Love at first sight

View Online

Thunderstruck walked up to the front doors of Canterlot high. His family had just moved to Canterlot, and today was his first day of school. To say that Thunderstruck was not the least bit thrilled about going to a new school would be an understatement.

Thunderstruck took a deep breath. “Just relax, stay focused, and this day will be over.” He thought to himself. He looked over his clothes, a black T-shirt with a silver lightning bolt on the front, faded blue jeans, and black sneakers, to make sure there weren’t any imperfections. The last thing Thunderstruck wanted was to look like a slob. He put his backpack over his right shoulder and walked towards the door when suddenly he was stopped.

“Hiya! You must be the new student!” A girl with pink hair who seemingly came out of nowhere said. “My name is Pinkie Pie, and I’m here to welcome you to Canterlot high!”

Thunderstruck was both confused and little scared. “Um, nice to meet you. My name is Thunderstruck.”

“Wow, what a super cool name! You’ll be shadowing me today so that you can get a feel for the school. I’ll even introduce you to my friends!”

“That sounds great-” Before Thunderstruck could finish, Pinkie grabbed him by the hand dragged him off at top speed.

Meanwhile Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze, and Sonata Dusk all sat in the principal's office. Principal Celestia sat behind her desk while vice principal Luna stood beside her.

“Thank you again for meeting with us principal Celestia.” Adagio said graciously. “We appreciate you giving us a second chance.”

“Obviously you understand my concern.” Celestia said. “The last time the three of you were here, you turned the musical showcase into a battle of the bands.”

“And put nearly the whole school under a spell.” Luna added.

“But we’ve changed!” Said Aria. “Our amulets have been destroyed, so we no longer have any magical powers.”

“Yep! We’re just normal teenage girls!” Sonata said with a smile.

Celestia tapped her chin. “Hmm. Well, I have given other students who’ve caused chaos another chance, so I’m willing to do the same with you three. But know this, you will be watched.”

The three stood up and Adagio shook Celestia’s hand. “Thank you very much principal Celestia. You won’t regret this.” Adagio, Aria, and Sonata then left the office.

“Are you sure we can trust them?” Luna asked.

“I don’t know.” Celestia replied. “But just to be safe, I think it's best that we have them secretly monitored.”

Once outside the office, Adagio dropped the good girl act. “I can’t believe that worked.”

“Yeah, Celestia and Luna are way too trusting.” Aria said. “Now we can move on with our plan.”

“Yeah. Wait, what was it again?” Sonata asked.

Both Adagio and Aria facepalmed. “To get back our powers, you half wit.” Adagio said with an irritated voice.

“Oh right! Now I remember. But can we wait until the end of the week? Tomorrow is taco tuesday.”

Adagio and Aria just sighed and rolled their eyes.

After following Pinkie around all day to class, Thunderstruck had gained a pretty good layout of the school. “I just have one last thing to show you!” Pinkie said with a big smile. She then led Thunderstruck into the music room, where Twilight, Sunset, Rainbow, Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy were getting ready for practice.

“Everyone, this is the new student Thunderstruck. Thunderstruck, these are my friends Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy!” Each of the girls said hello.

“Hi!”

“Nice to meet you!”

“What’s up?”

“Howdy!”

“Greetings darling!”

“Hey” Fluttershy said in a hushed voice.

Thunderstruck waved at them. “Hi. So, I see that you all have instruments. Are you in a band?”

“You bet! We’re the Rainbooms!” Rainbow said.

“Cool. I play guitar, but I left it at home.”

“Here.” Applejack lent Thunderstruck her guitar. “Show us what ya got.”

“It’s nothing much. But how’s this?” Thunderstruck then proceed to play.

The girls applauded. “Thunderstruck, you’re amazing!” Said Twilight.

Thunderstruck blushed as he handed Applejack her guitar back. “Thanks.”

“Indeed, you are very good.” Everyone turned to see principal Celestia standing in the doorway. “I trust that you had a good first day?”

Thunderstruck nodded. “Yes I did principal Celestia.”

“Good. Sunset, Twilight, I need to speak with you two for a moment.”

Sunset and Twilight followed Celestia into the hallway. “What is it principal Celestia? Are we in trouble?” Twilight asked.

“No, not at all.” Celestia said reassuringly. “The truth is that I need your help. The sirens have returned.”

Twilight adjusted her glasses. “Um, who are the sirens?”

“Exactly what their name implies.” Sunset explained. “They are outcast from Equestria who tried to use their music to hypnotize the school and steal it’s magic until the I, the Rainbooms, and my worlds Twilight defeated them in a battle of the bands.”

“Oh. Ok then.”

“Anyway.” Principal Celestia continued. “I suspect that they might be up to something. They may not have their powers, but I still want to make sure. That is why I am asking the two of you to keep an eye on them.”

“But why us?” Sunset asked.

“Because you defeated them the last time. I know that you were not here for that Twilight, but you’ve got magic in you all the same and I really need your help.”

Twilight saluted principal Celestia. “You can count on us!”

The sirens stood outside of the library. “Darn it! The door is locked!” Adagio said in frustration.

“So? Just bust it down” Said Aria.

“Because one: I don’t have my magic, and two: we need to be discrete. We can’t afford to raise suspicion.”

“Why do we need to get into the library anyway?” Sonata asked.

Adagio closed her eyes while she rubbed the bridge of her nose. She then let out a deep sigh. “Because in that library is an ancient book that can restore our powers. I can sense it.”

“We’ll have to try again tomorrow when the library is open.” Aria said. “But we still need to find a way around that Miss Cheerilee.”

Meanwhile, Sunset and Twilight both watched the trio from behind a corner down the hall.

“What do think they’re talking about?” Twilight asked.

Sunset narrowed her eyes. “I don’t know, but it can’t be good.”

At that moment, they were approached by Thunderstruck. “Hey there you are. I had a question about-” Thunderstruck paused in mid-sentence. That is when he saw her. A girl with blue hair, pink jacket, and matching skirt and boots. For Thunderstruck, time completely stopped as he looked at her.

Twilight waved her hand in front of Thunderstruck’s face. “Hello? Anybody home?”

Thunderstruck snapped out of his daze. “Who is that?”

“Who are you talking about?” Sunset asked.

“The girl with the blue hair.”

Sunset looked back over at the sirens. “Oh, that’s Sonata Dusk. She’s, uh, a new student here like you.”

“Sonata.” A warm smile appeared on Thunderstuck’s face as he said her name. “That’s a very pretty name.” His heart began to beat a mile a minute as he continued to look at her.

Twilight bit her lower lip as she turned to Sunset. “I think we may have a problem.

First impressions

Sunset and Twilight waited in front of the school for Thunderstruck. “So, what are we going to do?” Twilight asked.

“I don’t know. It’s clear that the sirens are up to something. But now the new guy has a crush on Sonata. I really think we should warn him.”

At that moment, Rarity just happened to be walking by and overheard their conversation. “Thunderstruck has a crush on Sonata Dusk? Oh, that is just adorable!”

Sunset immediately tried to shush her. “Can you keep it down? And have you forgotten that Sonata tried to drain the school of all of its magic?”

Rarity just waved her off. “But her powers are gone now. And besides, I think it’s cute that Thunderstruck has a crush. This could really help him to adjust to being the new student here.”

Twilight gave Rarity an uneasy look. “Thunderstruck deserves to know the truth. He’s going to find out eventually.”

“Find out about what?”

Sunset, Rarity, and Twilight all jumped in surprise when Thunderstruck walked in on their conversation out of nowhere. “I’m sorry for scaring you like that.” Thunderstruck said. “But it sounds like you want to tell me something?”

Sunset stepped forward. “Yeah, we wanted to tell you that...we want you to jam with us in music room!”

Rarity and Twilight both looked on with shock.

“That sounds great! I even brought my guitar with me today.” Thunderstruck removed his guitar from it’s case to show it off. It was a black Fender Stratocaster with lightning bolts.

“Also, I was hoping that you could help introduce me to Sonata. I’m not very social, and I don’t usually make good first impressions.”

Twilight was about to speak when Rarity cut her off. “We would love to Darling. Come with us and we’ll talk about it.” Thunderstruck walked off with Rarity and Sunset while Twilight rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile, the sirens were in the library searching for the ancient book while trying not to raise suspicion.

“So, which one of these books is supposed to give us back our powers?” Aria asked.

“When you see it, you’ll know” Adagio said. The trio eventually arrived at the archives section. There, they found what they were looking for. Behind a glass case was an ancient book, it’s cover weathered and slightly torn. The title letters were somewhat faded, but they read ANCIENT SPELLS AND ARCANE MAGIC.

Sonata noticed noticed that the case was locked. “Great, now what?”

The three then noticed Miss Cheerilee. They went over to her and Aria tapped her on the shoulder. “Excuse me, but we’re interested in checking out that book in the glass case. Could you unlock it for us please?” She asked with pleading eyes.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t have the key.” Miss Cheerilee said. “Only Principal Celestia has it, and she only gives it out upon special request.”

Adagio, Aria, and Sonata walked away. “This is proving harder than I thought.” Adagio said.

“Girls, I’ve been thinking.” Sonata said. “Maybe we don’t need our powers back. I mean, is living like a regular teenage girl really so bad?”

“Are you crazy?!” Aria replied with a sneer. “We are supposed to be immortal sirens! These people are supposed to be our food! Are you saying that you’re happy living as cattle?”

Adagio stepped in between the two of them. “Enough! The three of us are needed to perform this spell and get our powers back, this much I know.” Adagio then turned and faced Sonata. “Until Aria and I are ready to perform the spell, I suggest you stay out of our way. Go and play with the humans. We don’t need you screwing things up for us.”

As Adagio and Aria walked away, Sonata felt like she was going to cry. Adagio and Aria were the only friends/family that she had ever known, but lately they felt like they were drifting apart. Sonata felt alone.

Thunderstruck walked with Rarity down the hallway in between class. “So, can you really help me out with Sonata?” He asked.

“Of course I can darling!” Rarity said with a smile. “All we need is a proper plan.” She then noticed Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Sunset, and Twilight. “And I know just who to consort with.”

Rarity and Thunderstruck met up with the others and explained what was going on. “So, do you girls have any ideas that can help?” Rarity asked.

Fluttershy was about to speak, but Applejack cut her off.

“Just be honest with her.”

Fluttershy tried to speak again, only to be cut off by Rainbow

“No, show her that you rock!”

Fluttershy tried to speak a third time, but was cut off by Pinkie Pie.

“Try and make her laugh!”

Thunderstruck then noticed Fluttershy trying to speak. “Do you have an idea Fluttershy?”

“Um, you could just talk to her.”

Thunderstruck rubbed the back of his head. “But I’m too nervous to even approach her.”

“I have a plan” Sunset said with a smile.

At lunchtime, Sonata sat in the cafeteria all by herself. “Oh, she looks so sad!” Said Rarity.

“Alright everyone, remember the plan.” Sunset led Thunderstruck and The Rainbooms over to Sonata’s table. “Hey! Mind if we sit with you?”

Sonata was more than a little surprised. “Um, sure.” The girls took their seats around Sonata, while Thunderstruck sat directly across from her.

Rarity spoke up. “Sonata, this the new student here at Canterlot Hight.”

Thunderstruck extended his hand. “Hi, I’m Thunderstruck.”

Sonata smiled and shook his hand. “Sonata Dusk. Nice to meet you.”

Sunset looked around at the others, then gave the signal to enact her plan by winking. She, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Twilight all got up and left the table leaving leaving Sonata and Thunderstruck to themselves.

Sonata looked around, noticing that she was alone with Thunderstruck. “So, I guess it’s just the two of us.” She said while blushing.

“Yes it is.” Thunderstruck answered. He noticed that Sonata’s tray was full of tacos. “You must really love tacos.”

“Well, Duh! They’re only the best thing ever created!” Sonata then took a bite and and savored every second of it.

“Yeah, I like tacos too.” Thunderstruck took a bite of his and swallowed. “So, tell me about yourself.”

Sonata paused for moment. “Well, I live with my two friends. I guess you could say that we’re a band.”

“Really? What’s your band’s name?”

“The Dazzlings.”

Thunderstruck smiled. “That’s a cool name.”

Sonata then noticed the guitar by Thunderstruck’s side. “I see that you have a guitar, are you in a band?”

“No yet, but I do play. Music is one of my passions.”

“Can you play something right now?” Sonata asked.

“Sure.” Thunderstruck stood up, grabbed his guitar, and began to play.

Everyone in the cafeteria applauded. “Wow, you were great!” Sonata cheered.

Thunderstruck sat back down. “Thanks. You said that you were in band, can you sing something right now?”

Sonata sank into her seat. “I...haven’t sung in quite a while.”

“Why is that?”

“It’s...complicated.” Sonata was then approached by Adagio and Aria.

“Um, who are you?” Adagio asked with a snarky attitude.

Thunderstruck extended his hand. “Hi, my name’s Thunderstruck. You must be Sonata’s friends.”

“That’s one way of putting it.” Aria said as she looked at Thunderstruck with disgust. “Come on Sonata, we need to get going.”

“But I’m not finished with my lunch.” Sonata pleaded.

“Too bad.” Adagio grabbed Sonata by the arm and dragged her off.

“Wait, can I talk with you later?” Thunderstruck called out.

Sonata looked back as Adagio and Aria were walking off. She dashed back over, pulled out a pen, and wrote down her address on a napkin.

“Sonata, we’re waiting!” Aria called.

“Coming!” Sonata turned to face Thunderstruck and flashed him a smile. “Talk to ya later!”

After watching Sonata walk off, Thunderstruck picked up the napkin. He smiled as he held close to his chest.

Hidden Talents

Adagio, Aria, and Sonata all arrived back at their home after school. “So, how are supposed to get that key in Celestia’s Office?” Aria asked. “There’s no way she’s going to give it to us.”

“I’ve been thinking about that.” Said Adagio. “And I have a plan. To get into her office, we need a major distraction. And I know just the one.”

“What?” Sonata asked.

“A concert!” Adagio said triumphantly. “All of the students and staff will be distracted, leaving us free to get the key and unlock the book!”

Aria interjected. “There’s a couple of problems with that. One, throwing a concert is how we lost our powers in the first place. And two, we can no longer sing.”

Adagio waved her off. “I’m already way ahead of you. We are going to put on the concert to show the school that we have truly ‘changed.’ Once they think we’re reformed, they won’t think that we’re up to something.”

Sonata seemed unsure. “But what about the singing part?”

Adagio just smiled at her. “Simple, we’re going to re-learn how to sing, starting now.”

A few hours later, and all three sirens were huddled around a piano. Sonata sat and played as all three tried to sing. It wasn’t going as well as they had hoped. Aria slammed her fist down on the piano in frustration.

“This is hopeless! We’ve been practicing for hours, and we still sound terrible!”

“Becoming a singer doesn’t happen immediately.” Sonata said. “It takes time.”

“Time is something we don’t have.” Adagio added. “We need our powers back! I refuse to continue on as normal teenage girl!”

“At least two of us are trying.” Aria then glared over at Sonata.

Sonata looked at Adagio and Aria innocently. “What?”

“You know what I’m talking about.” Aria continued. “You’re the only one of us who sounds the worst. It's like you’re not even trying!”

Sonata just frowned and turned away from Adagio and Aria.

“Come on Aria, I need some fresh air.” Adagio then glared at Sonata. “You stay here and keep practicing, if you can even do that.” Adagio and Aria then left the house. Sonata folded her arms on the piano and rested her head on them. She felt like she was going to cry.

A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Sonata got up and answered it. Standing in the doorway with a smile on his face was Thunderstruck.

“Hi Sonata. May I please come in?” Thunderstruck asked.

“Of course!” Sonata welcomed Thunderstruck inside. She was glad to see a friendly face, even if was one she had just met.

Thunderstruck looked around the house. “Nice place you have here. Where are your sisters?”

Sonata looked down at her boots and rubbed her arm. “Adagio and Aria are not my sisters. They’re friends whom I’ve know for a very long time.”

Thunderstruck then noticed the piano in the room. “Nice piano, do you play?”

Sonata looked up and smiled. “Yeah, I’ve been playing for quite a while actually.”

“Can you also sing?”

Sonata blushed. “Well, a little.”

“Can you sing something for me, please?”

“Sure.” Sonata sat down at the piano. She placed her fingers on the keys and performed a song.

Thunderstruck’s breath was taken away. Never before had he heard such a lovely singing voice. “Sonata, that was beautiful!”

Sonata giggled and tried to hide her smile behind her hand. “Thanks.”

“Can your friends perform as well you can?”

“Well, no. In fact, they don’t know that I can sing so well.”

“Why not?”

Sonata let out a sigh. “Its...its a long story.”

Thunderstruck sat down on a nearby couch. “Oh. Well, it’s ok if you don’t want to talk about it. We can just talk about something else.”

Sonata got up and joined Thunderstruck on the couch. “Like what?”

“Well, tell me about yourself. Where are you from? What are your interest? How long have you known your friends?”

Sonata bit her lower lip. She was afraid to tell Thunderstruck about her past, and that she was siren. “Um, why don’t you go first?”

“Alright. I’ve been moving around with my family since I was kid. Because of of my mom’s job, we never stayed in one place for more than a year. My dad is the one who got me into music. Riding in the car with him and listening to classic rock stations. He also talks about music from his teenage years. I took up the guitar ten years ago, and haven’t stopped playing ever since.”

“Wow, sounds like you’ve lived an interesting life.”

Thunderstruck lowered his head and sighed. “Not really. I’ve always had trouble making friends. I always feel like an outsider, just watching the world passing me buy. All that I really want is to be with people who make me happy.”

Thunderstruck’s words hit Sonata right at her core. She too felt like an outsider. And even though she had been with Adagio and Aria for so long, Sonata wasn’t truly happy. She often longed to be with someone who could see past her siren self for the girl that was there.

Thunderstruck and Sonata then looked down to see that they were holding hands. They both pulled away and blushed. “This is awkward.” Said Thunderstruck.

“Yeah.” Sonata replied with a smile.

Adagio and Aria both arrived back home a moment later. “What are you doing here?” Adagio said to Thunderstruck with an irritated tone.

“Sonata invited me over. My name’s Thunderstruck.” Thunderstruck extended his hand, but both Adagio and Aria just looked at him with disgust.

Aria pointed towards the door. “Out.Now.”

Not wanting to cause a scene, Thunderstruck stood up and headed for the door. Before he left, Thunderstruck took one last look at Sonata. “See you at school tomorrow.”

After Thunderstruck left, both Adagio and Aria stared down Sonata. “Is something wrong?” Sonata asked meekly.

“What are you doing inviting some guy over to our house?!” Adagio asked furiously. “He could have found out about our plans!”

Sonata frowned and lowered her head. “I...I just think he’s nice. Thunderstruck is also a really good musician, and we have a lot of other things in common.”

Aria raised an eyebrow. “Wait, did you say that he’s a musician?”

“Yeah.”

A smile came over Aria’s face. “Adagio, might I have a word with you?” Aria and and Adagio both turned their backs to Sonata as Aria whispered to Adagio.

“I think we can use this Thunderstruck to our advantage.”

“How so?” Asked Adagio.

“Principal Celestia won’t let us put on a concert, she clearly doesn’t trust us enough. But if someone like Thunderstruck were to suggest a concert, then principal Celestia would allow it.”

A sinister smile crept over Adagio’s face. “Aria, I like the way you think.” The two then turned back to face Sonata. “Sonata, do you think Thunderstruck would help you out, as a friend?”

Sonata felt uneasy. “I think so. Why do you ask?”

“Because our plan just got a whole lot easier.” Said Aria.

Guitar Duel

View Online

Thunderstruck approached the front of Canterlot High School, his trusty guitar in tow. He suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around to see Sonata.

“Hey Thunderstruck! I’m sorry about last night. I apologize for Adagio and Aria for being so rude.”

Thunderstruck simply smiled and waved it off. “Hey, don’t worry about it. I’ve been treated worse. Believe me.”

Sonata blushed as she looked down at her feet. “So, would you still like to hang out? Maybe at lunch?”

“Sure, I’d like that.” Thunderstruck replied, his face blushing as well.

“Oh, I almost forgot.” Sonata said. “My friends and I have a really great idea, and we need your help.”

“Sure, what is it?”

“My friends and I think it would be a great idea if the school put on a concert. All we need is your help to convince Principal Celestia to approve the idea.”

Thunderstruck thought it over for a moment. “I’d be glad to help! But why do think that Principal Celestia needs to be convinced?”

Sonata became anxious and bit her lower lip. “Well, you see the thing is we tried to hold a battle of the bands about a year ago. Let’s just say that it got a little too competitive.”

Thunderstruck raised an eyebrow. “Competitive how?”

Sonata thought quickly to come up with an answer that wouldn’t reveal what really happened.

“Um, well the thing is...things got a bit heated between us and the Rainbooms. There was a bit of a fight and things turned nasty. But that’s all in the past! Adagio, Aria, and I have moved on I swear!”

Thunderstruck looked at Sonata’s pleading face. “I know that competitiveness can bring out the anger in people. But I believe that you mean it when you say you’ve moved on. I’ll talked with Principal Celestia about approving the concert.”

Sonata smiled and embraced Thunderstruck. “Thank you! You’re the best!” Thunderstruck was a little taken aback by the hug, but he didn’t mind. He just wanted it to last a little longer.

The bell rang and Sonata released Thunderstruck. “I’ll catch up with you at lunch, okay?” Thunderstruck turned and headed inside.

Sonata smiled and waved, but she soon frowned and let out a sigh. She hated lying to Thunderstruck. He was such a sweet guy with a kind heart. Sonata felt terrible for involving him in this scheme.

Adagio and Aria came up behind Sonata. “Did he fall for it?” Adagio asked.

Sonata was so spooked that that she nearly leapt ten feet into the air. She turned and faced Adagio. “Yeah, Thunderstruck is going to speak with Principal Celestia.”

“Good. Now we just have to make sure those Rainbooms don’t mess things up again.” Said Aria.

Adagio noticed that Sonata looked uneasy. “What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you actually feel bad for that Thunderstruck guy.”

“It’s just...it really doesn’t seem fair to drag him into this.” Sonata replied.

Aria stepped in front of Sonata. “What’s more important Sonata? Regaining our powers, or some dumb human?”

“Our powers.” Sonata murmured.

Adagio put a hand on her shoulder. “Very good. Now we just have to make sure those Rainbooms don’t interfere.”

Thunderstruck knocked on the door to Principal Celestia’s office. “Come in.” Celestia said as she looked up from her paperwork. Thunderstruck opened the door and entered her office. “Ah, Thunderstruck. What brings you here?”

“Well Principal Celestia, I want to talk to you about the possibility of the school holding a concert.” Said Thunderstruck.

A look of concern came over Celestia’s face. “A concert? I don’t know…”

“I don’t mean to interrupt, but hear me out.” Thunderstruck continued. “I know that there were some problems the last time. Sonata told me all about it.”

Celestia’s eyes went wide with shock. “Really? She told you everything that happened?”

“Yes, but Sonata has assured me that she and her friends have moved on. Will you please consider it?” Thunderstruck pleaded.

Celestia thought for a moment. Did Sonata really tell Thunderstruck the truth? While it was true that the Dazzlings were responsible for turning the talent show into a singing competition, and nearly draining the school of all of it’s magic, their magical pendants had been destroyed. They had become regular teenage girls.

“I will think it over and give you my answer later today. Is that alright Thunderstruck?” Celestia asked.

“Thank you Principal Celestia, I await your decision.” Thunderstruck smiled and showed himself out of her office.

At lunch, Thunderstruck met up with Sonata in the cafeteria. “So, how did it go with Principal Celestia?” Sonata asked.

“She said that she would have an answer for me later today.” Thunderstruck responded. “I’m hoping she says yes. Maybe you could perform at the concert? You have a great singing voice.”

“Well, I don’t know.” Sonata turned away in embarrassment. A guy with Blue hair and wearing a black jacket then approached Thunderstruck.

“So, I hear that you’re good with a guitar.” The guy said with a smirk.

“Umm, who are you?” Thunderstruck asked.

“The name’s Flash Sentry, and I’m one of the best guitar players in Canterlot.”

Thunderstruck just looked at Flash quizzically. “Okay, good for you.”

Flash removed his guitar from it’s case. “I was hoping that we could have a friendly competition.”

“What did you have in mind?”

“I challenge you to a guitar duel.”

Thunderstruck smiled and grabbed his guitar. “Alright Flash, I’ll be your huckleberry.” Thunderstuck and Flash then began their guitar duel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89p8ya3ZdnQ

After the duel, the entire cafeteria broke out in cheering and applause. Flash Sentry conceded defeat. “Wow! You really are good!”

Thunderstruck shook Flash’s hand. “Hey, you’re great yourself.” As they were congratulating each other, Principal Celestia entered the cafeteria.

“Well, it seems the passion for music is truly strong here.” She said. “Students, I have an announcement to make. This Saturday there will be a rock concert right here at Canterlot High! Any bands or individuals that want to perform, please sign up at my office.”

Sonata hugged Thunderstruck. “You did it Thunderstruck! Thank you so much for getting the concert approved!”

Thunderstruck’s face turned bright red as he blushed. “I’m just glad I could help.”

Sunset and Twilight both watched from the crowd. As soon as Sonata left, they approached Thunderstruck. Sunset tapped Thunderstruck on the shoulder. “Hey, can we speak with you for a moment in private?”

Thunderstruck followed Sunset and Twilight into the music room. “So, what did you want to talk about?”

“We couldn’t help but overhear that you helped the Dazzlings to convince Principal Celestia to approve a concert.” Twilight said.

“Well, yeah. Is that a problem?” Thunderstruck asked.

Sunset scratched the back of her neck. “The last time there was a concert here involving the Dazzlings, there were some problems.”

Thunderstruck simply smiled and waved them off. “Don’t worry. Sonata explained that the there was some arguing and fighting, but everything is cool now.”

Sunset let out a sigh. “Thunderstruck, Sonata wasn’t being entirely honest with you. The truth is that Adagio, Aria, and Sonata are actually sirens from another dimension. They tried to use their powers to drain the school of its magic, but the Rainbooms and I defeated them.”

“It’s true.” Twilight said. “Sunset is from the same world as the sirens, and is actually a unicorn.”

Thunderstruck broke out laughing. “Okay, I get it! This a prank. A school tradition to initiate the new student. Well done! Alright, you can bring out the hidden camera now!”

Sunset and Twilight both knew that Thunderstruck would never believe them without any proof. They both grabbed the magic crystals around their necks and activated their magic. Sunset and Twilight hovered in the air as they grew pony ears and tails.

Thunderstruck stared at them silently for a moment. “Okayyyyyy…” He then fell backwards onto the floor and passed out.

Twilight face-palmed herself. “Oh boy.”

Confessions of the Heart

Thunderstruck awoke with a terrible headache. He rubbed his head as he slowly opened his eyes.

“Thunderstruck, are you alright?” Sunset asked.

“Yeah, but I had the strangest dream.” Thunderstruck replied. “You and Twilight both grew pony ears and tails, and then you grew wings and began to-” Thunderstruck stopped when he fully opened his eyes, seeing that Sunset and Twilight were still in their magical states.

Thunderstruck raised an eyebrow. “I’m not dreaming, am I?”

Twilight bit her lower lip. “Uhh, no.”

“So, then everything you just told me is real?”

Sunset nodded her head. “Yes.”

Thunderstruck raised himself to a seated position. “I...I need a moment to think.”

Twilight and Sunset returned to their normal forms. “I’ll go get the rest of the girls, then we can figure out what to do together.” Sunset said.

Once everyone had gathered in the music room, they began discussing the situation. “Okay, here’s what we know.” Twilight said. “The sirens have used Thunderstruck to convince principal Celestia to put on a rock concert.”

“But we destroyed their amulets.” Said Rainbow. “They’re just normal teenage girls now. They can’t sing, and have no way to use mind control.”

Applejack thought the situation over. “Maybe the concert is just a cover for somethin’ else?”

Meanwhile, Thunderstruck sat away from the group lost in his own thoughts. Fluttershy noticed this and went over to him. “Is everything alright?” She asked.

Thunderstruck let out a sigh. “I’m still trying to take all of this in. Yesterday I was just a high school guy with a crush. Now I found out that magic is real, the girl I have a crush on is from another dimension, she and her friends once tried to take over the school, and now they might be trying to do it again and I’m stuck right in center of it all.”

“That...that is a lot to take in.” Fluttershy said softly.

“But the thing is, I still like her.” Thunderstruck continued. “She just makes me feel so great. My whole world gets better everytime I’m around her.”

“Have you told her that?” Fluttershy asked.

“No. And I refuse to believe that Sonata is some evil being. I’m going to find her and tell her how I feel.” With that Thunderstruck got up and marched out of the music room.

“Where is he going?” Rainbow asked.

“Um, Thunderstruck said that he was going to confess his feelings to Sonata and prove that she is no longer evil.” Fluttershy replied in a slightly hushed tone.

Sunset face-palmed herself. “This can’t turn out well.”

School had just let out, and all of the students were gathered out front. Some were heading home, while others were just hanging out. Adagio, Aria, and Sonata all stood in front of the school’s statue.

“Alright girls, the plan is in motion.” Adagio said with a confident smirk. “While everyone is distracted by the concert, we sneak into Principal Celestia’s office, get the key, go the library, get the book, and regain our powers. This entire city will be ours.”

“Good, because I’m sick of living as a teenage girl.” Said Aria. She then looked over at Sonata and noticed that she looked depressed. “Why are you so sad? We’re going to be all powerful again.”

Sonata looked over at her fellow Sirens. “I was just thinking...about Thunderstruck.”

“What about him?” Adagio asked. “He did his job. We don’t need him anymore.”

“But he is so nice. Don’t you think it’s wrong to just use him like that.” Said Sonata.

Adagio and Aria both had looks of shock on their faces. Adagio stepped in front of Sonata. “Sonata, do you actually like-” Before Adagio could finish, Thunderstruck ran up to the three.

“Sonata, there is something I need to tell you.” Thunderstruck said.

“What is it?” Sonata asked.

“Sonata, I like you. I mean I really like you. I think this can explain it better.” Thunderstruck then got his guitar and began to perform.

Sonata didn’t know what to say. “Thunderstruck, do you mean it?”

Thunderstruck set down his guitar. “Yes Sonata. I-” Thunderstruck then found himself interrupted by Aria, who grabbed Sonata by the arm and dragged her away.

“We’re leaving. NOW!”

Sonata tried to resist. “But...wait!”

Adagio got in the face of Thunderstruck, poking him in the chest. “Listen here new guy. Stay away from Sonata. I will make bad things happen if you go near her, got it?” Adagio and Aria then walked off with Sonata. She turned her head to look at Thunderstruck, a tear rolling down her cheek.

Thunderstruck fell down to his knees. He felt defeated and alone. Suddenly, Thunderstruck felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see Twilight and the rest of the Rainbooms.

“You really do love her, don’t you?” Twilight asked.

“Yes, I do.” Thunderstruck replied. “I know that you say Sonata is monster from another dimension, but I don’t see that. All I see is the most beautiful girl in the world.”

Pinkie Pie then stepped forward. “Then I say that we need to get you two lovebirds together!”

“But how?” Thunderstruck asked. “Adagio and Aria won’t let me near Sonata.”

“Thunderstruck, we all know what it’s like to be in love.” Sunset said as she sat next to him. “Perhaps with your help, Sonata can even be redeemed.”

“I agree.” Said Twilight. “Come on girls, we’ve got work to do!”

That evening Thunderstruck, along with Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Twilight waited in the Siren’s backyard while Sunset, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity approached their front door and rang the bell.

Adagio and Aria both answered. “What do you all want?” Adagio asked, clearly annoyed to see them.

“Oh, we were just in the neighborhood. Carrying an extra pair of these.” Rarity then showed Adagio and Aria a pair of tickets to that nights Feather Bangs concert.

Aria’s eyes went wide and she dashed forward to get a closer look at the tickets. “How did you get those? That concert has been sold out for weeks!”

“Our friend Vinyl Scratch knows a guy.” Sunset said.

“We’re heading out for the concert, and were wondering if you two could join us?” Fluttershy asked.

“What’s the catch?” Adagio asked with a skeptical look.

“There’s no catch. We just want to make amends and welcome you back to the school!” Said Pinkie.

Aria pleaded with Adagio. “Can we go? Please, please, please?”

“Fine. I guess it wouldn’t hurt.” Adagio grabbed the tickets.

“By the way, where’s Sonata?” Sunset asked.

“Lets just say she's grounded.” Said Aria. The six girls then headed out. Applejack watched from a distance to make sure that they were gone.

“Okay, the coast is clear.”

Thunderstruck stepped out of hiding along with Twilight and Rainbow. “Are you sure this will work?” Thunderstruck asked.

“Trust me.” Rainbow said with a smug smile. “Just walk up to her bedroom window and confess your love. It’s guaranteed to work. I read it in a book by Shakespeare.”

Applejack looked at Rainbow with a raised eyebrow. “Rainbow, did you even finish Romeo and Juliet?”

“Not quite. They live happily ever after, don’t they?”

Applejack facepalmed herself and let out a sigh of frustration.

“Don’t worry, just be yourself.” Twilight said reassuringly. “All you have to do is speak from the heart.”

Thunderstruck took a deep breath. He walked up to Sonata’s bedroom window and threw a pebble. Sonata opened the window and stuck out her head.

“Thunderstruck, what are you doing here? If Adagio and Aria see you-”

“They won’t. My friends have made sure that they’ll be gone for a while. Sonata Dusk, I love you. And I want to express it the best way I know how.” Thunderstruck was then handed his guitar by Twilight, and he began to sing.

Sonata looked at Thunderstruck with a smile. Tears of joy were building up in her eyes. Sonata went back into her room and returned with a rope ladder. “Come on up!” she said as the ladder was let down.

Thunderstruck climbed up the ladder into Sonata’s room. He then held her hands and looked into her eyes. “Sonata, I know that you’re a siren from another dimension and that you and your friends tried to take over the school.”

“And...you still love me?” Sonata asked with some confusion.

“I love you for who you are. I don’t care what anybody else sees. And I don’t care about what you did. All I care about is you.”

“Thunderstruck, I don’t know what else to say. I love you too! In fact.”

Thunderstruck and Sonata then kissed each other passionately.
