“What happened?”

Truth be told, he wasn’t sure why he had responded to Twilight’s letter so quickly. Just a year ago, he would have laughed at the prospect of helping somepony. But that was a year ago, this was now, and this wasn’t just anypony. It was his best friend, Fluttershy. The rustling of papers broke him away from his musing, and he turned his head to look at Twilight Sparkle.

“She was bitten by a vampire fruit bat, Discord.”

“Is she… you know. A vampony?” His reply was more complacent than normal, and Twilight rose an eyebrow. Did he actually… care?

“... Yes. I’ve been spending the day conducting experiments. Finding out her immunities, her weaknesses, trying too--”

“You’ve been using her as an experiment?”

“I prefer to think of it as a learning experience, Discord.”

“But that’s not why you called me here, is it?” Twilight opened her mouth to formulate a response, but it was swiftly, and quite literally, zipped back up. “Let me guess, one of your experiments went wrong?” Discord guessed, Twilight’s nod confirming his suspicions. “I can’t say I’m too upset that that’s the case, but the fact that it was poor Fluttershy on the receiving end is a shame.”

Discord’s unusual scolding seemed to have an effect on Twilight, and a sullen look crossed her features.

“Oh, don’t fret, Twilight Sparkle. Fixing up Fluttershy should be no problem for a creature of my influence.” To get his point across, he snapped his fingers and the zipper on Twilight’s mouth disappeared.

Twilight didn’t have much to say, instead turning to look at the room that held her friend. “Do you want to see her?”

His answer was resounding. A flash of white filled the room and by the time it dissipated, he was gone.

She was on the bed, and his sudden appearance hadn’t come without consequences. She flew right at him, but he was quick enough to grab her by the tail and suspend her upside down. There was something strange about her, though. Her eyes had remained shut as she rushed him, a fact not lost on the draconequus.

“Fluttershy, I need you to open your eyes.”

A hiss was the only response he got, so he took it upon himself to force them open. With a snap of his fingers, her eyelids were opened, kept in place by small strips of duct tape. His thoughts were confirmed as he stared into her pupil-less eyes. They were cloudy, and a bit grayer than their normal color.

“Just as I thought. You’re as blind as a bat,” he chuckled to himself, but Fluttershy seemed less than amused. “I need you to hold still, Fluttershy.”

The plan was to diagnose the issue using his magic, something a master of chaos such as himself would normally have no issue doing. Of course, most masters of chaos don’t have a crazed vampony trying its hardest to bite them when they’re trying to use their magic. It was distracting, to say the least.

“Alright, I think you need to take a nap.” With a swift chop… alright, fine, pat to her neck, she was out cold. “Sorry, Fluttershy, but I already get enough of that from Opalescence.”

Floating over to the bed she had previously been resting on, he dropped her down with a plop. With a snap of his talons, she was back to being a normal pony, but her eyes hadn’t changed in the slightest. If anything, they seemed even more noticeable now that she was back to being a regular pony.

“Alright, Fluttershy, what’s ailing you?” Discord wondered aloud. Placing his paw on her side, he could feel something he hadn’t felt since… “Oh, bother.”

Fluttershy’s eyes shot open, but something was different. “I… I can’t see? Um, hello, anypony?”

“I’m right here, Fluttershy.”

“Discord?” Fluttershy tried to reach in the direction his voice had come from, but only succeeded in tumbling off of the bed, landing on the ground with a thud. “Ouch…” She could feel Discord wrap his arm around her and place her back on the bed. She could feel as he sat down next to her. But what she couldn’t feel was what he was feeling. Regret.

“Oh, Fluttershy, this is all my fault.”

“Don’t be like that, Discord, I’m sure it isn’t. Twilight will know what to do.”

“But it literally is my fault, Fluttershy!” Discord shouted, exasperated. “I just meant to prank Twilight, but the spell is far worse than I originally thought.”

“Um. What spell?” She questioned. How she still looked cute even with cloudy eyes, Discord had no clue, and he found himself unable to tear himself away from looking right at them.

“A spell I created long ago. The ‘See No More’ spell. I used it on Luna during our big showdown, but I haven’t since then. Who would have thought even the spirit of chaos could get rusty after a thousand years,” he chuckled. “I’m afraid you’ll be stuck without your vision for at least three days.”

“T-three days? Oh my, how will I feed the animals?”

“I could that for you,” Discord grinned and jumped up, a chef’s hat popping into place atop his head. “Chef Discord at your service!”

Fluttershy titled her head to the side, and it hit him.

“Oh, right, you can’t see the chef’s hat,” he threw the chef’s hat away as he said that and it disappeared.

“Discord, if you don’t mind, can I ask how you did it?”

“Did what?”

“That, um, spell?”

“Well,” Discord cleared his throat, “that’s quite a long story. Would you like the abridged version?”

“Okay,” she smiled.

“Did you happen to eat any alphabet soup lately, Fluttershy?”

“Um, Twilight gave me some right before I was bitten by that little fruit bat. Then I woke up here.”

“Right, okay,” he nodded even though she couldn’t see it. “I gave Twilight some magical alphabet soup, but took out all of the ‘C’ letters.”

Fluttershy couldn't help but giggle at that, and suddenly Discord didn't feel as bad. At least now he'd get to spend three days with her.
