Hey there… is this thing on?!" I called out to the webcam as I saw the face of an equestrian citizen on a chat site. "Please, you have to listen to me.... I know what I am and what we did in Canterlot, but I ain't like her… please, you have to help me," I pleaded to the stallion on the other end of the webcam, who looked gobsmacked to see — well — a nude changeling princess such as myself before him, pussy and bust showing to the world.

Oh, I'm sorry, how rude of me… I'm Shadow, by the way, the protagonist and lead role of the Changeling Alliance's latest story. I know, a fourth wall break — shoot me — I ain't Pinkie Pie, so don't count on that happening much, Jamie. Yeesh, the guy’s paranoid, but hey, on with the story. Before I reveal too much, I must take you back to the time it was seemingly beautiful and peaceful, back to my childhood.

Seven years before the attacking on Canterlot…

It was a good day in the hive and I was wandering through the hive to look at the Library of Queens, where every document in our hive’s millennia history was kept for the eyes of the queen only. Me, being a rash teenager, thought that due to being next in line to my mother's throne after my sister had been exiled for supplying love to her 'boyfriend', who was a drone from a hive we were at war with over the Everfree Forest hive, which was the one my family won in the year Nightmare Moon was exiled after the battle between Celestia and her evil sister killed the occupying Queen and my ancestors moved in. Basically I wanted to read all that history in the library!

Anyhow, enough history… as I was saying, I thought I could get inside the library, when I heard a familiar voice behind me… Mother.

"Shadow Nocturnus Aura, where are you going?" the voice belonging to my mum said from behind me. "Now don't lie; I’ll know if you do!"

"Hi mum, I was just heading to the library," I said honestly. Luckily there were two in the hive that spread like a network of caves across the most part of the Everfree Forest underground. Hopefully Chrysalis thought I mean the non-restricted one.

"Oh really now," Chrysalis replied walking around me with a grin on her face as if she was teasing me like a predator did prey. "I know you are heading to the Library of Queens and I am not letting you!" she said with a smirk, as she picked me up in her magic, making me feel weak compared to her grasp as I tried to get free.

"Ah come on, mum, put me down! I just want to read the history of our hive — not just the stuff in the books. I want to know everything from before Everfree and back to the first hive!" I groaned as I wriggled and jiggled to get out of the floating magical grip I was currently suspended in.

"Well, Shadow, I may let you go, but remember what happened to Amethyst when she went snooping in there," Chrysalis said with a sigh as she looked at an ironically placed painting of Amethyst, her and me. That had been painted years ago — before Amethyst left after a row with mother to go rule a country somewhere over the badlands border, taking a disguise of a white alicorn with a beautiful multi-colored mane that flowed in an unseen wind and flew away towards the mountains of what we know of as Equestria. I miss her so much but mother said she went because she hated the both of us. If only that were true.

5 years before the attack on Canterlot…

War, bloody war… we suffered an attack from my mother's old rivals, Queen Drago of the badland hive who was quite a formidable foe — her hive was small, but all willing to die for the insane Queen. The battle in the tunnel maze was insane. All of the mares and nymphs I elected to help evacuate as the group of radical subjects of the insane Queen Drago attacked the atrium and residential districts, which are all civilian areas, while others attacked the love supplies and armory which was already low as it is.

OK, where was I? Oh yeah, I was escorting the civilians out as all the male drones fought away her forces, but the problem was when we got topside, she was there. Drago was a regal looking changeling but had certain things about her that were both horrifying and sad at the same time. Her face was scarred across her eye, as her long blood red hair blew in the battle smoke. She was grinning as she watched both her drones and my drones die.

"You bitch! This is your fault!" I shouted, prepared to charge at her, but was held back by my personal guards, Bella and Lobis, who were a family set — I think they're twins even though they keep protesting otherwise — they were both born from my old pal, Crystal Darklight, but she died a few years back, which was sad. I took the two under my wings as my guards, and they are my best friends. My only friends.

"Princess Shadow, calm down! It's not a good idea to piss off the Maniac who has us surrounded!" Lobis said simply as he let me go. I took a deep breath and glared daggers at Drago, who laughed maniacally at me.

"Oh, it's Chrysalis's little bwaby? Awwwww… so cute… so gentle," Drago said with a smirk before turning sour and giving me a glare. "So pathetic! Drones kill the twerp!"

"Not on our watch! It'll be okay, princess, me and Loby will sort out the riff raff!" Bella said with her trademark over-enthusiasm and happiness, as a vine shield covered the convoy of civilians. "Okay then, they'll be safe for now… let's get to work!" she then said as she became a manticore, attacking the drones surrounding us.

"Princess, go now," Lobis said, joining his sister in battle, using his sound illusions to make the other drones look at the darkness for timber wolves that weren't there. Both of them were good, but Drago had the advantage in troops to spare.

I couldn't stand by and watch this, so I jumped into the frenzy using some of the spells I read in my one-off visit to the Library of Queens, which narrowed down the forces and gave me a clear shot on Drago. I took it, wounding her wings.

I watched her fall and smirked, but her drones caught her as they began to retreat. Mother came with the rest of our drone army. "She's finally had a good idea by deciding to run!" Chrysalis said, landing beside me with a chuckle "Shadow, come with me — we have a problem," she then added before walking into the hive again.

This was just the beginning of her downfall. The love shortage was catastrophic and we suffered for a long period of time trying to fix the problem. Soon mother, in a desperate attempt, started to send away nymphs to take place of stillborn babies so they would get love and the families would have their miracle baby. This happened throughout Equestria, but the rest of us still starved. Another drastic measure was put in place, where we took in homeless ponies and drained their love, causing them to become mindless drones that served the queen only. I agreed with none of this, but it saved our hive —except for one fact: that we were still low on love. That is when I came up with a plan that would change changeling history forever. This was the plan that became the Canterlot invasion
