The Cave

"So.. If Starswirl's book is correct, The Cave of Flame should be right around here,"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes..?"

"Why do you seem uncertain?".

"Well, um.. it seems he didn't write exactly where it might be..".

Luna shot her a frown.

"So Starswirl isn't the best writer ever.."

"Ugh,"

The book Starswirl wrote was filled with all of his adventures to the many secret lands of Equestria waiting to be discovered. He gave it to Celestia a long time ago after the banishment of Nightmare Moon and told her to try and check out all the places he discovered before he vanished from Equestria. Until now, nopony knows whatever happened to him, so visiting the Cave of Flame, which was Starswirl's favorite place according to the book, is very important the her.

"But we made it all the way here.. it shouldn't hurt to try and explore!". Celestia exclaimed, trying to stay positive.

"You owe me a lot of cake when we get home, sister".

The forest was thick, too thick for the two sisters to navigate.

“Are you sure nothing in there says anything on how to find it?”.

”I’m sure we can find it, it only says the cave gives out a crimson-red glow that can be seen when we get a little closer to the cave”.

"A crimson-red glow?"

"Yes, it is a result of the many magical red crystals glowing from the depths of the cave, *sigh* if only Starswirl explained how to get there, I want to see it as soon as possible!".

The young one sighed, tired from all the walking.

“I thought we’d go somewhere else other than a lame cave”.

“Pshh, what are you talking about Luna? It’s not lame, the book said that the crystals could be a source of power to certain alicorns”.

“And is it the good kind of power or the bad kind?”.

“I… um… don’t really know”

Celestia gave a sheepish smile. Luna rolled her eyes.

They continued walking and finally spotted a faint crimson-red glow.

“Told you”.

They quickly approached the glow and saw an alluring enormous cave filled with red crystals.

“It’s, amazing”.

They both looked at it with awe.

“Come my sister, let’s go”.

“Just watch your step, they may be dangerous”. Luna exclaimed.

“How can something like this be dangerous?”

"Just, making sure".

Celestia mysteriously felt powerful here. It was like she was 'connected' to the cave somehow, as if they shared a bond. She never felt like anything like that before. It felt… Great.

A certain crystal caught Celestia’s eye.

”Look at this one!”.

Luna turned to her sister,

”It looks exactly the same as the other crystals” She said, in a blank tone.

Celestia pulled the tiny crystal out of the rock with her magic, “I’m going to keep this”.

”But what if it’s dangerous? You can’t just bring that home!

”But why?”.

Luna groaned, “You don’t get it, what if it’s.. Well, the point is, you can never expect something you just pulled out of some random cave to be perfectly safe!”.

Celestia scoffed at her.

“I will take care of it”.

Luna reluctantly agreed, she looked closer at the crystal and observed a fire pattern on it. She picked it up with her magic to have a closer look. Before she could do anything Celestia’s magic took over and she snatched it from her sister.

”IT’S MINE!!” she yelled, in a very juvenile manner and ran to a corner of the cave.

An awkward silence fell upon the cave. One pony sitting in the corner, and another standing there in confusion. As if Celestia wouldn’t move from that spot unless somepony said so.

“Celie?”, Luna piped up, breaking the silence.

She didn’t reply.

“Hello? Equestria to Celestia?”.

Nothing either.

“CELESTIA???!”.

This time it caught the alicorn’s attention,

“WHAT?!"She exclaimed

Luna stood there in silence. That response could probably be heard all the way from here to Canterlot.

"Did you know I was in the middle of something IMPORTANT?!” She continued, acting very annoyed.

Luna decided to defend herself,“You call sitting in a corner and doing nothing important?”.

“I was observing the CRYSTAL!”.

Luna stood there for a second, then turned around.

”Well, I guess that is important”, She replied sarcastically.

She started walking to the exit of the cave,

"Where are you going?"

"Back to Canterlot..?"

"Already?"

"Yes.. We do have duties to do, Celestia. We can't just stay here for the rest of the day".

"Can't we just stay here a little longer?"

“Let’s just head home”, Luna replied in a very stern tone.

"Ugh! Why must we be princesses anyway?!", She whined.

Then, Luna flew out of the cave and Celestia reluctantly followed.

As they flew out of the forest, Celestia spoke up.

“Just so you know, Luna. You can NOT touch this crystal. EVER.”.

Luna rolled her eyes at her.

She was surprised that her sister's attitude became very temperamental, and decided to question her.

"Why are you acting like this?",She asked worriedly.

"Acting like what?"

"Oh, I don't know, acting VERY obsessive?! and being easily ticked off-"

"Oh, I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you're just jealous that I have a magical crystal with me and you don't! Go grab one for yourself, can't you?"

"I'm not!- ugh, nevermind. Just stay quiet for pony's sake!".

"Hmph!", Celestia exclaimed and started to fly faster, cutting Luna's path.

Luna decided to catch up with her.

"You know, if there's something wrong, you can tell me," She said in a more relaxed tone.

"Nothing's wrong with me! Something is definitely wrong with YOU!". She exclaimed and flew even faster.

"Oh, really?! You are the one with the temper here!!!!".

Luna decided to ignore her, while Celestia decided to stay quiet for the rest of the trip back home.

"sigh," Luna exclaimed.

"Something is definitely wrong with her," She whispered quietly, " And I thought I was the younger one".

A purple alicorn trotted to the castle gates. It was surrounded with royal guards. All of them were in two lines, leaving a gap in the middle that was leading to the entrance, waiting for the return of the two sisters.

Two figures then appeared in the sky, not far from where they were standing.

"Princess, look!" A royal guard cried out, who caught Twilight's attention.

She squinted her eyes to figure out what they were. She saw a white and dark blue alicorn approaching the castle, certain in her head that they were Celestia and Luna.

"It's them!" Twilight exclaimed joyfully, bringing a smile to all the guards standing there.

Celestia and Luna touched down in front of Twilight and the guards. Twilight bowed down in respect, so did Luna. Celestia was too busy observing her souvenir to even bother.

After all that, the guards reassembled and went off their seperate ways neatly.

Twilight spoke up,
“You guys are back! So, how was it??" Twilight exclaimed with joy and curiosity.
“It was rather, fascinating Twilight” Luna replied with a smile.

She looked at her sister, who was still constantly admiring the crystal. Her smile faded, and replaced it with an annoyed look.

“Ahem?”.

Celestia turned around, “Um.. Yeah it was nice”. She then turned around again to admire the crystal and proceeded to walk inside to the castle. Twilight and Luna exchanged their worried glances.

“What’s gotten into her?” Twilight spoke up with worry.
”I.. don’t know, that was a tiny crystal from the cave we visited earlier, I don’t know why Celestia was acting odd since she found it," Luna glanced back at the castle.
Twilight started to look a bit more worried, "How odd?".
Luna looked back at Twilight, "Very," Luna exclaimed.
Twilight got even more worried,"Oh my," She exclaimed quietly.

Luna hung her head low.

"I'm afraid that there could be something sinister inside that crystal," She exclaimed.
Twilight gave a shocked look on her face,"Sinister? Oh come on Luna, she could be letting stress get into her," Twilight replied, trying to lighten the mood.
Luna glanced at her for a second, then looked away, "She wouldn't explain the random tantrums she throws every few minutes,Twilight. She's gotten ticked off easily lately.." Luna replied in disappointment.
"Well, that doesn't sound like her at all..." Twilight replied, regaining the memories of how patient and kind Celestia was during those days where she was in her School for Gifted Unicorns.

Luna continued to hang her head low again.

Twilight replied, “I think you’ve better have a look at it, just to make sure everything's okay- but it’s getting late, or isn’t it supposed to get late?”.

Luna gave a shocked face, and turned to look outside.

“Oh wait, I’m supposed to raise the moon!”. She exclaimed, then ran towards the castle.
"Goodbye Twilight!" Luna exclaimed before going in.
"Oh! Um,Bye! I need to go back to Ponyville as well!" Twilight exclaimed as she headed to the train station.

“Tia? Where are you?”. Luna looked around the castle halls, scanning every room in the castle.

She then ran to her room, and spotted Celestia just, standing there looking at the crystal that she placed in front of the fireplace she had. Luna was confused, even Philomena gave her a strange look from her porch.

“Celestia what are you doing in here?! We need to get out there!” She exclaimed as she attempted to drag her sister out of the room.

Celestia turned around with a frown,“Right, let’s go and, get this over with” She exclaimed.

"Good," Luna said as she ran out the door.

Celestia stood up to leave, then glanced back at her crystal.
She started to lift the crystal up with her magic, but Luna caught her and took over the crystal.

”THAT, is not coming,” She exclaimed sternly as she placed the crystal back where it was, glaring at it with disgust.

She then ran out the door once more. Celestia turned around and looked at it one last time, before she reluctantly left her room.

Luna arrived at the balcony where they raise and lower the sun and moon. Her sister followed. She waited for her sister to lower the sun.

“Any minute now”,she whispered quietly, just loud enough for Celestia to hear.

Nothing happened.

A minute passed, Luna finally faced her sister and saw her Celestia’s eyes glowing red. She wasn't moving either, she only stood still, looking off into the sun.

”Celestia?! Are you okay?!” Luna exclaimed with worry.

Celestia shook off the glow.

”I-I’m fine,” She exclaimed as she focused once again and ignited her horn.

She let her magic lower the sun as Luna raised the moon. After that, a brief silence fell upon them.

"Are you sure you’re fine?” Luna checked one last time.
”Yes I‘m sure,” Celestia replied walked back inside, proceeding to her room. Luna was suspicious and yet, worried about her sister’s mysterious behaviour.

"You've been acting very odd since you got that thing," Luna spoke up as they walked together.
Celestia looked at her sister for a bit, then she looked forward again.
"You didn't even greet Twilight when we got back from that cave," She said again, trying to catch her attention.
"Do we have to go through this again?!" Celestia snapped at her with fury.

Luna only stood dead in her tracks, dumbfounded.

"I do not want to hear any of this, ever again," Celestia exclaimed as she angrily trotted back to her room.
"Fine!" Luna exclaimed as they parted ways.

She started heading to her room, but she suddenly thought of a plan to find out what was going on with her sister and the crystal she was obsessed with.

“That’s it," Luna exclaimed with a smirk as the plan formed in her mind. “I’m getting that crystal tonight”.

Midnight Sabotage

The moon glimmered above the capital of Equestria. Luna quietly left her room, closing the door very quietly. She was wearing a dark blue coat, with a few black spots near her flank that continued to proceed down to her hooves. Her wings were folded inside, her face was covered with her hood, with with only her horn sticking out of her head. She was ready, determined to stop what was going on with her sister.

“Let’s do this”.

She tiptoed quietly through the hallway and made a left. She spotted guards patrolling the hallways of the castle. Luna was making sure she wasn't seen from behind a wall.

"Ugh, I hope this works," She whispered quietly under her breath as she ignited her horn.

She ignited her horn, and cast a sleeping spell she found earlier in the Canterlot Library. She looked at each guard as they slowly fell asleep. Luna smiled at her accomplishment and continued walking to her sister’s room. A few minutes later she reached her door.

“Okay Luna, just simply take the crystal, and leave in peace,” She said to herself quietly to reassure herself.

She opened the door and saw her sister sleeping in her bed. The crystal was just sitting there on top of the fireplace she had in her room near her bed. Philomena, her phoenix however was nowhere to be found. She would usually sleep in her cage hung from the ceiling.

She was about pick up the crystal quietly and leave, but then it vanished, so did Celestia.

“What?!” She exclaimed as she froze.

The fire ignited, and she turned around. Before her was a furious Celestia in a corner with her crystal.

“You came in the middle of the night, to steal this from me?!" She yelled with her Royal Canterlot Voice, in a very angered tone as she levitated the crystal near her. "How dare thee! Stealing from Equestria's ruler?!" She continued.

Luna froze and stared at her in fear. She made sure she wasn't moving at all. Unfortunately, Celestia came closer and lifted her hood.

"Luna?!" She exclaimed as she saw her younger sister. Luna could only look at her with a guilty face.

"So, you were after this crystal," She exclaimed as she circled around her.

Luna kept quiet. Her hed hung low, and her eyes were closed.

"Are you jealous or something?!" She exclaimed, as she prepared to tell her off.

Luna finally spoke up.

"I CAME HERE TO HELP YOU!" She exclaimed. Celestia backed up a little, her face looked shocked for a moment, but she managed to return to her angered face.

"I WAS WORRIED! OKAY?!" She said as tears began to pour from her eyes. "You've been acting like this since you left! I-it's not normal!" Luna continued.

Celestia remained angry at her.

"This crystal has nothing to do with this!" She replied, "You will not take this from me, you will never get it!" She exclaimed and ran out the door.

”WAIT! STOP!” Luna exclaimed and chased after her.

Celestia ran as fast as she could. Luna was slowly keeping up. Celestia continued running, Luna was near her, but Celestia teleported. and escaped.

Luna stopped dead in her tracks.

“Where did she go?” She exclaimed as she searched for her sister.

She teleported to the throne room, where she surprisingly found her. She stood on her throne, looking at Luna who appeared in the middle of the room.

"Oh, so you decided to see the show," Celestia exclaimed as she saw Luna's tiny figure appear from her throne.

Luna turned around and faced Celestia. Her eyes were glowing red, just like it did before, hours ago.

"Celestia.. please.." She begged for the crystal.

Celestia looked at her with disgust.

"I need to find out what's wrong with it! I can help you!" She exclaimed.

"You don't know anything about this crystal, you fool," She exclaimed as she levitated the crystal.

"Neither do you! We can figure this out together! But I need you! Sister.." Luna's voice echoed across the room. and started walking towards her.

Celestia finally started to calm down. Her eyes were no longer glowing red. She looked down and thought about what she was doing.

"Don't listen to her.. She just wants it to become more powerful than you.." A voice inside Celestia whispered to her.

Celestia tried to fight back that mysterious voice.

"We can figure this out, sister," Luna exclaimed as she continued approaching her throne.

Celestia looked at her, still uncertain.

"Trust me," She said as she held a hoof up.

Celestia looked at her, her eyes were beginning to fill up with tears. But that voice was too strong. She declined the offer and turned around.

"No.." She said under her breath.

Luna's heart was shattered.

"Sister..?" She asked quietly. She didn't know what to expect.

”You’re too late now..” Celestia exclaimed as she held the Crystal before her. Her eyes glowed red again.

"Oh no.."
