Princess Of The Sky
Rainbow Dash sat on a borrowed cloud looking out over the small town of Ponyville. She had just awakened from a nap and in her newly fresh mind, she began to think.
"All these ponies down below me. Do they know who I really am? All these years and they still don't know. I'm surprised they haven't figured it out. Not even my friends know about me.
"I've kept this secret from them for a long, long, time. They must never know. For if they do, it will change our friendship forever, and I do love them all so very much.
"You see, I am not a simple pony. I am a Pegasus yes, but I am not just any Pegasus.
"Have you ever wondered why I have a rainbow mane, as opposed to other ponies with single or dual colored ones? Have you ever wondered why I am so fast?
"My arrogant, temperamental, violent self is only a facade. Who I really am became clear once I got my Cutie Mark.
"Back when I was a filly, I protected my friend Fluttershy from some bullies that were messing with the poor mare. I challenged them to a race and won, with the help of the sonic rainboom, which in turn, gave me my Cutie Mark, and, as I later learned, gave my friends their Cutie Marks, as well.
"I did not always have my rainbow-colored mane either. It was once a simple red, until I gained my Cutie Mark, at which point it gained the extra colors.
"It was when I got my Cutie Mark that I was taken in by Spitfire, leader of the Wonderbolts, a group of my followers that were masquerading as a flight performance team in Ponyville.
"It was through her that I learned the ways of grace and poise, as well as what it takes to actually be royalty.
"It turned out that my rainbow mane was a trait possessed by a line of royalty that was thought long dead a long time ago with the last being one of my ancestors.
"They were all surprised that the bloodline was still alive.
"Spitfire was my closest aide, and Soarin, my first and only love.
"Only Celestia and Luna knew of my true identity, as they were the ones who informed the Wonderbolts about it. Apparently, I was a part of the "Order of The Rainbow".
"As it turns out, and as I said before, The Wonderbolts were actually a group of my followers formed by Celestia to prepare for my "coming of age", as they called it. It was actually my Cute-ceanera party, which Pinkie Pie threw, of course.
"I was told to stay in Ponyville until I was old enough to fully assume the responsibilities of a princess.
"My 'fascination' with the Wonderbolts was really just a desire to assume my duties as soon as possible. But, like all destinies, that had to wait. I could only come when the time was right.
"And when it finally did happen, I was ecstatic. I couldn't wait to rule the skies of Equestria and make Spitfire and the others proud of me. But, my excitement was short lived when I was told I had to stay with her to learn more about the ways of royalty.
"I was able to take time away from my studies to go and see Twilight Sparkle's coronation along with all of our other friends. I was a little jealous, of course. After all, here she was, an honest to goodness princess, and I still had to undergo learning.
"I am a princess-in-training, in a sense. While my rainbow mane and wings give me Royal status, I am not like Celestia or Luna, who have had years of experience. Nor am I like Chrysalis, who inherited the hive mind once she was passed the mantle of queen.
"I am more like Princess Cadence of the Crystal Empire, although I am lacking a king to rule by my side at the moment.
"According to Spitfire, I am to wed Soarin once my studies are complete, solidifying my ascension to princess properly.
"Ever since becoming royalty, I have opted to stay near Ponyville. Much like my fellow princess, Twilight Sparkle. I wish to be near my friends and to be there for them.
"While there, I met a Pegasus filly by the name of Scootaloo. She was adorable and saw me as her idol. I grew to love her as much as she loved me, and I was happy to take her in as my little sister and care for her.
She hangs out with her two friends Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, Rarity and Apple Jack's little sisters. When she told me she finally got her Cutie Mark, I nearly cried I was so happy. But of course due to my constant portrayal of myself as a 'cool and awesome' mare, I had to hold it back until we were alone.
"On the day I received my Element, the Element of Loyalty, my desire to stay was only made stronger. Not only did I not desire to leave my friends, who I consider the best things to ever happen to me, but I could not leave them for fear of leaving powerless the Elements. thus making Ponyville vulnerable to much danger
"On the day we lost the elements, I had no idea what I was going to do. Would I have to leave my friends? Would we be able to win without them? What was i to do? Would I have to reveal myself as a princess? But then our magic returned tenfold with the birth of friendship magic, and all was well once again.
"It has been years since then, and I have long since earned my throne. In a few months I will be married to Soarin and together we will rule the skies as prince and princess.
I can't wait to see my friends faces when I tell them I am Princess of the Sky.
