The ricketing of the train tracks did little to ease the mind of the Pegasus, not breaking his attention from the small paper document he held in his hooves. His back laid against the the green rest within the train cart. A few other passengers were in the cart with him, but thank Celestia they were leaving him alone. The last thing Soarin ever liked to do was deal with mobs of fans.

Soarin remained fixated on the document before him, going through every word with the same care and precision expected of a wonderbolt, or rather former wonderbolt. By his side laid a modestly-sized bag of clothes and personal items. His old uniform, a few pictures, his favorite books among others. On his back he wore his favorite brown jacket,, the symbol of the wonderbolts sewn onto the back.

Soarin read through the details one last time, the full weight of the message still sinking in. It had been just a few weeks now, and yet he still could barely believe it. Cancer... His father was diagnosed when he was younger, and it seemed now that despite his best attempts to avoid the same fate, Soarin had contracted the same condition. They had told him that the condition can be inherited sometimes and it seemed now that he was unlucky enough to be diagnosed. They had given him a year to live before his body would give out.

When he received the news, he could barely bring himself to even walk out the doors of the hospital. He managed to drag himself back to headquarters to tell the team the news. He had never been quite as good friends with the other wonderbolts as he wished he had, but they were kind enough to give him the support he needed. They gave him his honorable discharge and helped him pack up, after a few teary-eyed farewells.

Luck had reached him though when a certain member of the Wonderbolt Reserve had heard of the news. She reached out to him and offered any sort of support that he might need. He mentioned gratitude in his letter and about his decision to live the rest of his life in peace and simplicity. After an exchange of letters, she offered to help him get a new home in Ponyville. An offer that he gladly accepted.

The train suddenly came to a screeching, but gradual stop as he finally looked up. He tucked the document away as he picked up his pack and threw it onto his back. “Current Stop, Ponyville!” The nearby conductor’s voice rang out.

“Ponyville.” Soarin spoke softly to himself. He been to this town only once or twice, but he always thought it was a nice little town. After all, the legendary bearers of the Elements of Harmony, including the upcoming Rainbow Dash, made their home here. He figured this would be a perfect place to live the rest of his life in peace.

Soarin walked his way out of the train and into the station. The brown woodwork clattered with hooves as ponies exited and entered the train. He took a look around, looking around for his greeter, but to no avail. One would think she would be easy to spot, but not today it seemed. He began to wonder is she would even show up. What is she? Don't tell me she forgot.

“Hey Soarin! Over here!”

As if on cue, a familiar raspy voice rang to his right. looking over, he finally found the missing pony. A cyan blue pegasus with a rainbow mane was running her way toward him. Soarin made a quick look around to see if any mobs were forming at the mention of his name. Luckily no such thing occurred.

“Hey, Rainbow Dash! How you doing?” He called out to her.

“It’s going awesome, Soar-I mean, sir!” She threw up a salute and stoic look as she came to a sudden stop in front of him.

Soarin rolled his eyes. “Oh relax, no need for any of that. Not a bolt anymore.” He threw out a hoof for her to bump, which she gladly accepted.

“So you ready to see your new house?”

“Yep. Let’s go, the sooner we get there, the sooner I can get settled in.”

The pair of Pegasi walked in mostly silence they made their way through. Soarin was mostly silent, but eagerly took in the new sights and faces. Most of the occupants were earth ponies, but here was a healthy number of unicorns and pegasi as well.

This was to be his new home and already he was beginning to like it alot. Everypony was smiling at each other. A few ponies recognized him and enthusiastically waved and greeted, but they managed to give him his space.. A few fillies and colts even for his autograph, but he couldn’t pass up. Despite that, his walk continued at a good pace as they made their way.

“So...Are you nervous at all..?” Dash spoke to him with a hint of unease in her voice. Soarin looked over at her. He knew that she may not be showing it, but he knew that she was upset to hear about his condition. She had told him before about how much he has been one of her heroes.

Soarin thought for a moment and then shook his head, keeping his eyes forward. “Being a wonderbolt, I’ve had quite a fair share of close calls. I suppose in a strange way, it sort of...prepares you for death.”

“You actually sound indifferent to it.” Dash said, with a tone of surprise and even shock.

“”It’s not that I don’t care, cause I do. It’s just when the time comes… I’m ready. I suppose I have lived a good life up until now though. Looking back, I can say I have tried to live good and be good to others, so I suppose I’m ready for it, and whatever comes afterwards.”

“But what about your parents? Wouldn’t your family care? Do they even know?”

Soarin stopped in his tracks. His stoic expression partially broke as he looked down at the ground with an emotion of anger fading into sorrow and even guilt. After a few minutes, he looked up again. “ I…lost the respect of my parents a long time ago. Enough about me though, how’ve you been?”

“Me? Oh… Well, I’ve been good. A little busier than usual with getting your house ready, but good.”

“That’s good.” Soarin made paused though, nervous about about what he was about to speak about. “You’re not.. still upset about that incident with Wind Rider, are you?” His tone was laced with worry as he spoke.

Dash looked to him with a look of confusion. ”What do you mean?”

“You don’t remember? When you were accused, I went up and threaten to expel you from the wonderbolts. Instead of doing things right and calling for an investigation, I just instantly made the conclusion that you were to blame.” He flinched as he recited what he knew to be a big mistake on his part.

“Oh that?’ Dash made a dismissing movement with her hoof.” Water under the bridge. It was all that jerk Wind Rider’s fault.”

“Yeah, well I didn’t exactly help either.”

“Relax, Soarin. We all make mistakes, and it turned out alright in the end.” Dash lightly punched in in the side, snapping him out of his stupor and causing him to shoot a “What the hell” look at her. “Now we’re even.”

Soarin just looked at her and sighed. “I guess I deserved that.”

The rest of the walk continued in silence. Before they came across a small house. “Well here we are.” Dash gestured forward with her hoof.

Soarin walked up to the house, inspecting it carefully. It was a single floored cottage not unlike the rest of the buildings surrounding it. Rainbow Dash walked in front of him and unlocked the door. Sliding it open, she handed the key to Soarin.

“Don’t lose it.”

“Don’t worry. I was just afraid that you might have.” A smug grin crept its way onto his face.

Dash did a double take on that and glared and Soarin. Soarin raised his front hooves in defence. “Oh come on, I was just kidding.”

Dash led him inside with a roll of her eyes. “I only lost it for a few minutes.” She grumbled under her breath.

Soarin took a look inside his new home. The interior was painted yellow with a brown wooden floor. A few windows shined light into the house as well as a chandelier above him. Much of the the house was spacious apart from the few pieces of furniture spread across the house. A moderately sized couch, bookshelf and table in his living room. A dining table and fridge in the kitchen, and a dresser and bed in his bedroom. Overall Soarin liked it. Different from what he was use to, but a nice change of scenery from always seeing everything made from clouds.

He walked his way into the bedroom and fell straight back on top of it, testing out how comfortable it was. Not as...comfortable as he was use to,but it’ll do. Little known fact about Pegasi that they don’t share often, clouds make the absolute BEST beds in Equestria. Still, it was comfy enough.

He spent the next few minutes unpacking and putting various things away for later. He notice Rainbow walk into his room though and pull something out.

“Lightning Head and the Wizard’s Orb?” Dash spoke up in a questioning tone.

“It’s been my favorite book for years.” Soarin spoke looking back.

“Ehhhhhh….Not my thing. Ever read Darin Do?”

“Not my type.”

“What?!” Dash spoke in a higher voice. “How can you not like Daring Do? she’s so awesome and adventurous!”

Soarin shrugged his shoulders. “I’ve read few of the books. They just don’t interest me.”

Dash rolled her eyes and put the book back. “Whatever, are you ready to go or not? By now, Pinkie Pie is probably freaking out about you not being there.”

“Sure. Ready when you are, crazy fan-girl.”

The death glare he received did nothing to stop his giggling.

The pegasi pair walked their way passed through town in relative silence. The banter between the two had began to mull down as Rainbow Dash led Soarin to the next location. Soarin had no real actual idea of what to expect, but according to Dash, it was something “awesome”. If she said it would be good, then it must be, but then again, she said that about everything so he didn’t have much to go on. All he hoped for though was something simply fun and easy.

It took alittle longer than Soarin figured it would, Rainbow Dash had led him straight through the outskirts of town and towards what Soarin recognized as a farm.

“So...why does it have to be all the way out here? Why not in town?”

Rainbow Dash shrugged as she led him to the barn door. “ Pinkie Pie thought she needed more room for the party.”

“More room?” Soarin groaned to himself. “Please don’t tell me it’s a huge number of ponies. You know I hate crowds.”

“Oh come on, it’s not that many ponies. I’ve had much bigger crowds before.” She spoke with a hint of smug pride.

“Yeah, well you soak up attention like a freaking flower.”

Rainbow rolled her eyes. “ Yeah yeah yeah, now quit stalling and get in their, you sissy.”

Soarin sighed to himself and pushed his way through the door.

“SURPRISE!!!” All shout from countless voices rang out all at once.

“GAh!” Soarin jumped in his hooves, not expecting that much of a welcome. With the light shining through the barn windows, Soarin saw that just how many ponies there were. 50...60...70… way too many for him to be comfortable.

He weakly lifted his hoof and waved with a sheepish grin. “Uhh, hey everypony.”
Without warning, a pink pony with a very bushy mane appeared right in front of him. Before he could even say a word, he was bombarded without comments and questions.

“Oh my Gosh! Oh My Gosh! Oh my Gosh! I can’t believe I can finally throw a party for a Wonderbolt! Wait, doesn’t mean I also get to throw you a “retiring from the wonderbolts” party too? Cause if I do then that means i also get-” Pinkie’s trail of speech was interrupted as Soarin raised his hoof to stop her.

“Just one party is enough miss…” Soarin let that sentence hang, intending to get the ponies name as he extended his hoof in greeting.

“Oh! I’m sorry, Pinkie Pie’s the name! And your Soarin of the wonderbolts! Well, former wonderbolts, but Rainbow Dash talks about you all the time!”

“Does she now?” Soarin faked a smile on his face as he shook pinkie's hoof. Internally, he prayed that she hadn’t let it slip yet about the reality of his situation. He stole a glance Dash’s way, looking for confirmation. Thankfully, she got the hint and responded with a wink, setting his mind at ease.

“Well don’t just stand around, come meet everypony!” Pinkie gave him no chance to object as she sent him straight into the mob of ponies, all eager happy faces to greet him. “Now let's get this party started!”

After what seemed like an eternity of meet pony, shake hooves, repeat, Soarin finally found himself free to wander and minger with various members of the crowd. Despite his early jitters about being the possible center of attention, it ended up not being nearly as bad as he had thought. A few questions for him came up here and there, but overall they gave his space. He was in the middle of speaking with the new princess Twilight about a potential flying regime when he began to feel himself get hungry.

Excusing himself for a moment, Soarin found himself ducking and weaving around various ponies talking and partying to their hearts content. He spotted himself a small table, filled with an entree of various dishes. Cupcakes, Chocolate, Muffins, Apples, and…

Pie! A few pies made up the center, by the smell, Soarin figured them to be apple. Making his way over, Soarin wasted no time in picking one of the pies up and practically shoved his entire muzzle straight in. A few ponies looked his way, but he didn’t care. The pie was...just so good! Not to mention strangely familiar.

“Boy howdy partner, you sure know a good old fashioned pie when you see one eh?” The southern accented of a mare rang out. Soarin, finish the last bits of the pie, looked up to see an orange coated mare with a yellow mane and a brown stetson in front of him. He also found himself taking in account her three apple cutie mark, green eyes and welcoming smile and tone of voice.

It was a few awkward moments before Soarin realized he had been staring at her. He shook himself out of it before nodding to the mare. “I take it you're the cook?”

“Me? Nah, that’d be my Granny smith’s cooking. No pony could have done it better. Anyway the name’s Applejack, Mr. Soarin.” She extended her hoof to the Pegasus.

Soarin shot his hoof out to meet hers, shaking enthusiastically. “Good to meet you Applejack.” Strangely enough, that name began to ring a bell as she became more familiar to him. “Have we, by any chance, met before?”

“Actually, we did. A few years ago at the Gala. Ya’ll came up to my booth and bought yerself one of my pies.”

Soarin pondered for a moment. He had been to a few galas before. Now that he thought about it momentarily, it began to come back to him. He remembered this mare and how he bought himself a pie from her. That actually ended being the most fun he ever had when going to the Gala.”Yeah, I do remember that time now. For once the Gala was actually fun to be at!”

“THat’s what ah heard.” Applejack let out a soft chuckle before a deadpanned looked crept its way out. “Though ‘cept you, Ah didn’t make nothin off that little glorified get together. Too “Country” they all said.”

“Are you kidding me? Your stuff is awesome!” Soarin briefly heard his stomach let out a small grumble. “Speaking of which, can I have another?”

“Of course! Help yourself, it’s all for you afterall.”

The next few hours were a buzz for Soarin as he mingled with the ponies. Already he was beginning to feel less of a celebrity and more like a new member of the community. Ponies came up, introduced themselves and engaged in small talk, just as they would any pony.
Much of that time he also spent with Applejack. As they talk on, Soarin found himself enjoying his time with her much more he thought he would. Used to high egos and praise directed at him with the sole reason of, in his opinion, getting on his good side, he found Applejack to be down to earth, honest and genuine with her actions and speech.

As the sun began to set, the party died down to a shimmer. Ponies began to pick themselves up and make their way home. Many said last minutes welcomes again to Soarin as well as thanks to Pinkie for the party in general. As the last one out, Soarin in particular wished to speak to her. He found her up on a ladder taking down some of the decorations.

“Hey Pinkie?”

Pinkie turned from her work of taking down some of the decorations to face Soarin. “Hey, what’s up?” She climbed herself down to face the pegasus with a smile.

“I just wanted to thank you for your help. I was afraid that my status, well former status as a wonderbolt would have gotten me some kind of special treatment or something. That wasn’t the case it seemed.”

“No problem! Everypony deserves to have a classic ponyville welcome. Though you still have told us why you left the wonderbolts. Were they being a bunch of meanies to you again?” She tilted her head, curious now about his reasons.

“Oh no, it’s nothing like that! It’s just…” Soarin trailed off. Besides Rainbow Dash, he had told nopony in town about his reasons for leaving or anything about his condition. That little voice in the back of his head kept screaming at him. You have to let them know. You know it would be cruel otherwise. Soarin did his best to push such thoughts aside, but not without effort. Not yet, I can't. For once he might be able to finally be under the paparazzi's radar, but that could all end quickly he lets the truth out so early. Not when he can finally begin to let go of his celebrity status.

“Pinkie tilted her head to the other side in growing confusion.

“It’s personal, let's just leave it there for now.” Looking through the window, Soarin no longer saw the fading orange of the sunset, it was getting dark. “Anyway, I gotta get home now. Thank you again Pinkie, I really enjoyed the party. Heh,” He began to turn and walk towards the door.” Maybe I’ll also have you do my funeral as well.” HE added with a slight chuckle.

“Sure, of course I...would?” Pinkie halted her speech as she heard that in her head. By now Soarin had fully walked out and flew his way home. “His Funeral? What did he mean by that?”

“Oh that?” Rainbow Dash walked up to her. She was one of the last one in the barn, helping Pinkie take down decorations. “Don’t worry about that, I’ll let you know later.” She looked back to the closing door as Soarin made his way home. Her face began to show signs of concern. "I just hope soon."

Soarin opened the door wide open as he stepped out to greet the morning sun. Already a whole week had passed since he moved to Ponyville and already he had begun to feel more at home. Whilst he did miss at times his old home up in Cloudsdale, the change of scenery and faces were all welcomed by the Pegasus.

Closing the door behind him, Soarin pondered over his business for the day. So let’s see, Twilight wanted to see me over at the Castle, so I should make that my first stop.

Soarin, seeing the castle over in the distance, began to his trek through the town towards his destination. Rather than flying, he opted rather to keep his hooves on the ground. Undoubtedly it would be faster to simply fly, but he deemed it better to simply walk and enjoy the time he had.

Despite his short time in the town, he was already beginning to prefer it to the bustle of a big city. The ponies here of all kinds, whilst understanding his celebrity status and at times asked for an autograph or for advice, it was nowhere near the kind of treatment he received in his days with the Wonderbolts. Instead of swarms of reporters, he was greeted by waves and warm smiles. Ponies wishing him a good morning rather than offering sponsorships and endless interviews. He wished he had done this sooner, and that he would have more time to enjoy it.

Much to his dismay, Soarin had begun to feel himself slightly more tired than usual. While still keeping himself fit, Soarin found himself beginning to tire out more quickly. He didn’t need to have a doctor tell what that meant. He had already heard from a one of the best in Cloudsdale as well as Doctor Stable here in Ponyville, whom Soarin was very thankful of for helping keeping his condition under wraps.

“Excuse me, Mr. Soarin?”

Soarin’s musing were interrupted as a female voice called out to him. He stopped in his tracks as he saw to his left a pegasus mare. Her coat was a bright yellow with a dark brown short mane. Hanging from her side was a small bag.

See that he stopped, the mare smiled and walked towards him, extending a hoof. “Glorious Tale of the Equestrian Enquirer. I was hoping to have a moment of your time.”

For a moment, Soarin hesitated, but he managed to make himself smile whilst shaking her hoof. “Of course. What can I do for you?”

‘Excellent. Well, how about we just go take a seat somewhere? I just want to ask you a quick a couple of questions.” She gestured to a nearby bench, but waited for his answer.

Soarin nodded and led the mare to the bench, taking a seat beside her. He was, for a brief moment, debating on whether or not he should just tell her no and leave, but dismissed the idea. He had a good idea what this was about, but figured indulging her wouldn’t be too painful.
“So what did you want to know?” Soarin asked.

“Well,” Glorious pulled out a pen and small notebook from her bag. “ First I want to figure out how life has been treating you since you have left the Wonderbolts.”

“It’s been good so far. The ponies here are friendly and great. It’s a welcome change in pace.”

“But don’t you miss your friends in Cloudsdale or your colleagues in the Wonderbolts?” Glorious questioned as she began to jot down notes. “Did you leave because of differences with your teammates.

“What? No, of course not.” Soarin shook his head. “I just wanted to do something less intensive with my life.”

“I see. So you would say that you are on good terms with Spitfire and the other Wonderbolts?”

Soarin nodded his head, causing Glorious to write down another note. He barely heard her mumble to herself, but couldn’t make what Glorious was saying.

“Have you spoken at all with Spitfire or the others?” Soarin asked.

Glorious shot her head up.” Hmm? Oh, yes actually I did , or at least tried. I wasn’t able to get a whole lot from them, just that you apparently wanted to do something else for a change. Anything I got was very vague and I didn’t really get to sit down a whole lot with any of them.”

“I see.” internally, Soarin was relieved that nopony had yet figured the reasons for his discharge from the Wonderbolts. He knew rumors would surface, but hoped that Spitfire wouldn’t be revealing personal information of his or anything against him. I should remember to thank Spitfire for that. Recalling his schedule with the Princess, Soarin hopped off the bench.“Listen, I’m afraid there is somewhere I need to be.”

“Oh! Ok then.” Glorious stuff her supplies away into her bag and hopped off the bench. “I didn't mean to keep you. I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine.” Soarin spoke, extending his hoof in kindness, which she accepted. “I trust you got what you needed?”

“Of course, This is just what I needed. Thank you very much!”

“Your welcome, and have a good day.” With that, Soarin parted ways as the mare walked off on her own way.

“Well, that wasn’t so bad.” Soarin spoke to no one but himself. With no more interruptions in his way, Soarin began his short journey again.

The rest of the walk went uninterrupted as the new castle came into view. Whilst not as as large as say the Royal Palace of Canterlot or its counterpart in the Crystal Empire, the Castle of Friendship was still impressive in its own right. It resembled a massive crystallized tree at the base, with its leaves and canopy replaced with the typical series of towers befitting a castle. Hanging over the entire structure was a massive crystal star, resembling the Princess Twilight's Cutie Mark.

Soarin finished gazing at the scenery above him to push his way through the front doors. Though Soarin had already spent time in both the Royal Canterlot Castle as well as the Crystal Empire, the castle of Friendship wasn’t all that bad itself. The interior seemed to him as a mix of the two previous castles. The architecture of the royal Palace with the use of crystal furniture of the Crystal Empire as well as its own, unique flair.

The only missing though, was ponies. Despite the well kept appearance of the castle, Soarin barely heard a sound. It almost seemed like the castle was deserted.

“Hello?” Soarin spoke out, alittle louder than usual. At first there was no reply, but his own echoing voice through the halls. Soarin almost spoke out again before the sound of opening doors cut him off.

In front of him, a pair of large green doors opened the way to reveal the princess herself.

“Hey there!” Twilight greeted the newcomer, walking past the doors up to Soarin. “Glad you came. Anyway how do you like the Castle?”

“It’s not bad, You yourself a good home here.”

“Well, it’s not just mine. Anyway come on in, there’s so much we can talk about.”

Twilight led Soarin through the doors she came from into a new room. Massive shelves filled to the brim with books encircles the walls of the room. In the center was a single large circular table with several chairs surrounding it. A few other furniture items were spread around in the room, none of which were, much to Soarin thankfulness, made crystal.

In one of the lounging chairs, Soarin as able to see another pony. He couldn't tell who it was, but was able to see a dull pink coat with a horn and dark violet mane with a blue streak poking out over the top of the book the pony was reading.

“Starlight? We have a visitor, come say hello.” Twilight called out to the pony.

Starlight lowered the book she was reading to look over to the pair of ponies. Soarin now saw this pony in her full breadth. A unicorn mare with a magic esque cutie mark and eyes the same color of her coat. Her mane was similar to twilight's, but had a blue, not red streak going down it and as well having a different style, She set aside her book and pulled herself off the chair to greet the pair.

“Starlight, I’d like you to meet Soarin, our newest member of Ponyville.” Twilight made the appropriate gesture to Soarin.

“Right, hello there.” Starlight spoke up, rather meekly.” Sorry I missed your party by the way, I was rather busy at the moment.”

“Oh it’s fine. So what do you?”

“ I’m just Twilight’s personal protege. I hear that you’re actually some sort of celebrity, right?”

“Well I was. I was a Wonderbolt not too long ago, but decided to leave.”

“A Wonderbolt?” Starlight’s eyebrow raised itself. “I’ve never heard of that.”

Soarin’s eye widened slightly. A pony who had never heard of the Wonderbolts? Now that was unexpected. Not entirely unwelcome, but still unexpected.

“Starlight doesn't mean anything by it.” Twilight interjected. “She just… never liked to bother herself with anything outside her studies or life, but believe me she is a powerful mage and a very good pony.” Twilight looked over to Starlight, a certain beam of pride in her eye. One that Starlight seemed to appreciate.

“Well in that case,” Soarin extended his hoof.” It is a pleasure to meet you, Starlight…”

“Glimmer,” Starlight met his hoof with her own. “ Starlight Glimmer. Anyway, I’ll leave you two alone. Would any of you like some tea?”

“I’d appreciate that Starlight, thank you.” Twilight spoke to the the unicorn as she walked away. “Now then,” Twilight turned back to Soarin.” How about we get started?”

The rest of the afternoon was filled with various discussion between Soarin and Twilight. They spoke on various things, from Twilight’s coronation and duties as a princess to Soarin’s of flying regime. Soarin so far had been very thankful of Twilight informal way of making conversation. No proper way to seat or address the other pony, just simple easy going conversation. Soon enough, the conversation began to shift its way towards his duties as a wonderbolt.

“Speaking of which, how well do you think Rainbow Dash will do in the Wonderbolts?” Twilight asked, sipping on her tea.

For a moment, Soarin was silent, pondering on his answer to that question. Finally he answered her. “Well she definitely has the flying capability to hold her own and then some, so there is no worries there. As long as she is willing to work with others, she can do it. As a Wonderbolt, you are many things. A good flier is just one thing. You are also a teamplayer, a celebrity and somepony that others would look up to. You have to be meticulous about not just your flying, but also about you how deal with others, especially your teammates and children. You and me both know about how Dash loves attention, right?”

Twilight nodded, aware of their mutual friend’s love of the spotlight.

“That itself isn’t bad. Could even be good at some points, but she has to be willing to do as she is told and keep to any routine she is given. There are times to show off and there are times when you should just do as you’re told. No more, no less. As long as Dash can keep that in mind, she won’t just succeed, she’ll thrive as a Wonderbolt.”

“Have you told Dash any of this yet?”

Soarin shook his head.” Not yet, but I plan to soon. With my spot now empty they’ll be looking for a replacement. Heck they probably already are looking at candidates. I also tried to put in a good word for her before i left to see if she could become my replacement.”

“Really? That be great!” Twilight smiled at the possibility of Dash finally landing a place in the Wonderbolts. “I still don’t get you though, Soarin.”

Soarin looked up from his tea, an eyebrow raised.”What do you mean?”

“I just don’t get why a Wonderbolt, in the prime of his life and career, would just suddenly out of the blue simply retire and move to Ponyville. “ Twilight spoke, as if she was expecting a response.

Soarin felt his pulse begin to quicken slightly at the situation. “ It’s just as i ‘ve said, Twilight. I wanted to have a different lifestyle.”

Twilight looked unconvinced. “ Just like that? And so vague too? I don’t know Soarin. I don’t mean to be nosy, but it just doesn't make sense. Something must have made you leave.” Twilight seemed to ponder for a moment to herself before her eyes widen slightly. “Oh my goodness, were you being mistreated by the Wonderbolts again?”

“What? No, of course not!” Soarin spoke out, his voice raised slightly in defense.”What makes you think that?”

“I haven’t forgotten about the Equestria games tryouts Soarin. I remember how they left you behind and tried to pull Dash out of her team.”

Soarin almost responded without thought before he stopped himself. She did have a point. That incident did land Spitfire and Fleetfoot in a lot of trouble, but it was water under the bridge as far as he concerned. The Wonderbolts were never as perfect as they thought they were, but they usually learned from their mistakes.

Soarin knew of the response that would possibly put this all to rest, but he didn’t know if he could. He had no ill will against Twilight, but could he really trust her to keep his condition secret should
he tell her. He felt absolutely horrible for it, but he didn’t feel that he yet could.

With a sigh, Soarin spoke. “Yes, Twilight. There is a reason as why i’m here, but it has nothing to do with the Wonderbolts. It’s just...personal, and I want to keep it like that. At least for now. Can we just leave at that, Twilight?” Soarin looked back at her, with an almost pleading tone.

Twilight looked conflicted,as if she wanted to get more out of him. Soarin almost felt like he was trapped. That she didn’t believe and would start pushing for more, to his relief when her expression calmed down. “Alright, I won’t bug you at all about it unless you want somepony to talk to. Just know if you ever want to, my doors will always be open.”

Soarin gave an audible sigh of relief as he heard that. “Thank you, Twilight. That means a lot to me.”

“Your welcome, Soarin.” Twilight at that point realized just how long they have been talking to one another. “Well, I suppose that’s I the time we have for today. I have things to do, just like you I suppose.”

“Oh not a whole lot. I’ve just been enjoying my free time. I have been thinking about doing something here and there eventually. Try and help out when I can i mean.”

“Hmm,” Twilight looked up in thought, her hoof scratching her chin as she thought, before coming to an answer and looking back at Soarin. “ I do know that Applejack could always use some help around at her farm. I’m sure she would welcome any help if you’re interested.”

“Hmm, Yeah maybe I’ll head over there sooner or later. Anyway I’ll see you around Twilight.” Soarin got up from his seat.

“Of course. It was good talking with you Soarin.” Twilight got up and followed the Pegasus as he made his way to the entrance. “And of course, don’t ever be afraid to come in and talk if you ever need somepony.”

“I’ll be sure to remember that.” Soarin opened the door and stepped out, but not before giving one final wave to the princess. “Have a good day Twilight.”

“You too, Soarin.”
