't care about anyone giving him an insult because getting Songbird to an ER was way more important right now. Finally, Robbie arrived at the hospital's Emergency Ward where a bunch of nurses hauled Songbird on a gurney, rushing her to a room with Robbie close behind until he stopped to let the medical personnel give her proper treatment.
Please be ok Songbird Robbie thought pacing back and forth feverishly awaiting bad news from one of the doctors.
A few minutes later a doctor came in to meet Robbie. "Are you miss Songbird's guardian?"
"I'm her brother yes, now is she going to be okay?" Robbie asked getting straight to the point.
"Well we were able to place water to get rid of the irritation, we weren't able to repair her sight" the doctor reported feeling sympathetic with Robbie.
Robbie felt the emotions crashing on top of him at once. After their parents passed away he was the mother and father figure to Songbird. To see her like this made him feel like a failure as a brother.
"You can come see her if you want" the doctor offered.
With a heavy sigh, Robbie followed him to Songbird's room where she had a blindfold around her eyes. That sinking feeling Robbie was having earlier came back and most of the nurses could see it and one placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Big brother where are you?" Songbird sought out trying to find her brother.
"I'm right here little sis" Robbie answered holding her hand.
Songbird smiled, clutching her hand on his to signal that her big brother would always be with her.
"It is going to affect her everyday life from now on?" Robbie questioned looking over at the nurses.
They all nodded.
Robbie slowly up Songbird and carried her back to their home which was a small house in the deep quiet suburbs. He unlocked the door then set Songbird down so she could get a better viewing of her surroundings now that those fumes caused her blindness.
The burden was starting to set in for Robbie.
After a few days spent in the hospital Songbird carefully got off the bed then felt her way towards Robbie's leg.
"Big brother are we going home?" Songbird asked.
"Yes we're going home" Robbie declared holding back tears.
With wiped tears, Songbird along with her brother headed home.
2 Years later...
A hit landed Robbie into a brick wall as a member of the infamous Yakuza grabbed him by the neck angrily and forcefully.
"You have been avoiding us for quite some time now Robbie so I'll ask you again: Where is your little sister?" he forcefully asked.
"She's......not here" Robbie said choking from the grip.
The leader sent 2 of his boys inside the house to check if Robbie was telling the truth or not. One of them got knocked out by a single side kick to his head. Songbird grabbed the other one by his neck until you could hear a snapping sound before putting him down.
"Kanojo wa doko?" (Where is she?) he asked lifting Robbie a little higher.
"I don't know! Go fuck with someone else!" Robbie shouted trying to breathe.
"Wrong choice of words" he set him down then sucker punched him in the gut.
He fell to his hands and knees as the leader Satoshi kicked Robbie in the gut causing him to cough up blood on granite and a few pebbles. Satoshi landed his foot right on his windpipe, slowly starting to crush it. Robbie could feel his breathing coming at wits end even when he tried to push it upward but no dice.
"I want that blind girl you have to become a Yakuza member" Satoshi demanded from Robbie.
"You won't have her" Robbie declared.
All of a sudden Satoshi pulled out a loaded handgun and fired 2 shots into his chest not close to his heart but just enough to watch him bleed out.
"Burn in Hell Robbie" Satoshi said before walking away, leaving him to die.
Songbird rushed out after hearing those gunshots to feel Robbie's body turning cold. Tears began to fall as Songbird tried everything to stop the bleeding but it failed each time.
"Songbird...little sis...don't worry about me...I'll be ok....just be a...good...girl" Robbie said before succumbing to his injuries.
Rain began to fall, setting the scene that Robbie was dead leaving his little sister to fend for herself. In a fit of anger and sadness, Songbird screamed to the heavens to get Robbie back and she didn't care about getting her kimono drenched from the rain, all she wanted was her brother back.
Robbie....why did you have to go? Don't leave me here by myself! Come back to me!
She shot up quickly, breathing heavily and sweating profusely as if she had a bad dream even though she did. Songbird then walked downstairs to the living room where a picture of Robbie stood on the coffee table. Sighing after what happened, Songbird sat down eating a rice cake then feeling around for the remote before turning on the TV.
The news came on about Robbie's memorial last night that Songbird attended along with family members and friends of Robbie. A single tear fell down, giving her a reason to keep living even though her big brother is gone.
I have to find those Yakuza men and make them pay for what they did
Meanwhile in a secret underground bunker Satoshi was laughing among his other breathern and many of the female assassins who you could notice they had a little too much to drink.
"Looks like Rayni and Honda can't hold their drinks" Yaroi another female assassin said in between laughter.
Honda shot her a death glare, telling Yaroi to shut up or she'll never wake up again.
"Now now girls no need to fight among one another for I want you to retrieve a special girl" Satoshi stroked Honda's chin.
"What girl?" Yaroi asked taking a sip of sake.
"Her name is Songbird, don't kill her just knock her out so she can be one of us" Satoshi explained.
"Sounds pretty easy" Rayni interjected grabbing some tranquilizer darts and a gun.
Satoshi smiled looking at his most trusted assassins to handle one girl. One thing was certain: Songbird is going to be hunted down like an animal.
"Now go my deadliest ladies in the world" Satoshi commanded.
They left in the blink of an eye making a whooshing sound of wind picked up by their sudden movement.
Honda and Rayni jumped from rooftop to rooftop until they reached the Kyoto Mint where billions of dollars were made. These two assassins weren't in it for money this was merely a way to draw out that pest Songbird so Rayni or Honda could capture her and convert her into a Yakuza member.
"Causing a ruckus in the mint? Oh yeah this will surely bring Songbird in like a bird trapped in its cage" Honda said smirking.
Her partner Rayni smirked as well, looking far beyond to see 9 guards outside with weapons trained to kill anyone or anything that got 10 feet into the compound which seemed too difficult for a normal person but for Rayni this was child's play. She reached inside her backpack revealing a small laptop that pulled up the interior of the Kyoto Mint, showing what it looks like inside just generalized on a simulated version of this very building where they were going to draw out and capture Songbird.
"You sure this plan is going to work?" Rayni asked skeptical.
"Yes baka it will work because once we get that pesky Songbird, Satoshi will give us presents involving hot and steamy sex" Honda answered touching herself a little.
"Hey focus on the task at hand" Rayni said.
Honda broke from her sexual trance that made her soak a little putting on her black ninja face mask along with Rayni. Security staff walked every corner of the Kyoto Mint checking for any suspicious activity going on, soon enough Honda slipped out from the shadows attacking a guard with a hunting knife to his chest killing him instantly. One by one the 2 assassins made short work of security and all that was standing in their way was nothing but how much yen this Mint had.
"Alright that little pest should be coming any minute now so let's get somewhere to hide so we can surprise her" Rayni planned.
"Good idea" Honda agreed.
Meanwhile, high above her own house's rooftop Songbird looked up and closed her eyes to listen in for any potential danger that could be around. Her ears wiggled in as an alarm down at the Kyoto Mint facility had gone off signalling that someone is attempting to steal their money.
Not while I'm here Songbird grabbed her kitana that was in a case and jumped from her rooftop among them.
Songbird was hoping Satoshi had something to do with it seeing as wanted revenge after what those thugs did to Robbie. Sudden flashes of Robbie came into Songbird's mind that refused to let go because that was the only person who taught her about life in general and not follow the wrong people when making decisions.
"Satoshi you better hope I don't find you" Songbird promised herself, giving Satoshi a fair warning.
Arriving at the Kyoto Mint she could see dead security guards all over the floor.
Wonder how that happened? Songbird walked around the bush garden examining her surroundings.
A slight gust of wind blew flower petals that caused Songbird to shield herself but out jumped Rayni and Honda waiting to collect their pay. They tried to do a double roundhouse kick but Songbird dodged it, taking out her sword from its scabbard she swung. Rayni dodged it trying to put the girl to sleep by way of poison tip. Songbird barely avoided the attempt that only left a deep scratch through her kimono.
"How can you stand up against us even though your blind?" Honda asked baffled that she lasted longer than most.
"My eyesight may be gone but my other senses are very active" Songbird responded sharply.
Using her sword as support, she kicked both assassins in the face severing their noses while they went down. Songbird then drove her sword into Honda's chest pulling out her beating heart as Rayni watched in horror as one of her best friends just got killed by Songbird who sought out revenge for Robbie.
"Now I suggest you start talking or you'll end up like your friend here" Songbird threatened.
Her once clean kitana was now soaked in blood, dripping down on the ground like a leaking faucet. Rayni's mind raced with a thousand thoughts racing at top speed, making it harder for her to come up with a solution out of this current situation.
"W-W-What do you want to know?" Rayni asked shaking in fear.
"I want to know why Satoshi wants me. You better have an answer or I'll slice you like a bad newspaper" Songbird said coldly, lifting Rayni by the neck about 8 inches off the ground.
"Satoshi wants you because of your massive knowledge of 100 different styles of fighting. He wants that kind of power to take over Kyoto" Rayni said in between seeing her friend being killed right in front of her.
"Do you know where he is?" Songbird asked next.
Rayni shook her head, being truthful for once in her life but Songbird dropped the assassin to the ground with a small thud. Rayni rubbed her butt after being dropped like a piece of trash.
"You need to leave assassin or I'll have your head on a sliver platter" Songbird threatened, holding the sword in her face with the tip almost close to her Adams apple near the voice box.
She swallowed hard trying to keep that tough persona but it was slowly turning into fear considering Honda was just killed by a vengeance fueled Songbird who had no problem taking out Rayni but that just would be a waste and all she wanted was Satoshi's blood spilled just like he did to Robbie.
"Leave and never return" Songbird commanded.
Rayni with a bit of regret disappeared, leaving behind a puff of smoke for Songbird to reflect on.
Now that Satoshi's most loyal guards understand who lives and dies, it was high time that pompous ass Yakuza and give them a message they'll never forget.
Songbird left Honda's dead body as daybreak was upon them so with a blood stained sword she cleaned it before leaving.
Once I find Satoshi my soul will be healed knowing I wiped him clean from existence Songbird returned home and placed her sword near her family photo.
Even though she could no longer see, her other senses would kick in as a way to give Songbird peace of mind and an advantage in a fight. Letting out a heavy sigh, the sightless girl went into the kitchen to fix herself a plate of white rice and shrimp with some sweet tea. As she was preparing that, a sudden crashing sound caused her ears to twitch then look up quickly not moving to hear any other strange noises.
Darting forward was a Yakuza member trying to surprise Songbird, she back punched the member that knocked him down flat on his back struggling to stand but she put her foot on his neck.
"Talk!" Songbird commanded.
"Ok ok I'll talk! Satoshi found out you killed one of his assassins. He sent me to apprehend you so he could kill you. That's all I know! I swear that's all I know!" he pleaded begging for his life.
"Where is his base located?" Songbird demanded, adding a little bit more pressure to his throat.
"His base is located in the city of Kyoto's most famous nightclubs" he said in between breathing.
"Thank you for your cooperation" Songbird said before crushing his neck with the heel of her foot until a crack of bone could be heard.
At least now I know where I can find the asshole so I have revenge for what he did to Robbie
Songbird stood in front of the nightclub titled Most Wanted which is a club exclusively for Yakuza members or people who have nerves of steel in order to survive.
He is going to pay dearly for what he's done she pulled out her sword ready for a fight.
Inside the club Rayni laid snuggled under Satoshi's arm for protection. After what just happened a day ago she was glad that pest Songbird wasn't around to spoil this wonderful moment. Satoshi stroked her hair reassuring Rayni that no harm will come to her or anyone else because of Songbird's blinded rage for revenge against them.
"Don't worry Rayni that blind bitch won't lay one finger on you" Satoshi said reassuringly.
Then all of a sudden sounds of screaming could be heard from outside along with blood on the painted windows. Every member stopped to look at the commotion then to see Songbird step in with blood covering half of her face and kimono. Her sword dripped blood in a stunned silence at what they were looking at.
Satoshi ordered one of his men to take Rayni while he handled the blind girl herself in what was about to be a heated fight for redemption for Songbird's brother Robbie.
"So you're finally here Bird, you know I never anticipated for some blind bitch to come storming in here and think she's bad ass because blood is all over you. Guess what? That only works in TV and fucking comic books but this is reality" Satoshi explained.
Songbird stared at him with no expression at all.
"Got nothing witty to say? I expected something philosophical to come out of your cake hole but I guess I was proven wrong....again" Satoshi continued.
He pulled out a gun and began to fire bullets at Songbird, she blocked all major attempts to harm her with gunshots. Satoshi threw down the gun down and tried charging at her to get the jump on her but a sudden piercing of the body's organs and Satoshi bled from his mouth gripping at Songbird's sword in between choking on his own blood before the blind girl let go thus making him fall to the ground lifeless. Blood stained the once clean hard tile floor was now crawling with Satoshi's blood.
It is done Songbird put her sword away then walked away before cops arrived.
She stood on the rooftop with clean clothes on, watching as cops condemned that nightclub.
"Seems that your revenge went as how you saw fit" said a voice that sounded all too familiar.
"Who's there?" Songbird asked looking around before feeling a hot heat signature from about 5 inches from her.
"Be at ease thy does not want to fight. Hear me out, I am forming a group of the world's most talented fighters to stop an ancient evil that is coming" Luna explained.
"How can I trust you Luna?" Songbird asked skeptical of the lunar princess sudden arrival.
Luna put her sword down and put her hands up in surrender. "You wouldn't hurt someone who was unarmed. I hear that in your jurisdiction that is considered unhonorable"
Songbird couldn't argue with that logic plus attacking a person unarmed is not honorable and a violation to the Japan fighting culture.
"Alright so who else will join us?" Songbird questioned.
"I don't know yet but I'm glad your on board with this Miss Songbird" Luna said.
Did you hear that Robbie? I'm going to be on a team to bring peace to this world Songbird looked up smiling.
Luna watched in awe as they hauled away any remaining Yakuza members inside police cruisers. Songbird somehow felt the pit of her stomach drop a few points as flashes of Satoshi dying couldn't escape her mouth.
"I was blinded by revenge to think about my actions before doing them" Songbird said.
"In life we make certain choices in our lives but some of those choices end up destruction and death of whoever decides to throw themselves into the fire" Luna began, "It is the duty of humans to figure out what choice will cause the least bloodshed. There are 2nd chances in life and Songbird this is your chance to redeem yourself"
Songbird knew an opportunity like this wasn't going to be around forever so with a nod, she got up as a soft gentle wind blew around her and Luna.
"Princess Luna it would be an honor to join you in a never ending quest to save the world and also I wish to do so without spilling blood" Songbird proclaimed placing one hand over her chest.
Luna was pleased with the blind girl's proclamation which made her a even greater contender for this team.
